»Novell Worried About GPL3 And Microsoft

Novell is concerned that the new draft of the GPL will deny it from working with Microsoft. <a href="http://news.com.com/2100-7344_3-6187127.html">Many open source enthusiasts detest Novell for doing this in the first place</a>. Maybe it is not good for the software industry to shun companies like this.

The 144-page document posted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Web site contained redacted versions of Novell's business, patent and technology agreements with Microsoft, which it signed in November 2006. While much of what was officially released is known, Novell did express concerns that the final draft of GPL 3, which slipped its March 2007 deadline, could see Microsoft halting the distribution of Suse Linux, having a financial impact on Novell. "If the final version of GPLv3 contains terms or conditions that interfere with our agreement with Microsoft or our ability to distribute GPLv3 code, Microsoft may cease to distribute Suse Linux coupons in order to avoid the extension of its patent covenants to a broader range of GPLv3 software recipients," Novell stated in the document.

This thread is shorter because it doesn't have two posters bickering like husband and wife. Addressing the orginal question it's obvious you have to rewatch the series to understand much of the story, you may have missed parts. The point was the future was changes. The reason Peter couldn't fly by himself was he was fixed on holding back the chain reaction.

»Symantec Update Breaks Windows

Do you trust anti-virus software? <a href="http://news.com.com/2100-1002_3-6186271.html">Your trust may be misplaced</a>. A live update from Symantec has broken Windows installs in China.

According to the Chinese Internet Security Response Team (CISRT), users of Norton Antivirus, Norton Internet Security 2007 and Norton 360 who installed an antivirus signature update released by Symantec on May 17 could not reboot their PCs. The update reportedly mistook two Windows system files--"netapi32.dll" and "lsasrv.dll"--as the Backdoor.Haxdoo Trojan horse. The two files were subsequently quarantined. CISRT said the flawed Symantec update only affects users of the Simplified Chinese version of Windows XP Service Pack 2 that have been patched with a particular Microsoft software fix available since November 2006. CISRT noted that this issue has been "huge." According to CCTV.com, which is part of China's largest national TV network, the problem has affected millions of PCs and was not completely resolved as of Wednesday.

I have many Linux systems at home and the webserver (mine now, Chris actually gets space from me) runs Linux. I have a MythTV server, a fileserver, a few front ends. Now my main desktop will be Linux.

I have to agree.. this movie was something else. It was dark and violent, but the actors were superb. I don't think it is one that I want to own since I probably wouldn't ever see it again.
But, it truly is a magnificent movie and deserved all of the accolades it received.

It seems that SoundExchange is trying to stop the legislation that will stop it from charging ridiculous prices for broadcasting music. <a href="http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20070522-soundexchange-offers-olive-branch-to-small-webcasters-over-royalties.html">They are trying to appease small broadcasters with lower fees</a>. Sorry, I hope the legislation goes through.

Late last month, Rep. Jay Inslee (D-WA), Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR), and Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS) introduced the Internet Radio Equality Act (IREA), which would overturn the CRB's new fee structure. Instead, SoundExchange would continue to receive a percentage of the webcasters' revenue, which would be set at the same 7.5 percent mark paid by satellite radio providers. The IREA was a major factor in SoundExchange's decision to roll back the clock on the licensing fees, which the licensing group admitted in a press release announcing the extension. "Although the rates revised by the CRB are fair and based on the value of music in the marketplace, there's a sense in the music community and in Congress that small webcasters need more time to develop their businesses," said John Simson, executive director of SoundExchange. "Artists and labels are offering a below-market rate to subsidize small webcasters because Congress has made it clear that this is a policy it desires to advance, at least for the next few years."

Painful either way. I had the option to put someone on Ubuntu or Vista. Because of some of what he does for fun (and because I didn't want to have to come over every week just WINE something in) I went with Vista. He can't play music directly from the CD, but at least he has access to the hard drive. Aron, do you know if they went with a patch kernel/alt tree or something to that nature? Linus Linux is rarely screwed up in this way.

I did cartoon voice overs with Peter Fernandez the original American voice of Speed and in the beginning they were going to include him in the movie. I hope they will stick to that and he is able.

Very true!! They'll need to do what they can to make this show really stand on its own. People might watch at first due to this allegiance with Addison. But, if the show doesn't deliver, people will stop watching. I don't want it to be like every other show just like it. It needs to stand out, not blend in.
