From Thread: SteelPad QcK+ Mousepad Old Sun Mar 5, 2006 8:23:08 PM
You don't know what you're talking about when it comes to mousepads and gaming. The reason why this mousepad is big is because there are gamers out there who play with low sensitivities who actually use about 90% of a mousepad that size.

Also friction on a mousepad is really all preference. Some people like a really smooth mousepad and others prefer a really rough mousepad, you shouldn't say that this is a bad mousepad because of it. I have used this mousepad and I can tell you it is a great mousepad if you don't mind a bit of friction and play any FPS competetivley.

From Thread: Evercase ECE1341 Slim BTX Case at ASE Labs Old Sun Mar 5, 2006 8:23:06 PM
I just swapped out the CPU on this system....I must say that Aron was if anything too charitable in his review. I hesitate to really trash a product and always try and give the benefit of the doubt to a manufacturer, but my bottom line review of this case is do not even think about buying it. Even given the fact that a slim case requires a more difficult installation of components, it is obvious that the whoever designed the case never actually had to work with it. It was bad enough to configure....forget about a CPU Swap....even HDD changes are painful.

From Thread: Logitech Cordless Desktop MX3000 Laser Old Sun Mar 5, 2006 8:23:00 PM
I have the MX1000 laser mouse. I am very happy with it. At the time I was looking for a new/updated keyboard and mouse combo. The MX3100 combo set was not available at that time.

Thanks for the great article on the MX3000 set. Logitech keeps coming up with the newest and latest technology. I am waiting to update my keyboard now when the G15 gaming keyboard comes out. I look forward to seeing your review on it.

From Thread: ZeroSpyware 2005 Old Sun Mar 5, 2006 8:22:56 PM
I've found the best solution to removing Spyware from a machine quickly (under 30 minutes), without completely reformatting, is to do the following:

1) Boot up in safe mode
2) Remove all P2P programs, toolbars, other garbage (This includes cleaning the actualy directories and files from the system)
3) Use HiJackThis (I'm not going to explain how, if you don't know, then you're bound to get Spyware again) to remove all entries that are bad (comes from experience)
4) Create a new user
5) Boot up the machine in normal
6) Logon with the new user you created
7) Install Microsoft AntiSpyware, get updates, run scan
8) Move what you need to move from the old user over to the new user (email, favorites, documents, etc)
9) Delete your old user
10) Enjoy

From Thread: Pikmin 2 Review! Old Sun Mar 5, 2006 8:22:54 PM
sorry for the delay in responding.

the fact that the creatures don't have texture maps doesn't detract from the overall great look of the game (much time is spent zoomed out, so texturing would be lost anyway). This was also probably done to keep the framerate solid, since there can be 100's of 3d bugs/plants/objects on screen at once. also, you gotta love the speical effects in the "zoo" mode. then animals look very believable. the GC is a very capable system: too bad nintendo has their head up their ass half the time (see my related news article/rant)...

From Thread: M-Audio StudioPro 4 Speakers Old Sun Mar 5, 2006 8:22:51 PM
I added a little more meat to article because a I got a letter complaining on how it "sucks" and doesn't have specs and/or comparisons to other products.

I'd just like to clarify that this review was more a discussion on the idea of studio audio monitors at home, and how beneficial they were to me. Not every review needs to be drowned in charts and specs. It's just meant to be a "heads-up", letting people know that for 150 bucks, you can run down to CompUSA and let these puppies help you bang out some sweet mixes.

Go here for another pic of these speakers: http://www.m-audio.com/images/en/callouts/big/sp4.jpg

From Thread: Cryptography: Part 1 - Why Cryptography? Old Sun Mar 5, 2006 8:22:50 PM
Good quick and dirty primer on basic encryption techniques.

In your upcoming articles, are you going to discuss any of the following:

- Recommended software to perform these tasks
- Hardware dongles (USB dongles, swipe cards, etc), bioscanner devices (Fingerprint, retinal, etc), other devices that can be used to unique static information that can be used as a key
- Rotation schemes and updating of keys to provide for higher level of security incase of key breaches
- HOWTO on discovering what technique was used to encrypt information by looking at the encrypted data

I would be interested in reading about some high-level (256bit and above) encryption for a variety of filesystems for Mac, Linux and Windows systems that is integrated with some type of scanner device or hardware dongle. Ideally it would provide maximum security for a machine which may be physically compromised while maintaining complete data security.

The AMD banter was quickly hushed by the Intel reps and I was quite pleased with the presentation. Probably one of the more informing events that I have attended and I must say I am most pleased with the assortment of food they offer. It made my day to leave the event with a Intel 550 P4 3.4 HT compliments of Intel.

From Thread: How Modern CPUs Work at ASE Labs Old Sun Mar 5, 2006 8:22:18 PM
You're correct about the CPI determination, I pulled that out of a hat. That was for explination purposes only (in regards to branches and other pipeline stalls). I did explain why the clock speed increased for a pipelined CPU.

Quote

In a multi-cycle CPU, the clock speed is set for the longest amount of time one stage of the pipeline takes. In the laundromat example, it would set at 40 minutes since that is the longest stage in the datapath.

1. ATX will slowly be phased out just as AT did when ATX came out.

2. Each of the components are rotated to provide maximum airflow.

I'll add this to the article.
