-- Barrier-free communication for the Internet of Things
-- Gardena smart system links devices using new Lemonbeat protocol

Developers and manufacturers of Internet-compatible devices can now make use of the new universal Lemonbeat programming language developed by RWE. It enables any device to communicate or work together with another device via the Internet. As a common language for a variety of applications, Lemonbeat represents an important step in the development of the Internet of Things. Gardena, part of the Husqvarna Group and known for innovative gardening tools and watering systems, plans to introduce the first robot lawnmowers that "speak" Lemonbeat onto the market next year.
In the "Internet of Things" everything is interconnected via the Internet. Many devices can already be controlled in this way, for example through apps on smartphones. In industrial production and logistics in particular, advances in microchips and communication technology have already simplified and accelerated many processes. The Internet of Things, or IoT for short, could interconnect practically any everyday object with another device and with the user. However, until now this development has been hampered by the lack of uniform, secure communication standards - a common language for all. Lemonbeat from RWE could be the key to the solution of this problem.
For communication beyond the system, an "interpreter" has always been necessary to be compatible with the transmission method such as WLAN, Bluetooth or Ethernet. With a universal language such as Lemonbeat, such interfaces would become redundant. It will therefore be possible to develop IoT devices more quickly and cheaply. Such devices would also be easier to connect to other devices, regardless of manufacturer. The first specific product that RWE is offering in this range is a preconfigured chip with the Lemonbeat language already implemented. Alternatively, licences for the software only can be obtained.
As the result of this type of cooperation, the new Gardena smart system is to be launched next spring. "The flexibility of the options for application and the simplicity of the implementation convinced us," says Joachim Heppler, Director of Global Product Management Watering at Gardena. "Added to that was the sophisticated security concept used for Lemonbeat. We place great value on reliable and secure communication." The product series includes two models of robot lawnmower, Gardena smart Sileno, which use Lemonbeat, as well as a watering controller. On the basis of this communication standard, other devices from Gardena are going to follow, making the garden even smarter.

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- OmniVision Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: OVTI), a leading developer of advanced digital imaging solutions, today announced the OV788, an ultra-low power video compression chip with integrated synchronous dynamic random access memory (SDRAM). Ideally suited for smart-home and security applications, the compact OV788 system-in-package with SDRAM (OV0788-U44G) provides small to midsize original equipment manufacturers with an easy-to-integrate and compact video processing solution that significantly reduces lead times and time to market. This equates to an estimated 224 million potential smart-home systems," said David Ho, senior product manager at OmniVision. "Sensors and video processor ASICs are vital components in visual sensing and visual data processing functions, which are essential for smart-home systems. They allow consumers to truly benefit from IoT imaging applications. The OV788's built-in memory, ease of integration, compact size, low power and fast boot-up are critical features for battery-operated smart-home appliances, and can help bolster further development of smart home IoT technologies."
The OV788 is a H.264 video processor ASIC that supports video-encoding and decoding up to 720p (1280x720) high definition (HD) at 30 frames per second (FPS), and enables still capture output of full-resolution 8-megapixel JPEG images. Additionally, the OV788 offers ultra-low power consumption and fast boot-up.
The OV0788-U44G with integrated SDRAM can fit into a compact 9 x 9 mm BGA package, and thus compares favorably to the OV788 with external memory (which fits into an 11 x 11 mm BGA package). The product is currently available for sampling, and is expected to enter volume production in the fourth quarter of 2015.

Internap Launches OpenStack-Powered Bare-Metal IaaS for High-Performance Applications
AgileSERVER 2.0 extends bare-metal leadership with latest generation high-performing hardware, enhanced networking and hybrid capabilities and powerful infrastructure management tools
ATLANTA, Oct. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Internap Corporation (NASDAQ: INAP), a provider of high-performance Internet infrastructure services, today announced the general availability of the next generation of its bare-metal Infrastructure-as-a-Service offering, AgileSERVER 2.0. A high-performance IaaS option, AgileSERVER 2.0 features significant hardware, networking and management advancements designed to meet the needs of enterprises and devops teams deploying mission-critical applications and big-data workloads on OpenStack.
Trends such as big data growth, the increase in rich media and the app economy are driving the need for high-performance infrastructure across nearly every major industry. Organizations are increasingly encountering performance limitations and spiraling costs with commodity public cloud platforms, particularly as they scale out their application environments. Since 2012, companies with performance-reliant workloads - such as eXelate, Taptica, Distil Networks, CrowdStar and more - have been turning to Internap's automated bare-metal service, AgileSERVER, to build global, scale-out application environments. AgileSERVER combines the dedicated processing power of bare metal with the agility of the cloud, allowing companies to achieve peak performance and scalability for mission critical workloads.
Key features of AgileSERVER 2.0:
-- Latest generation high-performing hardware - AgileSERVER 2.0 features
the newest Intel-based single, dual and quad socket processors, and a
wide range of memory options up to 1TB RAM to meet companies'
performance needs. Customers can choose from SATA, SAS or SSD storage.
For data-intensive applications demanding the highest levels of
performance, Internap now offers PCI Express Non-Volatile Memory (NVM)
Storage, allowing customers to scale to 1M IOPS and deliver up to 10x
the performance of today's fastest-available SSDs.
-- Enhanced networking - Internap now offers 10 VLANs per customer to
enable enhanced security and design flexibility for application
architectures. Internap is also increasing the Universal Transfer
allotment to 10 TB per server of its route-optimized Performance IP(TM)
connectivity service, resulting in lower latency and accelerated
application performance. Other performance networking capabilities
include IPMI for greater control and ease of management for high
availability environments, and NIC bonding for increased network
redundancy and throughput.
-- Seamless hybridization - Customers can hybridize AgileSERVER with
Internap's OpenStack-based AgileCLOUD virtual cloud instances, as well
as colocation, managed hosting or on-premise infrastructure to best
match application needs. Customers can quickly move workloads between
virtual and dedicated infrastructure without time-consuming networking
configurations or tasks. AgileSERVER 2.0 will also take full advantage
of OpenStack's Kilo release and corresponding federated identity
enhancements in 2015, further broadening hybrid and multi-cloud use case
opportunities.
-- Infrastructure management tools with granular control options -
AgileSERVER 2.0 is built on the native OpenStack API, allowing customers
to access the entire OpenStack ecosystem of tools and avoid vendor lock
in. Customers can also take advantage of OpenStack Glance image
management functionality and Heat orchestration and auto-scaling
capabilities via an integrated Horizon OpenStack management dashboard.
Customers can use Glance to quickly import disk images from other
service providers onto AgileSERVER and move disk images from AgileSERVER
to other bare-metal or virtualized environments. Businesses with a
DevOps orientation can use Heat orchestration to automate provisioning
based on pre-defined architectures and define additional rules for
provisioning and terminating instances based on criteria such as CPU
load or bandwidth traffic changes.
-- Per-second billing - In addition to existing hourly and monthly
configurations, organizations that need micro-bursts of high-performing
infrastructure for specific tasks, such as media rendering, now also
have the option of paying on a per-second basis, more precisely aligning
costs with capacity demand.
AgileSERVER 2.0 availability
AgileSERVER 2.0 is available immediately out of Internap's New York metro area data center in Secaucus, New Jersey. Internap expects to roll out AgileSERVER 2.0 to its Dallas, Santa Clara and Amsterdam facilities by the end of the year and expand to additional international locations, including Montreal and Singapore, in the first half of 2016.
Executive, Customer and Analyst Comments
-- "High-performance applications are no longer limited to specialized
industries. As more organizations develop and deploy cloud-native
applications that are mission-critical for their business, the limits of
commodity cloud services are being tested, and the need for fast,
reliable and elastic infrastructure is becoming more pervasive.
AgileSERVER 2.0 is a next-generation cloud platform specifically
designed for organizations looking to build and scale a software-defined
business."
- Satish Hemachandran, senior vice president and general manager, cloud and hosting, Internap
-- "We require high-throughput, low-latency infrastructure to run our
real-time data analytics platform that allows marketers to engage
customers with personalized messages. Traditional public cloud instances
were just not capable of reliably processing and delivering between six
to seven billion events per day at a reasonable cost. Since 2013, our
global AgileSERVER environment has elevated the performance of our
solution, allowing us to deliver critical information to our customers
significantly faster. We're excited about the performance advancements
and flexibility advantages of OpenStack integration in AgileSERVER 2.0
to further optimize our environment."
- Brent Keator, vice president of infrastructure, eXelate, a Nielsen company
-- "As more companies look to host applications with high-performance
requirements, bare-metal IaaS that can be provisioned on demand becomes
an important complement to public clouds. Bare-metal increases
flexibility for enterprises and DevOps teams, adding a strategic
application venue within the existing ecosystem of public and private
clouds."

Encased in all-black premium satin aluminum, the style and finish will compliment users' existing personal tech.
Kangaroo has 32GB of storage and can be upgraded for additional storage with a large-capacity microSD card. At $99 (USD), Kangaroo is a no-compromise PC at a no-pain price that makes Windows 10 accessible to anyone. Adding to its diverse feature-set, Kangaroo can provide remote access via a hardware Action Switch, allowing users to gain direct access to the Windows 10 desktop even when there is no WiFi.

At CES, there will be upcoming products and accessories that will build out the full Kangaroo ecosystem and will include a Kangaroo Monitor, dedicated storage expansion and various port expansion docks.

Zhone Technologies MXK-F Supports Quarter Million Users from One Chassis
Fiber-optimized aggregation platform supports next-generation GPON and Active Ethernet services
OAKLAND, Calif., Oct. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Zhone Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZHNE) introduced a new aggregation platform today that can support fiber-based triple play service for a large city in a single chassis. With the bandwidth demands of carriers, end-users and enterprise organizations ever increasing, this ultra-high capacity fiber-optimized aggregation platform, called the MXK-F, is the deployment platform of the future for high bandwidth applications. Compatible with current and next generation XGPON, NGPON2 and beyond, the MXK-F can support cloud-based applications and services that have not even been imagined yet.
"The release of the MXK-F platform is a significant milestone in the industry. It allows network providers and telecom carriers to build a network configuration that is already optimized for future advancements that will thrive for many years into the future," said Eric Presworsky, Chief Technology Officer, Zhone Technologies.
Two chassis for the platform were announced today. The MXK-F1421 and MXK-F1419 are the first in a series of new models built for advanced optical networks and to support bandwidth-hungry services. These units are designed for high-bandwidth enterprise systems built on Gigabit Passive Optical Networks (GPON), Passive Optical Networks (PON) and Active Ethernet services. With its advanced architecture and state of the art components, this new platform lays the foundation for Zhone Technologies' future network function virtualization solutions. Additionally, both MXK-F models increase uplink capacity to more than 300 Gigabits per second (Gbps), reduce boot time by 80 percent and support nearly five times the number of connected devices. The units are also optimized to improve overall reliability and availability of the network.
The Polytechnic Institute of NYU has reported on the astounding and accelerated growth of bandwidth demands in its paper "Future Internet Bandwidth Trends." The researchers predict the following bandwidth demands will be required by 2020(1):
-- 50 billion connected objects will exist
-- global data traffic for WiFi will reach 10,410 gigabytes per hour
-- IoT devices will demand 16,215 gigabytes per hour during peak traffic
The new MXK-F models are designed in a modular package with customer line card slots that currently support GPON and Active Ethernet. The new MXK-F1421 modular package supports up to 16 customer line cards, and is specifically engineered to set a new standard for GPON ports per square meter in a single rack.
"The capacity of the new MXK-F platform is enough to boggle the mind of even the most progressive information officer. If one were to pair the MXK-F1421 with an eight-Ethernet-port ONT, this platform can technically support more than 294,000 end-users," said Presworsky. "There may not be many people who want to take that leap, but the scenario demonstrates the magnitude of the telecommunications, video, data and other applications that the MXK-F can accommodate."
The MXK-F1419 utilizes the same chassis design as its MXK-F1421 sibling, however it supports 14 customer line cards and mounts in 19-inch racks. Both models can support up to 128-splits per Optical Line Terminal (OLT) port, and a fully-filled 16 line card MXK-F1421 can support more than 16,000 Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) at 64 splits in a residential setting. In a FiberLAN environment, up to 130,000 Ethernet ports can be supported by one MXK-F1421 chassis.
