Innovative Nonprofit Releases Kinesthetic-based Educational Games GeoMoto and Pangean
Embodied learning experiences allow players to create and manipulate geographic features with movement
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Staying true to its mission, GameDesk has released two new and novel interactive gaming titles for education for the IOS, Android, and Leap Controller/PC platforms. GeoMoto and Pangean are embodied learning experiences allowing players to learn through direction and movement creating geographic features by pulling, smashing and grinding tectonic plates and moving entire continents.
Since its launch in 2011, GameDesk has developed some of the most innovative learning games, platforms, and experiential school curriculum available today, including its flagship social-emotional title, Dojo, and interactive learning platform Educade.org. GeoMoto and Pangean emerged out of research, development, and performance testing supported by The National Science Foundation, the National Academy of Science, the Betty Moore Foundation, as well as the Science and Entertainment Exchange. Working in collaboration with content experts from Bill Nye the Science Guy, LucasArts, Cal Tech's Tectonics Observatory and Boston University, GameDesk merged its assessment-driven, game-based learning design practices to foster deep conceptual learning of various geosciences subjects.
GeoMoto, which is now currently available in the Apple App and Android Store for $4.99, invites players to navigate a planet devoid of geographic features. Students are challenged to complete objectives by inducing movement of tectonic plates, forming mountains, valleys, and volcanoes in the process. The interactive, animation-based learning experience allows students to physically move tectonic plates and observe as a landscape forms on the planet's surface.
Pangean is a didactic puzzle game introducing the geological concept of continental drift. As galactic members of the United Colonies, players travel the universe in their own scouting ship, using a hologram interface to piece together continents and demonstrate the shift that occurs over 100 million years. Initial levels challenge players to simply move and rotate landmasses, but as the difficulty increases, players are armed with advanced tools helping them complete their final mission of returning present-day Earth to its Pangean state.
By leveraging the touch screen of a tablet, GeoMoto and Pangean link students' tactical actions to Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards, resulting in profound understanding and retention of complex material. GameDesk originally developed and released game prototypes working with the leap motion controller that allowed students to use their hand gestures to kinesthetically learning the science concepts. Research and implementation as well as pre-post data on student learning is detailed in their newly released white paper.
"During our strategy and development phases of creating any game, we ask ourselves, 'Will this change the way students learn?' We feel GeoMoto and Pangean further our commitment to providing new, interactive learning opportunities, ensuring students are making the right connections," said GameDesk's CEO and Founder Lucien Vattel.
GameDesk's mission, Vattel added, is "To provide immersive learning activities for students through gaming and simulation in a native 21(st) century learning environment, with the mindset that learning and fun are not mutually exclusive." GeoMoto and Pangean embody this mission completely, combining kinesthetic activities, hands-on experience, and immersive learning with engaging, rigorous content.

RWE Wants to Establish Lemonbeat as an International Standard
DORTMUND, Germany, October 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
- World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) reviews new communications protocol for the
Internet of Things
- Live demonstration at W3C conference in late October in Sapporo
Lemonbeat keeps moving international standardisation forward: the communications
protocol developed by RWE is currently at the World Wide Web Constortium (W3C) for review
and comment. RWE is now playing its part as a member of the renowned association and is
actively working in the "Web of Things" interest group. W3C deals with the standardisation
of Internet technologies. The consortium's recommendations set international trends.
In late September, RWE presented comprehensive information on the "Lemonbeat smart
Device Language" (LsDL) language standard. After that, the company shared details on LsDL
with the W3C group. "The response to our communications protocol has been extremely
positive", says Dr. Dietrich Gemmel, Chief Executive Officer of RWE Effizienz GmbH.
"Lemonbeat's wide performance range is being met with enthusiasm."
The next step will now follow in late October in Sapporo, Japan. At the W3C conference,
there will be a live demonstration of Lemonbeat for IT developers from around the world.
Prototypes will be used to show how devices can be connected with each other using
Lemonbeat and how they integrate themselves into a network fully automatically. The
audience will see live how the Lemonbeat application operates internally. Gemmel is
certain: "With this high-performing protocol, we have excellent opportunities. In the
context of a global standardisation of the Internet of Things, we can play a key role."
Lemonbeat is a new communications protocol that makes networking very different
devices very easy. It is very compact, but at the same time, it can also be flexibly
expanded for use in complex applications. With this, Lemonbeat is meeting the challenges
of the Internet of Things particularly effectively. As the provider of the RWE SmartHome
home automation system, intelligent device communication is familiar territory for the
company. The first B2B pilot customers are already using Lemonbeat.

City of Cape Coral Improves Municipal Efficiency and Eliminates Downtime Using Zerto's Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery Software
City's IT Department Achieves Data Center Virtualization Goal to Reduce OPEX and Environmental Impact, While Exceeding Audit Requirements to Protect Key ERP and HR Systems
BOSTON, October 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
Zerto [http://www.zerto.com ], setting the standard for protection, recovery and
migration of data in cloud and virtualized data centers, today announced the City of Cape
Coral, Florida has significantly improved municipal efficiency by supporting major
business applications using Zerto's business continuity/disaster recovery (BC/DR) software,
Zerto Virtual Replication. The city's IT department has achieved its data center
virtualization goal to reduce OPEX and environmental impact, while exceeding its audit
requirements to protect key enterprise resource planning (ERP) and HR applications. With
Zerto Virtual Replication, the City of Cape Coral's IT department has also met their
recovery point objective (RPO) and recovery time objective (RTO) for enterprise
applications such as JD Edwards
[http://www.oracle.com/us/products/applications/jd-edwards-enterpriseone/overview/index.html ]
and Kronos [http://www.kronos.com ]. Additionally, they can now quickly replicate
applications off-site to a secondary data center, and reduce testing and development time
to support seamless migration to their production environment.
The City of Cape Coral began virtualizing its IT environment in 2005 to conserve space
and lower administrative costs in its data center. It also established a goal of
virtualizing 95 percent of its primary business applications. After multiple audits of
potential solutions, the City of Cape Coral couldn't find a suitable solution that was
efficient, and delivered within budget all while eliminating downtime by decreasing RPO
and RTO. After extensive evaluation based on a recommendation from Zerto reseller partner,
Alturna Tech, the City of Cape Coral chose Zerto Virtual Replication. They found it
allowed them to achieve their data center goals while using their own custom hardware to
increase their ROI.
Zerto Virtual Replication provides the city with a highly efficient and easy to use
solution that meets aggressive RPO and RTO goals for each audit report. Zerto's
software-based technology uses asynchronous replication at the hypervisor level to capture
the data before it is even written to the storage layer in order to be the closest to zero
RPO as possible. Zerto's software also lowers the City of Cape Coral's RTO in several ways
that reduce the recovery time of their servers, including:
- Putting the servers in affinity groupings that logically go together, either by
tiers or by service or application support. Zerto calls these Virtual Protection
Groups (VPGs).
- Integrating the orchestration and replication tools for administrative efficiency.
- Thoroughly and routinely performing failover tests to allow Cape Coral to more
effectively manage all aspects of their failover operation and ensure success in the
event of a disaster.
Supporting QuotesÂ
Fidel Deforte, ICT Manager, City of Cape Coral
"Zerto is continuously providing new, industry-leading innovations such as Zerto
Virtual Replication that answered the critical needs of our municipal IT environment,
while meeting our specific criteria on every level. With Zerto Virtual Replication, we
were able to provide instant data management solutions with minimal issues and overhead,
while eliminating downtime. The fact that Zerto can be installed in any infrastructure
anywhere and work flawlessly, while providing a smooth transition failover to and failback,
assured us that our partnership with Zerto will be a successful one for years to come."
Ziv Kedem, CEO, ZertoÂ
"Municipal IT departments nationwide are increasingly realizing the critical
importance of maintaining and improving operational efficiency by better supporting major
business applications and protecting their infrastructure from failed disaster recovery
efforts. Any downtime to a city's virtualized infrastructure would likely shut the city
down, which is unacceptable. We're pleased to be able to provide Cape Coral with
comprehensive, around-the-clock protection of their critical business applications across
multiple IT infrastructures. With ZVR, Cape Coral's IT department is better equipped to
meet their critical operational requirements, while reducing variable capital costs."
The City of Cape Coral is the largest city in southwest Florida. Surrounded with over
400 miles of navigational waterways from the Gulf of Mexico, Cape Coral has more miles of
canals than any other city in the world, granting it the title of Waterfront Wonderland.
The Information Technology Services (ITS) Department provides all technology support and
management for the City of Cape Coral, and its 38 Wide Area Network (WAN) connected sites,
and redundant, hardened data centers local and remote.

VIEVU Announces the Launch of Automated Video Redaction (AVR) Technology
Automated Identity Protection Addresses Key Obstacle in Police Departments' Adoption of Body Worn Video
AVR to be showcased at IACP Annual Conference and Exposition
SEATTLE, Oct. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- VIEVU, an industry leader in body worn video ("BWV") and data management solutions today announced the introduction of its Automated Video Redaction ("AVR") technology, a highly advanced redaction tool built to automatically blur faces and objects, without user involvement, recorded on body worn cameras in order to protect the privacy and identity of victims, innocent bystanders, minors and undercover police officers. VIEVU's offering of AVR addresses a critical need of police departments, which have delayed their adoption of BWV due to the absence of available redaction technology.
AVR's technology is optimized for body worn or dashboard camera footage, which faces unique challenges due to movement, poor lighting, and low resolution. The VIEVU AVR system employs an advanced algorithm which automatically tracks faces and identifiers, allowing them to be easily blurred and reduces the time it takes to redact a video by over 10x. Most departments qualify for access to the VIEVU AVR system when they sign up for the VIEVU Solution Cloud Hosted Evidence system built on Microsoft Azure Government.
"We are proud to introduce the VIEVU AVR technology to be used with our best-in-class video system, which provides transparency and protection to police officers and communities around the world," said Steve Ward, President of VIEVU. "Police departments, which must be responsive to Freedom of Information Act requests, looking to adopt body worn cameras face a substantial challenge in protecting identities through footage redaction. The cutting-edge AVR system offered by VIEVU will lessen the burden on police departments and simplify the redaction process, allowing for increased adoption of body worn cameras around the world."
Scott O'Brien, President of The Safariland Group, commented, "AVR complements VIEVU's already outstanding technology platform offering. This system will transform a formerly time-intensive task restricted to video specialists into an automated function, which department officers and security professionals can perform themselves, in minutes, driving enormous time and cost savings for departments around the world."
VIEVU's AVR technology was developed in partnership with Suspect Technologies, Inc. VIEVU will debut and demonstrate its AVR technology at the IACP Annual Conference and Exposition in Chicago on October 24-27, 2015.

Microsemi and Athena Announce FPGA Cores with Strong DPA Countermeasures for Cryptography Users
Powerful Anti-Tamper Security Microprocessor Technology Available Immediately as Soft Intellectual Property for SmartFusion2 and IGLOO2 FPGAs
ALISO VIEJO, Calif., Oct. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq: MSCC), a leading provider of semiconductor solutions differentiated by power, security, reliability and performance, and The Athena Group, Inc. (Athena), a leading provider of security, cryptography, anti-tamper and signal processing intellectual property (IP) cores, today announced a comprehensive portfolio of IP cores with state-of-the-art side channel analysis (SCA) and differential power analysis (DPA) countermeasures. The new portfolio, based on Athena's TeraFire((R)) cryptographic microprocessor family, is designed for users of Microsemi's award-winning SmartFusion((TM))2 system-on-chip (SoC) field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and IGLOO((TM))2 FPGAs.
"DPA countermeasures are critical to any tamper-resistant system," said Paul Quintana, director of vertical marketing, Microsemi Defense, Security and Computing. "As threat vectors increase in sophistication, so must the security solutions. Microsemi customers are looking for the most robust and proven anti-tamper and information assurance capabilities for their products. Athena is now delivering its best-of-breed family of silicon-proven security products as soft IP for license on the industry's only DPA-resistant FPGAs certified by Rambus Cryptography Research, SmartFusion2 and IGLOO2."
Athena's robust, innovative DPA countermeasure solutions deliver resistance to side channel monitoring attacks across a broad range of standard cryptographic algorithms and performance levels used for embedded applications in markets including defense, communications and industrial. These silicon-proven cores have been recently enhanced to resist SCA/DPA attacks up to 1 billion traces and can be optimized for size, speed and security level based on customer requirements. Furthermore, since select SmartFusion2 and IGLOO2 FPGAs are the only FPGAs already licensed for Rambus Cryptography Research's DPA patent portfolio, no additional license is required from Rambus Cryptography Research for use of the Athena IP cores with the licensed Microsemi FPGAs.
"Partnering with Microsemi, a leader in highly secure, low-power FPGAs, to offer SmartFusion2 and IGLOO2 customers the most robust countermeasures available, has been groundbreaking," said Stuart Audley, director of engineering at Athena. "To give Microsemi customers confidence that they are deploying IP with effective countermeasures, Athena has pushed the limits of test vector leakage assessment (TVLA) testing of our DPA solutions. We have demonstrated through measurements and statistical analysis that even after a billion traces, leakage is effectively minimized."
Microsemi's SmartFusion2 and IGLOO2 DPA-resistant FPGAs deliver design security and protection for the valuable IP embodied within users' programmable designs. While users choose SmartFusion2 and IGLOO2 for these capabilities, many users require additional cryptographic data security soft IP as part of their own programmable applications. Teaming with Athena enables users to employ sophisticated cryptographic microprocessor technology employing advanced DPA countermeasures as a soft IP, maintaining the highest levels of data security throughout the device/application operational cycle.
DPA and differential electromagnetic analysis (DEMA) are types of SCA that involve monitoring variations in the electrical power consumption or electromagnetic emissions from a target device, respectively. DPA and DEMA attacks are non-invasive, easily automated and can be mounted without knowing the design of the target device. Unlike invasive tampering, electromagnetic attacks can even be performed at a distance. As an example, electromagnetic attacks on cell phones have been demonstrated at a range of 30 feet. DPA and DEMA countermeasures are essential to protect devices that use cryptographic keys, especially sensitive defense applications that require strong anti-tamper protection of advanced electronics and commercial devices that perform high-value processing, including mobile devices and Internet of Things (IoT) endpoints.
A U.S. Department of Commerce report found IP theft costs U.S. companies $200 billion to $250 billion annually, while the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) estimates counterfeiting and piracy cost companies as much as $638 billion per year. The SmartFusion2 and IGLOO2 FPGA's design security protocols protect confidentiality, integrity and authenticity of the customer's design IP throughout the life cycle of the FPGA, substantially reducing the risk of IP theft during manufacturing or from fielded systems. Complementing the FPGA's built-in features such as a hard true random bit generator, the Athena TeraFire IP allows users to build tamper-resistant systems using secure Microsemi FPGAs that further use the Athena soft IP and cryptographic techniques to prevent system-level counterfeiting, and to provide other information assurance services vital to the security of the user's system.
This integrated security solution of Microsemi FPGAs with the TeraFire DPA-resistant cryptographic cores, with its combination of advanced security and countermeasures, provides a safe, tamper-resistant environment for use of cryptographic keys. This is accomplished by limiting information leakage in both power consumption protecting against DPA, simple power analysis (SPA) and correlation power analysis (CPA) and electromagnetic emissions protecting against simple electromagnetic analysis (SEMA) and differential electromagnetic analysis (DEMA).
Microsemi has been granted certification of all SmartFusion2 and IGLOO2 FPGAs for seven protocols and services used to implement design security in these devices under the DPA Countermeasure Validation Program developed by Rambus Cryptography Research Division after a thorough assessment by an accredited third-party security laboratory.
Integrated into an easy-to-use security solution, customers can now embed strong IP and data protection into a wide variety of applications, including anti-tamper and information assurance, as well as wired and wireless communications. Canon Unveils New Possibilities in the World of Imaging at EXPO Paris 2015
PARIS, October 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
Imaging innovation and future concept technologies on show at flagship eventÂ
Canon Europe [http://www.canon-europe.com ], leader in imaging solutions, today opens
EXPO 2015 in Paris. At this once-every-five-years global event, the company will unveil
its strategic priorities and showcase exciting technologies that are pushing the
boundaries of what is possible in the world of imaging today, tomorrow and into the
future.
At EXPO 2015, Canon is showing how the world of imaging is expanding rapidly in the
age of the Internet of Things. In the future nearly everything will be connected through
smart devices. These rely on built-in cameras or sensors and the data they generate. As a
result, Canon predicts that the Internet of Things will largely depend on the 'Imaging of
Things.'
To deliver new possibilities in the world of imaging, Canon is building a 'Network of
Canon Companies' - an ecosystem designed to harness innovation and creative talents from
across the regions
Fujio Mitarai, Chairman and CEO, Canon Inc., ahead of his keynote speech at Canon EXPO
Paris 2015, commented: Â "I am delighted to welcome our valued partners and customers to
Paris today and to explain my vision for a future Canon, where both regional independence
and international collaboration is put into practice."
In the new network of companies, each regional headquarters will manage local R&D and
manufacturing, as well as service and support customised to its market. Â Europe will focus
on printing and network video surveillance (NVS) and Canon has already brought on board
strong leaders in these business areas such as Oce, Axis and Milestone Systems. As a
result, in addition to its global reputation for cameras, Canon is now the largest
printing and network surveillance system company in the world.
Rokus van Iperen, President and CEO, Canon Europe, Middle East and Africa, added: "We
are excited about the huge opportunities the shifting landscape presents and believe that
in the future every image should have a connection with Canon. Whether it is taking the
image, recording, storing, editing or printing it we want to play a part and are building
businesses to do this."
While capitalising on strong positions in its core markets, examples of how Canon is
driving future business growth in EMEA include:
- NVS - The combination of Canon, Axis and Milestone brings together complementary
technologies and solutions to respond to society's ever-expanding monitoring needs.
Ground-breaking new solutions, such as the concept high-sensitivity network camera
with ultra-telephoto lens on show at EXPO, demonstrate what's possible for the
security market and beyond Â

Invoke and Asta Announce the Successful Live Automation of CMR Reporting to Lloyd's Under Solvency II
LONDON, October 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
Invoke Software and Asta Managing Agency are pleased to announce the successful
submission to the Lloyd's Core Market Returns (CMR) platform of the latest round of
Solvency II Pillar 3 reports using the industry-renowned FAS Regulatory S2 application
from Invoke .
As one of the biggest managing agents in the Lloyd's market with responsibility for
seven syndicates and two special purpose syndicates, Asta is at the frontline in tackling
the challenges of Solvency II regulatory compliance.
The company has chosen Invoke Software to automate its CMR submission process on
behalf of the syndicates it manages, and this decision is already delivering significant
quantifiable benefits.
"We are pleased to announce that Asta has implemented Invoke FAS Regulatory S2 in time
for the Lloyd's Pillar 3 Dry-Run, and has successfully made ASR submissions for seven
syndicates and a special purpose syndicate using the software", comments Matt Lane, Head
of Business Intelligence and Pillar 3 Programme Manager at Asta.
"Due to the readily configurable nature of the software, we have found the
implementation to be a straight-forward, flexible and cost-effective solution to Lloyd's
Pillar 3 reporting requirements."Â
An informed choice delivering streamlined automationÂ
Being part of Lloyd's, syndicates have to comply not only with the Solvency II rules
as formulated by EIOPA, but also the existing Lloyd's standards and bylaws. Invoke FAS
Regulatory S2 was the only packaged application identified by Asta that was able to
demonstrate that it could quickly address both types of regulatory obligation.
One of the main drivers of Asta's software choice is the ability of Invoke FAS
Regulatory S2 to streamline and automate the CMR reporting process, massively cutting down
on the time needed to produce reports and reducing the risk of manual and /or spreadsheet
error from the process.
Thanks to the numerous features provided by the FAS Regulatory S2 platform, which
include embedded intra-document and cross-report validations and a colour-coded dashboard,
Asta has already seen a considerable reduction in the time spent in pre-checking and
loading data into the Lloyd's CMR platform.
"The transition to standard packaged reporting software is at an early stage in
Lloyd's syndicates. Our collaboration with the team at Asta has demonstrated that it is
possible to simplify the complex regulatory reporting imperatives faced by firms operating
in the London market. And this through a tightly steered, cross-functional project team
work coupled with an agile solution such as FAS Regulatory S2."Â
"The successful September dry run submission to Lloyd's has shown that this approach
significantly reduces the scale, associated cost and delivery risk of the internal builds
that syndicates and firms like Asta would otherwise have to embark on," concludes Amrita
Singh, Senior Project Manager at Invoke Software.

HONG KONG, Oct. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- UL, a global leader of product safety testing and certification for over 120 years, announced today the launch of its first dedicated testing and certification services for power bank manufacturing industry at the Hong Kong Electronics Fair. Tested to UL 2056, the new program specifically addresses the global gap in safety standards for power banks, safeguarding consumers against bodily harm and property damage, as well as helps protect manufacturers from the risk of expensive recalls and damaged reputations.
The requirements of UL 2056 cover power banks, sometimes also known as portable USB chargers or portable back-up battery power, which are standalone devices that incorporate batteries for mobile powering of low voltage electronic devices. Some testing items include electrical and mechanical testing to UL 2054, verification testing of the marked input current and marked capacity, testing of power overload of output ports as well as testing of flammability of integral PV cells (where applicable).
"Through the new program, manufacturers can demonstrate their power banks are in compliance of UL's stringent testing requirements and safe for end users. A product carrying a trusted UL Mark will give a confidence to consumers as it means that the sample product has been gone through a series of in-depth evaluations by UL expert engineers," said Barry Yu, general manager for Greater China, UL's Consumer Technology Division.
"UL has been taking the lead in developing safety standards for technology products so as to guide and provide immense value to developer and manufacturers of the entire consumer technology industry, helping get their products to the market efficiently," Yu added.

Zhuhai CTC Electronic Announces Delay in Releasing Inkjet 3D Printer and Relaunch Formaker on Kickstarter
Despite the delay, CTC remains confident that the firm still expects to be the first to market
ZHUHAI, China, Oct. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- We at Zhuhai CTC Electronic Co., Ltd. issued what was viewed across the industry as a ground-shaking report in early June this year announcing that we were developing China's first 3D printer based on inkjet technology and that we would unveil it at the CES in Las Vegas next year. We have decided to delay the release of the inkjet 3D printer until September 2016, rather early 2016 as originally scheduled, due to some unforeseen roadblocks in the product development process.
The unveiling at CES will be limited to a test version of the device, in consideration of its positioning as an industrial application. The printer will be officially available in early 2017. The inkjet printing market monopolized by such brands as 3D System, Solidscape and Objet is regarded as the most promising area in that the technologies are considered superior to FDM, SLA, SLS and SLM. We can see from the frequent delays in the release of HP's MJM products that there is indeed high demand for the technology, nevertheless the delays by a leading U.S.-based maker also explain why no Chinese vendor has yet developed such high-precision devices.
CTC public relations manager He Siyi disclosed the two reasons for the delay: its partner University of London has encountered delays in the progress of developing the materials and the company itself faced challenges with the software lectotype. Having closely analyzed the situation, CTC decided to increase the investment in the program from 8 million yuan (approx. US$1.25 million) to 12 million yuan (approx. US$1.9 million), with the aim of introducing the beta product ahead of HP.
Ms. He also let it be known that the yet unnamed printer will use two resins as the main and supporting ingredients, with a printing area of approx. 200 mm X 230mm X 198 mm, a maximum resolution of 750 * 1600 and a layer thickness as low as 25 microns.
CTC also had some good news: its product Formaker had recently returned to the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter after going through a bumpy crowdfunding journey overseas. You can visit the link at: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2141865151/ctc-4-in-1-cnc-mill-laser-pcb-3d-printer-all-in-on. The company looks forward to providing a more high-quality 3D printing experience for users worldwide through this product.
Launch of TUV SUD-WT Certification Mark at Wearable Technologies Conference 2015 in Hong Kong
HONG KONG, Oct. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The 3(rd) Wearable Technologies Conference in Asia, organised jointly by Wearable Technologies Group (WT) and TUV SUD, was held on 12(th) October 2015 at the Renaissance Hong Kong Harbour View Hotel. Almost 200 attendees from the wearable technology industry participated in the conference, where they learned about the latest trends and technological developments in medical and consumer wearable technologies. The highlight of the event, however, was the Asia launch of the TUV SUD-WT Certification Mark, which provides a one-stop solution for ensuring the quality and safety of wearable technologies.
The global wearable's market is expected to grow at a compound annual rate of 35% over the next five years, reaching 148 million units shipped annually in 2019, up from 33 million units shipped in 2014. To capitalise on this rapid growth, wearable device manufacturers need to address a wide range of factors that affect the quality, performance and safety of their products. TUV SUD and WT has jointly organised this event to help the wearable industry players in Hong Kong gain insights on how they can ensure user safety. "I am very glad to see the rapid growth for this emerging industry," said Dr. Axel Stepken, Chairman of the Board of Management of TUV SUD AG. "As with nearly all new technologies' birth and development, wearable technologies also face all sorts of potential risks which consumers are well aware of. This is why wearable products should comply with all technical regulations of the market where the product is being sold, including all aspects of safety, connectivity, skin contact, mobile application testing as well as ensuring compliance to national and international regulations. To this end, we have launched the new TUV SUD-WT Certification Mark in Asia during this event with WT as part of our partnership established to offer worldwide testing for all wearable products."
About the TUV SUD-WT Certification Mark
The TUV SUD-WT Certification Mark is an innovative development in the testing of new technologies. It is the first certification mark in the wearable industry that is dedicated to activity trackers. TUV SUD's partnership with WT enables us to create services customised for the industry where we will help manufacturers to assess and make recommendations on all aspects of safety, connectivity, skin contact and mobile application testing as well as ensuring compliance with national and international regulations. The certification mark is therefore an important entry point for the wearable technologies market, and one that adds significant additional value. Quality and safety are major concerns for the wearable technologies industry, and the TUV SUD-WT Certification Mark allows buyers and retailers to be confident about the safety of products so that they can focus more on their user experience with the new innovation.
TUV SUD partners wearable device industry players to manage their risks and act as their international regulatory approvals department by providing experts who research approval requirements for individual access. "With the global footprint of labs and experts worldwide, customers can enjoy the close proximity to the testing locations and expertise from TUV SUD. We are expecting the first wearable product certified with TUV SUD-WT Certification Mark to be in market by the end of this year." said Mr. Ishan Palit, CEO of TUV SUD's Global Product Service Division.
TUV SUD is a premium quality, safety, and sustainability solutions provider that specialises in testing, inspection, auditing, certification, training, and knowledge services. Since 1866, the company has remained committed to its founding principle of protecting people, property and the environment from technology-related risks. GlassesOff's New Dynamic Game-Like Technology Shows Significant Improvement in Visual Parameters Critical for Sport Performance
New study will be presented today at the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies(FENS) meeting.
NEW YORK, October 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
GlassesOff Inc. (OTCBB: GLSO) announced today the results of a new study among young
people that showed significant improvement across multiple visual performance parameters,
consistent with an increase in visual processing speed. Visual processing speed is
considered critical for superior athletic performance in sports that require swift
reaction time.
The new study demonstrated that playing a simple, dynamic mobile game with
GlassesOff's new dynamic technology could result in a significant real-life increase in
visual processing speed. In addition, the required daily game-playing duration was
successfully decreased to approximately five minutes, a 50% decrease from the
older-generation GlassesOff platform technology.
The study included 20 young adults with normal or corrected-to-normal vision in both
eyes. All participants completed a total of 40 sessions, and their vision performance was
tested before and after the study. Following the use of GlassesOff's new dynamic game-like
technology, participants achieved significant improvement in both far and near visual
performance, such as visual acuity, reaction time, stereo acuity and contrast sensitivity.
This improvement, together with improvement in temporal masking is consistent with an
increase of visual processing speed.
Nimrod Madar, CEO of GlassesOff, said: "When we first set out to develop a new product
aiming to improve professional and recreational athletes' performance, it was clear that
we needed to develop a product that doesn't only demonstrate scientific efficacy, but is
also fun to use. We are very pleased with the new generation of our technology, and we
continue to focus on the planned launch of our sports application, as well as the
anticipated launch of a new GlassesOff(TM) reading improvement product, which we expect
will also use this new platform. With these new launches, we plan on offering our clients,
both those seeking to improve in sports and reading, a dynamic and fun game experience
that delivers significant value in about five minutes of daily game play."
GlassesOff will present the findings from the study today, Friday October 9, at the
Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS) meeting, in Thessaloniki, Greece at
1:40 PM local time.Â
