Wireless Power Consortium Extends Qi Standard to Include Longer Range Magnetic Resonance Wireless Charging
TAIPEI, Taiwan, April 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Wireless Power Consortium today announced that the Qi open wireless charging standard is capable of providing full support and compatibility for longer-distance magnetic resonance technologies.
Qi is the global standard for wireless power and charging. Devices are charged just by placing them on, or near, any Qi-enabled surface. Any Qi-enabled device works with any Qi charger, regardless of brand or manufacturer, making charging simple and convenient. Qi is supported by a quickly expanding list of over 100 industry-leading companies and is increasingly integrated into mobile phones, accessories, and public spaces in the US, Japan, China, and Europe.
The Qi standard is a fully open and flexible platform, and as it evolves, the WPC regularly approves new transmitter designs proposed by its members. Earth Modelling, a cloud-based geophysical inversion software service
that generates 3D voxel models from airborne or ground gravity and

Over the past decade, 3D geophysical modelling has become increasingly
important to exploration around the world. The ability to convert
geophysical measurements directly into 3D images of subsurface rock
properties that can be integrated with other exploration information in

Referring to the analytic concepts in the popular film and book Moneyball, McDonald said that data integration and big analytics can help assure decision-makers that their important decisions are fact-based - and not weakened by errors - because all data is integrated and available for analysis. This approach cuts analysis time from weeks to near-real time and enables continuous improvement to meet constantly changing technology, regulatory and mission needs.
The State of Michigan is using a large Teradata analytic platform to produce a return on investment of one million dollars a day. McDonald told the subcommittee to imagine what could be accomplished at the scale of the federal government, using the State of Michigan as the example. He said that this approach works well everywhere it is deployed, and encouraged federal agencies to take note. He commented that advanced analytics produces powerful results for scientific research projects; and the parallel practice of big data analytics offers great opportunities for many agencies' day-to-day operations.
McDonald also offered other noteworthy cases where big analytics technology has clearly helped business and government improve decisions, performance and services.
