Free Service for Patients Makes Medical Appointments Available Instantly Online
SEATTLE, Jan. 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Today ZocDoc launches in the Greater Seattle region, offering instant access to doctor appointments online and via its free mobile applications. At launch, the service provides patients with their choice of more than 50,000 available appointments with participating primary care doctors, obstetrician-gynecologists and dermatologists throughout the Seattle area.
ZocDoc's mission is to improve access to healthcare. Cyrus Massoumi, ZocDoc co-founder and CEO, developed the idea for ZocDoc while on a flight from Seattle to New York in 2007. He burst his eardrum during the flight, and upon landing in New York he was unable to find a doctor who could see him for four days. "My painful experience made me realize that while technology has brought us instant access to books, flights, and music, nothing is more important than medical care when you need it. No service existed that could deliver instant access to a doctor," said Massoumi. Seattle-area residents wait more than two weeks on average for medical appointments, according to a study by healthcare search and consulting firm Merritt Hawkins. ZocDoc's unique system reveals a hidden supply of doctor availability, including appointments cancelled last-minute by patients, and makes it instantly accessible online. The system thus reduces wait times for patients and increases efficiency for medical providers - a vital service given the country's current doctor shortage. Forty percent of all appointments scheduled by ZocDoc users occur within one day, and 60 percent of ZocDoc appointments take place within three days.
As of today, primary care physicians, obstetrician-gynecologists, and dermatologists are offering more than 50,000 appointments across Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma, and the surrounding areas. Additional doctors, specialties, and appointment times will be added in the coming months.

--Chinese Cell Phones, Loved by Bad Guys, Hated By Investigators, Can Now be Analyzed With New Forensic Tool--
ATLANTA, Jan. 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- (DoD BOOTH #116)-A new forensic tool introduced by eDEC Digital Forensics (http://www.edecdigitalforensics.com) of Santa Barbara, CA, an innovator in the field of mobile digital forensics, assisted a DEA investigation by acquiring a treasure trove of evidence from 3 Chinese cell phones confiscated from a suspected drug trafficker. A sign of the times, the new cell phone analysis tool, called Tarantula, was designed specifically to analyze the millions of Chinese phones flooding into western markets. Criminals have adopted the phones because they are cheap and notoriously difficult to analyze.
In the DEA case, Tarantula acquired evidence from three Chinese knock-off ("white-box") cell phones seized from the suspect. The system acquired previously deleted data such as text messages and contacts from the devices and, possibly most valuable, was the acquisition of user PIN lock codes, allowing investigators to unlock SIM cards that provided further evidence. The LAPD investigator on the case explained, "Without [Tarantula], valuable information to further tie the suspects together would not have been found. eDEC's advanced technology and Chinese chipset knowledge proved invaluable in this case."
Cheap, knock-off phones being exported from China to international markets have long frustrated forensic investigators. The absence of industry standards makes them time consuming and sometimes impossible to analyze. This has made the inexpensive phones a favorite of criminals, including terrorists, gang bangers, and organized smugglers.
Tarantula was originally developed for use in China where law enforcement first encountered the knock-off cell phone problem. But with China exporting hundreds of millions of phones every year to international markets, the system is now in high demand by both western law enforcement and the military.
eDEC employs a technical team in Beijing to constantly scour the market for new devices turning-up in markets there to keep the tool up-to-date in one of the fastest growing industries in the world.

Scoring system encourages parents and teens to share teachable moments by competing for best scores
BLOOMINGTON, Ill., Jan. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- For most people, using a smartphone while driving is the last thing anyone would want to encourage in the interest of safe driving. But today, State Farm has made the Driver Feedback(TM) app available on Android devices. This free app turns a person's cell phone into a pocket-sized driving coach when placed in the car without using it. The application, available for Android, iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, provides users individual feedback about their driving habits and then offers tips on how people can drive more safely.
Research shows that certain driving habits can increase the risk of a car crash. The Driver Feedback app uses the device's accelerometer to measure three essential driving behaviors:
