AeroSpec Takes "No Compromise" Approach with EMC VNXe for 100% Virtualized Private Cloud
Performance Doubled, 75% Storage Utilization Boost and 80% Less Time Spent on IT Administration
HOPKINTON, Mass., Nov. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- EMC Corporation (NYSE: EMC) today announced that AeroSpec, Inc., a developer and manufacturer of automated and semi-automated production equipment for manufacturing processes, selected EMC(®) VNXe((TM)) unified storage and VMware vSphere(®) virtualization solutions to dramatically improve system performance, efficiency, simplicity and data availability--with no compromise--while reducing operating costs in a 100% virtualized private cloud infrastructure.
Customer Benefits:
-- Return on Investment--AeroSpec expects to achieve a full return on
investment of its VNXe within one-year.
-- Increased Efficiency--VNXe thin provisioning improved storage
utilization by 75%.
-- Increased Simplicity and Agility--Test environments are created in
one-minute with VNXe compared to several weeks, while time spent on
storage and server administration has decreased by 80%.
-- Improved Performance--The unified storage environment has doubled
AeroSpec's system performance and data access speeds including access to
its Exchange environment--in a 100% virtualized environment.
Customer Challenges
As AeroSpec's formerly direct-attached storage (DAS) infrastructure grew, its IT department was becoming more concerned about data redundancy and downtime risks. Its previous IT configuration included a rack of servers that each had its own unique storage. Data availability, data redundancy, and backup were areas for concern for AeroSpec, which has an IT infrastructure that stores hundreds of thousands of digital engineering drawings online. Additionally, the equipment manufacturer wanted to ensure uninterrupted and fast access to its data.
Working with EMC partner, PC Connection, to improve performance and availability, AeroSpec selected EMC VNXe unified storage for its "no compromise" unified storage solution providing efficiency, capacity, performance and simplicity. AeroSpec has replaced its entire storage infrastructure with EMC VNXe, VMware vSphere and multicore servers while transitioning to a 100% virtualized IT environment.
Customer Quotes:
Erich Becker, AeroSpec's Director, Information Systems
"I migrated our entire environment over and had it running--servers, VNXe, and VMware vSphere--over a two-week period of evenings and weekends. Even though I had never worked with VNXe and VMware, the outstanding integration between the two products--and the assistance provided by the graphical wizards--made everything simple. In the old days if we wanted a new test environment, it took weeks to order and deploy a new server and storage. With VNXe and VMware, I can create a test environment in one-minute. We've saved a ton of time and money on new equipment."
"Our performance on VNXe is twice as fast as our older systems. The VNXe has provided 2x faster access to our Exchange environment for example. I also love the flexibility of VNXe. I can easily move data around, the architecture is designed to be highly available, and with VNXe there's always a backup. We simply don't have any downtime."
"We've made a quantum leap in our efficiency with VNXe. For a small, growing business like ours, that's huge. With VNXe thin provisioning, we've increased storage utilization by 75%, delaying storage purchases as a result. When I need to allocate new storage, all I do is click a button, I don't need to deal with command lines or learning complex algorithms. We've reduced our time spent managing storage and servers by 80%. We're estimating full payback from our VNXe in one-year."

Polaroid Announces the Z340 Instant Digital Camera
Available Today, the New Polaroid Z340 Instant Digital Camera Reinvents Instant Photography for the Digital Age, Marrying the Flexibility and Convenience of a Digital Camera with the Classic Polaroid Instant Experience
MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Polaroid announced the Z340 Instant Digital Camera, the next step in the evolution of the famed instant camera. Featuring a full-function 14.0 megapixel digital camera and integrated ZINK® printer, the Polaroid Z340 camera delivers a new twist on the instant experience. The Polaroid Z340 camera allows users to customize each individual photo between snap and share - making the newest product from the Polaroid family a digital photo booth that turns your images into a new social currency in less than one minute.
Since the launch of the Polaroid Land Camera in 1948, the first instant camera, people around the world have enjoyed the magic of Polaroid instant photography. The Polaroid Z340 camera delivers the same instant experience that is synonymous with the Polaroid brand: a simple, quick and easy way to capture, print, share and create with snapshots from our lives.
Unlike any other camera available today, the Polaroid Z340 pays homage to its analog predecessors, yet contains an advanced, easy-to-use digital feature set. Designed for portability, the Z340 combines a 14.0 megapixel digital camera with a ZINK-enabled printer using the ink-free Zero Ink Printing Technology from ZINK Imaging to deliver a 3x4'' print - the same size as the classic Polaroid photos that captured millions of special memories over the past 63 years. The Polaroid Z340 camera gives you even more options for instant printing: choose the iconic Polaroid Classic BorderLogo or full bleed and contemporary 3x4'' photos.
"Polaroid photos connect people together in a way that is more personal than any photo tag, slideshow or comment box, yet digital images shape our stories," said Scott W. Hardy, President, Polaroid. "The Z340 brings these two worlds together in harmony by merging the excitement of the instant printing experience with the ease of digital photography and sharing. We're very excited to share the wonders of instant photography with a new generation."
Designed to be both a digital and instant camera, the Z340 is a part of the Polaroid experience that injects more life, meaning and features into your photos than any other imaging device:
1. Fuses the digital and analog worlds: Featuring a 14.0 megapixel digital
camera and integrated ZINK printer, the Z340 camera produces vibrant
photos with the patented ZINK Paper®, an advanced composite material
with cyan, yellow, and magenta dye crystals embedded inside. Before
printing, the embedded dye crystals are clear, so the ZINK Paper looks
like regular white photo paper. The Z340 uses heat to activate and
colorize these crystals.
2. Superb Print Quality: The Polaroid Z340 camera uses ZINK Imaging's second
generation of the ZINK Technology, delivering vibrant and highly
saturated prints. ZINK prints emerge fully developed and protected by a
smudge-proof, water-resistant coating.
3. Made to be mobile: Designed for old and new fans of Polaroid, the Z340
camera's one pound, seven ounce, simple and intuitive features make
instant printing and digital photography effortless with its rechargeable
lithium-ion battery that prints up to 25 photos and 75 captures.
4. Snap, view, share and store: Simply snap, check out images on the Z340
camera's 2.7'' LCD screen and choose photos for printing - just like
that, favorite images are instantly shared, no connections required.
Just like a regular digital camera your images can be automatically saved
to the on-board SD card. Various settings allow you to automatically
print every picture or be more selective and wait for that right picture
so there are no more wasted prints.
5. Get creative: No need to phone a friend to ask for help with computer
upload and editing tricks - on-board editing features allow review and
cropping prior to printing. Unique border options give your photos even
more of a voice. You can even upload your own custom borders to the
camera.
6. Aesthetically Pleasing and Environmentally Responsible: Reminiscent of
Polaroid cameras of the past, the Polaroid Z340 camera is clearly a
significant departure from a typical camera. Designed for both form and
function, photo printing is now as portable as photo taking: ZINK
Technology does not require messy ribbons, toner or inkjet cartridges.

Student Hackers and a Dose of Skepticism Secure Vital Hardware
NYU-Poly and UConn Researchers Develop New Design Techniques to Protect Against Vulnerabilities in the Electronics Supply Chain
NEW YORK, Nov. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- New design techniques to protect vulnerable hardware from malicious manufacturing flaws have been developed by researchers at Polytechnic Institute of New York University (NYU-Poly) and the University of Connecticut with some help from the crowd.
Ramesh Karri, NYU-Poly professor of electrical and computer engineering, explains that most engineers design systems under the assumption that the underlying hardware is trustworthy; in other words, free of malicious elements. That assumption, he says, is false.
In May 2010, for example, the FBI's Operation Network Raider seized more than 700 pieces of counterfeit Cisco network hardware and labels with an estimated retail value of more than $143 million. While that scheme was likely conceived for financial gain, designers of integrated circuits, or microchips, also need to protect military, financial, transportation and other critical digital infrastructure from Trojans inserted by intruders with other criminal or military intentions. Like the Trojan horses of Greek mythology, cyber Trojans appear to be harmless but instead steal information or harm a system once it is in operation.
Karri and researchers from the University of Connecticut developed new techniques that designers can use to defend against weaknesses in the supply chain, which typically includes an overseas manufacturer and often stretches across the globe. Their new "design for trust" techniquesupdate the well established "design for manufacturability" and "design for testability" mantras. They were outlined in two IEEE Computer Magazine articles, "Trustworthy Hardware: Trojan Detection and Design-for-Trust Challenges," and "Trustworthy Hardware: Identifying and Classifying Hardware Trojans."
"The 'design for trust' techniques build on existing design and testing methods," explains Karri.
One such technique involves ring oscillators, which are sets of odd numbered, inverting logic gates that designers use to ensure an integrated circuit's reliability. Circuits with ring oscillators produce specific frequencies based on the arrangement of ring oscillators. Trojans alter the original design's frequencies and alert testers to a compromised circuit. However, sophisticated criminals could account for the frequency change in their Trojan design and implementation. Karri and his team suggest designers thwart their tactics by creating more variants of ring oscillator arrangements than criminals can keep track of, making it harder for them to implant a Trojan without testers detecting it.
Unlike microbiologists with relatively easy access to sample viruses, Karri and other hardware security researchers cannot study ample real-world Trojans because companies and governments are reluctant to share infected hardware for reasons of intellectual property, national security or fear of embarrassment. So Karri and his colleagues turned to the crowd to collect sample Trojans that informed their design-for-trust techniques.
Graduate and undergraduate students from across the country build and detect hardware Trojans for the Embedded Systems Challenge, part of NYU-Poly's annual Cyber Security Awareness Week (CSAW) white-hat hacking competition. Karri and his team analyzed a diverse collection of 58 submissions from the 2008 competition and developed a taxonomy that is helping to standardize metrics for evaluating Trojans.
Crowdsourcing Trojans benefits the team's research and will help guide future researchers and practitioners, according to Jeyavijayan Rajendran, an NYU-Poly electrical and computer engineering doctoral candidate and co-author. Rajendran was the 2009 winner of the Embedded Systems Challenge and has been the student leader of the national challenge since then. In the 2010 competition, Rajendran's 2009-winning defense was successfully attacked. "I went back and studied the vulnerabilities and developed additional techniques to fix them," he says. "The Embedded Systems Challenge changed my research process. Now I am not only thinking from a defender's point of view, but I am also thinking from an attacker's point of view."
Trojans from the Embedded Systems Challenge and the design-for-trust techniques are available on TrustHub.org, a National Science Foundation (NSF) funded site created to encourage community building and knowledge exchange among hardware security researchers and professionals. NYU-Poly is one of four cybersecurity research institutions that founded the site.
In addition to the NSF, the Air Force Research Laboratory supports Karri and his team's research at NYU-Poly. The final rounds of the 2011 NYU-Poly CSAW challenges will be held Nov. 9 - 11, 2011, in Brooklyn. To register, visit http://www.poly.edu/csaw2011.

AdTruth Demonstrates First Implementation of DNT Technology by a Device Recognition Company
Pro-privacy approach recognized by Mozilla
NEW YORK, Nov. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- AdTruth(TM), a pro-privacy device recognition technology initiative within 41st Parameter, has unveiled the first implementation of Mozilla's Do Not Track (DNT:1) by a company actively developing audience tracking technology. The live demo can be seen in person in booth #2046 at ad:tech.
"We take privacy extremely seriously," said Geoff Gieron, business development strategist at AdTruth. "Too many vendors look to obey the letter - but not the spirit - of privacy rules and regulations. That's exactly the wrong approach. We embrace and adhere to the strictest interpretation of privacy regulations and believe that the right approach is also the best approach for our business."
AdTruth's device recognition technology maintains user anonymity while enabling marketers to collect the targeting data they need. In the case where people elect to opt out of tracking all together, AdTruth honors the Do Not Track HTTP header (DNT:1), ensuring that consumer requests are respected. Mozilla has recognized and noted AdTruth's pro-privacy efforts in their privacy blog.
The video demo, which shows how simple it is for a person to opt-out of being tracked, is available on the AdTruth site. When someone tells a browser supporting DNT that they do not want to be tracked, AdTruth ceases collecting any data, perfectly preserving their privacy and anonymity.
AdTruth is currently in production pilots with a number of companies in the digital advertising industry. Companies interested in exploring the benefits of the technology should contact AdTruth at info@adtruth.com.
About AdTruth
Born of the inherent conflict between tracking online behavior and privacy, AdTruth meets the needs of the advertising industry while respecting the wishes of consumers. AdTruth augments cookie-based tracking technologies by recognizing a device without collecting any personally identifiable information. AdTruth works on all devices--PCs, laptops, smartphones and tablets--to increase audience recognition for targeting and retargeting. For more information about AdTruth, visit http://www.adtruth.com.
ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Technology has changed the way we exchange information but meeting rooms have not kept pace. We bring our laptops, iPads, and other digital information to a typical meeting room and it's like taking a well tuned sports car onto a dirt road. Connect113 in Alexandria, VA is paving the way for modern meetings.
Most conference rooms today look like they just removed the ashtrays from the table. Indeed, these rooms worked well back in the days of the smoke filled office when the predominant item to be shared was paper. You pushed a copy of your report on pork belly production across the table to your partner. You discussed it face to face with some privacy or perhaps some others joined as well. But there was nothing between you.
Today everyone brings some sort of electronic device to the table. There is very little paper and most sharing is done with a screen. Traditional meeting room configurations make sharing digital information awkward. How many meetings have you seen where people are sliding their machines across the table so folks can see something on a 13" screen?
It's time to change. The canvas of a modern meeting is a digital screen, not paper. So let's orient ourselves that way.
At Connect113, a shared workplace community in the Washington, DC metro area, workers come together to meet in rooms designed for the digital age. Chana Morrow, manager of the facility notes, "there is access to power everywhere. We also have a cabinet full of adapters so that everything from old PC's to the latest MacBook Pro can be connected to a screen."
The rooms are arranged so that there are comfortable positions for people to interact with each other as well as with the information on their computers or on the white boards which are typically wall to wall. Some rooms use cleverly designed switch boxes so that multiple users can connect their machines to a single large HD screen with the touch of a button. With wireless printing screen images is easy. Webcams can bring in outside participants via Skype, Facetime, etc..
Connect113 is membership based and has meeting rooms for rent to the public. It is located in old town Alexandria in the heart of the Washington DC metro area. For information call 703-738-9998.

TruthSeal will immediately begin reviewing commercial and political claims submitted by organizations wanting to display a TruthSeal emblem as evidence that their claims are factual. A TruthSeal license requires claims to be guaranteed with a cash bond that can be forfeited if the claim is proven invalid by a third party. This combination of verifiable evidence and a forfeitable bond strengthens the claims of TruthSeal licensees, providing a guarantee of truth and competitive advantage over rivals.

Regatta Travel Solutions Unveils Facebook Booking Engine Tool for DMOs
MIAMI, Nov. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Regatta Travel Solutions announced today that it has developed and launched a live Facebook booking engine tool for Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs). The announcement comes just in time for tomorrow's much anticipated Social Media Tourism Symposium taking place at Harrah's Casino in Tunica, Mississippi.
"We know that DMOs are spending a lot of time, energy and money on social media these days," commented Ashwin Kamlani, President of Regatta Travel Solutions. "There are CVBs that have tens of thousands of Facebook fans, and absolutely no way to measure what effect their efforts have on their destination. By using Regatta for booking hotels, villas and activities in the destination, CVBs can use our Facebook app to attract customers to transact with them through Facebook and visit their destination. We can then track exactly how much revenue is generated from these efforts."
Regatta is in the process of implementing its Facebook Booking Engine tool for all of its clients starting with the Destination St. Lucia. Travel suppliers in these destinations will have the ability to load special rates and offers for fans of the destination, and can even specify unique cancellation policies for these potential customers. Customers who book on DMO sites powered by Regatta will have the ability to instantly share links during the booking process with their friends and contacts through Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin that lead to special offers only available through social networks.
About Regatta Travel Solutions
Regatta Travel Solutions provides specialized online booking technology and marketing tactics for DMOs (Destination Marketing Organizations). DMOs that use Regatta to book travel on their sites can increase demand for their destination, lower the cost paid by suppliers per booking, and increase membership and participation for their organizations. New Year's Resolutions: It Takes a Community and 21 Days to Change a Habit
New Website Helps Encourage People to Make Positive Strides
HOUSTON, Nov. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- To change a habit, it takes 21 days --and a community. That's according to a new website, LoopChange, http://www.LoopChange.com.
The new website is perfect for people who ask:
-- How can I lose weight?
-- How can I exercise regularly?
-- How can I stop smoking?
-- How can I balance my life and spend more time with my kids?
-- How can I make time to read the Bible every day?
People post their goals on the website and community members encourage each other to stick with their plan to reach their goal.
The idea for the website came from Steve Simpson, an oil and gas executive in nearby Conroe, TX, who wants to provide more encouragement for people.
"My life was stale. I was having trouble changing habits," he said. "I found a friend and we encouraged each other. Having a person encourage you really does give you the help you need to change a habit or develop a new habit."
Research shows that it takes most people 21 days to develop a habit. But most people give up too soon because they don't have the willpower to continue. Just think of your New Year's Resolutions that are forgotten shortly after they are made.
That's where the community comes in to play.
"It takes strength to make changes in your life, whether it is a little thing like biting your nails or a big thing like finding time to spend with your kids," he said.
"When I was growing up, I didn't have a lot of encouragement in my life. As an adult, I realized how powerful encouragement is," said Simpson. "I have 2 kids, ages 6 and 3. Being a parent and a sports coach, it amazes me how much a single word of encouragement can help motivate someone."
The accountability section works in two ways.
Once you've begun a mission, you'll find that people are reading what you've written and commenting on it. They might be encouraging you, letting you know how you've inspired them, pointing out flaws in your thinking, or sharing their experiences if they've faced similar struggles. This will create some accountability on your part since other people will have taken a vested interest in your progress.
Second, if you fail to update your mission for a period of 24 hours, you'll receive an email from the website. This email will remind you that you haven't updated your mission; and it will tell you how many times your mission has been viewed since you last updated it.
"If 25 people have checked your mission to see if it's been updated (and it hasn't) you're probably going to want to let them know what is happening with you. They care. They are interested. You are significant to them, so don't let them down!" he said.
The site does not accept advertising and Simpson has no financial plans for the site.
"This site really is a labor of love and my way of giving back and helping make the world a better place," he said. "I found a system that worked for me. I thought it would work for other people. I like encouraging people."
"First and foremost the website is a tool for helping people become the person they want to become. I equate it to free life coaching," he said.
The site went online in June. About 250 people have signed up to get encouragement and to encourage others.
Visitors to the site who have become members of the community have reported they have:
-- Gotten a new outlook on life
-- Improved sleeping patterns
-- Studied more for school
-- Meditated every day
-- Written three things he is thankful for
-- Read the Bible every day
-- Drunk enough water based on doctor's recommendations
-- Given up TV for 21 days
-- Cut out social drinking
He has high hopes for the site.
"In a perfect world, a community would form. The community would consist of people who want to help improve themselves one little thing at a time, and encourage other people. They would be an accountable group of people who are excited by helping each other."
He really wants to change the mindset of some people who like to put others down.
"In our world, some people are happier when others fail. It makes them feel bad if others succeed. It reminds them of their own inadequacies. I think it would be cool if we could break that," he said.
Document Sharing, Access, and Backup Solution Uses Amazon S3, OpenStack, Google Cloud Storage and More
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Nov. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- With an install base of more than a million users, cloud storage access solution provider Gladinet (http://www.gladinet.com) has received significant market confirmation for its cloud storage access platform. Now, with the release of Gladinet Cloud for Teams, the company provides a complete solution for the "BASIC" cloud storage use cases (Backup, Access, Sharing, Identity, and Control).
When asked for comment on the new release, Jerry Huang, Gladinet's CEO, responded: "We have two goals for this release. Primarily, we want to provide a centrally managed, end-to-end cloud storage access solution that would cater to small- and medium-sized business (SMB) needs. Our second goal was to provide a solution that allowed our customers and partners to plug-in existing storage services such as Amazon S3, OpenStack or Google Cloud Storage."
As a result, the company released Gladinet Cloud for Teams with the following capabilities:
-- Instant, anywhere access to cloud and local storage
-- Central management of identities, quotas and access
-- Centrally managed collaboration
-- Cloud backup of important data
-- Pluggable storage from Gladinet or an external customer account
The primary new feature in Gladinet Cloud for Teams introduces the idea of attaching local folders to the cloud. These folders can be attached from any server or desktop client and are immediately accessible to team members, based on permissions set by an administrator. Once a folder is attached, it is placed under version control so that changes from multiple users do not collide, and the folder will be migrated to the cloud in the background.
This feature allows small- and medium-sized businesses to migrate their data to the cloud smoothly with instant accessibility and no interruption in availability. For example, there will be no data ingestion delays for large data sets. Customers can avoid mailing physical media to their provider when large data sets need to be migrated to the cloud. Instead, they now have the option of attaching these large folders to the cloud, thereby making the data immediately available to all team members while the data is migrated in the background.
Attached folders also create a powerful file sharing solution. Instead of pushing around individual files in email attachments, users can collaboratively access common folders where their shared files are stored. And these shared folders are instantly accessible, regardless of the folder size.
Other notable features include integration with existing Gladinet products, such as Gladinet Cloud Desktop and Gladinet Cloud Server, which provide native access to the cloud from user desktops and file servers.
With the Gladinet Cloud, Gladinet customers get what they have been asking for: a centrally managed cloud storage solution for backup, access, and sharing, with identity-based access controls and collaboration. Both partners and customers benefit from the ability to integrate the solution with their choice of cloud storage services.
About Gladinet
Founded in 2008, Gladinet started by providing users the convenience of a network drive attached to cloud storage. Gladinet continues to change the way businesses access and use cloud storage through its widely accepted cloud storage services and access platform. Learn more at http://www.gladinet.com. Lippis Test Results Show Extreme Networks as the Fastest Switch Vendor for Cloud and Mobile Network Markets
BlackDiamond® X8 core switch tests 3-10X faster than competing core switches tested by Lippis/Ixia
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Extreme Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: EXTR) today announced the results of independent performance tests by Lippis Reports for its cloud switch.
The BlackDiamond X8 switch, part of Extreme Networks Open Fabric, tested 3-10X faster than any core Ethernet switch in its form factor, and had the lowest latency and best power efficiency per port -- critical attributes in carrier and enterprise data centers, Cloud-based storage and HPCC -- according to independent tests run by Ixia at its iSimCity(TM) labs.
"The BlackDiamond X8 shattered all performance records with superior bandwidth, lossless performance and extremely low latency, making it the best-in-class choice for high-performance networks," said Nick Lippis, principal analyst for The Lippis Report. "I commend Extreme Networks for designing such a remarkable product."
The BlackDiamond X8 Open Fabric switch offers the highest 10GbE and 40GbE port density to seamlessly support up to 768 wire-speed 10GbE connected servers in 1/3 of a 42 RU rack or 2,304 servers in a rack. It offers the capacity to send the entire contents of the Apple App Store in about 2 seconds (Based on 500,000 active apps x 5.0 megabytes = 2.3 terabytes).
BlackDiamond X8 Test Highlights:
-- Lowest average latency of 2.3 microseconds for Layer 2 traffic.
-- Up to half the power consumption of competitors. 8.1 Watts per 10GbE
port at 1/3 loading, estimated to be 5 Watts per 10GbE port at full
loading.
-- 100% throughput with 0 packet loss as a percentage of line-rate across
all 256-10GbE and 24-40GbE ports.
Ultra-Low Latency
Extreme Networks BlackDiamond X8 was tested across all 256 ports of 10GbE and 24 ports of 40GbE. Its latency was the best tested yet of competing core switches, with cut-through latency ranging impressively from a low average of 2.32 microseconds for 64 byte frames, to a high average of 12.755 microseconds at 9216 byte frames for Layer 2 network traffic. All other core switches tested by Lippis/Ixia demonstrated latency above 11.80 microseconds for 64 byte frames and 34.7 for 9216 byte frames.
Energy Efficiency
The BlackDiamond X8 tested with the best energy efficiency per port (Watts/10GbE port) and highest TEER (Telecommunications Energy Efficiency Ratio) value observed for core switches. Its WattsATIS/port is 8.1 and TEER value is 117. While these results are the lowest Watts/10GbE port and highest TEER values observed for core switches, the BlackDiamond X8's actual Watts/10GbE port is even lower. The Lippis Report estimates approximately 5 Watts/10GbE port when fully populated with 768 10GbE or 192 40GbE ports. During the Lippis/Ixia test, the BlackDiamond X8 was only populated to a third of its port capacity yet was equipped with power supplies, fans, and management and switch fabric modules for full port density population. All other core switches tested by Lippis/Ixia ranged from 11 to 17.5 WattsATIS/port.
Lossless Throughput of 10 and 40GbE
As part of the Lippis/Ixia testing, the BlackDiamond X8 switch featuring an Ethernet-based fabric for the cloud, demonstrated 100% throughput as a percentage of line rate across 256-10GbE and 24-40GbE ports. Not a single packet was dropped while the BlackDiamond X8 switch was presented with enough traffic to populate its 256-10GbE and 24-40GbE ports at line rate simultaneously for L2/L3 traffic flows; a first in these Lippis/Ixia tests. The BlackDiamond X8 also demonstrated 100% of aggregated forwarding rate as percentage of line rate during congestion conditions. A single 10GbE port was flooded at 150% of line rate. The BlackDiamond X8 also demonstrated 100% aggregated throughput for IP multicast traffic with latencies ranging from a 2.87 microseconds at 64 byte packet to 11.5 microseconds at 9216 byte packets.
To learn more about the BlackDiamond X8's unrivaled performance and to view a video interview with Extreme Networks and Nick Lippis, visit the results page.
The BlackDiamond X8 is expected to start shipping in the first calendar quarter of 2012.

"Qualcomm has been investing in wireless power for a number of years and the HaloIPT acquisition will further strengthen our technology and patent portfolio," said Andrew Gilbert, executive vice president of European Innovation Development for Qualcomm. "Building on 20 years of development and innovation in wireless power at The University of Auckland and its commercialization company Auckland UniServices Ltd, the HaloIPT team, in a relatively short period of the time, had established itself as a leading developer in wireless electric road vehicle charging -- with HaloIPT winning industry acclamation and awards."
"We are immensely proud of what has been achieved by our team at HaloIPT over the past 18 months," said John Miles, Executive Chairman of HaloIPT and a Director at Arup. "In that short space of time, we have brought world-class university research to the attention of the global automotive industry and, through really innovative design, demonstrated the potential for wireless charging in front of several of the world's leading OEMs. That has been a terrific achievement."
In addition to the HaloIPT transaction, Qualcomm and Auckland UniServices, the commercialization company of the University of Auckland, have committed to a long-term research and development arrangement to promote continued innovation in the field of wireless charging for electric road vehicles by way of inductive power transfer.
"UniServices is proud to see the development of technology for the wireless charging of electric vehicles become an important area for Qualcomm," said Peter Lee, chief executive officer, UniServices. "We believe Qualcomm is well positioned to make available this technology to third parties for the wireless charging of electric road vehicles, and the relationship will provide opportunities for continued research and development of this technology."

RxPATROL® Tweets Crimes, Rewards and Valuable Tips
STAMFORD, Conn., Nov. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Purdue Pharma L.P. provides another tool to fight pharmacy crime through Twitter.com/RxPATROL. Pharmacy staff, law enforcement officials and loss prevention personnel can now follow updates about pharmacy robberies, burglaries and potential threats in their area and nationwide through Twitter. The tweets provide safety and security tips for pharmacy staff that may help them better protect customers and their businesses. Followers also receive notices for reward offers that are funded through Purdue's partnership with CrimeStoppers and other local anti-crime organizations.
The RxPATROL Program tracks and analyzes reports of pharmacy crime throughout the United States and posts important crime related information on its web site: http://www.rxpatrol.org. The program also issues alerts and updates via email to registered users in the pharmacy and law enforcement communities. However, since many pharmacists do not have Internet access during work hours, but do have access to cell phones, RxPATROL® is now using Twitter to instantly deliver pharmacy crime updates to followers via their cell phones.
"Pharmacy crime is a problem in many communities," said RxPATROL Program Analyst, Captain Richard Conklin. "RxPATROL is using new communication vehicles to help pharmacy staff and law enforcement fight pharmacy crime."
Conklin monitors daily pharmacy crime reports from police departments across the United States and posts important crime related information. RxPATROL Twitter can provide followers with timely pharmacy crime information, giving them access to information that is often not reported by the media.
The tweets provide specific information on robberies and burglaries, including the exact location of the incident, description of the suspect and any pertinent information that could lead to the capture of a suspect. All information is verified with local law enforcement before it is released. All tweets direct followers to the RxPATROL database for additional information, including pictures and video of suspects.
Purdue Pharma L.P. developed RxPATROL (Rx Pattern Analysis Tracking Robberies & Other Losses) in 2003 as a collaborative effort between industry, pharmacists and law enforcement to collect, collate, analyze and disseminate information on pharmacy theft. In 2005, Purdue partnered with Crime Stoppers and affiliated local anti-crime programs throughout the country to offer rewards for information that can lead to the arrest of pharmacy robbery suspects.
Purdue Pharma L.P. and its associated U.S. companies are privately-held pharmaceutical companies known for pioneering research on persistent pain. Headquartered in Stamford, CT, Purdue is engaged in the research, development, production, and distribution of both prescription and over-the-counter medicines and hospital products.
