Winning Concepts Considered for SciVerse Applications

for Library Idea Challenge at the 2011 Charleston Conference in Charleston,
SC. The international competition encouraged librarians and information
professionals to conceptualize solutions to the challenges that they and

Following the submission period (May 13 to September 2, 2011), an
international panel of judges selected 10 app concepts as finalists. The
community was invited to comment on the finalists and vote for their
favorite idea. Two grand-prize winners were selected - one by the panel of
judges and one by community vote:
Judge's Choice Grand Prize: Journals/Conferences @ Your Fingertips

National University of Singapore, would identify the top 20 journal or
conference titles relating to the user's search results, ranked by number of
relevant articles, and deliver RSS feeds with table of contents for these

proposed by Andrea Szwajcer, a librarian at the University of Manitoba,
Canada, would enable users to customize a journal table of contents
notification service with full-text viewing and sharing of articles in a
clean, easy-to-read format.

respond to and deal with appropriately. Scores are recorded as the trainee

As well as enabling trainees to experience extremely rare faults in the
simulation, turning the traditional training material into an immersive
serious game has also improved the level of engagement from its users and
therefore improved the overall impact of the training.

Diebold Advances Fight Against ATM Card Skimming With Theft-Prevention Technology
New solutions designed to protect consumer information by obstructing ATM data theft devices

NORTH CANTON, Ohio, Nov. 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- While criminals once targeted financial institutions for their currency, today's advanced technologies have made consumer data a far more desirable payoff. In its continuous effort to remain vigilant in the fight against theft at the automated teller machine (ATM), Diebold, Incorporated (NYSE: DBD) is introducing a re-engineered bezel and the Opteva® BezelSentry(SM) Service to not only detect skimming activity, but to help prevent it.
The company has re-engineered its Opteva ATM hardware to support anti-skimming efforts with a new design for the bezel - the portion of the ATM containing the card slot and the surrounding area. The re-engineered bezel incorporates geometric fascia alterations, making it more difficult for perpetrators to attach a skimmer to its surface and is designed to eliminate the market inventory of card skimmers. The re-engineered bezel helps protect the integrity of the bezel during removal attacks and features a removal switch that will send an alarm to the alarm system notifying the financial institution of any attempt to remove the bezel.
In addition to the re-engineered card-reader bezel, Diebold is now offering the industry's first interchangeable bezel service. Similar to a subscription service, the Opteva BezelSentry Service helps financial institutions stay one step ahead of would-be perpetrators by delivering pre-scheduled or emergency bezel changes to an individual ATM or an entire fleet.

The bezel upgrades are available across the global market for all motorized and dip card reader ATMs.

Simulation Prepares Families of Region's One Million Veterans for Post-Deployment Life Challenges

Recent research suggests that, among veterans aged 18-29, rates of suicide are lower for those using VA health care services compared to those who do not, translating to approximately 250 lives saved per year.
