Fulton Innovation Partners with Electri-Cable Assemblies to Announce Wireless Power Integration in New Power Base
ECA's Wireless Villa(TM) Brings Wireless and Traditional Power Capabilities to a Variety of Surfaces
ADA, Mich., Nov. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Fulton Innovation (http://www.fultoninnovation.com), the creator and exclusive licensor of eCoupled(TM) intelligent wireless power (http://www.ecoupled.com), today announced that partner, ECA (http://www.electri-cable.com), has launched the Wireless Villa(TM), with eCoupled wireless power technology, allowing businesses and consumers to easily retrofit any surface with both power options.
Using Leggett and Platt's Helios(TM) transmitters for the technology component, Wireless Villa marries ECA's traditional Villa power base with a new integrated wireless power pad to accommodate the needs of both wireless charging and electronic devices that are not yet wireless-enabled. The Qi-certified wireless power pad is suitable for use with all low-powered Qi devices, including any of the seven Qi-enabled phones that are now available from Verizon Wireless. The power base can be integrated into a variety of work surfaces, including conference tables, desks, and countertops to provide the convenience of wireless power in a variety of environments from the home to the office.
"We are excited to be working closely with ECA to make wireless power more accessible and convenient through the integration of our Qi-compliant technology in ECA's power unit designs," said Dave Baarman, Director of Advanced Technologies at Fulton Innovation. "Only a few months ago, at NeoCon 2011, our partnership produced a prototype of how we could make wireless power technology more widely accessible for consumers. Today, we continue to push the boundaries of what can be done with wireless power and how we can continue to bring wireless power functionality to a broad range of devices, industries, and consumers."
"Reducing cord clutter is an ongoing challenge in our industry," commented Russell Hayden, President of ECA. "The combination of our Villa product and the Qi-certified transmitters powered by eCoupled technology provides a solution to meet the needs of our customers and we are excited to lead the charge into this wire-free area."
Wireless Villa kits are now available in configurations with and without data and come in several finish options. They can be purchased through ECA's website: www.electri-cable.com.

Koinonia Homes to Use College of Direct Support Curriculum and Elsevier Performance Manager Tools
ATLANTA, November 2, 2011/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
The College of Direct Support [http://info.collegeofdirectsupport.com ]
(CDS), an internet-based curriculum for Direct Support Professionals (DSPs)
managed in partnership by Elsevier / MC Strategies and the University of
Minnesota's Research and Training Center, announced that Koinonia Homes Inc.
[http://www.koinoniahomes.org ] will use the CDS's online curriculum and
Elsevier Performance Manager (EPM) for staff training, development, and
performance management. Koinonia is a private provider of services to people
with intellectual and developmental disabilities, providing long-term care
services to individuals living in 21 group homes, 51 supported living sites
and three host homes. In addition to residential services, The Center at
Koinonia serves day support, vocational, and career needs.
"We are very excited about offering this curriculum to our DSPs and
giving them the tools and experience they need to provide quality supports
to the individuals we serve," said Jason Umstot, Vice President of Programs
and Organizational Learning at Koinonia. "We believe that by utilizing CDS
in a blended approach with our classroom and compliance training that some
of our classroom training will be reduced and our staff will have a more
hands-on, visual learning experience without compromising the lesson
objectives."
Koinonia will utilize all of the tools offered by the Core Performance
configuration of EPM to track training and manage performance at Koinonia.
Elsevier Performance Manager is an easy-to-use, online learning and
performance management solution offering tools to streamline communication,
as well as identify, track, and resolve issues with staff education,
performance, and competency. The tools can help staff improve day-to-day
tasks, help optimize safety, and encourage innovation and collaboration. EPM
offers enhanced performance assessment and tracking, goal management, record
keeping, and reporting features. It standardizes competencies allowing an
agency to conduct peer reviews, and establish development action plans for
career growth and personal improvement.
"Koinonia was looking for a web-based evaluation and tracking system to
use along with its training, and they found that Elsevier's solutions
matched its needs at a reasonable cost," said Jim Hicks, Senior Vice
President, CDS. "Most everything Koinonia does involves technology, so
having a single solution for its education and performance tracking made a
lot of sense to them."
Koinonia will be using the CDS curriculum for its compliance training,
new employee orientation process, and as an additional resource to educate
staff. Koinonia intends to use all of the tools within the EPM's Core
Performance configuration to track and improve staff performance and augment
communications in its move toward implementing a career lattice.

Chicago Startup Creates "Smart Games" for Smart Brands
CHICAGO, Nov. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Chicago tech startup Central Street Games (http://www.CentralStreetGames.com) launched earlier this year and is already starting to get its share of the $23 billion dollar sales-promotion market. Central Street Games creates online mobile games that entice players to buy a company's products. The startup is developing dozens of games for major brands and capitalizing on the growing influence of smartphones and mobile communications.
Financed and headed by Andy McKenna, former Illinois GOP Party chairman and former gubernatorial and U.S. senatorial candidate, Central Street Games unveiled it's first game "Minelab: Epic Find," in September. The game was created for Minelab, Inc. (http://www.minelab.com). The Downers Grove based company is the world leader in providing technology for humanitarian demining and consumer metal detecting.
The metal detecting, adventure game is available for free on the Apple marketplace. Successful players can win discounts on Minelab products and even an ounce of gold. "Minelab: Epic Find" allows players to experience the adventure of a hunt as they travel the world searching for precious finds. To succeed they need to learn how to best use Minelab technology in simulated terrains.
"Hundreds of millions of people play mobile games everyday. They can be powerful marketing tools because they deliver experience which builds consumer understanding," says Andy McKenna, president of Central Street Games.
Industry studies forecast that smartphones will be the majority of mobile phones in the United State's by the end of 2011. Smartphone users spend nearly an hour each day, on average, interacting with mobile apps and websites, and four of the top 10 downloaded apps are games, according to Nielsen.
"The market has proven that casual mobile games are this decade's new frontier. If social networking was about communicating, mobile gaming is about engagement," says Mike Rhodes, Central Street Games technology development director. "Marketers are paying attention, and they should be, to this space."
"A mobile game was a perfect fit to our marketing approach. It addresses our biggest challenges which are to introduce consumers to the adventure of metal detecting and to demonstrate to those interested why Minelab has the experience and technology to be considered their first choice when selecting a detector," says Gary Schafer general mange and vice president of Minelab Americas. "Minelab: Epic Find puts a taste of the metal detecting experience right in the hand of our target market."

BBH's Brand Invention Company ZAG Announces Revolutionary Music Software Product
NEW YORK, Nov. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH) and their brand invention business ZAG today announced the launch of Playground Sessions - a multi-million dollar initiative that changes the way people learn to play musical instruments. Playground Sessions is groundbreaking, downloadable learning software that revolutionizes the traditional piano lesson by incorporating gaming, pop music and social networking elements.
"Playground Sessions is essentially Rosetta Stone meets Guitar Hero," said Chris Vance, Managing Director of ZAG US, a brand invention company that's a fully owned subsidiary of BBH, an award-winning global creative company. "Starting with the keyboard, our technology merges learning and gaming in a way that has never been done. The resulting software makes learning more fun, engaging and in touch with what works best in this day and age. And by giving the user feedback that guides future learning, Playground Sessions takes music education to the next level."
ZAG's model of creating intellectual property and products within the creative machine that will make it a success, is a radical change for agencies and has far-reaching implications. "This is an exciting time for BBH and ZAG," said BBH NY CEO Greg Andersen. "Playground Sessions is a carefully thought out product innovation targeting a void in the music landscape."
Musicians, teachers and gaming experts were brought together to formulate the 'Play to Learn Methodology,' allowing anyone to learn the fundamentals of piano playing through popular top 40 songs such as 'Halo,' 'Hey Soul Sister,' 'I'll be there,' and 'Apologize,' and elements of gaming like scoring, badges, progress visualization and the ability to share with and challenge friends.
BBH/ZAG partnered with YouTube piano sensation David Sides (158mmviews) and Rain, a leading digital creative software agency, to bring Playground Sessions to life. Sides created one-of-a-kind musical arrangements and leads users through video tutorials covering music theory, in addition to a variety of songs targeting different ability levels including rookie, intermediate and advanced. The lessons encompass four areas of music learning including keyboard pattern recognition, staff notation literacy, rhythmic competency and playing by ear.
"I am thrilled to be part of Playground Sessions and share my love of piano playing with the rest of the world," Sides said. "I want to inspire a new generation and those who gave up on lessons when they were kids."
Bringing extensive expertise in customized software development and in online digital sheet music, Utah-based Rain built the downloadable software application. Unlike other music gaming sold on store shelves, Rain President and CEO Andrew Howlett said he was attracted to the partnership with BBH/ZAG because Playground Sessions is a Web tool that is easily updated and upgraded.
"I was interested in the opportunity to partner our world class custom software skills with world class creative talent found at BBH. Add in a unique group like ZAG with hands on experience actually bringing products to market and you've got something special," Howlett said. Keeping The Blues Alive 501(c) seeks to promote Blues music through regularly scheduled school assemblies, and provide funding and educational scholarships for blues based music programs
Bonamassa is a torchbearer for the foundation, helping to create awareness about the blues while educating and empowering young people
DEERFIELD, Fla., Nov. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Award-winning blues-rock artist, guitar hero and singer-songwriter Joe Bonamassa will host a Keeping The Blues Alive session in Albany, NY at the Palace Theatre on Wednesday, November 9. Keeping The Blues Alive 501(c) isa nonprofit organization founded by Bonamassa aimed at promoting and preserving the heritage of blues music. Through regularly scheduled events, Keeping The Blues Alive will help to create awareness about the blues and its impact on our culture, while educating and empowering the next generation of youth. Bonamassa will donate his time throughout select cities on his U.S. tour to an hour long, educational, entertaining, and inspiring lecture for students aged 13-21. As Keeping The Blues Alive expands, its goal will include providing funding for music and educational programs. It also seeks to provide televised exposure of blues music to replace the loss of music education in schools. If you are unfamiliar with Joe's music, enjoy this free download of his recent hit single, "Dust Bowl" http://bitly.com/dustbowldownload.
Bonamassa's hour-long program is designed for students aged 13 - 21. During the events, he plays live, discusses the origins of blues music and his life as a musician, offers guitar technique and emphasizes the blues' relevance to contemporary music. He links it to modern blues idioms as well as connecting it to rock 'n roll, hip-hop and other genres, often featuring current and contemporary interpretations of traditional American blues songs. All of this is achieved by instilling a message that through perseverance, hard work, and dedication, one can achieve the dreams they desire.
"Securing the future of blues music, and helping its legacy as an original American art form live on, is something to which I am deeply committed. In introducing blues to a younger generation, and hopefully inspiring others to support it and play it, my hope is that the music will remain a living, breathing tradition carried forth by new practitioners all the time," said Bonamassa.
Keeping The Blues Alive works with tour markets in advance of Bonamassa's shows to reach out to local schools and communities for participation and support. All Keeping The Blues Alive events are held at the same venue location as Bonamassa's show and are free to students and faculty. As the organization grows, it hopes to contribute further, providing funding and educational scholarships for blues-based music programs throughout the country.

The 12-bit DAC3162 and 10-bit DAC3152 are the smallest, least-expensive and lowest-power devices in their class and were designed for wideband transmit systems, such as wireless base stations, software defined radio, point-to-point microwave, e-band radio and portable test equipment. For more information and to order samples of these new data converters, visit http://www.ti.com/dac3162-pr.
Key features and benefits:
-- Lowest power consumption by at least 30 percent extends the battery life
of portable devices. At 500 MSPS, the DAC3162 uses only 135 mW per
channel with 20 mA output current and 67 mW per channel with 2-mA output
current.
-- Small 7-mm x 7-mm QFN package cuts board space requirements by 50
percent compared to the next smallest dual, 500-MSPS DAC solution.
-- Pin-for-pin compatibility makes it easy to achieve 12- or 10-bit
resolution and cost flexibility without board or software changes.
-- Simplified interface eliminates the need for the serial peripheral
interface (SPI).
Tools, availability and pricing
Samples of the DAC3162 and DAC3152 are available today in a 48-pin, 7-mm x 7-mm QFN package. Production quantities are expected in November 2011. 1,000-unit pricing will start at $12.60 for the DAC3162 and $9.15 for the DAC3152.
TI also offers evaluation modules (EVMs) for the DAC3162 and DAC3152, complete with a transceiver chain that includes the CDCP1803 clock buffer and TRF370333 quadrature modulator. These new EVMs are fully compatible with TI's TSW3100 pattern generator module for rapid evaluation. The DAC3162EVM and DAC3152EVM are available now, priced at $199.
An IBIS model is also available.

LG Electronics Expands Power of Brand Advertising with Interactive Smart TV Solution
LG Advertising Platform, Powered by YuMe's Advertising Technology and Sales, Offers Comprehensive, Engaging Option for Developers and Advertisers
ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., Nov. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Already a leader in Smart TV products, LG Electronics has expanded its offerings for television application developers, content distributors and advertisers with the world's first integrated advertising platform for Smart TV applications. The company's complete ad solution includes in-app advertising support incorporated into LG's app development SDK, management and optimization of the publisher's ad inventory, and ad monetization through LG's alliance with YuMe.
LG Electronics developed the LG advertising platform to strengthen the ecosystem of developers, publishers and users, creating a mutually beneficial platform in which developers can maximize revenues and users receive targeted, relevant and engaging advertisements. The global, multi-device platform offers advertisers the immersive engagement of the TV's large-screen experience combined with the interactive engagement of digital media.
YuMe and LG announced today that Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., the U.S. arm of global automotive manufacturer Toyota, is the charter advertiser on LG Smart TVs.
"For advertisers like Toyota, the LG ad platform can be the third screen complementing on-line and mobile digital campaigns with an in-home shared viewing experience. As users discover the expanding content and application offerings on LG's Smart TVs and connected devices, usage is growing rapidly which will provide advertisers with the audience and reach for both broad and targeted campaigns," said Sam Chang, general manager of LG's Smart TV Innovation Development Group based in San Jose.
"Toyota customers are watching video online, on their mobile phones and on TV, and we are excited to be able to reach this previously unreachable audience on Smart TVs," said Dionne Colvin, national marketing media manager, Toyota. "At Toyota, we pride ourselves on our innovative approach to advertising, and as media consumption habits change, we see a real opportunity to further engage consumers through YuMe and LG."
Publishers will be able to make use of the accessible, real-time reporting system and a host of other features. The LG ad platform, powered by YuMe's ACE Relevance Engine, is a turnkey solution for publishers, which manages publisher ad inventory to optimize ad CPMs and supports a variety of ad sales models including YuMe's Connected Audience Network. Because the LG ad platform is integrated into LG Smart TV HDTVs, Blu-ray Disc(TM) players, Smart TV Upgraders and other LG Smart TV platforms, advertisers can run their campaigns on these devices as well as other connected CE devices participating in YuMe's Connected Audience Network.
"The LG ad platform will enable several common digital ad formats such as interactive display banners, in-banner video and in-stream video as well as some new ad units such as click to sponsored applications and search related ad units," Chang said. "This combination of LG's innovative Magic Motion remote control allowing for point and click control of applications and YuMe's advertising technology opens the way for developers, publishers and content owners to develop new content and ad models on one of TV's most intuitive systems."
LG and YuMe will be running pilot ad campaigns in the United States with several leading advertisers starting in November with broader advertiser participation planned for the spring of 2012.

BURBANK, Calif., Nov. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Six weeks ago, Queen drummer Roger Taylor announced the launch of a North American talent search looking for top-tier players to star in "The Queen Extravaganza" tour, an electrifying road show that will celebrate the band's music and legacy. A plethora of vocalists, guitarists, drummers, bassists and keyboard players auditioned online at queenextravaganza.com, submitting video footage of themselves performing one of four classic Queen songs: "Killer Queen," "Somebody To Love," "Seven Seas of Rhye" and "I Want To Break Free." With one week of open auditions remaining, Taylor continues to pour through the submissions and is preparing for the November 9th announcement of the lucky semi-finalists.
"What an amazing storehouse of talent we have unlocked," said Taylor. "The standard is mind blowingly high, it's really a thrill getting to discover some of them, keep them coming!"
The buzz surrounding "The Queen Extravaganza" tour has sparked worldwide interest with video submissions generating more than 6.4 million views to date. Television host Ellen DeGeneres was so impressed with the level of talent, that she invited one hopeful to perform his audition on her show. The contestant, Nashville's Marc Martel, went on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on October 3rd and gave a stunning rendition of Queen's "Somebody To Love." Fans around the country felt the same way, awarding Martel the MTV O Award last night for Best Fan Cover. His performance from The Ellen DeGeneres Show can be viewed here: http://ellen.warnerbros.com/2011/10/marc_martel_performs_somebody_to_love_1003.php
Unlike Round One, in which vocalists and musicians were allowed to audition by performing one of four Queen songs, Round Two will see each semi-finalist assigned a specific track.
* Vocalists must submit a video of themselves performing "Crazy Little Thing Called Love."
* Drummers must perform "One Vision."
* Guitarists must play "Keep Yourself Alive."
* Bassists must audition to "Another One Bites The Dust."
* Keyboardists must perform "Bohemian Rhapsody."
The semi-finalists will have between November 9 and 13 to submit their auditions. In another twist, Round Two auditions will be judged by the public. Between November 14th and 28th, fans can vote for their favorites at http://www.queenextravaganza.com , casting one vote per category. The top vote-getters will advance to the Final Round. Those finalists will be flown into Los Angeles in early December, where they will perform live for Taylor and a panel of judges. More information on the final auditions to be announced shortly.
Launching in 2012, "The Queen Extravaganza" tour will feature three vocalists and a five-piece band and will be booked by powerhouse agency CAA. Taylor is fully hands-on, taking the role of producer and music director.
As the centerpiece in the 40th anniversary celebration, Queen's entire 15-album studio catalog is being reissued in a series of deluxe editions. Every note is being tweaked, every piece of artwork is being cleaned, freshened up and resourced, wherever necessary, with the legendary Bob Ludwig doing the remastering, working from the original source material. The first installment, comprised of the first five LPs (QUEEN, QUEEN II, SHEER HEART ATTACK, A NIGHT AT THE OPERA, A DAY AT THE RACES) was released May 17, the second installment (NEWS OF THE WORLD, JAZZ, THE GAME, FLASH GORDON, HOT SPACE) was released on September 13 and the final deluxe box set installment (THE WORKS, A KIND OF MAGIC, THE MIRACLE, INNUENDO, MADE IN HEAVEN) is available on amazon.com on November 1.

Another 3 White Labels to the SpotOption Portfolio
NICOSIA, Cyprus, November 2, 2011/PRNewswire/ --
Leading Binary Options Platform Providers, SpotOption Ltd., announce
partnership with WinOptions, Binoa, and OBOption
Online operators who were able to predict the potential in the Binary
Options industry are now enjoying the rewards of a profitable and growing
business. However, as attractive as the binary options model is, an operator
needs to partner with the right platform provider in order to succeed in the
business. SpotOption Ltd [http://www.spotoption.com ]. has proven success
through the growing success of their brands, and those operators who had
used other platform providers have realized that SpotOption is that provider
with the technology and expertise necessary in order to thrive in the
business.
Amongst those are WinOptions [http://www.winoption.com ], OBOptions
[http://www.oboptions.com ], and Binoa [http://www.binoa.com ], who have
most recently converted into SpotOption labels. This move will allow them to
benefit from SpotOption's unrivaled Risk Management solution, first class
service, and unique profit maximizing features, such as Option Builder, One
Touch, ProTrader, 60 Seconds, and of course, the iPhone application as well.
Additionally, as SpotOption is solely a B2B operation, and does not own a
label of its own, the labels do not have to compete with their providers as
has become acceptable in the industry.
WinOptions, OBOptions, and Binoa, along with the 60 other labels, cover
the world-wide market, and bring more awareness and demand for binary
options. When asked how SpotOption has practically become the only choice
for providing Binary Options platforms, Pini Peter (founder of SpotOption)
responds, "I think the fact that we've concentrated solely on providing the
perfect, complete B2B solution for Binary Options, and have not strayed from
Binary Options, is what has made our product unmatchable. Not spreading
yourself thin is imperative in the online business, and focusing on one
industry, and providing the latest trends and products for that one
industry, is how you become a world-wide name." When asked about labels
moving from the competition to SpotOption, Peter replies, "I don't think too
much about the competition. I just remember that our labels are our partners
and first priority, and our success depends on their success. I guess that
formula is what has brought us this far."

Activision's NASCAR® Unleashed(TM) Breaks Free From the Oval and Hits the Streets Today
Arcade Racing Action for NASCAR Fans of All Ages
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Nov. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Get ready to experience blindingly fast arcade speed and over-the-top racing action as Activision Publishing, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI), expands on the success of the NASCAR videogame franchise with NASCAR® Unleashed. Now available for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, the Wii(TM) from Nintendo and Nintendo 3DS(TM), NASCAR Unleashed has players breaking out of the oval tracks and onto the uneven pavement of city streets, idyllic countryside roads, pristine beachfront highways and more!
NASCAR Unleashed features 15 of NASCAR's biggest names, including NASCAR Sprint Cup series drivers Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Jeff Gordon, and Joey Logano. Players will take the wheel of growling, turbo-charged racing machines that will unleash their stock car fury on defenseless city streets. Familiar NASCAR tracks just waiting to be ripped apart include: Daytona International Speedway®, Chicagoland Speedway®, Homestead-Miami Speedway(SM), Martinsville Speedway® and Talladega Superspeedway®. Lifelong NASCAR fans and those new to the sport will enjoy careening around the tracks before rocketing away from the grandstands to explore the wide open world, NASCAR style.
The gameplay features forgiving handling and virtually no rules, with the key being bashing and smashing opponents out of the way to earn the trophy. Drafting and power sliding around turns will be the most useful tools in a player's arsenal; but with loose mechanics they should be vigilant for cars flying overhead in wicked Hollywood style crashes. The wild "Rival" feature turns up the heat: players must compete not only with the other racers but with a given "Rival" who is gunning to knock them out of the lead and to the back of the pack. Distinct game modes available for play include single player championship, time trial challenges, quick races and action-packed split screen multiplayer.
NASCAR Unleashed is now available on Xbox 360, PlayStation®3 system, Wii and the Nintendo 3DS for $39.99 MSP. The game is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB. NASCAR Unleashed will also be featured in the Battle of the NASCAR Kids event taking place the weekend of November 18 at the Sprint Cup Championship race in Homestead-Miami. Broadcom's New EPON OLT System-On-Chip Drastically Reduces System Cost and Power by Up to 50%
Twice the Density and Unparalleled Integration Enables Next Gen Broadband Services
IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
News Highlights:
-- Enables efficient, low-cost delivery of high speed broadband services on
a single fiber infrastructure
-- Integration of seven ASSPs reduces system cost and power per port by up
to 50 percent
-- Twice the density of Broadcom TK3723 -- industry's most popular EPON OLT
system-on-a-chip (SoC)
Broadcom Corporation (NASDAQ: BRCM), a global innovation leader in semiconductor solutions for wired and wireless communications, today announced the BCM55524 Quad Port Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) Optical Line Terminal (OLT). With unparalleled integration, the BCM55524 SoC combines the functionality of up to seven application-specific standard parts (ASSPs) and eliminates seven on-board memory devices, dramatically reducing system costs by up to 50 percent. Optimized to meet the bandwidth, scalability, and performance demands of next-generation broadband access networks serving both business and residential subscribers, the BCM55524 delivers twice the density and half the power per port of its predecessor, the TK3723, the world's most widely adopted EPON OLT SoC. Visit http://go.broadcom.com/ytL to learn more.
As the popularity of social networking, video on demand (VoD), and high bandwidth business services continue to climb, subscriber demand for higher-speed access networks is growing. Competitive pressures are upping the broadband ante -- driving Telco and cable providers to develop solutions that leverage existing networks and subscriber base to create profitable and differentiated services. Governments worldwide are making broadband a strategic initiative, investing in fiber technologies such as fiber to the home/business (FTTx). Analysts predict the number of worldwide FTTx subscribers to reach nearly one third of global wireline broadband subscriptions by 2016, driven largely by FTTx deployments in Asia(1).
Best in Class EPON and Carrier Ethernet Switching in a Total Solution
The BCM55524 quad OLT is designed to work in tandem with Broadcom's award-winning StrataXGS® aggregation switch series, combining feature-rich EPON and proven Carrier Ethernet performance in an end-to-end solution that meets the scalability, reliability, cost, and advanced feature set requirements of next generation FTTx deployments. Backward compatibility with the TK3723 OLT allows system designers to leverage stable OLT software that has undergone extensive carrier qualification and interoperability (IOP) testing, thus providing a risk-free migration path for OEMs to higher density 16-port line card designs, while significantly reducing time-to-market and development costs.
Market Drivers
-- Exponential growth in bandwidth demand driving FTTx deployments(1)
-- Reduction in copper infrastructure and transition to fiber(1)
-- With >25 percent CAGR by 2016, FTTx represents the fast growing
broadband technology(1)
-- 50 percent of all wireline broadband subscribers in Asia will be FTTx by
2016(1)
-- Worldwide IP traffic per capita will reach 15GB in 2015 (from 3GB in
2010) (2)
Key Features:
-- Fully backward software compatible with TK3723 and supports Broadcom's
DOCSIS® Mediation Layer
-- Integration of up to seven ASSPs and reduction of up to seven memory
devices with transition to DDR-3
-- Four IEEE 802.3ah-compliant EPON MACs with Broadcom Turbo-EPON(TM)
support
-- Integration of four 1.25 Gbps/2.5 Gbps Burst-mode SerDes and four
NNI-side SGMII SerDes
-- IPTV-ready supporting IP Multicast protocols with IPv4 and IPv6 support

"Competition between Service Providers and Cable Operators continues to increase as they seek new technologies to deliver high bandwidth quality services to consumers. At the same time, they must significantly limit CAPEX and OPEX expenditures. The BCM55524 provides the best balance of low cost, density, scalability, and quality of service to enable next generation EPON FTTx deployments."
Julie Kunstler, Principal Analyst, Ovum
"FTTx is the growth story in wireline broadband. We expect EPON OLT shipments to remain strong as massive markets, such as China, move to fiber infrastructure. There is enormous pressure on the supply chain to reduce costs as critical FTTx chips are delivered into low-cost markets, including China, Eastern Europe and South/Central America. Asia Pacific, particularly China, will continue to dominate consumption of worldwide OLT chips."

Bocada First to Provide Insight into Data Protection Operations of Virtual Environments
Bocada Vision uses DPSM model to detail performance of VMs in backup, recovery settings
KIRKLAND, Wash., Nov. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Bocada Inc., the world's leading provider of data protection management software and the creator of the Data Protection Service Management (DPSM) model, today announced another industry first -- Bocada Vision, the first and only solution on the market that provides insight into the data protection operations of virtual environments. From a single pane of glass, users will be able to monitor backup methods, performance, success and failures, problem and resource management, virtual environment recovery, configuration and storage utilization reports and errors to help minimize the complexity that virtualization adds to backup and recovery operations.
Bocada Vision, groundbreaking software technology, addresses issues of VM recoverability by providing insight into whether backups are successful and where recovery points are. It tells users what resources are being used to protect VMs and whether they are optimized while detailing the performance impact of protecting VMs. A standalone solution for managing data protection in virtual environments, Bocada Vision can also be fully integrated with Bocada Prism to provide total physical and virtual protection of a user's entire backup infrastructure.
Bocada has teamed with leading virtualization companies Quest, Veeam and VMware to integrate Vision into their product offerings and enable support for users. Bocada Vision is integrated with VMware vCenter and supports vDataRecovery. Vision also supports Quest vRanger Pro, Veeam Backup & Replication and Symantec NBU 7.1, with plans to add additional support for applications with enhanced virtual backup support.
"Data protection of virtual environments introduces complexities not seen when performing physical backups, and that becomes a barrier to adoption of VMs in the data center," said Nancy Hurley, Bocada CEO. "Vision is the industry's first and only solution to provide insight into the data protection operations of virtual environments helping organizations overcome concerns regarding virtual backups and whether mission-critical data will be recoverable."
In a recent Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG) survey(1) sponsored by Bocada, 60 percent of respondents rated backup and recovery processes for virtual servers as a "Top 5" data protection challenge. Validating recoverability, gaining visibility into capacity use, and understanding performance impacts on applications/workloads in the virtual environment when running backups were cited as top concerns.
"Bocada continues to bring data protection management more in line with the ever-changing requirements of business' most-challenging information environments," said Lauren Whitehouse, Senior Analyst at ESG. "With its new offering, Bocada is bridging the gap between virtual and physical servers, and addressing the challenges associated with backup and recovery compliance in virtualized environments. Bocada Vision brings tremendous value to organizations looking to ensure that the integrity of their data remains intact and that information remains accessible no matter where it resides within the corporate infrastructure."
Bocada Vision is available as a standalone module within Bocada Prism, a service management application that was purpose built to help organizations move through the DPSM model, a multi-phase set of best practices to ensure cost-effective delivery of data protection services to customers. Bocada leveraged years of customer experiences to create a workflow-driven, intelligent analysis solution with built in SLA impact analysis, change tracking, trend analysis and a searchable knowledge base to ensure organizations can meet business goals and improve operational efficiencies. When used over an extended period of time, Prism provides a historical overview of the backup environment to see if it is operating the way it should be. This information is vital in addressing whether changes need to be made, the architecture needs updating, and what data is readily available, as well as to forecast future growth.
Bocada Vision will be generally available shortly with pricing established by VM instance. For more information about Bocada Vision, visit http://www.bocada.com/. New Norton Tablet Security Protects Against Loss, Theft and Online Threats
Norton Mobile Security update includes new "Scream" feature and web-based antitheft capabilities
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Nov. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Norton by Symantec (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced the availability of Norton Tablet Security and new updates for Norton Mobile Security, including a new "Scream" feature that helps users find a lost or stolen phone quickly. Both offerings for the Android platform further support the Norton Everywhere initiative, which extends Norton's security expertise and technologies to protect consumers everywhere they go, regardless of device or platform.
"With today's smartphones, people stand to risk losing much more than contact information when a device is lost or stolen - it's access to their email, social networking sites, financial institutions or even exposing personal photos or videos, as many celebrities have," said Dave Cole, vice president, mobile products, Norton. "Given these risks, consumers are increasingly motivated to protect their mobile lives. Norton Tablet Security and Norton Mobile Security provide protection from physical and online threats from one of the most trusted brands in security."
Norton Tablet Security
Available through retail partners, this new offering is designed specifically for Android tablets to protect the device, as well as the user's privacy and important data, against loss, theft, viruses, and other threats through the following features:
-- Web-based Anti-Theft - By logging in through a web browser, users can
access anti-theft features that include the ability to remotely lock a
lost or stolen device, preventing information from being stolen. Users
can also add a default or custom "device lost" message to the lock
screen. A lost or stolen tablet can also be located on a map, which
shows the device's most recent locations. For those who want to see who
may have their device, the "Sneak Peek" feature remotely takes a photo
using the front-facing tablet camera and uploads the picture to the
anti-theft site that stores and displays the most recent pictures.
-- Anti-Malware - Automatically scans all the apps and app updates
downloaded to the mobile device and SD card for threats.
-- Web Protection - Norton Safe Web technology alerts on fraudulent and
malicious websites, protecting the device from content accessed or
downloaded over mobile networks and Wi-Fi connections, without slowdowns
or interruptions.
Norton Mobile Security
Also available through retail partners today, this updated mobile offering now includes web-based anti-theft functions and a "Scream" locator feature that lets users send a text to their missing phone to remotely activate an alarm, helping them locate their device. Users who have already purchased a version of Norton Mobile Security will receive these new feature updates through their existing product subscription:
-- SMS-Based Antitheft features - In addition to the "Scream" locator
feature, users can remotely locate, lock and wipe their device through
SMS commands. Users can also create a buddy list, specifying trusted
contacts (like friends or family) who can send an unlock code through
their phone.
-- Web-Based Antitheft features: Users can remotely locate and locate their
device through the antitheft.norton.com web portal. A Web-based feature,
"Lost Notice," allows users to display a customizable message to anyone
who finds the missing device so the owner can make arrangements to get
it back. Norton Mobile Security also includes a "Sneak Peek" feature
that remotely takes a photo using the front-facing camera and uploads
the picture to the anti-theft site.
-- Privacy features - Protects personal information from phishing scams and
allows users to avoid unwanted communications. Users can browse safely
while Norton Safe Web technology alerts on fraudulent and malicious
websites, protecting the device from content accessed or downloaded over
mobile networks and Wi-Fi connections, without slowdowns or
interruptions. Call and text blocker also let users block calls and text
messages from specific people or phone numbers.

downloaded to the mobile device and SD card for threats.
