Noveda Technologies and ARAMARK Team Up to Increase Energy Awareness on Higher Education Campuses
Companies partner to develop and implement energy and water management solutions that drive sustainable change
BRANCHBURG, N.J., Oct. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Noveda Technologies, the leader in web-based, real-time energy and water management systems, and ARAMARK, a world leader in providing professional facilities management services, today announced a strategic partnership to develop solutions for managing energy and water consumption in real-time. This partnership is designed to deliver programs that drive and sustain behavioral change to reduce waste and optimize consumption of electricity, natural gas and water in Higher Education facilities managed by ARAMARK across North America.
"We are honored and very excited to partner with ARAMARK as they seek innovative solutions to drive energy and water conservation by utilizing real-time monitoring and community participation," said Govi Rao, president and CEO of Noveda Technologies. "ARAMARK's longstanding presence in facilities management provides them with a thorough understanding of energy and water consumption, and we look forward to collaborating with them to help reach their customers' conservation and sustainability goals."
As part of the partnership, Noveda will provide ARAMARK's clients with data acquisition hardware and software solutions, along with an operations portal that will allow facility managers to view and monitor energy and water usage at multiple campus buildings from one system. In addition to enabling energy and water monitoring, Noveda will provide interactive and real-time educational dashboards and kiosk displays to track energy and water use, as well as to encourage energy saving competitions on the campuses ARAMARK serves.
According to the EPA, educational institutions in the US spend nearly $14 billion annually on energy. Additionally, colleges and universities can reduce energy bills by 30 percent or more and sustain savings by employing a variety of measures. One such measure, highlighted in a recent ARAMARK survey of higher education students, is education and engagement programs that involve the campus community in consumption reduction and behavior change. ARAMARK has successfully implemented several campus education and awareness programs that engaged students in reducing waste and consumption of resources.
"ARAMARK is committed to bringing innovative solutions to our partner clients that help them conserve resources and meet their sustainability goals," said Ron Mesaros, vice president of Facility Services for ARAMARK Higher Education. "This strategic alliance with Noveda will enable our facility managers to monitor and track energy consumption on our partner campuses in real-time, as well as engage and educate the entire campus community in environmental stewardship."

Amana Brand Gets Into the Swing of Things with New Top-Freezer Refrigerator
New Amana® refrigerator features reversible, contour doors that adjust to your kitchen - no remodeling required
BENTON HARBOR, Mich., Oct. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Amana brand is contouring to your life - and kitchen layout - with a new top-freezer refrigerator featuring super convenient reversible-swing doors. Whether you prefer your refrigerator to swing left or right, the new Amana® top-freezer model creates a seamless, streamlined look for your kitchen.
In addition to making it easier to customize your kitchen based on personal preferences and layout constraints, Amana brand helps you stay organized with its Quench Essentials(TM) door bin. Including room for soda cans or a single bottle of wine, the bin keeps beverages cold, secure and easy to grab. The top-freezer refrigerator also features gallon-sized door storage to accommodate gallons of milk, two-liter bottles of soda and pitchers of juice in an out-of-the-way location.
Swinging into the fall season means garden veggies can no longer be picked fresh daily, but that's no problem for this new refrigerator. It features humidity-controlled Garden Fresh(TM) crisper drawers to help maintain that just-picked flavor, which means fewer trips to the store. There's also no need to run out to the deli because someone misplaced the cheddar cheese. The new top-freezer refrigerator's deli drawer makes organization easy by keeping track of all your favorite sandwich fixin's. Turkey and swiss or ham and cheddar? You can find it tucked away in the deli drawer.
"In addition to having adjustable doors, this refrigerator is available in 19 and 21 cu. ft. models, making it great for those with space constraints," said Monica Teague, senior manager, PR and brand experience. "The top-freezer layout is also convenient for storing large dishes and leftovers, especially with our adjustable shelves."
Daily routines are stressful enough, so Amana brand is helping keep small messes from becoming big problems with Spillsaver(TM) glass shelves. These shelves help contain spills and can be adjusted to meet your storage needs. Up-front temperature controls also allow you to adjust interior temperatures without the headache of rearranging the entire fridge.
The Amana® 21 cu. ft. top-freezer model (A1RXNGFYB/A1RXNGFYW/A1RXNGFYS) is available in black, white and stainless steel, with an MSRP starting at $899. The 19 cu. ft. top-freezer model (A9RXNGFYB/A9RXNGFYW/A9RXNGFYS) is available in the same color options, starting at $799. Both models can be purchased at retailers nationwide.
Established in 1934, Amana has a history of designing innovative cooking, dish, laundry and refrigeration household appliances. With its introduction of the original countertop microwave in 1967, Amana was put on the map as a brand dedicated to bringing convenience to consumers' lives. Amana brand is part of Whirlpool Corporation the world's leading manufacturer and marketer of major home appliances, with annual sales of approximately $18 billion in 2010, 71,000 employees, and 67 manufacturing and technology research centers around the world. PT Debuts Monterey 8000, a Groundbreaking MicroTCA.4 Application-Ready Platform
Innovative 40GbE Solution Ideal for Aggregation Layer
ROCHESTER, N.Y., Oct. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- PT (NASDAQ: PTIX), a leading global supplier of advanced network communications, today announced Monterey 8000(TM) the flagship offering of Monterey MicroTCA Platforms, the company's newest family of products. PT previewed the product in June of this year by announcing the development of its platform designed in accordance with the newly ratified PICMG MicroTCA.4 specification. Monterey 8000 is the first fully integrated MTCA.4, application-ready platform to enter the market and is specifically tuned for high-performance Next-Generation network applications. PT is scheduled to ship the first Monterey 8000 in fourth quarter 2011, and is demonstrating a live platform at the ATCA Summit in San Jose, CA in two weeks.
Today's Next-Generation network architectures demand greater processing capability, more memory, and high-speed IP, yet they are faced with challenges of limited space and competitive price points. In the open-standards ecosystem, ATCA offers extreme computing power to satisfy Network Core demands, however its larger footprint inhibits flexibility. On the other hand, the original MicroTCA base design is the ideal size for Edge-based applications, but does not offer upward scalability. The Aggregation Layer, located in the space between the Core and the Edge, is left wanting for a cost-effective standards-based solution with plenty of compute performance, flexible I/O, and high-speed bandwidth. Monterey 8000, with its mid-sized, modular footprint, fills that critical void with a flexible platform specifically suited for Next Generation applications.
"PT is exploring new horizons with the creation of Monterey, a line that encompasses our wide array of MicroTCA technology;" said John Slusser, President and CEO of PT. "We leverage our thirty year history and strong base of expertise in computing systems design to introduce a platform that fills a gap in the open-standards ecosystem - a platform that sets a higher standard upon which to measure all future performance." Slusser added, "PT was a key supporter and strong advocate for the recently announced MicroTCA.4 specification, originally conceived to address stringent requirements in the physics community. Yet PT's clarity of vision and focus on designing to future needs propelled us to take additional, unprecedented leaps in power and capacity development that led to the innovative Monterey 8000 platform. It is light years ahead of any other MicroTCA platform available today, and is architected to support the demands of a decade from now."
PT designed the Monterey 8000 platform to be fully compatible with MicroTCA.4; it offers carrier-grade five-nines availability, up to twelve AMC slots with rear transition modules (RTMs), plus dual/redundant MicroTCA carrier hubs (MCHs) with RTMs. The PT development team further enhanced the architecture with the addition of two key super-set capabilities vital for a long product life cycle:
-- 40GbE - Seamless 40Gb Ethernet extension to each AMC slot supports
future data bandwidth demands,
-- 160 Watts per slot - Exclusive extended power design doubles the power
budget for each AMC slot to 160 watts, anticipating the demands of
future high-speed multi-core and special purpose processors
During the development of the MicroTCA.4 spec, it became clear the requirements are applicable to a wider range of markets outside the scientific community. In particular, the benefits of Monterey 8000 are relevant to NGN application developers in five major markets:
-- Telecom equipment manufacturers
-- Wireless equipment manufacturers
-- Military/aerospace primes
-- Commercial systems providers
-- Industrial systems providers
When ATCA was introduced in 2002, it was the only practical open-standards platform available to implement high-density devices. The intervening decade of technology brought exponential iterations of Moore's Law, changing the ecosystem landscape dramatically with evolutions such as multi-core, hyper-threaded general-purpose processors, and multi-core packet processors. Levels of high compute-density processing that were once only possible in an ATCA environment are easily performed today on the small but powerful Monterey 8000, and it is designed to support the forecasted explosion of network traffic over the next dozen years.
See a live demonstration of Monterey 8000 in PT's booth #406 at the ATCA Summit in San Jose, November 1st and 2nd.

Today's announcement also represents the successful integration of Provigent within just six months post acquisition.
As the number of mobile users, and use of multimedia services such as streaming video continues to rise, mobile operators are investing in next generation mobile backhaul networks that enable them to meet the performance and service expectations of consumers. In order to manage this massive growth in wireless traffic and evolution of 4G/LTE networks, carriers are faced with the challenge of backhauling data from the cell sites to the core network.
With enhanced radio performance and advanced networking capabilities, the BCM85620 provides radio-optimized traffic delivery, including robust clock delivery over packet transport needed for network synchronization. Coupled with 1.25Gbps throughput and 25 percent higher capacity than existing solutions, the BCM85620 enables wireless backhaul systems to support the demanding requirements of 4G/LTE networks.

Dan Charash, Senior Director & General Manager, Microwave, Broadcom Corporation "The transition to 4G and LTE networks continues to drive the need for higher capacity and packet traffic in mobile backhaul networks. With the industry's highest level of integration and Gigabit and beyond performance, the BCM85620 allows system vendors to seamlessly and cost effectively migrate existing networks to 4G/LTE. The introduction of our latest innovation within just six months of acquiring Provigent is a testament to Broadcom's ability to successfully integrate acquired technologies and rapidly introduce next generation products.".
Michael Howard, Co-founder and Principal Analyst, Carrier Networks, Infonetics "The mobile backhaul space is undergoing major changes. The growing capacity demand and the shift from voice to data services are driving mobile backhaul networks to high capacity IP/Ethernet connections. The evolution to 4G/LTE networks will require even higher capacities and more cell site connections. Microwave currently represents 55 percent of physical backhaul connections. Innovation in this space ensures that microwave will retain its prominent position as the backhaul solution of choice."

IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Kelley Blue Book's http://www.kbb.com, the leading provider of new car and used car information today announces a partnership with AutoTrader.com to provide the Trade-In Marketplace tool on kbb.com. Consumers can visit the Trade-In Marketplace on the Kelley Blue Book website to generate instant offers for their current vehicles, which can be used towards the purchase of their next vehicle or redeemed for cash. Consumers can use the instant trade-in offer, which is backed by a check from AutoTrader.com, to easily trade in or sell a car to a participating dealer. If the vehicle description provided is accurate, consumers never have to accept less for their trade-in.
Kelley Blue Book has provided consumers with reliable trade-in values on its top-rated website http://www.kbb.com since 1995 and is backed by 85 years of trust. Consumers can still use the Kelley Blue Book® Trade-In Value, which is based on millions of actual trade-in transactions from across the U.S. and verified weekly by the company's statisticians, to negotiate with a dealer, or they can take the next step and use the Trade-In Marketplace to generate an instant trade-in offer. The Trade-In Marketplace offer can then be redeemed with a participating dealer, and consumers can either use the amount toward the purchase of a new car or redeem the offer for cash.
"Kelley Blue Book has partnered with AutoTrader.com's Trade-In Marketplace to provide consumers with an easy way to trade in or sell their current vehicles," said Justin Yaros, executive vice president of Kelley Blue Book's kbb.com. "In addition to Kelley Blue Book's top-notch values, this new option provides consumers further peace of mind that they can get an actual offer online to trade in or sell their current cars quickly and easily. A Trade-In Marketplace offer is:
-- A quick and easy way to trade in or sell a vehicle to a dealer
-- An actual offer, redeemable right now, pending inspection
-- 100% backed by AutoTrader.com
-- A safe bet for consumers to have in their pockets, so they never have to
accept less
-- Based on specific elements of a car, like history, color, condition and
market demand
Here's how it works:
-- Anyone looking to trade-in or sell a car can now visit Kelley Blue
Book's kbb.com to get a free, instant trade-in offer backed by
AutoTrader.com. For details, visit http://www.kbb.com/trade-in-a-car/.
-- The seller will then provide information about the vehicle, including
its year, make and model, major factory-installed options, additional
upgrades, maintenance information and details about the car's condition,
including any major repairs or accident damage.
-- The Trade-In Marketplace from AutoTrader.com will calculate an instant
trade-in offer using historical data from hundreds of thousands of
vehicle transactions combined with up-to-the-minute supply and demand
information.
-- The seller will then print the offer certificate and take it to one of
the local dealerships listed on the certificate honoring the offer. The
dealer will verify that the information provided by the seller is
correct.
-- The seller can receive a check by redeeming the offer or can use the
amount toward the purchase of another vehicle. And that's it! The
process is fast, easy and free.
"Negotiating the value of their trade-in has long been a major pain point with consumers, and the Trade-In Marketplace helps alleviate that pain by giving them the certainty of an instant offer--backed by a check--from AutoTrader.com," said Brian Skutta, Trade-In Marketplace general manager at AutoTrader.com. "We're excited to partner with Kelley Blue Book to bring this revolutionary tool to the millions of shoppers on kbb.com."
Participating dealers in the Trade-In Marketplace network are required to honor all instant trade-in offers generated through the tool, provided that the vehicle is described accurately by the consumer.

Sabian Launches New Website with Shopatron-Enabled eCommerce Store
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif., Oct. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Innovative cymbal maker SABIAN has added eCommerce capability to its newly launched website, thanks to a partnership with global eCommerce provider Shopatron, a company specializing in eCommerce solutions for brands and manufacturers.
Now online shoppers searching for the perfect cymbal sound can complete their purchase without ever leaving the SABIAN website. It's a great addition to a website that already offers a number of online innovations--like the option to see videos on product pages, create custom cymbal setups using the SABIAN Set-Up Builder and find the perfect sound with the Band & Orchestral Sound Calculator.

That means purchases made through SABIAN's online store are transferred to a local SABIAN dealer who fulfills the order by shipping the product or hosting the customer for an in-store pickup.
"Being able to include our retailers in the online process sold us on Shopatron," says Peter Stairs, Sabian VP of Sales. "Not only does it support our retailers, but it also benefits our customers, who get the convenience of buying online but still enjoy the expertise and personal service offered by a local dealer in their area."
"eCommerce adoption in the musical instrument industry is exploding, and it's clear that a retail-integrated eCommerce model is one preferred by the industry," says Ed Stevens, Founder and CEO of Shopatron.
Shopatron has added 10 new music instrument brands so far in 2011, for a total of 50 brands supported by over 1,000 music dealers fulfilling orders. Music instrument brands on Shopatron have seen exponential sales growth, with an average 31% increase in same-store sales between Q2 2011 and Q2 2010.

Association for the Advancement of Wound Care (AAWC) Announces Agreement with Applied Computer Education Services, Inc. (ACES) to Offer "Virtual Wound(TM)," - Web-Based Education for Wound Care Medical Specialists
MALVERN, Pa., Oct. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Association for the Advancement of Wound Care (AAWC) announces the Virtual Wound(TM) - an exciting and unique online educational opportunity for AAWC members through a partnership with Applied Computer Education Services, Inc. (ACES). Grounded in best practice and evidence-based medicine, the Virtual Wound(TM) provides an unparalleled learning experience that is self-paced and interactive. The program blends traditional teaching with advances in technology. Through an interactive user interface, the program provides a basic wound assessment tool, followed by five learning modules featuring a wounded "avatar" (graphical representation of a wounded human being.) The modules embrace all aspects of adult learning with high-fidelity computer generated scenarios, photographs and real-world case presentations. The learner is able to examine and treat the injury while guided by best practices and simultaneously receiving visual feedback about the interventions and plan of care.
The availability of the Virtual Wound(TM) modules helps foster AAWC's goal to spread awareness about advanced, evidence-based wound care. The Virtual Wound(TM) is time-efficient, cost-efficient, intuitive and user-friendly. Directed questions, supplemental resources, and video lessons guide the learner through the pathophysiology, examination and interventions for specific wound etiologies. The experience mimics that of real world clinical decision-making based upon a case history and avatar presentation. As the learner interacts, examines and manages the avatar, the wound evolves providing the user with a comprehensive experience for knowledge acquisition. This allows for "successful failure" - where learners' can make mistakes without harm to real patients. Wound care medical specialists are encouraged to view the AAWC website to sample the Virtual Wound(TM) and to join AAWC for full access to the entire set of modules.
ABOUT AAWC - AAWC's mission is to be the leader in interdisciplinary wound healing and tissue preservation. As the largest, not-for-profit, multi-specialty organization in the United States dedicated to the research and clinical application of evidence-based wound care, AAWC offers membership to everyone involved in the healing of wounds, including healthcare professionals, patients, lay-caregivers, clinics/facilities, corporations, students, retirees, and advocates. Patients and their lay-caregivers may join free for life and they will receive information and updates on how AAWC is working to improve the quality of life for the millions who suffer with wounds.

Full Story:
HOPKINTON, MA--October 19, 2011--EMC Corporation (NYSE: EMC) today announced several key enhancements to the VMAXe enterprise storage system--announced in July--delivering customers with limited storage expertise and IT resources even more powerful, trusted and efficient enterprise storage. The VMAXe is now more powerful with support for more-than 1,000 drives, and is available as an all-Flash VMAXe configuration; is more trusted with a new disaster recovery software option called SRDFe; and is even more efficient with new support for 100 GB Flash and 2.5" SAS disk drives. EMC also extended its industry-leading integration with VMware, offering new VMAXe integration with VMware vSphere 5 cloud infrastructure platform. It's these type of customer-driven innovations which led customers to recognize EMC as the #1 storage choice for Microsoft, Oracle and other mission critical environments in a recent survey by IDC(1).
Technology Highlights:
-- More Powerful: The VMAXe delivers even more scale supporting more-than
1,000-drives in a fully-populated VMAXe array--operating with a choice
of either 96 GB or 128 GB of cache. The VMAXe is also now available as
an all-Flash configuration (also available with VMAX), which is ideal
for customers requiring the lowest response time, highest I/Os per
second, and most energy-efficient systems in their virtual data center.
-- More Trusted: The new SRDFe for VMAXe is a version of EMC's SRDF that is
sized specifically for VMAXe environments--supporting replication for up
to 8,000 Symmetrix devices, which can include a mix of those in
synchronous or asynchronous, and adaptive copy modes. In addition to the
already available EMC RecoverPoint on VMAXe, customers now have more
options in deploying either of these industry-leading disaster recovery
solutions. With both SRDFe and RecoverPoint supported on VMAXe,
customers now have multiple ways to integrate with VMware's vCenter Site
Recovery Manager 5.
-- More Efficient: New VMAXe support for VMware vCenter(TM) Server
plug-ins, enabling coordination between the VMware platform and either
VMAXe or VMAX,® provides built-in storage insight in the VMware
environment. This supports intelligent virtual machine storage
provisioning, bolsters storage troubleshooting, and enables the VMware
Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) solution related use cases for
storage. This bi-directional "server-to-storage" and "storage-to-server"
capability is unique to EMC. Additionally, customers now have the
industry's most flexible configurations to leverage Flash
technology--including new 100 GB drives, Fibre Channel, SATA, and new
highly efficient 2.5" SAS drives in the same disk array enclosure.
Support for these new drive technologies further exploit the cost and
performance efficiencies available with EMC FAST VP (Fully Automated
Storage Tiering for Virtual Pools).
About VMAXe

D-Link Expands IP Surveillance Solutions with High Definition IP Cameras
New cameras offer smarter approach to surveillance for enhanced monitoring and greater flexibility for businesses
MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, Oct. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- D-Link, the cost-effective, standards-based unified networking solutions provider for small business and medium enterprise IT environments, today announced three high definition (HD) IP cameras in an expansion of its growing range of IP surveillance solutions. The D-Link® DCS-3716 and DCS-2210/2230 cameras are equipped with advanced multi-megapixel image sensors for increased resolution, which is ideal for remote monitoring and capturing sharper details such as reading license plates or facial details. With this level of detail, businesses can reduce the number of cameras deployed and achieve more flexibility from their surveillance systems.
"As the IP surveillance industry continues to grow, D-Link is committed to developing innovative cameras like the DCS-3716 and DCS-2210/2230 to ensure customers can implement cutting-edge, cost-effective surveillance solutions," said Vance Kozik, director of product marketing, IP Surveillance for D-Link. The cameras also come with an SD card slot providing local storage for continued recording even if there is a network outage, two-way audio support with built-in microphone and speaker, and Power over Ethernet (PoE)[1] support to easily place cameras in areas where no power outlet is readily available.
D-Link's Comprehensive IP Surveillance Solution
D-Link's new IP cameras can be incorporated with D-Link high-performance/high-availability IP network storage and network switches that support Auto Surveillance Virtual LANs, providing businesses with a comprehensive IP surveillance solution. D-Link's unique Auto Surveillance VLAN technology automates the configuration of data and surveillance video transmission through a single switch to ensure the quality of real-time video without compromising the transmission of network data. D-Link solutions ensure interoperability, ease of integration and a single support call for troubleshooting, allowing IT managers to leverage these affordable IP surveillance and networking solutions in multi-vendor IT infrastructures without being locked into proprietary hardware, software or service requirements.
About the DCS-3716 Three Megapixel Day & Night WDR IP Camera
The DCS-3716 Three Megapixel Day & Night WDR IP Camera, which provides HD video (up to 2048 x 1536), is suitable for effectively monitoring areas previously only serviced by multiple CCTV or lower resolution IP cameras. The camera also features a unique "simultaneous stream" capability, which allows multiple users to log-in and view live H.264, MPEG-4, or MJPEG streams at the same time on a wide range of devices, including smartphones or desktop computer, without disrupting the monitoring or video storage process. The DCS-3716 is easy to install and delivers clear multi-megapixel images in the most adverse lighting conditions and, when used in conjunction with infrared (IR) lighting, it provides visibility in total darkness through the use of an infrared cut removable (ICR) filter. For applications where even greater detail is needed, the DCS-3716 implements a 3 megapixel CMOS sensor and IR-corrected Varifocal lens and supports Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) functionality providing properly exposed video even under strong backlighting conditions.

Suitable for SOHO environments, both cameras include built-in passive infrared (PIR) sensor for improved motion detection accuracy. Equipped with their own web interface, D-Link HD Cube cameras can be accessed remotely from anywhere over the Internet using a 3GPP-enabled mobile device. These cameras also implement an electronic pan/tilt/zoom (ePTZ) feature, allowing for the selection of a target region for close-up viewing simply by clicking on the video feed displayed in a browser.
Pricing & Availability
The DCS-3716, DCS-2210 and DCS-2230 cameras will be available in November 2011. All of D-Link's IP surveillance cameras, network switches and IP storage products are sold through D-Link's vast network of channel partners, including value-added resellers, solution providers and distributors.

For thirteen days, beginning Wednesday, October 19th through Monday, October 31st, users will be able to watch, rate and discuss their favorite "kills" on Crackle. 'Kill Count' boasts more than 300 "kills" in its collection including, but not limited to, 35 vicious stabbings, 12 decapitations, 8 defenestrations, 7 zombie face-slashings, 4 vehicular murders and 2 spontaneous combustions...all for 1 bloody good time.

Thirteen films featuring the craziest "kills" from the 'Kill Count' collection will be a part of this competition such as HACK, THE GRUDGE 3 and NIGHT OF THE CREEPS, among others. Governor Chris Christie Salutes Panasonic's Commitment to Remain in the State of New Jersey
Governor and Lt. Governor Laud Panasonic's Decision to Keep and Grow Jobs in the State
NEWARK, N.J., Oct. 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno addressed assembled Panasonic Corporation of North America employees at the future site of the company's headquarters in Newark, NJ. The Governor and Lt. Governor commended Panasonic's decision to remain and grow in New Jersey. Panasonic Chairman & CEO, Joseph Taylor addressed city, county and state officials, developers as well as company employees, thanking them for their continued support.
Panasonic's new, state-of-the-art, sustainable high-rise office building will be constructed by Matrix Development Group and SJP Properties adjacent to Newark's One Riverfront Center. The structure will be home to 1,000 Panasonic employees and contractors, beginning in 2013. The new facility will total 410,000 square feet, with 250,000 square feet leased to Panasonic.
"This project was a great collaboration between government at all levels and demonstrates a commitment to creating jobs," said Panasonic Corporation of North America Chairman and CEO, Joseph M. Taylor. "Panasonic is committed to serving as a worldwide green business technology leader, and our planned office tower in Newark will allow us to meet and exceed our goals now and in the future."
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie also cited Panasonic's choice of relocation to Newark as an example of a trend. "This is another success story about one of our largest businesses choosing to stay in New Jersey, and [us] continuing to grow and invest in our state and people," Governor Christie said. "This project directly benefits New Jerseyans by keeping over 800 jobs here, creating up to 200 new, permanent positions and spurring the private investment of an estimated $190 million in one of our key urban centers. Our agenda to lower costs, improve the business climate and create jobs is having an impact, with Panasonic's decision, the latest example of a global company that is choosing to call New Jersey home. Creating good-paying Jersey jobs for our families is a top priority of my Administration. This is why $2.35 billion in targeted, impactful tax cuts to spur growth and job creation were a core aspect of my budget, and why we will continue to take strong action to get our economy moving."
Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno, who leads economic development efforts for the Christie administration through the Partnership for Action, said, "Competition between states for companies and investment of any size has never been stronger. When you're talking about a world-renowned, pioneering leader such as Panasonic Corporation, that competition is multiplied tenfold. Panasonic reaffirming their commitment to New Jersey is further evidence that the Partnership for Action is working exactly as the Governor and I envisioned, to retain and grow quality jobs, spur investment and enhance the state's reputation in industries critical for success in the 21st century innovation economy."
Chief Executive Officer of Brick City Development Corporation, the City of Newark's economic development corporation, Lyneir Richardson, also spoke on behalf of Newark Mayor Cory Booker, saying that, "Newark is really working on attracting new companies to our city, and the Panasonic lease signing signifies the start of the first office tower in the city in over two decades. For a company as well known and as well respected as Panasonic, this is really serving as rocket fuel for our business attraction and business development efforts, and we thank Joe Taylor, a true visionary leader."
Panasonic's decision to have its North American headquarters remain in the state of New Jersey has also encouraged further pro-growth, job creation initiatives such as the proposed "Grow NJ" economic development program. The NJ Business Action Center worked closely with Panasonic to help encourage the company to remain in New Jersey and the Economic Development Authority (EDA) approved an award of up to $102.4 million through the Urban Transit Hub Tax Credit Program to support the company's move to Newark.
About Panasonic Corporation of North America
Panasonic Corporation of North America is the principal North American subsidiary of Panasonic Corporation (NYSE: PC), and the hub of Panasonic's U.S. branding, marketing, sales, service and R&D operations. The company develops, manufactures and distributes an extensive range of digital and other electronics products for consumer, workplace and industrial purposes primarily for the U.S. and Canada.
About the City of Newark, New Jersey
Newark, commonly referred to as Brick City, is the third oldest city in the United States and the largest in New Jersey, with a population of more than 280,000 people. Newark sits on one of the nation's largest transportation super-structures including an international airport, major rail connections, major highway intersections and the busiest seaport on the east coast.
With a new Administration as of July 2006, Newark continues to see signs of a strong revival. It showed population growth in the 2010 Census. Its six major colleges and universities are further expanding their presence. The production of affordable housing has doubled, businesses are returning and crime is going down. There is still much work to be done but Newark is on its way to achieving its mission: to set a national standard for urban transformation.
