New Management Pack for ASCI's Popular Job Scheduling Application Allows System Administrators To Monitor Performance and Health of ActiveBatch Jobs, Plans and Queues from Nagios Consoles
MORRISTOWN, N.J., May 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Advanced Systems Concepts, Inc. (ASCI), maker of ActiveBatch® Workload Automation and Job Scheduling Software, today announced the availability of the ActiveBatch Management Pack for Nagios®, the well-known open source network monitoring software application. With the Nagios Management Pack, network and IT operations staff can now oversee ActiveBatch Objects, bringing even greater convenience to one of the world's most versatile job scheduling platforms.
ActiveBatch currently provides a free installation kit for Nagios/ActiveBatch users that simplifies the configuration of the Nagios server and allows for the monitoring of the ActiveBatch Job Scheduler and Execution Agents. The ActiveBatch Management Pack for Nagios takes the next step, allowing users to monitor ActiveBatch Objects such as Jobs, Plans and Queues, thus adding a powerful new capability by providing users with the ability to monitor critical workflows whose failure affects mission critical processes via the Nagios console. The management pack also monitors memory consumption, CPU usage and other execution agent operational parameters, in addition to simplifying the Nagios system setup.
"Job Scheduling and IT monitoring solutions are about giving IT Operations the ability to monitor the essential business process and technologies that allow their organization to run," said Jim Manias, Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Advanced Systems Concepts. "As we've done for users of Microsoft System Center Operations Manager and OpenView, this management pack allows administrators to maintain a more comprehensive and unified view of network activity. Our goal is to continually add value to ActiveBatch--and we know this management pack will provide new flexibility for enterprises of all sizes."
ActiveBatch and Nagios jointly support Linux, UNIX, Windows and other systems. By integrating ActiveBatch into the Nagios monitoring dashboard, users are assured of prompt alerts and faster resolution. For example, when an alert is raised for an ActiveBatch Plan, Job, Queue or service, the Nagios console will alert network operations members with detailed information for a timely response that lowers time-to-resolution and improves overall service levels.
Nagios has gained currency with a wide range of organizations for its reliability, strong community support and low cost. The application, which issues alerts in the event of a system, service, application or business process failure, ensures prompt attention before outages can affect operations. Currently there are over one million estimated Nagios users worldwide.

Deployed at enterprises in 40 countries, ActiveBatch is a cross-platform solution that allows enterprises to centrally manage disparate jobs and workflows, including tasks across disparate operating systems, enterprise applications and even Web Services. The app shows the tremendous possibilities that our advanced U-verse TV service and network can deliver, putting viewers in control of which camera angle they watch."
With Chicago Cubs Multiview, you can choose which of the seven channels is the main picture, and easily select and record any Chicago Cubs channel from within the app. The alternate camera angles are set up for each home game above home plate, third base, first base and center field.
"Having Multiview extend nationally in U-verse homes is one more way to enjoy our Cubs telecast," said Julio Marenghi WGN America's Executive Vice President/General Manager. "We are proud to partner with AT&T to provide fans this enhanced viewing experience."

AAA Helps More Motorists Compare Gas Prices with Launch of TripTik Mobile app for Android
With the summer driving season approaching and gas prices near $4 per gallon, AAA expands mobile offerings to help plan road trips and compare costs
ORLANDO, Fla., May 10, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In just a few weeks millions of Americans will kick off the summer driving season with a Memorial Day getaway. With the current national average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded gasoline at $3.95, $1.04 more than last year, many travelers are concerned about how fuel prices will impact their budget. Those with an Android-compatible smart phone can save time comparing costs with the launch of an Android version of the AAA TripTik(®) Mobile application. The app, previously available for iPhone, also provides directions and information on restaurants, hotels and attractions.
AAA TripTik Mobile is a GPS-based app with maps showing gas station locations and other points of interest, such as hotels, restaurants and attractions, near a user's location or any user-specified location. Gas station details include updated prices for all available grades of gasoline. Preference settings allow users to show prices for just their preferred grade and sort stations alphabetically or by distance. AAA membership is not required for the app, which is available for download at the Android Market.
AAA's Memorial Day Forecast, which will be released in mid-May, will provide insight on how fuel prices will impact summer driving trends; however some travelers may offset expensive fuel costs by traveling a shorter distance, decreasing the duration of their trips or reducing spending in other areas of their travel budget. The free app, as well as AAA's TripTik Travel Planner (available free at AAA.com) assists users in planning a summer getaway within their budget. These travel planning tools search and display gas prices, hotels, restaurants and attractions along a route or specific address.
Hotel and restaurant information includes AAA's Diamond Ratings based on professional in-person inspections. There's also an option to call for lodging reservations with the touch of a button. The AAA TripTik Mobile app also provides maps and turn-by-turn directions to other points of interest including local events, AAA offices and Approved Auto Repair facilities, as well as user-entered addresses. The app can recalculate routes and provide voice guidance for the next maneuver.
AAA TripTik Mobile uses the latest mapping data from the navigation market leader NAVTEQ. Full functionality on iPod Touch and non-3G iPad devices requires uninterrupted Wi-Fi access.
AAA TripTik Mobile is the third free app offered by AAA for iPhone and Android users. The AAA Discounts app, with more than a million total downloads, also uses GPS technology to display nearby AAA Show Your Card & Save locations. AAA Roadside enables AAA members who require emergency road service to send their vehicle description and breakdown details directly to AAA. Additional information is provided on AAA.com/mobile.

New Deloitte Book Offers Strategies for Defending Against Brand Sabotage in the Era of Social Media
Jonathan Copulsky's "Brand Resilience" identifies seven crucial steps to brand risk management
NEW YORK, May 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- As true and false information spreads rapidly across the vast social media landscape by disgruntled customers, competing companies and employees, even the most venerable brands can be leveled in a flash. "Brand Resilience: Managing Risk and Recovery in a High Speed World," the new book from Deloitte's Jonathan Copulsky, shows why brands are more fragile and exposed than ever, outlining seven key steps organizations should take to defend their brands against the risks of acts of sabotage.
For more than 30 years, Copulsky, a principal at Deloitte Consulting LLP, has helped organizations build their brands as a chief marketing officer and strategic marketing advisor. In this book, he argues that companies often invest heavily in building their brands, but fail to establish detailed brand defenses. By neglecting to play an aggressive defensive game - a Risk Intelligent(TM) approach to brand management - organizations leave themselves vulnerable to attack and rapid brand value erosion.
"Protecting a brand today is like fighting an insurgency: enemies are hard to identify, weapons are improvised, and the threat of friendly fire looms," says Copulsky. "Brand stewards need to learn to think like counterinsurgents, constantly developing and adapting their brand defenses to stay one step ahead of brand saboteurs. Brand risk has always been a threat; but, the Internet, social media and search engines now memorialize brand damages forever, just one or two clicks away."
Written for marketing and sales executives, risk managers, executives and board members across industries, "Brand Resilience: Managing Risk and Recovery in a High Speed World" consists of 11 chapters filled with dozens of case studies of well known and not-so-well known brands and the actions their organizations are employing to detect, manage, prevent and mitigate brand sabotage.
Copulsky's seven key steps to manage and avert brand damage are:
1. Assess your brand risks: Identify the factors that can threaten a brand,
including understanding source and potential impact.
2. Galvanize your brand troops: Educate employees -- as well as vendors,
business partners and other external parties that represent the brand --
so that they are actively engaged in detecting, preventing and responding
to brand risks.
3. Establish your brand risk early warning systems: Build sensing
capabilities by identifying patterns in risk, so if there are early
warning signs of problems they can be dealt with as early as possible.
4. Repel the attacks on your brand: Formulate and execute an
action-oriented response plan in the event that a brand is compromised.
5. Learn and adapt your brand defenses: Step back and identify lessons
learned, making sure they are embedded in training and processes going
forward.
6. Measure and track your brand performance: On an ongoing basis, evaluate
progress in managing your brand risk and building brand resilience.
7. Expand popular support for your brand: Broaden your internal and external
bases of support, including your "volunteer army."

New solutions are required to overcome the performance, availability, scalability and security issues introduced by this hybrid network environment.
"Enterprises are increasingly deploying a mix of both in-house and cloud-based applications," said Joe Skorupa, research vice president, data center transformation, at Gartner. "As this shift to hybrid networks occurs, ensuring application performance and end-user productivity is critical, creating a need to integrate access to corporate applications, as well as SaaS, in a single pervasive framework."
Akamai and Riverbed® are announcing their intention to develop a joint application acceleration solution for hybrid cloud networks that leverages a combination of Internet optimization and wide area network (WAN) optimization. The planned solution would be designed to accelerate cloud-based applications.
Akamai and Riverbed offerings are already used separately today by more than 13,000 organizations, including by Fortune 500 businesses worldwide. Akamai's globally-distributed network of more than 90,000 servers deployed in the cloud provides route, protocol and application layer optimizations for the Internet, and serves roughly 30 percent of all Web traffic. Riverbed has thousands of appliances deployed within enterprise networks providing network, application and storage optimizations for the WAN.
In creating a joint offering, Akamai and Riverbed intend to focus on technology integration designed to solve the new application performance challenges introduced by hybrid cloud networks. Akamai Internet optimization software would be integrated within Riverbed Steelhead® appliances with the goal of extending Internet optimizations into enterprise networks, thereby extending Akamai's edge from close proximity to the data center to directly within the enterprise.
In addition, Riverbed WAN optimization software would be integrated within Akamai edge servers with the goal of extending WAN optimization into the public cloud, thereby extending Riverbed's edge from the data center to close proximity to cloud data centers.
"The rapid move to the cloud presents new opportunities for two industry leaders, Riverbed and Akamai, to create solutions for enterprises to simplify their extension to the cloud while leveraging the infrastructure they already have in place," said Eric Wolford, executive vice president of Marketing and Business Development, Riverbed. "Accelerating software as a service, for example, across a hybrid cloud environment helps businesses increase application adoption. We believe that greater adoption means improved business results, operating and infrastructure savings, and user productivity."
"Akamai's highly-distributed architecture is close to any public cloud infrastructure and Riverbed Steelhead appliances stretch across thousands of enterprise IT networks from the data center to the branch office and mobile worker," said Willie Tejada, vice president, Application and Site Acceleration, Akamai. "The alliance is focused on marrying best-in-class protocol optimizations for maximum acceleration and infrastructure offload. Together, both companies expect to provide a seamless solution with quick time-to-value while leveraging each other's existing footprints."
The joint offering is expected to be available early in 2012. Both companies invite existing and prospective customers to visit http://www.akamai.com/riverbed or http://www.riverbed.com/akamai to learn more about the strategic relationship.

They are backed by 24x7x365 service level agreements (SLA), global network operations centers, personalized technical support (via phone, email and online), and guaranteed next business day hardware replacement.
Whether equipment is new or pre-owned and regardless of purchase origin, upgrade history or end-of-life/end-of-service certification status, NetSure services provide customers a complete support solution that is an affordable alternative to traditional OEM service at savings of 50 - 90% over comparable coverage.
"Faced with ballooning maintenance costs, inflexible OEM contracts and unnecessary infrastructure upgrades, customers are demanding more economical and effective network services and support options," said Mike Sheldon, president and CEO of Network Hardware Resale. "NHR's ascent as the undisputed secondary market leader is built on a reputation for product reliability and delivering customer service without compromise. With our expanded managed services and support coverage, we're uniquely positioned to meet customers' growing needs for affordable, modular solutions that can be customized with flexible contracts and terms to meet their network and budget requirements."
NetSure is ideally suited for organizations looking to realize optimal ROI, protection and control over their network investments and refreshes. "It's important for technology providers to offer a mix of support offerings to ensure customers can select the right level of support for their unique business needs," said Rob Brothers, Program Director, Software and Hardware Support Services, IDC. "We're enabling customers to extend the life of a network while at the same time manage against threats, all at performance levels that businesses demand today."
NHR's migration into managed services builds upon thousands of hours of customer network equipment testing and technical support of legacy networks. NHR also has a strong track record of success with helping businesses maintain their network up-time, helping to ensure the continuity of business operations.

Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation successfully deploys IAM solutions from Hitachi ID Systems
Achieves 100 percent adoption for internal users within six months
CALGARY, May 10 /PRNewswire/ - Hitachi ID Systems, a developer of identity and access management (IAM) solutions, has
made available for download from its website a case study on how the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) automated its password management processes using Hitachi ID Identity
Management software.
DTCC was experiencing a high volume of password management calls to its
IT help desk from more than 3,800 internal and 80,000 external users.
The organization sought a way to streamline customer service,
evaluating a range of vendors and products, ultimately settling on
Hitachi ID Password Manager (HIPM).
DTCC, through its subsidiaries, provides clearing, settlement and
information services for equities, corporate and municipal bonds,
government and mortgage-backed securities, money market instruments and
over-the-counter derivatives. In addition, DTCC is a leading processor
of mutual funds and insurance transactions, linking funds and carriers
with their distribution networks.
"Our main drivers are typically cost, efficiency and security," said Adam Bryan, DTCC managing director. "As an industry 'utility' that operates with an at-cost business
model, we are constantly seeking new efficiencies on all levels that
will drive down cost for our users while, at the same time, enhances
the level of security required for an organization that plays such a
critical role in the financial marketplace."
Hitachi ID Management Suite helps organizations manage the user
lifecycle, including access provisioning, compliance, passwords and
other authentication factors more effectively, which reduces IT support
cost, increases productivity and enhances security. The Password
Manager module features include password synchronization, self-service
reset, token management, security question enrolment, biometric
enrolment, PKI certificate management and more. The recently released
version 7.1.0 of Password Manager is the first solution on the market
to enable mobile users with corporate laptops that use cached domain
credentials to access self-service password reset, right from their
locked-out login screen. This capability, called Self Service Anywhere,
allows access to password reset and smart-card PIN reset from home, a
hotel room and even a public WiFi hot spot or aircard.
The Hitachi ID solution was initially rolled out to the internal user
population over a period of six months. Well supported by internal
marketing and the inclusion of login screen on workstations, the
application enjoyed a 100 percent adoption rate by the end of those
first six months.
Since deploying HIPM, DTCC has seen a reduction of over 25 percent in
calls to their internal and external IT help desks. This has enabled
DTCC to reassign four of 12 support staff to other, more productive,
customer service functions.
"Whenever we eliminate [manual processes] or allow client self service,
we reduce our security exposure and risks," Bryan recently told CSO
Magazine in an interview about the selection and deployment of the
Hitachi ID application.
Hitachi ID Systems, Inc. is a leading provider of identity management
solutions. Hitachi ID Management Suite has been licensed by hundreds of
mid- to large-sized organizations worldwide. Hitachi ID Systems'
solutions enable organizations to effectively manage every aspect of
the user lifecycle. Hitachi ID Management Suite includes Identity Manager, Password Manager and Privileged Access Manager. Industry analyst firm, Ovum Consulting recently ranked Hitachi ID
among enterprise software powerhouses as an identity and access
management suite provider to consider, citing the company's robust
technology and exemplary customer support.

Practice Fusion's Free EMR Software Saves Doctors $57 Million
Company offers incentive calculator, cost analysis tools for practices transitioning to Electronic Medical Records
SAN FRANCISCO, May 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Practice Fusion, the fastest growing EMR and healthcare community, has saved doctors an estimated $57 million to date with its free Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system. To help more doctors calculate the savings they can expect using the company's technology, Practice Fusion today launched a savings analytics tool comparing its free EMR with other top paid systems and paper records.
Practice Fusion's innovative ad-supported business model allows any doctor to access a totally free EMR, including support, training and unlimited user accounts.
"With more than 400 EMR offerings on the market, doctors can be overwhelmed and struggle to understand what an EMR transition could mean to their bottom line," said Ryan Howard, CEO and Founder of Practice Fusion.
"Small medical practices can't afford to make a mistake with their technology choices. Nothing beats a free EMR and we've done the math to show doctors exactly what they'll save with us, what they would have to spend with other systems, and how much they'll get to pocket in stimulus incentive dollars under Meaningful Use."
The EMR Calculator offers four critical tools with interactive dials for EMR incentive program enrollment year, the number of doctors per practice, and estimated Medicare charges per doctor, to calculate:
-- How much practices can expect to save by adopting Practice Fusion
-- Expected EMR stimulus incentive payments by year
-- Total expected stimulus incentive payment for the practice
-- The financial benefit of Practice Fusion vs. paper
Physicians across the US are preparing to receive up to $44,000 from Medicare for demonstrating the "meaningful use" of an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, but many of these doctors will hand their incentive dollars back to EMR vendors through the ongoing costs associated with licensing, maintaining and updating software. The EMR Calculator shows how using Practice Fusion from 2011 onwards, a small practice of three 'Meaningful Use' doctors, with annual Medicare charges of $24,000 per doctor, can expect to receive $132,000 in cumulative stimulus payments - while the average EMR would result in a net loss of up to $160,000.
"We've already saved American doctors around $60 million with our free EMR and with Meaningful Use payments on the horizon there's a real opportunity for cash-strapped medical practices to replace paper charts while also improving their bottom line," said Robert Rowley, MD, Chief Medical Officer of Practice Fusion. "It's a no brainer - save on the cost of an EMR, keep the $44,000 to reinvest in your practice and deliver better care to your patients."
The EMR Calculator is available for free, along with additional resources on Meaningful Use guidelines and the healthcare stimulus program, at http://www.practicefusion.com. Practice Fusion's free, web-based EMR is ad-supported and available to any doctor in the US.
About Practice Fusion
Practice Fusion provides a free, web-based Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system to physicians. With charting, scheduling, e-prescribing, billing, lab integrations, referral letters, unlimited support and a Personal Health Record for patients, Practice Fusion's EMR addresses the complex needs of today's healthcare providers and disrupts the health IT status quo. Practice Fusion is the fastest growing EMR community in the country with more than 80,000 users serving 11 million patients. SonicWALL Expands Next-Generation Firewall Lineup with NSA E8510
Industry's First 1U 10 Gigabit Ethernet Capable Next-Generation Firewall Delivers Application Control, Bandwidth Management, Real-Time Analysis and Visualization Tools for the Enterprise
LAS VEGAS and SAN JOSE, Calif., May 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- INTEROP --SonicWALL, Inc., the leading provider of intelligent network security and data protection solutions, today launched the SonicWALL NSA E8510, the latest addition to its range of next-generation firewalls. The Network Security Appliance (NSA) E8510 provides 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) connectivity in a compact, 1U rack mountable form-factor to accommodate security, performance and power efficiency requirements of modern high-capacity networks. The appliance is powered by SonicWALL's SonicOS 5.8 firmware, which offers latency-free intrusion prevention and anti-malware protection. SonicOS 5.8 features application intelligence and control functionality for granular control over application traffic and bandwidth in real-time. With the ability to block or throttle application usage on a user or group level, and its compact form factor and affordable price, the E8510 is an ideal solution for corporate, healthcare and education deployments.
As organizations expand their existing networking infrastructure, firewalls are often overlooked and can become a critical bottleneck. When network infrastructures are upgraded to 10 GbE to accommodate for growth in bandwidth requirements beyond 1 Gigabit per second (Gbps), these upgrades can be neutralized by firewalls that are unable to handle high bandwidth requirements or connectivitiy. This is especially true as an increasing number of security-conscious organizations replace their traditional firewalls with a new breed of deep packet inspection (DPI) firewalls that provide protection against the evolving threat ecosystem and the network attack vectors prevalent today.
The SonicWALL NSA E8510 addresses these performance concerns with dual 10 GbE SFP+ ports and high performance full DPI which does not introduce latency to the network. Combined with the SonicWALL Application Intelligence and Control features, this 10 GbE next-generation firewall provides high-speed network performance and ensures security with integrated intrusion prevention (IPS), anti-malware and SSL traffic protection.
"The NSA E8510 Next-Generation Firewall is designed for enterprises that need multi-gigabit network performance, application control and comprehensive security features," said Dmitriy Ayrapetov, product line manager, SonicWALL. "It builds on what is already the broadest range of next-generation firewalls on the market and offers a robust solution to customers with 10 GbE infrastructure requirements."
"We congratulate SonicWALL on their innovative 1U 10 Gigabit Ethernet Security Appliance which effectively leverages the leading performance, low-latency and low-power of Cavium's OCTEON Multi-core processor," said YJ Kim, general manager, infrastructure processor group, Cavium Networks. "This new SonicWALL appliance will enable customers to garner great benefits in terms of rack space, compelling performance and features".
The new appliance capitalizes on SonicWALL's industry-leading application intelligence and control solution, putting the power back in the hands of IT administrators with new levels of management and ease-of-use. Based on a continuously expanding database containing more than 3,500 application signatures, administrators can easily create bandwidth management or control policies across the network. These can be based on individual applications, collections of applications or entire pre-defined categories (such as social media or gaming) for users or groups of users to optimize network and employee efficiency.
When combining the power and flexibility of the NSA E8510 appliance with the efficiency gains provided by the recently announced SonicWALL WAN Acceleration Appliance (WXA) Series and application intelligence and control features, organizations realize significant gains in efficiency, optimization and performance of critical applications both on local and distributed networks.

Ahead of the Curve -- Entrust Providing Trial Elliptic Curve Cryptography Certificates
ECC trial certificates help organizations test applications, services with advanced cryptography standard
DALLAS, May 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Always ahead of the curve, Entrust, Inc., wants to ensure greater adoption and use of an advanced security standard -- Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC). To help promote the deployment and real-world use of ECC-based certificates, Entrust is offering complimentary samples of operational certificates and identities to innovative organizations.
"This is a unique opportunity for organizations to test and promote an advanced security standard," said Entrust President and CEO Bill Conner. "ECC certificates offer improved performance at equivalent security levels when compared to traditional cryptography standards like RSA. As such, it's important their use continues to grow."
In just three simple steps, organizations are able to test different types of ECC digital certificates, including SSL server certificates and S/MIME certificates.
Elliptic curve cryptography, or ECC, is a family of public-key algorithms that can provide shorter key lengths and, depending upon the operating platform and the applications for which they are used, may provide improved performance over systems based on integer factorization and discrete logarithms.
Although RSA is by far the most widely used public-key algorithm, it suffers serious performance impacts when key sizes increase much beyond those in common use today. For this reason, depending upon the characteristics of the operating environment, it is worthwhile considering switching to an algorithm with more favorable characteristics (e.g., ECC) at the security levels that will become common in years to come.
As cryptographic strength requirements increase, so do the sizes of signatures and public keys, and so does the time required to perform cryptographic operations on a particular computing platform. This rate of increase will be considerably faster for RSA than it is for ECC.
"Entrust fully supports the growth and innovation of ECC technology and all that it will enable," said Conner. "ECC will become a powerful tool as organizations require security standards that continue to protect for decades to come."
ECC certificates are compatible with the full suite of Entrust Authority PKI solutions.

AT&T Targets Close to $1 Billion of Investment to Deploy Global Network-Based Cloud and Mobility Solutions for Businesses
Company to Focus on New-Generation Services Like Mobile Applications, 'as-a-Service' Cloud Based Solutions and Network Sourcing for Companies of All Sizes Across Multiple Industries
DALLAS, May 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Responding to demand for solutions that help businesses dramatically improve productivity and efficiency and reduce costs, AT&T* today said that it is focusing its plans to deploy global network-based cloud, mobility and network sourcing solutions to companies across a range of industries.
AT&T is planning investments totaling nearly $1 billion in 2011 to deploy next-generation services for businesses ranging from the smallest firms to the world's largest and most sophisticated multinational companies. (Note: the nearly $1 billion investment is part of AT&T's previously announced planned $19 billion capital budget for 2011). The new services are largely made possible by the unprecedented proliferation of high-speed wired and wireless networks, smart mobile computing devices and network-based applications.
The company intends to invest in five key focus areas - like enterprise mobility applications and cloud/as-a-service enhancements - while also rolling out platforms, systems and e-capabilities to significantly automate, enhance and simplify business customers' experience and support.
AT&T is targeting its investment to companies, government agencies and institutions in industries such as manufacturing, retail, hospitality, healthcare and automotive.
"We continue to invest significantly in cloud-based, mobility and network sourcing solutions because customers are increasingly recognizing that transformative services like these increase productivity, improve operational effectiveness and lower costs," said John Stankey, president and CEO of AT&T Business Solutions.
Revenues from these and other new-generation capabilities which represent AT&T's most advanced business solutions -- including ethernet, virtual private networks, hosting, IP conferencing and application services -- grew 18.8 percent in Q1 2011 versus the year-earlier quarter -- their strongest growth in more than two years. Looking at key individual solutions in the same period, international revenues for virtual private networks, hosting revenues, and network sourcing revenues all achieved double digit percentage year-over-year quarterly growth outside of the U.S.
AT&T's 2011 investment priorities for business customers include:
-- Advanced Mobility Solutions and Connected Devices: In 1Q 2011, AT&T
added 1.6 million emerging devices, which included connected devices and
embedded computing devices such as tablets, netbooks, and laptops. More
than 12 million emerging devices are now connected to the AT&T network.
AT&T has seen the use of mobile applications triple since 2009.
-- Cloud Based and Emerging Services: AT&T has embedded cloud capabilities
directly into its network so that the company can manage and deliver
services and applications as part of a total solution to any device.
These services offer customers tremendous flexibility and shared
economics for their compute and storage needs - and are all protected by
AT&T's industry-leading network-based security solutions.
-- Global Enterprise Networking: AT&T has focused investment in
business-focused networks, systems and applications to provide a
globally consistent set of robust and highly-secure services for our
1700 target multinational customers. More than 70 percent of AT&T's
frame relay customers have made the transition to IP-based solutions,
which allow them to easily add managed services such as network
security, cloud services and IP conferencing on top of their
infrastructures.
-- Small Business Services: To serve its more than 3 million small- and
medium-sized business customers in the U.S., AT&T is continuing to
invest in delivering new and simplified service bundles and increasing
download speeds within its existing 22- state broadband footprint.
-- Healthcare Industry Focus: Building on the successful launch of AT&T
ForHealth(SM) practice area in 2010, AT&T plans to continue to
accelerate the delivery of innovative wireless, cloud-based and
networking services and applications to help the healthcare industry
improve patient care and reduce costs.
AT&T's business customers include all of the Fortune 1000 companies, over 50% of the FTSE companies, more than 85% of the CAC 40 companies, over 80% of the DAX companies and over 60% of the Nikkei 225 companies.
