WASHINGTON, Feb. 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The newly released "Evolution of Radio Waves," video outlines the history of radio waves.

The two-minute animation, designed by JESS3, walks the viewer from the very first audio oscillator, the HP 200A, to current technology with Agilent's newest and most popular function generator, the 33550 series.

New Data Research by Testuff Shows That 27% of Test Management Tool Users Rely on Email as a Bug Tracker. Paid Solutions FogBugz (Fog Creek) and Jira (Atlassian), Next on the List With 20% and 16%

TEL AVIV, Israel, February 24, 2011/PRNewswire/ --     Testuff Ltd. (http://www.testuff.com), a provider of on-demand services
for managing and executing manual and automation software tests, and for
reporting defects, has today released a series of bug tracker tools usage
statistics, based on information found on the company's large database.

    In the data research the company holds, some interesting, and perhaps
even surprising, numbers were found. One notable statistic is no doubt the
percentage of users who are still working with their Email application as
a bug tracking solution. Unlike the common belief, it seems that many
users in the testing industry choose to work with a test management system,
even before they have a bug tracker.

    The industry's belief that - in a company's tools selection process -
the bug tracker is selected prior to the test management tool, is therefore
untrue for over 1/4 of users.

    According to Testuff Ltd's findings, the two other top solutions on the list
are the paid solutions FogBugz and Jira, with 20% and 16% of users opting for
these respectively. Only then do the open source solutions (and other paid
solutions) appear, with the highest reaching only about 1/3 of these numbers.     
This is quite surprising, as many of the open source solutions have a high
profile online presence, and it was thought that they capture a larger
audience than the data now shows.

    One possible explanation for this, is the fact that for many, these
open-source solutions are not free, as they are serviced as hosted solutions.

    Another conclusion to be drawn from the data is that SaaS solutions are
favoured by bug tracker users more than before, following the global SaaS
trend.

The new Atmel AT42QT1070 and AT42QT2120 devices offer designers an easy-to-use solution with no firmware development, reduced bill of materials and lower power consumption. In addition, the AT42QT2120 device offers the industry's greatest proximity range of up to 8 inches to enable unique new capabilities including 3-D gestures.

This family of touch controllers includes a unique touch sensing architecture that eliminates the need for any external components and uses only one I/O pin for each sensing channel. Space Shuttle Discovery Launch Available Live for 'Social Viewing' via LOOT's Sunset Yacht in PlayStation®Home

Last Discovery Shuttle launch will be the first live streaming event featured by the PlayStation®Home premium space.

CULVER CITY, Calif., Feb. 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Fans of NASA will have an opportunity to watch the final liftoff of Space Shuttle Discovery in a unique "social viewing" environment available through Sony Computer Entertainment America's PlayStation®Home for PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system.

A live stream of the launch of the Discovery will be shown on the new NASA TV Channel of the Sunset Yacht, a premium personal space from LOOT, Sony DADC's interactive entertainment development team. The launch of Space Shuttle Discovery is scheduled for February 24th at 4:50 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

The launch of Discovery is the first live streaming event to be offered by Sunset Yacht, which debuted in December. The Sunset Yacht features LOOT's proprietary Entertainment-On-Demand system which allows users to communicate via Bluetooth headsets while watching popular television shows, web series and other types of content--all from inside the PlayStation Home social gaming environment.

Spanish-speakers now have easy access to popular government programs and services on their mobile devices, where and when they need it.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 23, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The U.S. General Services Administration launched today a mobile version of GobiernoUSA.gov, the official portal of the U.S. government in Spanish with access to a bounty of government websites, programs and services. Units: About 2,270

Manufacturer: Niles Audio Corp., of Miami, Fla.

Hazard: If the battery falls from the remote control during handling, it can rupture and smoke or ignite, posing a fire hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: The company has received four reports of batteries falling from the remote control system during handling; one of the batteries ignited and singed a carpet and the other three smoked.

Description: This recall involves the Niles iRemoteTS and iC2 remote control systems. These are wireless remote control devices that are designed to operate audio, video and home theater systems from a single remote control. The iRemoteTS measures 5.4 by 6.2 by 1.25 inches. The Niles logo is featured in the top-left corner of the unit. The iC2 measures 5.2 by 3 by 7.5 inches. "iC2" and the Niles logo are printed on the front of the unit.   

Sold at: Authorized dealers and distributors of audio/video equipment between January 2008 and September 2010 for about $1,300 for the iRemoteTS and $1,000 for the iC2.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and contact Niles Audio to schedule an in-home repair to receive a replacement battery and a more securebattery cover. ARLINGTON, Va., Feb. 23, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Trucking Associations announced its support of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's proposed prohibition on the use of hand-held mobile phones, though it urged the agency to allow the use of hands free devices, citing agency research demonstrating the net safety benefits of such devices.

"ATA's progressive safety agenda calls for the safe use of technology and our associations' policy calls for laws and regulations that ban all motorists from using hand-held mobile phones while driving," ATA President and CEO Bill Graves said. "Recognizing the risks of hand held mobile phone use, it simply makes sense to prohibit their use by all motorists to make the highways safer for everyone."

To this end, ATA has supported laws and regulations banning hand-held phone use for all motorists at the state and Federal levels. ATA reiterated this position in comments filed Feb. 22 on FMCSA's proposed ban for truck drivers. Last year, ATA supported DOT's ban on texting by drivers of commercial vehicles while their vehicles are in motion.

However, while ATA agreed with FMCSA that "drivers should be prohibited from dialing a telephone number while driving," it urged the agency not to limit drivers from pushing "a limited number of buttons in order to initiate a hands-free call."

ATA also objected to the proposed prohibition on reaching for a mobile phone while driving. Doing so, ATA argued, would prevent drivers from initiating hands-free calls which, as the agency's research demonstrates, can have a net safety benefit. Further, ATA claimed, it is inconsistent to permit drivers to reach for other objects (e.g., a C.B., a radio dial) but prohibit reaching for a cell phone.

Cell Phone Use Excites Brain: Results Inconclusive

In a surprise result, it seems that the non-ionizing radiation put out by cell phones actually does cause the brain to become excited. Duh. Radio waves will warm surrounding tissue. That's what they do. Is it harmful? Probably not, maybe in large quantity.

Cell phones were placed next to the left and right ears of the volunteers. Scans of the brain were taken with only the right cell phone turned on and with the sound muted for 50 minutes. Brain scans were taken again with both phones turned off.

The results showed that glucose metabolism increased in the area of the brain near the antenna of the phone that was turned on, but not near the one that was turned off. However, the researchers determined that the results were of "unknown clinical significance," meaning they couldn't tell whether the increased brain activity actually entails any health risks.


Basically, a cell phone is making your brain do SOMETHING. Also, it means you're burning more calories by using a cellphone. Win win?

NEW YORK, Feb. 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- TurnTo Networks, a leader in social commerce, today launched the newest addition to its Social Commerce Suite - "Ask Owners."  TurnTo Ask Owners is the first social question-and-answer application for online stores that reliably gets shopper questions answered by real customers.  Other shopping Q&A systems function more like bulletin boards - questions are posted and often go unanswered. Ask Owners furthers TurnTo's mission of unlocking the marketing value hidden in a store's customer base by building direct connections between shoppers and past customers.  Ask Owners joins two other products in TurnTo's Social Commerce Suite.  "Social Merchandising" tells shoppers which of their friends (from Facebook and their address books) are customers of the store, so shoppers can reach out to get the most trusted advice available - advice from friends.  "Purchase Sharing" captures buyers' good will right at the point of purchase with the question "Why did you choose this?" and makes those answers visible to shoppers throughout the merchant site.

Ask Owners has been in trials on a dozen merchant sites since November.  These sites span a broad range of verticals: home furnishings, electronics, jewelry, vitamins and supplements, and entertainment.  Key performance measures from the trial on these sites include:

    --  6% answer rate on question emails to past customers
    --  An average of 3 social answers for each question asked
    --  Most questions receive their first social answer in under 4 hours

Merchants already using Ask Owners say the system has many benefits.

First, the large volume of user content generated by the Ask Owners system provides a valuable research tool for shoppers that drives conversion while also delivering significant SEO benefits.

    --  Across all stores using TurnTo, visitors who interact with the TurnTo
        system convert (buy) at rates between 2 and 7 times the rate of shoppers
        who don't.
    --  On top sites, over 30% of all purchases come from shoppers who
        interacted with TurnTo before placing their order.
    --  Many merchants say that the TurnTo system produces a greater volume of
        user-generated content than their customer reviews system.

Second, stores are getting product insight from the Q&A exchanges that are directly affecting their merchandising strategies.

Third, Ask Owners serves as a powerful retention marketing tool.  With an average response rate of 6% on question emails, stores in the trial are bringing significant numbers of past shoppers back to the store to provide answers, thereby refreshing the relationship and opening the possibility of an impulse purchase.
