update to the popular doubleTwist AirSync(TM) Android app, giving users the
freedom to enjoy their photos, videos and music on any TV connected to an
Xbox or PlayStation 3.

New 12-Year Contract Inked Between Eutelsat and Mediaset to Expand Digital Television in Italy

PARIS, February 15, 2011/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --     Elettronica Industriale, the network operator of Italy's
Mediaset Group, and Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL) today
announced the signature of a 12-year contract for capacity at the HOT
BIRD(TM) video neighbourhood.

    The new contract for one transponder further consolidates a
20-year relationship between the two companies, increasing Mediaset's HOT
BIRD(TM) resources to five transponders. It will support Italy's nationwide
transition into a fully digital broadcasting environment, particularly
addressing Mediaset's requirement to deliver channels to its network of
Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) transmitters.

Sun Burps X-Class Solar Flare, First In 50 Months

Solar Cycle 24 was really quiet... Until the Sun decided it was time to spew out some high energy particles and a nice CME to go along with it. Sunspot group 1158 was the source of this X-class flare. X-class flares are the most powerful types. It was about 50 months ago since the last X-class was released. Solar flares and geomagnetic storms can cause many problems for electronic systems. We'll see if our satellites survive the onslaught of high energy particles. Our power grids are also at risk. We should be fine... MAYBE.

Wireless Companies Want Less Regulation

And the world keeps moving. I'm pretty sure that most people and companies want less regulation to get in the way. Sure, I think the FCC has overstepped its bounds. I thought the FCC was supposed to worry about frequency use? Why are they dabbling into content censorship and such?

I have no idea how the European phone systems work in terms of payments and fees, but the article mentions that growth of text messaging and interoperability. Since that time when texting was cheap/free, we've gone up to 20 cents per message for something that is basically free for the carrier. I'm not saying government regulation is the answer, but I thought price fixing was illegal? Where you see competition work is with the iPhone right now. VZW and AT&T are battling on prices and plans. This is the way it should work.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Consumer Watchdog today welcomed the creation of a new Senate subcommittee on Privacy, Technology and the Law, to be chaired by Sen. Al Franken, D-MI, and urged the panel to hold hearings on the Google Wi-Spy scandal. The nonpartisan, nonprofit public interest group also said the new committee should consider Do Not Track Me legislation.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., said the jurisdiction of the Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology and the Law will include: oversight of laws and policies governing the collection, protection, use, and dissemination of commercial information by the private sector, including online behavioral advertising; privacy within social networking websites and other online privacy issues; enforcement and implementation of commercial information privacy laws and policies; use of technology by the private sector to protect privacy, enhance transparency and encourage innovation; privacy standards for the collection, retention, use and dissemination of personally identifiable commercial information; and privacy implications of new or emerging technologies.

"Online technologies raise a multitude of challenges to consumers' privacy rights and it's important to have a Senate panel specifically charged with confronting those issues," said John M. In the Wi-Spy incident, Google's Street View cars gathered private data from consumers' Wi-Fi networks in more than 30 countries around the world. So far there has been no adequate public explanation from Google of what the Internet giant intended to do with the information. More than 35 state attorneys general and the FCC are investigating. Charges are pending in a number of countries.

Last week Rep. Jackie Speier, D-CA, introduced the HR 654, "Do Not Track Me Online Act."  Sen. Mark Pryor, D-AR, has been considering offering Do Not Track legislation in the Senate.

Many observers believe that privacy may emerge as an area of bi-partisan consensus.  Oklahoma Republican Tom Coburn will serve as the subcommittee's ranking member.  Other Democratic Senators on the panel will include Chuck Schumer of New York, Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island, and Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut.

Before his election to the Senate last November, Blumenthal was attorney general in Connecticut and led the Wi-Spy probe on behalf of the state attorneys general.

In addition to Sen. Coburn, Republican Senators on the subcommittee will include Orrin Hatch of Utah and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.

Consumer Watchdog has been working to protect consumers' online privacy rights and educate them about the issues through its Inside Google Project.     Unlike competing solutions on the market, Ekahau's two new temperature
sensor tags - the TS1 and TS2 - have extended cable probes that can be
installed inside the environment where temperature is being measured, such as
a freezer or refrigerator. The TS1 tag has a single probe, while the TS2 is a
dual-probe tag. Depending on the probe used, the tags' temperature range is
from -200 degrees to +150 degrees Celsius (-328 degrees to +302 degrees
Fahrenheit).

    The HS1 humidity sensor tag includes on-board sensors that measure
relative humidity (RH) ranging up to 100 percent, and temperature ranges of
-40 degrees to +85 degrees Celsius (-40 degrees to +185 degrees Fahrenheit).

    The TS1, TS2 and HS1 tags all offer audible and visual alarm indicators
on the tags themselves and allow for programmable alarm limits and local data
logging. With continuous data logging, the measurement data will not be lost
even in the event of a network outage. All the sensor tags also incorporate
the ability for the sensors to receive acknowledgments from the Ekahau
servers and a smart re-try capability in case of data transmission failures.
