Effort Marks First Aircraft Platform to Receive AMF JTRS Software Defined Radios

WASHINGTON, Oct. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Military users from the Army, Air Force and Navy will be one step closer to realizing secure Internet Protocol based networking as the Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) team begins integration activities of its Airborne and Maritime/Fixed Station Joint Tactical Radio System (AMF JTRS) with the AH-64D Longbow Apache helicopter. This marks the first time an aircraft program begins work on AMF JTRS software defined radio interfaces.

AMF JTRS is an NSA certifiable Type 1 encrypted, Internet Protocol communications network that will connect U.S. Navy, Army and Air Force platforms, enabling joint warfighters to share real-time voice, video and data communications.

"These early integration activities onto the Apache Longbow platform demonstrate the maturity of the AMF JTRS program," said Mark Norris, vice president for Join Tactical Network Solutions with Lockheed Martin's Information Systems & Global Solutions-Defense. "This is a key step in our risk reduction strategy and clears the path for on schedule delivery of the first Engineering Development Model to the Government in January 2011."

Working closely with the Boeing Company in Mesa, Arizona and the U.S. Army Aviation Applied Technology Directorate at Fort Eustis, Virginia, the Lockheed Martin team will continue AMF JTRS integration and testing for the AH-64D.  All efforts are in support of upcoming functional test flights and live fly demonstrations of the Wideband Networking Waveform (WNW). Functional test flights will demonstrate increased bandwidth, increased speed of situational awareness data, and immediate information access from airborne platform sensors to ground based units, supporting distributed video, imagery, and data amongst forward edge combatants.

The Lockheed Martin AMF JTRS team includes BAE Systems, General Dynamics, Northrop Grumman and Raytheon.

Because of the explosive growth of data it is more critical now than ever before that businesses have high-performance cost-effective data management systems.  New DB2 10 database software delivers up to 40 percent performance improvements while also providing 10 times more scalability to manage future growth.  This translates into more efficient use of systems resources and cost savings for System z servers, including the recently introduced zEnterprise System.

It is bouncing all over the internet that Microsoft let slip the release of Windows 8. This was reported in a Dutch Microsoft blog report. And CNets Ina Fried has the report.

While the desktop team has been quiet, Microsoft's server team did say last year that a major release of Windows Server was due in 2012 and server versions typically slightly lag a desktop release.

A presentation leaked in June suggests that the next version of Windows will include, among other things, an app store similar to ones offered by Apple and other mobile device makers. Apple announced this week that it will bring an app store to the Mac within 90 days.

The Aerobahn Predictive Engine uses a proprietary adaptive learning technique with continually received, recent historic surface surveillance information to provide airline and airport users with an accurate projection of activity. These projected actions, such as taxi routes, gate usage and estimated times of arrival/departure, can be viewed up to two hours into the future and are continually updated. The Sensis Predictive Engine supports FAA Surface Collaborative Decision Making (CDM) System and European Airport-CDM requirements. The Engine uses Aerobahn's historic surveillance data and timing information for every aircraft movement on the airport's surface to accurately predict taxi times, determine estimated time of arrivals and departures, when and what gates will be in use and the path the aircraft will most likely use to maneuver around the airport surface. This continually updated information, accessible up to two hours in advance, will enable airport and airline operations personnel to better anticipate key events that impact daily operations, such as peak arrival and departure times, planned gate assignments, ground crew staffing and push-back sequencing according to previous events. The Predictive Engine is scheduled for operational use at Atlanta in the fourth quarter of 2010.

In addition to the Predictive capability, Sensis Aerobahn enables users to observe departure queues, view actual arrival demand and contrast the demand with available gates for arriving aircraft. Further, users can customize the views and maps, such as adding annotations, and use the "picture-in-picture" capability to monitor both a specific area and the entire airport simultaneously. The system can be set to provide users with a visual or email alert when performance thresholds, such as taxi-out times, are met or exceeded. Aerobahn also provides users with the ability to create their own reports, based on numerous variables, for detailed analysis of operations.

Sensis is also deploying at Atlanta a GPS-based vehicle tracking system that leverages an airport-wide wireless communication network for location and identification of vehicles on the airport surface without using the 1090 spectrum. Vehicle position data from the wireless network is seamlessly integrated into Aerobahn's surface surveillance display to provide fully integrated aircraft and vehicle tracking.

Transatlantic Collaboration Launches New International Payments Service

CLEVELAND, October 25, 2010/PRNewswire/ --     The Federal Reserve Banks and Equens have successfully processed the
first automated clearinghouse payments via a new standardized channel for
low-value cross-border payments between the United States and Europe. U.S.
Bank and DZ BANK are the first banks to use this new channel.

    In 2009, the Federal Reserve Banks and Equens announced a strategic
collaboration for the processing of cross-border payments, later extending
this collaboration to include DZ BANK. The effort enables financial
institutions in the United States to send payments in U.S. dollars, Euros and
British pounds to 22 countries across Europe via FedGlobal(R) ACH Payments.
Conversely, banks across Europe can send U.S. dollar payments via Equens to
the United States. DZ BANK serves as the European gateway operator, with
Equens acting as the payment processor.

to support U.S. financial institution efforts to reduce processing costs and
offer cutting-edge services that enable global commerce," said Marie Gooding,
Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta executive vice president and product manager
of the Federal Reserve's Retail Payments Office.

    This new channel for cross-border payments is the first live
implementation of the payments framework of the International Payments
Framework Association (IPFA), a collaborative effort among public and private
payment groups in Africa, Europe, North America and South America to
standardize and make more efficient the transfer of low-value payments around
the world. The Federal Reserve Banks, Equens and U.S. Bank are members of the
IPFA. Two other IPFA members, C2P (Clear2Pay) and SWIFT (Society for
Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication), supported the Reserve
Banks' technological implementation.

    DZ BANK joined the initiative in part because Equens currently processes
cross-border payments in multiple currencies for DZ BANK. Thomas Ullrich,
member of the Board at DZ BANK, said "The new channel is fast and reliable

our customers." According to Michael Steinbach, chairman of Equens' Board of
Directors, "This service fulfils an increasing demand within Europe for the
efficient processing of low-value cross-border payments around the world. It

and currencies."

    The Financial Services Policy Committee

    The Financial Services Policy Committee (FSPC) is responsible for the
overall direction of financial services and related support functions for the
Federal Reserve Banks, as well as for providing Federal Reserve leadership in
dealing with the evolving U.S. payments system. The FSPC is composed of three
Reserve Bank presidents and two Reserve Bank first vice presidents.

BitWackr 2.1 Raises the Bar in Advanced Data Reduction Solutions
