IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Kelley Blue Book http://www.kbb.com, the leading provider of new car and used car information, today announces the launch of its monthly Hot Used-Car Report, featured in the company's Blue Book Market Report. 

Kelley Blue Book's Hot Used-Car Report captures monthly used-car retail shopper activity on kbb.com, including a list of the top and bottom movers in the same time period.  Results are provided by the Kelley Blue Book Market Intelligence Team in an effort to help dealers better understand which used vehicles consumers are looking at most each month.  Utilizing the information in this report could help dealers better manage used inventory, which could lead to increased profits. 

According to the September 2010 report, Minivans experienced the largest decline in share of used-car retail shopper activity, down 15 percent month-over-month.  This decline is driven by the 2009 Toyota Sienna, which dropped 31 percent in share.  Hybrid SUVs saw the greatest increase in share of used-car retail shopper activity, climbing 20 percent month-over-month, spurred by heightened interest in the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid. 

"Consumers seem to be realizing that many hybrid SUVs and crossovers are now entering the used-car market, and these used options may provide a better deal than their new-car counterparts," said Hwei-Lin Oetken, vice president of Market Intelligence for Kelley Blue Book's kbb.com.  "Used-car retail shopping activity on kbb.com also indicates a strong push toward 2008 model-year vehicles, as many of the top vehicles experienced a redesign or launched brand-new for that model year.  Dealers should take notice of hybrid SUVs and 2008 model-year vehicles at auction and trade in."

Security level of one-time password can be enhanced with every push of a button

With its multi-OTP devices, VASCO is responding to existing customers of traditional authentication solutions who have a need to secure additional applications without yet introducing online transaction signing.

DIGIPASS one-button devices providing single one-time passwords (OTP) are ideally suited for user-friendly user authentication. Multi-OTP one-button devices can secure multiple applications with a single authentication device using different OTPs. With every push on the authenticator's button, the security level of the calculated OTP is enhanced.

Multiple OTP for different applications

VASCO positions the multi-OTP devices for the secure use of different applications in banks:

    --  Online banking  (customer logon and payment validation)
    --  Stock trading
    --  Cash retrieval at the ATM
    --  Manage insurance policies

The single one-button authentication device can generate multiple one-time passwords (OTP).  Multi-OTP devices also provide a solution for banks with divisions responsible for certain applications operating in independent legal entities. From a customer interaction perspective, they often want to supply the end-user with only one authentication device, but for internal purposes they require separate security implementations.

Multi-OTP technology also provides a solution for ASPs who have several applications they want to secure with a single DIGIPASS but using different OTPs for different applications.

Multiple OTPs generated by a one-button DIGIPASS

The entire DIGIPASS GO-family, VASCO's range of one-button authentication devices, can be equipped with multi-OTP technology upon customer request. One DIGIPASS will be able to generate up to three different OTPs. The different OTPs will have distinct features such as the length of the OTP and a customized message displayed before the OTP generation, avoiding that the user would present a wrong OTP.

The multi-OTP device operates as follows:

    --  When pressing the one-button device once, the user will obtain an OTP
        which most likely will be used to log-on to the online application.
    --  When pushing the button twice, a customized message will be displayed
        followed by an OTP. This OTP has a different length than the OTP used
        for log-on and could be used as a payment OTP to known or trusted
        accounts.
    --  When pushing the button three times, another customized message and OTP
        will be generated. This third OTP could be an OTP for high risk
        transactions, for instance to validate high value payments or payments
        to unknown accounts.
    --  On the fourth push of the button, the DIGIPASS will be switched off.

Real-time decision on which OTP should be used

Multi-OTP technology allows banks to decide real-time which OTP should be used for which application.  For instance, when executing a high-risk transaction the end-user will be prompted to provide a different OTP than the one he uses for log-in. Hence the multi-OTP devices provide enhanced security compared to traditional one-button devices. A different OTP is used for log-in and payment validation; a specific OTP is used for transactions to known accounts, thus minimizing fraudulent transactions; and minimizing the risk for man-in-the-middle attacks to happen considering the end-user will have to be convinced to provide a high risk OTP.

Sony's Insanity Continues.

That silly "unauthorized controllers may explode so we don't support them" crap Sony talked about the other day? Apparently that was Sony legalese for "we are going to intentionally disable third-party controllers that we don't like." Fantastic, Sony. I feel much safer.

Owners of various PS3 peripherals, including (but not limited to) the Yobo PS3 Joybox, the XCM Cross Battle Plus Adapter and the SplitFish FragFX, are reporting compatibility issues after the release of PS3 firmware 3.50. Some conspiracy theorists believe the rampant failure of these devices is linked to Sony's ongoing battle to circumvent further use of the PS3 jailbreak, which requires a USB tool to activate.

1UP suggests that this issue may be a side effect of Sony's discovery (and subsequent disabling) of "counterfeit" PS3 controllers. A recent consumer alert on Sony's official website states that "SCEA does not support continued functionality of counterfeit or unlicensed controllers in system software updates and these devices may cease to function in the future because of system software updates."

The 1UP report adds that "no third-party controllers that are officially licensed by Sony" have been disabled in the latest update. Considering the affected devices haven't been officially licensed, it's unlikely that a fix will be offered. A SCEA representative told us that "SCE does not support continued functionality of unlicensed controllers."

That third paragraph is incorrect, by the way.

Sony, who designed the PS3 with a deliberately open standard for USB devices so the system would support PC peripherals, apparently have decided that going completely full-blown crazy in their overreactions to things they don't like is the way to go. I'm starting to wish Sony never offered any of this extra freedom over the 360 in the first place if they were going to remove it in the future.




Of course, something to keep in mind is that it is entirely possible that this was an accident, but I personally doubt it.

Professional Tennis Enters 3D Era

During the two weeks of tennis at the US Open, center court matches during both weekends were broadcast in 3D on DIRECTV's n3D(TM) powered by Panasonic - a linear channel dedicated exclusively to 3D programming and viewable on 3D television sets including Panasonic's line of award-winning VIERA Full HD 3D TVs.  n3D is one of DIRECTV's three separate all-3D channels which launched June 30, sponsored by Panasonic to deliver even more 3D sports, entertainment, documentary and other programming to DIRECTV's HD subscribers.

Blockbuster Files Chapter 11

Netflix is handily defeating Blockbuster by providing a better service for less expense. Blockbuster tried to compete by releasing its own streaming service, but it was plagued with shoddy service and high costs. We'll see if Blockbuster can emerge from Chapter 11.

The 25-year-old company filed for bankruptcy yesterday in New York after losing sales to Netflix Inc.’s Web and mail-order movie service and Coinstar Inc.’s Redbox DVD rental kiosks. Revenue dropped 20 percent to $4.06 billion last year, when Dallas-based Blockbuster reported a $558.2 million net loss.

As of Aug. 29, Blockbuster had about 5,600 stores worldwide, including 3,300 in the U.S., according to court papers. Michael Pachter, an analyst at Wedbush Morgan Securities in Los Angeles, said the company may have to cut U.S. locations to about 2,000 to increase annual sales per store to at least $1 million. In 2002, that figure stood at $1.1 million, he said.

“No one can predict what the market will look like for them going forward as Netflix and Redbox continue to take market share, so they are shooting in the dark,” Pachter said. The company will also face pressure to cut stores from “a new class of shareholder wanting to see cash increasing in a hurry,” he said.

In the past two years, Blockbuster has closed 1,061 U.S. company-operated stores, according to a court document. All its U.S. operations, including stores, DVD vending kiosks, mail and digital, will continue to operate normally, the company said.

Netflix Becoming The New Cable

NBC is adding more content to Netflix streaming service. In a few years, we'll all get a single internet connection with no other added services (like phone or TV). Everything will be done over IP. It actually is right now, but you are being charged for the service provided at an exceptional rate. Even I'm doing that as well, though.

Under the new arrangement, "hundreds" of "Saturday Night Live" episodes from the past 35 years, as well as "day-after broadcast" of the show's next three seasons, will be available on Netflix Instant Streaming. NBC is also offering every previous-season episode of "30 Rock," "The Office," and "Law & Order: SVU." Earlier seasons of those shows already on Netflix will still be available. All episodes of the venerable SyFy series "Battlestar Galactica" will also be available on the service. NBC Universal and Netflix said that "Monk" and "Friday Night Lights," among many other shows, will also be included in the expanded relationship between the companies.

Nintendo Readies Wii Remote Plus?

It was bound to happen when they released the MotionPlus add-on for the Remote. People asked, "why not build this into the Remote?" Nyko even has a product that does just that. It is called the Wand+ and is a third-party add-on for the Wii. We hope to get one for review soon.

We played FlingSmash in February of this year and quite enjoyed it, as our First Impressions show, but its projected release date of Summer 2010 has been and gone without the game hitting shelves. Now retailer Gamestop has released boxart of the game showing the game is set to be bundled with a Remote, seemingly containing MotionPlus built-in.

Titled "Wii Remote Plus", the controller itself looks only slightly different, with a slight curve below the four lights the only alteration visible at this resolution. As FlingSmash requires MotionPlus this is obviously a new controller containing the add-on, but could the game's delay have been caused by the newly developed Remote?

The new site improves coverage and capacity along Route 212 from the Village of Veteran to the Village of Woodstock, and provides new coverage to portions of County Route 35.

The company's "Retail Revolution" showrooms, for example, treat customers to an upscale lounge with comfortable seating, refreshments and the ability to browse the Web from PCs stationed at several kiosks.

MOORPARK, Calif., Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- SunBriteTV, the pioneer in LCD televisions designed for outdoor installation, has announced that it will introduce its new 22-inch Model 2220HD all-weather outdoor display and color options for the existing product line at CEDIA EXPO 2010, September 23-26, 2010, in Booth #2448. Model 2220HD will be available October 15, 2010, with an expected MSRP of $2095.

"Great things do come in smaller packages," says Lynn Stearn, SunBriteTV's Vice President of sales and marketing. "Model 2220HD is designed to meet the needs of CEDIA dealers who are looking for multi-room integration for the up-close-and-personal viewing areas, such as the barbecue, for the spa or any other commercial and residential applications with space restrictions."

Model 2220HD is a 22-inch 1386 x 768 pixel HD LCD TV. The corrosion-resistant, powder-coated aluminum exterior protects the internal TV components from rain, dirt, insects and extreme weather conditions.

With the company's proprietary Multi-Fan Airflow System, the TV remains cool and safe in temperatures up to 122 degrees. With variable fan-speed controlled by the TVs internal thermostat, increased cooling is provided as needed, therefore keeping fan noise to a minimum. The TV's thermostatically-controlled heater activates automatically to control condensation and allows the TV to safely remains outdoors in temperatures as low as -24 degrees F.

The 22-inch HD LCD screen displays a bright 1366 x 768 pixel image 2500:1 contrast ratio. The anti-reflective, impact- and scratch-resistant window built into the exterior protects the LCD screen while reducing glare and improving picture quality.

SunBriteTV's innovative watertight cable entry system and cable pass-through design ensures quick and easy hook-up to a wide selection of video inputs, including two HDMI connections, component, VGA, S-video, composite, RF, RS232 serial and the discreet IR control.

Model 2220HD includes two choices to simplify integration with control systems. RS232 serial is a full-featured command set with discrete on/off input select and volume control, and discrete IR control, provides codes for power on/off and input select. Furthermore, the TV is equipped with a water-resistant detachable speaker module that can to be removed when the TV is integrated with an external sound system.

Model 2220HD will also accommodate SunBriteTV's Internal Media Compartment. This in-factory upgrade customizes the TV to accommodate the Cisco Digital media Player or Enseo hospitality tuners with Pro:Idiom technology (media players and hospitality tuners are available through their respective companies) in the TV's watertight cable compartment. Once the media player or tuner is installed and the door is closed, the media is completely sheltered and safeguarded by the company's all-weather feature- set. The Internal Media Compartment upgrade is already being used in professional and college stadiums and hotels across the company, and is available with Models, 3220HD, 4610HD and 5510HD.
