Four New Tools Integrate Video into the Browsing Experience for Internet Explorer 8 Users
SAN FRANCISCO, June 9 -- blinkx, the world's largest and most advanced video search engine, today launched four custom browser "add-ons" that will turn everyday Internet browsing into a true video experience for Windows Internet Explorer 8 users.
"Together or separately, these four add-ons will change the way users interact with blinkx.com, their Internet Explorer 8 browser and video on the Web," said Suranga Chandratillake, founder and CEO, blinkx. "As the Web moves increasingly towards video, our goal is to make finding that video as simple, seamless and integrated a process as possible."
"Microsoft is pleased blinkx was able to customize useful tools such as Web Slices, Accelerators and Visual Search for its site visitors who are using Internet Explorer 8," said Rob Pulciani, senior marketing manager in the Microsoft U.S. Business and Marketing Organization. "These options allow the blinkx community to enjoy the benefits of the content from blinkx.com from anywhere on the Web."
Visual Search and the blinkx Accelerator offer users immediate, integrated access to blinkx's massive library of over 35 million hours of video, conveniently built into the browser, while two distinct blinkx Remote Web Slices give entertainment lovers instant access to their top shows and movies, right from their Internet Explorer 8 Favorites Bar.
-- blinkx Visual Search: an add-on that makes the Web's largest video
index searchable from the Internet Explorer 8 search bar, without ever
leaving the page you're on. Once added to Internet Explorer 8, blinkx
instantly displays matching video previews in a drop-down menu as a
term is typed into the browser search bar. If you want to see more
video choices, one click loads the blinkx results page for a
comprehensive list of videos matching your search. All the convenience
of a browser search, but with results you can watch.
-- blinkx Accelerator: a unique new way of finding videos about anything
that catches your eye on the Web, whether it's a politician who just
made a terrible gaffe or a place you're dying to visit. After
highlighting a piece of text on a Web page, you can simply click on
the blue Accelerator icon that appears next to the text and the blinkx
Accelerator will show you video results most closely related to the
highlighted text. No need to enter a separate search, this new tool
allows you to delve deeper into any subject and experience it in video
with one click.
-- blinkx Remote TV Search Slice: a drop-down blinkx Remote that makes it
easy to search for any TV show or movie, right from your Internet
Explorer 8 Favorites Bar. The green Web Slice icon in the Command Bar
lets a user subscribe to this feature and gain quick, instant access
to a blinkx Remote mini-site, which displays every TV show available
and the link to watch it in a new tab, turning your Favorites Bar into
a virtual remote control that never gets lost in the couch cushions.
-- blinkx Remote TV Episode Slice: a convenient add-on to fit your
personal TV obsession. Gaga for "Grey's Anatomy"? Hooked on "How I Met
Your Mother"? Never miss an episode again with this specialized Web
Slice for the Internet Explorer 8 Favorites Bar. Available for any
show on blinkx Remote and updated in real-time, a drop-down mini-site
displays every episode of the series available to watch and even
indicates which ones are new. Waste less time scouring the Web for
this week's new episodes and more time actually watching them.

Toshiba's Carbon-Free Printing Makes Kenyan Cooking More Sustainable
CHERTSEY, England, June 1, 2010--
- With Photo
Businesses that are concerned about the environmental impact of their
office equipment can now print and copy documents carbon-free, following
Toshiba TEC Imaging's decision to roll out a carbon offsetting initiative
across the UK and Ireland.
After a successful pilot programme last year, carbon emissions produced
during the design, manufacture, distribution and everyday use of Toshiba
multi-function printers (MFPs) in the UK can now be offset through a scheme
that helps villagers in Kenya reduce their own carbon footprint. Even the
paper and toner that the MFPs use is offset.
The African Energy Efficient Stove project, which is run through an
independent British organisation called CO2balance, supplies domestic stoves
that cut the use of firewood by more than half. Each cooker typically
prevents three tonnes of CO2 emissions every year - equivalent to the
emissions produced by an average UK car doing 9,000 miles a year.
Four thousand Kenyan households have already switched to this energy
efficient method of cooking thanks to Toshiba carbon-free MFPs - and the
scheme's success means that 30,000 stoves could be installed by the end of
this year. Combined with further innovations in the products themselves it
means that carbon savings are made in both the UK and in Africa.
Installing the more efficient stoves doesn't just benefit the
environment: it also helps reduces the 1.6 million deaths each year that the
World Health Association identifies as associated with smoke inhalation. In
fact, the WHO states that cooking on an inefficient '3-stone fire' is the
equivalent of smoking 2 packets of cigarettes a day.
A package of energy-saving measures
As environmental considerations are already built in to Toshiba's
products, the MFP Carbon zero scheme is just one part of the company's
commitment to social and environmental concerns. Toshiba MFPs already feature
cutting-edge functionality that helps users reduce their environmental
impact.
Nonetheless, however seriously organisations take their environmental
responsibilities, some level of CO2 emissions are the inevitable consequence
of the manufacture, design and use of office products. Toshiba's carbon zero
programme allows customers to offset such emissions in full, including
servicing and consumables, for five years of the product's life, or one
million copies.
Beyond carbon emissions
Steve Hewson, Marketing Director for Toshiba TEC Imaging says: "Most
organisations these days would claim to care about their social or
environmental impact, but even the practical ways they try to achieve their
ambitions - by recycling, or encouraging employees not to print documents
unnecessarily - can only go so far. If you truly care about running a greener
office, cutting your costs and helping the environment, you have to make sure
the products you use have sustainability 'built in' and that any residual CO2
emissions are offset - completely."
"The African Energy Efficient Stove project delivers savings on two
continents and means that as well as contributing to your own environmental
efforts, you can make a very real difference to the lives of people in East
Africa."

Professional Hospital Supply Achieves Unmatched Wi-Fi Functionality with Xirrus
Medical Supplier Improves TVM and ROI with Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays, Distributing Network Intelligence to the Edge while Maintaining Central Management
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., June 9 -- Xirrus®, the leader in High Performance Wi-Fi that delivers the most coverage, bandwidth, and user density in the industry, announced today the deployment of Xirrus high performance 802.11n Wi-Fi Arrays at Professional Hospital Supply (PHS) headquartered in Temecula, California. With seven buildings spread throughout California, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, and Utah, Xirrus was the obvious choice for PHS as they required the fewest number of devices while still offering a central management system to control all Arrays from a single location.
Dave House, Vice President of Information Systems at PHS explains why Xirrus offered a better solution than the competitors, "We looked around and decided upon Xirrus for a number of reasons, primarily the number of access points needed to cover our warehouses. We had another building where we were using a different Wi-Fi vendor. When we sat down and did the comparison between our legacy solution and the Xirrus Wi-Fi Array platform, we found that we'd have to purchase quite a few less access points with Xirrus than the competition - almost a two to one ratio. This meant half the switch ports, cable runs, and devices to install and manage."
Dave continues by explaining yet another reason Xirrus was the best vendor for the job, "We have a value-added reseller who we are closely aligned with and they had installed Xirrus Arrays in a number of other warehouses similar to ours. We were able to go out there and look at their deployments and were very impressed with what other people had to say about the Xirrus equipment - and they were right, the Arrays work very well."
"In configuring the Arrays we could do it from our corporate office and administer to the Arrays at all of our other facilities without having to send someone out there," added Dave. "The remote administration was a big tool for us in the other facilities and we still have four more facilities that we'll be deploying Xirrus in so central management and ease of configuration was a big reason for choosing Xirrus."
Xirrus, Inc., the leader in High Performance Wi-Fi, manufactures the only fully distributed, dense radio Wi-Fi architecture available in the industry today. The innovative Xirrus architecture delivers unmatched RF innovation and wireless performance on a per access point and system-wide basis, yet requires fewer devices, switch ports, cabling with less effort to implement and maintain than traditional offerings, thereby accelerating Time-to-Value. Xirrus manufactures its products in the USA and is Wi-Fi Alliance, Verisign, PCI, FIPS 140-2, and ISO 9001:2008 certified. For more information, please visit http://www.xirrus.com.

World's First Application of Flexible OLED on Foil
EINDHOVEN, The Netherlands, June 9, 2010--
- Holst Centre OLED in Le Mans Race Car Mirror
In this year's 24 hours Le Mans race (June 12-13), the ORECA01 car from
French racing team Oreca will be using rear view mirrors with an integrated
Flexible Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) on the back. Since flexible
OLEDs will only be available on the market (and in our homes) within a few
years, the initiators of the project - Huntsman Advanced Materials and Holst
Centre - consider the integration in the composite material of the race car
as a great success.
OLEDs are paper-thin, lightweight devices consuming up to 70% less energy
compared to conventional light sources, making them prime candidates for the
next generation of lighting. Before flexible OLEDs can be commercialized,
there are some research challenges to be solved. OLEDs are sensitive to
moisture and oxygen, and had to be protected in order to maintain a long
lifetime. The success of the OLED integration in the car is dependent on the
encapsulation technology and Araldite(R) composite materials of Huntsman
Advanced Materials.
The OLED itself displays the logo Araldite(R) - a brand that belongs to
Huntsman - and was provided by Holst Centre. Holst Centre and its partners
are amongst the very few who are already able to make flexible OLED lighting
and signage devices. In the field of encapsulation technology and moist
barriers for flexible electronic devices, Holst Centre and its partners are
probably even ahead of all competition. Part of the research was conducted
within the European FP7 program Fast2Light, coordinated by Holst Centre.

NEW YORK, June 9 -- Indulge and associate yourself now with the latest feature "Connect" added to the 123Greetings.com website. 123Greetings.com, one of the world's largest ecard site makes it their business to keep people connected and send ecards easily, which is what makes this latest feature so exciting!
On the bottom right hand side of the 123Greetings.com website is a new "123Greetings Connect" box, which is set to enhance the user experience. By signing up with Connect at http://www.123greetings.com/connect/ users have the ability to import and store unlimited contacts from Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, Hotmail, Outlook Express, etc., making access to their personal Address Book from anywhere in the world. Once the contacts are in the Address Book, users can easily set their contacts' birthdays.
Users can then start receiving alerts before a contact's birthday so that they never miss out on wishing their friends or family members. Birthday reminders are sent through emails maximum 14 days before and minimum 1 day before, and also on the day of birthday. With this ideal "Birthday Reminder" service Connect becomes a portal where users can not only store contacts and their birthdays, but also wish them by getting reminders and by scheduling attractive ecards. Likewise, Connect will soon introduce "Event Reminder" service so that users can receive reminders for events such as Friendship Day, Father's Day, Positive Thinking Day, etc. Dates of many such events change every year, and the "Event Reminder" service would allow users to capitalize on those opportunities to communicate with friends and family.
When a contact is added to the Address Book, the contact gets an invitation through an email to join the user on Connect. By accepting the request, the contact becomes a "friend" of the user. An activity stream is then created as Connect displays feeds when friends send ecards or add new friends. Furthermore, through Connect's advanced tracking system, users can not only see the exact status of the ecards that they have sent in the last 30 days, but also edit or delete ecards that have not been viewed. Uploading photos on profiles also makes the experience intriguing.
"Connect lets users set up connections with boundless number of friends from all over the globe and endless gamut of activities. With all the email addresses already fed in, coupled with our powerful reminder service, we believe our users will find this new experience thrilling and gratifying," says Arvind Kajaria, co-founder of 123Greetings.com.
Finally, the best part is that the entire 123Greetings Connect service is offered for free!

Microsoft Opens Software and Services Excellence Center
Cooperation with more than 100 hardware manufacturers to create cloud-computing business opportunities.
TAIPEI, Taiwan, June 8 -- Steve Guggenheimer, corporate vice president of the Original Equipment Manufacturer Division at Microsoft Corp., announced the official opening of the Microsoft Software and Services Excellence Center (SSEC).
The objective of the center is to advance the potential of cloud computing across devices, in the datacenter and within new industries -- all topics Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer addressed when he visited Taiwan last year. Via the SSEC, Microsoft combines its research and development (R&D) expertise and technology leadership in software, services and cloud datacenter technologies with Taiwan's global leadership in hardware innovation to create next-generation connected devices and cloud datacenters, creating new business opportunities for Microsoft and its partners. Moreover, Microsoft will license patents from its industry-leading portfolio and share its software development expertise with academic and R&D institutes in Taiwan to help strengthen the software and services technologies for the Taiwan Information and Communication Technology (ICT) ecosystem.
"Over the past two decades, hardware manufacturers in Taiwan have established their global leadership in PCs, netbooks, cell phones, LCDs and other IT technologies, which is important for the global ICT industry," said Guggenheimer, who helped celebrate the center's opening. "The opening of the SSEC is a significant milestone for Microsoft and its hardware partners in our collaboration for the development of additional business opportunities in the era of cloud computing."
"Cloud computing services are a strategic industry that the government is promoting, and the Microsoft Software and Services Excellence Center will expedite the development of the Taiwan ICT industry toward cloud services," said Wu Ming-Ji, director general, Department of Industrial Technology, Ministry of Economic Affairs. "The Taiwan ICT industry will be able to bring in the most advanced software technologies, as well as cloud datacenter implementation experience from Microsoft to integrate them with the existing system and R&D resources provided by the government. This will not only strengthen the existing competitiveness of the Taiwan hardware industry but also develop new business opportunities from cloud services. We believe that the integration of existing government resources with innovations provided by Microsoft is going to help upgrade the Taiwan hardware industry, which will be even more successful in the era of cloud computing."
The Microsoft SSEC commenced cooperation with many Taiwan companies long before its opening. Already, there are significant initial achievements with Quanta Computer Inc., Delta Electronics Inc. and Compal Electronics Inc. In the next three years, more than 100 Taiwan ICT companies are expected to participate in developing cloud computing solutions.
"I am pleased to announce our three-way research collaboration between Quanta Computer, Delta Electronics and Microsoft Research's eXtreme Computing Group to create a new generation of cloud servers," said Dan Reed, corporate vice president, eXtreme Computing Group, Microsoft Corp. "The collaboration creates a unique opportunity to bring together leading-edge hardware with new software concepts to enable fundamental breakthroughs."
The first prototype cloud server from the collaboration will be deployed at the SSEC later this year.
"Cloud computing is a mega-trend in our industry. The Microsoft SSEC is an important milestone for Taiwan's bourgeoning efforts in cloud computing. This center will allow Compal to work closely with Microsoft to build next-generation products and solutions with advanced user experiences and cloud-based services and explore the potential of private and public cloud scenarios," said Ray Chen, CEO of Innovation Center, Compal Electronics.
At the opening ceremony, Guggenheimer discussed Microsoft's cloud computing strategy and its efforts to provide hardware partners with opportunities to build on its expertise across both client and datacenter assets. In support of the new SSEC opening, Guggenheimer outlined how Microsoft will take its own expertise in datacenter technology, from running some of the largest datacenters in the world and from its server technologies, which now run 75 percent of the world's X86 servers to help hardware manufacturers build container solutions in support of cloud computing.
The Microsoft SSEC has these three goals:
-- System software for cloud datacenters. The SSEC covers cloud
datacenter management and data load planning, container-based computer
specifications, and cloud datacenter management guidelines and
paradigms.
-- Smart devices for cloud computing. The SSEC includes natural
interfaces for next- generation PCs and other devices, system software
for smart Internet-access devices, and system software for seamless
cross-platform integration.
-- Technology transfer and R&D sharing. The SSEC will have annual
announcements of leading-edge software technologies, cooperative
efforts with academia, and individual project-based patent licensing
and transfers.
Founded in 1975, Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) is the worldwide leader in software, services and solutions that help people and businesses realize their full potential.

iVdopia Launches the First HTML5 Ad-Authoring Solution: the Future5
While Apple overcharges for the iAd, iVdopia delivers the affordable, customizable technology that creates a Flash-like video ad experience on the iPhone and the iPad
SAN JOSE, Calif., June 8 -- iVdopia (http://www.ivdopia.com), the largest video and rich media mobile advertising network, today announced the launch of the Future5, the first HTML5 ad-authoring solution available for the iPhone and iPad. This innovation from the mobile ad pioneers empowers advertisers to create and customize HTML5 iPhone and iPad ads, without having to pay the premium of $1 million per iAd campaign.
As Apple blocks the use of Flash on the iPhone and iPad, many advertisers and agencies that rely on the language are finding themselves locked out because of their inability to work in HTML5. As a result, they face the unappetizing option of having to spend $1 million on an iAd campaign to advertise on the Apple devices. iVdopia's Future5 is an affordable alternative that allows advertisers to choose from a variety of ad format templates to create specialized, even unique effects in HTML5 that can be customized and combined with the advertiser's image, video or audio clip to deliver dynamic results. These highly engaging and interactive ad units allow users to not just watch the video ad, but also visit the product's website, watch additional clips, play games, share across Twitter and Facebook or download content, among other options. Future5 is also available for Android.
"As leaders in mobile advertising, iVdopia has witnessed how advertisers are eager to capitalize on dynamic ad units, but are reeling from the $1 million cost of the iAd," said iVdopia Chief Operating Officer Chhavi Upadhyay. "iVdopia's Future5 makes Flash-like mobile ads possible with a revolutionary, easy-to-use HTML ad-authoring technology that gives advertisers what they have been waiting for - a more versatile, far more affordable alternative to the iAd."
With its launch in March 2009, iVdopia introduced the first mobile ads that let users stay within the application - more than a year before the iAd is scheduled to make that feature available in July 2010. iVdopia also introduced the first social media ads for mobile with Talk2Me; the first high-def ads on the iPad; and the Viper Ads, which deliver a new level of user engagement for ads on the iPhone and the iPad.
"We understand that almost every brand and advertiser out there wants to connect with the growing mobile audience of more than 60 million Americans," said Saurabh Bhatia, iVdopia co-founder and Chief Business Officer. "In a market where more than an estimated $3.8 billion will be spent annually on advertising, the current ad options are way too expensive, or just can't be customized enough to fit advertiser needs. iVdopia brings the best of both worlds to such advertisers - mobile technology innovation, without the bloated Apple price tag."
About iVdopia
iVdopia is the largest video and rich media mobile advertising network, pioneering rich media and video advertising on smart phones, including Pre-App video and social networking options on smart mobile devices, and high-definition video ads for the iPad. iVdopia's brand-centric mobile advertising network and platform is used by top developers and brands such as Coca-Cola, Universal Studios, Warner Brothers and Miller Lite to deliver premium advertising campaigns.
The holding company Vdopia Inc. is the fastest growing, venture-funded advertising technology company focused exclusively on premium audiences in the world. The privately held, venture-backed company is headquartered in Silicon Valley and has offices in San Jose and Los Angeles, CA, New York, NY, Chicago, IL, and Gurgaon and Mumbai, India.

NASCAR Race Fans to Benefit from Verizon Wireless Network Boost at Michigan International Speedway
BROOKLYN, Mich., June 8 -- Verizon Wireless has activated a temporary cell site to improve its voice and data network around the Michigan International Speedway (MIS) in Brooklyn and to accommodate the hundreds of thousands of NASCAR fans attending races and related events at the speedway this summer.
The company has deployed a Cell on Light Truck (COLT) to boost capacity in the area surrounding the racetrack. A COLT is a fully functional, generator-powered mobile cell site that enhances wireless capacity in a specific location -- and works especially well in dense areas with large crowds.
Additionally, Verizon Wireless has upgraded equipment on its existing cell sites in the area that provide coverage in and around MIS. The company's upgrades and the COLT will boost voice capacity by 300% and data capacity by more than 500%. These improvements enable more customers to use their wireless phones concurrently to make calls; send and receive email and text, picture and video messages; access the Internet; view high-quality videos; and download music, games and ringtones, while enjoying clearer reception and fewer dropped calls.
"Sports fans are passionate about sharing their experience with friends and family via Facebook posts, picture messages and other forms of wireless communication," said Greg Haller, president-Michigan/Indiana/Kentucky Region, Verizon Wireless. "These improvements help ensure our customers who visit MIS this summer can make their calls and stay connected, send their emails and upload their photos and videos to their favorite social networking sites."
On-site network improvements, including the enhanced coverage around MIS, are part of Verizon Wireless' continual efforts to expand coverage, improve capacity and enhance the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Michigan and throughout the country.
Verizon Wireless has invested more than $59 billion since it was formed -- $5.7 billion on average every year -- to increase the coverage and capacity of its premier nationwide network and to add new services. Since the company was formed in 2000, Verizon Wireless has invested more than $1.4 billion on improvements to its wireless network in Michigan.

Celeros Announces Next-Generation SAS-2 Storage Platforms With Double the Performance
MENLO PARK, Calif., June 8 -- Celeros, the leading provider of full featured storage appliances, has announced its Next-Generation storage platforms based on SAS-2 and the latest innovations in processor and interconnect technologies for EzSAN, EzNAS, and EzSANFiler lines of products. With the introduction of new SAS-2 platforms, the company is poised to rewrite the rules for enterprise storage price, performance and capacity tradeoffs once again.
Celeros has combined the latest hardware advancements in every aspect of the storage platform to bring to market new storage appliances that deliver a better than 2X performance enhancement. High speed backplanes utilizing the latest generation of SAS-2 components, and latest incarnation of processor, memory, and interconnect technologies (Nehalem, DDR3, PCIe 2.0) comprise the building blocks of these highly reliable platforms built for the most demanding data center environments. Combined with the 6.0Gbs SAS-2 enabled enterprise class disk and SSD drives, these platforms are delivering near Giga Bytes per Second (1GBs) read/write throughput under industry standard (IOMeter) testing.
"As demand for capacity, speed, and reliability in complex virtualized environments with mission critical applications rises relentlessly, IT professionals find it increasingly challenging to satisfy these demands in a cost effective way and within budgets, especially in the current economic climate," said Hossein Alaee, CEO and founder of Celeros Corporation. National Safety Council Supports Distracted Driving Prevention Act
Act provides incentive grants to states that adopt a ban on texting and handheld cell phone use for all drivers and a total cell phone ban for drivers younger than 18.
ITASCA, Ill., June 8 -- The National Safety Council today announced its support for the Distracted Driving Prevention Act. The legislation, introduced by Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV), would provide incentive grants to states that adopt a ban on texting and handheld cell phone use for all drivers and a total ban on cell phone use by drivers younger than 18.
In addition to restricting cell phone use by motorists, the bill also would create two high-visibility education and advertising campaigns, administered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, to educate motorists about the dangers of texting and cell phone use while driving. The bill would require the Federal Communications Commission to collect data regarding wireless devices and existing and developing wireless communications technologies that have the potential to reduce the dangers of distracted driving.
"This is a major step in the right direction. We appreciate Chairman Rockefeller's leadership in introducing the legislation and bringing it up for a vote in the Senate Commerce Committee. This legislation will help save lives," said Janet Froetscher, NSC President and CEO. "We ask that committee members support the legislation and call on the Senate to quickly take up and pass the legislation," continued Froetscher.
The National Safety Council was the first national organization to call for a total ban on cell phone use while driving. Since its call for a ban more than a year ago, NSC has worked to educate business leaders, elected officials and others about the dangers of distracted driving.
The National Safety Council (http://www.nsc.org) saves lives by preventing injuries and deaths at work, in homes and communities, and on the roads through leadership, research, education and advocacy.
New Metrics Tool from Teradata and Ventraq Gives Carriers the Edge in Identifying Issues that Cause Customer Dissatisfaction
When the phone is so much more, understanding how well it works is critical to retaining happy customers
DAYTON, Ohio, June 8 -- Teradata Corporation (NYSE:TDC), the world's largest company solely focused on data warehousing and enterprise analytics, today introduced the Teradata Customer Experience Management solution that shows communications service providers their subscribers' perspective of their service. It is the latest addition to the Teradata Telco Analytics with Ventraq suite of applications.
The new solution relies on the Ventraq Customer Experience Analytics applications running on the Teradata Purpose-Built Platform Family. Historically, carrier analytical tools have largely focused on network performance and costs, and have not analyzed other factors that are most likely to cause customer dissatisfaction.
"As people move away from land lines and adopt their wireless device for more uses, reliability becomes critical to them and that all aspects of the network perform flawlessly," said David Grant, vice president of industry marketing and solutions, Teradata Corporation. "Customer satisfaction is largely based on the quality of service, frequency of dropped calls, Internet access time and handset performance. Before now, carriers have not had analytical tools to pinpoint issues that can cause customers to be dissatisfied and potentially, to leave."
Teradata Customer Experience Management quantitatively measures a subscriber's entire experience -- voice, text, Internet and email transactions -- with the operator's products, services, applications, and network. This information can be used to identify the root cause of network, application and handset problems and trace them to affected subscribers. It can also reduce support costs by preempting potential dissatisfaction and prioritize corrective actions based on customer profitability. "A one percent increase in customer loyalty can add as much as $10 million to the bottom line of a mid-sized company," said Grant.
Teradata Customer Experience Management also provides communications service providers visibility into the profitability of their customers and the services they use. With this information, they can better match new product and service offers to customers, and identify their most valuable customers.
Said Bob Becklund, executive vice president of business development for Ventraq, "The Ventraq Customer Experience Management solution running on a Teradata platform allows the carrier to directly understand, adjust and enhance the customer experience for voice, data, and their mobile Internet to create an optimal and positive experience. With the proliferation of SmartPhones, the increase and availability of mobile applications, the customer experience is more critical than ever. Now telecommunications companies can monitor and react to situations that impact customers faster and with greater precision."
The Ventraq-designed solution leverages the power of Teradata to scale seamlessly from local or regional operations to national and multi-national levels. Driven by the high-performance speed and capacity of the massively parallel processing Teradata database, the core of the Ventraq analytic suite of solutions is the advanced Ventraq platform, Business Integration Appliance Services. It collects and manages billions of operations support system and business support system data records and compares and analyzes them on a record-for-record basis on demand. As a result, communication service providers can make business decisions based on a complete set of data rather than on trend or directional inference.

Doremi's Dimension-3D Format Converter Now Supports Frame Packing
HDMI 1.4 3D Specification Implemented Into Dimension's Latest Firmware Release
BURBANK, Calif., June 8 -- Doremi Labs Inc., a leading broadcast and digital cinema hardware manufacturer today announced the implementation of Frame Packing 3D support on the Dimension-3D. Frame Packing is defined in HDMI 1.4 as the standard format for Blu-ray 3D playback and all new consumer 3D TVs now hitting the market will have Frame Packing support.
The Dimension-3D was introduced in late 2009 and instantly became one of Doremi's most popular broadcast hardware devices. An ideal device for use in postproduction, live events, and theme parks, the Dimension-3D is a compact, versatile format converter that converts any 3D format to another as well as changing of the frame rates.
Frame Packing does not apply any scaling to the left and right eye images like Side/Side and Top/Bottom, so the 3D quality is comparable to Dual Stream HD-SDI. Adding this support further broadens the Dimension-3D's versatility in the stereoscopic workflow as the demand for 3D content becomes more and more prevalent. Recently, the Dimension-3D was included in the workflow for the live 3D broadcasts of India Premier League Cricket and will also play a part in the upcoming 2010 World Cup Soccer live 3D broadcasts from South Africa.
Implementing frame packing as defined by the HDMI specifications into the Dimension-3D facilitates interoperability among 3D devices.

Continental Forges Technology Alliance with Six Partners and Demonstrates AutoLinQ(TM) Apps
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., June 8 -- Continental today announced AutoLinQ(TM) development alliances with technology partners including Deutsche Telekom, INRIX, Navigon, NAVTEQ, Pandora and Ygomi. At the Telematics Detroit 2010 conference, Continental is featuring an AutoLinQ(TM) demonstration vehicle that includes select applications designed in collaboration with its partners to make driving safer, more eco-friendly and convenient.
"Continental's AutoLinQ platform is attracting some of the biggest names in the Telematics and consumer electronics industry," said Brian Droessler, vice president of strategy and portfolio for Continental's Infotainment and Connectivity Business Unit. "One of Continental's goals for its AutoLinQ platform is to forge technology alliances with companies, and the Android developer community, to provide drivers with access to new information and content that is relevant to the driving experience."
The demonstration vehicle on the show floor of the Telematics Detroit conference and exhibition is a clear example of how the car of the future will be connected. With the press of a button, or via a spoken command, a vehicle owner is able to connect to what matters in their life.
Zero or One Click Human Machine Interface Strategy
Continental is exploring intuitive human machine interface (HMI) strategies for its AutoLinQ demonstration vehicles. The company is testing several user interfaces to achieve its goal of a zero, or one-click, operation of applications and functions inside the car. The display inside the AutoLinQ demonstration vehicle includes large icons to provide drivers and passengers with easy access to radio, media, navigation, applications and other settings. Content can be accessed and controlled through a touch screen display, steering wheel controls, voice recognition and text-to-speech technology. Current features and applications inside the demo vehicle include:
Deutsche Telekom Connects Drivers to Personalized Content and Information
Continental has partnered with Deutsche Telekom to wirelessly connect the car to a high-speed wireless network. Through a secure connection, Continental's AutoLinQ platform connects the car to servers, online services and wireless infrastructure. Through the connection, vehicle occupants can download the following applications developed by Deutsche Telekom:
At the touch of a button, a driver can download e-mails, sync the information to the car and have it broadcast through the audio system via text-to-speech technology. Drivers are able to respond to e-mails by recording audio messages.
Drivers also can remain current by accessing the latest news from online websites, personal RSS feeds or other social networking sites. The personalized news reports and information also is broadcast through the vehicle audio system using text-to-speech technology.
These applications can be controlled via voice commands. The driver can keep his eyes on the road and the hands on the steering wheel thus helping reduce the potential for driver distraction.
Drivers Will Be Connected with Pandora
54 million people have registered on Pandora and more than 2.5 million people join Pandora every month in order to create and listen to personalized radio stations that are generated immediately with the input of a single seed: an artist name, song or genre. Continental's AutoLinQ platform adds to the ubiquity of Pandora, enabling drivers to access the music they love in the car, where more than 50% of all radio listening occurs.
NAVTEQ Provides Rich Content, Enables Services for Connected Navigation
To make driving safer, more eco-friendly and convenient, NAVTEQ is contributing to Continental's AutoLinQ demonstration vehicle by enabling an automotive-focused service delivery framework. The customizable framework brings a variety of rich content and services into the car and provides contextually relevant information whether the car is in motion or parked. Running in a browser-based framework, services include NAVTEQ Traffic, Fuel Prices, Points of Interest, "MyCar" car diagnostics, and more. The managed framework is designed to ease and speed integration of new services without updates on devices such as AutoLinQ, resulting in a future-proofed device and enhanced driver satisfaction. The solution is optimized for automotive environments and includes critical security and administrative features such as firewalls and VPNs, vehicle authentication, service portfolio management, service delivery and reporting.
In addition, NAVTEQ provides its automotive-grade quality maps to Navigon's MobileNavigator and Ygomi's Dealer Appointment Application demonstrations.
NAVIGON provides drivers with Turn-by-Turn Navigation
NAVIGON created a MobileNavigator application for Continental's AutoLinQ system. The award winning Android-based navigation software includes many helpful features that are designed to guide drivers to their destination in the best possible way. MobileNavigator boasts premium navigation functions such as NAVIGON MyRoutes, Reality View(TM) Pro, Lane Assistant Pro and Speed Assistant. It also features NAVIGON's easy to use interface as well as sophisticated and elegant map views, which automatically changes between day & night mode and even offers GPS simulation in tunnels.
Ygomi provides vehicle occupants with assistance in critical situations
With Ygomi's dealer appointment app for AutoLinQ, drivers who encounter a check engine light or other vehicle warning can choose to be connected or routed to a nearby or other preferred dealership. The Ygomi application enables drivers to view their own calendar next to the selected dealer's schedule, and to book a repair appointment. Drivers can book an appointment on their own or assisted by agents who have the ability to remotely access vehicle location and information.
INRIX App Guides Drivers Through Traffic on The Daily Commute
Continental also has teamed with INRIX, a leading provider of traffic information, to showcase a new category of navigation applications designed for commuters. Using INRIX real-time and predictive traffic information, the app takes the guesswork out of the daily commute knowing the fastest route, best time to leave and expected travel times for frequent destinations. Built on the open and flexible AutoLinQ platform, INRIX provides OEMs with a complete set of APIs and rich content to accelerate development of traffic-powered services.
Additional information about Continental's AutoLinQ(TM) connected services platform and partnerships can be found at http://www.autolinq.net.
Continental is a platinum sponsor of Telematics Detroit which is being held June 8 & 9 at the Rock Financial Showplace in Novi, Michigan. In addition to its AutoLinQ demonstration, Continental executives also are participating in keynote panel discussions and presentations during the two day industry conference.
