Provides Most Efficient, Lowest Cost Storage for Unstructured Data
SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Quantum Corp. (NYSE: QTM) today announced a new Scalar(®) storage platform optimized for storing and managing the ever-increasing volumes of unstructured data. The first new products based on this platform are the Scalar i6 and Scalar i3 tape libraries and the StorNext AEL6 purpose-built rich media archive appliance. The new Scalar platform is the latest addition to Quantum's multi-tier portfolio of workflow, hybrid flash, object-based, cloud and tape storage that enables customers to maximize the value of their data in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.
Addressing Massive Unstructured Data Growth
Customers are contending with massive growth of unstructured data, including video and other rich media types:
-- Media and entertainment companies transitioning to 4K workflows.
-- Security and video surveillance deployments adding more high-definition
cameras and sophisticated analytics.
-- Cloud storage providers expanding their customer base.
Tape can play a key role in addressing the challenges of unstructured data growth, providing data protection, active archive or long-term cold storage -- including protecting against ransomware with an offline copy. In addition, tape continues to be significantly more cost-effective than any other storage medium, as reflected in the following chart:
The Most Efficient Tape Storage Today
The new Scalar storage platform takes the benefits of tape to the next level. It offers best-in-class storage density -- twice that of earlier-generation rack-mounted libraries -- enabling organizations of all sizes to reduce their data center footprint and further reduce their storage costs. As an example, Scalar customers can vault tapes within a system to provide on-premise, monitored cold storage for less than $0.001 per GB, or $0.0014 per GB per month -- a fraction of the cost of public cloud storage.
Other innovations contributing to the Scalar's efficiency include:
-- 80 PLUS(®) certified power supplies, a unique feature of the Scalar
platform, minimize power and cooling costs and reduce the impact of data
centers on the environment.
-- Quantum's iLayer(TM) proactive diagnostics resolve issues before they
affect operations, to maximize library uptime and minimize operational
expenses.
-- Embedded compute capabilities eliminate the need for external
application servers.
-- Policy-based data integrity checking -- with the ability to move data
off suspect tapes -- and in-library active vaulting enable the storage
of petabytes of data reliably and cost-effectively for years.
Enhanced User Experience
Consumer IT has raised expectations for the user experience in the data center. As a result, the new Scalar platform significantly modernizes and enhances the user experience with features such as an all-new HTTP-based interface; automated setup, configuration and management tasks via web services; an intuitive, swipe-based local user interface design; and interaction via mobile devices.
Three New Offerings Based on the Scalar Platform
The first tape products based on the new Scalar platform are designed for three distinct environments:
-- The Scalar i3 -- Easy. Scalable. Efficient. Ideal for small and
medium-sized businesses, the Scalar i3 delivers a new level of
simplicity and scalability, providing up to 3PB of storage in only 12U
of rack space.
-- The Scalar i6 -- Efficient. Intelligent. Enterprise-Scale. Scaling up to
12PB within a single 48U rack, the Scalar i6 is targeted toward highly
demanding workflows and enterprise environments.
-- The StorNext AEL6 Appliance -- Powering Media Workflows. The new
StorNext AEL6 combines the Scalar i6 library with Quantum's StorNext(®)
data management software, enhancing the StorNext AEL line of
purpose-built, archive storage appliances for media workflows. StorNext
enables easy access to data stored on tape, with options for CIFS, NFS,
and RESTful interfaces.
Availability and Pricing
The Scalar i3, Scalar i6 and StorNext AEL6 will begin shipping next month, with list prices starting at $8,500 for the Scalar i3, $25,000 for the Scalar i6, and $42,500 for the StorNext AEL6.

Ubiquity's founder Chris Carmichael first imagined a world in which content has no boundaries in the late 1990's when he began development of the Sprocket platform. The Sprocket is an intuitive customizable navigation platform which allows users to seamlessly access their favorite destinations and applications across all VR/AR/MR devices including the Microsoft HoloLens. Developers can access SDK's to build new applications on the platform. Ubiquity is transforming the way consumers and developers alike interact with and use these technologies and devices. Ubiquity is focused on capturing the growing opportunities in virtual, augmented, and mixed reality with its Sprocket platform.
Ubiquity Chief Creative Architect Chris Carmichael said: "Our aim is to redefine the barrier between the physical location and the audience and transport you to destinations and experiences that may be otherwise out of reach. We believe the demand for these products and services will contribute to the growth of Ubiquity's core products as well as the continued use of our patented technology."
Augmented, mixed and virtual reality represent one of the bigger business opportunities of the coming decade, along with the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence. In the coming years, the International Data Corporation (IDC) expects developers to create a range of new experiences for the devices that will fundamentally change the way many people do their work. But what users can do with the hardware will depend on the applications and services that power the products. Ubiquity's Sprocket platform is that layer of support that is crucial for the development, deployment and adoption of these new devices.
Carmichael Continued: "The future of communication and collaboration will be defined by these immersive, virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences that provide economic value across the gaming, entertainment, social and the business marketplaces. These technologies will continue to disrupt the current standard with limitless possibilities."
Mark Zuckerberg who recently stated that "virtual reality will have a similar impact to the advent of the smartphone, becoming a staple of everyday life that unlocks brand-new markets for media and technology companies to profit from."

WallyHome(TM) Introduces Second Generation Monitoring System With "Rapid Response" To Help Homeowners Prevent Serious Property Damage
Home Sensing Solution Detects Water Leaks, Heating and Cooling Outages and Connects Users to Service Professionals for Fast Action
SEATTLE, Oct. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The next generation WallyHome wireless sensor network provides homeowners with peace of mind through unprecedented access to monitoring and maintaining the health of their home. The new system includes updated capabilities for the hub and sensors, and introduces Rapid Response, an optional new subscription emergency repair service that connects users to a service professional who can be dispatched to quickly fix problems and help avoid serious property damage.
"Almost 40 percent* of all homeowners have reported damage due to water over their lifetime and property damage from water leaks is the second most common home insurance claim," said Ryan Ciovacco, President of Wally Labs and Connected Living for Sears Holdings Corporation. "Our goal with WallyHome is to solve real pain points for homeowners, such as leaks that cause serious water damage or a heating outage at 2 a.m. on a freezing night. WallyHome can help save our users money and provide greater peace of mind by catching problems early on and notifying owners before significant damage occurs. We go beyond simply alerting a customer to an issue. Our end-to-end solution will also connect you with a certified professional to fix the problem before it gets worse--24 hours a day."
The WallyHome system lets users know what's happening in real-time through text message, push and email notifications and phone calls. Users can monitor for the following through the upgraded sensor:
-- Water leaks: Detect leaks to reduce the risk of costly water damage.
-- Temperature changes:
-- Identify potential problems with heating and air conditioning
systems to reduce the risk of frozen pipes and other hazards.
-- Continuously measures the temperature in multiple locations in the
home, alerting users to extreme levels or changes in temperature.
-- Humidity: Reduce the potential for unhealthy mold growth by monitoring
humidity levels.
-- Doors & windows: Avoid unknowingly leaving doors and windows open,
making the home more secure and help reduce monthly energy bills.
"We've taken all of the features our members loved from the original product, and extended them to be compatible with the most popular connected home protocols," said Parag Garg, CTO of Wally Labs and Connected Living at Sears Holdings. "In the coming months, we'll be announcing some new features, partnerships, third party products and service integrations, as well as several new WallyHome branded products."
The WallyHome Rapid Response(TM) partnership with ServiceLive's nearly 35,000 certified and screened professionals, makes it the first home monitoring system available with the ability to not only detect, but react to issues by quickly connecting owners with a service to dispatch the appropriate service professional to fix the problem. Quick action is the key to preventing or limiting property damage and the Rapid Response service delivers a professional to remedy issues within two hours, even if the homeowner is away. Rapid Response currently specializes in non-life threatening emergencies such as leaks, heating and cooling outages and frozen pipes. Areas of focus include refrigerators, dishwashers, ice makers, bathtubs, pipes, washing machines, water heaters, water softeners, HVAC, toilets and showers.
WallyHome is conducting partnership pilots with several home insurance and property management companies and is currently used in many commercial businesses ranging from restaurants and vineyards to data centers and farms.
Do-it-yourself installation of WallyHome is a snap and can be set up in minutes. Simply place the wireless sensors around the home, connect them to the network using the Wally app, and the system is set. WallyHome starter kits ($99.99) and sensors ($34.99) are available now at WallyHome.com and Sears.com. WallyHome works with iOS and Android** and is compatible with additional approved smart devices. Overwhelming developer and commercial interest in pioneering mixed-reality experiences brings HoloLens to six new countries.
REDMOND, Wash., Oct. 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- On Wednesday, Microsoft Corp. announced that Microsoft HoloLens, the world's first self-contained holographic computer, is now available for preorder in Australia, France, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, with devices starting to ship in late November.
The news comes while HoloLens is experiencing tremendous excitement and interest from developers and commercial customers and partners around the globe.
"Since the launch of Microsoft HoloLens, we have seen really passionate developers and world-class companies develop groundbreaking computing experiences -- experiences only possible on HoloLens," said Alex Kipman, technical fellow, Microsoft Windows and Devices Group. "When we set out to pioneer the mixed-reality category, we knew that many of the best innovations would be discovered when others got their hands on the technology. It has been quite inspiring to see what our partners have built and what individual developers have created. Together, we have only scratched the surface for what mixed reality can do. I can't wait to see what happens next as we welcome these new countries to our holographic landscape."
Commercial customers breaking new ground with Microsoft HoloLens
Since the launch of HoloLens, Microsoft has seen innovation happening across the board as a diverse set of companies and partners breaks new ground within its industries using HoloLens as a means to transform their business. Here is what a few of these companies have had to say about their experience with HoloLens.
Case Western Reserve University: "This device allows us to engage students in unprecedented ways," said Mark Griswold, faculty director for Case Western Reserve's Interactive Commons and leader of the university's work with Microsoft HoloLens. "The HoloLens allows students to explore the world in completely new ways. The mixed-reality view means students and faculty can interact with one another and the holographic information the entire time, preserving the critical human connection that is such an essential part of learning. We have just begun to explore the potential of HoloLens, and I am already confident that in time the device will be as common in student backpacks as laptops and smartphones."
Lowe's Home Improvement: "At Lowe's we've endeavored to build a mixed-reality solution to help change the future of our retail experience. When we saw HoloLens, we knew we had found a solution that would allow us to create a collaborative process, enabling customers to make decisions about their home improvement projects quickly and confidently," said Kyle Nel, executive director of Lowe's Innovation Labs. "We're investing the most valuable thing we have: our time and our focus. Microsoft's deep history of delivering meaningful solutions with other companies assures us that our partnership will help provide a differentiating customer experience."
thyssenkrupp: "With elevators transporting over 1 billion people each day, we have a critical role to play in keeping cities moving. At thyssenkrupp, we are focused on leading the much-needed transformation of the global elevator industry to dramatically increase the efficiency and availability of elevators, and HoloLens is a key element in helping us achieve these goals," said Andreas Schierenbeck, CEO of thyssenkrupp Elevator. "The application of HoloLens in our operations can reduce service intervention times by up to four times, and such a feat was only made possible through our strong collaboration with Microsoft."
NASA: Our partnership with NASA brings mixed reality to space exploration and discovery, creating new experiences and educational opportunities for scientists and consumers alike. Together with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, we have created four groundbreaking mixed-reality applications. The OnSight project enables scientists to use HoloLens to "work on Mars" together, directly from their offices, allowing them a means to plan and, along with the Curiosity Mars Rover, conduct science operations on the Red Planet. By extending the OnSight project, in September we opened "Destination: Mars" at the Kennedy Space Center to the public, which allows visitors the only opportunity possible today to walk around the Red Planet, just as NASA scientists do today. The Sidekick project brought HoloLens to the International Space Station to enable station crews to get remote expert assistance when and where they need it, reducing crew training requirements and increasing the efficiency at which astronauts can work in space. The NASA team created the ProtoSpace HoloLens application to build the next generation of spacecraft and space rovers; the application brings 3-D spacecraft designs into the world to help improve the design process.
With today's global expansion of HoloLens, more commercial partners are set to deliver new experiences that will allow their employees and customers to discover new ways to work.
Airbus: "Airbus believes in mixed-reality technologies, which are already deployed within our products and processes. Microsoft HoloLens is a promising platform, bringing mobility and new ways to consume and link users with digital information. Following our co-development with Microsoft teams, the device is concretely being tested and challenged in various environments across the company to understand if the technology will meet our business expectations. It is a very exciting phase, and we are looking forward to sharing concrete results based on our investigation."
Audi: "Audi is invested in leading the future of automotive design through the use of cutting-edge technologies. A technology like Microsoft HoloLens could open up new opportunities for our services in many ways -- from engineering reviews and collaboration to after-sales scenarios and new ways of customer experiences. There are many use cases to be realized," said Jan Pflüger, Coordination Augmented and Virtual Reality at Audi IT. Microsoft's mixed-reality movement is just beginning
Today, HoloLens customers are developing innovative solutions that are already having a positive impact on their business. These customers are the early adopters of the kind of mixed-reality solutions that are poised for exponential growth in the years to come. According to IDC, "worldwide revenues for the augmented reality and virtual reality market will grow from $5.2 billion in 2016 to more than $162 billion in 2020.(1)" Windows 10 will be updated in 2017 to include Windows Holographic, the platform that powers the mixed-reality experiences enabling people to perceive the world differently, break down barriers, and bring the virtual and the physical worlds together. In June at Computex, we announced that Windows Holographic is coming to Windows 10 PCs and head-mounted displays to deliver incredible new mixed-reality experiences. The development opportunity is significant -- as all holographic apps are Universal Windows apps, and all Universal Windows apps can be made to run on the Windows Holographic platform. This means the investments that developers of all shapes and sizes make today will take advantage of the growing ecosystem of Windows Holographic devices.

With Fujitsu ETERNUS, All-Flash Storage is Ready for Primetime
MUNICH, October 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
Fujitsu today changes the dynamics of primary storage in enterprise computing
environments with the introduction of super-fast, all-flash storage systems. New ETERNUS
AF all-flash models are Fujitsu's fastest-ever storage systems, bringing all-flash
technology within reach of everyday applications to underpin business transformation.
While processor and network speeds have kept pace with the demands of ever faster
applications and continual data growth, traditional hard drive (HDD) storage technology
has fallen behind. Fujitsu is addressing this with the new ETERNUS AF all-flash storage
systems, using Solid State Drives (SSDs).
ETERNUS AF combines system reliability with the ultra-low response times that today's
enterprise applications demand - with SSDs operating up to 500 times faster than
traditional disks - to deliver maximum performance for mixed workloads including databases,
VDI, analytics, and big data. The new ETERNUS AF family makes flash storage more
attractive than ever, thanks to competitive pricing and lower total cost of ownership for
all-flash systems, which need less maintenance and are more reliable than HDD-based
storage systems.
Michael Keegan, Head of Business Line Products at Fujitsu EMEIA, comments: "We're
bringing ultra-fast, all-flash storage to the mass market, at new price points for both
purchase and operation that make the ETERNUS AF all-flash system an affordable, viable
mainstream business solution. As the economics of all-flash storage become ever more
attractive, we're enabling customers to create faster, more responsive IT environments
that are easily able to maximize the benefits of digital services and next generation data
and applications accessed from anywhere."
ETERNUS AF storage systems enable customers to transform their data centers with
super-fast, easily expandable storage solutions that potentially deliver huge reductions
in overheads. IT teams also benefit from significantly simplified operations: Automated
Quality of Service features dramatically reduce administration and maintenance
requirements, freeing up system engineers from repetitive, mundane tasks.
ETERNUS AF also ensures non-stop business operations, providing enterprises with
greater peace of mind. Mirroring of business-critical data eliminates risk of data loss,
while in the event of a system failure, the transparent failover feature instantly
switches to a secondary system. Fujitsu has also ensured that traditional ETERNUS DX disk
storage systems work seamlessly together with ETERNUS AF. As they venture in the world of
all-flash systems, organizations can combine the two systems, leveraging the benefits of
flash storage while continuing to extract value from existing data center infrastructure.
Customers choosing ETERNUS AF also benefit from cost-savings - firstly thanks to
built-in data deduplication and compression technologies which ensure that the Fujitsu
ETERNUS AF system automatically optimizes data volume, helping reduce SSD capacity
requirements by an average factor of five. This is achieved through inline deduplication
that identifies and discards duplicates, then compresses data by removing all redundant
information. In addition, all-flash systems take up less space in a data center and
consume less energy for power and cooling, in comparison to traditional disk arrays.
At launch, Fujitsu is offering two all-flash models. The top-of-the-range ETERNUS
AF650 boasts up to 256GB maximum system memory and a maximum of 96 SSD drives, providing
capacities of 368TB raw, 1843TB effective capacity. A second model, the ETERNUS AF250,
offers 64GB of system memory, up to 24 SSD drives and 92TB raw / 460TB effective capacity.
Calculations are based on an estimated data deduplication and compression ratio of 5:1.
Pricing and availabilityÂ
FUJITSU Storage ETERNUS AF systems are available to order with immediate effect and
Fujitsu expects the first shipments in late October. Pricing varies according to country
and configuration.

Unchanged, however, is its built-in fully rugged GammaTech toughness and durability, allowing it to operate in the harshest conditions, from scorching-hot deserts to freezing terrains, stealth missions to an active combat zone.
"Since we introduced the R8300 several years ago, military troops, public safety workers, and many governmental departments have come under greater and greater threats to their lives and well-being," stated Tom Wang, GammaTech president. "Terrorists, social misfits, and both domestic and international hackers have put people toiling in these professions at far greater risks than anyone ever thought possible. With its latest upgrades, our DURABOOK R8300 fully rugged notebook is now, more than ever, ready to go to battle and help protect these individuals. And we back it like never before with our three-year Peace of Mind warranty."

DDR4 uses up to 20% less power than DDR3 (1.5v), making it more energy efficient, saving battery life, lowering energy costs, and reducing system temperature. DDR4 is also twice as fast, increasing responsiveness and productivity, and twice as dense with more memory bandwidth.
Advanced Connectivity
The DURABOOK R8300 connectivity has been upgraded with a Wi-Fi/Bluetooth combo featuring Intel® Wireless-AC 8260 and dual-mode Bluetooth 4.2. The combo is fast, energy efficient, and provides excellent coverage. The R8300 is also equipped with Gobi500 and supports multi-carriers.

NSI International Introduces Laser X - The Ultimate High-Tech Game of Tag
NEW YORK, Oct. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- NSI International introduces Laser X - the ultimate laser gaming experience. It's like having a laser arena right in your own backyard!
All-new Laser X features sophisticated electronics and optics that give players pinpoint blasting accuracy up to 200 feet. The receiver vest keeps tracks of hits. After 10 hits, players are eliminated from the game.
Players can choose to be on teams or select "rogue" mode where it's every player for his or herself. All Laser X sets work together, so games can have as few as two players - or the whole neighborhood can play.
Advanced sensors in the Laser X blaster know when players are blasting, being hit, running or hiding. An interactive "coach" uses this information to give players tips and tricks throughout the game.
"We've used incredible electronics, full-color lighting effects and awesome sound effects to create a gaming experience never before seen in this type of product," said Brian Waldman, Senior Vice President at NSI and creator of Laser X. "The product is highly advanced, but easy enough for even a younger child to use."

EMC VMAX 250F
The VMAX 250F leverages Dell EMC's experience of developing enterprise-scale VMAX All Flash arrays to deliver a high performance system that meets the specifications of organizations with enterprise-class standards and midmarket budgets.
The VMAX 250F is:
-- Enterprise Class: The new VMAX 250F delivers all of the performance,

And, with the introduction of the updated Dell EMC HYPERMAX operating system, the entire VMAX All Flash family will enjoy the benefits of inline compression and non-disruptive migration."
Dell EMC HYPERMAX Operating System
Like the entire VMAX family of AFAs, the VMAX 250F will benefit from the release of the new HYPERMAX operating system. HYPERMAX delivers:
-- Inline Compression: Operating at a granular level, customers will be
able to target workloads that benefit the most from compression,
including data that was written prior to new HYPERMAX updates. New
inline compression and data reduction capabilities deliver reduced
footprint and cost savings by reducing storage requirements by up to 4x
compared to a configuration without data reduction

SRDF/Metro, which reduces footprint and cost and eliminates the
requirement for additional hardware by now offering a virtual "witness"
to deliver an active/active data center
-- Third Site Support: SRDF/Metro updates in HYPERMAX will support
asynchronous third-site support to provide disaster recovery over geo
distances to a tertiary site
The launch of the new HYPERMAX software coincides with a new OpenStack Newton Cinder release for VMAX. This underscores Dell EMC's commitment to the OpenStack storage community, and extends VMAX's capabilities in the all-flash market
Dell EMC VPLEX for All-Flash
The new VS6 platform of VPLEX, Dell EMC's flagship solution for continuous availability and non-disruptive data mobility, takes a performance leap to meet the needs of All-Flash environments. VPLEX VS6 delivers twice the performance at one-third the latency and provides much greater scale than previous generations. VPLEX VS6 is optimized for flash with UNMAP support for thin provisioning, XCOPY support and Integrated Copy Data Management (iCDM) support across active-active datacenters.
Dell EMC is also introducing a new all-inclusive VPLEX solution exclusively for Dell EMC All-Flash arrays: VPLEX for All-Flash. With VPLEX For All-Flash, the software license is tied to a VPLEX engine without any limitations on the capacity or the number of Dell EMC flash arrays protected, making it a very cost effective option for customers to extend VPLEX capabilities to their growing all-flash workloads. Thanks to its scale-out architecture, customers can non-disruptively add additional VPLEX engines to support the performance requirements of multiple All-Flash systems.
The new VS6 platform and VPLEX For All-Flash solution have been designed to enable customers to modernize their datacenters with continuous availability and non-disruptive data mobility. VPLEX adds seven-nines availability to mission-critical workloads for performance intensive all-flash systems.

Customer Quotes:
Uli Betzler, storage architect, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT)
"We've been Dell EMC customers for a long time and use products from across its portfolio of storage solutions. Dell EMC VMAX 250F takes up an important place in that portfolio for us. As a research institute, not all of our workloads are enormous, but they are all critical. So, while we need the performance and reliability of a VMAX for all of our arrays, we didn't need the scale of a VMAX for every one. The VMAX 250F will allow us to access the proven capabilities of the VMAX family in a new range of environments where the economics now really work."
Ned Jones, IT director, RC Willey
"Our business goal is to deliver exceptional selection, value, superior service and professional associates that really care about our customers. Maintaining and managing customer data is key to our ability to meet those goals so we are constantly handling greater and greater volumes of information. Dell EMC's new version of HYPERMAX makes it simple for us to update our data center to take advantage of flash, it also introduces incredible levels of inline compression. That means we can keep growing the volumes of data that drives benefits for our customers, without needing more space, more power or more costs."
Industry Analyst Quote:
Mark Peters, practice director and senior analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group
"The market for All-Flash arrays continues to grow - in both established and emerging sectors. But 'All-Flash' per se is ceasing to be a differentiator between vendors as software, application integration and proven capabilities instead become the critical decision factors. This translates into prospective customers that are demanding more concrete evidence from vendors to know not just how much a terabyte of storage is going to cost them, but if a specific storage system matches their precise needs. Vendors have the greatest likelihood of succeeding in the evolving flash storage market if they have a portfolio of flash solutions where economic needs can be balanced against storage volume and functional prerequisites in order to find the right fit for each customer's needs."
Partner Quote:
Sachin Gupta, vice president, data center and enterprise switching, Cisco
"Cisco and Dell EMC are committed to delivering solutions that offer extreme levels of performance, scale and availability. Dell EMC's announcement of the VMAX 250F expands the VMAX All Flash portfolio from high-end enterprise to a new group of customers. Cisco MDS 9000 Storage Networking platform offers a combination of performance, non-stop operations, investment protection and flexibility which is the perfect complement to the VMAX 250F enabling organizations to modernize and transform their data center."
Scott Miller, director, data center, WWT
"The question our customers face is no longer 'Flash or spinning?' but 'Which flash?' Dell EMC's flash portfolio approach means that there's a flash solution to match every use case. The launch of the VMAX 250F hits a sweet spot for organizations that require enterprise-class features at an affordable price point. WWT is proud to showcase the VMAX 250F array in our Advanced Technology Center's Flash Lab. Dell EMC's new HYPERMAX software for VMAX not only simplifies the process of migrating customers to an All-Flash environment, but it also significantly reduces the required storage capacity thanks to inline compression. This, in turn, delivers performance benefits and can save our customers money."

Dell EMC Brings the Power of Flash and Cloud Tiering to Industry's #1 Protection Storage with New Family of Data Domain Appliances
Data Domain Flash-Enabled Protection Storage Appliances Deliver Rapid Access to Protection Data and Increased Speed and Scale
HOPKINTON, Mass., Oct. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
News Summary:
-- Dell EMC raises the bar for performance and scale with new family of
Data Domain protection storage appliances that harness the power of
flash and leverage the cloud
-- New Data Domain Cloud Tier increases overall capacity by 200%, with a
maximum logical capacity of up to 150PB managed by a single system
-- Establishes Data Domain as the only protection storage to natively tier
de-duplicated data to public, private, or hybrid clouds for long-term
retention
-- The DD9800 is 7x more scalable, 1.5x faster and can support 5x more
streams than the nearest competitor
Dell EMC is unveiling new software and a new generation of Dell EMC Data Domain protection storage systems that are flash-enabled to deliver industry-leading speed and scalability as well as enhanced protection for virtual environments. These new systems also provide the ultimate in efficiency for tiering long-term retention data to the cloud.
The deployment of the new Data Domain Cloud Tier software within Data Domain increases the total volume of data that can be managed through a single appliance by 200 percent, with a maximum logical capacity of 150PB. Data Domain Cloud Tier establishes Data Domain as the only protection storage to natively tier de-duplicated data to public, private, or hybrid clouds for long-term retention, including Dell EMC Elastic Cloud Storage and Virtustream Storage Cloud.
The new Data Domain family features four new models: DD6300, DD6800, DD9300 and DD9800. The DD6300 is a turnkey, all-in-one appliance designed specifically for small and midrange customers. The DD6800, DD9300 and DD9800 expand the capacity and features such as high availability to minimize downtime and ensure business continuity in the face of a sudden hardware failure. The DD9800 is 7x more scalable, 1.5x faster and can support 5x more streams than the nearest competitor.
The added power of flash is also enhancing the experience for users in virtual environments. In conjunction with Dell EMC Avamar software, the new family of Data Domain appliances can access protection instances of virtual machines (VMs) 20x faster. Customers are able to boot up VMs using a protection copy of the virtual machine files (VMDKs) directly from Data Domain instead of needing to restore the VM to a separate primary storage system.
"Protecting the modern data center is a critical pillar of any IT transformation strategy," said Beth Phalen, SVP and GM, data protection solutions, Dell EMC. "Business Agility requires customers to protect rapidly growing data sets and minimize downtime no matter what happens in their data centers. To meet these needs we are introducing four new Data Domain systems with integrated flash technology that deliver new levels of scale and performance, allow customers to instantly restore large application environments and further reduce the time it takes to protect large volumes of data. Our data protection everywhere strategy ensures data is protected - affordably and securely - no matter where it lives."
Data Domain OS 6.0
The new Data Domain family of appliances is powered by the next generation of the Data Domain operating system, DD OS 6.0. In addition to the introduction of Data Domain Cloud Tier, DD OS 6.0 delivers new advanced integration with Hadoop, via the Dell EMC Data Protection Suite for Applications, an industry-unique solution to deliver enterprise grade protection of big data.
Availability:
The new family of Data Domain appliances and Data Domain OS 6.0, which includes Data Domain Cloud Tier, are available today.
Customer Quote:
Anthony Gizzarelli, senior manager, backup and recovery operations and engineering, AIG
"Protection storage is every bit as important to us as primary storage so we have relied on Dell EMC Data Domain for many years. As the volumes of data that we manage grow, being able to tier data intelligently to more cost-efficient targets, such as the cloud, becomes more important to us. However, should anything happen, we need to access our protection data fast so we're excited by new features, such as high availability and being able to run VMs direct from the protection storage instance."
Analyst Quote:
Jason Buffington, principal analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group
"This week's announcement reminds us all why Data Domain continues to be the dominant solution in protection storage today. Data protection has always been about the 'race to zero' in recovery time, while balancing cost to performance in the solution overall. Between the VM-scenario enhancements, the addition of cloud-tier as an extension of the protection storage, and acceleration via its flash tier, Dell EMC is pulling all the levers that are on the leading edge for modern data protection in enterprises today."

Elephant Talk - Expeto Partnership Results in First Enterprise Branded MVNO Customer with Targeted 2016 Initial Rollout
NEW YORK, Oct. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Elephant Talk Communications Corp. (NYSE MKT: ETAK) ("Elephant Talk," or the "Company"), a leading international provider of mobile networking software and services, today announced that its mobile virtual network enterprise (MVNE) mobile cloud services platform will be deployed with its strategic partner Expeto's 4G LTE engine, providing a new enterprise "brand focused" Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) unique branded global mobile services.
Elephant Talk, Expeto, and our new "brand focused" MVNO enterprise customer have agreed to create a detailed commercial, technical and financial business model, including revenue sharing arrangements, related to the global deployment of consumer branded mobile networks, handsets and brand-exclusive content, engaged by the MVNO, with network services delivered through existing global roaming access partners already running on the Elephant Talk systems.
The development and deployment of this jointly managed global mobile solution represents a new, disintermediated and highly disruptive paradigm in branded mobile services delivery. Its "brand first" business model will deploy services that depart from the customary gigabyte - megabyte data-based, rated service plan pricing models, providing a new pricing basis leveraging a brand membership subscription plan which effectively removes the "distribution tax" that brands otherwise endure in connecting with their customers. The delivery of this branded global mobile solution business model is expected to transition Elephant Talk from a low margin wholesale provider to pricing and profit margins enjoyed by the leading software as a service companies.
"We are pleased to join forces with our partner, Expeto, in forging our first global MVNO partnered solution with a market leading (albeit in "stealth mode" in deference to their brand customers), global, brand-centric MVNO solution provider. This is a significant milestone with disruptive market implications, which has the potential to bring millions of subscribers (members) that loyally follow global and national cult brands. Brands have learned so much about their consumers' engagement and network economies available to them via social networks. The most innovative brands are strengthening their communities around the interests of enthusiastic and loyal customers. Now with the ETAK-Expeto solution, those brands will retain more direct control and distribution of exclusive brand related information, services, and content. This represents a material improvement for the brand member's consumed content, while reducing costly dependencies on 3rd parties," said Hal Turner, Executive Chairman of Elephant Talk.
"This enterprise focused model represents exclusive brands which will purchase handsets, media and secure content, downloads, movies, interviews and additional content the brand wishes to present to their members. This includes established retail distribution channels with major recognized retail brands. Handset manufacturing and distribution agreements are in place already. We expect to see an increasing number of brands approaching us to discuss not so much the launch of a traditional SIM-only based MVNO, but rather the possibility to distribute branded devices that smartly choose its optimal connection via cloud based networks, delivering seamless services in multiple geographies," Mr. Turner added.
As enterprises look to expand the services they offer to customers and employees, Communications Service Providers (CSPs) struggle to move beyond connectivity to offer the full capability for businesses looking to exploit IoT (internet of everything). In response, enterprises are seeking to directly deploy MVNO services, equipping them to take control of their own operations and networks. The Elephant Talk - Expeto strategic partnership responds to this growing market demand, offering complete MVNO capabilities within trusted private networks. Gartner predicts, 'By 2018 the top 1000 global enterprises will implement MVNO capabilities of some scale in support of their IOT capabilities.'
"With Expeto enabling private organizations to fully control cellular data in a trusted way, inclusive of LTE and WIFI data and the partnership with Elephant Talk, including its online subscription management and unique billing, the two Companies can address the needs of global enterprise and cult brands willing to control, by themselves, the distribution of their content directly to their best consumers and fans, no longer depending exclusively on dominant operators and social networks," said Ryley MacKenzie, CEO of Expeto.

Chinese UAV Maker Areox to Release a Next Generation Handheld Video Stabilizer
The PIRO Smart Gimbal Delivers Stability that was Previously only Available to Professionals
HONG KONG, Oct. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- From the widespread popularity of selfie sticks to the emergence of handheld camera gimbals, the global handheld device market is going through another transformation. With the increasing popularity of live webcasts in 2016, videos are becoming increasingly important as a new means of social communication, making image stabilization technology-based handheld camera gimbals increasingly a must among consumers.
Shenzhen Areox Technologies Co., Ltd. plans to release a high quality handheld camera stabilizer, the PIRO Smart Gimbal, at this year's Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition). Consumers care about what features and flexible designs a good handheld camera gimbal can offer while what the product can deliver in terms of advanced technology has set off a transformative round of innovation driven by what really matters top professionals.
Areox is a Chinese high-tech company principally engaged in research and development as well as production of electric multi-rotor unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and related parts, with a focus on technological innovation. Bringing together the R&D strength of professional developers of aviation products located in China as well as outside the country, and supported by heavy investment in its own R&D, the company has successfully applied for several utility patents. In addition, the company has made breakthroughs in several areas, including flight-control and optical image processing systems. Based on the idea of giving users the opportunity to see the world from another vantage point, Areox has been dedicated to providing steady and stable UAVs and smart equipment to hobbyists with the aim of becoming a high-tech producer with a global reputation.
Unlike other Chinese UAV manufacturers, Areox boasts a professional R&D team consisting of experienced technicians from across the aviation industry, 80 per cent of whom have a master's degree or above, giving the company the wherewithal to develop a comprehensive suite of solutions from industrial structure designs to production.
In addition to strong talent and technical prowess, an excellent product cannot be launched without a company's accurate understanding of market trends. With the development of the smart aerial drone market, Areox was quick to grasp what the market demanded, and after two years of research and development, launched the smart aerial drone X5, which features a high-precision flight control system, three-axis stabilized pan-tilt and a HD motion camera, delivering an outstanding user experience. In addition, the X5 was showcased at the 2016 Mobile World Congress (MWC) and the Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition) 2016, garnering great acclaim from customers. Areox's next-generation drone product, the X6, will be unveiled at the 2017 CES.
Focusing on the development and production of drones, Areox has also developed pan-tilt-based stability augmentation equipment for action photos and video.
After launching several generations of products, Areox's continues to improve in terms of technical prowess. In the past, handheld video stabilizers were strictly a tool in the province of professional photographers. With the rise of internet journalists and video bloggers, however, the capabilities of one's video recording equipment are of increasing importance. Consumer demands have become similar to those of professionals, in terms of what is expected when it comes to stability, as well as in terms of where the market for cameras is heading. It is in this context that expectations in terms of more user-friendly handheld stabilization devices have decidedly grown, and the PIRO Smart Gimbal is the answer to that expectation.
Can the PIRO Smart Gimbal, which will be launched in Hong Kong on October 15 and maintains the same high quality that is expected of all Areox products, be the next head turner in the market? Will it stand out among the many new products expected to come on stream at the same time? Finding out the answer to that question will be well worth the wait.
JPay Builds the First Pink-Colored Tablet and Accessories for Prisons, Creating an Opportunity for Inmates to Support the Fight Against Breast Cancer
A portion of the proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society - Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
MIAMI, Oct. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Millions of Americans buy pink-themed products in October to support National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but for some populations - such as the incarcerated - access to those purchases are limited or non-existent. This year, JPay partnered with the American Cancer Society to ensure that inmates can participate in the fight against a disease that takes thousands of lives each year. Typically constructed out of clear, polycarbonate plastic, JPay manufactured limited edition pink-colored JP5s 7" tablets and pink-colored tablet cases which are available in North Dakota, Ohio and Washington prisons, as well as the Northlake facility in Michigan. A portion of the proceeds from each purchase benefits the American Cancer Society - Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
The pink-colored JP5s 7" tablet comes with all the bells and whistles as the clear model, including music, games, education, email and much more so inmates can stay connected with their loved ones! However, the pink model physically symbolizes an inmate's support in the fight against breast cancer, demonstrating that even while serving time, offenders can play a role in eradicating diseases and positively participate in the community.
"Sadly, it's rare to meet someone who has not been affected by breast cancer, which is why we felt compelled to create the opportunity for inmates to participate in the fight against the disease," said Errol Feldman, CEO of JPay. "For inmates, the pink-colored tablet and cases are tangible representations of their passion for the cause, something they own and use every day, not just a simple receipt from a monetary donation. It means something more."
The pink-colored tablets are priced the same as clear tablets, however JPay will donate $10.00 to the American Cancer Society - Making Strides Against Breast Cancer for every pink-colored tablet purchase, as well as a $3.00 donation for every pink-colored tablet case.
"We feel very fortunate to have been selected as the beneficiary of this creative initiative," said Margarita Orta, Senior Market Manager, Community Engagement for the American Cancer Society. "This effort allows inmates to give back and help others regardless of their state and limitations. We all have a role in the fight against breast cancer and together we are stronger than cancer."

Dell EMC Unity Increases Efficiency And Lowers All-Flash Storage Costs By 4x ... For Free
Latest Version Delivers Substantial Gains in Storage Efficiency, Capacity and Value with Ability to Scale Up to 384TB in 2U Footprint
HOPKINTON, Mass., Oct. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
News Highlights:
-- CloudIQ cloud-based storage analytics software delivers intelligent and
predictive analytics to proactively monitor and manage health of Dell
EMC Unity storage systems
-- Free, non-disruptive, data-in-place software upgrade delivers 4x storage
efficiencies within the same footprint via inline compression and other
all-flash optimizations
-- Lowers TCO via tiering of data to public clouds with policy-based file
tiering to archive inactive data
-- Unity All-Flash now provides up to 384TB in a 2U rack through new
support for 15.36TB 3D NAND (SAS Flash 4) flash drives
Full Story:
Dell EMC today introduced significant, free, non-disruptive, data-in-place software updates to the Dell EMC Unity(TM) family of storage systems. The new capabilities featuring intelligent inline compression and support for the latest flash drives are designed to enable substantial gains in storage capacity and efficiency for All-Flash configurations. Expanding Unity's capabilities for the modern data center, Dell EMC also introduced integrated file tiering to the public cloud (including Virtustream), along with intelligent and predictive analytics through the new CloudIQ cloud-based storage analytics platform.
Previewed earlier this year, CloudIQ is a cloud-based storage analytics platform that will be available later this quarter. CloudIQ provides near real-time intelligence and predictive analytics capabilities to proactively monitor, manage, and provide health scores for Unity storage.
Double the Capacity, Same Footprint
Unity customers will gain inline compression capabilities with the latest version of UnityOE software, further enhancing data storage efficiency with features such as thin provisioning, snapshots and "file system shrink." With the ability to compress block-based LUNs hosting in All-Flash pools, Unity's new compression capabilities are designed to help customers save up to 70% in storage capacity costs.
Unity All-Flash now provides up to 384TB in a 2U rack through new support for 15.36TB 3D NAND (SAS Flash 4) flash drives, doubling Unity's drive density. In addition, the Unity 600(F) doubles the number of drives supported, increasing total usable capacity up to 10PBs.
Extending the life of mixed SSDs, Dell EMC is also introducing intelligent wear leveling with Unity, allowing customers to mix different types of flash drives within an All-Flash pool. This capability is designed to further extend the life expectancy of All-Flash drives on Unity platforms by intelligently moving data off highly active drives over to drives with less activity within the same Unity storage array.
Lower TCO with Cloud Tiering
Expanding its capabilities for the modern data center, Unity now supports seamless, automated policy-based file tiering to public clouds including Virtustream, Amazon S3, and Microsoft Azure. With this capability, customers can archive inactive data to a public cloud service. This feature can help reduce capital expenditure on additional physical storage by freeing up primary storage capacity while reducing backup windows and lowering operational expenditures by reducing data management overheads. Furthermore, customers who use Unity cloud file tiering with Virtustream can save up to 60% on their file storage costs.
Migration Made Easy
Since its May 2016 introduction, thousands of customers have simplified and modernized their data centers with Unity, and upgrading to Unity has never been easier. Customers wishing to upgrade to Unity from EMC VNX® systems can leverage a new streamlined and simplified workflow user interface. Migration is implemented as a built-in, self-service solution from inside the new Unisphere management interface. Additionally, customers already using Unity can take advantage of data-in-place upgrades.
"We're always looking for innovative new ways to help our customers get the most out of their storage environments and bring a new level of simplicity to storage," said Jeff Boudreau, SVP and GM midrange storage, Dell EMC. "By adding inline compression to our existing data reduction technologies, our customers can achieve up to 4x efficiencies in their storage, helping them to reduce significant overhead within their database and other workloads and maximize the value of their storage investments. With the addition of larger capacity flash drives for Dell EMC Unity, customers will be able to scale their environments up to 384TB in a 2U rack, driving up efficiency while keeping down TCO. And now with the availability of new CloudIQ storage analytics, customers can get proactive Health Scores of Unity systems including recommended remediation based on best practices and risk management procedures - ensuring Unity systems are available, protected, and performing."
Availability
Updates to the UnityOE, including support for 15.36TB flash drives, will be available toward the end of 2016 at no cost as a non-disruptive, data-in-place upgrade.

"Inline compression in Unity will allow us to more efficiently utilize our midrange storage capacity and, ultimately, reduce costs. Additionally, the ability to create completely isolated environments using IP multi-tenancy will greatly increase security and control, which, as a cloud service provider, is an absolute necessity. The simplicity with which we can perform data-in-place hardware upgrades is amazing on the Unity platform, as is our ability to upgrade an existing Unity array to a new model by swapping out the service processors."

Ashish Nadkarni, program director, computing platforms, IDC
"Businesses are putting unprecedented pressures on their midrange storage arrays, with ever-increasing sizes and numbers of files that need to be stored and accessed instantly. To get the most out of an array - in terms of value for money and capacity per drive - it's important for organizations to demand high-capacity drives, data compression and tiering to the cloud. Smart businesses are choosing storage platforms that act as a hub, compressing data and directing it to the best storage target to match its SLOs, whether that's an internal, high-capacity flash drive for hot data or a more cost-effective option in the cloud for information that's not used as much."
Partner Quote:
Jack Rondoni, vice president of storage networking, Brocade
"To achieve maximum value from the Dell EMC Unity Family of solutions, organizations require a modern storage network that is easy to deploy and manage without sacrificing performance or reliability. Brocade Gen 6 Fibre Channel and IP storage networking helps unleash the full power and efficiencies of Unity. In addition, Brocade Fabric Vision Technology with IO Insight provides deeper visibility into the IO performance of storage infrastructure to further enhance monitoring and maintenance of service levels."

NetComm Wireless to Showcase Wireless Network Terminating Innovations at Broadband World Forum
SYDNEY, Oct. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- NetComm Wireless Limited (ASX: NTC), today announced that it will display its carrier-grade Wireless Network Terminating Devices (WNTD) at Broadband World Forum in London next week in response to the call for fast and cost-effective 4G LTE Fixed Wireless broadband deployments to regional, rural and outer urban locations worldwide.
In Australia, NetComm Wireless' WNTDs are proven to meet performance measures across vast geographic areas, and the technology is currently being deployed to deliver fast and reliable broadband to homes and businesses in underserved areas throughout the US.
"A common misconception about Wireless Network Terminating Devices is that the technology is consumer premises equipment (CPE). While both are installed at the premises, that's where the similarities end. Unlike basic CPE, WNTDs form an integral part of the 4G LTE network. The technology is owned, managed and monitored directly by the carrier.
Our WNTDs are engineered to deliver specific capacity to targeted premises and we are pleased to work with our partners to give homes and businesses an amount of bandwidth that guarantees performance so carriers can meet their headline speed claims for various products," said David Stewart, CEO and Managing Director, NetComm Wireless.
Specially engineered to extend the trusted zone all the way to the premises, NetComm Wireless' WNTDs bring optimal performance to premises in precise coverage areas by enabling a direct line of sight connection between the LTE base tower and the premises.
Designed to deliver network grade connectivity, NetComm Wireless' WNTDs bring 4G LTE broadband to homes and businesses while ensuring quality of service for guaranteed service level agreements.
Installed on the roof of the premises, WNTDs are network-grade devices built to withstand extreme wind, rain, heat, dust and other outdoor conditions; while offering surge protection for optimal reliability.
NetComm Wireless develops custom WNTDs that have demonstrated world leading capabilities. Offering more than basic CPE hardware and functions, NetComm Wireless' fixed wireless design service includes the installation, tools and software functionality needed to ensure quality of service and quality of experience while reducing the network operator's total cost of ownership.
NetComm Wireless will showcase its world leading Wireless Network Terminating Devices (WNTD) from 18-20 October 2016 at Broadband World Forum, stand D24, ExCeL Convention Centre, London.
