Silicon Deployment of Sensory's Low Power Sound Detector for Always-Listening Voice Control Heats Up
The Low Power Sound Detector (LPSD) component of Sensory's TrulyHandsfree technology is gaining significant traction among chip providers, being widely deployed as hardware within new chip designs
SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 20, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Sensory Inc., a Silicon Valley company focused on improving the user experience and security of consumer electronics through state-of-the-art embedded voice and vision technologies, today announced that deployment of its Low Power Sound Detector (LPSD) hardware component of the company's TrulyHandsfree technology is gaining steady traction among leading chip manufacturers. Finding its way into a variety of chip designs from DSPs, digital microphones and sensor fusion hubs, Sensory's LPSD hardware block is currently shipping in product designs from DSP Group, Knowles and QuickLogic, with more chip partners to be announced. LPSD allows chip manufactures whose products are suited for enabling an always-listening speech recognition system on CE devices to greatly reduce the power requirements of their components, as well as the power demand of the entire speech recognition audio chain.
Ideal for always-on keyword trigger solutions that enable "Alexa," "Hey Cortana," "Hey Siri," or "Okay Google" hands-free voice control on devices, Sensory's LPSD was designed to only wake the audio chain for a keyword trigger when potential speech is sensed. The solution conserves power usage by allowing the remaining audio chain of a device to be switched off until needed for speech processing.
"Sensory has been the industry's pioneer of low-power speech recognition technologies for more than 20 years and while our line of speech recognition solutions have always been extremely power efficient, we created our Low Power Sound Detector technology for those looking to integrate always-listening voice trigger technology into ultra-low-power devices," said Todd Mozer, founder and CEO of Sensory.
LPSD was developed as a supplemental solution designed to enable low-power devices to operate Sensory's TrulyHandsfree(TM) and other always-on, always-listening speech recognition technologies with minimal draw on the battery.
A hardware implementation of LPSD reduces the overall system power for always-listening keyword trigger technology by 50 percent. Depending on the mix of speech to silence, Sensory's LPSD reduces processing requirements and lowers average power consumption (including digital microphone and decimation logic) of an always-on implementation to under 1mA, which has long been a target for use in wearables and battery operated consumer electronics (some cases require as little as 400uA).
"Sensory is the industry leader in voice processing systems for mobile applications," said Brian Faith, CEO at QuickLogic Corporation. "Integration of Sensory's TrulyHandsfree and LPSD hardware with the QuickLogic EOS S3 multi-core sensor processing SoC provides unprecedented always-on speech recognition capability, and will facilitate a new generation of voice-driven applications capable of running on a fraction of the power consumption of competing technologies."

MEIZU MX6, World's First Smartphone Featuring Sony Exmore RX IMX 386 Camera, Launched Today
BEIJING, July 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading consumer electronics company and smartphone manufacturer MEIZU announced the launch of its latest MX series product, MEIZU MX6, at a product release conference in Beijing today.
The latest product in the MX series, MX6 comes with a number of tech upgrades from previous products and offers the following unique features:
-- Powerful camera with Sony Exmore RS IMX386 CMOS, customized 6-element
lens, f/2.0 aperture, 0.2s focus speed and face auto-exposure algorithm
-- TDDI solution and Full In-cell screen
-- All metal body and cambered antenna
The MX6 introduces the Sony Exmore RSIMX 386 in its rear camera. With the single pixel size up to 1.25 µm and a customized 6-element lens, the image quality is greatly improved and the interference from the lens flare is significantly reduced. The high-density phase detection pixel embedded in the sensor brings enhanced focus accuracy and speed, while the front camera utilizes a combination of the 5-megapixel OV5695 sensor, FotoNation 2.0 smart beauty technology and face auto-exposure enhancement algorithm.
MEIZU also adopts touch and display driver integration (TDDI) technology in the MX6 for the first time. Instead of using two ICs for touch and display driving respectively, TDDI technology integrates touch and display driving in one chip. This technology reduces the power consumption during operation and produces a better display effect. Another advantage of the MX6's full in-cell screen is that it integrates dual-touch sensing in its LCD screen to further optimize the touch component and significantly improve the touch performance.
An aviation aluminum magnesium alloy, which is light but durable, is selected as the body material for MX6 and over a hundred precise processes are needed to render the perfect body design. Among these processes are CNC cutting and engraving, PBT nano-molding, 360-degree high-precision grinding, 3D sand blasting, and colored anodizing. The MX6 also inherits MEIZU's unique cambered antenna design, with the well-designed curve of the antenna echoing the edges and angles of the body and reflecting the simple and elegant beauty of geometry.
Other features include a MediaTek flagship processor, Helio X20, the world's first mobile processor with a 10-core Tri-cluster structure. The Tri-cluster structure of the Helio X20 enables dynamic switching among modules based on different task demands.
The MX6 is also equipped with a T880 GPU which increases the unit performance by 80% and energy efficiency by 40% compared to previous T760. It also supports the latest OpenGL® ES 3.1 / DirectX® 11.2 standard. The handset is also backed by a 3060mA (typ.) battery and features mCharge 2.1 technology which offers 25% charge in 10 minutes and full charge in 75 minutes.
"MEIZU added the MX series to its product line back in 2011 to provide more options for consumers who value smartphone features," said Li Nan, MEIZU's Vice President. "A variety of MEIZU's well received features, such as the all-metal body, front fingerprint sensor, ultra-thin bezel, and breathing home button, were first implemented in MX series products and the MX6 is yet another way for us to connect with our customers. We believe it will be a great product in all aspects and we look forward to its becoming popular in the market."
The new MEIZU MX6 is available in silver, gray, gold and rose gold at USD 300(RMB 1,999) (4GB+32GB).

Nunulo VR Launches on Kickstarter, Bringing Better and More Comfortable Virtual Reality Experience to Users Regardless of Visual Acuity
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., July 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Nunulo VR solves the problem of motion sickness and eye strain that is common among the first generation of virtual reality headsets. The cardboard frame houses two precision-engineered lenses that users can adjust to accommodate their unique visual parameters. Even users who wear glasses can see images in clear focus, thanks to the Nunulo VR.
More information about NOONBiT, the company behind this innovative device, is available at http://www.nunulo.com.
"I've noticed that most VR head mount devices on the market today are created in a manner that does not consider distinct eye conditions," says Founder and CEO James Kim, who has leveraged a background in optometry to bring a fresh perspective to the VR user experience. "This can lead to the deterioration of the eyes of users as well as headaches, dizziness and nausea. We've designed the Nunulo VR to be adjustable to each user's specific visual circumstances, which will minimize eye strain so that users can enjoy virtual reality content more comfortably."
Shortcomings of Current VR Technology
While the VR revolution is still in its early stages, early adopters have already reported problems ranging from dizziness and nausea to headaches and eye fatigue. These symptoms are the result of several factors, and can surface after only 10 or 15 minutes of use. For one thing, most VR lenses are made of a non-coated acrylic material, which is hard on the eyes. In addition, lenses tend to fog up and amplify the strain and hindrance to the visual field. It's even possible that the current lineup of popular VR devices could cause eyesight deterioration over the long term.
Unfortunately, the first generation of VR headsets have been designed as one-size-fits-all devices that can't be adjusted. But when it comes to vision, one size does not fit all. That fact was the chief inspiration behind Kim's invention of the Nunulo VR device.
The Nunulo VR Solution
The Nunulo VR has been engineered to give users a far better experience, as well as open up the world of virtual reality to those who have been excluded by other devices. The science is straightforward; the human eye has two key mechanisms for perceiving images, convergence and focus. Nunulo VR supports both of these mechanisms, all but significantly reduces chances of experiencing motion sickness.
The Nunulo VR's breakthrough is its adjustable lenses. Users can move the lenses from side to side to fit the distance between their pupils, and then rotate the lenses to bring images into sharp focus. The result is a crystal-clear, immersive and fun VR experience. The lens frame will also accommodate new types of lenses currently in development. Nunulo VR supports all smartphones with screen sizes ranging from 4 to 6 inches.
Today, Nunulo VR is a consumer-ready product. Those who have tested the device report great experiences. Several of these testimonials can be seen on the Kickstarter page. To achieve large-scale production and get Nunulo VR to the masses, NOONBiT is asking for the community's support through Kickstarter (http://kck.st/2a5e1bH). When the Kickstarter campaign funding goal is achieved, the company anticipates manufacturing and delivery of the first devices to be complete in November of this year. Kickstarter perks include a super early bird special of $29, which includes one pair of lenses and one cardboard frame. Large packages are available for business and educational purposes.
The Nunulo VR team has plans to continue researching developing unique VR and information technology experiences, with an eye toward delivering superior - and safer - user experiences. "We believe that effective execution of our creative ideas and inventions are achieved through kindness, respect and consideration of others, and we strive to live out this philosophy every day," concludes Kim.

Other features include native 4K resolution of 4096 x 2400, up to 5000 lumens(1) and Canon's LCOS Technology with AISYS-enhancement for brilliant, high-brightness and detailed image reproduction. The REALiS 4K501ST also offers a Genuine Canon 4K lens and a robust collection of advanced image adjustment and professional install setting features, including Marginal Focus which helps ensure content projected on the peripheral portions of domed surfaces remains in focus. At only 39.6 pounds, this model also offers one of the most compact and lightweight form factors of a high brightness 4K projector.
The REALiS 4K501ST projector's compact size, capability to reproduce 4K content at 60Hz via a single HDMI cable(2), and its impressive combination of outstanding image quality and advanced features make this product accessible to a wide range of markets from museums and galleries to higher education, and specialized applications like immersive simulation and training which require amazing image quality but may have limited spacing.
"4K projection display is becoming ever more popular and by offering enhanced connectivity, Canon will be able to reach new markets interested in 4K projection technology," said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and chief operating officer, Canon U.S.A., Inc. "This projector's highly detailed 4K resolution, LCOS Technology, advanced Canon optical and image processing technologies, and versatile performance help empower users to bring content to life."
Native 4K Resolution
At 4096 x 2400, the REALiS 4K501ST projector's native 4K resolution is made up of more than 9.8 million pixels - higher than the Digital Cinema Initiative (DCI) standard for 4K cinema (4096 x 2160) and more than QFHD (3840 x 2160), the resolution standard for 4K TV. This higher resolution can be a critical factor for those applications like simulation and training and design and engineering, which may require larger vertical display areas.
Genuine Canon 4K Lens
The 4K501ST projector comes equipped with a specially designed Genuine Canon 4K short focus wide zoom lens and throw ratio of 1.0 - 1.3:1, allowing it to project a 10-foot wide image from an approximate distance of only 10 feet. This projection lens possesses advanced spherical focus capabilities derived from Canon's renowned L-Series EF camera lenses which is distinguished by a bold red ring around the outer barrel. The lens delivers superb performance due to such sophisticated Canon optical technologies as ultra-low dispersion (UD) glass, aspherical lens elements and super spectra multi lens coatings. The lens also includes a Marginal Focus feature which helps ensure content projected on the peripheral portions of domed surfaces remains in focus.
LCOS Technology with AISYS-enhancement
The 4K501ST is the newest member of the REALiS Projector series which all feature Canon's LCOS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) Technology with AISYS-enhancement. This advanced technology, which is achieved by Canon's proprietary AISYS (Aspectual Illumination System) Optical Engine maximizing the performance of three LCOS panels, is renowned for delivering virtually seamless images with outstanding color reproduction, and low-latency playback for improved display of video content. This unique engine is critical in helping to ensure the 4K501ST projector delivers an ideal combination of both brightness (up to 5000 lumens) and contrast ratio (up to 3000:1), while also helping the projector maintain a small form factor - a very important issue for applications with limited spacing, and those that may require an upgrade of an existing lower resolution unit of similar size.
The 4K501ST projector is also able to deliver a virtually consistent level of brightness throughout its zoom range thanks to the combination of the AISYS Optical Engine and the advanced optical technologies found within the projector's Genuine Canon 4K lens.
Image Processing
The REALiS 4K501ST projector also integrates powerful dual image processing engines that execute such complex tasks as smooth reproduction of uncompressed 4K video at up to 60 fps, and two upscaling technologies, BiCubic and Canon's proprietary Sharp Trace which detects contours of an image in a diagonal direction and performs interpolation, to help optimize 2K video and other non-native 4K resolution content.
Advanced image adjustments and system settings on the REALiS 4K501ST also include the following optional features:
-- Dynamic Gamma: analyzes individual areas of an image for specific,
independent contrast adjustment so light and dark areas do not appear
over- or underexposed.
-- Memory Color Correction: enhances skin tones and other color features
for rich, vivid results that look striking to the human eye.
-- Motion Blur Reduction: offers three different modes (Strong, Low and
Off) for improved visibility when video content movement is fast(3).
The Canon REALiS 4K501ST projector also offers six different pre-set image modes, as well as three customizable image modes, to help optimize quality based on content type and projection environment. The projector's special DICOM® Simulation Mode can be ideal for displaying monochrome digital X-rays, CAT scans, and MRIs with superb grayscale gradation. This mode, which offers both clear and blue base color temperature presets, simulates the results of devices compliant with the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) Part 14 standard(4).
Ease of Installation and Maintenance
The small form factor and weight (39.6 pounds) of the Canon REALiS 4K501ST projector allows this model to be installed in a wide range of applications and environments. Motorized Lens Shift, Zoom and Focus, 360-degree Vertical Installation(5), 4-Point Keystone Correction and a variety of other advanced professional calibration settings provide further installation versatility, including:
-- Built-in Edge Blending: enables the projection of one seamless, large
image from multiple projectors without the need of special software.
-- Advanced Registration: allows independent position adjustment of the
three primary colors (RGB) with high accuracy (0.1 Pixel) ultimately
helping to reduce blurred colors or lines often projected at the edge of
an image.
Versatile Connectivity
Generous industry-standard connectivity on the Canon REALiS 4K501ST projector includes two HDMI (version 2.0) and four DVI inputs supporting single, stripe and cross configurations for 4K, 2K or HD video playback. This model also supports PJLink(TM) which makes it possible to control and monitor the projector over a network, making it easier than ever to observe lamp hours, usage and more. For even more control, the REALiS 4K501ST projector is a Crestron Connected® device and support AMX® Device Discovery.
Price and Availability
The Canon REALiS 4K501ST Pro AV LCOS Projector has a suggested list price of $58,990 and is scheduled to be available through authorized Canon dealers by October(*). The Canon REALiS 4K501ST is backed by the Canon Projector and Lamp Limited Warranty, and the Company's award-winning Professional Service & Support which includes a Three-Year Advanced Warranty Exchange Service Program and a Service Loaner Program.

New Compact MXK-F219 From Zhone Technologies Reaches New Heights With Size-to-Performance Ratio Compared to Previous Models
OAKLAND, Calif., July 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Zhone Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZHNE) has introduced the MXK-F219, an aggregation platform that supports fiber-based triple play services in a compact chassis that is 86 percent smaller than previous MXK-F models. The MXK-F219 is designed to support up to 160 Gigabits per second (Gbps) of network interface capacity.
"We introduced the MXK-F219 to our series of aggregation platforms as part of a commitment to design equipment that will work for next generation services," said Eric Presworsky, chief technology officer for Zhone Technologies. "This advanced platform is versatile and can be used for enterprise environments and service provider applications alike, to optimize networks for future advancements."
Designed on the same architecture as the first two MXK-F14xx chassis introduced in October 2015, the MXK-F219 platform is built for advanced optical networks and designed to support bandwidth-hungry services but in a smaller footprint. MXK-F14xx models measure 14 rack units (RU), whereas the MXK-F219 measures 2 RU. The MXK-F219 has redundant pluggable AC power supplies so there is no need for the additional rectifier equipment that is required for larger MXK-F platforms, further reducing the required rack space making it an ideal solution for enterprise environments. The new platform also supports the same services as the MXK-F14xx chassis, including Gigabit Passive Optical Networks (GPON), Active Ethernet, XG(S)PON and NGPON2 services.
The MXK-F219 supports two line cards and mounts in a 19-inch rack, offering customers a more cost-effective, lower-density solution than previous MXK-F models. The model can support up to 128-splits per Optical Line Terminal (OLT) port, and more than 4,000 Optical Network Terminals (ONT). Additionally, in FiberLAN applications, one MXK-F219 chassis can support up to 16,000 Ethernet ports.

Multi-Channel Appeal of Scientific Games Jackpot Party and Gold Fish Brands Building Fan Base, Driving Lottery Instant Games Sales
Popularity of Lottery, Interactive and Casino Game Experiences Demonstrates Cross-Over Appeal and Unique Availability of Company's Entertainment Content
LAS VEGAS and ATLANTA, July 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Scientific Games Corporation ("Scientific Games" or the "Company") today announced that two of the Company's popular casino games brands are proving their multi-channel appeal since debuting as lottery games earlier this year. Jackpot Party®, a Scientific Games brand featured in slots and interactive gaming products, debuted as a lottery game on a $5 instant game created for the New York Lottery in February. The new Jackpot Party instant game has established a strong following with New York players. The company's multi-channel Gold Fish® brand is also showing its cross-channel appeal after debuting on a $2 Ohio Lottery instant game in March. After eight weeks, the Gold Fish instant game performed better than all other $2 Ohio Lottery instant games offered in the last fiscal year.
With a top prize of $500,000 to $1 million, the all-new New York Lottery Jackpot Party instant game offers players unique entertainment experiences across the lottery, interactive and casino game experiences. The lottery instant game features a bonus game on the back of the ticket with five more chances to win cash prizes instantly. Players can scan a QR code on the ticket with their mobile phone to go directly to the Jackpot Party second-chance promotion on the New York Lottery Sweepstakes website. They can also download and play the exciting Jackpot Party mobile/social game from the site. To participate in the promotion, players enter codes from their non-winning Jackpot Party instant games for a chance to win a Grand Prize VIP trip to New York City for an exclusive Jackpot Party event where they can win up to $25,000 cash. Other prizes include Jackpot Party instant game prize packs, New York Lottery gift cards, and Jackpot Party free-play vouchers redeemable at New York racinos.
Gardner Gurney, Director of the New York Lottery, said, "We are always searchng for ways to work collectively with the video gaming facilities within New York and Jackpot Party has offered us this opportunity. As a game offered at some of the video gaming venues in New York, this game was perfect for crossing over to our lottery portfolio. Just as video gaming customers expect bonusing opportunities, the back of the Jackpot Party instant game offers lottery players similar bonus opportunities to win. New York players have been receptive to the instant game, we see Jackpot Party as a brand with omni-channel appeal."
The Ohio Lottery's Gold Fish instant game connects the lottery retail experience to a highly-engaging, interactive second-chance game with social sharing components. Players enter non-winning tickets online for the chance to win $20,000 prizes. The interactive game takes players on an under-the-sea adventure with the opportunity to win instant cash prizes of $25 and $50, as well as virtual coins, fish food, gear and decor. Players advance through various levels of challenges and achievements in the animated game by "feeding" their virtual pet gold fish and creating a healthy undersea environment. Social log-in and leaderboards allow players to compete and post their scores and wins, deepening the game experience.
Dennis Berg, Director of the Ohio Lottery, said, "The Gold Fish brand is a popular VLT game in our Ohio racinos, so it was a natural cross-over to a lottery instant game. The Gold Fish instant game is performing well in our $2 game category."
Michael Lightman, Senior Vice President, Lottery Interactive at Scientific Games, said, "This is really the beginning of some fantastic cross-over brand innovation developed by Scientific Games since the integration of Bally(TM) and WMS® content following our mergers. Our player motivation-based segmentation study across lottery and gaming consumers in Europe and the U.S. showed us that 74 percent of casino slot machine players also play lottery instant games. Incorporating our popular casino brands into lottery products introduces lottery to other gaming enthusiasts while the innovative game attributes designed into these new games will help deepen engagement with existing players ."
The Company provides games, technology and services to more than 1,500 lottery and casino customers globally.
Scientific Games Corporation (NASDAQ: SGMS) is a leading developer of technology-based products and services and associated content for worldwide gaming, lottery, and interactive markets.
