DJI Brings Micro Four-Thirds Imagery Back to Earth with the Osmo RAW
New accessories enhance imaging, stabilization and power-management
LAS VEGAS, April 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- DJI, the world's leading aerial imagery company, Sunday announced it will offer its best-in-class Micro Four-Thirds Zenmuse X5R camera for use with the Osmo, the imaging stabilization system that has transformed handheld photography and video.
The new system, known as the Osmo RAW, uses the same technology DJI launched last month on the Inspire 1 RAW aerial to bring unmatched cinematic-quality stabilized video to the skies.
"When we launched the Osmo, we reimagined motion," said Senior Product Manager Paul Pan. "With the DJI Osmo RAW, we've gone even further. Now, creators and filmmakers will no longer have to choose between image quality and image stability, no matter from what perspective they're shooting."
The X5R will attach to the Osmo handle via an adaptor and store video on a removable 512GB solid-state drive. Gimbal motors will ensure image stability on three axes, with pan and tilt functions accessible either by using the Osmo's thumb stick or through the DJI GO app. Users can also control the X5R's focus and aperture inside the iOS or Android app or using an optional DJI Focus unit.
The X5R is the world's smallest, lossless 4K camera optimized for aerial imaging. It has 12.8 stops of dynamic range, an ISO range from 100 to 25,600, and a still-image resolution of 16 megapixels. The X5R features interchangeable lens options, with video bitrates averaging 1.7Gbps, with a maximum of 2.4Gbps. The X5R records CinemaDNG files and offers a new D-LOG mode with a broader array of color correction options in post production.
Also available for the Osmo system is the Micro Four-Thirds X5 camera and gimbal, called the Osmo Pro. It uses the same adaptor as the X5R, providing superior, stabilized video and top-quality photo imagery.
Pricing and availability of the Osmo Pro and Osmo RAW will be announced shortly.
Osmo users with the Zenmuse X3 camera also will soon have complete stabilization capability with the launch of the Z-Axis. The $129 attachment, which mounts between the X3 camera and the Osmo handle provides full stabilization along the fourth (vertical) axis, giving it the same capabilities as much more expensive Steadicam rigs. The Z-Axis features a shock absorber, a tilt angle adjust button and a knob to control the spring tension needed on the fourth axis.
DJI is also introducing two new power-management solutions for power users of the Osmo, including a higher-capacity battery that offers up to 96 minutes of shooting time at 4K resolution, an increase from up to 66 minutes using the standard Osmo battery. With the Osmo Pro, shooting time with the higher-capacity battery is up to 78 minutes, compared with up to 60 minutes with the original Osmo battery. Shooting time on the Osmo RAW is up to 37 minutes with the new, higher-capacity battery and up to 26 minutes with the original Osmo battery.
Users can charge their batteries with the standard Osmo charger or use an optional intelligent four-battery charger that will fully charge both original and higher-capacity batteries simultaneously. Four higher-capacity Osmo batteries will charge fully in around 120 minutes.
Using DJI's new, extended battery means even more shooting time with the Osmo. This solution is ideal for video journalists, photographers and filmmakers who spend hours in the field and filmmakers who require multiple takes of a scene or who set a rigorous full-day production schedule.
The battery-shaped power adaptor fits into the Osmo handle and connects to either a dedicated DJI power charger or a DJI Intelligent Battery. It supports five different DJI AC charger units, three models of DJI car chargers and six varieties of DJI drone and Ronin batteries that offer shooting times up to 14 hours on the Osmo, up to 11.7 hours on the Osmo Pro and just under five-and-a-half hours for the Osmo RAW. New M600, A3 flight controller and Ronin-MX offer unprecedented professional imaging capability
LAS VEGAS, April 17, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- DJI on Sunday introduced the Matrice 600, its next-generation aerial platform, marking a new era for professional aerial photography, filmmaking and industrial applications.
The M600 integrates DJI's brand-new A3 flight controller onboard and features advanced Lightbridge 2 video-transmission technology that offers high frame rates and HD live-streaming capability at distances up to five kilometers.
"The M600 is the most-powerful and easiest-to-use professional platform DJI has ever produced," said Senior Product Manager Paul Pan. The M600 is a six-rotor system with a maximum payload of 6.0 kilograms, making it ideal for the full range of DJI's Zenmuse gimbals, including the Z15 series and the Zenmuse X series cameras, which are unmatched in providing stabilized aerial imagery. The M600's carrying weight also allows it to fly the Ronin MX, DJI's newest handheld and aerial three-axis gimbal. The M600's propulsion system is dustproof to simplify maintenance and increase durability. It has actively cooled motors for more-reliable flight, and its landing gear is retractable for full 360-degree, unobstructed imaging.
The M600 is powered by six DJI Intelligent Batteries. Integrated A3 Flight Controller
Setting the M600 apart is its integrated A3 flight controller. It uses sine-wave-driven, intelligent electronic speed controllers to ensure the M600 performs accurately, safely and efficiently. Meanwhile, self-adaptive flight systems adjust parameters automatically, based on different payloads.
It's upgradable to the A3 PRO system, which features advanced diagnostic algorithms that compare sensor data from three Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) units and three inertial measurement units.
The A3's GNSS system can also be optionally upgraded to DJI Real-Time Kinematic technology, offering centimeter-accurate positioning to allow for complex maneuvers in an industrial setting and so that cinematic shots can be precisely replicated. The RTK technology can also withstand magnetic interference.
The M600 supports the DJI GO app, which includes a live video feed, battery and redundancy status, transmission strength and other data to keep the user informed of flight status at all times. The app also provides access to aperture, shutter speed, photo and video capture on any Zenmuse X-series camera, plus remote focus on the Zenmuse X5 and X5R cameras.
The M600 is a top-quality development platform, compatible with the DJI Onboard Software Development Kit and Mobile SDK to work with different industrial applications. Works Seamlessly with Ronin-MX
When paired with the new DJI Ronin-MX, the M600 offers best-in-class three-axis aerial video stabilization. The latest in the Ronin line is also the most-versatile, working both on the ground and in the air with minimal setup.
The Ronin-MX works perfectly with the M600, as a fully integrated system that includes the A3 flight controller, Lightbridge 2 transmission system and gimbal in the air. It's the first universal aerial gimbal DJI has made that communicates with the onboard DJI flight controller.
It's fully compatible with a rich selection of DJI accessories for long-distance focus and aperture control and features remote start/stop controls and video transmission. The Ronin-MX is built for convenient, handheld use, but it also has multiple operation modes, including underslung, upright and briefcase. Apart from the M600, it's also compatible with video cranes.

Cameras and camcorders
Sony cameras are used in every production genre at every budget level: feature films, news, documentary, episodic television, sports, commercials, OTT and more.
Sony's new HDC-4800 camera system combines 4K resolution with enhanced high frame rate capabilities -- 8x at 4K, and up to 16x in full HD. This power is combined with HD cut-out and zoom capabilities for sports and live event production. The new HDC-4800 is complemented by the BPU-4800 combination baseband processor unit/replay server creating a fully networked, 4K live ultra-high speed production workflow.
The HDC-4800 uses a new Super 35mm 4K CMOS sensor and wide color space (BT.2020 and BT.709). It supports PL mount lenses to capture high resolution, crisp images for live sports shooting. HDR support is under development and will be available in the near future.
Sony also delivers 4K through its XDCAM family. The newest addition to the XDCAM shoulder-mount camcorder lineup, PXW-Z450, captures 4K (3840 x 2160) picture quality from a new 2/3-type Exmor R(TM) CMOS sensor, with exceptional weight balance and low power consumption alongside networking features. IP
Sony is enhancing its fully interoperable IP Live Production system with Networked Media Interface (NMI). The new suite of solutions has been developed to help broadcasters make the most of IP technology, allowing them to deliver on the increasing demand for 4K live content while addressing the cost and scalability issues associated with conventional SDI live production workflows.
Sony will be demonstrating its continued commitment to delivering IP interoperability among a wide range of compatible live production products through its IP Live Alliance. The Alliance has, with the recent participation of Grass Valley, now grown to 49 vendors across the live production space, and support is continuing to grow as more broadcasters adopt IP Live.
Storage
Sony is unveiling the second generation of its Optical Disc Archive System which adopts new, high-capacity optical media developed jointly by Sony and Panasonic. This affordable new media is rated with a 100 year shelf life and doubles the capacity of a single cartridge to 3.3 TB. The Generation 2 Optical Disc Archive System also introduces an 8-channel optical drive unit, doubling the read/write speeds of the previous generation, helping to meet the data needs of real-time 4K production.
Optical Disc Archive technology is designed for use as a near-line, deep archive storage or disaster recovery systems, ranging from large scalable robotics down to stand-alone archive systems. Sony is also embracing an open platform approach for broad compatibility, providing technologies and support to encourage other manufacturers to develop complementary products for the technology. Currently, 42 companies have announced their support for Optical Disc Archive.
High Dynamic Range
At NAB 2015, Sony introduced its first 4K OLED reference monitor for critical viewing - the BVM-X300. Already, it's become the de facto reference standard for 4K and HDR grading.
This year, Sony adds a new monitor - the PVM-X550, a 55-inch, OLED panel with 12-bit signal processing, perfect for client viewing. The TRIMASTER EL(TM) PVM-X550 supports HDR through various Electro-Optical Transfer Functions (EOTF), such as S-Log3, SMPTE ST.2084 and Hybrid Log-Gamma, covering applications for both cinematography and broadcast. The PVM-X550 is a quad-view OLED monitor, which allows customized individual display settings across four distinct views in HD. It is equipped with the same signal-processing engine as the BVM-X300, providing a 12-bit output signal for picture accuracy and consistency. It also supports industry standard color spaces including the wider ITU-R BT.2020 for Ultra High Definition.

HXC-FB75 Camera -- A successor model to Sony's HXC-D70, the HXC-FB75 is a cost-effective entry level studio camera. No camera adapter is required for fiber transmission to the CCU, and Sony's HDVF interface enables smoother and sharper focusing. XDCAM Air - Sony's XDCAM technology is a standard for ENG and field production, evolving from optical disc to file-based workflows. Sony is developing new wireless workflows to support the current requirements of news production, using 4G/LTE networks for media delivery. XDCAM Air is a cloud-based ENG service that integrates existing Sony wireless solutions and adds new features such as a mobile application, live streaming edit integration with NLE and enhanced remote control capabilities.
New UWP-D Wireless Microphone System - Sony's URX-P03D is the first 2-channel portable receiver in its UWP-D series, eliminating the need to attach two receivers on a camcorder, especially smaller models, making them unbalanced and unwieldy. The URX-P03D receiver supports an external input for an additional wired microphone, such as Sony's BMP type lavalier microphones or conventional plug-in-power supported microphones. 3-channel mixer functionality is included for blending audio signals in the receiver.
