How Sharp's UCCT Ensures Uniformity of Color and Brightness
1. A 3D "pixel to pixel" MURA correction is performed on the factory
production line using SHARP UCCT software (Uniform Color Calibration
Technology). Using the very accurate L*ab methodology, all chromatic,
luminance and hue values are calculated to remove any MURA impurity from
the entire display screen area achieving a consistent uniformity of white
and all colors, across each display from screen edge to center and
between all displays across the entire video wall.
2. This advanced MURA correction process is eventually saved onto a unique
combination of separate Look Up Tables (LUT) on board every PN-V550
display, (i.e. known as "hardware calibration"), permanently saving and
applying all correction data to obtain a consistent and uniform color
rendering across each display from screen edge to center, and between all
displays across the entire video wall, regardless of any input signal the
display is fed from.
3. In addition to UCCT MURA correction, Sharp's factory calibration process
adjusts the white point and colors to a pre-defined common temperature
target across each display from screen edge to center, and between all
displays across the entire video wall.

Texas Certifies New Voting Technology Verity Voting System Passes Rigorous Review

The MGC3130 with Microchip's award-winning GestIC technology was the first electrical-field-based 3D gesture controller to offer low-power, precise, and robust hand position tracking at 200 Hz. In addition, GestIC technology utilises advanced Hidden Markov Models to ensure that the recognition rate for 3D hand gestures is above 95%. Free-space hand gestures are universal, hygienic and easy to learn, making them ideal for display applications.

DJI Launches New Era of Intelligent Flying Cameras
New DJI Phantom 4 features obstacle avoidance, intelligent tracking and a simplified flying experience
NEW YORK, March 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- DJI, the world's leading maker of unmanned aerial vehicles, on Tuesday launched the Phantom 4, the first consumer quadcopter camera (or "drone") to use highly advanced computer vision and sensing technology to make professional aerial imaging easier for everyone.
The Phantom 4 expands on previous generations of DJI's iconic Phantom line by adding new on-board intelligence that make piloting and shooting great shots simple through features like its Obstacle Sensing System, ActiveTrack and TapFly functionality.
"With the Phantom 4, we are entering an era where even beginners can fly with confidence," said DJI CEO Frank Wang. "People have dreamed about one day having a drone collaborate creatively with them. That day has arrived."
The Phantom 4's Obstacle Sensing System features two forward-facing optical sensors that scan for obstacles and automatically direct the aircraft around the impediment when possible, reducing risk of collision, while ensuring flight direction remains constant. If the system determines the craft cannot go around the obstacle, it will slow to a stop and hover until the user redirects it. Obstacle avoidance also engages if the user triggers the drone's "Return to Home" function to reduce the risk of collision when automatically flying back to its take off point.
With ActiveTrack, the Phantom 4 breaks new ground, allowing users running the DJI Go app on iOS and Android devices to follow and keep the camera centered on the subject as it moves simply by tapping the subject on their smartphone or tablet. Perfectly-framed shots of moving joggers or cyclists, for example, simply require activating the ActiveTrack mode in the app.
The Phantom 4 understands three-dimensional images and uses machine learning to keep the object in the shot, even when the subject changes its shape or turns while moving. Users have full control over camera movement while in ActiveTrack mode - and can even move the camera around the object while it is in motion as the Phantom 4 keeps the subject framed in the center of the shot autonomously. A "pause" button on the Phantom 4's remote controller allows the user to halt an autonomous flight at any time, leaving the drone to hover.
By using the TapFly function in the DJI Go app, users can double-tap a destination for their Phantom 4 on the screen, and the Phantom 4 calculates an optimal flight route to reach the destination, while avoiding any obstructions in its path. Tap another spot and the Phantom 4 will smoothly transition towards that destination making even the beginner pilot look like a seasoned professional.
The Phantom 4's camera, still the world's best aerial-optimized 4K imaging device, has undergone an upgrade that includes improved optics for better corner sharpness and reduced chromatic aberration. The Phantom 4 also has DJI's signature Lightbridge video transmission system onboard, allowing users to see what their camera sees in HD and in real-time on their smart devices at a distance up to five kilometers (3.1 miles).
The Phantom 4's form factor, still the classic quadcopter style pioneered by DJI, has been redesigned and redefined to emphasize elegance and smoother, more-aerodynamic lines. Its frame incorporates a lightweight composite core to provide enhanced stability and more-agile flight. The core now features a redesigned gimbal that provides more stability and vibration dampening, and has been repositioned for a better center of gravity and to reduce the risk of propellers getting in the shot.
Refinements to motor efficiency, power management and a new intelligent battery have extended the Phantom 4's flight time to 28 minutes, which means more time in the air to capture professional photos and video.
DJI crafted the Phantom 4 with reliability in mind, including redundant inertial measurement units (IMUs) and dual compasses onboard. It uses new push-and-lock propellers that are faster to install and more secure in flight.
In addition to intelligence and ease-of-use, the Phantom 4 is built for fun. Its new "Sport Mode" for advanced flyers gives a taste of what drone racing feels like. In "Sport Mode," the Phantom 4 can fly 20 meters per second (45 miles per hour) and ascends and descends more rapidly than in other modes. The craft's acceleration and top speed in "Sport Mode" also mean it can reach locations for shots faster and capture shots you couldn't get before.

VESA Publishes DisplayPort(TM) Standard Version 1.4
DP 1.4 features Display Stream Compression 1.2 transport, Forward Error Correction, enhanced display resolution and expanded audio transport capabilities
SAN JOSE, Calif., March 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA(®)) today announced it has published version 1.4 of the DisplayPort (DP) audio/video standard. The first major update to DisplayPort since version 1.3 was released in September 2014, DP 1.4 is also the first DP standard to take advantage of VESA's Display Stream Compression (DSC) technology. DSC version 1.2 transport enables up to 3:1 compression ratio and has been deemed, through VESA membership testing, to be visually lossless. Together with other new capabilities, this makes the latest version of DP ideally suited for implementation in high-end electronic products demanding premier sound and image quality.
DisplayPort is a packet-based, extensible protocol for transporting video and audio data. Initially introduced as a new external interface, its flexibility has enabled its adaptation to embedded displays and incorporation into other connectors like the new reversible USB Type-C(TM) interface and Thunderbolt(TM). Its Multi-Stream Transport (MST) capability enables high-resolution support of multiple monitors on a single display interface.
In September 2014, VESA published DP 1.3, which has been the baseline for new system development. DP 1.3 increased the maximum link bandwidth to 32.4 Gbps, with each of four lanes running at a link rate of 8.1 Gbps/lane, a 50-percent increase over the previous DP 1.2a specification. DP 1.3 added extra protocol flexibility to enable more seamless operation over the USB Type-C connector in the form of the DisplayPort Alt Mode. The increased link rate increased the uncompressed display resolution support up to 5K x 3K (5120x2880), and also upped the MST resolution, enabling simultaneous use of two 4K UHD monitors, each with a pixel resolution of 3840x2160, when using VESA Coordinated Video Timing.
DP 1.4 further builds on the capabilities of the standard's prior incarnations. The use of video transport compression enhances the ability to take advantage of the USB Type-C connector, enabling both high-definition video and SuperSpeed USB, while also facilitating High Dynamic Range (HDR) and 8K video across the DisplayPort or USB-C connector. Examples of increased display resolution with the new standard include 8Kp60Hz HDR deep color and 4Kp120Hz HDR deep color. Other key new features include:
-- Forward Error Correction - FEC, which overlays the DSC 1.2 transport,
addresses the transport error resiliency needed for compressed video
transport to external displays.
-- HDR meta transport - HDR meta transport uses the "secondary data packet"
transport inherent in the DisplayPort standard to provide support for
the current CTA 861.3 standard, which is useful for DP to HDMI 2.0a
protocol conversion, among other examples. It also offers a flexible
metadata packet transport to support future dynamic HDR standards.

as 32 audio channels, 1536kHz sample rate, and inclusion of all known
audio formats.

DJI Launches New Era of Intelligent Flying Cameras
New DJI Phantom 4 features obstacle avoidance, intelligent tracking and a simplified flying experience
NEW YORK, March 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- DJI, the world's leading maker of unmanned aerial vehicles, on Tuesday launched the Phantom 4, the first consumer quadcopter camera (or "drone") to use highly advanced computer vision and sensing technology to make professional aerial imaging easier for everyone.
The Phantom 4 expands on previous generations of DJI's iconic Phantom line by adding new on-board intelligence that make piloting and shooting great shots simple through features like its Obstacle Sensing System, ActiveTrack and TapFly functionality.
"With the Phantom 4, we are entering an era where even beginners can fly with confidence," said DJI CEO Frank Wang. "People have dreamed about one day having a drone collaborate creatively with them. That day has arrived."
The Phantom 4's Obstacle Sensing System features two forward-facing optical sensors that scan for obstacles and automatically direct the aircraft around the impediment when possible, reducing risk of collision, while ensuring flight direction remains constant. If the system determines the craft cannot go around the obstacle, it will slow to a stop and hover until the user redirects it. Obstacle avoidance also engages if the user triggers the drone's "Return to Home" function to reduce the risk of collision when automatically flying back to its take off point.
With ActiveTrack, the Phantom 4 breaks new ground, allowing users running the DJI Go app on iOS and Android devices to follow and keep the camera centered on the subject as it moves simply by tapping the subject on their smartphone or tablet. Perfectly-framed shots of moving joggers or cyclists, for example, simply require activating the ActiveTrack mode in the app.
The Phantom 4 understands three-dimensional images and uses machine learning to keep the object in the shot, even when the subject changes its shape or turns while moving. Users have full control over camera movement while in ActiveTrack mode - and can even move the camera around the object while it is in motion as the Phantom 4 keeps the subject framed in the center of the shot autonomously. A "pause" button on the Phantom 4's remote controller allows the user to halt an autonomous flight at any time, leaving the drone to hover.
By using the TapFly function in the DJI Go app, users can double-tap a destination for their Phantom 4 on the screen, and the Phantom 4 calculates an optimal flight route to reach the destination, while avoiding any obstructions in its path. Tap another spot and the Phantom 4 will smoothly transition towards that destination making even the beginner pilot look like a seasoned professional.
The Phantom 4's camera, still the world's best aerial-optimized 4K imaging device, has undergone an upgrade that includes improved optics for better corner sharpness and reduced chromatic aberration. The Phantom 4 also has DJI's signature Lightbridge video transmission system onboard, allowing users to see what their camera sees in HD and in real-time on their smart devices at a distance up to five kilometers (3.1 miles).
The Phantom 4's form factor, still the classic quadcopter style pioneered by DJI, has been redesigned and redefined to emphasize elegance and smoother, more-aerodynamic lines. Its frame incorporates a lightweight composite core to provide enhanced stability and more-agile flight. The core now features a redesigned gimbal that provides more stability and vibration dampening, and has been repositioned for a better center of gravity and to reduce the risk of propellers getting in the shot.
Refinements to motor efficiency, power management and a new intelligent battery have extended the Phantom 4's flight time to 28 minutes, which means more time in the air to capture professional photos and video.
DJI crafted the Phantom 4 with reliability in mind, including redundant inertial measurement units (IMUs) and dual compasses onboard. It uses new push-and-lock propellers that are faster to install and more secure in flight.
In addition to intelligence and ease-of-use, the Phantom 4 is built for fun. Its new "Sport Mode" for advanced flyers gives a taste of what drone racing feels like. In "Sport Mode," the Phantom 4 can fly 20 meters per second (45 miles per hour) and ascends and descends more rapidly than in other modes. The craft's acceleration and top speed in "Sport Mode" also mean it can reach locations for shots faster and capture shots you couldn't get before.

Affectiva enters gaming market with its emotion AI technology to deliver on promise of emotion-aware games
Powers emotion-aware features in Nevermind game, receives gaming patent, delivers Unity plugin, and exhibits at GDC
BOSTON, March 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Affectiva, the pioneer in emotion-sensing and analytics technology built on industry-leading Emotion AI science, enters the gaming market to enable emotion-aware games and robust game analytics in an accessible and scalable manner.
Flying Mollusk, the game studio that uses emerging technology to create entertaining and impactful games, has integrated Affectiva's emotion-sensing technology with its psychological thriller game Nevermind. Using Affectiva's Affdex SDK, Nevermind can sense a player's facial expressions for signs of emotional distress. Nevermind uses biofeedback to make the game more surreal and challenging when players feel scared or nervous. For example, if players cannot manage their stress or fear, rooms might flood, spikes might jut out from the floor, or the screen might fill with increasingly dense static. However, once the biofeedback algorithms determine that the player has calmed down, the game becomes easier and more forgiving. This indirectly teaches the player real, applied techniques that they can use to help manage feelings of stress and anxiety in their everyday lives.
