Nikon's Top 25 Microscopic Photos

Nikon has hosted it's Small World photomicrography competition, and has chosen the top 25 images in this contest. Some of these are pretty impressive, and worth checking out. Heck, there are some of the images that would make some awesome desktop pictures for your computer!
The picture below is the olfactory bulbs magnified 250 times from the Zebrafish by Oliver Braubach, at the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada.

Microsoft Wants You to Use Their Photo Standard

"Microsoft...intends to standardize the technology and will be submitting HD Photo to an appropriate standards organization shortly," the company said in a statement. The company plans to announce the move Thursday at the Photo Marketing Association trade show in Las Vegas.
The standardization move makes sense, given Microsoft's ambitions, said InfoTrends analyst Ed Lee. "If Microsoft is looking for wider adoption of the format, it needs to be divorced from Microsoft itself," he said. "They're going to have to loosen the strings on it."

This is bull. There is already too many formats in between JPEG and RAW, and this one doesn't seem to do anything spectacular that PNG doesn't already do. This sounds more like an answer to a question no one asked than a revolutionary standard.
