Millions of servers in data centers worldwide generate huge amounts of heat while
handling and processing data. Conventional server cooling technology involves high air
speeds of 8-9 metres per second. Moving air at this speed requires a lot of energy and can
trigger the Venturi-effect, which leads to air pressure variations and the "hot spots"
that can cause servers to overheat.
Alfa Laval has introduced a unique and patented cooling concept, Low Speed Ventilation,
which delivers air at a considerably lower speed: 1.5 to 1.8 meters per second. Reducing
air speed and delivering an optimum airflow eliminates the Venturi effect, minimizes
pressure differences and therefore prevents problems such as 'hot spots'. As LSV is a
normal pressure technology, data center operators only need to control air availability,
not air pressure, making it far easier to achieve optimum conditions in the server room.
As significant amounts of air are required for Low Speed Ventilation, LSV coolers are
larger than conventional coolers. Alfa Laval Arctigo LSV air coolers are specially
designed with a large cross-sectional area. Located outside the server room, these coolers
ensure the servers are supplied with sufficient temperature-controlled air at all times,
while consuming far less power than conventional server cooling solutions.

Olympus Receives 510(k) Clearance for TJF-Q180V Duodenoscope
CENTER VALLEY, Pa., Jan. 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Olympus announced today that FDA has cleared the 510(k) for the TJF-Q180V duodenoscope with modifications to the device design and labeling. The duodenoscope is a flexible gastrointestinal endoscope used in procedures such as endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), which is most commonly performed to diagnose and treat conditions in the pancreas, bile duct and gallbladder.
Beginning in early February, Olympus will implement a corrective action in the U.S. for current TJF-Q180V duodenoscopes. These changes involve new parameters that were reviewed by FDA prior to 510(k) clearance. The corrective action includes replacing the forceps elevator mechanism with a new forceps elevator design.
Detailed instructions about how to complete this process will be sent to customers via Federal Express on January 15, 2016. In the meantime, more information can be found here. Healthcare facilities should continue to use the TJF-Q180V duodenoscope until the forceps elevator mechanism is replaced.
Additionally, the corrective action includes an updated Operation Manual and Reprocessing Manual for the TJF-Q180V. The Operation Manual contains new information on the required inspection of the device before and after patient procedures that must be performed by the healthcare facility. The Reprocessing Manual includes updated reprocessing instructions, including information on the use of Acecide-C High-Level Disinfectant when disinfecting the TJF-Q180V in the OER-Pro and a new chapter (Chapter 6) regarding annual inspections by Olympus service personnel.
The new reprocessing measures should be implemented as soon as possible. Healthcare facilities can download the new manuals from the OlympusConnect website. New printed manuals will be available for distribution in February.
Olympus intends to implement the replacement of the forceps elevator mechanism and provide updated manuals in all other markets with this device in the coming months.

Over 35% are motivated by music with another 34% saying that the buzz they feel post-workout is what inspires them most. To succeed, 68% revealed they would almost certainly consider investing in some sort of technology to keep them on track. 57% would most likely purchase new sports ear phones and 39% would invest in a fitness tracker or GPS device.

The most recent edition to Anritsu's interference detecting tools, the MS27101A can be used with Anritsu's Vision(TM) software to create a highly accurate remote solution for government regulators and university lab researchers to identify interference patterns, record spectrum history and geo-locate the sources of problem signals to mitigate interference issues and identify illegal or unlicensed signal activity.
The MS27101A Remote Spectrum Monitor addresses the market need for an accurate remote solution for white space monitoring, harm claim threshold detection, in-building interference monitoring, positive train control system protection and locating illegal/unlicensed signal sources or similar interference. Housed in a half-rack enclosure, the MS27101A is ideal for spectrum monitoring where a small footprint is required.
The MS27101A is capable of sweeping at rates up to 24 GHz/s, allowing capture of intermittent signals, including periodic or transient transmissions as well as short "bursty" signals. High dynamic range of >106 dB normalized to 1 Hz BW, 20 MHz instantaneous bandwidth, high sensitivity and low spurious signals allow the MS27101A to reliably monitor low-level signals. Power consumption is typically less than 11 Watts, which allows the MS27101A to be powered by solar cells in remote locations.
When used with the optional Vision software, the MS27101A Remote Spectrum Monitor can record spectrum history and geo-locate the signal of interest. Three or more MS27101A monitors are needed to approximate the position of the interfering signal. Vision software provides complete command and control of all spectrum monitoring probes deployed in the field. The software operates on Windows-based PCs/servers, communicating with the MS27101A via Gigabit Ethernet or a USB cellular modem.
Similar to the other remote spectrum monitors available from Anritsu, the MS27101A is designed for robust field deployments, with capabilities for remote power cycling, automated system recovery protocols and secure firmware updates "pushed" to the monitor remotely. In the event of an application error or power fluctuation that causes an interruption in monitor communication, a re-boot policy is implemented to reset the remote probe to its previous state.
An integrated web server is embedded into the MS27101A that allows the Remote Spectrum Monitor to be accessed by users anywhere in the world via an Internet browser. After logging in, full control is possible. Simultaneously, trace data, spectrograms and other measurements can be viewed inside the browser window.
Anritsu's Remote Spectrum Monitor family also includes the MS27102A and MS27103A. The MS27102A is an IP67-rated full-featured platform designed for outdoor applications.
