Broadcom Announces New Switch Chipsets to Drive 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet into the Enterprise
Higher Port Speeds Deliver Faster Data Rates Offered by 802.11ac Wave 2 Wi-Fi
IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Broadcom Corporation (NASDAQ: BRCM), a global innovation leader in semiconductor solutions for wired and wireless communications today announced new enterprise Ethernet switches designed to deliver the faster data rates offered by 802.11ac Wave 2 Wi-Fi. Built on Broadcom's StrataXGS(®) architecture, the BCM56060 and BCM56160 enable OEMs to design cost-optimized network switches that enable high speed, robust Internet access across both traditional and new all-wireless enterprise networks. For more news, visit Broadcom's Newsroom.
The increased wireless speeds delivered by 802.11ac Wave 2 are exceeding the performance of today's broadly deployed Gigabit Ethernet (GbE), driving enterprises to upgrade network edge switches. The most cost-effective solution is to run 2.5G Ethernet to the access point, thereby unlocking faster wireless speeds and enabling higher bandwidth without needing to re-cable an entire network. Broadcom's new switches address the upgrade needs for both traditional and all-wireless enterprises, and are designed to work with Broadcom's BCM84868 2.5 Gbps Ethernet PHY.
The new BCM56160 is the industry's most integrated Ethernet switch chipset for traditional wired enterprises where desktop terminals, voice-over-IP phones and wireless access points are all connected. The BCM56160 enterprise switch adds 2.5 GbE access point connections to the popular 24 and 48 port Gigabit Ethernet form factors. To accommodate higher Wi-Fi traffic, the device also integrates more high speed 10 Gigabit interfaces for fiber uplinks and delivers double the stacking bandwidth of previous generation devices.
For the all-wireless office built primarily on Wi-Fi access points with few wired terminals, Broadcom's BCM56060 is the first switch product family optimized for 802.11ac Wave 2 enterprise environments. The BCM56060 enables a smaller form factor with low power consumption, providing multi-mode 1 GbE/2.5 GbE Ethernet interfaces with 10 Gigabit uplinks. Because it is designed to connect primarily to access points instead of wired PCs and phones, it cuts cost by eliminating the legacy 1 GbE Ethernet links.
"There's a strong 2.5G Ethernet ramp expected in the coming 5 years," said Alan Weckel, VP Ethernet Switch Analyst at Dell Oro. "We expect 5 million 2.5G ports to be deployed next year and up to 25 million by 2019, driven by the transition to 802.11ac Wave 2 Wi-Fi."
"Broadcom continues to partner with worldwide equipment manufacturers to deliver the most comprehensive portfolio for enterprise networking," said Nick Kucharewski, Broadcom Vice President, Network Switch Marketing. "Our new switch products enable a converged wired/wireless enterprise and deliver highly optimized 2.5 GbE solutions for high density wireless deployments."
"The new Broadcom 2.5 GbE product lines are well aligned with near-term customer demand for faster converged wireless access points and switches, and help us to serve our customers as they upgrade their equipment to the latest Wi-Fi standard," said Eric Broockman, CTO and EVP Engineering at Extreme Networks.

IBM's Watson Forecasts Trends and Products for Holiday Season
New Cognitive App Uncovers Consumer Preferences Behind Most Talked About Gifts
ARMONK, N.Y., Nov. 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM (NYSE: IBM) today launched the IBM Watson Trend App, a new way for shoppers to understand the reasons behind the top trends of the holiday season and also predict the hottest products before they sell out. The app is available via a free download at the Apple App Store.
The IBM Watson Trend app distills the sentiment of tens of millions of online conversations by scouring 10,000 sources across social media sites, blogs, forums, comments, ratings and reviews. Unlike other apps or lists that provide a static ranking of "hot" products, the Watson app reveals how consumers feel about the products they are considering or have purchased.
Using Watson's understanding of natural language and machine learning technologies, the app uncovers consumer preferences to pinpoint patterns and trends to reveal why people are choosing certain products or brands. The app also uses predictive analytics to forecast if a particular trend is a fleeting fad or will continue to remain strong.
To uncover insights behind the top holiday trends and products, Watson's natural language engine aggregates insights into distinct trend groups: content, context and sentiment. Each group is given a relative daily Trend Score, ranging from 0 to 100, based on the impact (size of the conversation) and the momentum (the rate of growth of the conversation).
Users can view the top 100 trending products and stories behind them across three categories - consumer electronics, toys and health and fitness. As of November 18, the top trends include:
-- Smartphone Photogs Drive Demand for Professional-Grade Cameras: While
smartphones users have one of the most powerful mobile cameras at their
fingertips, Watson finds consumers want more. Watson identified
standalone cameras like the Nikon D-SLR are the number one choice for
amateurs looking to take their photography to the next level due to
their greater depth and superior quality. Amateurs aren't the only ones
looking to upgrade, expert photographers are setting their sights on
Sony's 42 megapixel Alpha 7RII mirrorless camera that allows them to
record Ultra HD 4k video
-- Whether it's Star Wars or Lego City, Buy Now Before It's Too Late: The
new Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens, has helped make Lego Bricks the
"it" toy of the 2015 holiday season and it's likely that many will sell
out including the new Millennium Falcon set. However, according to
Watson in addition to Star Wars, two other sets will also likely sell
out this season: Lego City and Friends. As a result, shoppers should
take advantage of early Black Friday deals and make their purchases now.
Beyond chatter about impending product shortages, Watson finds that
adults and children alike are excited for the new Star Wars line while
other products such as Lego City are selling well among both boys and
girls, which reinforces the growing trend of gender-neutral toys.
-- Traditional Toys Go Back-to-School: According to Watson, Mattel's
connected-toy, Hello Barbie is at the top of parents' gift-giving lists
but it's no longer due to her sense of style. The new Hello Barbie
delivers an "engaging and unique play experience" by letting children
have a two-way conversation with Barbie. Parents specifically call out
the companion app feature that allows for parental control of all
conversations. Other "Edutainment" toys leading the pack, according to
Watson, include the new PAW Patrol Imagicard Learning Game (for LeapFrog
tablets).
-- Tis' the Season for Wearable Tech: When it comes to must-have tech
gifts, wearable accessories top wishlists for both gamers and movie
lovers. According to Watson, while excitement around Minecraft continues
to be strong, the social conversations aren't focused on the game itself
but the new Gameband, which allows people to play anywhere, on any
device. For movie-lovers, Watson identified excitement around the Oculus
Rift (OR), a virtual reality wearable that not only enhances the gaming
experience but can support made-for-OR movies.
As consumers use the IBM Watson Trend app to pinpoint what products are popular and why, IBM also reports on how consumers will shop for these gifts. With the Thanksgiving holiday just one week away, IBM predicts that, for the first time, more consumers will turn to their mobile devices than their desktop to seek out the best buys. Over the five-day holiday period, mobile traffic is expected to increase by nearly 57 percent, up 17 percent over 2014. Mobile sales are predicted to increase by more than 36 percent, up 34 percent over last year.
The Watson Trend App uses a combination of API capabilities from IBM's open Watson Developer platform including Sentiment Analysis, Keyword Extraction, Concept Tagging and Taxonomy Classification. In the future, IBM Watson Trend will continue to evolve with the addition of new capabilities including geographic and language data, and an increased level of personalization that caters to each consumer's unique interests and preferences.
IBM continues to add and stretch the boundaries of what Watson can do. The original Watson system was based on 1 natural language QA API, today the platform has over 30 APIs powered by over 50 underlying technologies to provide capabilities that span language, speech, vision, and data insights.
By sharing these capabilities via the Watson Developer Cloud, an open developer environment, a vibrant community of entrepreneurs, startups and established businesses are commercializing their own cognitive powered products and services to transform a variety of industries and disciplines including retail and customer service.

Pioneers.io Partners with Nikkei to Launch Pioneers Asia: Bringing the Leading Startup and Future Tech Event to Tokyo, Next Year
TOKYO, November 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
The Vienna based company that has been supporting tech startups Pioneers.io, is
partnering with Asia's leading business media company, Japan-based Nikkei Inc. to bring
the Pioneers Festival experience to Asia, organizing Pioneers Asia 2016
[http://pioneers.io/asia ] in March.
Pioneers aims to continuously increase the success rate of start-ups by building
valuable business relationships for entrepreneurs, corporate executives and investors to
make their business thrive.
Consequently, the founders decided to go global with Pioneers to support startup and
tech ecosystems around the world. "Since we agreed on expanding internationally with
Pioneers Events, we took a closer look at non-European tech and startup ecosystems and
Japan was very appealing. There are a lot of great start-up projects which in a first step
we want to support to become successful global companies and there are established
companies that are looking for innovation. Our aim is to connect those two. We have gained
a lot of knowledge by supporting the European startup ecosystem. With Pioneers Asia 2016
we can now transfer our knowledge to the Asian market for the first time and help building
this community", explains Andreas Tschas, CEO of Pioneers.
Nikkei Inc. serves as the perfect partner for the first gloablisation step, being
Asia's leading business media company with over 3 million daily subscribers and issuer of
the prestigious Nikkei Asian Review. Â
Hence, Pioneers now aims to identify the pioneering startups of Asia for making them
globally successful through an intense mentoring program in the upcoming months, called
Pioneers Dojo.
Pioneers is also fostering the collaboration between start-ups and corporations,
creating synergies between the start-up and corporate worlds, working together with
companies like Cisco, PwC, Red Bull and one of Japan's leading corporations, Konica
Minolta.
Starting from today, late-stage start-ups can apply for the Pioneers Asia challenge to
gain access and showcase their products/services at the event. Together with renowned
experts, Pioneers and Nikkei will select the best 24 late-stage startup applicants from
Asia and Europe to get connected to local corporations, investors and media and to compete
for the grand prize.
Like in Europe, where the annual Pioneers Festival is known as `a hotspot where the
future starts` (WIRED, 2015), the event in Tokyo will offer a unique setting for a
strictly limited community of entrepreneurs, executives, investors, and international
media to experience how startups and tech from Asia will impact our world, and to build
relationships that support Asia's startup ecosystem.
"What is happening right now, many see Silicon Valley as the connecting point of the
start-up community. We would like to build direct links between Asia and Europe, starting
in March 2016", elaborates Mr Tschas-san.

Inspur and Altera Launch Speech Recognition FPGA Solution with OpenCL
AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The leading server vendor Inspur Group and the FPGA chipmaker Altera today launched a speech recognition acceleration solution based on Altera's Arria(®) 10 FPGAs and DNN algorithm from iFLYTEK, an intelligent speech technology provider in China, at SC15 conference in Austin, Texas. The launch results in Inspur becoming a HPC systems vendor with HPC heterogeneous computing application capabilities in GPU, MIC and FPGA.
The deep learning speech recognition acceleration solution leverages an Altera Arria 10 FPGA, iFLYTEK's deep neural network (DNN) recognition algorithms and Inspur's FPGA-based DNN parallel design, migration and optimization with OpenCL. The solution has a hardware platform in CPU+Arria 10 FPGA heterogeneous architecture and software in a high-level programming model in OpenCL to enable migration from CPU to FPGAs.
"Software algorithms for deep learning models need be fine-tuned and optimized continuously. Server accelerators with fixed functionalities will have increasingly low efficiency over time and waste space and electricity," said Yu Zhenhua, director of technology, iFLYTEK Co., Ltd. "In contrast, FPGAs are flexible, customizable and power-efficient. This is also an important reason that iFLYTEK decided to migrate DNN algorithms to a FPGA platform."
Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA), which have the characteristics of both an application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) and a general chip, have the ability to do data parallel and task parallel computing simultaneously, which allows them to be more efficient in dealing with specific applications. FPGAs are currently used in logic control, signal processing and image processing and recently in online recognition systems.
"Inspur's Arria 10 FPGA-based deep learning speech recognition solution further demonstrates the performance-per Watt advantages that FPGA accelerators provide," said David Gamba, general manager of the computer & storage business unit at Altera. "This success in solution development will become an important reference for FPGAs in the deep learning field."
Meanwhile, Inspur is also expanding its software cooperation on the speech recognition system, designing OpenCL programming frameworks combined with iFLYTEK's applications, to increase the efficiency of application programming. With these efforts, Inspur can enable the migration of more applications to FPGA-based platforms and foster an FPGA ecosystem, which includes FPGA software, hardware and an applied algorithms library.
When speaking about further cooperation, Hu Leijun, vice president of Inspur, said that Inspur is committed to providing clients with computing solutions that best suit their needs. Given FPGA-based solutions great advantages in terms of performance per watt, Inspur will expand its software cooperation with IFLYTEK and Altera on FPGA-based deep learning online speech recognition applications. Moreover, Inspur will develop an FPGA-based system solutions, covering full cabinet computing, Internet and storage solutions, with the aim of making these solutions available for applications and clients in other fields.
In the future, a CPU+FPGA solution will probably be the new heterogeneous computing model for HPC, more and more HPC applications, data center applications and Internet deep learning applications will use CPU+FPGA solution.
The solution revealed include:
-- High performance: When processing 100 bounds data, the DNN running time
based on two Intel's Xeon E5-2650 V2 CPU (16 cores) is 242.027s, while
the DNN running time based on Altera's Arria 10 FPGA is 84.312s, with a
faster performance acceleration of 2.871.
-- Low power consumption: The power consumption of Altera's Arria 10 FPGA
and two Intel Xeon E5-2650 V2 CPU are respectively 30W and 190W, with
the power consumption of FPGA-based system is 15.7 percent that of a CPU
system. In an actual test of the DNN algorithms, an FPGA-based system
can realize high performance per watt, up to 30GFlops/W, greatly saving
application power costs.
-- Easy to program: It only took four man-months for software engineers to
do FPGA-based DNN parallel program development with OpenCL programming
models. If traditional underlying languages, such as Verilog and VHDL,
were used, it would take 12 man-months at least to do similar
development, with collaboration between software engineers and hardware
engineers required.
-- High adaptability: FPGA can execute data-parallel computing with a
DNRange model or task-parallel computing with a Pipeline model to
address more applications and bring overall performance improvement to
more applications and software.

Geospatial Environment Online (GEO) will provide DJI drone users with up-to-date guidance on locations where flight may be restricted by regulation or raise safety concerns. For the first time, drone operators will have, at the time of flight, access to live information on temporary flight restrictions due to forest fires, major stadium events, VIP travel, and other changing circumstances. The GEO system will also include for the first time restrictions around locations such as prisons, power plants and other sensitive areas where drone operations raise non-aviation security concerns.
The drone will by default not fly into or take off in, locations that raise safety or security concerns. However, in order to accommodate the vast variety of authorized applications, the new system will also allow users who have verified DJI accounts to temporarily unlock or self-authorize flights in some of those locations. The unlock function will not be available for sensitive national-security locations such as Washington, D.C. or other prohibited areas.
Unlocking will require a DJI user account verified with a credit card, debit card or mobile phone number. DJI will neither collect nor store this information, and the service will be free. The verified account, required only if and when a user chooses to fly in a location that might raise an aviation safety or security concern, provides a measure of accountability in the event that the flight is later investigated by authorities.
"DJI invented geofencing over two years ago and now continues its industry leadership by balancing enhanced safety with the flexibility of accountable self-authorization," said Brendan Schulman, DJI's Vice President of Policy and Legal Affairs who led the development of the new system. "We believe this major upgrade to our geofencing system will do even more to help operators understand their local flight environment, and to make smart, educated decisions about when and where to fly their drones."
"Our years of actual user experience have shown that in most instances, strict geofencing is the wrong approach for this technology, and instead we are helping operators make informed, accountable decisions," Schulman added.
This new system will launch first in North America and Europe. Other regions will receive an update to airport data, but will continue to use the existing "No Fly Zone" geofencing system the company pioneered in 2013 until the new system is launched in each region.
GEO is powered by geospatial data from Santa Monica, California-based AirMap.
The new mapping system will become available in December via an update of the DJI Go app and drone firmware.

Shady Wars-- New Mobile Game From Eminem And Shady Records -- Is Out Now
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Nov. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Eminem and Shady Records have partnered with Music Powered Games to release the new mobile game Shady Wars, which is available now for iOS and Android at http://shady.sr/ShadyWars. The game delivers a combination of rhythm and arcade gameplay powered by Shady Records' music, including Eminem's "Phenomenal" and "Kings Never Die" from the soundtrack to the movie Southpaw, which was executive produced by the superstar artist.
"This is a new, fun, and potentially addictive way for fans to interact with and experience music from our label," says Shady Records CEO and co-founder Paul Rosenberg of Shady Wars. Releasing a freemium game rewards millions of Eminem fans with a cool new way to experience Shady music. The game also hosts a combination of in-game ads and in-app purchases. Eminem's legions of fans are already playing the game and sharing their reward stats on Twitter, which is driving downloads of Shady Wars and introducing Shady music to hosts of potential new fans.
Gamezbo.com calls Shady Wars, "an authentic pairing of famous personality branding with gameplay. Unlike many other celebrity games which simply reskin an existing engine to shoehorn in a celebrity, Shady Wars actually unites music, image, and character in a way that does seem to fit Eminem's brand." MTV News has called Shady Wars "frustratingly addicting" and "fun to play," which was precisely Shady Records and Music Powered Games' intention. As demonstrated by the craze over games like Flappy Bird and Crossy Road, challenging games become very addictive when they employ simple gameplay that also produces an ebb and flow of frustration and exhilaration.

New Toshiba ICs For Bluetooth® Smart Devices Facilitate Adoption Of Communication Functions In Wearables
New ICs feature built-in Flash ROM, NFC and low power consumption
SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC)*, a committed leader that collaborates with technology companies to create breakthrough designs, today launched two Bluetooth(®) Smart([1]) ICs with capabilities that support Bluetooth Low Energy (LE)([2] )v4.1 communications. The TC35676FTG/FSG and TC35675XBG both feature built-in Flash ROM, and the latter also integrates an NFC Type 3 tag (FeliCa((TM)) Lite-S compatible).
Deepak Mithani, senior director, Mixed-Signal Business Unit, System LSI Group at TAEC, stated, "As the market for wearables continues its rapid expansion, users are increasingly demanding low-power communication capabilities built into their devices, allowing them to easily exchange data with medical professionals, family members, trainers and others. Our newest chips expand the capabilities of Bluetooth Smart devices offering Bluetooth LE compatibility to facilitate manufacturers' ability to incorporate this technology into their offerings."
The TC35676FTG/FSG realizes low power consumption by adopting the same original low-power circuit design and integrating a highly efficient DC-DC converter as the existing product([3]). The new IC improves on its predecessor by integrating Flash ROM to store a user program and various data for standalone use cases. It also features an expanded 64KB user program area, enabled by its increased internal SRAM size that allows its internal ARM(®) processor to execute various kinds of application programs.
The TC35675XBG is the next-generation version of the TC35670FTG dual-capability IC, announced last December. The new IC further supports both Bluetooth LE communications and NFC Tag functions, adding ease of both Bluetooth pairing and power on/off functions via touching an NFC-supported smartphone. NFC Tag communication speed is 212Kbps/424Kbps with automatic switchover.
The new ICs are designed to realize better cost performance than previous products because the built-in 192KB Flash ROM can eliminate an external EEPROM and reduce external parts count and board size, and will facilitate adoption of Bluetooth LE communications for wearable healthcare devices, sensors and toys, as well as other high-grade small devices. The chips also feature the same degree of low power consumption as the current products (less than 6mA at peak consumption and less than 100nA in deep sleep, at 3.3V), greatly extending battery life for a range of devices, including those operating on small coin-cell batteries.
In addition to full support for Bluetooth v4.1, various Bluetooth LE central and peripheral devices and built-in GATT profile with server and client functions, the new ICs operate with a voltage range of 1.8V~3.6V, temperature range of -40 deg. C to 85 deg. C, and output power of 0dBm to -20dBm (4dB steps). The TC35675XBG is housed in a FBGA52 package (4.5mm x 4.5mm x 0.5mm pitch), and the TC35676FTG/FSG are supplied in QFN40 packages (6mm x 6mm x 0.5mm pitch or 5mm x 5mm x 0.4mm pitch).
Other features of the new ICs include UART, I(2)C, SPI and GPIO interfaces; general-purpose analog-to-digital converter (ADC); user programmability; and pulse-width modulation (PWM).
Availability
Sample shipments of the TC35675XBG and TC35676FTG/FSG Bluetooth Smart ICs are set to begin today.
1. Devices that adopt Bluetooth core specification Ver. 4.1 or higher with
low-energy core configuration, and that use GATT-based architecture

IBM Rallies Developers to Help Build New Cloud Apps for First Responders
-Partners with Vencore, U.S. Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) and the Association of Public Safety Communications (APCO)
-IBM Bluemix Cloud Platform Supporting First Responder Application Challenge
ARMONK, N.Y., Nov. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that it is providing access to the IBM Cloud as part of the First Responder Application Challenge that runs through Dec.14. IBM and its partner Vencore, Inc., in coordination with USGIF and APCO, have teamed up to develop an application ecosystem that enables the development and delivery of predictive analytic and mobile applications that can significantly improve the operational capability of first responders, be built and delivered on the cloud, and apply data and innovation to solve real-world problems.
This challenge continues IBM's focus on growing an ecosystem to drive further U.S. Federal and public sector cloud adoption. IBM also announced today the addition of five new federal partners to focus on advancing hybrid cloud. IDC's U.S. Government Private Cloud Infrastructure as a Service 2014 Vendor Assessment cited IBM Cloud as playing a "leading role for federal hybrid clouds," and indicated that Bluemix, IBM's Cloud Platform, coupled with the capability to "deliver innovation for new cloud workloads" is a "game changer" for the federal market. In addition, in its latest Federal Cloud Computing Competitive Landscape Snapshot, Deltek showed IBM leading the market for contracts won between 2011-2015.
Bluemix, which will be used by challenge participants, is proving to drive innovation in government. Last April, participants in NASA's Space App Challenge used Bluemix, resulting in thousands of new Bluemix users. IBM is currently working with Book Zurman, Inc., a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), on the Department of Veterans Affairs Care Coordination Challenge, developing proposed solutions that combine cognitive capabilities with Bluemix applications.
As part of a U.S. Federal Partner Acceleration Program, IBM has boosted the public sector ecosystem surrounding Bluemix. The team has hosted more than 70 events, including hackathons, challenges and workshops for the federal market and the federal system integrator community. With the growing entrepreneurial, developer and startup ecosystem supporting the federal government, academia and other business areas, the Washington Metropolitan area is ripe for this type of innovation.
"The best innovation takes place when you drive toward a common goal. And it's no different in government, where an ecosystem of developers, academia, technologists and others come together to address challenges," said Anne Altman, general manager of IBM U.S. Federal and Government Industries. "With Bluemix, we bring a cloud platform that can help all those involved in championing better solutions for our first responders through innovation to quickly build and implement new solutions."
The U.S. Department of Commerce's First Responder Network Authority's (FirstNet) vision for the Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network (NPSBN) includes providing an ecosystem where innovative applications are available to first responders that help improve how they carry out their duties and ultimately save lives and property.
During the challenge, participants will work directly with vendors and universities to build software applications that use a variety of real-time remote sensing data, field data, GIS tools and other content to create mobile and web-based apps. Solutions will be created using an operational application ecosystem which will allow first responders and solution providers to work together in a virtual environment designed specifically for delivery of effective, tailored first responder applications.
Vencore has developed an application ecosystem using its Intelligent Data Exploitation and Analytics System (IDEAS). Using the latest technology available from IBM, IDEAS delivers predictive analytic solutions, mobile applications, development services and collaboration services to enable first responders to define needs and work directly with providers to build and deploy tailored solutions that meet those needs.
"Our IDEAS platform brings together first responders with both content provider and app developers in a collaborative and secure environment with the objective of delivering value-added applications that directly address unmet needs in the public safety community," said Kent Matlick, senior vice president and general manager of Vencore's Mission Integration Group. "Vencore's solution makes these apps easily accessible to the entire public safety community."
To win the challenge, participants must build the best solution that addresses one or more of five unmet needs, e.g., Improving 9-1-1 services, Emergency Tracking, First Responder Assistant Apps, Easier Access to Information, Preparation and Fire Prevention, have a fully functioning app installed and running on Bluemix or IDEAS, and submit a written description of how the app functions. Details on the challenge, including criteria, rules, prizes and other information can be found here. Registration is open until Dec. 11.
IBM launched Bluemix with a $1 billion investment in 2014, growing rapidly to become the largest Cloud Foundry deployment in the world. The open-standards-based Bluemix catalog includes more than 120 tools and services spanning categories of big data, mobile, Watson, analytics, integration, DevOps, security and Internet of Things. IBM Bluemix was recently shown to be the "developers' choice" of PaaS, and is growing 10-times faster than the overall PaaS market, according to research firm ESG.
