The revamped HKTDC Design Gallery Wan Chai shop showcases nearly 5,500 innovative products from more than 230 Hong Kong designers and brands in eight distinctively designed zones; Hong Kong designer brands in DG Discover, handbags and accessories in DG Vogue, environmentally friendly products in DG Green, baby and children's products in DG Mini, home goods and gifts in DG Delights, electronic and digital goods in DG Smart, high-end luxury products such as jewellery, watches and leather and cashmere goods in DG Luxe, and collaborative creations by Hong Kong designers and international brands that combine the best of East and West in DG Plus.

New International Study by LG Electronics and smartclip on Changes in Media Consumption Resulting From Smart TV Sets

Intensive use of on-demand video platforms is fuelling the boom in the Smart TV
market:
- 78% of all Smart TVs (integrated Internet-enabled TV sets) in the UK have been
purchased within the past two years - showing a significant rise in growth and shift
in TV technology standards
- The connection rate of Smart TVs has increased to 93% (compared to 78% in 2013)
- Smart TV set owners generally have higher net household incomes and higher education
levels than the average TV viewer
- Video-on-demand offerings such as Netflix and Amazon Instant Video are the main
drivers of Smart TV use
A current international study on the spread of Smart TV devices and the associated
changes in use proves: the intensive use of on-demand video platforms is fuelling the boom
in the Smart TV market. The joint study was commissioned by LG Electronics, CE
manufacturer and smartclip, a specialist in addressable TV advertising technology and
owner of the programmatic multi-screen video SSP "SmartX Platform", and carried out by
Nielsen, a global market researcher. The study examined changes in media consumption in
four markets - Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain and Brazil - caused by Smart TVs that
give access to large variety of on-demand content and support the latest connectivity
features.
The facts and figures surveyed for the UK, in particular, show rapid growth in the
spread and usage of Internet-enabled TV sets. The second study also identifies a
socio-demographic profile of Smart TV owners, which indicates they have high net household
incomes and good educational levels. This is identical to the results of the first global
Smart TV study from 2013, also carried out by LG, smartclip and Nielsen. It is noteworthy
that Smart TVs are used mainly in modern families, whose members have a general affinity
for online content. The term "multi-screener" has been coined for this kind of media usage,
so it is no surprise that the connection rate of Smart TVs has also increased
significantly since 2013, from 78% to 93%.
These results also show that the use of Smart TV features has become increasingly
pronounced in recent years. In particular, an increasing number of online video libraries
has fuelled desire for on-demand use and thus for Smart TV sets. Films and videos are used
most intensively by far: Â 82% of the respondents use their Smart TVs to watch on-demand
content, compared to 37% percent in 2013. Video-on-demand providers such as Netflix,
Amazon Instant Video have driven the spread of Smart TV sets in households in the last two
years, and it is expected to see this growth to continue the more entertainment content
becomes increasingly accessible via smart devices.
Kourosh Ayrom, National Account Director at smartclip, highlights one finding in
particular: "This latest study has shown that, when compared to users with
traditional/non-Smart TV sets, Smart TV users consume more of both traditional scheduled
TV programming, as well as video-on-demand content. We have to consider that users

Robot Band Compressorhead Seek to Finance a Singer Robot to Complete Their Band and Record an Album Via Crowdfunding

The robot band Compressorhead is running a crowdfunding campaign on kickstarter.com
[http://kickstarter.com ] to finance the construction of a singer robot and the world's
first robot band recorded rock album.Â
The aim is to enable the first rock album produced by robots as well as the
construction of a singer robot. Their intentions have already attracted so much attention
that they've won over Canadian punk legend John Wright (NoMeansNo) as songwriter and
composer. He will also provide the robot with its voice at first. In total the band needs
around EUR290,000.
It was never an option for the band to depend on a record label for the financing. The
full-time musicians did not want to limit their creativity. Frank Barnes said, "If a label
were to take control, we would be limited in our artistic creativity. We have got so far
on our own, we want to take the next step on our own as well. Just us, our ideas and the
fans." But it would take years, the band say, to finance a singer robot through the small
and irregular gigs. "Without the help of supporters we won't be able to do it," said
Barnes.
Those involved estimate they should release the album in the summer of 2016. They are
planning for it to have 14 songs, which will use the special technical abilities of the
four-armed drummer and the 78-fingered guitarist. If the campaign succeeds they plan to

Mentor Graphics Announces New FloTHERM Product with Automated Calibration for Package Model Accuracy
WILSONVILLE, Ore., Nov. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Mentor Graphics Corporation (NASDAQ: MENT) today announced the newest version of its market-leading FloTHERM® product, the industry's most powerful and accurate computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software solution. The FloTHERM product was developed to quickly identify potential thermal issues early in the design process to avoid expensive late stage re-design and warranty costs arising from thermal failures in the field. The newest version of the FloTHERM product delivers an automated method to calibrate simulation models to match transient thermal measurements recorded with the Mentor Graphics® T3Ster® hardware. As a result, the FloTHERM product can help maximize simulation data accuracy and provide additional insight into product reliability - a necessity for the automotive, aerospace and electronics products industries.
Mentor Graphics T3Ster product is an advanced thermal tester for thermal characterization of IC packages, LEDs and systems which produces extensive thermal characteristics rapidly. The industry-leading T3Ster test system delivers highly accurate, real-time measurements of heating and cooling transients based on its advanced implementation of the JEDEC static test method (JESD51-1) and can now be considered to be 10X better than alternative solutions.
The new FloTHERM product can convert a simulated transient thermal response into a structure function curve using the same mathematical process utilized by the T3Ster product. These structure function curves are known to correlate with the physical structure of the device, and are thus the ideal platform to compare simulation with test data. Differences between the structure functions indicate that some aspect of the simulation model is incorrect; typically dimensions or physical properties that are difficult to measure directly such as thermal interface material (TIM) thicknesses or interfacial thermal contact resistances. The new FloTHERM version uses optimization methods to change the model inputs and drive the simulation structure function towards the experimental structure function until a match is achieved. This match indicates that the FloTHERM model is fully calibrated and will respond correctly and accurately in any transient application. Package manufacturers can now certify supply chain models, by providing evidence about the thermal performance of the component in customer applications along with the model itself.
"Working with a fully-calibrated model of a package is often critically important in steady state and transient analyses when accurate prediction of the junction temperature is the objective," said Ir. Clemens Lasance, principal scientist at Philips Research (retired) and consultant at SomelikeitCool. "The calibration is usually performed by creating a structure function to be compared with the one measured with a T3Ster in the lab. The latest version of FloTHERM embeds an automated ability to fine-tune a FloTHERM model to achieve this match, making this best practice modeling methodology far more accessible to thermal engineers."

BEIJING, Nov. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The world's largest network of iBeacon devices has emerged in China, consisting of 110,000 units run and managed by Sensoro. The network spans 25 movie theatres, sixteen airports, 39 high-end retail stores, 40 major tourist destinations, 200 universities, 260 high speed trains, 1,500 Pizza Hut restaurants, and 2,100 Chow Tai Fook (CTF) jewelry retail stores among other locations.
During Chinese holidays, traffic at these beacon outfitted locations reached hundreds of millions. An estimated 12 million visitors visited the 40 Class 5A tourist attractions (the highest level of tourist attraction rating category rated by by the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA), while more than 300 million passengers rode on the 260 CRH trains to their holiday destinations. Chow Tai Fook, the largest jewelry stores by market share in Mainland China with annual sales of over 11 billion dollars, owns more than 2,100 stores. Key co-operations in digital marketing have significantly expanded public exposure to beacon devices around the world, building momentum for further innovations in the applications for iBeacon and the results seems to be unexpectedly positive.
During the 2015 Chinese New Year, Chow Tai Fook's use of iBeacon brought in 11 million dollars in revenue with a conversion rate up to 63%, far surpassing expectations (Source: CTF 2015 annual earnings). The success of the case persuaded CTF to deploy beacons in all 2,100 of their Mainland China retail stores over the next three months, and provided an excellent model of digital marketing for other companies including Real Madrid, Sony Pictures Television, and Yum Brands to adopt.
In May 2015, in cooperation with China's largest traditional television media outlet, CCTV News Channel, and the China National Tourism Administration, Sensoro deployed more than 4,200 beacons at 40 5A-class scenic attractions. The use of iBeacon technology created the first instance of cooperation between traditional television media and offline tourist destinations. Due to CCTV's high-density live broadcasting, reaching over 12 million tourists and uploading more than 60,000 high-value real-time news clues. With the growing number beacon ecosystems, Sensoro began working on ways to further develop a network to link all 110,000 deployed sensors. 1. Technological Innovation. SENSORO is the first to propose the concept of
the enterprise marketing with its iBeacon hardware. Technically, SENSORO

generation of SENSORO products are said to be a collection of GPRS, GPS,
Zigbee, WIFI, BLE, ultrasound and many other sensing technologies. The

problem of mesh networking between Beacons straightforwardly.
2. Cost control. Currently, SENSORO is said to be the best hardware
manufacturer who does well on cost control. SENSORO has controlled the
hardware cost under 10 dollars. Its 20 dollars products could defeat the
30 dollars European and American products like Estimote beacons in its
design, performance and the integration of multi sensors.
3. Market selection. SENSORO has given up developers' market but select
enterprise-class business market. In general, the enterprise-class market
has characteristics like long period cycle and high service requirement
and so on. Those characteristics led enterprise market to be the most
inaccessible areas for start-up companies. There is no doubt that SENSORO
has made a great breakthrough in this area.
4. iBeacon network operation. SENSORO entered the market as a hardware
manufacturer whose team is mainly composed by data engineers from Google,
Facebook, Microsoft Research. The hardware assembling work was done by
Foxconn. After selling a large quantity of beacons, SENSORO turned to
construct a beacon environment based on customers and assist in the
cooperation between customers, so as to run from one-spot deployment to a
network management. Thereby SENSORO complete its transformation and
become the provider of the entire network.
With the recent advent of iBeacon and Eddystone technology in large-scale enterprise cases, industries such as retail are just beginning to enjoy the implications of beacon deployment.
