8 Survivors Remain in Competition to Win an Island from Samsung

"SOS Island" Online Series Breaks New Ground in Social Media and Live Programming

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Eight global contestants are one step closer to winning their own island in Samsung's online, competition series, "SOS Island: Survival of the Smartest" -- the ultimate mix of live programming, online video streaming and social media.

The original 16 contestants were narrowed by half after this weeks' training with survival expert Les Stroud. Now the final eight will progress to the next stage - surviving for two weeks on an actual, uninhabited island.

SOS Island producer Craig Borders said the series breaks new ground in the realm of entertainment and marketing. "What makes SOS Island unique is that the contestants are telling their own stories utilizing social media tools such as YouTube, Vine and Instagram. We are using the latest technology to create content fans not only want to watch but can also interact and engage with."

Landing on SOS Island

For the past week, fans have been able to follow the 16 contestants from all over the world as they traveled to Puerto Rico. Today, these stories take on a new twist as the eight remaining contestants are relocated to "SOS Island" where they'll draw on their survival training, social media skills and abilities to learn new technology to outsmart their opponents in a series of challenges.

With the help of Samsung's GALAXY S4 zoom and GALAXY NX, contestants will compete in challenges that will require them to build shelters, locate basic necessities and navigate the island. Viewers back home have the opportunity to follow their journey online and vote for their favorite castaways.

Episodes Stream through November
Seven live episodes will be streamed from the remote island on Oct. 7-19 where viewers will be able to interact with the contestants live and in the moment on social media. The episodes will feature communal life and the personalities of the eight contestants.

Twelve taped, challenge episodes will be streamed beginning Oct. 22 after the contestants return to their homes. The competition continues as they will have to use their social media savvy to encourage fans to continue to vote through Nov. 30.

One winner will be announced on Dec. 9 after the scores are tallied to take home the coveted private island prize package, valued at $100,000 USD.

The Final 8 Contestants
The finalists include Rosy McMichael, Chris Thompson, Brittany Joyal and Karen Constant from the United States; Jo Crawshaw of South Africa; Graham Hughes of the U.K.; Liron Maimon of Israel; and Mert Erdir of Turkey.

"Each of these contestants have demonstrated the ability to adapt to new environments and pick up new skills," Les Stroud said. "Armed with the knowledge and training that I've provided them, I know they have what they need to complete the challenges and survive the island."

Among accessory searches, cases come out on top

NEW YORK, Oct. 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The energy and excitement of the Apple launch events never fail to create a buzz amongst consumers, technologists and marketers alike and the most recent launch on September 10(th) was no exception. Experian Marketing Services, a global provider of integrated consumer insights, targeting, data quality and cross-channel marketing, analyzed the consumer search behavior post launch to see how consumers have reacted. Looking at online consumer behavior using Hitwise data, interest and speculation over the latest Apple product release started slowly in March as rumors of the next iPhone and iOS started. There was a further lift in search activity in June around the time of the iOS7 beta release as Apple developers and enthusiasts scrambled to gain access to the test platform. By August, search activity was really gaining momentum with the largest peak (an increase of 212% from the previous week) during the week ending September 14, 2013, coinciding with the launch event on September 10(th).

Despite the long anticipation and demand for a cheaper iPhone, the $99 iPhone 5c failed to generate the level of search activity seen for the iPhone 5s. During the week ending September 14(th), searches[1] for iPhone 5s were 4 times more prevalent than searches for iPhone 5c.

Searches for the currently theoretical iPhone 6 were also popular. In some cases people were looking to understand whether this release was for the iPhone 6 whereas others were looking for advice on whether to buy the 5c or 5s or hold out for the '6'. Searches for 'iPhone fingerprint', which is arguably the most innovative difference between the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s, were the most common feature-related search.

Surprising was the speed with which the gold iPhone 5s sold out because searches for 'gold' iPhones only accounted for less than 1 percent of searches. It is also interesting to note that searches comparing various iPhone models were twice as frequent as comparisons between iPhones and Androids, which speaks to the continued loyalty of Apple fans.

The top recipient of traffic from the iPhone release search terms was Apple.com and most of the traffic was the result of clicks on paid links. The Apple iPhone product page and Apple Store were other obvious recipients of the search traffic. Many of the other sites to receive this traffic were content heavy sites such as YouTube, Yahoo and CBSNews as people scoured the Internet for news, images and video of the new phones and the launch event.

iPhone users saved their searches for iPhone accessories until the week after the launch. This is likely the result of a push by accessories manufacturers maximizing on the increased iPhone interest and relishing the fact that the specs of the new phone still align with their current inventory of cases. For those wanting to catch additional search traffic from Apple fans searching for cases, try incorporating 'covers' in to your keywords since many people search using this naming alternative.  It seems that battery extending cases are gaining in demand as users become more "fidgetal" and reliant on their phones and the instance of "nomophobia" (fear of being out of mobile phone contact) becomes more common.

two new options for its GibbsCAM [http://www.gibbscam.com ](R) software specifically
developed to simplify the 5-axis programming required to make turbomachinery parts. The
new options have user interfaces that are optimized for fast selection of geometry and
toolpath parameters to program machining of impellers, blisks (bladed disks) and blings
(bladed rings). These bladed parts, which are used in compressing gas and liquids, or
transporting them under pressurized flow, are common components in the aerospace,
automotive and power generation industries.

    Each of the two new software options targets different levels of specialization and
part complexity in bladed-part manufacturing. While 5-Axis MultiBlade Level 1 is designed
for parts of simpler to moderate complexity, 5-Axis MultiBlade Level 2 increases the
selectable toolpath options to accommodate the most complex bladed parts, which may have
multiple smaller blades (known as splitters and sub-splitters) between the main blades.
The GibbsCAM 5-Axis MultiBlade options operate within the GibbsCAM 5-Axis software,
accommodate both 5-axis machining centers and multi-task machines, and are available
immediately.

    Features of GibbsCAM 5-Axis MultiBlade Level 1

    When added to GibbsCAM 5-Axis, MultiBlade Level 1 simplifies programming and machining
of blisks, blings and impellers having single splitters or no splitters. Toolpath
strategies include 5-axis simultaneous roughing, hub finishing, and blade and splitter
finishing, with automatic gouge checking on all toolpaths. The interface includes options
for leading- and trailing-edge extension and control, plus intelligent controls for
rotating toolpaths around the part.

    Eutelsat Communications (NYSE Euronext Paris: ETL) today announced a new milestone in
the drive to reduce the Digital Divide, with 4,000 satellite broadband installers now
trained and certified to bring Eutelsat's Tooway broadband service to residents poorly
served or beyond range of terrestrial broadband.

    The largest free training programme of its kind has so far certified 4,000 installers
in 20 European countries and in eight languages - harmonising best practice for satellite
broadband installations across the continent. The programme is continuing, with an
additional 1,000 installers to be trained by end 2014, focusing on building numbers in the
Balkans, Germany, Nordic countries, Poland and Spain. The announcement was made by
Eutelsat at the All Digital ExpoForum, running until 6 October in Vicenza, Italy.

    By building an extensive network of expert digital installers, Eutelsat is helping to
make universal access to high speed broadband a reality across Europe and at the same time
creating jobs and broadening the skills and work opportunities of satellite TV installers.

    The Tooway(TM) Installer Training Programme provides practical face-to-face training,
an interactive app for site surveys, installations and dish alignment, along with access
to a portal reserved for certified installers that provides practical information, tools
and services for a high quality install.

    Eutelsat's Tooway(TM) service is principally aimed at consumers and businesses unable
to receive broadband or can only access speeds of up to 2 Mbps. The latest Tooway(TM)
services offer download speeds of up to 20 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 6 Mbps, making
it the fastest satellite broadband service in Europe. The service operates with a small
(77cm) satellite dish and modem and is delivered by KA-SAT, Europe's most powerful
satellite.

    The programme has been recognised by the Global VSAT Forum (GVF), which brings

announced that it is first to release support for a commercial LTE-A and carrier
aggregation ("CA") testing solution for mobile network operators and network
infrastructure vendors. Using the industry-leading test platform Nemo Outdoor, operators
can monitor the performance and quality of their LTE-A networks.

    LTE-A is the next stage in mobile telecommunications, which will allow operators to
offer wireless services equivalent to 'fibre to your phone'. CA is a method used in LTE-A
which allows mobile operators to increase the bandwidth and, consequently, the bitrates.
This is accomplished by combining spectrum resources. Each aggregated carrier is referred
to as a component carrier, and each component carrier corresponds to a serving cell.

    LTE-A CA measurements with Nemo Outdoor provide detailed information about the primary
and secondary component carriers, including physical cell ID, signal levels and quality.
Also link adaptation and radio resource allocation can be monitored among many other
detailed LTE parameters. The new carrier aggregation testing feature complements the

    British small and medium sized businesses are being urged to get ready for a
multi-billion-Euro fund, details of which are set to be announced later this year.

    The fund, which is part of the European Union's Horizon 2020 package of support
services for research and innovation, has been set aside for SMEs looking to undertake new
product development programmes.

    Approximately 4.8 million businesses across the UK will be applicable for the fund.
However, according to new product development contractor Pera Technology, which is behind
the call for action, there is over 1 million SME manufacturers who are likely to be the
most successful at securing funding.

    Speaking about the significance of Horizon 2020 Paul Tranter, Chief Executive at Pera

and across Europe the SME manufacturing sector is key. It is particularly important for an

Belle's War is part of the first franchise to roll out under Twistory's model of graphic stories, film and video games, tied together and driven by a confluence of great stories and art.  Players can decide whether to play against the computer or another person in a quick-fire round where weapons and wits determine the winner.  Twistory added exciting elements to the game, such as the ability to shoot your opponent's cards off the table if you don't like them, or to put a knife in your own card if want to keep it.  It's all wrapped around the world of Belle and her story; with more cool and innovative games to come from the realm of 13 Chambers and its other 12 territory casinos.  Belle: The Film is currently in development at Twistory Studios.

The Belle's War app, currently available on iTunes in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and requires iOS 4.3 or later. The game is platform agnostic, meaning it can be played on any device with a browser.  So Belle's War will soon also be available on Google Play and Play Station Network as well. 

The Game You Can't Keep Playing

One thing makes Belle's War different from all other video games.  You can play the game up to a certain point; then it stops for a while and you have to put it down and do something else.  "It's all about quality of life," says Twistory Founder Christopher "mink" Morrison.  "We believe that more is not better; that playing a video game incessantly dilutes the experience.  That's why we've made it the game you can't keep playing non-stop." 

Morrison explains, "After the completion of 13 Games or depletion of your 13 Badges, the player is asked to leave the game.  You can return in a half hour and play one more game for one more Badge. Each half hour you are gone, the game gives the player another Badge, up to 13."

Twistory Studios will be showcasing Belle's War at New York Comic Con, October 10-13 at the Javits Center in Manhattan.  Visitors will be able to play the game on two gigantic iPads called PADZILLAS, as well as see Twistory artists create their magic on the ten-foot tall touch screens.
