Medbox Comments on Barron's Cover Story Supporting Legalizing Marijuana
"Legalizing marijuana will hurt drug lords, help cash-strapped states, and ease burdens on police and prisons"
HOLLYWOOD, Calif., June 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Medbox, Inc. (OTC Markets: MDBX) (http://www.medboxinc.com), a leader in providing consulting services and patented systems to the medical and retail industries, commented today on Barron's Magazine June 1 cover story, titled "Should Pot be Legal?"
According to Barron's, America's long crawl toward legalization of marijuana is picking up speed. "Americans should be allowed to smoke cannabis as a matter of basic personal freedom," the article stated. "A society that enjoys legal whiskey, beer, wine, and tobacco has no business outlawing a recreational drug like pot that has fewer unhealthy side effects."
However, it's not just about personal freedom, Barron's contends. "With the nation's retail marijuana market estimated at about $30 billion, legalization also would bring some important economic benefits. It could lead to sharply lower prices, striking a blow to the Mexican drug cartels and American street gangs."
The tax revenues received from marijuana could be significant. Some estimates suggest that states will receive $3 billion from marijuana taxes, and other estimates are even higher. California alone could pull in $1.4 billion a year.
Furthermore, loosening the marijuana laws would have a positive impact on law enforcement. Norm Stamper, former chief of the Seattle Police Department, thinks legalizing marijuana will help lower crime. "It will give the police an opportunity to focus much more time, energy, and imagination on going after predatory criminals," he says. Legalization, he adds, also has "opened the door to a much more positive relationship between young people and police."
Dr. Bruce Bedrick, CEO of Medbox, Inc., stated that while Medbox does not have a position on whether cannabis should be legalized, he agrees with key points cited in Barron's article and is gratified to see a mainstream and conservative publication taking such a stand. "The benefits far outweigh the potential risks," he said. "States will receive billions in new revenues; police will be able to focus on dangerous criminals; gangs and drug-lords will lose a major source of their cash; and the over-crowded prison system will see some relief so states can cut back on their early release programs that places potentially dangerous people back into our communities."
Democrats and Republicans alike are now recognizing the benefits of legalizing marijuana. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, a California Republican, last month introduced a bill to require the federal government to respect state laws on marijuana. "The Herculean effort undertaken by the federal government to prevent the American people from smoking marijuana has undeniably been a colossal failure," he says.
"We stand with the leaders from all sectors of state, local and federal government that want safe, sensible, and serious marijuana reform," Bedrick stated. "Our systems, which are now in use in every state that has legalized marijuana programs, provide the highest levels of security, transparency, and compliance," he added. "We encourage creating legislation that regulates, taxes, and holds accountable all sellers of marijuana, and through our consulting services and patented hardware and software systems, we are able to provide the tools necessary to implement cohesive controls on distribution, revenue collection, and regulatory oversight."
Medbox is a leader in the development, sales and service of automated, biometrically controlled dispensing and storage systems for medicine and merchandise. Medbox has offices throughout the world, including New York, Arizona, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Tokyo, London and Toronto, and has their corporate headquarters in Los Angeles.

LaserLock Technologies Announces Identity Authentication Solution for Internet Gaming
Solution creates high standards of ethical Internet gaming through instant verification of identity, age and location
WASHINGTON, June 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- LaserLock Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB:LLTI), a global leader in providing state-of-the-art authentication solutions to governments, health care providers, high-end retailers and the gaming industry announced today it has developed a solution that authenticates players of Internet gaming platforms.
Since Internet gaming became legal in Nevada, New Jersey and Delaware this February with other states expected to follow, companies are now faced with the challenge of establishing virtual identity verification processes to enforce underage restrictions and other ethical gaming issues. LaserLock's advanced authentication features, such as geo-location tracking and biometric facial recognition via webcam, ensures strict adherence to the laws dictating the allowed age and location of eligible players.
"Verifying a player's identity is a simple process in a casino, but has become a major hindrance for legislators looking to legalize Internet gambling," said Neil Alpert, President of LaserLock Technologies. "In an online environment, the risks for fraud increase dramatically as there are few ways to truly verify identity, age or location. LaserLock's patented technology brings Internet gaming companies a solution that lowers that risk substantially by verifying a player's identity each time they play and by providing an ethical component that protects the user."
Critical to mitigating the risk online gaming brings is the ability for companies to simply and correctly authenticate a player's identity, age and location. LaserLock has developed a solution using its VerifyMe(TM) platform that verifies all necessary identifying information. Once a player registers in the system for the first time, their identity, age, and location can be verified in a matter of seconds each time they play.
"This platform is one of several potential game changers for LaserLock," said Michael Sonnenreich, Chairman of the Board. "The future will see more states legalize online gaming and LaserLock's solution is all encompassing and ensures the security and safety of internet gaming that lawmakers, casinos and the public all demand."
LaserLock's solution goes beyond low regulatory thresholds to protect both gaming companies and players. It includes ethical gaming features that allow players and casinos to monitor for and prevent excessive gambling, which cannot be as easily prevented in the privacy of a player's home as it can be on a casino floor.
The successfully tested prototype solution is currently being tested by Internet casinos worldwide and continues LaserLock's decade of leadership in gaming security.

This complete portfolio of HFC products will be on display for the first time at ANGA COM 2013. European service providers will get a preview of these transformative solutions, which are geared towards delivering additional HD channels, VOD support, and faster broadband in the near term, while opening to door to future services like Ultra-HD.
"Research shows that subscribers' multiscreen habits are growing rapidly, and our service provider customers want to keep ahead of that demand," said Steve McCaffery, EMEA General Manager, ARRIS. "However, multiscreen and TV everywhere put considerable strain on the broadband network, so our customers are looking to ARRIS' leadership in HFC to enable their shift to IP-based networks."
Key Benefits of Expanded ARRISPortfolio for European Operators
-- Flexible Design
-- Increased Network Performance/Expanded Capacity
-- Cost Efficiencies
-- Fast Upgrades
-- Minimized Installation Times
-- Appropriate for Fiber Deep Applications
-- Electronic remote control
-- Field replaceable power supply
ARRIS UCN224, UCN212 UCA222 and UCA212 Full-Featured Compact Nodes and RF Amplifiers
The ARRIS portfolio of full-featured compact nodes and RF amplifiers has been designed with simplicity, economy, and performance in mind. Engineered for European requirements with three outputs (two active), they are flexible enough to suit a number of different architectures and scenarios -- legacy and modern -- and offer excellent performance in every setting.
The nodes and amps have been streamlined -- removing many of the plug-ins required in historical situations so that, with fewer components to manage, mistakes are less likely and installation time is reduced. UCN224 and UCN212 also feature enhanced Gallium Arsenide performance that provides high RF output levels, making them equally well suited to deploy as a fiber-deep nodes.
Investment Protection
ARRIS is showcasing its leadership in complex HFC network design through multi-wavelength capabilities, pluggable modules, and scalability to 1.2GHz networks -- allowing cable service providers to economically scale to future applications.
Cost-Effective Installation
One of the key features within the new node and amp portfolio is the innovative Electronics Package (E-Pack), which enables an ARRIS amplifier to be easily upgraded to a node within the existing housing. European providers can now repurpose existing amplifier housings, such as fiber nodes, by efficiently installing the new system using only the E-Pack and Lid swap, avoiding the costly downtime of removing out the entire housing to make the upgrade. As a result, they can quickly upgrade their network -- reducing installation times and avoiding costly downtime associated with removing the entire unit.
Performance and Reliability
For many service providers, it has been more than 10 years since the last major network upgrade, and ageing equipment does not have the reliability and performance required to meet today's customer expectations. As operators launch new multiscreen services to the home it is vital that the network has the necessary capacity and reliability. The ARRIS HFC portfolio, together with its industry-leading professional services, delivers the products and expertise to cost-effectively plan and deploy the HFC network of tomorrow.
The new ARRIS optical nodes and RF amplifiers became part of the ARRIS portfolio through the company's acquisition of Motorola Home. ARRIS combines world-class solutions for the entire video delivery chain by integrating innovative technologies across the cloud, network and home.
ARRIS will be demonstrating its new HFC portfolio at ANGA COM 4 - 6 Jun in Cologne (Booths #K11 and #E21).

Made in IBM Labs: IBM Scientists Unveil Highly Integrated Millimeter-Wave Transceiver for Mobile Communications and Radar Imaging applications
Researchers invent solution that seamlessly brings together 4 integrated chips and 64 antennas in a single package for mobile and transportation solutions
Proven SiGe BiCMOS prototype takes advantage of under-utilized short-wavelength frequency
SEATTLE, June 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Scientists from IBM (NYSE: IBM) have achieved a milestone in creating a phased-array transceiver that contains all of the millimeter-wave components necessary for both high data-rate communications and advanced-resolution radar imaging applications. The newly demonstrated integrated circuits (ICs) tackle data bottleneck issues for mobile communications applications and allow radar-imaging technology to be scaled down to the size of a computer laptop.
Advanced radio frequency integration has been a key driver in the explosive growth of mobile device capability and sophistication. Millimeter-wave bandwidth has the ability to support Gb/s wireless communications, dramatically expanding opportunities for mobile backhaul, small cell infrastructure, and data center overlay network deployment.
The frequency range of the ICs is well suited for high-resolution radar imaging applications due to its short wavelength, relatively low atmospheric attenuation, and ability to penetrate debris. The ICs enable radar technology to be scaled down, giving pilots the ability to penetrate fog, dust and other vision impairing obstructions.
"This transceiver presents the highest level of integration achieved so far in a silicon-based solution for millimeter-wave frequency applications," said Dr. Alberto Valdes-Garcia, IBM Research, Communications and Computation Subsystem Group. "It is a key step toward phased-array systems of the future that are scalable, low-volume, light-weight, and low-cost."
About the Integrated Circuit and Scalable Array Assembly Technology
The packaged transceiver operates at frequencies in the range of 90-94GHz and is implemented as a unit tile, integrating four phased array ICs and 64 dual-polarized antennas. By tiling packages next to one another on a circuit board, scalable phased arrays of large aperture can be created while maintaining uniform antenna element spacing. The beamforming capabilities enabled by hundreds of antenna elements will allow for communications and radar imaging applications that will extend over a range of kilometers.
Each of the four phased-array ICs in a tile integrates 32 receive and 16 transmit elements with dual outputs to support 16 dual polarized antennas. Multiple operating modes are supported, including the simultaneous reception of horizontal and vertical polarizations. Fabricated using an advanced IBM SiGe semiconductor process, the ICs also integrate frequency synthesis and conversion as well as digital control functions.
The complete scalable solution, which includes antennas, packaging, and transceiver ICs, transforms signals between millimeter-wave and baseband, all in a form factor smaller than an American nickel.
Mobile Back-Haul Technology
Mobile service providers have started to alleviate backhaul congestion issues by using E-band wireless links. E-Band spectrum, allocated by the FCC for point-to-point communications, covers frequencies in the range of 71-76 GHz, 81-86 GHz and 92-95 GHz, and enables wireless data transfer at very high rates. The atmospheric attenuation in this band is relatively low, making it well suited for supporting long-range communications links.
Today's E-band solutions consist of multi-chip modules and bulky mechanically aligned antennas. The newly developed compact scalable phased array solution provides electronic beam steering and the bandwidth to support Gb/s wireless communications.
Millimeter-wave Radar and Imaging Capabilities
Millimeter-wave spans 30 GHz to 300 GHz on the electromagnetic spectrum, 10 to 100 times higher than the frequencies used for mobile phones and Wi-Fi. Frequencies in the range of 90-94GHz are well suited for short and long range, high-resolution radar imaging.
Weather, debris and other vision impairing obstructions often leave aircraft pilots helpless, but 94GHz radar imaging technology could alleviate this problem. Moreover, the design's support for two antenna polarizations--with minimal increase in footprint--provides a further advantage while navigating through fog and rain.
IBM will debut the phased-array transceiver design at the IEEE Radio Frequency Integrated Circuit Symposium in Seattle, WA, on Tuesday, June 4(th), 2013. The work was partially funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Strategic Technology Office (STO).

ABB Demonstrates Technology to Power Flash Charging Electric Bus in 15 Seconds
No overhead lines and ultrafast charging times at selected bus stops enables new opportunities for next generation silent, flexible, zero-emissions urban mass transportation.
SINGAPORE, June 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- ABB (http://www.abb.com/), the leading power and automation technology group has developed a new technology that will help power the world's first high-capacity flash charging electric bus system.
ABB announced at the 60th congress of the International Association of Public Transport (UTIP) in Geneva that it is working together with the city's public transport company (TGP), the Office for the Promotion of Industries and Technologies (OPI) and the Geneva power utility SIG on the TOSA ( http://www.tosa2013.com/ )electric bus system pilot project.
The new boost charging technology will be deployed for the first time on a large capacity electric bus (http://www.abb.com/global/seitp/seitp202.nsf/0/e4190e0fbaeb43c5c1257b7a00535422//TOSA+bus_Geneva.jpg ), carrying as many as 135 passengers. The bus will be charged directly at selected stops with a 15-second energy boost while the passengers enter and leave the bus, based on a new type of automatic flash-charging mechanism. The pilot project runs between Geneva airport and the city's international exhibition center, Palexpo.
"Through flash charging, we are able to pilot a new generation of electric buses for urban mass transport that no longer relies on overhead lines," said Claes Rytoft, ABB's acting Chief Technology Officer. "This project will pave the way for switching to more flexible, cost-effective, public transport infrastructure while reducing pollution and noise."
TOSA (Trolleybus Optimisation Systeme Alimentation) is a zero-carbon-emission solution as the electricity used comes entirely from clean hydro power. The charging time is so quick that it does not interfere with the bus schedule and improves the urban environment and landscape as it does not need overhead lines while providing greater route flexibility. The system uses a laser-controlled moving arm, which connects to an overhead receptacle for charging at bus shelters, instead of the usual trolley poles to overhead lines.
The flash-charging technology and the onboard traction equipment used in this project were developed by ABB and optimized for high-frequency bus routes in key urban areas, carrying large numbers of passengers at peak times. Onboard batteries can be charged in 15 seconds with a 400 kilowatt boost at selected stops. At the end of the bus line a 3 to 4 minute boost enables the full recharge of the batteries. Thanks to an innovative electrical drive system, energy from the roofmounted charging equipment can be stored in compact batteries, along with the vehicle's braking energy, powering both the bus and its auxiliary services, such as interior lighting.
ABB (http://www.abb.com) is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve performance while lowering environmental impact. The ABB Group of companies operates in around 100 countries and employs about 145,000 people.

SingleHop Opens 2,000+ Server Data Center in Europe - Sees Overwhelming Demand for Amsterdam-based Infrastructure-as-a-Service
SingleHop Solutions Available Through the Amsterdam Location Including Dedicated Servers, Managed Services, and White Label Solutions
CHICAGO and AMSTERDAM, June 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- SingleHop, a global leader in highly automated dedicated servers, cloud computing, and infrastructure-as-a-service, announced today the official grand opening of its new Amsterdam data center. The new facility, announced last month, is built to meet growing demand for high-quality, automated infrastructure, and hosting services from organizations operating in Europe, Asia, and North Africa.
According to a summer 2012 report from global market intelligence firm IDC titled "Quantitative Estimates of the Demand for Cloud computing in Europe and the Likely Barriers to Uptake," the demand for public cloud services will grow from representing 1.6% of European Union IT spending in 2011 to approximately 3.6% in 2014, and 9% by 2020, representing substantial increases in adoption and demand.
In early April, SingleHop announced plans to open the facility and allowed customers to reserve server space ahead of time. More than seventy five percent of the initial data center capacity was reserved before the facility opened.
"We are very pleased by what we have been seeing. Since announcing the data center, we've been flooded with requests from hosting services providers, systems integrators, game developers, and a variety of digital startups. These types of organizations are core to our company as a whole, and represent the types of clients that benefit most from our highly automated and natively hybrid platform," commented Zak Boca, Chief Executive Officer of SingleHop.
Amsterdam was selected as the site for SingleHop's new data center for a number of reasons. Among them are the existing high-capacity fiber infrastructure, the presence of numerous top-tier network providers, and the city's large and technically skilled workforce. The new facility includes all of the security protocols found at the company's U.S. locations including five layers of physical security, 24-hour on-site staffing, and the latest biometrics-based access controls. Additionally, all of the company's current services will be offered through the new data center, including dedicated servers, and managed services. The facility is powered by SingleHop's award-winning LEAP3 platform.
"Our launch in Amsterdam shows our commitment to reducing latency, and improving our overall customer experience. Significant portions of our growth already come from clients outside of the US; a trend we expect to continue as demand for highly automated infrastructure services increases in Europe and beyond. Over the coming years, we will continue support our international customers by expanding our platform into additional new markets," added Andy Pace, Chief Operating Officer of SingleHop.
SingleHop is a dedicated server and cloud hosting company that offers highly scalable, automated, on-demand infrastructure services to both end-users and resellers. With clients in 114 countries, three geographically dispersed U.S.-based data centers and a new facility in Amsterdam; SingleHop provides dedicated, cloud, and managed services to more than 4,000 customers with 10,000+ servers online. SingleHop delivers state-of-the-art resources and services with industry-leading deployment time and custom support. Tabula Releases 100G Ethernet Packet Parser Reference Design Kit
Spacetime 3D Architecture Enables a New Approach to L2-L4 Packet Parsing
SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/-- Tabula Inc., advancing high-performance programmable logic solutions for network infrastructure systems, today announced the availability of the latest addition to its suite of high-performance packet processing solutions: the 100G Ethernet Packet Parser Reference Design Kit. This latest kit is based on its new ABAX2P1 3PLD and supported by its Stylus revision 2.6.2 compiler.
The new 100 GbE packet parser represents a novel approach to this class of network functions, delivering a unique combination of programmability and low latency currently not achievable on a programmable device. It provides support for multiple L2 accesses and trunk frame formats and is easily scalable to support L3 and L4 parsing. It also benefits from a very small footprint - less than 2K LUTs for a single 100G stream, making it an extremely cost-effective and power-efficient programmable solution that can be extended to support multiple 100G streams on a single chip.
Tabula's Spacetime architecture enables designers to co-optimize performance and density. Combining programmable fabric in which all components can operate at 2 GHz with multi-port high-performance memories, this unique architecture opens the doors to design solutions that could not be explored before. In this 100 GbE packet parser reference design, these capabilities are used to parallelize the processing of multiple fields of an entire 100 GbE packet header, enabling the parsing function to be completed in a record 17 ns latency and making the parser software configurable to handle different L2 formats or extended to L3 and L4 parsing.
More about the 100 GbE packet parser
The 100 GbE packet parser includes the following features:
-- 149M packets/sec at the minimum packet size of 64 bytes
-- 100 GbE stream support at 100% efficiency
-- Deterministic latency of 17 ns

PXI and LabVIEW Meet Next-Generation Load Pull Measurement Speed Challenges
PXI Speed, Size, and Synchronization Capabilities Improve Measurement Time for Modern Load Pull Test Systems
SEATTLE, June 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- IMS - Today at the International Microwave Symposium,National Instruments (NATI) announced joint development on load pull solutions fromAnteverta Microwave, Focus Microwaves, Maury Microwave and Mesuro. These load pull solution vendors are combining their expertise with NI PXI hardware and LabVIEW system design software to overcome the increasingly difficult source and load pull characterization requirements placed on microwave power amplifiers for aerospace and defense and wireless infrastructure applications.
Load pull characterization is an essential tool to increase the efficiency of power amplifiers. Due to time and cost, vendors have historically performed load pull during design. Today, however, the industry-leading speed and flexibility of a PXI-based system make it possible to verify power amplifier performance during production test.
NI PXI is part of the LabVIEW reconfigurable I/O (RIO) architecture, which includes the latest computing technologies, such as multicore CPUs and FPGAs, and a single, common development language. Anteverta Microwave, Focus Microwaves, Maury Microwave and Mesuro are using this architecture, along with their unique approaches, to help their customers simplify test and decrease time to market.
Quotes From Load Pull Providers:
"The high-speed and modulated impedance capabilities we get from using the NI PXI form factor have helped us create a solution that is ideal for power amplifier characterization during development, pre-production and production testing," Mauro Marchetti, Anteverta Microwave CEO said. "LabVIEW greatly simplifies the user-programmability of our system."
"Modular PXI products such as the NI vector network analyzer simplify the load pull setup by merging all instruments into a convenient low-cost chassis, which improves overall measurement speed and usability," Steve Dudkiewicz, director of marketing and business development at Maury Microwave said. "The system guarantees adaptability as new technologies and modulation schemes emerge because we can add PXI modules ad hoc, and users can modify and script custom load pull sequences using an NI open-source load pull toolkit in LabVIEW."
"Using the latest generation of commercial off-the-shelf NI PXI hardware in our RAPID load pull technique helps our customers test significantly faster compared with traditional test methodologies," Simon Mathias, vice president of sales at Mesuro said. "It was easy to embed customer-specific signal processing into the onboard FPGA, further speeding up the system performance by using the embedded processor. All this in combination with the PXI RF upconversion and downconversion elements allows a smooth operation."
"We are very excited to integrate NI PXI modules into our load pull solutions," Zacharia Ouardirhi, general manager at Focus Microwaves said. "They are compact, fast, cost-effective, adaptable and accurate, and they will enable many features that were previously available only to high-end and expensive setups."
The NI platform, ecosystem and software-designed approach provide tremendous speed, accuracy and flexibility benefits for RF, microwave and wireless applications.
