Hisense Sero 7 Series Tablets Available in the U.S.
Gives Boost to Walmart's Presence in E-commerce Market
QINGDAO, China, June 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Hisense (http://www.hisense.com) and Walmart jointly announced on May 23rd (local New York time) that the Sero 7 series tablets, preinstalled with a package of applications including VUDU and walmart.com, will be immediately available in over 3,300 Walmart stores across the U.S.
This is an important win-win cooperation between Hisense and Walmart, rather than merely a new product release.
Since its expansion into the global e-commerce market in 2000, Walmart has acquired several internet companies in a move to expand its online presence. In addition to the significant investment to acquire Kosmix in 2011 and forming @WalmartLabs, which focuses on internet strategies, Walmart has acquired several social mobile technology firms including Tasty Labs and OneOps as part of its plans to further enhance its e-commerce technologies and its presence on the web.
While Walmart aims to be number one in the mobile desktop sector, Hisense aims to enrich its current assortment of electronic products. The cooperation with Walmart will accelerate the sales pace of Hisense's smart TVs both online and offline.
Honeywell Unveils "Garrett Original Reman" Turbochargers For Independent Aftermarket
- Honeywell remanufactures turbos to OEM specifications
- New product range a perfect fit for older vehicles seeking quality and value
ROLLE, Switzerland, June 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Honeywell (NYSE: HON) Transportation Systems, a leading global developer of automotive turbochargers, today announced its new "Garrett Original Reman" line of remanufactured turbochargers for the independent aftermarket in Europe.
Honeywell is qualified to produce remanufactured turbos having developed the original equipment specifications for numerous applications in cooperation with global automotive manufacturers. Garrett Original Reman turbos have been meticulously restored, recalibrated and rebalanced, for the independent aftermarket ensuring seamless integration with vehicle engines.
"As the original turbo designer, Honeywell has the technical knowledge and manufacturing experience to deliver Garrett units matching the engine management system requirements through its original assembly, calibration and testing processes," said Olivier Rabiller, vice president and general manager of Honeywell Transportation Systems Aftermarket. "The Garrett brand - synonymous with quality performance and reliability - is introducing a product developed with these core values to the independent aftermarket across Europe."
Each Garrett Original Reman turbo is re-assembled to the same specifications as original new parts and inspected against original production drawings. As a starting point, Garrett remanufactured turbos receive several new original components, such as actuators, compressor wheels, bearing systems, seals, O-rings, piston ring seals, bolts and clamps. As an additional customer benefit, any part which has been upgraded since its original introduction will be replaced with the newer part in a remanufactured Garrett turbo.
"We have worked with our distribution network to answer a growing need in the market for a reliable remanufactured turbo replacement with an attractive price point for owners of older vehicles," said Rabiller. "We recognize that Europe has an aging car parc and consumers are looking for this type of solution that offers great value for the late-model car owner who needs a repair, but doesn't need or want to pay for a completely new part."
The complexity of Garrett turbos involves rotational speeds in excess of 250,000 rotations per minute. These highly precise boosting technologies require component tolerances that can be as small as 4 microns - the same as a particle of dust and 17 times smaller than a human hair.
"Given the incredible sophistication of modern turbos and the extreme conditions under which they perform, experience has shown that reliable replacements are much more likely when manufactured to the original specifications," said Rabiller. "While consumers may be tempted by the savings of other remanufactured turbochargers, the implications to vehicle performance and fuel consumption may be significant and can lead to even more costly vehicle repairs. In this case, it is not wise to expect the savings associated with non-original replacements are scaled to an acceptable level of performance and durability."
Garrett Original Reman turbos will come with the same warranty as its new replacement turbochargers. The new Garrett Original Reman turbos continue to ramp up production and are available only through the independent aftermarket across continental Europe.

$1.3BN Annual Benefits From Hospedia Bedside IT Systems
SLOUGH, England, June 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
A set of studies from Deloitte has identified significant potential economic benefits
for acute National Health Service (NHS) hospitals in the United Kingdom from a range of
bedside IT services provided by Hospedia, who commissioned the work.
Using these studies, Hospedia has calculated that a typical 500 bed hospital could
benefit by over $9 million each year by using bedside software systems to improve patient
care and streamline clinical workflow. Extending this result across Hospedia's existing
158 sites shows that those hospitals could benefit by over $1.3bn a year. Full copies of
the Deloitte reports, upon which Hospedia's estimates have been based, are available upon
request, making clear the assumptions upon which their work is based.
Hospedia point of care systems provide patient media, patient engagement and clinical
workflow solutions including: electronic meal ordering; real time patient feedback;
patient flow management; and direct access to clinical IT systems at the bedside -
allowing hospitals to deliver enhanced clinical support to staff and patients at the point
of care.
Commenting on the research, Hospedia Chief Executive Tim Weil said:
"We're delighted that the scale of economic benefits Hospedia's services can bring has
been recognised in the work conducted by Deloitte, suggesting that these services are
capable of delivering financial benefits worth at least $9m per annum in a typical
hospital. Our services support not only cost improvement goals but also greater patient
engagement and involvement and improvements in patient care - all alongside releasing
vital staff hours that can be redirected to frontline care. As we move into international
markets with our partner Barco, these innovations ensure that we can lead the way globally
in offering a fully integrated patient care solution."
Notes to Editors
The analysis from Deloitte spanned 5 separate reports across 5 key solutions offered
by Hospedia to a typical 500 bed hospital. Hospedia has applied the benefits pro-rata to
its existing estate and has adjusted for benefits that could be double counted in order to
calculate the total potential value. Full copies of the Deloitte reports are available on
request and the results of this work should be considered alongside the assumptions and
sources that are made clear within these reports.
Hospedia is the world's leading provider of point of care systems in healthcare,
including media, information, clinical support software and infrastructure services. We
manage 70,000 multimedia systems serving up to 10 million patients, 5 million visitors and
500,000 healthcare professionals a year in more than 155 hospitals. These systems can be
configured to deliver healthcare applications and services, making use of the PC
functionality already installed at the bedside. For patients, Hospedia's aim is to make a

Zoezi Park - A Game for Fall Prevention for Healthy Aging, Wellness and Balance - First Crowdfunding Initiative Launched to Address a $28B Public Health Problem
Falls are among the top killers of people over the age of 65. Preventing falls and subsequent life-threatening injuries is a top priority of the Blue Marble Game Company.
LOS ANGELES, June 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Blue Marble launches its first crowdfunding campaign to develop an interactive falls prevention video game called Zoezi Park, an initiative facilitated by the Alfred E. Mann Institute at the University of Southern California and When You Wish.
Using cameras and sensors to track movement, the video game creates a computer-generated avatar that mimics the player onscreen. Playing from their home, gym or rehab facility, Zoezi Park guides the player through activities to improve balance and physical strength while recording data of their progress. The data can be viewed by any healthcare professional with an internet connection.
As a company, Blue Marble's history has primarily been developing games for service members and veterans who have experienced mild traumatic brain injuries and concussions. Their previous products were funded by the Department of Defense (DOD) and include Treasure of Bell Island and RESET, which are 'gamified' assessments and interventions for cognitive skills.
The National Institute on Aging supported the concept and funded the initial development of Zoezi Park. But due to the government's budget sequestration, funding is no longer available. Because of this, Blue Marble is asking for public support, through crowdfunding, to assist them.
Each day 10,000 baby boomers turn 65, with one out of three of them experiencing a fall each year. Medical costs from falls in 2010 were more than 28-billion dollars. That cost is expected to increase to 50-billion over the next 10 years. Each fall-related injury costs $48,000 on average.
About Blue Marble Game Company
The games of Blue Marble Rehab Inc. entertain, engage, educate and challenge physical and cognitive skills for people of all ages and abilities. -- Secure Personal VPN Product Adds Cross-Platform Support
SINGAPORE, June 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- iTwin is excited to announce the addition of Mac OS X (Mountain Lion, Lion, Snow Leopard) compatibility to iTwin Connect, a unique combination of Private VPN and Public VPN services, built around a plug-&-play USB device for enhanced security and ease of use.
The iTwin Connect device consists of two identical halves.
To create a Private VPNto access a home/office network, simply plug the device with both its halves joined together into a USB port on any computer in your home/office network to initialize the device. Detach one half of the device and plug it into your Internet-connected laptop - a secure VPN tunnel is instantly created to the home/office computer. iTwin Connect thus enables you to setup a VPN server and access your home/office network remotely.
To use the Public VPN to tunnel out of a restricted network or to browse privately, simply plug one half of the device into your computer and select one of the public servers deployed by iTwin. Public VPN is especially useful during travel to regions with internet restrictions or at times when users are unable to leave a server running at home/office.
Other Benefits of iTwin Connect include:
-- Remote Desktop: Launch the improved "remote desktop" on both Macs and
PCs with a single click, to access applications (and their data) on the
home/office computer.
-- Remote File Access: Access all shared files on the home/office computer,
via the standard file interface and from within the applications on the
laptop.
-- Hardware Grade Security: All data transmitted is encrypted using
industrial strength AES 256 bit encryption. Every time the two halves
are paired, they generate a unique crypto key that is used to generate a
session key which protects all data transmitted over the Internet. iTwin
Connect also provides an optional password for 2-factor authentication.
Only you possess the hardware "key" required for remote access.
-- No Fees: There are no subscription fees. You just make the one-time
payment for lifetime use of the device.

Livio launches 'Keys' marketplace and FM Traffic Button at Telematics Detroit
DETROIT, June 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Livio today announced two new products at Telematics Update, Livio Keys and the FM Traffic Button, designed to generate new revenue for car manufacturers and app developers.
"Customer retention is important in automotive and Livio Keys is a great line of communication between OEMs, dealerships, customers and app partners," Livio founder and CEO Jake Sigal said. Livio Keys is intended to be a communications solution for everything related to autos and apps. SD Association Introduces smartSD Memory Cards With SWP Interface For NFC
microSD memory cards now support secure smart card value-added services
SAN RAMON, Calif., June 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- SD Association has opened new markets with the addition of the Single Wire Protocol (SWP) to support Near Field Communications (NFC) features and facilitate the introduction of new business models that allow for a Secure Element to the popular microSD memory card. The smartSD memory card can provide authentication services, moving control of consumers' service applications from the service provider to the consumer. The enhanced smartSD memory card reinforces the value of microSD slotted smartphones, tablets, computers and other consumer electronic devices.
smartSD memory cards can now be manufactured by SD Association members in the popular microSD form factor in SD, SDHC and SDXC capacities. The smartSD memory cards can be purchased by, or issued to, consumers from any service provider including banks, credit card companies, retailers, transportation providers and governments. With smartSD, service providers gain a new way to differentiate their offerings with unique value-added services, addressing customers of any mobile network operators, device manufacturers and proprietary app stores. Service providers can manage the life cycle of their Secure Element using the same business process used today for other smart cards and credit cards, while mobile network operators gain a new option to support their value added services. Plus, consumers can continue to cost-effectively expand the storage of their portable devices and shrink the number of rewards, transport, bank or library cards they carry in their wallets by loading those services into their smartSD memory card.
"Completing the enhancement to smartSD marks the achievement of a strategy announced in 2011 to find new markets that would benefit from SD standards," said Brian Kumagai, president of the SD Association. "Adding smart-chip technology to microSD memory cards gives SD equipped smart phones and phablets new consumer conveniences whether they're connected to the Internet or not. We know consumers want more flexibility to expand their storage needs, and a simple way to participate in a variety of value-added services offered by a variety of companies and institutions today."
Transforming mobile CE devices into electronic wallets is possible with smartSD memory cards. Securely carrying cashless currency and paperless identification for use in making everyday purchases such as coffee, food, transportation tickets, or in receiving customized subscription services like mobile television, makes smartSD memory cards a necessity rather than a concept. The ability to manage identity features on CE devices increases consumer control over their personal data compared to the legacy individual card per value-added service provider approach. It also gives consumers greater security than cloud-based solutions since the smart-chip enabled SD memory cards would only be active in a consumer-authorized device.
smartSD Technology Summary
smartSD memory cards leverage the world-leading SD architecture and Advanced Security SD (ASSD) standard, allowing transfer ISO 7816 Application Protocol Data Unit commands to for example JavaCard(TM) applets and responses through the SD bus. The standard adds mechanical contact pads and electrical interface for the SWP between microSD and NFC RF device on the host. smartSD can be personalized, alleviating the need for a trusted service manager (TSM) at launch, but it allows for additional services to be added later. Watch a video, download a presentation and learn more about smartSD at http://www.sdcard.org/developers/overview/ASSD/smartsd/
SD Association
The SD Association is a global ecosystem of more than 1,000 technology companies charged with setting interoperable SD standards. The association encourages the development of consumer electronic, wireless communication, digital imaging and networking products that utilize market-leading SD technology. The SD standard is the number one choice for consumers and has earned more than 80 percent of the memory card market with its reliable interoperability and its easy-to-use format. Today, mobile phones, Blu-ray players, HDTVs, audio players, automotive multimedia systems, handheld PCs, digital cameras and digital video cameras feature SD interoperability. Harness the Power of Dreamy Luigi in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros. Released on 12th July
LONDON, June 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Make a date with the famous brothers in a new adventure - from the
mysterious Pi'illo Island to the deepest recesses of Luigi's dreams!
With great success in countless quests down the years, it's as if the powerful pairing
of Mario and Luigi can defeat enemies in their sleep. In Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros.,
released on 12th July for the Nintendo 3DS
[http://www.nintendo.co.uk/Nintendo-3DS/Nintendo-3DS-94560.html ] family of consoles, the
brothers put such a theory to the test in a new adventure set on both an island near the
realm of the Mushroom Kingdom, and within the depths of Luigi's own dreams!
In this fourth instalment of the popular RPG series Mario & Luigi, the story opens
with Princess Peach and her staff, plus brothers Mario and Luigi in tow, being invited for
a sightseeing trip to the mysterious Pi'illo Island by its equally mysterious proprietor,
Dr Snoozemore. But after an initially hospitable welcoming to the island - albeit with Dr
Snoozemore noticeably absent - things take a turn for the worse when Princess Peach is
kidnapped and pulled into a Dream World by a new enemy in the series, the ghostly bat king
Antasma.
To chase down this new foe and rescue Princess Peach, Mario must enter this Dream
World through the dreams of a sleeping Luigi, whose brain is revealed to be on a
wavelength with the population of Pi'illo Island, the Pi'illo Folk. Alternating between
Luigi's Dream World and the real world, Mario and Luigi must solve puzzles, battle
enemies, and even interact with creations of Luigi's own imagination in order to succeed!
The relationship between the real world and Dream World plays a critical role within
the game. While roaming the Pi'illo Island environment in the real world, Mario and Luigi
need to combine equally to use trademark Bros. Moves, while in the Dream World, it is the
power of Dreamy Luigi that is all-important in supporting Mario. For example, Luiginary
Works are magical ways in which the player can interact with the Dream World environment
through Luigi's sleeping form. Whether it is tweaking Luigi's moustache or scratching his
nose on the bottom screen of the console, this interaction provokes a reaction in the
Dream World, affecting the environment to the benefit of Mario.
In the Dream World battle sequences, the power of Dreamy Luigi once again comes to the
fore when a horde of Luigis power up Mario to create formidable Luiginary Attacks, moves
which greatly differ from the trademark Bros. Attacks in the real world, and which make
use of the capabilities of the Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo 3DS XL
[http://www.nintendo.co.uk/games/oms/3DS_XL/3DS_XL_en_GB ] consoles in original ways. As an
example, one Luiginary Attack comprises Mario riding on top of a ball of Luigis, with the
player using the motion controls of the console to navigate the ball's course to crush the
enemies that lie ahead. Whether attacking, counterattacking or dodging in battle, the 3D
capabilities of the console are also critical for players to judge perfectly timed
actions.
When a battle is won, the levelling-up mechanic in-game follows a classic RPG formula,
with experience points earned, improving common attributes such as health points and
power, plus the addition of classic franchise attributes such as Bro Points - needed to
perform special attacks - and STACHE - influencing the chance of Mario or Luigi scoring a
critical hit in battle - remaining in this latest instalment in the Mario & Luigi series.
Also following previous games in the series is a badge reward system, whereby both
brothers can find or buy badges in-game that can be combined to earn the brothers useful
rewards after certain actions - such as performing 'excellent' attacks - are carried out
in battle. For those new to the series meanwhile, hint messages, an easy mode and a slow
attack mode will help players get to grips with the battle sequences.
Uncover the power of Dreamy Luigi in the latest adventure in the Mario & Luigi series
when Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros. comes to the Nintendo 3DS family of consoles on 12th
July. More details will be revealed about the Mario game

Intel set to Power Polar Explorer Ben Saunders' Historic Scott Expedition
SANTA CLARA, California, June 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
4th Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) Processor to ensure Ben Saunders South Pole
journey is a 21st Century expedition
NEWS HIGHLIGHTS
- Polar explorer Ben Saunders and his partner Tarka L'Herpiniere will
attempt to be the first people to complete the 1800 mile return journey from the coast
of Antarctica to the South Pole which British Royal Navy Captain Robert Scott famously
attempted 1910-1912.
- The expedition will utilise Ultrabook devices powered by new 4th generation
Intel(R) Core(TM) processor technology to achieve unprecedented levels of
communication, and record vital data from the Polar region, in temperatures of -40C.
- Ben will be able to update Twitter, Facebook and blog content along the way,
as well as upload video content for the dedicated Scott Expedition YouTube channel.
This is a 21st Century expedition, which thanks to Intel technology can be shared more
widely than ever before.
Intel(R) Corporation is proud to announce that it is the technology sponsor for polar
explorer Ben Saunders' attempt to replicate the Terra Nova expedition - a return trip from
the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole that British Royal Navy Captain Robert Falcon
Scott attempted in 1912 and that no person has completed since.
Intel's ground-breaking 4th generation Intel(R) Core(TM) processor technology will
power the expedition, enabling Ben to communicate with his supporters during his 1800 mile
round trip, as well as record vital data from the region.
Ben will be equipped with a 4th Generation Intel Core processor powered Sony VAIO(R)
Pro Ultrabook(TM), which at jus 870g is the lightest Ultrabook yet. This makes Ben one of
the first people to use the latest Intel(R) Core(TM) processor technology. He will connect
to the Internet using an Intel NUC (Next Unit of Computing) device. The NUC will have a
24/7 data connection via satellite phone to a server in London and both it and the
Ultrabook device will charge via solar panels attached to a specially designed sled. Ben
will be able to upload video, photos, data and blog content with minimal delay, enabling
him to share his journey, as it happens, with the world.
The Polar region that the expedition will travel through is so remote that data
gathered by Scott's original expedition team in 1912 remains one of its most complete
sources of documentation, and is still used by climate scientists to this day.
The technology used for the expedition will operate in temperatures of -45o;
conditions which have been replicated in Intel's UK labs for testing. Ultrabooks and NUCs
like those being used by Ben have been frozen in Intel thermal chambers, defrosted and
operated, then frozen again overnight for periods of months at a time to benchmark their
performance when exposed to extended periods of extreme cold.
The 4th Generation Intel Core processor that will power Ben's Ultrabook marks a
revolution in computing technology. Features such as significantly increased battery life,
made possible by improvements in battery efficiency; operation speeds, thanks to more
processing power, and decreased size and weight, thanks to advancements in Intel chip
technology, enable it to power unprecedented communication from the South Pole.
Commenting on Intel's support of the Scott Expedition, Patrick Bliemer, Regional
Manager for Intel Northern Europe, said: "We are delighted to be supporting this
record-breaking attempt by Ben Saunders to complete the Scott Expedition. That Intel
technology will help him share his experience with audiences around the world, and bring
back data from the Pole that will help uncover mysteries that remain to this day, is a
source of much pride for the team here."
Ben Saunders said, "The Scott Expedition will be both the greatest and most meaningful
challenge I've ever taken on. Physically it sits on the very limits of human potential and
will require every inch of resilience and determination we can summon to complete it.
Equally, it is an opportunity to recognise the remarkable work of Captain Scott and his
men and use the benefits of Intel's latest technology to celebrate his story worldwide in
a way that hasn't been possible before. I'm immensely grateful for Intel's support in
providing the technology to make this happen."

New Research Identifies $44 Billion Copy Data Problem
LONDON, June 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Businesses Now Spending 60% of Disk Capacity, 65% of Storage Software, and 85% of
Storage Hardware to Manage Unnecessary Copies of Production Data, Worldwide
According to a new IDC White Paper, companies worldwide are spending $44 billion on
storage hardware and software to manage unnecessary copies of enterprise data. The new
white paper [http://www.actifio.com/copydata ] reveals details on the magnitude and scope
of this problem, including the fact that despite the deployment of deduplication
technologies, 85% of storage hardware and 65% of storage software purchases are currently
being expended in support of excess duplicate data. The research is based on IDC's market
revenue and forecast data, as well as a survey of over 700 IT managers across 16 vertical
industries worldwide.
Siloed business resilience and agility applications were found to create up to 120
excess copies of production data. Managing this excess now consumes more enterprise
resources than the management of production data itself.
"Over the past 30 years, technologists have adopted multiple overlapping technologies
to manage information, which has resulted in a tremendous amount of copying," said Laura
DuBois, Program Vice President, IDC Storage Practice. "While maintaining copies of data is
essential for service quality, at some point this maintenance goes from being an insurance
policy to paranoia. We now know what this paranoia costs, and the numbers may very well
rock the industry."
IDC's data points illustrating the scope of the copy data storage market:
- Last year, more than 60 % of all enterprise disk capacity worldwide was
filled with copy data
- In 2012, 85 % of hardware purchases and 65 % of storage infrastructure
software revenue was spent on copy data management
- 78 % of the 711 survey respondents expect to see more capacity allocated to
storing data copies in the next 12 months
- By 2016, spending on storage for copy data will approach $50 billion and copy
data capacity will exceed 300 exabytes (3 million terabytes)
- By 2016, companies will spend 8 times more on copy data
[http://www.idc.com/getdoc.jsp?containerId=prUS24069113 ] as they will on big data
analytics
- As reason for the growth in copy data, 70 % of the respondents cited the
increased number of apps, while more than 50 % cited more copies per app being
created
- In the next 12 months, survey respondents expect increased use of data
copies for app development and testing, regulatory compliance, multi-user access and
long-term archival
"The introduction of a purpose-built copy data management solution by Actifio has
effectively created a new market segment - copy data management. IDC has placed this
market segment inside storage infrastructure software - one of the core functional storage
software markets." Said Ashish Nadkarni, Research Director, IDC Storage Systems.
"Actifio's solution has serious implications on how businesses procure storage assets and
in the process shut storage suppliers out of the secondary data copy management
conversation."
IDC sized the magnitude of the copy data market both in terms of spending and
capacity, using its forecast models and tracker data. It complemented this data with
primary research data based on a survey of 711 decision makers responsible for purchasing
and/or managing enterprise storage systems. The market model forecasts copy data capacity
and spend to grow at 23.5% and 5.4% CAGR respectively.
"It is an old story now that companies are faced with exponential data growth," said
Ash Ashutosh, CEO and co-founder, Actifio. "As illustrated by IDC's definitive research,
the driver of this exponential growth is copy data. This validates what our users have
been experiencing for years that by storing only one copy of data to use for multiple
purposes you can save up 90% with Copy Data Management solutions like Actifio."

Customers to benefit from nation's fastest 4G LTE network on the latest devices
BATESVILLE, Ark., June 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T* has turned on the nation's fastest 4G LTE network** in Batesville, bringing customers the latest generation of wireless network technology.
AT&T 4G LTE coverage now includes parts of Batesville, Newark, Newport, Pleasant Plains and surrounding communities.
Watch here to see several of the benefits AT&T 4G LTE provides, including:
-- Faster speeds. LTE technology is capable of delivering mobile Internet
speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G***. Customers can stream, download,
upload and game faster than ever before.
-- Cool new devices. AT&T offers several LTE-compatible devices, including
new AT&T 4G LTE smartphones and tablets.
-- Faster response time. LTE technology offers lower latency, or the
processing time it takes to move data through a network, such as how
long it takes to start downloading a webpage or file once you've sent
the request. Lower latency helps to improve services like mobile gaming,
two-way video calling and telemedicine.
-- More efficient use of spectrum. Wireless spectrum is a finite resource,
and LTE uses spectrum more efficiently than other technologies, creating
more space to carry data traffic and services and to deliver a better
network experience.
"Thanks AT&T for investing in our community," said Sen. David Burnett. "The new LTE network will bring greater speed and better reliability. With more and more people relying on smartphones and wireless tablets to stay connected, we welcome the network upgrade."
"We continue to see demand for mobile Internet skyrocket, and our 4G LTE network in the Batesville area responds to what customers want from their mobile experience -- more, faster, on the best devices," said Ed Drilling, president of AT&T Arkansas. "AT&T invested more than $700 million in our Arkansas wireless and wireline networks over the past four years with a focus on improving the overall performance of our networks."
AT&T's 4G Network
AT&T's innovation and investment has resulted in the nation's largest 4G network, covering more than 292 million people with ultra-fast speeds and a more consistent user experience. Our 4G LTE network delivered faster average download and upload speeds than any of our competitors in PCWorld/TechHive's most recent 20-market speed tests.
AT&T's 4G LTE network delivers speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G, as well as multiple innovations that optimize the network for performance. Our network's radio components are placed close to the antenna at most cell sites, instead of inside the base station, which helps minimize power loss between the base station and antenna and, in turn, improves the performance of our 4G LTE network. The network also is designed with its core elements distributed across the country, which helps reduce latency, or the delay when using the Internet, because your request isn't traveling as far.
Even as AT&T continues to expand its 4G LTE coverage, customers can get 4G speeds outside of 4G LTE areas on our 4G HSPA+ network, unlike some competitors, where smartphone customers may fall back to slower 3G technologies when outside of LTE coverage.
AT&T's focus to deliver the best possible mobile Internet experience goes beyond 4G to embrace additional connection technologies. AT&T operates the nation's largest Wi-Fi network**** including more than 32,000 AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots at popular restaurants, hotels, bookstores and retailers, and provides access to more than 402,000 hotspots globally through roaming agreements. Most AT&T smartphone customers get access to our entire national Wi-Fi network at no additional cost, and Wi-Fi usage doesn't count against customers' monthly wireless data plans.
AT&T also is a leading developer of Distributed Antenna Systems, which utilize multiple small antennas to maximize coverage and speed within stadiums, convention centers, office buildings, hotels and other areas where traditional coverage methods are challenging.
Over the past five years, AT&T invested nearly $98 billion into its operations across the country. Since 2008, AT&T has invested more capital into the U.S. economy than any other public company. In a July 2012 report, the Progressive Policy Institute ranked AT&T No. 1 on its list of U.S. "Investment Heroes."
