G-Technology(TM) Delivers Solid State Drive-Like Sustained Performance In A Compact External Hard Drive Solution
Bringing Professional Tools to the Masses, G-Technology's New G-DRIVE(TM) PRO with Thunderbolt® Portable External Hard Drive Enables 2K and 4K Digital Cinema, 2K DLSR/ Photography and Other Digital Content Creation Workflows
LAS VEGAS, April 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- National Association of Broadcasters (NAB 2013) Booth #SL12105 -- G-Technology, a leader in delivering premium storage solutions for audio/video production, photography and the creative professional market, announced today its new G-DRIVE PRO with Thunderbolt, a compact, desktop external hard drive that delivers hard drive capacity with SSD-like performance, taking full advantage of the speed and power of Thunderbolt. Leveraging G-Technology's well-known G-DRIVE design, the new G-DRIVE PRO with Thunderbolt delivers sustained data transfer rates of up to 480MB/s, which is up to three times faster than standard 3.5-inch desktop external hard drives. The broader creative professional market now has access to an extremely high-performance, high-capacity and portable editing solution for maintaining 2K and 4K¹ workflows.
Storage Evolved
New high-resolution media formats and related files sizes require massive storage and faster data transfer rates to efficiently edit and distribute content throughout the workflow. For example, an uncompressed 2K digital video format consumes more than one terabyte (1TB) per hour and requires approximately 305 megabytes per second (MB/s) sustained throughput for smooth editing with no dropped frames. These high-resolution video formats, along with the rising popularity of higher megapixel DSLR cameras that shoot professional 2K video, has created a need for a new high-performance storage solution designed to meet the needs of today's digital content creators.
Previously, most storage solutions able to support 2K and 4K were either bulky multi-bay solutions, or were extremely expensive and sacrificed needed capacity for the performance of SSDs. By bringing the cost of entry down for those making the jump to richer media formats such as 2K and 4K, G-Technology is empowering today's independent professionals and other small production studios with more cost-effective, efficient workflows.
Introducing the New G-DRIVE PRO with Thunderbolt
No external storage solution using a single 3.5-inch hard drive form factor has taken advantage of the performance of Thunderbolt - until now. Delivering sustained data transfer rates of up to 480MB/s, the new G-DRIVE PRO with Thunderbolt is a performance leader in the desktop, external hard drive category. Optimal for Thunderbolt-enabled Mac® systems, the G-DRIVE PRO with Thunderbolt is easily transportable for editing in the field or in the studio. Based on G-Technology's high-quality G-DRIVE design, it provides dual Thunderbolt ports for future external storage expansion and to daisy chain with other Thunderbolt-based devices. It easily supports compressed 4K and multiple streams of 2K, HDV, DVCPro HD, XDCAM HD, ProRes 4444 and uncompressed SD workflows. With up to 4TB capacity, the G-DRIVE PRO with Thunderbolt is Mac-formatted and is Apple® Time Machine® ready.
"We work closely with many high-profile studios and independent professionals, so we understand the rigorous requirements of production workflows. With our latest product release, we continue to deliver high-performance and reliable external storage solutions that our customers have come to expect from G-Technology," said Mike Williams, vice president and general manager, G-Technology/HGST Branded Business. "In a class of its own, the G-DRIVE PRO with Thunderbolt combines outstanding performance, innovative patent-pending technology, reliability and ample capacity so digital content creators can focus on their creativity, not their gear."
The G-DRIVE Pro with Thunderbolt will be available this summer through G-Technology and its Premier Channel Partners. The MSRP for the 4TB G-DRIVE with Thunderbolt will be $849.95. A 2TB G-DRIVE PRO with Thunderbolt solution will be available for $699.95.

TORONTO, April 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ - ViXS Systems Inc., a leading provider of
smart network multimedia processors and MELD Technology, leading
provider of Pico Broadcast Systems, sending your content to any DTV
ever made today announced the release of the MT300 series of Pico
Broadcasters. MELD's patented Pico Broadcasters enable use of TV
White Space spectrum for sending HD video and control signals
over-the-air using unlicensed spectrum.
The XCode 4208 System on Chip (SoC), is the brains and video processing
brawn for MELD's feature-rich family of industry leading products. The

convention centers, schools and hospitals. If you can plug a TV into an
electric outlet, you have an instant content viewing platform that is
limited only by the number of TVs you have in the transmit range of the
MT300.
"The MT300 is an excellent compliment to a digital media player because
it eliminates the complexity, clutter and restrictions of connecting
cables," said Jordan DuVal, President/CEO of MELD. "It also reduces
the time and cost for deployment and content distribution. By shrinking
the cost and complexity of the same proven technology used by
professional broadcasters, businesses of all sizes can now Personally
Broadcast their content directly to any DTV. The fact that the Vixs
Xcode 4208 SOC MIPs processor with embedded Linux runs our webserver
application while also performing the broadcast quality video encoding
has been a major benefit for MELD."
MELD's system uses TV White Space spectrum to reliably send large
amounts of HD resolution video using the same type of UHF spectrum as
broadcasters. This enables excellent coverage and non-line-of-site
connectivity. It obtains the available UHF white space channels for
streaming from the Spectrum Bridge spectrum management database. The
MELD solution complies with ATSC standards and uses the same
frequencies standard Digital TV can already receive.
"The MELD Pico Broadcaster is a world's first and we are proud to be an
essential part of this product," said John Pomeroy, Vice President of
ViXS' Infrastructure product line, "The benefit of wireless video
broadcast enabled by the ViXS Xcode technologies is that it meets all

SRI International Begins Final Development of Commercial Trusted Mobility Devices for U.S. Marine Corps
MENLO PARK, Calif., April 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- SRI International has begun the final phase of a one-year, $3.8 million contract with the U.S. Marine Corps Systems Command to develop and commercialize multiple-personality mobile devices. The goal of the Trusted Handheld program is to solve problems that arise when personal mobile devices are used for business purposes.
SRI is leading a research and development team that includes Galois Corporation, General Dynamics Broadband, and LG Electronics. The team is embedding domain isolation, encryption, policy, and related security technologies into smartphones for evaluations by carriers later this year.
The Trusted Handheld program was created by the U.S. Marine Corps to encourage development of commercially available multiple-personality mobile devices that meet corporate needs and could be used to access sensitive and classified information. As the business use of employee-owned smartphones and tablets proliferate, and as IT departments struggle to implement secure and cost-effective Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policies, the Marine Corps is helping the mobile device industry address isolation between personal and enterprise domains so that Government users will be able to leverage resultant commercial products.
To complete the project, SRI is leveraging more than 30 years of fundamental research on isolation technology, separation kernels, and multiple independent levels of security to develop a mobile device architecture that will work for the commercial marketplace while meeting the security needs of the Department of Defense and other Government departments.
"Our approach is to meet customer demands for a user-friendly mobile device that simultaneously ensures personal privacy and enterprise security," said Jeffrey Casper, program director, Engineering & Systems Group, SRI International. "This same commercial smartphone will support the military. An Unclassified Domain can access secure records such as business e-mail, medical data, fitness reports, training apps, military avatars, and a Secret Domain can access data and applications related to operations."
The team successfully delivered 150 proof-of-concept dual-mode smartphones in September 2012 and a second 150 prototype dual-mode smartphones in February 2013. The team will deliver 150 advanced prototypes in June 2013 for the Department of Defense's certification and accreditation evaluations.

American Well Announces Telehealth Pilot for Clinical Care Programs at Massachusetts General Hospital
Extending world-class mental health, heart failure and neurology care to patients
BOSTON, April 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- American Well® today announced a three-pronged telehealth pilot program at Massachusetts General Hospital (Mass General). This program is designed to bring healthcare services to current patients in Massachusetts, focusing first on Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Heart Failure and Neurology, by making physicians available to patients through live, real-time video visits.
"Telemedicine is a critical tool in improving access to care and overcoming barriers created by geography, income or social circumstance," said Dr. Lee H. Schwamm, Vice Chair of Neurology and Medical Director of TeleHealth at Massachusetts General Hospital. "The technology enables us to extend our reach and deliver the highest quality of care to members of our own system and to a broader population of patients as well."
Through a six-month pilot with Massachusetts General Hospital TeleHealth, scheduled to launch this month, the program will offer patients access to telehealth visits in three clinical areas - Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Heart Failure and Neurological Movement Disorders.
-- Child and Adolescent Psychiatry: The pilot program will focus on
children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (Autism) and
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Parents and children
dealing with Autism and ADHD often find it difficult to find appropriate
resources locally or to secure after school appointments. The program
will allow participating physicians to see existing patients in their
own homes.
-- Heart Failure: The pilot program will give cardiologists the ability to
hold video visits with patients at home. The program will begin with
heart failure patients as they require close monitoring by their care
team for successful disease management.
-- Neurology: The pilot program will focus on follow-up visits for patients
with limited mobility, which makes travel difficult and home visits
ideal.
Massachusetts General Hospital launched its TeleStroke program in 2000, allowing Mass General stroke specialists to examine and diagnose patients at remote clinical locations throughout New England and recommend a plan of care to local physicians.
American Well's web-based Online Care platform is designed to extend the ability of physicians to better care for their patients from the patients' home or work using the web, smartphones or tablet devices. Physicians can review a patient's incoming clinical information, speak with and see the patient, prescribe medications if appropriate and suggest follow-up care. Online Care visits are designed to abide by HIPAA rules, protecting the patient's privacy and the security of their health information. At the conclusion of the six-month pilot, the program may be expanded beyond the three initial clinical areas.
"Massachusetts General Hospital is an iconic institution representing the very best of healthcare both nationally and worldwide. Mass General's decision to roll out telehealth as a channel for their renowned services fits the bill of innovation and modernization of healthcare delivery for which this organization is so well known," said Roy Schoenberg MD, MPH, CEO of American Well Systems. "We at American Well are proud to be part of this effort and will help Mass General and its leadership continue to shape clinical best practices and enlist technology as a way to bring care to their patients."

Blackmagic Design Announces Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera
New compact Super 16 digital cinema camera with 13 stops of dynamic range, allows shooting with a professional film look in a beautiful design that fits in your pocket!
LAS VEGAS, April 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- NAB 2013 -- Blackmagic Design today announced Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera, a beautifully designed, pocket sized digital cinema camera that includes powerful features such as Super 16mm sized 1080HD sensor, super wide 13 stops of dynamic range, built in SD card recorder for Apple ProRes, lossless compressed CinemaDNG RAW capture and active Micro Four Thirds lens mount, all in an attractive compact design for only US$995.
Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera will be demonstrated on the Blackmagic Design NAB 2013 booth at #SL218.
Since the original Blackmagic Cinema Camera was launched at NAB 2012, it has been celebrated by industry professionals for its amazing film look and accurate and cinematic color. The new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera has most of the features of its bigger brother, including its feature film look, but has been redesigned with a dramatically smaller size that is less than an inch thick and can be held easily in your hand.
This compact design allows the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera to be used in more situations where a larger camera would not be practical. It's so small that it can be used in situations in the field where a larger camera could be dangerous. The camera's film look even allows personal video to be shot with the style and creativity of a motion picture film!
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera features an industry standard Super 16 sensor size, so it's perfect when using Super 16 cine lenses via MFT adapters, as the shooting experience is the same as using the same lens on a Super 16 film camera. The 13 stops of dynamic range look of the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera is almost identical to shooting on a professional Super 16 film camera. The Micro Four Thirds lenses offer a wide range of low cost lenses with amazing image quality, and they are compatible with mount adapters such as PL mounts for large lens and professional motion picture film rigs.
One of the most important features of the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera is its super wide dynamic range of 13 stops, allowing feature film quality images. A common mistake in the television industry is the assumption that more resolution means higher quality. Most cameras, even ones with higher than HD resolution, can produce"video" looking images that suffer from highlight and black clipping that limits details. Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera's wide dynamic range eliminates this problem and provides film quality with dramatically more detail retained in black and whites in the image. Once the shoot is complete, DaVinci Resolve Lite color correction software can be used to adjust images and take advantage of this extra range in the images.
To eliminate the damage that low bit depth and high compression video storage creates, the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera includes a easy to use SD card recorder that allows the full sensor dynamic range to be recorded in professional ProRes 422 (HQ) format, as well as 12 bit Log RAW lossless compressed CinemaDNG format. These files can be read by high end video software as they are all open standard. In addition to the regular CinemaDNG RAW format, Blackmagic Design will also be implementing a QuickTime wrapper for the open standard CinemaDNG and companion codec, allowing the camera to record in a format that allows RAW editing in popular editing software.
Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera has been designed as the perfect companion to editing software such as Final Cut Pro X and Avid Media Composer. Unlike other cameras, which require the use of custom video file formats, the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera includes absolutely no custom video file formats, and every file type included is open standard.
The built in large LCD display makes focus easy, and allows playback of captured files. Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera includes a built in microphone, as well as external jack based mic/line level balanced audio connections. When reviewing recorded clips, audio can be played through the built in speaker and routed through the headphone port or micro HDMI output. The HDMI output includes all camera data such as timecode, transport control, shutter angle, color temperature setting and ASA information overlaid in attractive anti aliased fonts.
"This is an extremely exciting camera and its been amazing to work on. Our original Blackmagic Cinema Camera was small, but this new model is so much smaller than the original, we almost cannot believe it features very similar image quality," said Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design. "We think customers are going to really enjoy this new model and use it both personally and professionally. It's going to allow shooting in situations that could never have been achieved at this quality level previously. It's also going to be the camera that thousands of new up and coming cinematographers use as their first camera for their independent films. It's going to be exciting!"

Connexity Unveils Household and Individual Multiscreen Advertising
New Audience Discovery Tools Leverage Multigraph Technology
VENTURA, Calif., April 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Connexity, the integrated digital advertising company focused on Audience Discovery®, today announced the release of two new capabilities: Household Multiscreen and Individual Multiscreen. These new offerings provide the ability to target messaging across connected smart phone, tablet, laptop and desktop devices. Household Multiscreen works at the family level and is ideal for large purchases, such as a new car. Individual Multiscreen is ideal for re-messaging the same person across their various devices.
Connexity's multigraph technology provides a powerful blend of consumer signals to get the right ad in front of the right person at the right time. "When we combine behavioral lookalikes with device cohabitation the signal strength grows, leading to a much higher probability of reaching the same person," said Dean Banks, Connexity cofounder and CTO.
"We work closely with our customers to leverage their ad delivery, visitor and customer data," said Dave Gross, Connexity cofounder and CEO. "Streaming graph insertion of consumer engagement at the campaign level allows for device bridging without mobile device persistence. This means we don't need a cookie on smart phones or tablets, or any other identifier, to bridge a campaign to the other devices in the household."
The company is adding Household Multiscreen and Individual Multiscreen capabilities to its suite of Audience Discovery tools that include Preflight Audience Insights, Intelligent Prospecting, and Behavioral Lookalikes. Connexity's multiscreen advertising is provided on a per campaign basis with no technology integration. Complimentary multiscreen audience analysis is available to every interested client to establish the available signal before budget is put to work.
"These new capabilities are consistent with our fundamental mission of making advertising more relevant to the consumer while respecting data transparency, choice and accountability," said Gross. The Connexity multiscreen approach is fully privacy compliant and probabilistic meaning no device fingerprinting or personally identifiable information (PII) is used.
About Connexity

Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services Partners with LevelUp to Provide Mobile Payment App on College Campuses
Largest Mobile Payment Network in U.S. Makes Students' Lives Easier Dining on Campus.
RYE BROOK, N.Y., April 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services continues to bring the latest technological innovations to campus dining through a partnership with LevelUp, the leading U.S. mobile technology payment provider. Chartwells piloted LevelUp at Buffalo State in New York and Northeastern's Curry Student Center retail dining venue in Boston, making mealtime ordering quicker and more convenient.
College students traditionally have limited options of paying by cash, credit card or using a meal plan swipe card system to dine at retail venues on campuses. Thanks to LevelUp, students don't have to worry if they forget their cash, coins, or cards. They can rely on their smart device to pay for meals using a mobile payment application.
How LevelUp Works
LevelUp is an easy-to-use electronic payment option which allows students to pay for purchases at certain participating merchants or dining venues using a smart device. The LevelUp app is downloaded and students can register a personal credit card to generate a dedicated QR code. To use LevelUp's mobile payment service, the merchant or retail dining venue must have a scanning device on site. At check-out, the student pulls up the personal QR code on the smart device to initiate the scanning and the payment process. After this quick electronic transaction, a receipt is emailed to the student. LevelUp's website provides an interactive map showing different locations where its mobile payment is accepted on or off campus. Students and parents can also track how much money is being spent at mealtime.
Patti Girardi, Chartwells' Vice President of Marketing and Creative Services, added, "Chartwells chose to pilot the new payment system at Buffalo State and Northeastern because we thought it was a perfect fit for our partners. What's great for Chartwells is that LevelUp can provide analytics about meal purchases, site visits and return visits. This information can be used to gauge which promotions or limited time offers were popular among students and any sales fluctuations at retail locations based on student purchasing behaviors. LevelUp provides a greater opportunity for campus dining operations to focus on guest interaction as well as convenience."
Sara Garfinkle, President of United Students Government at Buffalo State said, "Chartwells is very 'hip' using LevelUp."

The new Telairity IRD is a complete solution for communications companies, especially those transitioning from SD to HD services, migrating from MPEG-2 to MPEG4 compression, and/or upgrading from 4:2:0 distribution to 4:2:2 contribution signals, or moving to DVB-T2.

A highly flexible IRD, the IRD-5600 features a front panel confidence monitor, frame synchronization capabilities (genlock), and both 4:2:2/4:2:0 and MPEG-2/ MPEG-4 (H.264/AVC) decoding. A built-in multiplexer allows users to create highly customized single program or multiple program transport streams (SPTS, MPTS) over IP. Other features include an integrated BISS/BISS-E descrambler, HD to SD down-conversion and aspect ratio adaptation, and two PCMCIA Common Interface card slots to support Conditional Access systems.
In additional to DVB tuners, including DVB-S/S2, DVB-C, and DVB-T/T2, the IRD-5600 also can be ordered with DTMB or ATSC RF turners. Other inputs include ASI, TS over IP, and optionally DS3/E3. Outputs include SDI, ASI, HDMI, analog audio, and analog video.
Control and monitoring options include the unit's front panel controls, its built-in browser-based Monitor Center facility, or standard SNMP-based network management systems.
"As communications companies throughout the developing world continue upgrading their telecommunications systems, equipment capable of increasingly sophisticated functioning is crucial to their operating efficiency and bottom line," said Silva. Welcome to Miami-Lango Brings Unique Visual Messaging to the Hands of Miami Smart Phone Users
iPhone & Android App Offers Miamians Location and Culture Specific Images; Lango Users Spark Conversation with Images Depicting Latest Miami Gossip
MIAMI, April 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Lango, the platform for self-expression and creative communication, today announced the launch of visual messaging icons created specifically for Miami area iPhone and Android users. Lango empowers texting with daily content based on the latest and greatest news, celebrity gossip, entertainment and social trends--and now users can share Miami "spark" and "flair" across their mobile and social networks.
Lango is the first company to summarize daily happenings, social communication and culture by transforming them into relevant textable images. The Lango Miami Pack includes images depicting Ocean Drive, beach babes and dudes, gators, sunglasses and "Welcome to Miami" lingo. Lango does not tell Miamians what to say, but instead provides a way for them to express emotion and humor in peer-to-peer texting and across social media networks.
"We're setting out to redefine what it means to send a text message and share images across social networks," said Jen Grenz, VP of Mobile, Lango. "Never before have Miamians had the opportunity to incorporate images depicting their own culture and daily happenings into their everyday communication and social sharing. This is the future of messaging."
In addition to relevant textable images, the Lango app supports 'meme' like social sharing, giving users the freedom to make social commentary on Facebook and Twitter. Its proprietary 'Essence Engine' continuously proposes customized images to personalize each message, eliminating the need for lengthy search within a large, unsorted collection of images. Images can be used to emphasize a feeling or expression, or summarize the idea of an entire text.
Now Miamians can "spark" up the word "Miami" in a text message by choosing the sunglasses and palm tree background to express it visually. And users who are looking to add some "flair" to their texting and social sharing can choose a background or insert their own photo and write a slogan to express exactly what they mean.
"The way you communicate on a regular basis is largely impacted by where you live," said Dr. Udi Graff, Lango's Chairman & CEO. "We are offering Miamians, and those who want to incorporate images of Miami into their daily text messages, the means to make their text and social conversations more expressive. Finally, Miami's unique culture can be depicted through images and integrated into daily communication in a creative way!"
The Miami pack is designed to supplement the release of Lango's daily content, and is available for purchase in its in-app virtual store. For simplicity, users can purchase Lango coins in the virtual store to create an endless library of images. Lango's virtual store offers a large variety of themed Premium Packs, including images depicting famed football players as part of the National Football League Player's Association (NFLPA) pack, Gangnam Style, SteamPunk, and many other event-driven exciting visuals and packs.
Lango--formally Zlango--is the provider of a unique mobile app for visual messaging with dynamic content. Located in the heart of San Francisco, Lango's lead investors are Benchmark and DAG. Lango operates as newspaper editorial--every day releasing fresh visuals that are dynamically updated via the app. Lango is redefining what it means to send a text-message and share images across social media channels. Its quirky and often humorous daily content provide users with the capability to create an endless flow of self-expression. Lango is available for both iPhone and Android.

CrowdOptic and LBMA Announce Research Partnership to Advance Focus-Aware Mobility
SAN FRANCISCO and NEW YORK, April 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- CrowdOptic, a maker of crowd-powered mobile applications for live events, and the Location Based Marketing Association (The LBMA) have joined forces to develop and promote new focus-aware mobile technology for fans at live events.
Part of the LBMA's mandate is to foster research, innovation and pilot projects that push the boundaries of place-based marketing. Through this initiative, we've partnered with several top tier global brands carefully selected from among LBMA's large network of marketing affiliates to introduce the new technology to consumers. The technology will be introduced in a series of test launches at major entertainment events throughout the summer, before making it widely to marketers in the fall.
Focus awareness is a ground-shifting new capability which combines traditional GPS-location awareness with data on where mobile users are aiming their smartphones. Focus-based technology enables new kinds of apps in which users aim their phones to engage with one another as they watch events simultaneously -- for example to connect, chat or vote on the shared subject of focus. Focus-awareness also allows marketers to chart the shifting momentum in crowds.
The partnership comes as demand grows among LBMA's network for mechanisms to enhance context-awareness in mobile. Marketers want to know how many phones are engaged with their apps as events are happening (heat), who those users are, where they are looking and how the crowd's engagement is dynamically changing moment to moment - all of which are capabilities unique to CrowdOptic's technology.
"Our vision of the future is new apps that dynamically adapt based on knowing what activities people in a crowd are watching and engaging in, as well as joining people with shared interests together, right there in the moment," said Asif Khan, Founder and President of LBMA.
Said Brent Iadarola, Global Research Director of Mobile & Wireless Communications at Frost & Sullivan: "Focus is an emerging mobile category that will play a significant role in the next generation of location services. In contrast to augmented reality, which combines location and mobile Internet search to provide information on landmarks in static environments, focus based services enable the tracking and tagging of objects (or individuals) in moving or dynamic environments. By enabling mobile users to point their phones at moving objects or people to access real-time information about their subject of interest, this area of technology in which CrowdOptic is a pioneer clearly presents some very unique and lucrative avenues for hyper-targeted marketing promotions, advertising, and mobile coupons."
CrowdOptic is currently in use around the world in apps which enable users to "aim their phone" to act or interact - whether to discuss, report or discover other people based on their shared focus. The company powers a range of applications which vary from finding friends in a crowd, to aiming a phone to vote, to aiming to alternate views of a live broadcast, to aiming to connect with athletes and celebrities at live events. The technology works both through an app and anytime without an app, by historically mining the standard metadata tags embedded in shared photo images. The mechanisms used to acquire context beyond location include continuous streams of GPS, compass and triangulation algorithms illuminating common points of focus between mobile users.
The LBMA will begin to introduce these projects which leverage the CrowdOptic platform for top global brands beginning in the summer of 2013.
The Location Based Marketing Association is an international group dedicated to fostering research, education and collaborative innovation at the intersection of people, places, and media. Our goal is simple: To educate, share best practices, establish guidelines for growth and to promote the services of member companies to brands and other content-related providers. The over 600 members of the LBMA include retailers, restaurant chains, agencies, advertisers, media buyers, software and services providers, and wireless companies.
CrowdOptic is a new crowd-powered "heat" signal - the next evolution of location-based services that recognizes the hottest crowd activity in real time as it occurs, and also after the fact, through powerful analytics. By tracking where smartphone cameras are located and where they are pointed, CrowdOptic can instantly filter mobile media and create new opportunities for eyewitness engagement. CrowdOptic identifies, tags and rebroadcasts the live event experience to the world, on mobile, social TV and second screens. CrowdOptic is used around the world to power a wide range of apps that let users aim their phones to connect, report news, find friends, alternate broadcasts, cast a vote and discover others who share their focus and interests. CrowdOptic is a privately-held, venture-backed company based in San Francisco.

Tektronix Demonstrates Enabling Quality Content from "Production to Distribution & Delivery" at NAB 2013
Tektronix Showcases Latest Advancements Addressing Broadcasting and Production Challenges
LAS VEGAS, April 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --Tektronix (http://www.tektronix.com), an industry-leading innovator of video quality monitoring solutions, is demonstrating how its latest solutions address the growing video content monitoring challenges that broadcasters face here at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) 2013, April 6 - 11, in booth N609.
As new technologies emerge and the way viewers receive and watch programming changes, content quality must be closely monitored in production, post production and during broadcasting. To help meet this demand, Tektronix is showcasing its solutions under the theme "Enabling Quality Content from Production to Distribution & Delivery," at this year's show. Highlights include the latest advances in rasterizers optimized for color grading, file-based video quality control and video network monitoring. NAB attendees can see demonstrations of the latest Tektronix products and meet with the company's technology and product experts throughout the show.
New WFM/WVR5250Industry's First Waveform Monitor with HDMI/HDCP Connection
The new WFM and WVR5250 are the only products in their respective classes to offer HDMI-HDCP inputs that enable broadcasters and video service providers (VSP) to directly monitor the quality of the video and audio output of set-top boxes (STB) and Blu-ray players for the first time. Before the WFM/WVR5250 and its High Definition Multimedia Interface - High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDMI-HDCP) inputs, there was no way for broadcasters and VSPs to monitor the video signal quality output from STBs, Blu-ray players and other consumer devices with HDMI outputs. This unique capability makes the WFM/WVR5250 the most comprehensive, compact and portable video and audio test tools available for acquisition, post production and compliance monitoring. Furthermore, the ability to decrypt the content through HDMI-HDCP is essential for VSPs to objectively measure their viewers' quality of experience (QoE) and compliance with broadcast and regulatory standards as seen by their customers through HDMI interconnects on large LCD or plasma displays.
New PQA600A Offers Industry's First Picture Quality Analysis on HDCP Encrypted Content
Tektronix' new PQA600A enables video equipment manufacturers and service providers to perform comprehensive, repeatable picture quality analysis and a direct comparison with competitors' units to verify video quality performance differences. The PQA600A is the industry's first picture quality analysis tool with an HDMI-HDCP interface. This enables engineers to directly evaluate the picture quality of the video stream outputs through an HDMI interface and video engineers can effectively model how equipment changes will impact picture quality through the network, across their headend facilities to the STB. In addition, having HDMI-HDCP support included in the PQA600A enables engineers to select a STB that would maximize the end viewer's quality of experience at home.
New architecture transforms Cerify into Industry's Most Reliable Content QC and Correction Solution Along With Workflow Optimization Benefits
Today's file-based workflows face tremendous pressures from the ever-growing volume, variety and complexity of content. In order to be able to handle such increasing content volumes, operators are deploying more and more resilient workflow solutions that are capable of operating 24x365. To address this need, Tektronix has developed a High Availability architecture into its Cerify Quality Control & Correction software solution. This new architecture enables the Cerify solution to operate 24x365 - ensuring continual readiness of QC services in the workflow even in the event of hardware failures.
In addition, Tektronix is responding to customer needs in reducing the amount of time content spends in the workflow - from the ingest point to the playout/archive/delivery point. Tektronix has teamed with Dolby to incorporate the proven audio loudness correction technology of its Dolby DP600® into Cerify, which reduces workflow time and complexity within the workflow and lowers VSPs' CapEx costs. With this new functionality, Cerify can ensure audio content compliance to regulatory standards such as the U.S. CALM Act's stipulated A/85 standards or the EBU R128 audio loudness standards by automatically correcting and remultiplexing the audio in the original file.
Another significant area of development in the industry has been the ubiquitous nature of Over The Top Video (OTT) delivery services. These services have gained significant QoE improvements by deploying Adaptive Bitrate (ABR) streaming technologies to overcome the hurdles of delivering video over the Internet's best-effort delivery characteristics. In order to serve customers deploying video content over such ABR/OTT delivery mechanisms, Tektronix has developed Apple HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) and Microsoft HTTP Smooth Streaming (HSS) test support within Cerify. With this new functionality, operators can ensure that their ABR transcoded content is ready for HLS and/or HSS delivery.
Sentry for Network-Wide Video Quality Monitoring to 10G
Only Tektronix' Sentry can comprehensively perform advanced quality of service (QoS) and quality of experience (QoE) monitoring on 3Gpbs of programming flowing through service providers' 10Gigabit networks. These unprecedented capabilities of Sentry enable VSPs to identify where service-affecting video and audio errors are occurring anywhere within their networks. This can dramatically speed up the time to diagnose and repair these issues, which limits the impact on viewers' QoE.
Sentry Edge II for QAM Access Monitoring
A key addition to the Sentry family is the new Sentry Edge II, which has advanced post QAM RF monitoring performance that extends monitoring to all QAM access points. Sentry Edge II detects RF modulation and Transport Stream errors at the hub, headend or wherever QAM is used. VSPs now have access to the information needed to proactively monitor RF, before issues affect subscribers. Comprehensive and industry-leading high-quality RF measurements make it easier and faster to pinpoint issues. High quality MER measurements up to 41dB allow providers to detect signal quality degradation sooner, so they can take action before this issue impacts the subscriber viewing experience. Sentry Edge II offers more tuners per unit than competing products, lowering the cost of edge monitoring. Providers can choose from two high-density models--4 or 8 tuners--both designed to minimize rack space and power costs.
New SPG8000 Addresses Broadcasters Reference Generator Requirements
The synchronization requirements of modern production, post production and broadcast facilities have grown as they have to handle multiple video formats, with multi-channel audio and ancillary data and be accomplished with the highest reliability possible. The new SPG8000 Master Sync/Master Clock Reference Generator represents a new class of reference generator that combines Tektronix' industry-leading sync pulse generator (SPG) and master clock reference generator capabilities. The fully-featured SPG8000 comes standard with individually timeable black burst (with VITC support) and HDTV tri-level sync outputs, linear time code (LTC) outputs and network time protocol (NTP) server support - all of the timing and synchronizing signals required in a video broadcast or production facility.
The SPG8000 incorporates several key features, including Tektronix' Stay Genlock® capability, which provides a unique genlock mode that minimizes disruption to devices synchronized to the SPG8000 reference signals and eliminates synchronization shock. Complete with hot-swappable redundant power supplies, remote monitoring and an easy to navigate Web-based interface, the SPG8000 provides critical timing and synchronization signals for modern broadcast, production (including mobile trucks and OB vans) and post-production facilities by offering sync signals, test signals and ANC data generation capabilities.

LANDesk Introduces Management Intelligence for Microsoft System Center
New Solution Aims To Improve Decision Making, Reduce Compliance Risks, Optimize Expenses and Increase End-User Productivity
LAS VEGAS, April 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- (Microsoft Management Summit) --LANDesk Software, a global leader in endpoint, systems lifecycle and IT service management, today announced its latest offering aimed at helping IT departments maximize user productivity and simplify IT operations. The offering, Management Intelligence for Microsoft System Center, uniquely consolidates the functionality of several add-on products into a single decision-making solution. Management Intelligence provides the functionality to manage software licenses, along with hardware lifecycles, and the ability to aggregate and analyze manufacturer, vendor and reseller data in an effort to support process and decision making.
"It would traditionally take five to six point products to provide all the capabilities inherent in Management Intelligence," said Brian Milovac, Field and Channel Enablement Manager, LANDesk Software. "With this all-encompassing asset management solution, we are enabling Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) customers to fully understand and leverage all of the hardware and software assets they already own, improving inventory, auditing and reporting processes and in turn, the bottom line."
While the assets employed across an entire organization are already difficult to track, this process is compounded by the fact that various manufacturers, vendors and resellers label and name software and hardware assets differently. This disparate information not only creates major issues when IT managers who are working to determine how many of a particular asset or license they currently have, but it also impedes productivity. Management Intelligence introduces Cloud Aggregators that connect you with vendor, manufacturer and reseller data, ensuring you have a complete view of all software and IT assets and related data. Unlike other solutions, Management Intelligence from LANDesk is the only solution that brings all of the reseller data together in one place. With Management Intelligence IT managers know everything about the software and hardware they have purchased, are able to import vendor and warranty data automatically at the time of purchase and perform data analytics to normalize, standardize and calculate effective software license quantities and entitlements.
After data from across various vendors is aggregated, it can then be analyzed within Management Intelligence. IT managers can view or share their data via the SmartVue executive app, scheduling reports through an easily accessible portal and creating and publishing specific reports custom tailored for various stakeholders.
Many organizations need better visibility into software and asset lifecycles and they get that with Management Intelligence. IT is given the confidence they need to view all of their assets including areas where the organization might be over purchasing and identify rogue purchases. By understanding their level of software compliance and managing all software licenses, including SaaS and VDI software implementations, they can reduce cost by reclaiming unused licenses and reduce the risks associated with software management.
In addition to tracking software assets and licenses, IT managers must also have a clear picture of all hardware within the corporate network at any given time, with Management Intelligence they can track hardware assets like printer, routers, switches and other SNMP devices. With Management Intelligence, IT managers can know how many assets they have, how they are performing, their location and even how they are being used. This is accomplished by automatically importing warranty management information at time of purchase, barcode scanning, knowing when printers need to be maintained or when ink or toner is low and determining the location of map printers or other assets - all features enabled by Management Intelligence.
Mr. Milovac summed up the value of Management Intelligence for Microsoft System Center by saying, "You paid for all your software and hardware assets, now get the data to truly own those assets and maximize how you use them."
LANDesk will be demonstrating Management Intelligence in booth #609 at the Microsoft Management Summit in Las Vegas this week. For more information, visit http://www.2013mms.com/sponsors#Bronze.

Report Forecasts Total Global Crowdfunding to Reach $5.1 Billion in 2013, with North America Remaining the Largest Market
LOS ANGELES, April 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Crowdfunding is accelerating at an unprecedented rate and impacting government policy, informing enterprise innovation, and changing the role of financial institutions around the world. Today, massolution®, a research firm specializing in the crowdsourcing and crowdfunding industries, released its annual 2013CF - Crowdfunding Industry Report. After collecting data from 308 active crowdfunding platforms (CFPs) worldwide and undertaking significant further research, the results reveal that CFPs raised $2.7 billion in 2012 - an 81% increase over 2011 - and successfully funded more than one million campaigns. North America and Europe account for over 95% of the total market.
"Consistent with our 2012 forecast, total crowdfunding volume nearly doubled last year, and with regulatory bodies continuing to pave the way, we expect global crowdfunding volumes to exceed $5 billion in 2013," said CEO of massolution, Carl Esposti. "While lending-, donation-, and reward-based crowdfunding have thus far been leading this global financial revolution, equity-based crowdfunding is about to take center stage in the U.S. The JOBS Act, which will allow non-accredited investors to make investments in exchange for equity, is expected to go into effect by the end of 2013."
Growth Rates By Region
Although crowdfunding offers a growing number of countries opportunities to access funds, North America and Europe raised much more capital than platforms in other regions.
-- North America: crowdfunding volumes grew 105% to $1.6 billion
-- Europe: crowdfunding volumes grew 65% to $945 million
-- In total, all other markets grew close to 125%
Growth Rates By Models
The growth in funding volumes was primarily driven by lending- and donation-based crowdfunding, and by SME adoption of reward-based crowdfunding. The growth in lending volumes mainly stemmed from crowdfunded micro-loans and community-driven loans to local SMEs.
-- Donation- and Reward-based crowdfunding grew 85% to $1.4 billion
-- Lending-based crowdfunding grew 111% to $1.2 billion
-- Equity-based crowdfunding grew 30% to $116 million
Most Active Categories
Crowdfunding first gained popularity as a way to fund creative, philanthropic, and social endeavors. This popularity prevails, but crowdfunding's application for entrepreneurial ventures has also gained traction. Driven by models that offer financial return, the 'Business/Entrepreneurship' and 'Energy/Environment' categories are the next highest performing categories.
-- Social Causes are most active, driving close to 30% of all crowdfunding
activity
-- Business & Entrepreneurship (16.9%), and the two major Art Categories
follow: Films & Performing Arts (11.9%) and Music & Recording Arts
(7.5%)
-- Energy & Environment (5.9%) is the emerging category among the five most
active
"Obtaining reliable and analyzable data on all aspects regarding new constituents- and market-related activity will be critical to the creation of the new crowdfunding industry," said EGS Managing Partner, Douglas Ellenoff. "This includes more research on funding platforms, deals, investors, amounts being raised, actually raised, industries, and geographies. For the last several years, massolution has committed itself to developing these necessary capabilities, relationships and infrastructure to be the best positioned and most reliable market leader for this purpose."
