BelAir Networks New Small Cell Base Station Combines LTE and Wi-Fi to Address Ongoing Mobile Data Demand
BelAir100LP LTE Picocell delivers high throughput, multiple deployment options -- compact, cost-effective solution improves user experience, mobile network profitability
ORLANDO, Fla., March 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- CTIA Wireless 2011 -- As mobile operators worldwide plan and deploy LTE networks to support relentless growth in mobile data demand, a new class of small cell base station, known as outdoor metropolitan picocell, is gaining traction. According to industry research firm, In-Stat, the outdoor metropolitan picocell market is forecast to top $5 Billion in 2014. In 2014, more than two billion Wi-Fi chipsets will ship, according to IHS iSuppli, reflecting Wi-Fi's continued popularity in smartphones and tablets, the devices driving mobile data and video consumption. Against this backdrop of increasing mobile data demand, LTE small cell adoption and Wi-Fi enabled device growth, BelAir Networks today announced the new BelAir100LP LTE Picocell, a compact outdoor small cell base station that combines LTE and 802.11n Wi-Fi and can be installed and activated within 15 minutes.
"In live network trials with Tier One operators, we've proven that combining licensed and unlicensed wireless technologies in a small cell base station is a very effective way to handle growing mobile data traffic," said Bernard Herscovich, President and CEO, BelAir Networks. "The BelAir100LP features a modular platform to accommodate operators' LTE preferences and leverages patented innovations that address the installation challenges - including backhaul, power and mounting - that have impeded widespread picocell adoption to date."
BelAir Networks has been deploying carrier Wi-Fi solutions and licensed + unlicensed products to offload data traffic from congested mobile networks for years. Leveraging this expertise, the BelAir100LP LTE Picocell enables mobile carriers to quickly and cost-effectively build large-scale small cell networks for future proof capacity and coverage, with features that include:
-- Multiple mounting options - pole and wall-mount or patented strand mount
via aerial, pedestal, cabinet or vault hybrid fiber coax (HFC)
infrastructure
-- Backhaul flexibility - patented high-performance switched mesh, fiber,
Ethernet or HFC
-- Licensed and unlicensed access radios - LTE + dual 802.11n Wi-Fi radios
with chip-based beamforming
-- Internal array beam steering antennas working in conjunction with
chip-based beamforming to deliver improved throughput at a greater
distance
-- Powering via AC, DC or cable plant
-- Virtual AP capabilities enabling multiple operators to share common
wireless network infrastructure while offering a customized user
experience through direct integration with their specific back end
systems (AAA, Policy Management) on a per SSID basis
The BelAir100LP is designed to provide a high capacity underlay or coverage extension to tower and rooftop-based LTE macrocell deployments. In traditional macrocell configurations, LTE promises to deliver 2-4X the capacity of current 3G networks, but with leading operators witnessing mobile data growth of 7 - 30X over the last 3 years, LTE macrocells alone will provide only temporary relief from data congestion. So operators are leveraging both small cell architectures and unlicensed spectrum to augment capacity in areas of high use concentration.
BelAir100LP represents an evolution of the award-winning BelAir100SP Strand Picocell incorporating HSPA or CDMA radios along with 802.11n Wi-Fi, and is currently in live network trials with major operators. AWS spectrum band is also supported on BelAir Networks indoor and outdoor APs and base stations.
BelAir Networks comprehensive product and service portfolio includes:
-- Outdoor picocells combining 3G/4G base stations with dual 802.11n Wi-Fi
radios
-- Indoor and outdoor 802.11n APs supporting Wi-Fi access and backhaul at
both 2.4 and 5 GHz
-- BelAirOS software enabling back office integration with carriers'
existing systems (policy management, AAA, edge routers) and supporting
network wide mobility
-- BelView network management supporting up to 50,000 base stations in one
network on a scalable client-server-data collector architecture with
web-based monitoring
-- Carrier business intelligence tools including Synthetic Client and
Smartphone Dashboard
-- Network planning, deployment, integration and support services
BelAir Networks will be at booth #2604 at CTIA Wireless 2011, Orange County Convention Center, Orlando Florida, March 22-24, 2011.

YuppTV Delivers First Turnkey OTT Live TV and VOD Service for 4 Screens
Internet-based Video Distribution and Monetization Service Delivers Live TV and VOD Anywhere in the World
ORLANDO, Fla., March 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- ShowStoppers CTIA -- Global Takeoff Inc., a leading global provider of converged digital entertainment and advertising solutions, today announced the YuppTV platform-as-a-service (PaaS) solution for content owners, broadcasters, telecom and mobile operators. YuppTV is a converged over-the-top (OTT) service that delivers live TV and video-on-demand over four screens - TVs, PCs, smartphones and internet tablets. For the first time, video content providers and operators have access to a turnkey, internet-based solution for distributing and monetizing live TV and on-demand video services - anywhere in the world.
"Today there is a lot of TV content that lacks wide cable distribution - such as local news and sports events, which are limited to regional areas and up-and-coming TV channels that either have little or sporadic distribution," said Uday Reddy, founder and CEO of Global Takeoff. "But content providers would like to expand the reach of these programs by leveraging internet technologies. At the same time, internet-savvy consumers are starting to expect the ability to have any TV and video content delivered to any internet-enabled screen - anywhere in the world. This trend has content providers and operators scrambling to find new internet-based solutions to distribute and monetize video globally. YuppTV offers a converged global video experience for content providers, operators and consumers alike."
The YuppTV platform enables broadcasters, telecom and mobile operators to deliver the same content over TVs, PCs, smartphones and other internet-enabled devices, without investing in multiple technologies. YuppTV is based on a unique turnkey platform-as-a-service model, which removes the video distribution capital and monetization responsibilities from content owners, content aggregators and operators.
"YuppTV can open up new markets," explained Reddy. "Many local TV stations want to extend the reach of their news, sports and entertainment content beyond regional boundaries and keep their audience informed and entertained while away from home. Telecom operators can use YuppTV to deliver live TV in regional areas where the copper 'last mile' is unable to deliver service. Movie producers who would like to release films online to avoid piracy can also benefit from distributing their content on YuppTV. YuppTV is a low-risk, high-value solution for tapping into these emerging markets."
The YuppTV PaaS is an end-to-end content delivery platform for managing live and network-based video-on-demand services. The platform includes the following capabilities:
-- Live TV and on-demand video delivery up to 1 billion internet-enabled
devices, including: desktop and laptop PCs (Windows, Macintosh),
internet set top boxes (Roku, Boxee), smartphones (iPhone, Android,
Blackberry, Symbian, Windows), internet-enabled tablets (iPad/Android),
gaming consoles through an application (XBOX, PS3, Wii) , iPod/iPod
Touch and ConnectedTV (Samsung)
-- Integrated billing and CRM system that produces instant content
monetization through advertising and subscriptions
-- Encoding transcoding, streaming and integration with internet-enabled
devices
-- Online daily reporting system producing customer profiles and subscriber
management reports
-- Adaptive bit-rate streaming adjusts to the bandwidth of the user,
providing a buffer free experience

million live streams simultaneously

Verizon Wireless Enhances 3G Broadband Data Network in Prince William County, Virginia
LAUREL, Md., March 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --In acontinuing effort to provide the best wireless service for local residents in Prince William County, Virginia, Verizon Wireless has completed work that increases the 3G data handling capacity in the southeastern corner of the county.
Expanded 3G data capacity in Prince William County lets more customers using tablets, laptops or smartphones to instantly download the latest apps, music, videos or 3D games; rapidly browse the Web to keep up with news, sports, stock quotes; send and receive emails in real-time as well as open and download attachments; enjoy turn-by-turn navigation; and more.
The increased coverage is part of the company's aggressive multi-billion dollar network investment each year to stay ahead of the growing demand for Verizon Wireless' voice and data services. Last year alone, the company spent $347 million on regional network improvements, bringing total network investment in the region since 2000 to more than $2.6 billion.
"More and more people rely on smartphones and 3G apps to manage their busy lives and stay connected at home or on-the-go," said Mike Maiorana, Verizon Wireless regional president. "We're committed to continuously improving our network to provide our customers with the 3G advantage, coverage and speed they want and need."
Verizon Wireless has the nation's largest and most reliable 3G broadband network which makes advanced services like turn-by-turn navigation, over-the-air downloads of the latest applications, text/picture messaging, video and music downloads, web browsing and 3D gaming possible. Mobile Broadband customers in enhanced broadband wireless coverage areas can expect average download speeds of 600 kilobits per second (kbps) to 1.4 megabits and average upload speeds of 500-800 kbps. Customer demand for these advanced services continues to grow.
The company's "nation's most reliable wireless network" reputation is based on network studies performed by real-life test men and test women throughout the country. Using sophisticated testing equipment, Verizon Wireless' local team of network technicians conducted 66,552 voice call attempts and 373,899 data tests on the Verizon Wireless network and the networks of major competitors. Unmarked test vehicles are equipped with computers that automatically conduct voice calls and data tests.* Results from this internal network quality assurance test program confirm that Verizon Wireless is the 3G network quality leader in the Virginia, Maryland and DC region.
In addition to enhancing its 3G network, Verizon Wireless has deployed its 4G LTE Network in 38 major metropolitan areas and 60 commercial airports coast to coast covering one-third of all Americans. During 2011, the company will continue to expand its 4G footprint to include more than 175 markets by year-end. Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE wireless network is the fastest and most advanced 4G network in America and offers speeds up to 10 times faster than the current 3G network.

The Mortgage Loan Boy, Following the Steps of the Million Dollar Home Page
A Spanish software engineer develops a curious website to pay his mortgage loan and denounce the precarious situation of the housing in Spain.
BILBAO, Spain, March 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- This website (themortgageloanboy.com) aims to create a competition between the companies of the world, bidding to put a banner ad on this site. The cost of the banners will be incremental, increasing in euro 1 for each banner that is purchased on the website. Thus, the first banner will cost euro 1, the second euro 2, the third euro 3 and so on.
The banner ads will be shown using geo-positional products so they would be seen exactly positioned in their region of origin. This makes the ad available for all the potential customers of the same region and country of the company.
The idea is really simple; companies can hire one or more ads in the first-order administrative units belonging to their country of origin. In each unit can only be a banner associated, so that the speed with which the companies engage the banner will be crucial to the success of recruitment advertising. The denouncing of the housing situation in Spain and the curious way to show all the banner ads all around the world makes this website a unique place to hire a banner and to visit.
Tired of paying his mortgage loan, the software engineer created this site with the intention of trying to raise funds to pay his mortgage loan and to denounce the precarious situation of the housing in Spain.
This kind of website remembers the success of other great website, milliondollarhomepage.com, which was created in 2005 by Alex Tew, who made more than a million dollars by selling pixels. (http://www.milliondollarhomepage.com)
Themortgageloanboy.com allows you to hire banners in a very curious way, accepts PayPal Payment, and 5% of the profits will be donated to UNICEF to their education campaigns in the Third World.
About The Mortgage Loan Boy: "It proves that anyone, any idea, any project, as simple as they are, can succeed if they invest the required illusion and time," says Fran Casado, "By hiring an ad in my website you can obtain a piece of internet history and of course the personal satisfaction of helping me to pay my mortgage loan."

Deloitte Identifies the 10 Most Disruptive and Emerging Technologies for CIOs to Consider Over the Next 18 Months
NEW YORK, March 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --Deloitte today issued a new report identifying 10 disruptive and emerging technologies that are expected to play a crucial role in how businesses will operate globally over the next 18 months.
"With 2011 well underway, CIOs should be evaluating the progress made on their New Year's resolutions and taking full advantage of technologies that have the ability to dramatically improve and advance their business operations and decision-making," said Mark White, principal, Deloitte Consulting LLP and a co-author of the report. "We have evaluated, industry-wide, what is working and what is not when it comes to IT and have identified 10 technologies that are likely to transform the enterprise over the next 18 months."
Deloitte's report, "Tech Trends 2011: The Natural Convergence of Business and IT," groups the technologies into two categories: "(Re)emerging Enablers," which is described as five technologies that many CIOs have spent time, thought and resources on in the past, and "Disruptive Deployments," five additional technologies that showcase new business models and transformative ways to operate. The 10 technologies are:
(Re)Emerging Enablers:
-- Almost Enterprise Applications: Quick and agile solutions like the
cloud and Software- and Platform-as-a-Service (SaaS, PaaS) appeal to the
business, but are they "enterprise enough" for IT? Almost enterprise
applications are being eagerly embraced by many business leaders, and
CIOs should get in front of this democratization and self-service trend.
-- CIOs as Revolutionaries: With the cloud, social computing and mobility
shaking up business models and transforming how business is done, the
technology agenda should be considered as tantamount to the business
agenda--and CIOs are the executives positioned to pull them into
alignment.
-- Cyber Intelligence: While it still may be necessary to build a rapid
detect-and-respond cyber security function, organizations should
consider going beyond adding tools to learn and adapt, protect against
upstream threats, and connect the internal and external dots to assess
probable risks, and in the process move from reactive to proactive.
-- End of Death of ERP: ERP can be an enabler of tomorrow's innovations,
not a fading footnote of yesterday's legacy. Organizations are still
able to tap ERP applications to transform processes with reduced risk --
at a lower cost and at a quicker pace.
-- Visualization: Visualization deserves a fresh look given the evolution
of the underlying tools and the rich potential represented by
unstructured data. It can provide a new way to tap into millions of
internal emails, instant messages and documents, as well as trillions of
social media objects, Twitter tweets, text messages, blogs and other
content of potential concern or opportunity for the enterprise.
Disruptive Deployments:
-- Applied Mobility: New mobile solutions are being designed to serve the
full spectrum of transactional, analytical and social computing
capabilities, and present the opportunity for organizations to define
real and lasting value in applied mobility solutions and business
enablement. This could be the year that businesses will truly begin
harnessing these features into rich, yet simple and intuitive
applications to solve real business problems.
-- Capability Clouds: Capability clouds have the potential to move beyond
the building blocks of capacity clouds to deliver finished services that
can address business objectives and enterprise goals. CIOs should be
prepared to answer how they leverage the ecosystem of capabilities,
services and value networks delivered by the cloud.
-- Real Analytics: As the economy resets, analytics can offer improved
visibility to help companies drive operational efficiencies. Analytics
can also offer an opportunity for growth by helping companies in their
efforts to address heart-of-the-business questions that can guide
decisions, yield new insights and help predict what's next.
-- Social Computing: As more of our personal and professional lives are
transacted via technology, rich trails of preferences, opinions and
behaviors are being created. Beyond the immediate benefits of empowering
stake-holders, this "digital exhaust" can be mined, providing a rich
source of insight on market positioning.
-- User Engagement: The proliferation of consumer and Internet technologies
has raised expectations for IT tools at work, and can empower employees
to find new insights and improve how business occurs. Enterprises
should seek to learn and understand how to turn newly-connected
consumers into new revenue channels and identify ways they can empower
employees to better connect dots and improve efficiency and
effectiveness.
"It's evident that the next 18 months will be pivotal for widespread adoption of technologies such as cloud, social computing, analytics and mobile technologies," said Bill Briggs, director, Deloitte Consulting LLP and co-author of the report. "Whether they are re-emerging enablers that are already somewhat at play at large among enterprises or disruptive deployments that offer new, transformative ways for organizations to operate, CIOs should keep ahead of these trends to help generate top returns not just of IT, but the business of the business."

Is a Web-based Money Management Firm Right for You?
Delivery of financial services over the internet continues to grow. Although financial advice has traditionally been delivered at a local advisor's office, internet-based financial advisory firms offer a compelling alternative.
SAN FRANCISCO, March 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The internet has proven a brilliant enabler for delivering high-quality, low-cost services. Consumer examples include DVD rental firm Netflix and Apple's iTunes music platform. In financial services, we have seen individuals flock to online trading offered by Charles Schwab and E*Trade, not to mention the proliferation of internet banking.
Yet the business of financial advice remains largely delivered in-person. With people turning to the web for all types of services, it is no surprise the number of internet-based investment management firms continues to grow.
These web-based financial advisors can provide sound management of your personal investments and individual retirement accounts (IRA), generally for a fee below what a typical advisor charges. In addition, you get the convenience of managing your investments online.
Internet investment advisors may appeal primarily to younger, web-savvy investors with $500,000 or less to invest. According to John Furey, principal at Advisor Growth Strategies LLC, "Many sophisticated advisors have account minimums of $500,000 or more, often making it difficult for everyday investors to get good, conflict-free advice."
A quick comparison of three firms provides a glimpse of what is currently available.

Firms listed above all allow clients to maintain accounts at third-party custodians. Custodians hold client assets, execute trades, and provide account statements.
Verizon Wireless to Open Application Innovation Center in San Francisco This Fall
AIC Will Bring Together Developers, Entrepreneurs, Engineers and Others to Collaborate on Next Generation of Mobile Apps
BASKING RIDGE, N.J., and SAN FRANCISCO, March 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Plans are underway for the Verizon Wireless Application Innovation Center (AIC), which is scheduled to open in San Francisco later this year, the company said today. The Center will be a place for developers, network engineers, entrepreneurs and others to work together on innovative applications that take advantage of Verizon Wireless' leading 3G and 4G LTE mobile networks.
First revealed at the Verizon Developer Community (VDC) Conference, the San Francisco facility will be connected to Verizon LTE Innovation Center, located in Waltham, Mass., in order to optimize synergies between development activities at each location.
The AIC is taking shape in the heart of downtown San Francisco, conveniently located near Silicon Valley and a growing nexus of developers in the city itself. Construction of the Center, located on Spear Street, began last month, and when complete the space will include several collaboration labs, private development labs, and offer access to Verizon Wireless equipment and services not available elsewhere. Participants will be able to interact with Verizon Wireless experts in application development, software development, network APIs, network performance and business development, all together in one place.
"The goal of the AIC is to engage developers, pro-actively share Verizon Wireless' technical and marketing experience and expertise, and ultimately bring truly innovative applications and services to all of Verizon's customers," said Brian Higgins, executive director of Ecosystem Development at Verizon Wireless. "As the mobile ecosystem grows, the AIC aims to play an important role in bringing in new developers and nurturing new ideas."
Companies large and small will be invited to spend time at the AIC to create, optimize and polish their ideas and turn them into viable applications for wireless customers. The collaborative approach is designed to facilitate connections between developers and a wide range of Verizon Wireless partners.
The LTE Innovation Center in Massachusetts has spurred development for products, services and solutions ranging from home monitoring and control, health care, visual collaboration, gaming and more since it opened its doors in 2009. A similar collaborative model will be applied to the application space.
Over the next few months, Verizon Wireless, together with its VDC Advisory Board, will continue to work with developers to provide details and explore different projects. Interested developers should visit http://developer.verizon.com/aic for more information, or follow http://www.twitter.com/vzdevelopers for updates on the Centers and the company's work with developers.

Introducing GPS Video - ICAP Ocean Tomo to Auction Techniques for Embedding Positional Data Into Video Signals for Display on Handheld Devices
CHICAGO, March 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Developed by Koplar Interactive Systems International LLC and represented by ICAP Ocean Tomo, this patent portfolio discloses a system for combining positional data and video. The portfolio will be available at ICAP Ocean Tomo's upcoming Spring 2011 Live IP Auction March 31st in New York City.
-- A system for combining positional data and video. With this invention,
positional data from navigation systems and other auxiliary sources can
be incorporated into video signals and subsequently displayed on a video
camera.
-- The technology links positional data with video signals in a single
video recording.
-- To achieve this level of synchronization, the system uses a mobile
object associated with both the video camera and positional data
receiver.
-- Information about the location of the mobile object (e.g., vehicles,
video cameras, handheld devices, trains, tanks, watercrafts, airplanes,
etc.) is sent from satellites to the positional data device.
-- The video camera creates a video signal, which it sends to an encoder.
Auxiliary sources can be used in the same way, obtaining data about the
mobile object and sending it to the encoder.
-- The encoder codes the data in the video signal, which is stored on the
video camera.
-- The decoder receives all the data from the video signal and the system
displays the data from the positional data receiver (along with the
auxiliary source if it is used) in the form of a video, which can be
stored and played back.
Market Potential
This lot should be of interest to manufacturers of cameras, mobile phones, navigation systems, and other entities looking to incorporate this technology into their products.
-- By 2014, the number of mobile handsets with GPS receivers will reach 960
million.(1) Worldwide, the mobile location technologies market is
expected to reach $70 billion by 2013.
-- Moreover, the global market for services specifically related to GPS
should see a significant increase in revenues as well, reaching $10
billion by 2013.(2)
-- An enormous variety of consumer electronic industries can benefit from
this invention. Analysts have seen tremendous growth in the market for
GPS-related products, as both personal and commercial users are
demanding more accurate navigation and timing capabilities in devices.
GPS receivers are now standard features in cars, phones, workout
watches, and other handheld devices.
-- Industries involving complex logistical operations rely on GPS systems
as well. For example, real-time knowledge of positional data is crucial
for the operations in agriculture, commercial airlines, federal
agencies, and emergency responders.(3)

United States Distance Learning Association Statement on AT&T and T-Mobile Transaction
BOSTON, March 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Yesterday, AT&T Inc. and Deutsche Telekom announced AT&T will be purchasing T-Mobile USA for $39 billion, broken down into $25 billion in cash and $14 billion in stock. Under the agreement, Deutsche Telekom will receive approximately 8% ownership of AT&T and will have one of its representatives join the AT&T Board of Directors. This is a transaction with fair price and reasonable non-monetary terms.
Perhaps most importantly, AT&T will be able to commit to an expanded 4G LTE deployment, covering 95% of the U.S. population, which tops earlier projected capabilities of 80%. The optimization available over 4G LTE networks allows voice, data, and wireless broadband to travel at speeds up to 10x faster than traditional networks, which is crucial to maximize distance learning capabilities.
This transaction will also ensure an a additional 46.5 million Americans and 1.2 million square miles are receiving access to wireless broadband technologies, connecting a larger population of potential distance learners to the benefits e-learning affords, from increased access to a diverse set of schools, textbooks, and programs to other connected students, all from the comfort and convenience of their mobile phone.
This transaction will enable more Americans to realize the benefits of distance learning through wireless devices, mobile apps, and other related educational tools and promises to further the cause of the USDLA and help us to accomplish our mission.

New Web Tool Lets Families Decide What They Pay for Any College
As millions receive financial aid award letters, SimpleTuition's free service gives families control over how they pay for ANY college
BOSTON, March 21, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- SimpleTuition, Inc., the leading online destination for services that help families save on college costs, today announced the release of a service that allows the customization of financial aid awards from any college. The new tool, accessible at SimpleTuition.com, is a quick, easy and free way for students and parents to take real control of college costs.
"One of the most exciting things about this new tool is that it reveals - upfront - an estimated total monthly payment for all borrowing for both the student and parent after graduation," said Kevin Walker, SimpleTuition's co-founder and CEO. "That monthly payment number is the ultimate determinant of what the family views as 'affordable'.
"Americans make big purchase decisions - such as for homes or cars - on the basis of what the monthly payment will be," continued Walker. "For most families, college is the second biggest investment after their home, but until now they haven't been able to grasp - in advance - what the resulting monthly payment will be after graduation."
SimpleTuition's new tool goes even further and lets the family adjust their financial aid award in real time to find a monthly payment that works for them. Most families don't realize that the financial aid award they receive is not set in stone. Families actually have the power to manipulate many aspects of how they pay for college - they just never had the tools to do so easily.
SimpleTuition's new college cost adjuster tool lets families:
-- Adjust sources of college funds (such as work-study, cash, scholarships,
loans, etc) to see in real time how each change will impact the
student's and family's finances
-- See the total monthly loan payments expected after graduation for both
student and parents from all loans covering the multiple years of
college
-- View an estimate of the salary the student will need to make after
graduation to support the expected payments for all student loans
-- Strike the right balance of family vs. student borrowing using a
convenient slider to move borrowing responsibility back-and-forth
between student and family
-- Determine which schools are affordable by comparing the family's
customized financial aid awards from up to three schools simultaneously
-- Download detailed instructions on how to obtain their customized
financial aid award from their school
"Our aim is to bring transparency to college costs," SimpleTuition's CEO said. "We want to eliminate the sticker shock too many students experience when they graduate and only then realize what their monthly student loan payments will be."
About SimpleTuition, Inc.
Since its launch in 2006, SimpleTuition has helped more than 10 million families afford higher education. SimpleTuition.com features tips, advice, interactive tools and deals that ensure students plan better for college costs, pay less for college-related expenses, and be smarter about how they manage and pay back their student loans.
