Nokia Says Goodbye To Qt

This is a poor move for everyone. Nokia is now pushing Windows Phone 7 and is throwing out Qt in the process. Qt is the development platform for Symbian and even KDE on Linux. Qt is portable and works with nearly every operating system. Nokia's Microsoftish CEO struck the deal with devil and now Qt is being thrown out with the bathwater. Symbian is also killed off. Meego? Dead as well. This will be bad for Nokia.

New Interface Standard from STMicroelectronics Enables Seamless Delivery of Full High-Definition Audio and Video Between Smart Mobile Devices and TVs

Developed in close cooperation with ST-Ericsson, new proposed 'Mobility DisplayPort' standard connects the mobile lifestyle to the living room

GENEVA, Feb. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), one of the world's leading semiconductor companies, in close cooperation with ST-Ericsson, a world leader in wireless platforms and semiconductors, today announced the 'Mobility DisplayPort' (MYDP) interface standard. MYDP is 100% compatible with the DisplayPort digital-protocol standard and enables 1080p/60Hz audio and video (A/V) streaming between smart mobile devices and full-high-definition (1080p) TVs and monitors via the standard connector found in the majority of mobile consumer products such as tablets, smart phones and portable gaming consoles. The MYDP standard also offers concurrent A/V streaming and battery charging of the mobile device via the same standard connector.

STMicroelectronics has already submitted the proposal for the new MYDP interface standard to VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association) with the aim for it to become the de facto standard for A/V output from all portable electronic devices. MYDP is based on DisplayPort, which is an industry-proven technology and an open and royalty-free VESA digital-display interface standard. DisplayPort is expected to become a major high-definition video interface in the coming years, following the recent declaration of several major consumer electronics manufacturers and computer makers to drop support for the VGA/DVI standard by 2015.

Unlike DisplayPort, however, MYDP is designed specifically for mobile devices and equipment, where space is extremely limited. It demands the use of only one connector for data exchange, audio/video output and connecting to other A/V accessories. MYDP therefore maintains the minimum 'connection footprint' of the mobile device, removing the need for additional connectors and thereby reducing bill-of-materials costs to deliver uncompressed high-definition video (up to 1080p/60Hz) and audio (up to 7.1 channels at 192,000 samples per second) for direct connection to either a TV or audio system.

The MYDP platform will be demonstrated at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Feb 14-17, 2011, on both the STMicroelectronics stand (7A106) and at ST-Ericsson's Pavilion (outside hall 7).

MYDP - Technical Information

The MYDP standard is designed to work via any connectors currently used in mobile applications. In addition to the DisplayPort standard functionality, MYDP also brings the capability to charge the mobile handset from the connected TV or monitor. MYDP takes full advantage of the scalability of DisplayPort and maps audio and video streams on to one differential pair (or lane). A sideband channel signal, AUX_HPD, carries the sideband channel signals of the DisplayPort standard, namely the AUX CH differential pair (AUX CH+ and AUX CH-) and HPD over a single pin.

Activision brought its gaming expertise together with top Hollywood creative talent to bring Skylanders Spyro's Adventure to life.  The game and technology was developed by Activision's Novato, California studio, Toys for Bob, led by creative director and studio head, Paul Reiche. The adventure driven story was penned by two of the Academy Award nominated writers of the original Toy Story movie, Alek Sokolow and Joel Cohen. Citizens' Academy Alumni Association Donates 10 EmSeeQ® Wearable Locator Systems to Speed Rescue of Alzheimer's, Dementia and Autism Patients with Little Cost

FRISCO, Texas, Feb. 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- To help improve the safety and security of residents, the Citrus County Sheriff's Office is deploying a new technology designed to upgrade its search and rescue system for locating wandering and lost individuals. Through the generous support of the CCSO Citizens' Academy Alumni Association, the sheriff's office will provide a limited number of EmFinders' EmSeeQ® wearable locator systems that use cellular technology to quickly locate individuals who are prone to wandering due to cognitive disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease, autism and dementia.

The wearable, watch-like EmSeeQ system uses the nationwide U-TDOA cellular technology, which locates more than 60 million 911 calls a year, to accurately determine the location of the device wearer, enabling rescuers to quickly find him or her. The system helps eliminate time-consuming search and rescue operations that can jeopardize the lost individual's safety and cost taxpayers thousands of dollars.

Citrus County is the first sheriff's office in Florida to deploy the EmSeeQ system. The first units will be available to those most at risk and who are suffering from a cognitive disorder. The agency hopes to expand use of the system in the near future. Individual families are responsible for registering the device and paying the monthly $25 fee for location services.

"Missing and endangered individuals who wander is a serious issue not only for the people themselves and their caregivers, but for this agency, too," said Sheriff Jeff Dawsy. "Without a quick recovery, the person can die from exposure or other hazards encountered along the way. After careful research and numerous tests of the EmSeeQ system, we are confident that this system will help to recover these individuals more quickly, which will not only save lives, but a considerable amount of money on search and rescue efforts as well."

EmFinders works directly with public safety access point (PSAP) dispatchers to greatly reduce the search timeframe for a rescue operation. The at-risk individual wears the bracelet 24/7 or as needed, based on the unique situation. If the individual is missing or has wandered off, the caregiver first performs a brief search. Once an emergency situation is confirmed, the caregiver calls 911 to report the elopement and then contacts EmFinders to activate the EmSeeQ device. The device places a call and provides its location to 911 dispatchers who can then send assistance, as they do every day for thousands of wireless 911 calls per month.

"We've looked at several other devices on the market, like GPS and radio frequency systems, but EmSeeQ is best-suited for our unique situations," Dawsy said. "There's no interference from clouds or tree cover, and if the missing or endangered person were to get into a vehicle, he or she can also be tracked while moving."

Because tough economic times might make it difficult for individuals who need the devices the most to cover the expense, Dawsy reached out to the Citizens' Academy Alumni Association, the Citrus County Senior Foundation and several other private donors to purchase the first 10 units. These will be loaned out by the Sheriff's Office to residents in need. The caregiver or family must simply sign up for a one-year contract through EmFinders, which costs approximately $300 (monthly payments are an option). When there is no longer a need for the device, caregivers return it to the Sheriff's Office to be reissued to the next person in need.   

The EmSeeQ product is available in two different styles: a watchband-type device with a traditional buckle, plus a clasp-style that requires two hands to remove for added security.

iPad App is the Third Addition to the PureSense Irrigation Manager Suite of Mobile Products for Growers

FRESNO, Calif., Feb. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- PureSense Environmental Inc. announced that its Irrigation Manager(TM) iPad application is now available through the iTunes App Store.

The PureSense app allows growers to monitor their real-time field conditions and irrigation activity from their iPad and is the third app the company has produced for mobile devices.

Monitoring stations placed throughout growers' fields send data through the internet every fifteen minutes to their PureSense account. The PureSense iPad application allows the grower to access that information anywhere, anytime.  Using the "offline sync" feature, the data remains available on the iPad even when the grower enters an area without cellular signal.

Growers can access current, accurate data for each monitored irrigation set.  With a quick glance at the landing page, a grower can see immediately if their field is too wet, too dry or satisfactory, and make timely irrigation decisions.  By clicking on each site, additional information is displayed for more detailed analysis.  The Alerts feature enables growers to view all recent moisture or weather related alerts, including frost, heat and wind.

Safe Communications Agrees in Principle to Merge its Corporate Security Division into Publically Traded Northsight Capital, Inc.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Feb. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- SAFE COMMUNICATIONS, INC. (Pink Sheets: SGTB)announced today that the company has signed a nonbinding agreement in principle with Northsight Capital, Inc.(OTC Bulletin Board: NCAP), under which NCAP would acquire the company's newly formed corporate security division, NCAP Security Systems, Inc.  In the proposed deal, Safe would retain an approximate 95% equity interest in NCAP, post acquisition.  The company plans to spin a major part of NCAP off to shareholders of Safe as of a future record date, on a one for two basis.  (One share of NCAP for each two shares of Safe owned on the record date).  Completion of the proposed transaction is subject to customary conditions, including satisfactory completion of due diligence and board approval.

The new division, which uses the "MaskMail" anonymous reporting technology (http://www.MaskMail.com), will be headed up by international security expert Chuck Vance. MaskMail will employ the company's anonymous reporting system to enable its customers to receive anonymous reports of theft and other wrongdoing. A recent National Retail Security Survey showed total retail losses cost businesses $33.5 billion last year. According to the survey, the largest percentage of retail shrinkage last year was due to employee theft, at $14.4 billion, accounting for 43 percent of total losses. In its 2010 Report to the Nations, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) said that corporate fraud cost the global economy more than $2.9 trillion in 2009. ACFE surveyed fraud examiners in 106 countries examining 1,843 cases of fraud to reach its conclusions.

EMPLOYEE THEFT A GROWING PROBLEM:

    --  The FBI calls employee theft "the fastest growing crime in America!"
    --  The U.S. Chamber of Commerce estimates that 75% of employees steal from
        the workplace and that most do so repeatedly.
    --  One third of all U.S. corporate bankruptcies are directly caused by
        employee theft.
    --  The American Society of Employers estimates that 20% of every dollar
        earned by a U.S. company is lost to employee theft.

The anonymous reporting system allows subscribers to set up anonymous emails for their employees and for customers to report wrongdoing at the workplace or bad service at their stores. Using its anonymous email capability, considered an advanced anonymous reporting technology, the system gives business owners the ability to set up an email template, address it to themselves or other management personnel, and allow workers to send that email to the management anonymously. The new division's SMS (Short Message Service) system and its anonymous chat rooms afford law enforcement agencies the capability to correspond back and forth with citizens willing to pass on information as long as they are guaranteed anonymity. The anonymous chat rooms allow persons to sign in to a chat with law enforcement or corporate representatives, while remaining completely anonymous.

The WiFi Body Scale automatically records the user's body weight and body mass index (BMI) and transmits the information to a secure webpage or to WiScale, Withings free iPhone application.  The scale can track up to eight users and each user has the ability to designate where they want their weight information to go when they step on the scale.  Also, if enabled by the user, the scale can automatically "Tweet" their information for feedback and motivation.
