Entrust Digital Certificates Now Embedded on Popular Chipsets

Entrust SSL certificates enable secure management of Intel Core vPro processor-based PCs for enterprise environments

DALLAS, Feb. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Entrust, Inc., has added SSL Certificates for Intel® Core(TM) vPro(TM) processors to its large portfolio of digital certificate offerings. This new capability, core to an identity-based security approach, will allow Intel Core vPro Technology customers to use encrypted access to enable remote maintenance of enterprise PCs.

Entrust SSL Certificates for Intel Core vPro processors are purchased by enterprises or organizations to authenticate  IT staff to more securely administer any PC using Intel Core vPro technology on a corporate network -- even when the machine is turned off or disabled -- for maintenance and other necessary tasks. Thanks to the embedded roots and the deployed SSL certificate, the channel between the networked machine and the administrator is encrypted.

Intel will embed Entrust certificates in the latest 5th Generation Intel Core vPro processors and chipsets.

FD-SOI Reduces Power Consumption and Significantly Improves Performance at a Competitive Cost

BOSTON, February 10, 2011/PRNewswire/ --     The SOI Industry Consortium today announced results of an assessment and
characterization of Fully-Depleted Silicon-on-Insulator (FD-SOI) technology,
demonstrating that this advanced CMOS silicon technology is well suited to
address the increasing low-power, high-performance requirements for mobile
and consumer applications. A joint collaboration between Consortium
members-ARM, GLOBALFOUNDRIES, IBM, STMicroelectronics, Soitec, and
CEA-Leti-has demonstrated key benefits of planar FD-SOI technology for these
applications based on an ARM processor. Planar FD-SOI technology enables
substantial improvements in performance and power consumption for
next-generation mobile devices, delivering high-performance applications with
rich multimedia and communications functionality, reduced power consumption
and improved battery life.

    As SoC designs increase in complexity to deliver the enhanced features
required by today's mobile consumer, designers face the challenge of
continuing to reduce the voltage while maintaining the stability of the SRAM
bit-cells. Early benchmarks on FD-SOI technology demonstrate the ability to
reduce the SRAM operating voltage by 100-150mV, thereby reducing memory power
consumption up to 40 percent while maintaining the stability of the SRAM.

    Using an ARM Cortex(TM) processor as a prototyping vehicle, a team of SOI
Industry Consortium members demonstrated that planar FD-SOI technology
enables designers to continue to decrease the voltage to reduce the overall
power, while maintaining system performance.

    The inherent benefits of FD-SOI can also significantly improve system
performance as you transition from generation to generation. Traditionally,
low-power manufacturing technology processes from one generation node to
another yield a performance gain ranging from 20 percent to 30 percent. This
assessment indicates that when the same transition also includes FD-SOI
technology an additional 80 percent gain can be achieved beyond the
traditional increase. This level of improvement can enable higher-performance
handheld products while significantly reducing the overall system power,
which translates into a superior user experience.

    FD-SOI also provides a compelling manufacturing advantage compared to
other potential solutions. Due to its advanced starting substrate, FD-SOI
wafer processing is simpler for the chip manufacturer. The elimination of a
considerable number of mask layers during transistor-formation processing
drives simpler manufacturing process flow, and thereby a cost-efficient
approach to further shrinking CMOS transistors.

advantages of FD-SOI for mobile and consumer applications," said Horacio

Android 3.0 Allowing Lower Level Hardware Access

Google will be pushing new programming APIs into Android 3.0 to allow closer to hardware manipulation. The higher you get in abstraction, the slower the programs will be (to a point). This will allow developers to get closer to the hardware to make more high performance programs.

"The target use is for performance-critical code segments where the needs exceed the abilities of the existing APIs."

To that end, Renderscript exposes two hardware-accelerated interfaces, one for rendering 3D graphics and one for for power-efficient computing operations. To use it, Renderscript relies on a variant of the C99 version of the C programming language. And the Renderscript plumbing that comes along with Honeycomb, aka Android 3.0, makes the decisions about whether to run the computing jobs on regular or graphics processors.


Sounds like a bit of OpenCL is thrown into the mix.

WIXOM, Mich., Feb. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --To address the need for low-cost configurable FPGA computing solutions, Acromag released new XMC-SLX mezzanine modules featuring an economical Xilinx® Spartan®-6 FPGA. These thrifty XMC modules still provide plenty of computing power for custom signal processing and algorithm acceleration with the FPGA's integrated DSP, logic, and memory resources. The Spartan-6 FPGA's logic structure also leverages the premium-performance Virtex FPGA platform's architecture and system-level blocks for faster, easier and more compatible development. Acromag supports the FPGA with a high-throughput PCIe interface, generous memory, and convenient access to field I/O signals. Typical uses include hardware simulation, in-circuit diagnostics, communications, signal intelligence, and image processing. Pricing starts at $2895 with options for extra memory and extended temperature operation.

"Although the Spartan FPGA line is known for low cost, it now offers performance and capabilities beyond those of the largest FPGA from just a few years ago," remarked Joseph Primeau, Acromag's sales and marketing director. Engineers familiar with other Xilinx or Acromag FPGA cards can greatly reduce design time by capitalizing on shared resources. Many Spartan-6 system-level blocks and interface cores are derived from Virtex FPGAs for cross-platform compatibility and better integration. Additionally, the XMC-SLX's support software is very similar to the design kits for other Acromag modules.

Field I/O interfaces to the FPGA via the rear J4/P4 connector and/or with optional front mezzanine I/O extension modules. 64 I/O or 32 LVDS lines are accessible through the rear connector. Acromag's plug-in AXM mezzanine cards provide additional I/O processing capabilities. A variety of these AXM mezzanine I/O cards are available to provide front-end 14-bit 105 MHz A/D conversions or an interface for CMOS digital I/O, RS-485 differential signals, or extra LVDS I/O lines.

All models employ the logic-optimized SLX150 version of the Spartan-6 FPGA which provides 147,433 logic cells and 180 DSP slices. Units are ready for use in conduction-cooled systems and offer an option to upgrade with extended temperature range parts suitable for -40 to 85°C operation.

Large, high-speed memory banks enable high-efficiency data handling. 256k x 64-bit, or optional 1M x 64-bit, dual-ported SRAM facilitates high-speed DMA transfers to the bus or CPU. This memory provides direct links from the PCIe bus and to the FPGA. The high-bandwidth PCIe 4-lane interface ensures fast data throughput.

Acromag's Engineering Design Kit provides utilities to help users develop custom programs, load VHDL into the FPGA, and establish DMA transfers between the FPGA and the CPU. The kit includes a compiled FPGA file and example VHDL code provided as selectable blocks with examples for the local bus interface, read/writes, and change-of-state interrupts to the PCI bus. A JTAG interface allows users to perform on-board VHDL simulation. Further analysis is supported with a ChipScope(TM) Pro interface.

For easy integration of the boards with embedded Windows® applications, Acromag developed a DLL driver software package for compatibility with Microsoft® Visual C++(TM), and Visual Basic. Sample files with "C" source demonstration programs provide easy-to-use tools to test operation of the module.

For real time and open source applications, Acromag offers C libraries for VxWorks®, Linux®, and other operating systems. The libraries provide generic routines (source code included) to handle reads, writes, interrupts, and other functions. Demonstration programs enable the developer to quickly exercise the I/O modules before attaching the routines to the application program. solutions, to resell its market-leading XBRL software, Interstage(R)
XWand(R).

    eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) is fast becoming
the standard for financial reporting across the world, allowing regulators to
define the data they require from organizations in a clear and concise
fashion as XBRL taxonomies. iXBRL - or inline XBRL - is a further development
of XBRL that allows users of financial data to interpret the information
quickly and effectively. In the UK, HMRC (http://www.hmrc.gov.uk) has
mandated that all CT Returns (CT600, computation and entity accounts) for
accounting periods ending after 31 March 2010 and submitted after 31 March

no longer be able to make submissions using XML and PDF formats.

Verizon Commences Tender Offer for all Outstanding Shares of Terremark Worldwide, Inc.

NEW YORK, Feb. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE, Nasdaq: VZ) today announced the commencement of the tender offer for all outstanding shares of Terremark Worldwide, Inc. (Nasdaq: TMRK) for $19.00 per share in cash without interest and less any required withholding taxes. The tender offer is being made by Verizon Holdings Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Verizon, pursuant to a previously announced Agreement and Plan of Merger, dated as of Jan. 27, 2011, by and among Verizon, Verizon Holdings Inc. and Terremark.   

The tender offer will expire at midnight Eastern time on March 10, 2011, unless extended in accordance with the definitive agreement and the applicable rules and regulations of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Any extension of the tender offer will be followed as promptly as practicable by public announcement thereof, and such announcement will be made no later than 9 a.m. Eastern time on the next business day after the previously scheduled expiration date. The tender offer is subject to customary conditions, including the acquisition by Verizon of a majority of the outstanding shares of Terremark common stock on a fully diluted basis and the expiration or termination of the applicable waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act.  As previously disclosed, stockholders holding shares representing approximately 27.6 percent of the outstanding voting shares of Terremark have agreed, among other things, to tender all of their shares in the tender offer.

Today, Verizon will file with the SEC a tender offer statement on Schedule TO, setting forth in detail the terms of the tender offer. Terremark  will shortly file with the SEC a solicitation/recommendation statement on Schedule 14D-9, setting forth in detail, among other things, the unanimous recommendation of Terremark's board of directors that Terremark's stockholders accept the tender offer and tender their Terremark shares pursuant to the tender offer.
