Majority of Moms Credit Technology With Positive Impact on Family Life, According to Parenting Magazine/BlogHer Study
Joint study of moms' social media behavior and opinions on children's technology usage reveals new findings on the effect of technology on parenting behavior Survey results announced at 2010 BlogHer conference in conjunction with the launch of the Parenting/BlogHer Must-Read Moms initiative, a celebration of outstanding writing on parenting blogs
NEW YORK, Aug. 6 -- Bonnier Corp.'s Parenting Group, publisher of Parenting, Babytalk and Conceive magazines, and BlogHer, Inc., the leading participatory news, entertainment and information network for women online, today announced the results of a study of 1,032 moms on the effect of technology on parenting behavior. The study was jointly conducted by Parenting's MomConnection research network and BlogHer's Publishing Network. The survey was developed in conjunction with Parenting and BlogHer's new Must-Read Moms program, an annual editorial feature celebrating outstanding mom blog writing that will appear in the September issue of Parenting magazine, on Parenting.com, and on BlogHer.com.
Parenting and BlogHer found that the majority of moms surveyed have a very positive view of technology's role in fostering communication and connections within their families:
-- 87% agree that understanding new technology is important to stay
connected with their children.
-- 70% feel that technology can provide great ways for families to spend
time together.
-- 83% care about new technology because of the benefits it brings to
their everyday lives.
While many of the moms surveyed are receptive to their families' use of technology, most also believe parents should have an important role in setting limits for their children:
-- 88% want to keep up on new technology so that they can monitor what
their kids are doing, and the majority of moms are using a variety of
parental controls to do so.
-- Moms are much more likely to monitor their children's digital
activities with their knowledge than without.
-- 94% are likely to set time limits on their kids' usage of the internet
and technology; and 95% are likely to set content limits.
-- Moms do see threats to their children...from both the Internet and
television, but they don't believe those fears have been realized:
Only 5% report believing that their children have ever been engaged in
addictive online behavior like excessive gaming, only 4% believe their
kids have viewed pornography online, and less than 1% believe their
kids have participated in cyber-bullying, sexting or inappropriate
online communication with adults.
Corroborating findings BlogHer first reported in 2006, women still find money to be the most taboo subject they could share online. Regardless of the medium they use - Facebook, Twitter, message boards or blogs - respondents were twice as likely to discuss parenting and work/family balance issues online than topics related to their financial situation.
"The results of this survey were very encouraging," said Nancy Hallberg, chief strategy officer of The Parenting Group. "Today's moms are not fearful of technology and its growing role in their family's lives - they view it not only as a tool to connect with other moms, but as a way to communicate with their children and teach them responsible ways to interact online. This mindset provides marketers and content developers with an enormous opportunity to help educate moms about the ways to use technology to their advantage as parents."

Preformed Line Products Board Authorization of Share Repurchase Program

entire world into one global thought and create the first story in human
history that will be collectively written by billions of people.

After a predetermined number of votes, the letter that receives the most

Cayuga County, N.Y. and Motorola Announce Contract for Public Safety Interoperable Communications System
Simulcast System and P25 Network Provide Integrated Communication for Police, Fire, EMS and County Agencies
SCHAUMBURG, Ill., Aug. 5 -- The Enterprise Mobility Solutions business of Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) and Cayuga County, N.Y. today announced a $13.3 million contract for a Project 25 (P25) countywide communications system providing interoperability with county and local public safety agencies, including the City of Auburn.
Scheduled for installation in late 2011, the new Motorola ASTRO® 25 IP Digital Trunked Simulcast System will provide seamless interoperable emergency communications coverage to sheriff, police, firefighters, EMTs and other first responders of Cayuga County.
"With the current radio system pushing thirty years in operation, we realized a dire need to upgrade our public safety communications," said Peter Tortorici, Cayuga County Legislature Chairman. "The new system will allow seamless, interoperable communications between both County agencies and the City of Auburn, and will help ensure our County's residents receive the timeliest and most effective response when attention is needed."
The system, operating through a 9-site, 7-Channel UHF trunked IP-based P25 network that provides countywide digital radio coverage, includes a new Motorola MCC7500 IP dispatch console based at the City of Auburn public safety office. The county will also benefit from the system's new UHF tone and voice-paging system, allowing for the efficient dispatch of calls to first responders.
The Motorola system will utilize P25 technology on Motorola's XTL mobile and XTS portable series of digital radios, which are capable of operating in the UHF band. When the system is operational, Cayuga will join the Central New York Interoperable Communications Consortium (CNYICC), Network of Motorola P25 Systems, which also includes Onondaga, Madison and Oswego counties.
Project 25 is the functional and technical American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standard for digital two-way radios developed in a joint standards effort between the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials, International Inc. (APCO), the National Association of State Telecommunications Directors (NASTD) and numerous federal sponsor agencies.
"Motorola is committed to providing Cayuga County and the City of Auburn the most advanced, interoperable public safety communications system designed to meet the specific mission critical needs of its first responders," said Dave White, Motorola vice president. The ASTRO 25 network will allow Cayuga County to manage and monitor all communications between agencies. He received honorary degrees from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Stevens Institute of Technology, and Kettering University. first ever pre-paid inter-standard roaming call was made while roaming on to
an international GSM network. The call was made possible by MACH's

Starcomms Plc Nigeria to deploy MACH's ISR solutions which is a first in

Verizon Wireless encourages students and their parents to donate their no-longer-used cell phones and accessories to HopeLine®, the company's cell phone recycling and refurbishing program, to benefit victims of domestic violence.
HopeLine collects no-longer-used wireless phones and accessories in any condition from any wireless service provider. The phones are then refurbished or recycled in an environmentally sound way. Refurbished phones - complete with 3,000 minutes of wireless service - are provided to local domestic violence organizations or local government and law enforcement agencies for use with their domestic violence clients.

According to Compass Intelligence, a high-tech market analytics firm, small businesses (less than 100 employees) spent $5.6 billion in 2009 on wireless data services and expect to spend $18.9 billion in 2014, resulting in a compound annual growth rate of 27.6 percent.
"We estimate that small businesses make up roughly 38 percent of business wireless subscribers, while comprising about 45 percent of wireless data spend," said Kneko Burney, president of Compass Intelligence. "As such, small businesses are a crucial segment of the wireless data market, and these customers' spending is only expected to rise in the coming years. Additionally, our research shows that small businesses spend more on average per user for wireless data than their enterprise counterparts, primarily because a greater percentage of their workforce is mobile and likely to rely only on wireless for their business connectivity."
According to the AT&T Small Business Technology Poll, a national study released earlier this year by AT&T, 71 percent of small businesses responding indicate they use laptop data cards and nearly 79 percent indicate they use Wi-Fi hotspots to conduct business-related activities. Moreover, 60 percent of small businesses indicate they use their laptop more now to access data through mobile networks than they did two years ago and nearly 68 percent use Wi-Fi hotspots more now to access data than they did two years ago.
In addition, the study revealed that nearly 85 percent of small businesses feel that recovering data would be important following a disaster. Yet only 30 percent of small businesses use off-site data backup, such as online backup. So in the event of a disaster that destroys their office, a majority of small businesses might well lose critical data because they're not fully prepared. The Tech Support 360 Backup and Go component of the new broadband bundle addresses that potential risk.

CHICAGO, Aug. 5 -- During this Chicago Cubs baseball season, AT&T* and WGN-TV are offering a new app that puts fans in the director's chair to control how they watch the team compete at Wrigley Field.
AT&T U-verse® TV today announced the launch of the Chicago Cubs Multiview, a new TV app that lets you view up to four different camera angles of the Chicago Cubs home games at one time, choosing from the main WGN-TV Chicago game broadcast and six alternate camera angles.

National Instruments Releases New High-Performance Servo Drives and Motors
New Products Provide a Distributed Motion Solution with EtherCAT Technology
AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 5, 2010 -- NIWeek -- National Instruments (NASDAQ:NATI) today announced new AKD Servo Drives and AKM Servo Motors that make it possible for engineers and scientists to easily build scalable, distributed motion control systems. The new products simplify setup and configuration for deploying custom motion applications to any NI real-time controller supporting NI EtherCAT technology including NI CompactRIO, PXI real-time controllers and NI industrial controllers. The new AKM brushless servo motors provide superior dynamic performance, are available in four different frame sizes and feature high torque, density and speed ranges.
