High-Speed Network Broadcasts Live Baseball Action in High Definition to Computer Screens Everywhere
FLORHAM PARK, N.J., July 8 -- Global Crossing (NASDAQ:GLBC), a leading global IP solutions provider, today announced that it has partnered with MLB.com, the official Web site of Major League Baseball, to provide high-speed, high-capacity connectivity among all 30 Major League ballparks and the MLB.com servers in New York City, allowing the league to distribute live streaming video and other information to its online subscriber base.
The Global Crossing Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP VPN) enables MLB.com's subscribers to watch a full season of 2,430 live games -- in high-definition (HD) video quality -- and to have real-time access to baseball news, statistics, in-game video highlights and other information about their favorite teams and players on their computers and mobile devices. Global Crossing's Converged IP Services allow MLB.com to deliver these services over Global Crossing's global, IP-based Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network with the benefit of agreed service level parameters.

The SonicWALL Board of Directors has unanimously determined that the Thoma Bravo/Ontario Teachers' Merger and the other transactions contemplated by the merger agreement, taken together, are at a price and on terms that are fair to, advisable and in the best interests of SonicWALL's shareholders. We urge you to vote "FOR" the Merger on the enclosed proxy card today.
The Thoma Bravo/Ontario Teachers' Merger is the result of an extensive and deliberate process undertaken by SonicWALL's Board and management team, together with the assistance of outside financial and legal advisors, to maximize value for all SonicWALL shareholders. Under the terms of the Merger, SonicWALL shareholders will receive $11.50 per share in cash for each share of SonicWALL common stock that they hold. The Merger represents a premium of approximately 28% over the Company's closing price on June 2, 2010, the last trading day prior to announcement of the Merger, and a premium of approximately 63% over the Company's enterprise value as of that same date. The Merger is not subject to a financing condition and is expected to close shortly following the Special Meeting, if approved by the shareholders.
Following the announcement of the Merger, the SonicWALL Board received an unsolicited third-party acquisition proposal, as described in the Company's proxy statement for the upcoming Special Meeting. On June 22, 2010, SonicWALL entered into a confidentiality agreement, which included a standstill provision, with the third-party and its financial sponsors, and engaged in a two-week due diligence process. On July 5, 2010, the third-party informed SonicWALL that it no longer intends to pursue an acquisition of the Company. The SonicWALL Board continues to unanimously support the Thoma Bravo/Ontario Teachers' Merger and continues to believe that the Merger is in the best interests of the Company's shareholders.

New iPhone App 'SexyTime' Brings Science into Bedroom, Keeps Getting Smarter about Sex
WASHINGTON, July 8 -- A new, premium sex app for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch may seem like just another attempt to monetize sexual curiosity, but beneath the blunt title lies plenty of scientific backing. "SexyTime Sex Position Guide and Choreographer," by Arlington, Virginia based Calvert Strategies, has been on the market one month and has already been banned in China, even after overcoming complicated negotiations with Apple Inc. Apparently, not everyone fully appreciates the science of sex.
The company's mission is simple, yet ambitious: to improve health and wellness through better sex. "Easier said than done," says R. C. Kuhn, Calvert Strategies president and project "Chief Mad Scientist." "Few adult-themed products improve overall health because consumers are enticed primarily by flashy marketing, not quality. Most products reinforce behaviors in isolation of partners, or worse, are just scams, even in iTunes. Ironically, the people that most need sex coaching are least likely to seek help." But thanks to low-cost apps on phones worldwide, there's now a powerful platform for scientists to lend sound, healthy advice to virtually anyone, anywhere. "We're hoping we've designed something enticing, but also educational," adds Kuhn. "The brain is the most important sex organ. We want people enjoying exciting, rewarding lovemaking, and simultaneously becoming smarter about sex. Better, more frequent sex means healthier minds and bodies."
The SexyTime Choreographer is actually four high quality apps in one, offering more features than are available in several leading iPhone sex apps combined. But the well-intentioned proof of concept still met enormous challenges from Apple's review team, precisely while Apple publicly shunned sex apps. And though still banned in China, Calvert Strategies hopes science will eventually overcome. Roke Launches World's First Wide Area Coverage Femtocell
ROMSEY, England, July 8, 2010-- Roke Manor Research has developed the world's first 3G Wide Area Coverage
Femtocell capability. Using picoChip's technology as the development
platform, Roke's reference design has a 40km range which delivers more than
40,000 times the area covered by most other femtocells. It is also the first
to support full mobility at speeds of up to 120 kilometres per hour, allowing
mobile users to travel while connected to the 3G base stations.
This solution could be used to cost-effectively serve sparsely-populated
rural areas that are conventionally thought of as uneconomic, or to quickly
deploy cellular coverage, for example as 'instant infrastructure' to help
emergency services after a natural disaster.
The new Wide Area Coverage Femtocell requires minimum infrastructure, and

Smile and Say 3D: Sony Introduces World's Smallest 3D Digital Still Cameras
Models Offer Superior Auto Mode, Background Defocus, Low-Light Performance and AVCHD Video
SAN DIEGO, July 8 -- Sony today unveiled two new Cyber-shot® digital still cameras (models DSC-TX9 and DSC-WX5) that are the world's smallest 3D cameras, capturing 3D images with a single lens system using a sweeping motion.
"Sony is focused on being the leader in 3D technology, leveraging its expertise to create the best 3D products, content and unique entertainment experiences," said Kelly Davis, director of the digital imaging business at Sony Electronics. "Sony is making it easy to create personal 3D content that can be enjoyed with friends or family on compatible 3D television systems."
Create Your Own 3D Panoramas
Both models offer a 3D Sweep Panorama(TM) feature, which lets you take panoramic pictures in one press-and-sweep motion. The high-speed burst of frames is stitched together using innovative processing techniques to automatically create detail-packed 3D panoramas. These images can be enjoyed in 2D or stunning 3D on compatible 3D televisions (3D-compatible HDMI cables and 3D glasses are also required and are sold separately.)
The DSC-TX9, which has a 3.5-inch 921k resolution LCD touchscreen, and the DSC-WX5, which has a 2.8-inch LCD screen, also let you view images in a whole new way. Unlike 3D Sweep Panorama mode, which lets you view your 3D images on compatible 3D television systems, Sweep Multi Angle(TM) lets you view images moving in simulated 3D right on the cameras' LCD screen by tilting the camera back and forth. This new shooting feature captures 15 images at different angles and then compiles them into one photo, creating a 3D-like effect on the display.
In addition to Sweep Multi Angle, the 12.2 megapixel TX9 and WX5 models offer new features including Background Defocus, which simulates depth of field control and Superior Auto mode, which provides low image-noise levels previously only available from DSLR cameras.
Superior Quality, DSLR-Like Artistic Photos
Superior Auto mode also makes it easier to get cleaner, sharper more dynamic pictures and fewer missed shots. An extension of Intelligent Auto mode, the Superior Auto feature takes multiple shots to reduce image noise and extend dynamic range. The cameras automatically recognize the correct scene, then quickly shoot and when needed, combine up to six shots to produce images of greater quality than possible with a single shot.
Superior Auto is the world's first auto mode that utilizes multiple shots. While there are other cameras with multi-shot technology, only Sony cameras know when to take multiple shots automatically. Only Superior Auto can evaluate the scene and automatically engage multi-shot technology to get the best shot.
The Background Defocus mode, featured in the TX9 and WX5 models, provides artistic photos like those taken with a DSLR by making it easy to blur the image's background, putting the emphasis on your subject and creating a bokeh effect. The camera takes two shots, identifies the background and applies a defocus effect keeping your subject crisp and clear in the foreground.
The Natural Flash feature also improves image quality and captures colors the way the eye sees them. This feature takes a reference shot without flash and then uses that as a color reference correction, resulting in more lifelike images.
These cameras also help you focus on moving subjects. By selecting your subject on the LCD screen, the camera will keep focus even as the subject moves closer or farther away. Another new feature, Soft Skin mode, recognizes skin tones and reduces the appearance of imperfections without affecting the rest of the shot. With Sony's "Exmor R" back-illuminated CMOS sensor technology, the new cameras provide excellent low-light performance and 10fps burst shooting.
Full HD Video
With the AVCHD format, used in Sony's high-definition Handycam® camcorders, the models can record movies in 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolutions in 60i at up to 17Mbps for smooth movement during playback. They can also capture videos in the MP4 format (up to 1440 x1080 30p 12Mbps) for online sharing.
In addition to its AVCHD video capability, the TX9 and WX5 cameras have Optical SteadyShot® image stabilization, helping overcome camera shake.
With a Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar® 4x zoom lens, the compact TX9 camera lets you focus as little as 0.4 inches from your subject for extraordinary close-up shots. The 4x (25-100mm) wide-angle lens is perfect for capturing a wider view of your subject at closer distances.
The WX5 camera is an ideal choice for DSLR owners who also want to carry a compact, high-performance point-and-shoot camera. With a Sony G lens (5x 24-120mm), the WX5 camera can capture an unusually wide range for its compact size and features a wide aperture (F2.4), enhancing low-light performance.

First Baseball Games to be Broadcast in 3D will Air July 10 and 11 via YES Network 3D
MANCHESTER, Conn., July 7 -- On Saturday, July 10 and Sunday, July 11, Cox Communications will broadcast the first Major League Baseball games in 3D between the New York Yankees and the Seattle Mariners. The games will air via YES Network 3D in Manchester and Meriden, Connecticut on channel 784.
Subscribers with 3DTVs will be able to watch the Yankees games live at 10:10 p.m. ET on Saturday and 4:10 p.m. ET via YES 3D on Sunday. Those without 3DTVs at home can visit the Best Buy stores in Manchester or Meriden during business hours on Sunday, July 11. Best Buy will be re-airing Saturday's 3D Yankees game from opening to 4:00 p.m., leading up to the live coverage of Sunday's contest at 4:10.

CUB Issues Consumer Alert on Low-Cost Calling Plans, Prices Frozen by Telecom Act Could Cut AT&T Local Phone Bills in Illinois by $200/Year
CHICAGO, July 7 -- The Citizens Utility Board (CUB) issued a statewide consumer alert Wednesday notifying AT&T customers that three often-overlooked, low-cost calling plans created by CUB have had their prices frozen by the recently passed Illinois Telecommunications Act and could save Land of Lincoln families about $200 a year.
The three Consumer's Choice plans, which AT&T offers as the result of a legal settlement with CUB, were designed by the consumer group to fit the needs of the average Illinois caller. At a monthly cost of $3.05 to $19.70, the plans cover from 30 local calls up to unlimited calling with two calling features, such as Caller ID or Voice Mail.
CUB held news conferences in Champaign, Decatur, Peoria and Rockford on Wednesday to tell Illinois consumers about the low-cost plans and that their prices were under a rate freeze.
The Telecommunications Act, signed by Gov. Pat Quinn in June, locked in the Consumer's Choice prices through at least June 2013, when lawmakers will revisit the telecom law. Under an early version of the bill, phone-company lobbyists set the stage for the elimination of the low-cost plans, but CUB, the Illinois Attorney General's office, and other consumer advocates protected them and helped to get their prices frozen for at least the next three years.
A CUB study released in 2009 estimated that Illinois consumers could be overspending on local, long-distance, and wireless service by more than $1 billion a year, but could make significant cuts to their costs by following a few simple steps. In fact, the study found that AT&T customers could save a total of $485 million on local service by switching to the Consumer's Choice plans or the company's standard pay-per-call rates.
The Consumer's Choice plans were created in a legal settlement between CUB and AT&T that was approved by state regulators in 2006. CUB's free Cost-cutter recently served its 40,000th customer, showing consumers how to save a total of $7.8 million a year, or $194 per person.
"The Consumer's Choice plans are a lean alternative to the bloated, all-you-can-eat phone packages often pushed by phone companies," said CUB Outreach Director Sarah Moskowitz. "Consumer's Choice plans give callers the services they need, without the hefty price tag. That's good news in any economy."
There are three Consumer's Choice plans available:
*Consumer's Choice Basic, ranging from $3.05 a month in downtown Chicago to $9.50 per month in the rest of Illinois, provides the safety and reliability of a landline, without the bells and whistles. The plan includes AT&T's Line Charge and 30 local phone calls. Beyond the first 30 calls, local calls are billed at 6 cents per call.
*Consumer's Choice Extra costs $9 to $15 per month and includes unlimited local phone calls and no calling features. This plan is best for a caller who doesn't want extra calling features, but makes roughly 100 local phone calls on up per month.
*Consumer's Choice Plus, costing $16 to $19.70 per month, includes two calling features, such as Caller ID or Voice Mail, and unlimited local phone calls.
Customers on these plans, along with those on AT&T's standard per-call rates, also enjoy service-quality protections that other AT&T customers don't. Consumer's Choice plans cover local calls only, roughly 15 miles or closer to home. For calls beyond 15 miles, CUB often recommends consumers choose a different long-distance carrier, such as Pioneer Telephone.
Pioneer offers AT&T customers long-distance rates of just 2 to 3 cents per minute, plus a $10 "CUB credit" to start. It waives its $1.99 monthly paper-billing fee for customers who choose online billing, and in months when no long-distance calls are made. Even a basic long-distance plan from AT&T charges more: 5 cents per minute and a $5 monthly fee.

Ipsos and Techneos Collaborate on Groundbreaking Mobile App-Based Study
VANCOUVER, July 7 -- Techneos announced a new collaboration with Ipsos, a leading global survey-based market research company. Their latest project called "The Great British Weekend" was conducted during the May 2010 Bank Holiday long weekend using Techneos' survey research application, SODA across multiple mobile phones; Nokia and BlackBerry devices.
The "Great British Weekend" is a groundbreaking study inspired by how people use their mobile phone in their everyday life. "This new technique truly opened our eyes and made us challenge our stereotypes of consumer segments we thought we had figured out decades ago," said Sean Conry. "We came across many unique day-in-the life mobile diary entries including a tech-savvy grandma who used our app on her BlackBerry in between looking after her granddaughter and checking Facebook, and an unassuming stay-at-home mom who surprised us when she stayed out playing cards until 5:30 a.m. after attending a Hells Angels funeral. Marketers and researchers can leverage the concept and results of this study to dive deeper into just about any consumer segment," added Conry.

CROYDON, England, July 7, 2010-- Local authorities can now instantly pinpoint and contact all residents

New KM Series KVMs Designed for Data Centers Requiring Secure Access and Control of Multiple Servers
FOOTHILL RANCH, Calif., July 7 -- ATEN today introduced new 32-port CAT5 Matrix KVM switches for companies demanding enterprise KVMs with out-of-band and multimedia support. The new KM0932/KM0532 units are part of the ALTUSEN line of enterprise-class KVM offerings from ATEN. These new Matrix KVM switches offer high-quality video sessions for secure real-time control of an IT manager's entire data center device portfolio. ATEN also introduced the KM0032 Matrix Expansion KVM which enables users to expand the number of servers that can be controlled. Available now, the KM0932/KM0532/KM0032 are priced at $6699.95, $3999.95 and $3999.95, respectively.
The KM0532 and KM0932 allow five and nine consoles to independently and simultaneously manage up to 32 directly connected servers. The switches can be daisy chained, cascaded, or both, providing flexible expansion configurations that allow up to nine consoles to control thousands of servers. These new CAT5 KVMs are ideal for secure data centers, network administrators with multi-user local access and remote management needs. For multimedia users, the new switches allow designers to access Mac graphical and Windows word processing environments.
An advanced Dual Root feature makes it possible to link two KM0932 switches to achieve an 18-console configuration that allows administrators to increase the number of consoles they deploy to match their growth requirements, and offers an ideal solution for applications that utilize multiple video displays. The KM0532 and KM0932 units are the first Matrix KVM switches to offer both audio and virtual media features. The audio capability is ideal for presentation facilities, multimedia and studio applications.

manage up to 32 target devices, while only taking up 1U of rack space.
They also simplify cabling requirements and reduce cost by using CAT
5e/6 cable to connect console modules and KVM adapter cables. This not
only permits extending the distance between console and servers up to
300 meters with 1280x1024@60Hz, but also offers an independent
configuration for secure access, which is especially ideal for
security concerns associated with large server rooms and data centers.
-- Graphical User Interface: Matrix KVM switches offer an intuitive,
full-screen graphical UI for both console and browser-based sessions.
The composite integrated tree view of all ports offers convenient
navigation and access.
-- Dual Power Supply: Dual power supply operation provides backup
redundancy and reliability - ensuring that down-time is kept at a
minimum. Should one of the power supplies become unavailable, the
other will take over in order to keep the system functioning normally.
-- Power Association: Used in conjunction with a PN0108 Power Over the
NET(TM) power management device, users can associate a Matrix KVM
Switch's port with a PN0108's power outlet, and then manage the power
operation of a server from the switch's interface - a single interface
point. It also enables users to associate a second outlet port if the
server has a dual power supply, and lets users synchronize the
operation for both power supplies.
-- Virtual Media: Virtual Media support lets users map DVD/CD-ROMs and
other storage media to any servers connected with virtual
media-capable adapter cables. Virtual media empowers users to conduct
file transfers, install applications and OS patches and perform
diagnostics from a console module - reducing down-time and saving
maintenance costs.
-- Audio Support: Ideal for multimedia users, especially at television
and radio stations as well as advertising agencies.
