IRIS Technologies Inc. Launches Two New Stratix IV FPGA-Based Boards
RICHARDSON, Texas, June 16 -- IRIS Technologies Inc. (http://www.iris-technologies.net) has released two new boards based on the Altera Stratix® IV 820 devices. These contain the largest FPGA on the market and provide the flexibility for customers to develop and prototype their own products.
The first board is the S4 V28S logic board that has a PCI Express x8 interface (Gen 1 or Gen 2) to the host and has two Altera Stratix® IV EP4SE820 FPGAs. The S4 V28S board is ideally suited for ASIC prototyping.
Each S4 V28S logic board provides between up to 30 million ASIC-gate capacity. Each board has one independent trigger input, two independent global clock inputs and two global clock outputs. The board is wired such that each FPGA can drive the clock output to an external sink and to the other FPGA. On the board itself, it is possible to derive and drive over 200 local clocks. The clocking and reset tree is made more flexible when integrated with the IRIS clocking and reset module. The board also contains 5 HSMC connectors, one for daughter card interfaces and 4 for board to board connections or for daughter cards.
The second board is the S4 V8S logic tile. It is a single Altera Stratix® IV EP4SE820 FPGA-based tile board that has 6 HSMC connectors on it. The Tile board has multiple, independent, trigger inputs and outputs, it also has independent multiple clock inputs and outputs, dual port SRAMs on the board and can be connected to other IRIS Logic boards or to other S4 V8S tile boards to create a flexible prototyping platform.
The S4 V8S tile boards have an ASIC capacity of up to 15 million ASIC-gate capacity. These boards are ideally suited to build custom development platforms for application specific development such as video, networking, communications and control.
The HSMC connectors on all IRIS boards conform to the Altera HSMC specification and can host third party or IRIS daughter cards. IRIS supplies board to board or board to daughter card interconnect cables, that can be ordered separately. IRIS also supplies an HSMC to HAPS adapter board that is a separate product that connects Altera based IRIS cards to existing Xilinx based HAPS compatible systems.

The new version 5.2 offers native connectivity to several new data sources and enhancements to the analytical maps.
New data connections include Sybase IQ, Greenplum, ParAccel and Microsoft PowerPivot. Map improvements include new map visual styles and greater international detail. In addition to the fifteen other connectors already present in Tableau, users can also access other data sources via ODBC. New Data Connections
The new data connections include the following databases:
-- Greenplum is a massively parallel processing (MPP) database designed
for data warehousing and large-scale analytics. Tableau now supports
connecting to Greenplum databases version 3.3 and higher.
-- Microsoft PowerPivot is an Excel add-in for modeling and analyzing
data in extremely large Excel worksheets of up to 2 gigabytes,
literally millions of rows of data. PowerPivot for SharePoint makes
these worksheets available to others in your organization by serving
this data from SharePoint. Tableau connects to PowerPivot files that
have been published to SharePoint 2010 servers.
-- The ParAccel Analytic Database (PADB) is a columnar, massively
parallel database for data warehousing, predictive analytics, and
advanced business insight. Tableau connects to PADB version 2 and
higher.
-- Sybase IQ is an analytics server which combines a column-based
architecture, patented data compression and indexing technology, and
flexible scalability in all dimensions (computing power, storage, and
number of users) to deliver mission-critical business intelligence,
analytics and data warehousing solutions on any standard hardware and
operating system.
Additionally, Tableau has a new connection option to use the generic ODBC standard for accessing other databases. As a publicly defined standard, many database vendors make ODBC drivers available for connecting to their databases.
Enhanced Maps
Unlike other maps which are designed for directions, Tableau's maps have been carefully designed to be effectively display data by providing geographic context for analysis. In the 5.2 release, Tableau refined the map visual style with improvements to font treatments, updates to the colors used for water, land, parks and urban areas, as well as some adjustments to roads and border styles to be more effective for data applications. Source data for the map cartography has been primarily moved to data provided from OpenStreetMap contributors, a collaborative, community driven initiative to provide detailed worldwide maps.
The 5.2 release also offers increased levels of map detail worldwide so people can zoom into more detailed views in virtually every country and region. Tableau maps now provide details to the following levels:

PlayStation Plus provides gamers with more value, access and convenience by offering subscribers features such as frequent discounts on PlayStation Store content, free and exclusive access to select games, full game trials, early invitations to select betas of popular games, and new functionality such as content downloads and updates which will automatically be "pushed" to the PS3 system even when consumers are not using their system.
While all PlayStation Network users will continue to have free access to its expanding game and non-game content and service offerings for the PS3 and PSP systems - just as they do today - PlayStation Plus members will gain access to an exclusive set of features and functionalities designed specifically for gamers. PlayStation Plus members will have free access to titles including WipEout HD, Minis and PS one® Classics such as Fieldrunners, Age of Zombies and Rally Cross, a full game trial of inFAMOUS®, and discounts on downloadable content such as Fat Princess. Original and Exclusive Programming

PlayStation Plus will further enhance PlayStation Network, which has recently achieved a cumulative number of registered accounts of over 50 million globally.
By accessing PlayStation®Store via PlayStation®3 (PS3®), PlayStation Network users will be able to purchase membership*1 to PlayStation Plus, providing members with new options to expand and enhance their gaming experience and enabling them to gain an exclusive set of features and content. For users' convenience, PlayStation Plus will be available in different subscription options of 30 days (Japan: 500 yen, Asia: HK$38), 90 days (North America: $17.99, Europe: euro 14.99) and 365 days (Japan: 5,000 yen, Asia: HK$233, North America: $49.99, Europe: euro 49.99).

The player needs to put his/her left thumb on the screen and a control button will position under it. The accelerometer of the iPod touch/iPhone is detecting movements. Parrot AR.Drone moves forward, back or sidewise depending on the inclinations of the iPod touch/iPhone.
Another command button on the right of the iPod touch/iPhone screen enables the pilot to make the AR.Drone rise, go down or rotate.
In Ace mode, a single button enables the pilot to fully control and pilot the AR.Drone.
Touch the landing button and the quadricopter will land and stop its engines.
A unique high-tech quadricopter
Parrot AR.Drone is made of carbon fiber and high resistance PA66 plastic.
The heart of the AR.Drone contains MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanicals Systems), three axes accelerometer, two gyrometers [one axe & two axes], one ultrasound sensor and two cameras:
-- The first camera, located underneath, is connected to an Inertial
Measurement Unit. Thanks to this unit, the AR.Drone is capable of
measuring its horizontal speed and performing mind-blowing stationary
flights. The system of images comparison enables it to compensate
turbulences due to the wind during outside flights.
These technologies are usually used for professional or military applications and have been adapted to gaming universe for the first time.
-- The second camera, at the front of the quadricopter, broadcasts and
streams on the iPod touch/iPhone screen what the drone is seeing as if
the player was in the pilot's position.
This camera plays a major role for video gaming thanks to the use of form recognition: it enables augmented reality.
For example, the front camera will recognize another AR.Drone in the game battle between two quadricopters, or tags which will turn into obstacles, monsters or robots on the screen of the iPod touch/iPhone.
Video streaming has been enhanced compared to the development version of AR.Drone introduced at CES. Also, the front of the hull has been strengthened to better protect the camera.
The players can choose the camera they prefer or display the two cameras simultaneously on the screen of the iPod touch/iPhone.
New rules for games
With the AR.Drone, Parrot is combining the worlds of video gaming and radio-controlled models.
This one-of-a-kind quadricopter enables consumers to recreate a large number of video games in the real world and also offers a multi-player possibility thanks to augmented reality.

A new look for inside and outside flights
Parrot AR.Drone is designed for flying inside and outside.
For a flight outside, a shaped hull reduces the area to the wind and offers an extreme maneuverability of the quadricopter.
Three hulls are available:
-- orange and yellow
-- orange and green
-- orange and blue
These vivid colors enable the pilot to easily follow the movements of his/her AR.Drone. They are also easily recognized by the front-camera of the AR.Drone, which enables the AR.Drone to identify a competitor for two-player battles.
For indoor flight, a specific hull -- with a white, gray and black cockpit -- surrounds and protects the propellers if the AR.Drone hits an obstacle. Stickers, with colors similar to the shaped hull, can be fixed on each arch to enable drone battles inside.
Finally, electroluminescent diodes (green at front, red on the back), are positioned on the landing gear and enable the pilot to easily position his/her AR.Drone for piloting. These diodes also activate and react according to the action from the game.

An open development platform
Since the introduction at CES 2010, the Software Development Kit, which was updated in May 2010, is available for developers to create games for the AR.Drone. Source code porting on other platforms is also feasible from the SDK.

The only bounds of the forthcoming games for the AR.Drone are the imagination and ingenuity of the fans of Parrot's quadricopter.
