ST. LOUIS, June 16 -- Savvis, Inc. (NASDAQ:SVVS), a global leader in cloud infrastructure and hosted IT solutions for enterprises, today announced that it has completed its acquisition of Fusepoint, Inc., a leading independent provider of managed IT and colocation services to enterprises in Canada.
Fusepoint, a portfolio company of M/C Venture Partners, was acquired for approximately $121 million in cash (after adjustment for estimated working capital and debt levels and subject to a final working capital adjustment). Savvis expects the acquisition purchase price to approximate 5.0x EBITDA after synergies of approximately $8 million, which are expected to be fully achieved in 2011.

Our synergies will lead to many exciting opportunities for new and existing clients," said Jim Ousley, Savvis chairman and chief executive officer. "Not only will we have a Canadian platform - which our largest clients have requested - Fusepoint's clients will gain access to Savvis' global footprint and enterprise-class managed service offerings."
Established in 1999 and headquartered in Toronto, Fusepoint's offerings include managed infrastructure and hosting, colocation services, application development and maintenance services. Fusepoint's three data centers, located in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal, offer a total of more than 40,000 sellable square feet. The company has more than 300 clients.

Organizations Announce Disaster Hero for the PC/Mac
LOS ANGELES June 16 -- Video game developer and publisher Legacy Interactive® today announced a contract with the American College of Emergency Physicians to develop a game designed to teach children and their families how to prepare for all types of hazards or emergencies. This project is funded by a grant (2008-GT-T8-K028) from the Department of Homeland Security.
The web-based game will be targeted to multiple audiences, including children, early teens, parents, caregivers and teachers, and will focus on what to do before, during and after a disaster. The game and associated website will emphasize getting an emergency kit, having an emergency plan and being informed.
"This project to develop an educational program for children using a game platform will be a unique approach to teaching kids to have an active role in home disaster planning," said Dr. Angela Gardner, President of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP). "ACEP is pleased to partner with many other stakeholders representing teachers, schools, daycare centers and youth organizations in the development of this program."
Players will be encouraged to learn about the types of disasters that might occur in their geographic region or state. The most common disasters - earthquakes, floods, hurricanes and tornadoes - will be used to teach preparedness steps and to help users know how to prepare and what to do during and after an emergency event.
The game will include a variety of different game genres, depending on the type of educational content to be conveyed. For example, time management and puzzle gameplay will be used to teach how a person prepares for a possible emergency, including determining escape routes and meeting places. Hidden object gameplay will be used to teach what items belong in an emergency supply kit, such as batteries, flashlight and canned food. Simulation gameplay will be used to present quick-care tips such as applying pressure to control bleeding.
The players take the role of a "Disaster Hero" to help different families prepare for various disasters. Each disaster scenario provides a variety of game experiences and quizzes on what was learned. Points are earned throughout the experience and displayed on the Disaster Hero website. Downloadable learning activities and checklists targeted to teachers and parents also will be available on the website.

Record Number of iPhone Owners Trade in to Fund Upgrade

iPhone 4 pre-order sales yesterday were 10-times higher than the first day of pre-ordering for the iPhone 3G S last year. Consumers are clearly excited about iPhone 4, AT&T's more affordable data plans and our early upgrade pricing.
Given this unprecedented demand and our current expectations for our iPhone 4 inventory levels when the device is available June 24, we're suspending pre-ordering today in order to fulfill the orders we've already received.
The availability of additional inventory will determine if we can resume taking pre-orders.

With the proliferation of mobile devices and bandwidth requirements, monitoring and managing cell sites can be a costly and time-consuming task, particularly when problems occur, because the sites are often operated and maintained in a silo - separate from the business infrastructure. In the United States alone, there are more than 143,000 cellular sites that need to be managed, increasing the time and money spent on maintenance. For example, technicians need to monitor a range of components that keep the network operating such as antennas, electricity and power, air conditioning and heating, and back-up batteries.

National Semiconductor's FPD-Link III SerDes Provide Industry's First Real-Time Bidirectional Control for Driver-Assist Cameras
Automotive Chipsets Deliver Video and Control Continuously Over a Single Wire Pair to Improve Driver Safety
SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 16 -- National Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE:NSM) today unveiled its FPD-Link III family of automotive-grade serializer and deserializer (SerDes) chipsets featuring the industry's first real-time, bidirectional control channel for driver-assist video cameras. The FPD-Link III chipsets improve driver safety and response time by delivering clock, data, and real-time I2C bidirectional control, continuously over a single differential pair.
Camera systems have become an important automotive safety component, typically combining multiple camera modules with advanced image analysis to help drivers monitor road conditions, detect hazards and avoid collisions. Automotive safety system designers can now use National's FPD-Link III embedded clock SerDes to connect cameras and displays to an electronic control unit (ECU) with minimal software overhead and fewer wires, reducing cost and weight.
National's DS90UB901Q serializer and DS90UB902Q deserializer are designed for automotive camera systems with 14-bit color depth. The chipset employs cyclical redundancy check (CRC) to validate and monitor data integrity and eliminates the need for an additional control wire to the camera module. Unlike alternatives that relegate control data into the blanking periods or small gaps between video frames, National's proprietary back-channel technology delivers continuous, real-time communication between several remote camera heads and the ECU. Real-time communication provides the immediate control needed to synchronize multiple sideview and rearview cameras, enabling image stitching that delivers a 'birds-eye' view to assist drivers with blind spots, lane departure, collision avoidance and parking.
National's FPD-Link III family also includes the DS90UB903Q serializer and DS90UB904Q deserializer, which support the 18-bit color depth needed for in-vehicle infotainment systems. The SerDes chipset connects the graphics host processor with central information displays, rear seat entertainment displays and navigation displays. The SerDes' integrated real-time control channel enables faster response times for touch screen displays and eliminates the need for external control cables and connectors.
Both chipsets serially route video content over distances in excess of 10 meters and support continuous pixel clock ranges from 10 MHz to 43 MHz and display resolutions up to SVGA. They are AEC-Q100 Grade-2 qualified for operation between -40 degrees C and 105 degrees C, and are powered by a 1.8V supply. They also feature a built-in self test (BIST) mode for factory test, system start up and diagnostics.
To protect adjacent circuitry from electromagnetic interference (EMI), the FPD-Link III chipsets generate a spread-spectrum clock to modulate the deserializer output to minimize harmonic peaking. The SerDes' EMI performance ensures that infotainment and driver assist high-speed data links can meet rigorous automotive requirements.

CooperVision Symposium to Showcase How Social Media Can Bolster Eye Care Practitioners' Practices
PLEASANTON, Calif., June 16 -- At the 113th Annual AOA Congress & 40th Annual AOSA Conference: Optometry's Meeting® this week in Orlando, Fla., leading contact lens manufacturer CooperVision will highlight the company's continued efforts and focus on creating a robust social media ecosystem. CooperVision is holding two symposiums at the convention. During "Integrating Social Media into Your Practice's Marketing - The Pros and Cons" on June 17 from 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. EDT and on June 18 from 4:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. EDT, CooperVision will speak to how social media can help transform practices and improve the relationships between eye care practitioners (ECPs) and their patients, and provide suggestions for how practices can get started.
CooperVision will also highlight the strides they've made to strengthen its social media presence and increase its visibility this year:
-- Over the course of six weeks, CooperVision worked with hundreds of eye
care practices to build and implement social media strategies aimed at
attracting and retaining patients. The practices had varying levels of
social media experience and executed different plans depending on the
networks already in use. Numerous social media platforms were tested,
including Facebook fan pages, Facebook advertising, Google, RSS feeds
and blogs. To date, CooperVision has worked with nearly 150 ECPs to
build Facebook fan pages. As a result, each ECP's practice saw an
increase in fans or followers - with an average of 60 fans per
practice - and increased traffic to practice Web sites. "We are
constantly looking for new ways to market our practice and better
connect with patients - particularly through social media," said Dr.
Jason Miller, who recently worked with CooperVision to build a
Facebook page. "I think Facebook is a relatively untapped market, and
practices that take the initiative to create a fan page may gain a
competitive advantage."
-- In early May, CooperVision launched Contact Sports - an education and
community outreach program that focuses on educating teens about the
relationship between healthy vision and athletic performance. A large
component of Contact Sports is http://www.MyContactSports.com, a site that
features sharable content and tools that help ECPs reach out to teens
through various social media networks. This is a key element of the
fan page program discussed above. At the practitioners' site, ECPs can
download patient e-mails, local event guides, and a social media guide
that can help them build their practice and become a resource for teen
vision correction in their communities. "Becoming involved and showing
that you are committed to your community is definitely viewed
favorably by customers," said Dr. Alan Glazier. "This is what makes
the Contact Sports program particularly appealing - it gives ECPs an
opportunity to connect with their communities and it is fully managed
