Allvoices.com Offers Health Care for Valued Journalists
Provides a Critical Benefit for Citizen Reporters and Journalists While Traditional News Industry Shrinks
SAN FRANCISCO, May 25 -- Allvoices.com, the first open media site where anyone can report from anywhere, today announced that it will provide health care options for its most active U.S. contributors. The global news hub currently supports nearly 350,000 professional and citizen journalists worldwide and pays its contributors based on how their posts perform on the site. This includes quality of post, traffic and community it generates. Allvoices firmly believes that every contributor--professional or citizen--is a reporter and thus is committed to providing the benefits necessary to support their writers. In efforts to attract and retain the best talent, Allvoices goes beyond providing a publishing platform and offers rewards and incentives to ensure the highest quality of work.
Health care for Allvoices' most active writers comes in response to the site's exponential growth at a time when the media industry has significantly shrunk, making it one of the only citizen journalism platforms that helps writers augment their living. Allvoices plans to roll out additional health options over the next year and see this as a way to extend their mission--providing reporters with the resources to create quality, vetted journalism.
"Allvoices began as a way to bring the best of world news into one place. In order to reach this goal, our writers need to be paid and know they have some protection in the event of a health crisis," said Aki Hashmi, Chief Marketing Officer of Allvoices. "We see providing health options as a step forward in the journalism industry. Open media sites are slowly emerging as sources of income for writers. This is one solution to the financial crisis facing the news industry; reporters, both citizen and professional, can now make money and have access to some health care resources."
As journalism continues to adapt to the Internet, Allvoices' efforts to provide health care is notable as it signals a shift in the news-media industry. Open media sites are responding to the needs of both citizen and professional journalists, beginning to provide writers with means required to create cogent, compelling work.
"At the root of our payment plan and now basic health care options is our commitment to journalistic excellence. Journalism is essential to a democratic society," said Hashmi. "We believe community based sites can and will play an integral role in preserving its status as 'the fourth estate'."
Allvoices' large user base gave Allvoices the leverage to secure significantly less expensive rates than typical health care plans. In order for contributors to qualify, they must commit to generating at least 15 articles per month and must achieve a score of 80 within the incentive program. Details can be found here: http://www.allvoices.com/incentive
Health options include a limited medical plan that provides fixed benefits and covers expenses like doctor visits, prescription drugs, preventive care and diagnostics.
Participation includes:
-- Access to one of the largest PPO networks in the country, provided by
the Beech Street network of providers
-- No co-pay or deductible. Contributors are covered beginning with the
first Dr.'s visit
-- Lower costs for prescriptions
-- No network restrictions. The plan covers benefits regardless of the
physician
-- Nurse Hotline. 24/7 availability for health related questions
Allvoices' mission is to create a global community for sharing news, videos, images and opinions from multiple points of view that invoke an emotional connection between individual perspectives from around the world. A community of diverse, engaged and globally minded citizens serves as news reporters, opinion leaders and publishers to share with the world the realities on-the-ground. Allvoices.com brings together context, insight and diversity of opinions around a broad range of topics and issues on the global, national and local levels. Allvoices is the largest global community offering unbiased and relevant news and perspectives in one place. With its proprietary algorithms, Allvoices utilizes professional and online news sources, blogs, images and videos to determine relevancy, foster credibility and maintain openness with each contribution made to the site. USDLA Response to FCC's Statement on Broadband Reclassification
USDLA thanks Congress for stepping in and urging the FCC to avoid classifying broadband service as telephone service.
BOSTON, May 25 -- The U.S. Distance Learning Association (USDLA) thanked Members of Congress for urging the Federal Communications Commission to avoid reclassifying broadband as a telephone service. This will have implications for consumers, particularly those who use high-speed Internet for distance learning and educational purposes.
USDLA thanks the 106 Members of Congress for their leadership in urging the Federal Communications Commission to rethink their "Third Way." Such a fundamental shift in the legal framework for broadband services will potentially lead to regulatory uncertainty and possibly deter industry investment.
Congressional engagement is needed to clarify regulatory authority over broadband internet transmission.
"Once again, we encourage the FCC to listen and work with all stakeholders engaged with internet related activity. Ensuring a fair and equitable application of all FCC rules and regulations for all constituencies should be paramount in all future debates and discussions. As evidenced during the past decade, high-speed Internet service has evolved beyond telephony, and the dizzying range of products and services available for consumers today reflects the diverse nature of broadband applications.
As we've stated in the past, the U.S. Distance Learning Association urges the Commission to carefully consider the repercussions of any regulatory framework. The course outlined in the Commission's most recent statement suggests that policies now implemented by internet content providers and distributors are seemingly not working in the public's best interest. At USDLA we have no evidence that such issues exist. Hence we urge the FCC to carefully consider any new rules and regulations. Although new action by the FCC might appear to be in the consumer and industry's best interest, it might also have the opposite impact or consequence. The internet industry needs to continuously grow in order to thrive. Promoting the entrepreneurial spirit that has accelerated this industry forward with such steady accomplishment should continue to guide FCC recommendations and decisions."
About USDLA:
The United States Distance Learning Association is a non-profit organization formed in 1987 and is located in Boston, Massachusetts. USDLA promotes the development and application of distance learning for education and training and serves the needs of the distance learning community by providing advocacy, information, networking and opportunity. Distance education and training constituencies served include pre-k-12 education, higher and continuing education, home schooling, as well as business, corporate, military, government, and telehealth markets.

Innovative State of the Art Online Game Launched to Support Upcoming Angelina Jolie Action-Thriller 'Salt'
CULVER CITY, Calif., May 25 -- In anticipation of the worldwide release of the action-thriller Salt, starring Angelina Jolie, in theaters July 23, 2010, Columbia Pictures has developed an immersive gaming experience that complements the themes and characters explored in the film, it was announced today by Dwight Caines, president, Worldwide Digital Marketing for Sony Pictures.
In the nine-week adventure, audiences take on a series of espionage-themed missions relevant to the game's original Salt-themed narrative, drawing them into a world of intrigue, espionage, and betrayal. In the game, shot on location, audiences seek to determine "Who is Salt?" by bugging suspects, tracking enemy operatives, and decrypting messages. The game experience - found at http://www.DayXExists.com - launches new missions each Tuesday until July 13th.
Commenting on the announcement, Caines said, "This game is built on a series of cliffhanger moments that enhance the moviegoing experience by allowing audiences a unique and truly fun glimpse into the movie. While the missions are serialized, it was also important to create an environment that allows players to join midstream or follow at their convenience. We believe the mystery and action that surrounds the Day X plot, which is central to the film, will keep web fans coming back to the central question - Who is Salt?"
In the Salt Day X Exists game, CIA Operative Evelyn Salt has been identified as a sleeper agent and the agency is on high alert to stop a mysterious plot called Day X. Online moviegoers play as a young CIA agent on the Day X taskforce who Salt contacts, professing her innocence and asking for help to clear her of suspicion. Every week, players view a video, in which Salt will deliver a information and tips about the ongoing investigation, and embark on a mission to uncover another layer of the larger Day X plot. The game will be translated into 12 languages and launch in the US, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Latin America, Russia, Sweden, Spain, Taiwan, and the UK. Further, its launch is supported with its own trailer on Yahoo! Movies.
The game was constructed by Hoodlum, which previously designed the Emmy-winning alternate reality games for the hit television series "Lost." "Hoodlum is one of the companies that has set the bar for what an immersive game can be," said Caines. "They brought high production value to the videos and a creative genius to the missions that will keep this nine-week adventure fresh and fun."
Players will be able to track their progress in the game via a specially constructed online Dashboard, the game's central homepage. Players can skip a weekly mission if they choose or replay any part of the available missions in any order. The game also teams with Sony Electronics to feature some of the latest gear that any modern day spy would need to be successful, including the Sony Dash(TM) Personal Internet Viewer, the Sony Reader Touch Edition, Sony (alpha) DSLR-A850 camera, and other products.
Angelina Jolie stars in Salt, a contemporary action thriller from Columbia Pictures. As a CIA officer, Evelyn Salt (Jolie) swore an oath to duty, honor and country. Her loyalty will be tested when a defector accuses her of being a Russian spy. Salt goes on the run, using all her skills and years of experience as a covert operative to elude capture. Salt's efforts to prove her innocence only serve to cast doubt on her motives, as the hunt to uncover the truth behind her identity continues and the question remains: "Who Is Salt?"
Salt is directed by Phillip Noyce and written by Kurt Wimmer. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Sunil Perkash produce.

Hanvon E-book Store Mode is Recognized, and N618 Wins the New Media Award at Australia CeBIT
SYDNEY, May 25 -- The Australia CeBIT Exhibition brings together many guests on May 25 as the award ceremonies for eight awards, including the Excellent New Media Award, Business Advantage Award and Excellent Technology Service Award. The Hanvon N618 e-book reader, representing the leading technology in the electronic reader industry, stands out from over 60 products with its outstanding technology advantages and content services, won the Excellent New Media Award.
Australia CeBIT is the leading information and communication technologies exhibition in the world, and is also one of the global series exhibitions of the renowned Hanover CeBIT expo. As the most influential electronic technology products exhibition in the Southern hemisphere, Australia CeBIT has attracted much attention from the industry since its inception in 2002, and the number of professional attendees exceeded 150,000 in 2009.
According to the organizer, an entry for the Excellent New Media Award can be an end product, a service platform or a company that provides an innovative product or contents. The Hanvon e-book reader N618 was recognized by the judges for embodying an all-new media form as it presents digital books and newspaper to readers conveniently through a combination of the product itself and content services through the Hanvon E-book Store.
As an all-new business model, the Hanvon wireless e-book store that interfaces with Hanvon e-book readers has achieved initial success in its operations in China. The e-book readers can be connected to Hanvon E-book Store through WiFi, so users can download a large number of books for free, or only pay a few yuan for one book for some popular ones. In addition, the Hanvon Wireless E-book Store also offers free downloading of newspapers and magazines, so that readers can read dozens of articles from national and local newspapers as soon as possible. Some time ago, a popular book was downloaded over 300 times in one day, which reflects the success of the business mode. The Hanvon e-book reader is no longer a single-product concept, but an all-new and convenient media form for cultural communication.
As a leading enterprise in the Chinese electronic reader industry, Hanvon has developed a service mode that has a promising future. It signed an agreement with the China Written Works Copyright Society on May 10 to further enhance its content resources, and there are nearly 30,000 book categories in the E-book Store. In terms of media, over 40 newspapers and 120 magazines, including Jinghua Times and Global Times, have signed strategic partnership agreements with Hanvon, and the numbers still keep increasing.
Hanvon has performed well and impressed people deeply on the international stage, from the America CES in January, to the Hanover CeBIT in March, to Australia CeBIT where it won the Excellent New Media Award. Hanvon will develop a more intelligent screen form based on the e-book reader product, i.e. "the forth screen" product that is a mobile, a computer and a TV all in one. The product is user-friendly and interactive, and will facilitate an innovative application experience enabling the user to access information, entertainment and communication.

CameraRenter Launches Interactive Online Photo Sharing Service
Seattle Photography Start-up Changes Online Photo Sharing For Consumers
SEATTLE, May 25 -- CameraRenter, a Seattle startup, announced today the launch of the first interactive online photo sharing service, giving consumers the power to eliminate the costly and time consuming aspects of professional photographers. Instead of the traditional professional photography methods, CameraRenter ships out a box containing everything needed to capture and share any event at the same cost as disposable cameras and at about a tenth of the cost of a professional photographer.
"Capturing those unforgettable moments at an important event is almost impossible," said Jonathan Bailor, Co-founder of CameraRenter. "We all have digital cameras, but more often than not, consumers don't share the experiences they have because it's too costly and takes more time than it's worth. We realized that sharing photos online could be made easy and fun if people were given the option of letting CameraRenter digitize their memories."
How CameraRenter works:
1. The camera package arrives from CameraRenter. The party gives the
digital cameras to their closest friends and family so that they
capture the entire event.
2. Just stick the cameras back in the prepaid mailing case they came in,
and CameraRenter takes care of everything else.
3. One week after CameraRenter gets the digital cameras they'll have the
personalized photo and video sharing website produced.
Each of the digital cameras takes over 200 high-quality pictures, over 10 minutes of video, comes with back-up batteries and has simple instructions attached. Unlike traditional online photography options that force consumers to do all the work, CameraRenter users get a documentary of the entire event, captured by the most important people in their lives.
About CameraRenter
CameraRenter was founded by Michael Cartwright and Jonathan Bailor to provide a more reliable, modern, affordable and eco-friendly solution other than using professional photographers at weddings and other major life events. Gigle Networks HomePlug(R) AV and Mediaxtream(TM) Chipset Selected by Aztech to Create Asia's First Gigabit Powerline Adapter
Combination of GGL541 Gigabit Intelligent Multi-PHY Switch with Mediaxtream(TM) Technology Delivers 1Gbps Performance for Whole-Home Video Streaming
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., BARCELONA, Spain and EDINBURGH, Scotland, May 25
-- Gigle Networks, the leading developer of intelligent multi-PHY switching devices for both wired and wireless entertainment grade home networking, today announced that Aztech Electronics Pte Ltd ("Aztech") has selected the Gigle Networks HomePlug® AV chipset and Mediaxtream(TM) technology to create Asia's first gigabit powerline adapter. Aztech is Singapore's leading design and manufacturing company for electronics and communications equipment.
The Aztech HL280E Mediaxtream/HomePlug AV Ethernet adapter is based on Gigle Networks' GGL541 chipset, which delivers industry-leading 1Gbps data rates over a home's existing AC powerlines using Gigle Networks' Mediaxtream(TM) technology, and simultaneously supports 200Mbps performance using industry-standard HomePlug® AV technology. Aztech's HL280E adapter can be used to quickly and easily connect home gateways, game consoles, media players, PCs, IPTV set-top boxes and other devices in ultra-fast networks that stream high-bandwidth content five times faster than networks using other powerline networking chipsets. Setup is accomplished by simply plugging the adapter into a home's powerline wall socket, and requires no new wiring, cabling or special configuration software or installation expertise.
"As the leading brand for powerline devices, we are pleased to be the first in Asia to introduce a Gigabit powerline adapter that meets the demand for lightning-fast connections, multiple-channel streaming and latency-free gaming," said Michael Mun, CEO & Chairman of Aztech Group. "With our expanded HomePlug service range, users can look forward to enhance their home networking and entertainment experience."
"We are very pleased to have collaborated with Aztech Electronics on Asia's first Gigabit powerline solution that also supports the industry-standard HomePlug® AV specifications," said Tom Foster, vice president of sales with Gigle Networks. "The combination of Gigle Networks' advanced technology with Aztech's solid reputation for quality and performance makes this a truly exciting solution for a wide array of consumer and service provider applications."
The Aztech HL280E adapter with Gigle Networks' GGL541 chipset and Mediaxtream(TM) technology is compatible with any brand of broadband router or modem gateway and backward-compatible with existing 200Mbps HomePlug(TM) AV products. It is also IPTV-ready, HD-ready and Network Attached Storage (NAS)-ready.
Gigle's fully integrated GGL541 device includes physical-layer (PHY), media access control (MAC) and Smart Mesh home/Quality-of-Service (QoS)/Class-of-Service (CoS) switching capabilities. It eliminates any external memory or complex support circuitry, and also meets European 2011 Code of Conduct requirements for adapters and QoS, which is important for video distribution around the home. Gigle Networks' products are the only powerline networking solutions that operate from a single voltage supply and feature dual MII ports allowing for efficient interfacing to additional network processors. They also support Gigle Networks' Xtendnet(TM) intelligent switching technology, which amplifies and re-times signals on the powerline for improved network coverage. They also meet the active and standby power requirements for adapters of the Energy using Products Directive (EuP) Lot 6.
About Gigle Networks: Plug into the Fun

National Instruments Introduces High-Performance PXI Express Data Acquisition With Integrated Signal Conditioning
Strain, Thermocouple and High-Voltage Analog Input Modules Offer Increased Accuracy for High-Channel-Count Measurement Systems
AUSTIN, Texas, May 25, 2010 -- National Instruments (NASDAQ:NATI) today announced the company's first data acquisition (DAQ) modules with integrated signal conditioning for scalable, high-performance measurements on PXI Express. The new NI SC Express family delivers increased accuracy, high data throughput and best-in-class synchronization for measuring strain gauges, bridge-based transducers, thermocouples and high-voltage analog inputs. PXI Express provides 250 MB/s of dedicated bandwidth for each SC Express module in the chassis, which helps engineers increase channel count without compromising sampling rates or data throughput. With a smaller footprint, simplified cable management and new software features for automatic synchronization, the SC Express modules make it easy for engineers to set up and program high-channel-count sensor measurement systems.
The NI PXIe-4330 24-bit simultaneous bridge input module offers 0.02 percent accuracy and 25 kS/s per channel sample rate for high-performance strain, load, force and torque measurements. The bridge input module achieves high accuracy with a ratiometric design where the ADC references the excitation voltage. This approach removes the measurement's dependence on the stability and accuracy of the excitation voltage. In addition, unique delta-sigma ADCs provide both excellent AC performance as well as DC accuracy, while traditional delta-sigma ADCs only offer AC performance.
The NI PXIe-4330 bridge input module can perform quarter, half and full bridge-based measurements with automatic synchronization features. The included driver software ensures tight synchronization across multiple modules and chassis with inter-channel skews as low as 5 ppb. The 8-channel bridge input module can scale to a 136-channel system in a single chassis and thousands of channels when synchronizing across multiple chassis. The high-accuracy, simultaneity and synchronization features make the NI PXIe-4330 module ideal for high-channel-count structural test applications, such as wind tunnels, bridge monitoring and crash tests.
With the NI PXIe-4353 thermocouple module, engineers can measure temperatures with 0.30 degrees C accuracy on 32 channels. The isothermal terminal block minimizes error with a unique design that optimizes thermal conductivity, making it possible for the nearby cold-junction compensation (CJC) thermistors to accurately measure at the thermocouple junctions. The 32-channel thermocouple module can scale to a 544-channel system in a single chassis and thousands of channels when synchronizing across multiple chassis. The increased accuracy and scalable platform make the NI PXIe-4353 module well-suited for precision measurements from a single channel to large systems for applications such as fuel cell testing and monitoring thermal chambers.
The NI PXIe-4300 high-voltage isolated analog input module is the first analog input module from National Instruments that can measure up to 300 V with simultaneous sampling. With a 16-bit ADC per channel and a 250 kS/s per channel sampling rate, the NI PXIe-4300 module can stream 4 MB/s per module and 68 MB/s in a single chassis. This 8-channel analog input module can scale to a 136-channel system in a single chassis and thousands of channels when synchronizing across multiple chassis. The ability to measure 300 V with CAT II channel-to-channel isolation makes the NI PXIe-4300 module ideal for automotive testing, such as fuel cell and battery tests.
The new SC Express modules include NI-DAQmx driver software and support for multi-device tasks, a new feature of NI-DAQmx that helps engineers easily synchronize multiple modules. The same code that acquires data from one module can synchronize up to 17 modules in a chassis. The modules work with a variety of NI hardware including NI X Series, dynamic signal acquisition (DSA) and NI SCXI products, and more than 1,500 types of I/O available on the PXI platform. The new modules also integrate with NI software including NI LabVIEW and the LabVIEW Real-Time Module, NI-Sync and NI DIAdem.

Honeywell Gives the Home and Business Security System a Makeover Using Popular Mobile Devices
Latest Security Technology Helps Consumers, Homes and Businesses Stay Protected Using Products Including Apple's iPhone and iPad and RIM's BlackBerry
MELVILLE, N.Y., May 25 -- Honeywell (NYSE:HON), one of the world's longest-running providers of security technology, is helping consumers give their home and business security systems modern-day makeovers using some of today's most popular mobile devices.
The company's Total Connect communications service - which consumers use to remotely control their security systems from Web-enabled devices such as laptop PCs and smart phones - now provides streaming video services that allow consumers to view live video of their homes and businesses. The system notifies customers via email of security incidents such as attempted break-ins, and non-emergency events such as a child returning home from school. Consumers can then access the video from a laptop or handheld mobile device. In addition, they can remotely pan and tilt cameras, manually record video clips, or even take snapshots.
Total Connect technology is professionally installed by security dealers across the United States and Canada. Total Connect customers who own an Apple iPhone, an iPod Touch and the newly released iPad can add the functionality to these devices through Apple's iTunes App Store. These video capabilities are also available for the BlackBerry and other popular devices, including more than 100 other types of cell phones and PDAs.
"Adding these new smart video capabilities to Total Connect provides that additional peace of mind for the home or business owner who is constantly on the go," said Gordon Hope, general manager of Honeywell's AlarmNet communications network. "And it's not only about security. Consumers can check in on their kids, babysitters, employees or elderly relatives who might need special care."
Among Total Connect's new video features is the ability to detect movement in specific areas using new Honeywell IP cameras with built-in motion detection. The system can be programmed, for example, to detect motion in a certain area such as a front door step and use email to alert the homeowner, who can then view the camera images remotely from a mobile device - even if he/she is out of town or out of the country.
For business owners or homeowners with multiple cameras, the system allows them to view all cameras on a single screen, or one at a time. Store owners with multiple locations or homeowners with more than one property can manage and view all locations over a secure network with a single login - a time-saving option for both business owners and homeowners with vacation homes and investment properties. "By utilizing some of today's most-popular consumer devices, Total Connect can make security an easier part of our everyday lives," Hope said.
Honeywell's Total Connect digital communications service has attracted consumers and businesses alike for its ability to allow people to perform tasks such as arming or disarming their security systems using Web-enabled devices or traditional PCs. In addition to security events, the system can also alert users to environmental events such as basement flooding, a power failure or extreme temperature change that can lead to damage such as frozen pipes. Toshiba America Electronic Components to Showcase 3D and Other Innovative LCD Technologies at SID
Advanced 3D display technologies to be featured, as well as LTPS, OCB, and Screen Fit technologies
SEATTLE, May 25 -- Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC)*, a committed industry leader that collaborates with customers to create breakthrough designs, will exhibit next-generation displays and technologies developed by Toshiba Mobile Display Co., Ltd. (TMD)** for industrial markets, mobile phone and portable electronics, and automotive applications in booth #631 at the 2010 Society for Information Display (SID) International Symposium, Seminar & Exhibition, May 25 to 27, 2010.
Featured developments in TAEC's booth this year include three different 3D technology demonstrations, new displays for high-resolution handheld mobile applications, recently introduced industrial LCD displays with replaceable LED backlights achieving 100,000 hours MTBF(1), and new high-resolution automotive displays. Displays with Optically Compensated Bend (OCB), Low Temperature Poly-Silicon (LTPS), System-on-Glass (SOG), LED backlighting, and other advanced technologies can be viewed in four demonstration areas: industrial, mobile, automotive, and 3D technology.
"We are excited to exhibit several new and innovative products and technologies aimed at mobile, automotive, and industrial applications. Our advanced technologies, such as our various approaches to 3D, will enable future growth in new markets and applications," said Clayton Bond, senior vice president, Display Devices and Components Business Unit for TAEC.
3D Technology
TAEC will demonstrate three separate 3D technologies. The first approach, Time Sequential Twin-Eye, will be shown on a 3.0-inch Wide-QVGA (400 x 240) 3D OCB display utilizing a backlight system incorporating a bi-directional lens sheet. This display synchronizes LED switching with left- and right-eye images to achieve stereoscopic (twin-eye 3D) viewing without special glasses while maintaining a fast response time, and a wide viewing angle. This approach is 2D/3D switchable, and enables a thin, easy to assemble LCD panel utilizing its full native resolution without compromise. The second approach, Integral Imaging 3D, uses a lenticular sheet to enable "Multi-view" natural viewing without 3D glasses, so the same image can be seen from multiple viewing points. Integral Imaging will be shown in a 21.0-inch Wide-XGA (1280 x 800) technology demonstration. A third approach, which uses OCB glasses with time sequential 3D displays to achieve fast response with minimal crosstalk, will be shown in 15.4-inch Wide-XGA (1280 x 800) and 32-inch Wide-XGA (1366 x 768) sizes. This 3D technique alternately displays the appropriate image for each eye while the OCB glasses act as an alternating shutter to achieve a 3D effect without any loss of resolution between the LCD and the image.
Displays for Industrial Applications
Long-Life LED Backlight Industrial LCD Modules
A lineup of recently introduced color LTPS active-matrix thin-film transistor (TFT) LCD modules for industrial applications will be shown, which incorporate 100,000 hour MTBF LED backlighting systems designed to satisfy the requirements of a broad range of industrial applications, such as test and measurement equipment, medical equipment, and more. The demonstration includes LCD modules in five screen sizes: 5.7-inch, 6.5-inch, 8.4-inch, 10.4-inch, and 12.1-inch.
Display resolutions are VGA (640 x 480) for the 5.7-inch module and the 6.5-inch module, SVGA (800 x 600) for the 8.4-inch module, and XGA (1024 x 768) for the 10.4-inch and 12.1-inch modules. Each of these modules have replaceable, mercury-free(2) LED-based backlighting systems with 100,000 hour MTBF, which far exceeds that of common TFT LCDs for industrial applications utilizing long-life cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) backlights.
Resistive Touch Panels and Wide Viewing Angle Industrial Modules
Additional modules representing TAEC's diverse industrial LCD line include three 100,000 hour MTBF modules with resistive touch panels: 8.4-inch SVGA (800 x 600), 8.4-inch XGA (1024 x 768), and 10.4-inch XGA (1024 x 768) LCD panels, with replaceable LED backlights rated for 100,000 hours MTBF.
"Screen Fit" Technology
TMD will again show its "Screen Fit" optical bonding transparent cover panel technology this year, demonstrating its potential for industrial applications. Screen Fit significantly reduces reflections from the inner surface of the cover panel as well as the reflections from the surface of the LCD panel, utilizing a special resin injected between the cover panel and the polarizer film of the LCD panel, fusing the two together. The resin assures optical integrity between the two materials, minimizes interface reflections and strengthens the module structure. Compared to a conventional LCD design, in which the top polarizer film layer of the display is protected by an acrylic cover panel encasing the hollow space between the cover and the display, a Screen Fit LCD enhances the display's optical characteristics by eliminating two boundaries that reflect and scatter light, reducing reflections. The exhibit shows a 12.1-inch Wide-XGA (1280 x 800) Screen Fit display adjacent to a conventional TN display of the same resolution and form factor to demonstrate the improvements in image quality.
Displays for Mobile Phones and Portable Electronics
The mobile section of the booth will feature high-resolution LTPS displays, up to 367ppi (pixels per inch resolution density), in sizes ranging from 3.3-inch to 4.0-inch with resolution formats ranging from Wide-VGA (480 x 864) to HD (720 x 1280). In addition, these displays will demonstrate advanced technologies such as high-contrast (up to 1,500:1), high-color (up to 92% NTSC), and wide viewing angle (up to H/V 176 degrees /176 degrees). The displays are just a few representative examples of TMD's broad line of thin and light displays for mobile phones, handheld GPS, portable media players and other portable electronic devices.
Displays for Automotive Applications

"The Samsung Rugby II offers our customers a sturdy phone that can withstand some of the roughest environments," said Michael Woodward, vice president, Mobile Phone Portfolio, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. "This is a no-nonsense, durable device with easy-to-use features like Push-to-Talk and a one-touch button to keep you in touch with your contacts while backed by the nation's fastest 3G network."

Management Reporter, formerly codenamed Management Reporter 2.0, will act as the replacement for Microsoft FRx, a comprehensive financial reporting and analysis application available to Microsoft Dynamics ERP customers.
"This is the first step in a multiyear roadmap to deliver broader corporate performance management capabilities across our Microsoft Dynamics ERP solutions," said Crispin Read, general manager of Microsoft Dynamics ERP at Microsoft. "Management Reporter retains many elements of the Microsoft FRx product but is built on a completely updated architecture that will provide a new level of scalability and reliability for customers."

-- Strong data integrity and report accuracy. Management Reporter

accounting practices and international financial reporting standards.
"Management Reporter is like Microsoft FRx on steroids -- it takes the familiar building blocks of Microsoft FRx and revolutionizes the way reporting and business intelligence can be delivered," said Les Wright, senior consultant, BDO Canada LLP, a Microsoft Dynamics partner. "This is something customers have been asking for and provides even more value to their Microsoft Dynamics ERP solutions."

Magellan Creates a Line of GPS Navigators for Use Every Day
The 2010 Magellan RoadMate line is designed to help get you to new and familiar destinations quicker
SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 25 -- Magellan today announced the latest generation of the RoadMate series of portable vehicle navigation devices. The new series includes models in a variety of screen sizes and feature sets to meet any consumer navigation needs. At its core, the new line is designed to bring daily relevance to the GPS navigator by helping consumers get to new and familiar places quicker.
Now, Magellan's new 2010 RoadMate navigators all come with integrated Free Lifetime Live Traffic. This service, which is provided to Magellan customers, keeps the Magellan RoadMate apprised of any traffic conditions that may delay the drive and calculates route options for the driver to choose from. Magellan has overhauled the traffic interface to provide a higher level of control and now additionally focuses on flow reporting which detects traffic congestion and not just reported accidents. The GPS navigator's primary benefit is no longer only to direct drivers to new places. Now, the Magellan RoadMate also gets you to places you may know well but gets you there quicker.
The 2010 Magellan RoadMate line maintains the comprehensive features consumers have come to expect. The entire RoadMate lineup boasts the exclusive OneTouch personalization feature allowing you to save favorite places, categories and searches. All models also feature spoken street names, 6 million points of interest, QuickSpell for error-free address entry and multi-destination routing. Each of the 2010 RoadMates come with specialized parking features such as the Automatic Parking Lot Finder which identifies local parking lots once you arrive at your destination. Then, with the Find Your Car feature, records the location of your car and directs you to it. - handy when locating your car in large parking lots.
The series includes many models with a wide variety of features so you can pick the device most suited to your driving needs. Most models at no extra charge, include the AAA Tourbook which is exclusive to Magellan. With AAA's famous Tourbook integrated in your Magellan navigator, restaurant and hotel research is easier than ever. Highway Lane Assist gives you clear visual guidance of which lane you should start heading towards for your next maneuver. No more missing your exit because you're in the wrong lane. Bluetooth models give you the convenience and safety of hands-free talking when used with a Bluetooth enabled phone. You can find these features on screen sizes ranging from 4.3" to 4.7" to 5" for the viewing experience you desire.
Some models are also available with "free" future map upgrades to ensure that your Magellan RoadMate stays up to date. If you'd like even more security, The Magellan RoadMate 3045-LM comes with a lifetime upgrade option in which you are able to upgrade your maps four times a year for the life of the product at no additional charge!
The ultimate navigator is found in the top-of-the-line Magellan RoadMate 3065 Commuter which is designed with added features to help you get through your daily commute. It has the same subscription-free live traffic service shared by the rest of the 2010 family but the Commuter goes a step further. The Commuter adds the innovative new Traffic Wake-up function which automatically powers on the GPS device and has your real-time traffic updates ready when you need them.
"The traffic system that all GPS units use must prioritize which traffic condition data to send. Unfortunately, that means your standard traffic GPS may not have the full picture when it is first turned on," said Mike Wagner, Senior Director of Product Marketing for Magellan. "Magellan recognized the challenge this posed to commuters and developed the only GPS navigator with the Traffic Wake-up feature. Two times a day the Magellan RoadMate 3065 Commuter will wake itself up 30 minutes before your pre-determined commute starts and begins gathering traffic information. By the time you slide behind the wheel, your 3065 Commuter is loaded with the optimal route for the day's commute."
Another customized Commuter feature is Periodic Reporting, which provides detailed information to track mileage for business use for expense reports and tax purposes. This allows a user to track their mileage and use this information for business expense reports and year end tax filing, all with a touch of a button.
2010 RoadMate Line-up
All new 2010 RoadMate models include Free Lifetime Live Traffic, OneTouch, spoken street names, QuickSpell, Multi-destination Routing, 6 million POIs, Highway Exit POIs, Find Your Car, Parking Lot Finder and more.

NVerzion's Elite Delivery for Pitch Blue Answers the Content Delivery Question
A collection of three software tools maximizes stations' use of the Pitch Blue program delivery system providing greater work flow efficiency.
SALT LAKE CITY, May 25 -- Improving work flow efficiency for Pitch Blue users, NVerzion, a 20-year provider of automation control, monitoring and integrated storage management solutions, announced today the release of Elite Delivery, a complete hardware and software solution enabling stations to easily and economically maximize their use of the industry's newest standard in program delivery systems.
Pitch Blue, a new cache server developed by CBS, Warner Brothers and Ascent Media, provides a delivery platform for high-definition syndicated content. The solution records satellite feeds as either SD-MPEG2 or HD MPEG4 H.264 files and incorporates valuable metadata describing the video, as well as where each segment begins and ends.
"The problem is," explains Scott Murphy, President and CEO of NVerzion, "none of the major server manufacturers support the MPEG4 transport stream, and consequently, we have not proven that stations can play the Pitch Blue captured content on any of the major video servers. Therefore, the customer at the station level must choose between either dubbing the material from the Pitch Blue solution to their server, or they must transcode the content. Both are time-consuming, costly, and can even result in lost or inaccurate metadata."
To speed content delivery and salvage the metadata, NVerzion's Elite Delivery combines three software applications and the hardware necessary for stations to take full advantage of all of the features of their Pitch Blue. Although completely automation agnostic and fully capable of working side by side with existing automation, Elite Delivery includes NVerzion's NControl Automation, ensuring a complete solution. In addition to the necessary hardware, the standard Elite Delivery includes:
Pitch Delivery: Moves Pitch Blue-recorded video from the Pitch Blue to a configurable destination (server, archive or transcoder). Pitch Delivery also moves all captured metadata to the automation folder for increased efficiency of the customer's work flow.
NGest Delivery: Allows stations to control their Pitch Blue output and server encoder to accurately move the video while maintaining vital metadata segment points. In addition, NGest can build a dub list to create individual files of the segments.
NControl Delivery: Can be used to play to air directly from the Pitch Blue when there are no other options. Uses the metadata to find and play individual segments.
Created with the tools stations need to utilize the Pitch Blue to its maximum potential, NVerzion's Elite Delivery users can expand their solution to include expanded hardware and Rhozet's acclaimed transcoding software as a fully integrated transcoding solution. Elite Delivery software and hardware including a standard 2RU computer with two 422 ports is available for $7,995. Elite Delivery plus Rhozet Software and advanced rack mount processing hardware is available for $17,995.
