Data Capture Infrastructure From Datacom Systems Provides Purpose-Built Network for VoIP Monitoring
Leveraging Key Capabilities - Tapping, Aggregating, Regenerating, and Filtering - Across a Wide Suite of Products, Datacom Enables VoIP Analysis Tools to Operate More Efficiently
ORLANDO, Fla., March 22 -- GAYLORD PALMS RESORT & CONVENTION CENTER / BOOTH 1236 -- Datacom Systems, Inc., a manufacturer of data capture infrastructure, announced today at VoiceCon Orlando that it is showcasing its VoIP solutions, which provide a secure, reliable, and scalable platform to support VoIP monitoring and recording applications.
"As VoIP has matured and become more mainstream, the need to monitor the performance has grown," said Chris Koeneman, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Datacom Systems. "Unfortunately most customers rely on SPAN ports to provide the basis of their analysis. While SPAN ports were adequate when VoIP deployments were modest and experimental, SPAN ports are not suitable for most VoIP deployments today. Datacom Systems' data capture infrastructure, by contrast, offers a flexible and purpose-built architecture that efficiently connects any and all VoIP monitoring tools to the network."
Datacom Systems traffic capture solutions enable all kinds of VoIP monitoring tools - packet analyzers, performance monitors, and call recording devices - to receive exactly the traffic they need to perform their tasks. The economic advantage of VoIP is its ability to ride over a shared network. But this presents a challenge for monitoring because tools work most efficiently when they are analyzing only the relevant traffic for that tool. By using Datacom Systems' filtering capabilities, analysis tools operate more efficiently because the VoIP traffic can be isolated at line rate before it hits the analysis tool.
Leading VoIP Companies Go With DataCom
Value added resellers who focus on VoIP are realizing the importance of implementing a purpose-built network for VoIP monitoring. With a broad set of products and cost-effective filtering at both 1Gbps and 10Gbps, Datacom is the ideal choice.
"Our customers are increasingly relying on Voice over IP," said Howard Kim, Managing Director of Teledata, a leading solutions provider of VoIP. "This reliance calls for more sophisticated network monitoring and performance analysis. Teledata selected Datacom Systems to provide the data capture infrastructure for our customers who are deploying VoIP."
Limitations of Span Ports
Many network engineers are faced with SPAN ports as their only option for VoIP monitoring and this option usually falls short. First, most switches have only one or two SPAN ports available for a multitude of monitoring needs. Compounding the issue, there are many points on the network where voice and data are traveling together; the SPAN ports at these key locations are the cause of serious departmental contention for very limited resources.
Even when a SPAN port is available, it is often used at least a portion of the time for troubleshooting. SPAN ports also need to be configured, which can be a difficult. A misconfiguration can result in problems ranging from not getting all the data that is required, to catastrophic network failure. Finally, switches aren't meant to direct SPAN traffic as their primary function - so if traffic is heavy, switches can experience degraded performance and can drop packets, causing quality of service issues for the entire organization.
Reliable VoIP Recording
Datacom Systems can overcome the difficulties of call recording in a VoIP infrastructure. Oftentimes the most difficult task is ensuring the necessary voice traffic reaches the correct call recorder. Datacom Systems traffic capture devices, including the SINGLEstream(TM) Link Aggregation Tap and VERSAstream(TM) 10-Port Data Access Switch, can direct and filter network traffic through a choice of Aggregation (many-to-any), Regeneration (any-to-many) and Port Steering (any-to-any) connectivity options.
During VoiceCon Orlando 2010, March 22-24, Datacom Systems is displaying its VoIP network traffic capture devices from its exhibit at Booth 1236 in the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center. To learn more, visit the display or Datacom Systems' company web site at http://www.datacomsystems.com.

Feature-Rich T4 ASIC Offloads TOE, FCoE, iSCSI, iWARP To Enable Converged Networks Over Single Unified Wire
SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 22 -- Chelsio Communications, Inc., the leading provider of 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) adapters, ASICs, and storage solutions, today announced its fourth generation high performance 10Gb Ethernet silicon technology. The Terminator is Chelsio's flagship architecture, an industry-proven, protocol-rich 10Gb ASIC that has secured more than 100 OEM platform wins and is widely deployed with more than 100,000 ports worldwide.
Targeted at LAN-on-motherboard (LOM) design opportunities, the Terminator 4 (T4) is a highly integrated, highly virtualized 10GbE controller built around a programmable protocol-processing engine. T4 includes Chelsio's fourth-generation TCP offload (TOE) design, third generation iSCSI design, and second-generation iWARP (RDMA) implementation. In addition to full TCP and iSCSI offload, the T4 also supports full Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) offload.
The T4 is the industry's first single-chip solution to concurrently support TOE, iSCSI, FCoE and iWARP offload. Ideal for all high performance clustering applications, storage networks and data networks, the T4 enables the unified wire by simultaneously allowing unmodified IP traffic, InfiniBand and Fibre Channel applications to run over Ethernet at wire speed.
"The Terminator 4 is an impressive ASIC, capable of offloading network, storage and clustering protocols while also including key virtualization features," said Bob Wheeler, senior analyst at The Linley Group. "The convergence of network traffic around 10Gb Ethernet is happening now and the availability of a universal 10GbE controller like the Terminator should help accelerate this trend."
T4 Architectural Features
The T4 is a 10GbE controller built around a programmable protocol-processing engine. Much of the processing of the offloaded protocols is implemented in microcode running on a pipe-lined VLIW engine. To minimize latency, the pipeline supports simultaneous cut-through operation for both transmit and receive paths. This processing architecture also provides for wire-speed operation at small packet size and regardless of the number of TCP connections.
For server connections, the T4 integrates a PCI Express v2.0 x8 host interface, and with support for the 5Gbps Gen2 data rate, the PCIe interface provides up to 32Gbps of bandwidth to the server. The T4 also adds support for PCIe I/O virtualization.
On the network side, the T4 integrates four Ethernet ports that support GbE as well as 10GbE operation. With embedded 10GbE serdes, all four ports provide direct support for 10GBASE-KR and two ports support the four-lane 10GBASE-CX4/KX4 interfaces. For GbE operation, all four ports offer a choice of SGMII or 1000BASE-KX.
Most of the internal blocks are enhanced versions of the current T3 ASIC, including stateless offloads, packet filtering/firewall offload and traffic shaping/media streaming. The T4 has added an embedded 132 port switch, which is important to virtualized servers. The T4 also has an integrated TCAM and large DRAM buffer on chip, enabling memory-free designs with full performance and features.
Enabling Virtualized Servers, Storage, and HPC
Virtualization is driving large increases in server utilization, which means fewer CPU cycles are available for I/O processing. The embedded switch capability of the T4 enables performance advantages for virtualized environments, supporting up to 128 virtual machines within a single physical server. The T4 supports PCIe single-root I/O virtualization (SR-IOV) and the newest protocols for virtual networking, enabling state-of-the-art virtualization design.
Broadening its support for block storage, Chelsio's T4 adds support for both partial and full offload of the FCoE protocol in addition to full iSCSI offload. To enable lossless transport of FCoE traffic, the T4 supports Priority-based Flow Control (PFC), Enhanced Transmission Selection (ETS) and the Data Center Bridging (DCB) exchange protocol. By simultaneously supporting TOE, iSCSI and FCoE, the T4 enables unified NAS/SAN systems that adapt to and grow with end-customer needs.
For HPC cluster applications, the T4 reduces RDMA latency from about six microseconds in the T3 to two microseconds, which is expected to provide the same or better application performance as InfiniBand. Chelsio has also added UDP-offload features to T4 and expects to deliver two microsecond end-to-end latency for UDP packets.
"The networks are converging around 10Gb Ethernet for a number of reasons, and the day is coming when enterprise data center network and storage traffic will be sharing a common infrastructure," said Kianoosh Naghshineh, president and CEO. "Our fourth generation technology is unmatched in the industry, and our OEM partners understand that offloading protocols such as iWARP and iSCSI requires a reliable, tested TCP engine."
Pricing and Availability
Designed in 65nm CMOS process technology and packaged in a 27x27mm, 672-pin FCBGA, the T4 dissipates about 7-10W of power depending on configuration. T4 will be available for customer sampling in Q2. For pricing, contact Chelsio Communications at 408-962-3600, or visit the company at http://www.chelsio.com.

Verizon Wireless Plans eCommerce Mobile Payment Service
Coming This Spring, Customers Can Choose to Bill Online Digital Purchases to their Wireless Accounts Using BilltoMobile(TM) from Danal
BASKING RIDGE, N.J., SEOUL, Korea, and SAN JOSE, Calif., March 22
-- Verizon Wireless and Danal, Inc., the global pioneer and leader in charging eCommerce transactions directly to mobile phone accounts, said today that Verizon Wireless plans to launch Danal's BilltoMobile(TM) payment service later this spring, enabling Verizon Wireless customers to charge online purchases of digital goods directly to their monthly Verizon Wireless bills.
Verizon Wireless customers will be able to pay for online content and digital goods that are downloaded and consumed on their personal computers from Danal's participating network of popular eCommerce merchant partners. A secure connection and integration between Verizon Wireless and Danal will provide features important to online consumers and merchants, including robust subscriber authentication and fraud protection, among others.
The mobile payment service will feature a $25-per-month spending limit for these purchases, along with content and parental controls for individual accounts, giving account owners the ability to manage their BilltoMobile usage. When available, customers with text messaging-enabled phones will be able to shop quickly, securely and conveniently for Verizon Wireless-approved content at online stores, including game sites, social networks and virtual worlds. Users will also be able to purchase subscriptions to popular online games.
"Verizon Wireless strives to bring its customers services and features they want and that make their lives simpler," said Ryan Hughes, vice president of business development at Verizon Wireless. "Working with Danal will give our customers the opportunity to make direct online mobile payments with the most secure, feature-rich, convenient method available."
"Verizon Wireless is combining the convenience of the mobile phone and its strong billing platform to provide their customers with a convenient mobile payment option," remarked Jim Greenwell, chief executive officer of Danal, Inc. in the United States. "Verizon Wireless is the bellwether service provider in this space, and we see this agreement will likely be the beginning of a change in the industry's approach to online mobile payments -- one that involves ease of use and strong security for subscribers' mobile payments, as well as robust user controls that will help individual subscribers and families manage their digital purchases and digital lives."
The BilltoMobile payment service is simple for consumers. To conduct a transaction, consumers click on the BilltoMobile button during checkout at a participating online Web site and then input their mobile numbers and mobile billing zip codes for subscriber authentication. A text message is then sent to consumers' mobile phones with a one-time passcode. Once consumers input this passcode into the online checkout window, the transaction is completed. The entire process takes about 15 seconds, and there is no pre-registration or links to credit cards or bank accounts required. In Korea, where Danal is the dominant mobile payments provider -- and where credit card penetration rates are even higher than in the United States -- 80 percent of all mobile subscribers have chosen to use direct mobile billing, and up to 60 percent of all online digital content purchases in Korea are now billed directly to mobile accounts.
BilltoMobile is now partnering with prominent online merchants in the United States, including popular online game publishers, virtual worlds, social networks, and other sites selling digital items, content and services online. The attractive merchant fees associated with the BilltoMobile payment service, which are significantly lower than traditional mobile billing rates, along with strong security and merchant back office tools, is creating a major network of participating online sites. Danal will be announcing some of its signed merchant agreements in the near future.

Ventyx Delivers 'First in the Field' Capabilities with New Service Suite Software Solution
Release 9 Enables End-to-End and Top-to-Bottom Mobile Workforce Management
ATLANTA, March 22 -- Ventyx®, the world's largest private software, data and advisory services provider to the energy delivery and communications industries, today announced Release 9 of the company's Service Suite software solution, with availability in the summer of 2010. Service Suite Release 9 will be the first software solution to deliver the full breadth of enterprise workforce management (EWFM) functionality supporting all classes of field service work -- all within a single integrated application.
"Ventyx continues to lead the way in the enterprise mobile workforce management market, with Service Suite 9 truly making us 'First in the Field,'" said Ventyx VP and GM, Mobile Workforce Management, Rick Nott. "Service Suite is the first EWFM solution to surpass 100,000 field technicians deployed to execute field work orders, and the first to support a single deployment of greater than 10,000 field technicians. With Release 9, it will also be the first platform delivering the entire end-to-end EWFM feature set from forecasting to reporting while also supporting top-to-bottom work order coverage required by both utilities and communications companies -- regardless of work type. The solution supports everything these organizations' workforces require to perform their work in the field, including work and asset management, meter readings and customer service by utilities, as well as network builds, network maintenance, service orders and trouble calls for communications companies."
End-to-End Capabilities
Service Suite was already the most powerful, full-featured mobile workforce management solution available, providing a complete infrastructure to efficiently plan, schedule, execute and automate the entire service workflow. This newest release of the software will extend the range of its functional capabilities to support the entire breadth of workforce management features, including:
-- Forecasting. Creates accurate and transparent predictions of future
work demand by automatically learning from past events; enables
organizations to balance demand with technician capacity, including
the ability to evaluate and apply factors that influence future
demand.
-- Scheduling. Continuously and automatically optimizes the schedule to
ensure the most efficient assignments.
-- Dispatch. Gives dispatchers the tools and information to monitor work
progress in the field in real time and make informed decisions in
response to jeopardy conditions or high-priority situations.
-- Mobile. Allows technicians to access customer and asset information,
view maps, report work status, collect and validate results and query
enterprise applications for additional information--all wirelessly and
in real time.
-- Reporting. Provides critical visibility into historical performance
and operational status, allowing the operator to manage the real
drivers of workforce performance to maximize efficiency.
Top-to-Bottom Coverage
Ventyx continues to make key enhancements in numerous functional areas of Service Suite, guided by market drivers and client feedback. One key area has been to couple the software's industry-leading support for high-volume, short-duration orders with greater support for complex, multi-step work enabling management of all field resources with a single EWFM solution.
With this most recent version of Service Suite, the solution will now support--from Top to Bottom--all of the work types conducted by a T&D utility or a communications company. The software supports construction, inspections, maintenance and outages/leaks, as well as customer and meter services work orders for utilities. And, it supports network builds, maintenance, work requests, service orders and trouble calls worked by communications companies' field workforces. To provide this scope, the solution has been greatly expanded to cover the complexities and often-lengthy job duration of asset infrastructure work orders conducted in the field.
Proven Performance
Leveraging Service Suite's wealth of functionality and Ventyx's unparalleled domain expertise, Ventyx clients around the world are maximizing customer satisfaction while lowering the overall cost of service delivery. In fact, today more than 124,000 miles of North American transmission lines rely on a Ventyx solution -- as do three of the top five North American cable MSOs and 25 of the world's leading telecommunications companies.
"'First in the Field' is not just about our place in the EWFM market," said Nott. "It is our commitment to helping clients be first in the field in completed work orders, shorter response/resolution times and increased data accuracy, and helping them make more informed decisions by accessing real-time information across the enterprise. Our latest release of Service Suite marks a milestone in the continuation of this commitment and provides a powerful tool to help our clients reach their goals of increased operational effectiveness, heightened productivity and fiscal stability."

BALTIMORE, March 22 -- Home audio company Definitive Technology announced it has developed the world's thinnest high-performance on-wall home theater loudspeaker: the 1.5-inch-thick Mythos® XTR®-50. The new patent-pending product is today being offered through an exclusive online agreement with Amazon.com and Crutchfield.com. In the coming weeks, Definitive plans to make the Mythos XTR-50 available online and in stores through additional retailers, including Magnolia Home Theater, Best Buy's high-end store within a store; Sixth Avenue Electronics; Abt Electronics; OneCall; Ultimate Electronics; Vann's; and elsewhere.
Conventional LCD and plasma televisions typically have an installed on-wall depth of 4 to 6 inches. The latest generation of premium, ultra-thin LCD flat-panel televisions uses LED-backlit technology for a better picture, with an installed on-wall depth of 1.75 inches or less.
Next to these super-slim televisions, yesterday's "made for plasma" on-wall speakers, typically 4 to 5 inches deep, look thick and out of place. Definitive developed the Mythos XTR-50 to look great on a wall or shelf next to an ultra-thin television, with no sacrifice in sound quality. The Mythos XTR-50 offers the audio definition, detail, bass and dynamic range performance of traditional larger speakers.
"Ultra-thin TVs do a wonderful job displaying realistic, high-definition images, but they need external speakers to provide equally high-quality sound," said Dave Peet, executive vice president of Definitive. "Previously, the only choices customers had were finding space in the room for full-sized speakers or cutting a hole in the wall to hide them, with only the grille showing."
Shipments of LED-backlit LCD ultra-thin televisions in 2010 are expected to grow fivefold over 2009, according to figures released late last year by television maker Samsung. Definitive designed the Mythos XTR-50 to complement the demand for and aesthetic of today's ultra-thin televisions.
The company accomplished the Mythos XTR-50's thin profile through innovative engineering of a variety of materials, including naturally strong, but lightweight aluminum. This metal has the added advantage of quickly dissipating heat.
Speakers produce sound by moving air with a "diaphragm." Most manufacturers form them into a cone shape from materials such as paper, plastic or woven fibers, but Definitive instead developed an aluminum dome that both produces sound and partly houses other components, such as a voice coil.
Voice coils typically contain lengths of wound copper wire, which is an excellent signal conductor but at the trade-off of being heavy. The Mythos XTR-50 uses lighter copper-clad aluminum-core wire to offer the advantages of both.
Another secret to the Mythos XTR-50's thin profile and superior performance is its aluminum cabinet. By specially shaping the enclosure and incorporating stiffening ribs and channels, Definitive achieved a strong, rigid housing that produces no unwanted resonance. Additionally, magnets used for driving the speakers protrude through, but flush with, the rear wall of the cabinet, to minimize depth and conveniently dissipate heat throughout the enclosure.
Other product components are made from polyimide film, another strong, lightweight and heat-resistant material used in spacesuits and the Apollo Lunar Module.
The Mythos XTR-50 cabinet measures 27 inches high, 6 inches wide and 1.5 inches thick, the perfect size for televisions measuring 46 to 55 inches. The product comes supplied with a wall-mounting bracket that allows either vertical or horizontal orientation, with a total on-wall depth of only 1.6 inches. Also supplied are stands for vertical tabletop use and horizontal shelf placement.
In January 2010, a prototype of the product was selected as the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Design and Engineering Best of Innovations 2010 Awards winner in the High-Performance Audio category. Products entered in the program were judged by a panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and journalists, to honor outstanding developments within 36 product categories. There was only one Best of Innovations winner in each category.
More than 2,500 companies shared information about nearly 20,000 products at the 2010 CES in Las Vegas, Nev. Held each January, CES is one of the largest technology trade shows in the world.
Definitive Technology has been committed to building superior-sounding home audio and home theater loudspeakers since 1990, when the company was founded by three lifelong audiophiles and experts in speaker design and acoustics. Definitive Technology® loudspeakers are among the most positively reviewed and honored high-performance loudspeakers on the market. Based in Baltimore, Maryland, Definitive Technology is part of the DEI Holdings family of consumer-electronics brands. Audio/video specialty retailers throughout the U.S. and in over 30 countries around the world proudly sell Definitive Technology loudspeakers. "Trident is uniquely positioned to serve this massive IT convergence because we hold the enabling technologies for both TV and STB and have strong relationships with the government, telecommunications operators and TV broadcast suppliers."
The China Market: Two Major Initiatives Underway
At a press conference today in Beijing, Trident's president Christos Lagomichos unveiled the company's China strategy to more than 25 technology and business reporters. There are two major government-funded initiatives currently taking place in China that are aimed at delivering digital TV and triple play services (voice, video, data) to households across the country. Trident's current product roadmaps and core expertise deliver the enabling technologies to address both of these markets today and in the future. Trident is the only IC supplier in the world that holds top three positions in the TV and STB markets and this technology strength and synergy can help Chinese customers win the high-volume designs.
-- Direct-to-Home (DTH) - This is the first satellite broadcast network
in China aimed at delivering digital TV services to approximately 200
million users across the region, including remote areas without cable.
Trident is one of three STB silicon providers chosen to deliver the
MPEG solution for the initial DTH phase, which represents
approximately 9 million units.
-- Next Generation Broadcasting - This is a government-funded initiative
to construct a new converged Infrastructure throughout China.
Services to be offered include interactive TV (video on demand,
pay-per view), videophone, streaming music and video, and broadcast
TV, among existing services in today's telecom and Internet markets.
Given the number of households in China, NGB will provide enormous
revenue/growth opportunities for local operators, manufacturers,
content providers, etc. Trident's DTV and STB roadmap, which include
the industry first 45nm designs, are NGB ready today and the Company
is working with local Chinese manufacturers to ensure they continue to
meet the requirements in the future.
Added Christos Lagomichos, president of Trident "As demonstrated today in our Beijing press conference, Trident is committed to the China market. We are in a position to help local companies compete globally and locally by offering the best STB and TV technologies in the industry and delivering strong local support with global resources. We look forward to working with our many customers in China and helping them succeed in the future."

WAYNE, Pa., March 22 -- SunGard Availability Services has introduced new software that helps organizations assess the resilience of vendors and readiness of employees in business continuity planning. SunGard Vendor Assessment and Work Force Assessment software helps organizations mitigate supplier and personnel risks to help ensure speedy recovery from disruptions to business and IT operations.
SunGard Vendor Assessment and Work Force Assessment software are new components of the SunGard Continuity Management Solution, which manages the entire lifecycle of business continuity planning, testing and execution processes. SunGard's integrated suite approach helps organizations save time with single data entry, centralized security and reporting across all continuity modules.
"Effective business continuity requires current information about the strengths and vulnerabilities of vendors and employees," said Tracey Forbes, vice president, software product development at SunGard Availability Services. "Our assessment software helps organizations improve readiness by allowing them to easily and quickly update their business continuity plans, determine the impact of the updates, and change plans to reflect new dynamics."
Rating Vendor Resiliency
SunGard Vendor Assessment software reduces the time needed to maintain vendor records by allowing vendors to make updates to their business continuity information through a standard survey. The survey inquires about vendor business continuity plans in areas including crisis management and notification, pandemic preparedness, business operations and technology.
The software provides assessment capabilities to rate vendors based on survey responses, enabling organizations to compare competing vendor ratings and identify suppliers not complying with continuity requirements. The assessment information can assist organizations in making decisions about vendor renewals and contract evaluations.
Determining Employee Readiness
SunGard Work Force Assessment software helps organizations evaluate their personnel's abilities to respond to business and IT disruptions. It provides a tool for collecting and reporting critical employee information, including skills and certifications, roles in continuity activities, work-at-home capabilities, reliance on transportation methods, continuity testing and recovery experience.
The software allows personnel to review and update their business continuity plan records and assigned attributes, making it easier for organizations to collect and maintain accurate information. It provides a centralized way to identify each employee's significance in a recovery process and identify areas where additional back-up personnel resources should be considered. Organizations can use the records to spot where cross-training and cross-certification programs should be implemented to help improve overall readiness.
SunGard Vendor Assessment and Work Force Assessment software are available now.

Unisys Expands Support for Modernized Applications and Mobile Devices on ClearPath Mainframes
New capabilities help clients make it easier for workers to use smartphones and consumer devices to access and manage ClearPath systems
BLUE BELL, Pa., March 22 -- Unisys Corporation (NYSE:UIS) today announced significant enhancements to its ClearPath family of mainframe servers. These enhancements are designed to make it easier for clients to modernize their application environments and to enable workers to access and manage ClearPath systems more efficiently through smartphones and other end-user devices.
Key enhancements include: integrated support for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch, plus enhanced mobile security; support for additional open-source development tools to extend ClearPath applications; and ClearPath Libra Model 750, a new mid-range system.
"Today's mainframe environments can't be confined to data centers," said Bill Maclean, vice president, ClearPath portfolio management, Unisys. "They need to extend out to where mobile workers are, supporting transactions on-the-go. We've made it a priority to build those capabilities into our ClearPath servers to provide what we believe is the most modern, secure, open mainframe platform on the market and to help our clients extend their long-term investments in strategic applications and IT infrastructure."
New, Secure Ways to Support Mobile Workers
The new Release 13.0 of the ClearPath MCP software environment provides secure support for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch, with planned support for additional mobile devices. This feature enhances the utility of the ClearPath ePortal Specialty Engine, a co-processor that manages web services and mobile-device access.
The new capabilities include dynamic application support, which makes it easier for mainframe applications to handle mobile workers' frequent logging on and off. Also, MCP now provides enhanced support for hybrid applications, giving mobile-device users a single, graphical view of data from multiple ClearPath transaction sources and making it easier for IT executives to view and manage system resources remotely.
To enrich support for users on-the-go, Unisys also plans an optional help desk service so support representatives can remotely resolve service incidents on mobile devices connected to the ClearPath system.
New mobile security enhancements to MCP include encryption to protect data crossing the network from being accessed by unauthorized users. Also, support for the Locum RealTime Monitor, from Unisys solution partner Locum Software Services Limited, enables system managers to react quickly to security violations based on data from multiple systems - a crucial requirement for mobile environments. This minimizes potential risk to business information and improves regulatory compliance and management reporting.
Open Development Tools Help Modernize ClearPath Applications
The MCP environment now supports the open-source scripting language PHP, making it easier to create Web-based applications that can interact with ClearPath DMSII databases. PHP and other open development tools, such as Java and XML, enable ClearPath clients to create a modernized application environment that bridges technology generations and extends the value of their investments in strategic software.
To accelerate application modernization, ClearPath clients can also take advantage of Unisys Application Advisory Services. These help determine how best to streamline the environment for maximum return on investment - answering questions such as which applications to enable for SOA, wireless or web access; which to modernize with enhanced functionality such as social-media or smartphone access; and which to consolidate on-premises or outsource.
ClearPath Libra Model 750: New Entry Point in Mid-range Line
Based on a Unisys proprietary CMOS processor, the ClearPath Libra Model 750 provides a new entry point in the mid-range ClearPath Libra 700 series. It is designed to accommodate medium-to-large transaction processing environments - especially those requiring continuous availability. It provides a 35-percent improvement in single-processor performance over the predecessor Libra Models 585/595.
Like other members of the ClearPath family, the ClearPath Libra Model 750 provides metering, a pay-for-use system software licensing capability that enables clients to match IT resources to business requirements and pay for the processing power they use, as they use it.
Base configurations of the ClearPath Libra Model 750 are priced from $1.3 million.

Blackboard Brings Interactive Teaching and Learning to Mobile Devices
Blackboard Mobile Learn Offers Two-Way Mobile Learning Experience
WASHINGTON, March 22 -- Blackboard Inc. (NASDAQ: BBBB) today announced plans for Blackboard Mobile Learn(TM), an application that will bring two-way teaching and learning to mobile devices, creating an interactive mobile learning experience for students and teachers on the go.
Blackboard's existing Blackboard Mobile Central(TM) application already delivers a mobile campus experience that includes news, events, maps and sports among a range of student life and service options. Blackboard Mobile Learn will take the next step by bringing the classroom experience and learning content to the mobile environment, arming campuses with a high quality option to quickly meet the growing demand from students who want to do more with their smartphones and other Web-enabled devices.
With Blackboard Mobile Learn, students will be able to check grades and assignments, add comments to discussion boards, email instructors and classmates and post comments on blogs - all from their mobile devices.
"We're seeing greater interest in education focused mobile applications, and this is the first to give students such a robust teaching and learning experience," said Michael L. Chasen, Blackboard's President and CEO. "We see mobile as a transformative technology in engaging students, and we're rolling out options that let institutions get started quickly and in some cases without any additional investment."
Blackboard Mobile Learn will recreate and enrich the course experience of Blackboard Learn(TM), the leading Web-based teaching and learning platform, in native mobile applications that in June will support a selection of the world's most popular mobile platforms including iPhone® OS, Android and BlackBerry®. Like Blackboard Mobile Central, Blackboard Mobile Learn is available through an annual license, will be branded under the school's name, and can be downloaded by students and faculty at mobile application stores.
Schools that are interested in experimenting with mobile learning on their campus for no additional charge can enable Wi-Fi access to Blackboard Mobile Learn on devices such as the iPhone and iPod touch® and, through a special partnership with Sprint (NYSE:S), on select smartphones powered by the Now Network(TM). The no cost options are intended to help institutions get started quickly without extra investments.
"Mobile adoption is happening faster than we expected, and it is being driven by changes in the way students want to consume information," said Brice Bible, Chief Information Officer at Ohio University. "Bringing the classroom experience to mobile devices is something that students and faculty are clearly looking for, and as we develop our strategy I'm excited about the possibilities of Blackboard Mobile Learn. Blackboard's ideas for mobile learning have a lot of merit."
Blackboard Mobile Learn will be available initially for U.S. and Puerto Rico higher education and professional education clients on Blackboard Learn Releases 8, 9 and higher. Details on availability for K-12 and international markets, as well as for previous versions of Blackboard Learn and the WebCT and ANGEL platforms, will follow. Blackboard Mobile Learn will be enabled with the free Blackboard Mobile Web Services Building Block(TM), which is available for download today at Blackboard's client support Web site, Behind the Blackboard(TM).
Blackboard Inc. (NASDAQ:BBBB) is a global leader in enterprise technology and innovative solutions that improve the experience of millions of students and learners around the world every day. CaribServe Selects Motorola's WiMAX with ASN 1000 Gateway to Expand, Increase Speed of Existing Broadband Service in St. Maarten
LAS VEGAS, March 22 -- CTIA WIRELESS 2010 -- The Networks business of Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT), the worldwide leader in developing and deploying WiMAX 802.16e networks and consumer devices, today announced that CaribServe, a wireless broadband service provider based on the island of St. Maarten / St. Martin in the Northeastern Caribbean, has signed a two-year agreement with Motorola for WiMAX infrastructure, devices and services. The island-based operator plans to launch WiMAX service later this year to deliver higher throughput via fixed, portable and nomadic data services to its subscribers.
CaribServe is a long-time Motorola customer that has been providing fixed wireless broadband service in St. Maarten / St. Martin using Motorola's point-to-multipoint wireless broadband access network solutions since 2004. CaribServe is also Motorola's first customer to select the recently-announced Motorola ASN 1000 WiMAX gateway.
CaribServe also selected Motorola's NBBS remote device management software platform to manage the customer premises equipment (CPE) that its customers will use with the new WiMAX service. NBBS is a solution that allows service providers to expand broadband service revenues while reducing operational and support costs through automated service provisioning and comprehensive device management.
"When Motorola developed its ASN 1000 WiMAX gateway, it gave us the opportunity to offer faster WiMAX-based services to our customers at a low-cost entry point to build-out the new network and provide an even greater broadband experience to our island's residents and tourists," said Roy Richardson, CaribServe's co-founder and general manager.
CaribServe plans to offer WiMAX service in the 3.5GHz band on the Dutch-side of the island later this year with service to follow in 2011 for the French-side of the island. CaribServe will offer a selection of Motorola CPEs - including the CPEo 450, CPEi 750, CPEi 775 and the USBw 200 dongle. Motorola will deploy the network using the WiMAX Access Point (WAP) 35450.
"Motorola continues to innovate in designing new products like the ASN 1000 WiMAX gateway that help our customers profitably deliver wireless broadband service," said Flavio Cardoso, senior director, Motorola Networks, Latin America. "We're seeing growing interest and momentum for WiMAX in the Caribbean and around the world, and this new WiMAX contract with CaribServe is just another example of how our portfolio can accommodate the many different business models for WiMAX operators."
The Motorola ASN 1000, an industry-first solution for deployments of 24,000 subscribers or less, is a compact five-unit rack that can manage up to 200 access points. It delivers the same rich features of Motorola's larger-capacity, one million-user WiMAX ASN gateway that supports up to 1,000 sites. The ASN 1000 also interoperates with Motorola's larger-capacity ASN gateway and will be upgradeable to accommodate up to 200,000 subscribers.
Motorola now has 40 WiMAX contracts with operators worldwide. The business cases and usage models are as varied as the geographies they serve. Some operators are using a wholesale model, others are bridging the digital divide and providing connectivity where there was none, and still others are bringing "on the go" connectivity to commuters on mass transit trains. As product innovation continues and the ecosystem of WiMAX-embedded devices continues to grow, operators are finding more possibilities and ways to monetize their investment to profitably launch WiMAX services.
Motorola is leading the industry with award winning, end-to-end WiMAX solutions that address the full scope of operators' deployment needs, including a new tier of products for operators wishing to deploy WiMAX networks in less populated markets or in those previously deemed unprofitable to enter. Motorola's new WiMAX ASN 1000 gateway lowers the initial cost of deploying a smaller network or in low teledensity areas while the indoor desktop CPEi 090, optimized for effective fixed data service with a low product cost, allows operators to pursue new market segments.
The Motorola WiMAX solutions portfolio includes access, core, devices, network management and services. Motorola's best-in-class quality assurance processes, along with a track record of WiMAX commercial deployments worldwide, offer service providers the confidence that they are getting a high-quality, reliable solution. Motorola's CPE and device portfolio includes models in 2.3GHz, 2.5GHz and 3.5GHz across a selection of outdoor and indoor desktop CPEs with capabilities ranging from data-only to combinations that include voice, data, and WiFi, as well as USB dongles for WiMAX on the go. Motorola's WiMAX CPEs and devices are also available for deployment on non-Motorola WiMAX networks worldwide.
Motorola Networks business delivers fully integrated and customizable media solutions enabling operators to offer personalized, rich media experiences to their subscribers. As a global wireless infrastructure leader, Motorola is committed to 4G with WiMAX and LTE solutions that provide a way for operators to profitably meet the ever-growing demand for mobile broadband today while giving 2G and 3G customers a future path as we continue to support their legacy networks. Motorola brings its services, fourth-generation orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) platform and 25 years of wireless data systems innovation, experience and expertise to bear as operators - wireline, wireless, cable and telco -seek to evolve their networks for the future.

ThickButtons Launches Accurate, Convenient Typing for Touchscreen Phones
New predictive text application simplifies typing for the Android
DESERT SPRINGS, Calif., March 22 -- Today, ThickButtons announces a smarter, easier and more accurate way to type on your touchscreen phone: introducing ThickButtons 0.6, an application available for free download on Android phones. ThickButtons improves ease and accuracy on the touchscreen by shrinking the letters that are not likely to be used and enlarging the buttons that are.
While the underlying science and algorithms are complicated, the interface is simple: unlike most dictionary-based prediction technologies that guess the full word during the typing process, ThickButtons finds it much easier to predict the letters unlikely to be used and make them smaller, leaving the rest of the text more accessible. With ThickButtons technology, the size of a phone screen is less of an issue because the buttons are enlarged.
"ThickButtons simplifies the way we type on our touchscreen smartphones," said Dimitri Lisitski, co-founder of ThickButtons. "Recent studies have documented a spiking demand for touchscreen smartphones - and correspondingly, people have been typing a lot more - with some frustrating and hilarious results. Dictionary-based technologies often can't keep up with names, slang and vernacular. Our technology simply approaches the same problem from a different angle. With ThickButtons, we are helping to eliminate the frustration of misspelled, mistyped, and misuse of text, ultimately improving communication."
Main Benefits:
No Change in Typing Habits: ThickButtons does not ask users to change their typing behaviors by learning a new way to type. Some of the recent predictive typing technologies in the industry include training steps and involve a learning curve before users become familiar with the process. With ThickButtons, just type the same way you have all your life.
Less Dependent on Dictionary: Traditional prediction-based technologies are effective only when a significant part of the word is entered. ThickButtons is unique because it begins working after just a few letters are entered. Less relevant buttons shrink and the buttons more likely to be used become larger. In some cases there is no dependency on the dictionary at all. For example, if a user presses backspace, three adjacent keys are enlarged offering a workaround for the most common mistakes.
Easy to Type Even on Small Screens: ThickButtons technology accommodates users of smartphones with small screens. No matter the size of a screen, ThickButtons becomes large enough for people to still use their fingers to type, eliminating the need for a stylus.
ThickButtons version 0.6 for Android is now available for free download at the Android Market, http://www.thickbuttons.com/ or to download on your phone visit market://search?q=pname:com.thickbuttons. A version for Windows Mobile 7 is currently under development. ThickButtons has also created an open community for users to share their typing experience with ThickButtons' developers, to ask questions and to suggest features. The team promises to actively participate with the community and to develop the most demanded features first. The community is available at http://community.thickbuttons.com/.
About ThickButtons
Founded in November 2008, ThickButtons introduces a technology that makes text input on touchscreen smartphones, even small ones, easy, convenient and accurate. ThickButtons' technology is based on the premise that it's much easier to predict which letters are unlikely to be used than to guess the full word, as other prediction technologies do. ThickButtons then shrinks the less-used letters out of the way, which leaves room to enlarge the letters a user needs. Input is easy, with no need to learn a new typing method. ThickButtons is less dependent on dictionary input than other predictive technologies, and therefore learns new words like slang and Instant Message or SMS acronyms quickly. The Android version of ThickButtons will be available on Android Market (market://search?q=pname:com.thickbuttons) and select websites in March 2010, with Windows Mobile 7 coming later. The company is self-funded and has 6 employees in Silicon Valley and Ukraine. For more information please visit http://www.thickbuttons.com.

Houston Jury Finds Member of World's Largest Alleged Internet Music Piracy Group Not Guilty
HOUSTON, March 22 -- Matthew Chow, a member of "Rabid Neurosis" (RNS), a music file-sharing site, was found not guilty last Friday of conspiracy to commit criminal copyright infringement.
Federal authorities claimed RNS was the world's most prolific music piracy ring. The alleged victim was The Recording Industry Association of America, (RIAA).
"I am relieved by the jury's verdict and I am grateful to my attorney for his hard work," says Chow. Houston attorney Terry W. Yates, who represented Matthew Chow said, "We encountered some extremely complex factual and legal issues in this case. The jury was very attentive during the trial. Their verdict was just."
According to the federal indictment, from 1999 to 2007 Matthew Chow and four other members of RNS conspired to illegally upload thousands of copyright-protected music files, provided by music industry insiders. These files were allegedly reproduced and distributed hundreds of thousands of times over the Internet.
Federal authorities charged Chow with a single count of conspiracy to commit copyright infringement, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a fine of $250,000. Chow could also have been ordered to pay restitution to the RIAA.
Of the five other members of RNS, Adil Cassim of California was also found not guilty Friday. Four other RNS members pled guilty to copyright infringement and three of those individuals gave testimony for the government in the Houston trial.
Judge Keith Ellison in the Southern Judicial District of Texas, Houston Division, presided over the trial.
Matthew Chow, 28 lives in Sugarland, Texas. Terry W. Yates is a Texas board-certified criminal law attorney. His office is based in Houston, Texas. The Terry W. Yates website is: http://www.yateslawoffices.com/.

Infusionsoft to Change Small Business Forever at DEMO Spring 2010
Infusionsoft Launches Email Marketing 2.0 Technology to Address 'Follow-up Failure' Problem Plaguing Small Businesses
PALM DESERT, Calif., March 22 -- Infusionsoft will present at DEMO Spring 2010 on its solution for small business growth, Email Marketing 2.0, which fixes the follow-up problem that's killing small businesses.
Today, Clate Mask and Scott Martineau, co-founders of Infusionsoft, will unveil the advanced Email Marketing 2.0 capabilities that allow entrepreneurs to kick-start growth by fixing the dirty little secret of small business: follow-up failure.
Entrepreneurs do a terrible job of following up with customers and prospects. As a result, they're leaving money on the table. They know it, but they don't know what to do about it. On-again, off-again marketing and failure to follow up with customers and prospects is at the root of this problem, which stems from three main issues:
1) Disjointed systems: The email system and the customer database don't naturally talk to each other, which amounts to a bunch of headaches for the small business owner.
2) Manual processes: In order to market, the small business owner has to go in and do the work every time. So any follow-up done is on a one-off basis and limited resources means it just doesn't get done.
3) Email only: The only chance the small business has of reaching customers is in an already cluttered inbox.
Infusionsoft is the first to marry email marketing and CRM all in one system that's driven by a powerful marketing automation engine that allows small businesses to send targeted email marketing that is dynamic and adapts to customer behavior.
With Infusionsoft, small businesses can deliver the right message to the right person at the right time and increase sales.
"Today's email marketing apps were created to help people stay in touch, but they totally miss the mark for small businesses," said Clate Mask, CEO and co-founder of Infusionsoft. "Email Marketing 2.0 is the way to fix the follow-up problem for small businesses. It's integrated. It's automated. And it's more than just email, so entrepreneurs can now market like big companies, on a small business budget."
"The reason we gather at DEMO each year is because the spirit of entrepreneurship drives business and innovation," said Matt Marshall, executive producer of DEMO.
