There are some new virus definitions available for Norton AV available, dated today. Use your autoupdater or if you prefer the manaul method you can get them here.
According to the chipset companies present schedules, related solutions are expected to come out after the fourth quarter. Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) is set to introduce its Serial ATA-supporting south bridge chip SiS964 in the fourth quarter, and VIA Technologies plans to incorporate the function into its VT8235 south bridge chip later. As for Intel, the chip giant will not integrate the Serial ATA specification into its new ICH5 south bridge chip until the first half of 2003 at the earliest.
The 10-level product features two parts: "Soldiers," a role-playing game, and "Operations," a first-person action game. The software, which weighs in at 220MB, will available for download starting Thursday at the America's Army Web Site and other gaming sites.
This time Nvidia will go for two boards -- one with and one without integrated graphic core -- since this will dramatically decrease the price and by it they will directly be able to compete with Via's up-and-coming DDR 400 chipset called KT 400 and some new SIS offerings. Big deal, the Athlon can't use the increased memory speed! They should make some Pentium 4 chipsets...
Here was a little fix I ran across for ASPI under Win2K/XP for those of you who have been having problems with getting your CDRW to be recognized by your burning program. You can get it from NT Compatible.
Well, what can I say. Now you've seen what the P4T533 with RIMM 4200 RDRAM can do ... there's no question that this is the ultimate motherboard/ram combination. Nothing ... I mean nothing comes even close to it. You might argue that memory bandwidth is not a good indication in overall performance. True, but look at the other scores from various 3D benchmarks ... the results speaks for themselves.
While the performance is lacking and board layout could be better for only $59 you can forgive a lot. Matsonic may have found a small niche it can squeeze itself into. If Matsonic can just fix a few things in their layout and bios they will be a competitive player for the low end market.
Xtreme DDR is a new kid on the block in the world of memory modules and they are shooting to be in the high performance cutting edge of the crowd with the established big boys. Check out thier offering over at Viper's Lair to see if they can make the grade.
With the PC industry still smarting from a brutal spring, Dell is buttressing its hopes for a back-to-school sales bump by giving away $50,000 a day all month. Those who buy a desktop or notebook from the Round Rock, Texas-based computer maker will automatically be entered in the sweepstakes.
Company chairman Hsu Shih-chang personally chose the ASROCK brand name, sources from Asustek said. Following Asusteks Chinese marketing slogan, the new brand name tries to convey the similar image, stressing sound and stable product quality. Sure it does..
I'm downloading the huge patch right now and then I'll check out the beta of the game. Expect a full preview in the next few days. I have to master the game first .
By the way, if anyone else is in the beta and would like to form a group with me that would be cool.
Overall the performance levels are fractionally higher that the ABIT equivalent, but aren't exactly enough to provide any real-world advantages. I'm not quite sure whether the Triplex card came out on top due to the extra memory, or if it had something to do with the "revolutionary" silver PCB design. In case you were wondering, silver PCBs are actually becoming more common now, as a number of high profile motherboard manufacturers have already released boards based on a silver PCB. Retailing around $450 AUD, the Triplex Millennium Silver GeForce4 Ti4400 128MB card costs a little more than the 64MB version, but still can be considered a bargain compared with the average Ti4600 or the $750 AUD Triplex Ti4600 model. Keep in mind that the real power of the Ti4600 is displayed at resolutions higher that 1280x1024, where cards such as the Ti4200 will start to fizzle out.
If you are an overclocker on a budget that wants to build a powerful system the AK35GT2-R is one of the top choices on a short list. Features like 6 channel audio, RAID, and 4 DIMM sockets aren't often available at a low price. Shuttle has successfully continued the tradition of low cost and feature packed boards with this continuation of the AK series.
In regards to our AOpen AX45 comparison board based on the SiS645 chipset, the i845 didn't really prove to be too much to write home to mom about. The strength in the board is its wide array of features and adjustable settings. Add to this four DIMM slots, eight total USB ports (four being USB 2.0), Dr Voice II, the Watch Dog timer, BIOS that can be flashed from within Windows and on and on, you see the AX4B-Max as a very well rounded feature rich board. AOpen is know for two qualities, stability and well rounded products, the AX4B-Max certainly exemplifies both. Our only gripe of consequence is the board's price of $132. While not exactly a bad price it isn't exactly a bargain either. But anyway you cut it AOpen has again put forth a board worthy of consideration for your next upgrade.
Because a large number of semiconductor companies now use foundries rather than build chips themselves, an increase in fab utilization can be viewed as a sign that the overall market is recovering. Foundries don't make chips unless their customers, such as Broadcom or Nokia, order them, and these companies don't place orders unless demand improves.
SmarterChild, a so-called bot that predicted the weather, gave dictionary definitions, asked trivia questions, and played blackjack with AIM users, became so popular that its provider, ActiveBuddy, decided to retire it, effective Monday.
Santa Monica, Calif.-based SongPro plans to launch a device that will sell for less than $99 this fall that will play digital music in various formats on any of the tens of millions of GameBoy game consoles worldwide. I wonder if anyone will buy this...
Intel ascribes the shift to a "healthy" 130 nanometer process and good engineering. That means it's now highly likely that Intel will be able to introduce a 3GHz Pentium 4 for the fourth quarter, as the chip dates shuffle forward.
Overall, Dually DDR is on the horizon and it is looking to be a great product. At this point I think we should all be happy to be able to buy a CPU that can take advantage of all that bandwidth. This is a PREVIEW as well, the board is still in beta.
As first reported by CNET News.com, the Apache worm infects unpatched servers running the FreeBSD operating system, an open-source variant of Unix, and the Apache Web software. Despite initial reports that the worm had spread to some servers, consultants and antivirus experts haven't seen much activity.
PowerStrip 3.19 provides advanced, multi-monitor, programmable hardware support to a wide range of graphics cards - from the venerable Matrox Millennium I to the latest Radeon 8500DV and GeForce4 Ti4600. It is in fact the only program of its type to support multiple graphics cards from multiple chipset vendors, simultaneously, under every Windows operating system from Windows 95 to XP. A simple menu that pops up from the system tray provides access to some 500 controls over your display hardware, including sophisticated color correction tools, period level adjustments over screen geometry, and driver independent clock controls. By the way, it is 3.20.
What have we learned from the hours of endless benchmarking? For starters, the GeForce4 was definitely a wise investment for anyone that has already purchased one. Current GeForce4 owners can rest assured that their cards will be able to play the next-generation of FPSes perfectly at very high frame rates. However, we'd caution anyone looking to upgrade in the coming months; ATI's R300 is on the horizon and, from what we're hearing, will be a formidable opponent to the GeForce4 Ti 4600. Then there's the elusive NV30, provided that it does ship on time by the end of this year we'll be seeing some impressive scores from the NVIDIA camp as well.
In March, Sun raised concerns about Visual J#.Net in its private antitrust lawsuit against Microsoft. Sun charged that Microsoft had corrupted Java, undermining its promise of allowing developers to create software that can run on different types of computers or operating systems without having to be rewritten. Microsoft executives, however, assert that Visual J#.Net's limited capability allows Microsoft to sidestep licensing issues with Java creator Sun. Microsoft sidestepping licensing issues? HA! :\
The latest gadgets to incorporate DVD players are home theaters. Sales of the systems, which combine a stereo receiver with a DVD player and speakers, increased 230 percent in 2001 over 2000 and more than 987 percent in the first five months of 2002 compared with 2001.
Sales of DVD players also continued to increase significantly. In 2001, sales increased 68.8 percent over 2000. Their popularity has caused them to quickly become a commodity product, with prices dropping to less than $100.
Of course, Soyo has ensured that it's definitely not about the benchmarks alone. Rather than simply switching to KT333 and leaving the rest of the board alone, Soyo has taken this opportunity to provide a more capable RAID controller and USB 2.0 support, among other things. The real kicker here is that the higher functionality doesn't mean a higher price; the DRAGON Ultra is currently available for as low as $140. Coincidentally, that's exactly the same price that the DRAGON Plus board cost when we reviewed it.
