Toshiba ApP Lite(TM) High-Performance IoT Platform Features Analog Front End For Faster, More Efficient Wearables
TZ1200 ARM® Cortex®-based processors omit need for external graphics controller, enabling 2x CPU speedup while maintaining small footprint
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW (CES) -- Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC)*, a committed leader that collaborates with technology companies to create breakthrough designs, today introduced the TZ1200 series of ApP Lite(TM) processors for Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The first product, the TZ1201XBG, is a high-performance processor for next-generation consumer Internet of Things (IoT) applications, which not only have extremely low-power requirements, but also need the latest graphics features to drive a high-resolution display, while occupying a very small footprint.
The TZ1201XBG integrates an ARM(®) Cortex(®)-M4F processor with a high-performance 2D graphics engine and 2.2 megabytes of embedded SRAM([1]). It comes with an integrated high-precision analog front end (AFE), which has a 24-bit delta-sigma analog-to-digital converter (ADC), eliminating the need for an external ADC or graphics controller. This makes the processor well suited for such IoT applications as smart watches, health and fitness wearables, home automation and virtual/augmented reality, to name a few.
"Manufacturers need a processor solution that can meet the power, performance and memory requirements associated with the growing number of mid-range consumer IoT applications," said Deepak Prakash, senior director of marketing, Logic LSI Business Unit, System LSI Group at TAEC. "Toshiba has a proven strong commitment to enabling IoT devices, and our newest line of ApP Lite processors was specifically designed to target this burgeoning area of the market."
The high-precision AFE measures extremely weak signals (about 10 microvolts), such as EEG or EMG (brain or muscle scans), as well as impedance, which can be used to determine stress level index by calculating skin resistance. The AFE also supports up to 4-channel voltage/current/impedance multi-sensing with only a minimal addition of external components. By integrating the software and various services, the data measured by the AFE can be utilized to create new applications as well as target new markets.
The ARM Cortex-M4F at the heart of the TZ1201XBG was developed to target active current consumption of 78 microamps per megahertz (MHz) in normal operation mode. It works with the power management software for about one week in pulse measurement applications or for about one month in watch applications with a 200mAh battery.
The new ApP Lite processor can run at 120MHz in overdrive mode at maximum working frequency. Its dedicated 2D graphics accelerator reduces CPU utilization and power dissipation, enabling smooth functioning of the graphical user interface (GUI). Together with the embedded data compressor, the TZ1201XBG enables large-capacity data storage for long periods of time without frequent uploading of data.
Availability
Samples of the TZ1200XBG ApP Lite processor will begin shipping in April. Mass production is scheduled to begin in summer 2016.
1. Product density is identified based on the density of memory chip(s)
within the product, not the amount of memory capacity available for data
storage by the end user. Consumer-usable capacity will be less due to
overhead data areas, formatting, bad blocks, and other constraints, and
may also vary based on the host device and application. For details,
please refer to applicable product specifications.
ApP Lite is a trademark of Toshiba Corporation. ARM and Cortex are trademarks or registered trademarks of ARM Limited (or its subsidiaries) in the EU and/or elsewhere.

SPYR Launches New Mobile Game, Retro Shot, in Select Markets
DENVER, Jan. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- SPYR, INC. (OTCQB: SPYR), a holding company with wholly owned subsidiaries in the mobile game and app publishing and development industry and the food service industry, today announced that its subsidiary, SPYR APPS, LLC, has "soft" launched its first third-party published game, Retro Shot, in select overseas markets for testing. Retro Shot is a retro-style arcade game that is fully equipped with neon lights, an original 80's synthwave soundtrack, free-to-play game mechanics and monetization. The game is being co-published with its developer, SuperPlus Games, a Finnish company founded by former Rovio employees who were part of the team that worked on "Angry Birds."
Retro Shot has been in development throughout 2015 and has now been soft launched in select overseas markets in the Google Play Store. A soft launch in the Apple App Store is expected to follow early this month. A full launch of the game in both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store is anticipated in late January, once early data is collected and analyzed and the hard launch version is finalized after making adjustments based upon data gathered during the soft launch.
The three founders of SuperPlus Games have almost 30 years of combined experience in the mobile games development industry and have been involved in the development of more than 70 titles, including such Finnish success stories as Angry Birds and the Flatout Series.
The development team describes Retro Shot as a unique combination of mini golf and 80's pinball games. Retro Shot has a very special soundtrack to complement its retro aesthetic. Finnish game musician Tommi Salomaa and SuperPlus are planning to release the sound track on Spotify when the game is fully launched.
Paul Thind, Managing Director of Games & Applications commented: "We're proud to soft launch our first third-party title, co-published with the amazing team at SuperPlus Games. We have decided to soft launch the game in a few key test markets, to gather data for analysis of our metrics and key performance indicators to make sure the game is designed in a way that is engaging for our users.
The importance of soft launching any title cannot be discounted, as it will allow SPYR APPS and SuperPlus to further refine the game's internal systems. The game's latest version is very user friendly and has the aesthetic look, feel and gameplay of a top quality title. The SPYR APPS and SuperPlus teams have worked tirelessly over the past few months and we've set up an internal infrastructure that should position us for success. A lot of game design, development and publishing is a learning process and iterating as quickly as possible to get quality data and good findings to improve the gameplay and level design, which leads to solid monetization.
We will have further announcements in 2016 around new titles, but for now I'm very excited about Retro Shot and the possibility of creating a solid launch for our users worldwide, as well as tremendous value for our shareholders."

Toshiba Launches Ethernet Bridge Solution For Automotive Applications, Including Infotainment And Telematics
Chipset enables automotive Ethernet AVB for next-generation IVI and telematics
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW (CES) -- Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC)*, a committed leader that collaborates with technology companies to create breakthrough designs, today introduced an automotive-grade Ethernet bridge solution for in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) and other automotive applications. The TC9560XBG supports standards such as IEEE 802.1AS and IEEE 802.1Qav, generally referred to as Ethernet-AVB. The Ethernet-AVB standard enables stable, reliable multimedia transmissions, making it suitable for IVI and telematics.
Automotive electronics are becoming more complex with the addition of advanced sensors, high-resolution displays, on-vehicle cameras, automated driver assistance systems (ADAS) and their data transmission and controls. Connecting these devices with an industry-standard Ethernet protocol contributes to simplified wiring, cost savings, reduced harness weight and improved mileage. Toshiba's new automotive-grade Ethernet solution also supports Ethernet-AVB, which is an important feature for multimedia applications. In addition, the device will be AEC-Q100([1]) qualified to ensure performance in rigorous automotive environments.
Noted Deepak Mithani, senior director of the Mixed-Signal Business Unit, System LSI Group at TAEC, "Working together with our industry collaborators and customers, we have developed a high-value solution specifically intended to meet the growing requirement for automotive Ethernet by making it easier for automotive OEMs to integrate the part into their new vehicles. We look forward to seeing our efforts utilized in upcoming generations of in-vehicle applications."
Strategy Analytics forecasts that demand for automotive Ethernet will exceed 120 million nodes by 2020([2]), driven by increased in- and on-vehicle electronic content, including cameras, sensors, displays, safety systems and convenience solutions. In particular, for emerging autonomous vehicle systems, a reliable, high-speed communications network is an essential requirement.
Connected to an application processor or other system-on-chip (SoC) host, the TC9560XBG allows the host device to deliver audio, video, and data information through the 10/100/1000 Ethernet network in an automotive environment. Connection to the host is achieved via PCI Express(®) (PCIe(®)), HSIC or Time Division Multiplex (TDM)/I2S for audio traffic. The IC's RGMII/RMII([3]) interface connects to the Ethernet switch or PHY device, and both AVB and legacy traffic are supported. An on-chip ARM(®) Cortex(®)-M3 processor can perform system control and management.
The chipset is housed in a 10x10mm LFBGA package.
Availability
Samples of the TC9560XBG Ethernet bridge solution and TC9560AXBG, with CAN-FD features, are available now. Volume production will commence in October 2016.

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading optical display technology developer Lumus has unveiled its
DK-50 development kit at CES 2016 (Booth #26433), showcasing the most advanced augmented reality optics technology available to date.
A stand-alone augmented reality display dev kit that uses InfinityAR marker-less AR tracking, the DK-50 provides a strikingly immersive and unparalleled AR experience today. CES attendees will have an opportunity to experience true augmented reality in the real world with DK-50 demos at the Lumus booth.
"The DK-50 represents a significant achievement that combines the finest optical display in the market with the latest industry-leading marker-less AR tracking," Lumus CEO Ben Weinberger says. "We're extremely proud and excited to introduce the first and only optical display technology that enables smart eyeglasses to deliver a truly believable AR experience. Lumus technology makes it completely achievable right now to generate a large-scale, high-resolution, bright virtual image, with a lightweight wearable eyeglass display."
The DK-50 glasses are equipped with twin stereo cameras and an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), which allows application developers access to real-time mapping and tracking, for the creation of augmented reality applications limited only by the developer's imagination.
The AR glasses not only project an overlay directly on the wearer's main line of sight, but also provide:
-- Real-time mapping of the environment and complete freedom of movement in
all directions
-- Widest fully transparent field of view available (40 degrees)
-- Binocular, and high resolution (720p)
-- Onboard Qualcomm® Snapdragon(TM) processor running the Android(TM)
mobile operating system
-- SDK and Android application that turns any mobile phone into a remote
control, allowing mouse-like interface, smart glasses application
launcher, access to settings, and much more
The enabling optical technology within the new DK-50 is the Lumus Optical Engine, which consists of the patented Light-Guide Optical Element (LOE), a reflective waveguide and the Micro Display Pod, a miniature projector. Together they create the virtual image of a transparent, full-color projection over the wearer's surroundings, seamlessly blending digital content into the physical world. Wearable eyeglass displays built with this breakthrough technology can now be compact and comfortable for the first time.
Lumus already has their first customer for the DK-50 development kit: SUNCORPORTATION, a leading Japanese IT and entertainment company, which recently announced a partnership with Lumus and InfinityAR. "SUNCORP is proud to be the first customer introducing an end product based on the Lumus DK-50 design," says Masanori Yamaguchi, CEO of SUNCORPORTION. "We believe our enterprise and industrial customers will greatly benefit from this game-changing augmented reality platform." SUNCORP will introduce AceReal, AR glasses developed for enterprise applications, at Wearable Expo (Jan. 13 - 15, 2016, at the Tokyo International Exhibition Center).

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Music Wrap, an innovative start-up in the music experience industry, announces the launch of their newest product, the M25 headphone and speaker hybrid. Music Wrap will be exhibiting at CES in Las Vegas, January 6-9, 2016 at booth #81555, at the Sands Start-up Eureka Park.
The latest M25 product is a combination of speaker and headphone in a never-before-seen form factor. Its transformable properties make it fitting for any environment, allowing users to listen to their favorite music the way they like, without compromise. In essence, the M25 creates a personal sound field.
The M25 innovative product design allows for a unique "social listening" experience. With the proper length, the M25 sits perfectly around the neck, freeing the user's hands and ears without sacrificing the overall listening experience.
"Our diverse team of experienced acoustic sound engineers, manufacturing specialists and social marketers created the M25 with music lovers in mind," says Peggy Lai, Product Manager with Music Wrap. "We wanted to rethink the entire experience of listening to music from the ground up, without any preconceptions of what the final product would be. The resulting end product lets users safely experience music without losing sound quality or enjoyment, while still being aware to the world around them."
The headphone industry topped $2.6 billion in 2014 with over 286 million units of headphones shipped across the globe. Sales are predicted to reach 355 million units sold in 2018. Top brands in the space include Beats by Dre, Skullcandy, Shure, Klipsch, Bose, Pioneer, Sony and many others.
The M25 specifications include:

EZVIZ Enters Smart Home Market with $139.99 Mini IQ Camera
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- EZVIZ, a company spun off from the world's largest security video supplier, is launching a sophisticated, feature-packed smart home wireless camera today at CES - almost half the cost for comparable smart home cameras.
Mini IQ comes with Z-wave technology, so it can communicate with everyday smart products like lights, locks, and thermostats. Starting at an impressive $139.99, Mini IQ features 1080p HD resolution, 2-way audio, ambient temperature and humidity sensors, DC and battery power and night vision up to an impressive 30 feet.
With a 4-megapixel high-resolution image sensor, users can zoom in on the images and maintain a crystal clear 1080p high definition picture. Its glass lens also provides viewing angles as wide as 140-degrees diagonally with distortion correction, which allows Mini IQ to take in more scenery than most competitive smart home solutions. Mini IQ also supports a wide dynamic range of 120 dB for greater details in challenging lighting conditions.
When Mini IQ is not plugged in or during a power outage, it goes into power saving standby mode and shuts off the camera to minimize battery usage, and fully wakes up within 600 milliseconds when its passive infrared sensor (PIR) detects motion.
As always, EZVIZ has made data security and privacy the top priority, with every video encrypted directly on the camera and streamed securely by SSL to the cloud or designated device. Although videos can be easily stored on the EZVIZ cloud, you can also store video locally on a microSD memory card up to 128GB.
"The idea of the smart home is nothing innovative, but our approach is what makes us game-changers. We believe that smart home technology that keeps your home healthy and safe should be available to everyone - at a reasonable, affordable price," said Albert Lin, EZVIZ general manager.
EZVIZ is offering a one-month free CloudPlay trial with purchase and then 7-day and 30-day subscriptions in monthly or yearly plans. Subscriptions start at $4.99/month or $49.99/year for the 7-day plan, or $9.99/month or $99.99/year for the 30-day plan.

Ossia Works with Accessory Manufacturer XPNDBLS To Embed Cota Wireless Power Technology in Device Cases
Cota Technology Embedded in Modular Cases Will Allow Wireless, Automatic Charging for New Devices and Enable Retrofitting for Existing Devices
BELLEVUE, Wash., Jan. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Ossia, the company behind the Cota® remote wireless charging technology, announced today that XPNDBLS (pronounced "expandables"), an innovative accessory manufacturer, is integrating Cota wireless power technology into its modular mobile device cases. As a result of the companies' collaboration, consumers can retrofit existing devices, use the case to wirelessly charge new devices or store energy in an external battery for later use with charged devices.
A CES 2016 Innovation Awards Honoree in the "Tech for a Better World" product category, Cota technology is an evolutionary leap forward for true mobility. It safely delivers targeted energy to automatically recharge devices without requiring users to place devices on a charging pad or connect them via cords to a power source. The Cota transmitter is capable of powering smaller devices like smartphones, tablets, smart locks, remote controls and much more.
XPNDBLS features a modular platform that allows third-party hardware developers to integrate their unique technologies with mobile phones and tablets and take advantage of the built-in interface and scalability across multiple smart devices due to XPNDBLS patent-pending modular design. XPNDBLS is unique because, unlike traditional battery-charging cases that feature a battery that is locked into the external housing, the XPNDBLS mobile platform works with interchangeable electronics to enable use across a range of devices.
"With our modular design approach, we're an ideal partner for third-party developers like Ossia who want to expand the market for their innovative products," said Kero Basilious, founder of XPNDBLS. "The synergy from our collaboration will enable creation of ground-breaking, future-proof products that will enhance the user experience."
Approximately the size of a small PC tower, Cota uses patented smart antenna technology to safely deliver targeted energy to devices up to 30 feet away, making sure the devices are always powered up and ready to use. The technology functions similarly the way WiFi transmitters deliver data to devices. Cota safely transmits energy around corners and over obstacles without requiring a direct line of sight.
"Working with XPNDBLS allows us to deliver the benefits of Cota receivers to market much more quickly," said Hatem Zeine, founder and CEO of Ossia and creator of Cota technology. "In addition to enabling us to bring wireless charging to market more quickly via new devices, our collaboration with XPNDBLS allows users to retrofit existing models for a range of different devices, making a Cota ecosystem both accessible and attainable in the short term."
Ossia is working with a number of investors and product developers and continues to explore commercial and consumer applications for its wireless charging technology. To learn more, please visit http://www.ossia.com.

From Phone To Foam - Steam CC Launches The Coffee Ripples App Putting Consumers In Control Of "Coffee Art Content" In A Cup
Latest printing technology and app allows any photo or image from phones to be shared instantly on a cappuccino or latte
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- CES Las Vegas -- Something new is brewing at CES: from selfies to "sip pics" the art of coffee is being redefined. Steam CC, the innovative IoT company behind the Ripple Maker, a revolutionary new device that produces ANY image or message (known as a Ripple) onto a foam-topped coffee, has unveiled the Coffee Ripples App which pairs with the device to allow the "end-drinker" to create anything they can imagine onto a cappuccino or latte.
The Ripple Maker has been wowing coffee lovers in NYC with its ability to produce high-resolution Ripples onto lattes, cappuccinos, or any foam-topped drink in a matter of seconds. Now the Coffee Ripples App empowers anyone with a smartphone to turn ordinary beverages into extraordinary experiences by creating inspiring Ripples from any image, photo or message they choose or create.
Live demonstrations of the new commercial version of the Ripple Maker and consumer app will be taking place throughout CES at the Sands Expo Center, Hall C Booth #73407. It can also be seen in action here.
Developed by award-winning industrial designers, the Ripple Maker combines patented printing technologies with coffee extract filled Ripple Pods, to create the Ripples. Created for coffee shops, restaurants or hospitality suites, any venue that serves coffee will be able to take advantage of the opportunities for engagement, loyalty and emotional connection that Ripples provides.
The Coffee Ripples App makes creating and sending a personal image as simple as creating a social media post. The app functionality allows the user to choose an existing image from Ripples' extensive content library, or to submit an image from their camera roll which will be transformed into foam art at the venue. Users can edit, scale, filter and even add text to the image before they send.
Initially available on iOS, with Android versions launching in February 2016, the intuitive app is location based, so is able to locate and display Ripple-enabled venues in the area.
"The reaction to the Ripple Maker from coffee shop owners, baristas and the general public has been as extraordinary as the coffee art they have collectively created," said Yossi Meshulam, CEO of Steam CC, parent of Ripples. "With the addition of the extensive content library and robust consumer app, we look forward to offering the Ripples experience to many more countries and venues around the world."
The Ripple Maker will be available to commercial establishments that serve coffee, and will be delivered with service plans starting at $85 per month. These flexible plans provide owners with Ripple Pods, operating service and warranties, as well as access to Ripples' content platform and themes. The Coffee Ripples App is free to consumers.
The Ripple Maker requires no special training, is small and convenient, and adds mere seconds to the coffee delivery process. Its intuitive display makes it simple to browse existing Ripple content which is arranged by themes (greetings, smart quotes, coffee humor, etc.), or to print a message that was sent by the Coffee Ripples App.
"As well as being the most social of social media, images of latte art are some of the most shared pictures online," added Meshulam. "We are taking this creative medium to a whole new level and letting everyone express themselves and make a ripple on the world."
With the Coffee Ripples App coffee lovers can:
-- Browse Ripples' content library
-- Submit their own image, picture, design or message and send it to a
local Ripple Maker to produce
-- Edit, scale, filter and even add text to Ripples
-- Locate Ripple-enabled venues
Key elements of the Ripple Maker include:

Whirlpool Brand Debuts New Connected Kitchen Suite at CES 2016
At Home or on the Go, Latest Three-Piece Suite Works Intuitively to Cater to Families' Distinct Needs
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The kitchen is more than just a place to prepare and cook food, it's the headquarters for family meetings, a make-shift homework zone and an art gallery for the little ones. To keep the kitchen connected, while freeing up time for families to make memories, Whirlpool designed the Smart Kitchen Suite with the CareSync(TM) system.
As the newest innovations to integrate with the Whirlpool® mobile app, Works with Nest and Amazon Dash Replenishment, the three-piece collection - refrigerator, dishwasher and stove - offers families control of their appliances remotely, alert notifications and peace of mind.[i]
"At Whirlpool, we're passionate about developing technology that solves real consumer needs," said Ben Artis, senior manager for connectivity strategy, Whirlpool Corporation. "From the automatic production of more ice when entertaining guests to alert notifications so families know when the refrigerator loses power, our new smart kitchen suite is packed with home automation features that allow families, whether in the other room or out running errands, to better care for each other and their home."
From helping prepare for unexpected guests, to keeping the house running whether home or away, the Smart Kitchen Suite offers a variety of specialty modes to cater to families' distinct needs:
-- Whether prepping for an evening of entertaining or dashing home to meet
impromptu guests, Party Mode in the Smart French Door Refrigerator helps
families by activating Fast Ice and Fast Cool settings to prepare for
guests automatically by speeding up ice production, quickly chilling
beverages and snacks, and helping maintain cool temperatures while the
fridge doors are frequently being opened and closed.
-- When in Lock Mode, families can deactivate the control panels to prevent
functions on the stove and dishwasher, and receive alerts if someone
tries to unlock these appliances.
-- Focus on important conversations around the kitchen table or settle in
to watch your favorite movie without distractions - when activated, the
Quiet Mode turns off beeps and alerts on the dishwasher and stove.
-- Sabbath Mode helps families observe Sabbath, by turning off lights and
sounds on all three units at sunset, limiting mechanical function and
setting temperatures to a steady state in the oven.
Inspired by the different ways families care and entertain, each appliance in the Smart Kitchen Suite with the CareSync(TM) system can be personalized through the Whirlpool® mobile app:
-- The Smart Front Control Range lets families preheat, start, pause, stop
and adjust the temperature and cook time for the oven, and shows how
much cook time is remaining - all from a smartphone. Consumers can
choose to receive mobile alerts for when preheat and cook times are
complete, so there's no need to keep running back and forth to the
kitchen. And, when the Nest Thermostat is set to away, consumers receive
an alert through the Whirlpool® mobile app if their oven is on when no
one is home.
-- The Smart Dishwasher sends alert notifications to consumers when a dish
cycle is complete, and when the Whirlpool® mobile app is synced with an
Amazon account, the dishwasher estimates when supplies like dish
detergent and affresh® washer cleaner are running low and automatically
re-orders more through Amazon Dash Replenishment.
-- In addition to the completely and intuitively re-imagined inside of the
Smart French Door Refrigerator with a unique shelving system that is now
the industry's easiest refrigerator to organize[ii], families can use
smart notifications on their app to alert them of a power or Wi-Fi
outage, and get reminders to change the air and water filters.
-- Also through the Whirlpool® mobile app, each appliance in the suite
features advanced care by displaying fault codes and helping to schedule
service appointments.
The Whirlpool® Smart Kitchen Suite with the CareSync(TM) system features three CES Innovation Award honorees - the Whirlpool® Smart Front Control Range, Whirlpool® Smart Dishwasher and Whirlpool® Smart French Door Refrigerator in the Home Appliances and Smart Home categories.
CES attendees can get a first glimpse of this new connected kitchen suite and other award-winning innovations at Whirlpool brand's booth #74352 in the Family & Technology Marketplace at the Sands Expo Center, January 6-9. The suite is anticipated to launch in late 2016.

Philanthropy Meets Technology in the Whirlpool® Smart Top Load Washer
From the Connect to care(TM) Program to Amazon Dash Replenishment, Whirlpool's Award-Winning Laundry Pair Thinks and Plans Ahead for Families1
BENTON HARBOR, Mich., Jan. 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The new Whirlpool® Smart Top Load Washer and Dryer offer families another way to care for each other and those around them like no other - it is the first-ever laundry pair in the U.S. to introduce the use of technology to power philanthropic donations.
Care is Giving Back: The Connect to care(TM) program
Winner of a prestigious 2016 CES Innovations Honoree Award in the Tech for A Better World category, Whirlpool brand's proprietary Connect to care(TM) program allows families to automatically donate to others in need. For every load of laundry washed, a small but meaningful amount of money can be donated to Habitat for Humanity, to help create affordable housing in partnership with low-income families.
"With this laundry pair, every time a Whirlpool family cares for each other through the simple act of washing clothing, they will help families around the country have a roof over their heads, a safe place to live or a home to start over," said Chelsey Lindstrom, brand manager, Whirlpool brand. "We are in this business to help families thrive."
Care is a tough job and caring for your family is a round-the-clock responsibility. Making philanthropy automatic in this way means people don't have to stop what they're doing to help make a difference. The option to donate through the Connect to care(TM) program and the monetary amount option selected is up to what each individual is willing to give per load of laundry.
Care is Thinking Ahead: Amazon Dash Replenishment
As one of the first appliance brands to announce the use of Amazon Dash Replenishment, the laundry pair also estimates when consumers are running low on laundry supplies and automatically orders more. When consumers sync their Whirlpool® mobile app with their Amazon account, the feature estimates the amount of supplies remaining, targeting the right time to order more detergent, affresh® washer cleaner and dryer sheets. This feature helps to prevent families from running out of critical supplies just when they need to do laundry the most - whether it's right before a big game or a weekend getaway.
Care is Connected: the Whirlpool® Mobile App and the Nest Learning Thermostat
This laundry pair uses smart home technology to make caring more intuitive with the following features:
-- Through the Whirlpool® mobile app, families can remotely start or
adjust wash and dry cycles away from home. From setting the dryer to
actively tumble clothes until you get home, to receiving "Clothes Dry"
notifications when loads finish, these features help families know
exactly when the cycle has finished.
-- The Nest Thermostat integration knows when consumers are away from home.
By working together, the dryer can switch to Eco Mode to save energy
with a longer, more energy-efficient cycle when the thermostat is set to
Away mode.(2)
-- If there is a need for service, the washer and dryer display fault codes
via the Whirlpool® mobile app, to help correct common user errors with
easy how-to guides. To take customer care one step further, in the
future, owners will also be able to tap into the Whirlpool Care Agent
through the app to schedule and cancel service appointments and check on
the status of their request.
-- Activating Quiet mode allows families to disable operational sounds of
both the washer and dryer, so those who need to tip-toe around precious
naptime can still have peace of mind laundry will get done when they
need it to get done, quietly.
-- Consumers can also download a variety of specialty cycles through the
Whirlpool® mobile app, to care for a family's most important items,
from high-performance athletic wear to comforters to baby clothes.
The Smart Top Load Washer and Dryer is available nationwide at major retailers in Chrome Shadow. The washer has an MSRP of $1,399 and the dryer has an MSRP of $1,399.

MEF's Global Consumer Trust Report Highlights the Perils and Opportunities of Growing Mobile Privacy & Security Concerns
LONDON and LAS VEGAS, January 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
- 41% of mobile users are "reluctant sharers" of their personal dataÂ
- Globally, 47% of consumers would pay extra for a privacy-friendly appÂ
- 21% of mobile users currently take no action to secure their device Â
Global mobile trade body Mobile Ecosystem Forum (MEF) today unveiled the results of
its Global Consumer Trust Report in association with AVG Technologies at the Consumer
Electronics Show (CES). The third annual report studies the attitudes and behaviours
relating to privacy and security of over 5000 mobile media users in Brazil, China, France,
Germany, India, South Africa, UK and USA.
The MEF report reveals that over a third (36 per cent) of consumers are put off
downloading and using more mobile apps and services due to privacy and security concerns.
This means for the fourth consecutive year trust remains the biggest barrier to growth
across the mobile ecosystem; with more than 52 per cent of respondents in the eight
countries studied deleting apps that worried them, over a third (38 per cent) stopping
using them altogether and a fifth (21 per cent) leaving negative reviews or warning
friends.
In addition, fewer mobile users are comfortable with the idea of sharing personal
information with app and mobile service providers. In 2013, 21 per cent of those studied
said they were always happy to share personal data with an app. By 2015, this has fallen
to just 6 per cent. Whereas the number of 'reluctant sharers' who do not wish to share
personal information but know they must if they want to use the app leapt to 41 per cent
from 33 per cent last year.
Significantly, almost half (47 per cent) said they would pay extra for apps which
guaranteed the data collected would not be shared with third parties, with more than one
in six (17 per cent) willing to pay a premium of more than 10% to ensure their data is
protected.
When it comes to device security, 23 per cent of mobile users who secure their device
now use more than one method of protection, with biometrics increasing from 7 per cent to
11 per cent year on year. However, 21 per cent of the study's respondents still take no
action to secure their device, suggesting consumer awareness still has some way to go.
MEF CEO Rimma Perelmuter commented "MEF's 4th Global Consumer Trust Report highlights
the significant consequences of consumers' growing concerns around data privacy and
security on the mobile ecosystem. Behavioural trends among consumers such as deleting apps
or ceasing to use apps already downloaded are clear indicators that the industry has to do
more to build a sustained and trusted relationship with consumers.
With 41% of mobile users identified as "reluctant sharers" of their personal data, the
MEF Report is a wake-up call to the mobile industry to collaborate and do more to instil
transparency and consumer trust in mobile services. This is why we continue to champion
industry best practice via our Global Consumer Trust Initiative and why such a broad
cross-section of the mobile industry are taking an active role.
Concurrently, the MEF Report identifies a clear opportunity for businesses that put
trust at the heart of their business with 47% willing to pay extra for privacy-friendly
apps. This is just one example of how the mobile industry can look to cater to the
trust-conscious consumer by establishing exciting new business models and services that
recognise mobile users with different needs."
"We must cooperate as an industry to go beyond simply being 'good enough' at
protecting our customers," said Harvey Anderson, Chief Legal Officer for AVG Technologies.
"Transparency and education need to go hand-in-hand with an industrywide commitment to
establish and hold each other to human-centered principles. People should not have to
trade privacy and security to benefit from the wealth of data-enabled services that are
available now and on the horizon, and it is up to us to create the right future."
Global round-upÂ
- Reluctant sharers who share data only because they have no other choice if they
want to use the app account for half of US and German mobile users (53% and 47%
respectively), a rise of a quarter in the US and a third in Germany.
- Concern around data privacy and security is greatest in China, USA and Germany (39%
vs. the 36% total). Chinese consumers have the highest security concerns (19%),
whereas Americans are most put off by data-hungry apps (18%).
- In Brazil, consumers currently assign greater sensitivity to their photos than their
financial information (28% vs. 11%). In India, contact information (23%) is considered
most sensitive.
