Cadence C-to-Silicon Compiler Helps Renesas Realize Quick HEVC IP Development

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDNS), a leader in global electronic design innovation, today announced that Renesas Electronics Corporation shortened its design and verification time by 70 percent by utilizing Cadence® C-to-Silicon Compiler to develop High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) intellectual property (IP), targeting consumer 4K video devices. This enabled the company to quickly offer their customers IP supporting this next-generation video codec.

Renesas established its own coding style and reduced code size by almost half with SystemC to create the HEVC IP at a high level of abstraction. This enabled verification times that were six times faster than register-transfer level (RTL). This approach also enabled Renesas to use C-to-Silicon Compiler to explore many algorithmic implementations to generate high-performance RTL while minimizing power consumption and chip area. To eliminate any potential schedule impact from a significant engineering change order (ECO) late in the project, Renesas developed an ECO flow utilizing C-to-Silicon Compiler with Encounter(®) Conformal(®) ECO Designer. This allowed them to use high-level synthesis to quickly apply and verify a patch to stay on schedule.

THALWIL, Switzerland, Jan. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Swiss u-blox (SIX: UBXN), a leading provider of wireless and positioning chips and modules, introduces the TOBY-L2 and MPCI-L2 modem series, the company's new line of ultra-compact LTE modules with UMTS/HSPA+ and GSM/EDGE, GPRS fallback. Supporting LTE category 4 speeds up to 150 Mbit/s down and 50 Mbit/s up, they are ideally suited for vehicle infotainment systems, tablets, notebooks, set top boxes, ruggedized mobile terminals, as well as high-speed M2M applications such as digital signage, mobile health, remote security and video systems, where backwards compatibility with 3G and 2G networks is desired.

The TOBY-L2 module in a 152-pin LGA package supports data and Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) with circuit-switched fallback, as well as in-band modem for emergency call services (e.g. eCall). As part of the pitch process to top management that saw the FT-1 concept selected for construction and display on the international auto show circuit, Calty sought a way to help key executives (including Akio Toyoda) better experience the concept.  Calty approached Polyphony about utilizing the Gran Turismo game physics to help create a driving simulator experience that could physically communicate the performance and emotion of the high-performance concept.  For the day of design selection, the Polyphony team was able to bring the Toyota FT-1 to life in a virtual world that captured the excitement, passion, and performance conveyed by the concept model.

This exciting concept is a spiritual pacecar for Toyota's future design direction. Penned by enthusiast designers at Toyota's Calty Design Research facility in Newport Beach, California, the vibrant concept represents Toyota's vision of the ultimate high-performance sports car. Its name is derived from Future Toyota (FT), and the number "1" as in ultimate.  The unparalleled physics engine in GT6 will bring the FT-1 to life for a gaming community eager to get behind the wheel of this aggressive, track-focused, visionary sports car concept.

Gran Turismo continues to be at the forefront of development with the world's most recognized automotive brands, pushing the racing simulator beyond gaming's boundaries to affect the broader automotive industry as a whole. GT6, the latest iteration of the best-selling franchise, comes complete with the most realistic physics engine and massive online functionality, while offering a staggering collection of more than 1,200 of the world's best cars and 37 tracks - with many of those cars coming first to GT6 thanks to unique partnerships like the one with Toyota.

Drivers will also be able to purchase the vehicle from the Toyota dealership in the simulator without having to complete the seasonal event.

(NASDAQ: CDNS) today introduced a new version of the Incisive® functional verification platform, once again setting a new standard for overall verification performance and productivity. Addressing both intellectual property (IP) block-to-chip and system-on-chip (SoC) verification challenges, the Incisive 13.2 platform offers orders of magnitude faster performance with two new engines and additional automation features to speed SoC verification closure.

For IP block-to-chip verification, enhancements include:

    --  New Trident engine in the Incisive Formal Verifier and the Incisive
        Enterprise Verifier, which improves formal analysis performance up to
        20X
    --  New constraint engine in the Incisive Enterprise Simulator that speeds
        UVM and SystemVerilog testbench simulation, and simulation acceleration
        with the Palladium® platform by up to 10X
    --  New SystemVerilog support in Incisive Debug Analyzer plus unique UVM
        debug capabilities and optimized probing in the SimVision debug
        environment inside Incisive Enterprise Simulator that reduces database
        size up to 10X
    --  New IEEE 1647 e unit testing without simulation, reducing debug time for
        testbench code by 30%
For SoC verification, enhancements include:

    --  Comprehensive x-propagation support in the Incisive Enterprise Simulator
        and the Incisive Enterprise Verifier to speed SoC reset and low-power
        simulations up to 5X
    --  New support for SystemVerilog IEEE 1800-2012 real number modeling in the
        Incisive Digital Mixed Signal option for faster mixed-signal simulation
        over 100X.

    While we continue to hear mixed economic messages about growth and austerity, there's
always been at least one constant; the UK Government states repeatedly that Britain is
committed to being a world leader in Internet Technologies and a valuable demonstration of

Voucher Scheme.

organisations e.g. voluntary services, social enterprises and charities, to make major

installing a completely new system.

    With one of the most extensive private networks in the UK, M247 is well placed to
service this scheme in each of the cities and has a broad range of the latest connectivity
technologies that go way beyond what's generally understood as "broadband".

    This is considered to be a valuable opportunity to make significant improvements to
connectivity around the UK and the Government says it plans to maintain the scheme until

Company marks historic moment in digital currency progress

SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Overstock.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: OSTK) announces it now accepts Bitcoin as a form of payment on its online shopping site.

Customers can shop the Overstock.com website for any of the over 1 million products available, including furniture, rugs, electronics and jewelry.  Once items are selected and placed in the customer's shopping cart, Bitcoin is a payment choice along with Visa, MasterCard and PayPal.

Digital currency will be an important part of the future and Overstock is excited to be the first major online shopping retailer to accept it," states Overstock.com Chairman and CEO Patrick M. Byrne.  "As one who believes in limited government, this attracts me because it is a form of money that no government mandarin can will it into existence."

Byrne noted that Bitcoin is the world's most widely used cryptocurrency.  The Bitcoin peer-to-peer network is made up of thousands of computers run by individuals around the world and doesn't answer to a central authority.  It is similar to gold in that its supply is constrained mathematically to up to 21 million units that will grow in a predictable manner.

"Bitcoin is well suited for online transactions.  It has no transaction fees and works well for international customers.  Providing this convenience for the cult-following Bitcoin customer is the smart thing to do," continues Byrne.  "Other online companies will have to follow suit soon."

Overstock.com is partnering with Coinbase.com out of San Francisco, Calif., to process the payments and to handle the conversion of Bitcoin into U.S. dollars.  Byrne says, "Coinbase has been a dream to work with on this project."

The Canadian Open Data Experience (CODE) will challenge entrepreneurs
and innovators from coast to coast to create open data applications in
just 48 hours and compete for over $30,000 in prizes

competitive hackathon, XMG Studio Inc., and supported by the Government
of Canada, the Canadian Open Data Experience (CODE) aims to inspire an
entire generation of developers and designers to develop apps based on
open data. From February 28(th) to March 2(nd) creative do-ers, movers and shakers are invited to participate in this
race against the clock and liberate the data available on http://data.gc.ca. All teams that successfully submit an application compete for Gold
Sponsor OpenText's $25,000 Grand Prize, as well as a $5,000 second
place prize and a $1,000 third place prize.

SMiT Announces the Successful Launch of the Irdeto CI + 1.3 Unified Client CAM Only on My-HD

HONG KONG, Jan. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- SMiT, a global leader in the design and development of conditional access modules (CAMs), announces the successful launch of the Irdeto CI + 1.3 Unified Client CAM to the MENA market, only on My-HD. The Unified Client CAM has been integrated with both Cloaked CA and Softcell.

Irdeto Cloaked CA, a cardless conditional access (CA) solution, which provides a dynamic content protection without the cost and complexity of managing physical smart cards, helps facilitate an advanced method for operators functioning on multiple networks.

The Irdeto Cloaked CA solution with a unified hardware and software security client will enable multiple operators to utilize a single, common STB (Set Top Box) in a fully independent and secure way, which is a direct benefit for subscribers.
