IBM to Produce Micron's Hybrid Memory Cube in Debut of First Commercial, 3D Chip-Making Capability
New process creates 15-times-faster memory in 90% smaller package
ARMONK, N.Y. and BOISE, Idaho, Dec. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --IBM (NYSE: IBM) and Micron Technology, Inc. announced today that Micron will begin production of a new memory device built using the first commercial CMOS manufacturing technology to employ through-silicon vias (TSVs). IBM's advanced TSV chip-making process enables Micron's Hybrid Memory Cube (HMC) to achieve speeds 15 times faster than today's technology.
IBM will present the details of its TSV manufacturing breakthrough at the IEEE International Electron Devices Meeting on December 5 in Washington, DC.
HMC parts will be manufactured at IBM's advanced semiconductor fab in East Fishkill, N.Y., using the company's 32nm, high-K metal gate process technology.
HMC technology uses advanced TSVs -- vertical conduits that electrically connect a stack of individual chips -- to combine high-performance logic with Micron's state-of-the-art DRAM. HMC delivers bandwidth and efficiencies a leap beyond current device capabilities. HMC prototypes, for example, clock in with bandwidth of 128 gigabytes per second (GB/s). By comparison, current state-of-the-art devices deliver 12.8 GB/s. HMC also requires 70 percent less energy to transfer data while offering a small form factor -- just 10 percent of the footprint of conventional memory.
HMC will enable a new generation of performance in applications ranging from large-scale networking and high-performance computing, to industrial automation and, eventually, consumer products.

Vimicro Announces Intention to Spin Off Mobile Unit into a New Joint Venture
BEIJING, Dec. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia-FirstCall/ -- Vimicro International Corporation (NASDAQ: VIMC) ("Vimicro" or the "Company"), a leading multimedia semiconductor and IP-based surveillance solution provider, today announced its intention to spin off its mobile-phone multimedia processor business (the "Mobile Business"). The spin-off would involve a workforce reduction of approximately 180-200 related employees, or roughly 21-23% of the Company's total headcount, as well as the disposal of related assets. This divestiture is part of the Company's continuing efforts to align its resources and expenses with opportunities in and focus on the PC/Notebook multimedia processor and IP-based surveillance businesses.
The Company expects to receive approximately $1.5 million in cash from the sale of the Mobile Business assets, which valuation is based on an independent appraisal. One-time restructuring costs and charges are estimated at approximately $3 million, which will be recorded in the fourth quarter of 2011. A new joint venture will be established to independently run the Mobile Business, in which Vimicro and other related parties will own a 51% equity interest. Following the spin-off, the Mobile Business will be considered an equity investment and will no longer be consolidated.
Vimicro's Board of Directors, Audit Committee and a special independent committee reviewed, discussed, and approved the proposed restructuring arrangements during several meetings in October and November. The Audit Committee and a special independent committee, each consisting entirely of independent directors, considered, among other things, a valuation report of the Mobile Business assets from an independent appraiser and advice from outside legal counsel when evaluating the proposed transactions.

Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL) announces that from 1 March 2012 it will
be unifying the names of its satellites around the established Eutelsat brand. From this
date, the Group's satellites will take the Eutelsat name associated with the relevant
figure for their orbital position and a letter indicating their order of arrival at that
position. This new system has been devised to support Eutelsat's efforts to communicate
its satellite branding and deployment in a consistent and homogenous way.
The logical pattern Eutelsat has selected will enable its growing community of users
across all markets to immediately identify where a satellite is located - a key metric in
the commercial satellite sector - and its chronology at the neighbourhood it occupies.
Current in-orbit satellites will for example be renamed as follows:
- W6 at 21.5degree(s) East will become EUTELSAT 21A.
To ensure clarity, satellites located at Eutelsat's four 'West' positions will include
West in their name. For example:
- ATLANTIC BIRD(TM) 2 will become EUTELSAT 8 West A.
Eutelsat's HOT BIRD(TM) brand, which over 20 years has acquired a high and established
reputation in the satellite TV industry, will be retained. It will be more closely
associated with the Eutelsat name and adopt the numbering system to be implemented for all
other satellites. For example HOT BIRD(TM) 6 will become EUTELSAT HOT BIRD 13A. The same
pattern will apply to KA-SAT.

Until this date Eutelsat's current satellite names will continue to be used.

Rocketfish Battery Case for iPhone 3G/3GS Recalled by Best Buy Due to Fire Hazard
WASHINGTON, Nov. 30, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.
Name of Product: Rocketfish(TM) Model RF-KL12 Mobile Battery Cases for iPhone 3G and 3GS
Units: About 31,000 in the U.S. and about 1,000 in Canada
Importer: Best Buy Co. Inc., of Richfield, Minn.
Hazard: The battery case can overheat while charging, posing a fire hazard.
Incidents/Injuries: CPSC and the firm have received about 14 reports of the battery cases overheating in the United States, including three reports of minor burns to consumers and four reports of minor property damage.
Description: This recall includes the Rocketfish(TM) Model RF-KL12 Mobile Battery Case. The battery case is made of black lightweight, soft-touch rubberized material designed to hold the phone securely, and comes with a built-in battery. The model number "RF-KL12" appears on the front of the product's packaging, on the packaging barcode, and in white print on the curved inner surface of the product.
Sold exclusively at: Best Buy stores nationwide, Future Shop and Best Buy stores in Canada, and online from about April 2010 through about September 2011 for between $10 and $60.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the product and contact Best Buy for instructions on returning the product and receiving a Best Buy gift card for $70 or $105 in Canada.
