STM32L Series - Further Technical Details
-- Continua PHDC USB Package
The USB Personal Healthcare Device Class (PHDC) is the first wired communication transport layer approved and adopted by the Continua Health Alliance, an open industry consortium that has more than 230 member companies around the world, including ST, with the mission to harmonize developments in the healthcare sector.
ST provides the PHDC USB package with a medical application's USB stack on the STM32L MCU along with a complete set of USB classes, such as mass storage, human interface devices, audio and DFU for firmware updates in the field. This stack is based on USB PHDC and IEEE-11073 standards and enables communication between the device and the host according to Continua standards. The STM32L's integrated USB 2.0 Full Speed support also makes the devices 'handset ready'.
-- Security and Safe-System Features
In addition to its extreme energy efficiency, the STM32L series also has many features promoting data security and safe system operation, including flexible Brown-Out Reset; on-board Flash with Error Correction Code (ECC) support; a Memory Protection Unit (MPU); and JTAG fuse. These features are recommended for all applications that require safe product behavior and highly secure code and user-data management.
-- EnergyLite(TM) Platform Architecture
The key to the STM32L's industry-leading energy efficiency is ST's ultra low-power EnergyLite(TM) platform. This platform is also common to ST's 8-bit STM8L MCU family and is based on 130nm proprietary technology, which is optimized for ultra-low leakage to maximize efficiency when the microcontroller is active or when sleeping. In addition, its embedded memory is based on a unique low-power Flash technology developed by ST. Integrated support for Direct Memory Access (DMA) allows peripherals to remain active, allowing developers to realize significant savings by turning off the Flash - and the CPU - while the application is running. Additionally, the STM32L's embedded LCD drivers enable easier, cheaper and smaller application designs.
-- Ultra-Low-Power Modes
In addition to its underlying process-related power savings, the STM32L series provides numerous features allowing developers to optimize the application power consumption. Six ultra-low-power modes allow the device to fulfill its tasks while consuming the least possible energy at any given time.
The available modes (for 1.8V and 3V at 25°C) are:
-- 9uA at 1.8V/3V in Low-Power Run mode at 32kHz
-- 4.9uA at 1.8V/3V in Low-Power Sleep mode with one timer active
-- 1.3uA at 1.8V and 1.6uA at 3V in STOP mode: Real-Time Clock (RTC),
context preserved, RAM retention
-- 0.45uA at 1.8V and 0.5uA at 3V in STOP mode: no RTC, context preserved,
RAM retention
-- 1.0uA at 1.8V and 1.3uA at 3V in Stand-By mode: RTC, back-up register
preserved
-- 0.3uA at 1.8V/3V in Stand-By mode: no RTC, Back-up register preserved
The two low-power modes - 'Low-Power Run' and 'Low-Power Sleep' - have been implemented in the STM32L series, to drastically reduce power consumption at low frequency operation by using an ultra-low-power regulator and oscillator. The regulator allows current demand to be independent from the supply voltage.
-- Energy Efficiency
The STM32L also offers dynamic voltage scaling, a power-efficient system that allows dynamic changing of speed and voltage at runtime, thereby increasing energy efficiency without impacting performance, in particular for medium and low operating frequencies. The current drawn, in normal Run mode, from Flash memory is as low as 222uA/MHz and the STM32L delivers a consumption/performance ratio as low as 180uA/DMIPS.
In addition, the STM32L circuitry is designed to deliver high performance at low voltages, which enables battery-operated equipment to operate for longer before recharging. The integrated analog features are capable of operating at supply voltages down to 1.8V. The digital functions are able to operate from a supply voltage as low as 1.65V, allowing prolonged operation in battery-powered equipment as the battery voltage decays.
-- 256 and 384-Kbyte MCU Features
The new 256 and 384-Kbyte STM32L MCUs will also offer dual-bank Flash for Read-while-Write operation, an external memory interface, additional communication peripherals, SDIO interface, up to three low-bias operational amplifiers, a 32-bit timer, and a 40-channel ADC with 39-channel touch sensing.
-- STMTouch(TM) Firmware Library
ST's third-generation STMTouch(TM) capacitive-touch-sensing firmware library supports touch detection via charge-transfer, which delivers high sensitivity and robustness. In addition, simultaneous channel acquisition reduces CPU usage to help designers optimize application features and power consumption. The library also provides improved wheel and slider controls that feature 256-level resolution while using only three microcontroller I/Os as sensor channels.
Touch controls implemented using the STMTouch firmware library occupy a low memory footprint and require minimal use of STM32L peripherals, allowing developers to consolidate user-interface and application tasks in a single device. In addition, ST's PC-based STM Studio software, used in conjunction with the touch-sensing library, offers an easy-to-use GUI that provides visual indication of sensor responses and enables developers to tune touch-sensing parameters.

IBM Helps Cities Take the Guesswork Out of City Services
New Web site analyzes publicly available data to improve transportation, energy, health, and education
ARMONK, N.Y., March 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM (NYSE: IBM) today inaugurated a free Web site called City Forward (http://www.cityforward.org). It's designed to improve the quality of life in cities of all sizes around the world by helping officials make sounder and more scientific decisions on city services.
The site gives policy makers, citizen-advocates and the public a new perspective on how their respective cities are performing compared with others. It serves up easy-to-use data to help them make more informed decisions that improve services and make their citizens and businesses healthier, happier, safer, more productive and prosperous.
It captures vital statistics on the performance of many specific services such as education, safety, health, transportation, land use, utilities, energy, environment, personal income, spending, population growth and employment. Any citizen, advocate, government official and academic worldwide can then gather, compare, analyze, visualize, and discuss statistical trends, giving them real-world insight that can help shape public policy -- before laws are amended or passed.
Official data that reflects a city's well being may be publicly available, but they are often scattered or exist in a hodgepodge of formats, making it hard to compare one city or service to another. Even within a single city, such data is often published independently by individual agencies, making it hard to see the bigger picture. City Forward addresses these issues by bringing useful statistics and graphing tools together in one place, offering easier and more insightful analysis.
People might log onto the site to compare their hometown with a noted success shown for another, comparable city. They can then devise strategies to replicate those successes. The software also helps people spot unforeseen patterns and relationships between city life and governmental policies. City Forward can tap into new or diverse measures of daily life, and help people examine how one issue might affect another, seemingly unrelated issue. It can then spur new ideas that take advantage of these insights and assist people in predicting the results.
For instance, data in City Forward that measures traffic jams in a given city might not only speak volumes about commuting habits and road conditions, but also correlate to economic impact and air quality. Consequently, a city may then decide to make the wireless Internet more readily accessible in the hopes of encouraging telecommuting, reducing traffic jams, improving the air, or giving students access to additional academic resources -- making for safer, more educated and prosperous cities.
A city looking to measure the true efficacy of a progressive health insurance or public health plan could use the Web site to analyze hospital emergency room visits, tax revenue, disease outbreak or even employee absenteeism. Or, a city contemplating higher tolls during certain times of day might choose to analyze and correlate traffic patterns, air quality, pedestrian safety, or local economic activity.
Users can even create their own "explorations" -- customized, visually compelling graphics and charts -- that bring their academic studies to life for all to see and comment upon. Interactive discussions about the implication of a statistical trend can then be held. Advocacy groups or civic leaders might use such an exploration to gain consensus, validate a recommended policy, recommend the modification or create a public program.
Initially, data from 55 cities of all sizes across six continents are available. Helping cities make even more informed decisions, City Forward will eventually incorporate top tier analytics technology to not only examine the past, but help people predict likely developments and outcomes based on trends.
Amy Liu, senior fellow and deputy director of the Metropolitan Policy Program at The Brookings Institution, said: "Today's city and metropolitan leaders are overwhelmed by the rapidity of technological, economic and demographic change and the deluge of data and information. Providing leaders with tools to help them access, make sense of, and visualize the data and trends shaping their community will go a long way in helping them make smart decisions and effectively adapt to and lead in today's global marketplace."
"City Forward substitutes data for intuition, making cities more livable, maintaining both government transparency, and civic literacy," said Stanley S. Litow, IBM vice president of Corporate Citizenship & Corporate Affairs, and President of IBM's Foundation. "Ultimately, obtaining unique insights into information will help society make smarter and more informed decisions to benefit the public good."
Regions may also choose to use City Forward when competing for, or implementing an IBM Smarter Cities Challenge grant. The Smarter Cities Challenge is a competitive, IBM grant program providing $50 million worth of technology and consulting services to 100 cities worldwide over three years. One of the conditions for Smarter Cities Challenge Grants asks cities to clearly articulate local urban challenges that technology might help address. Insights gleaned from City Forward can help identify problem areas and point to new and innovative strategies that address them.
IBM designed and built the City Forward software under its philanthropic program, and collaborated in its design and execution with universities, cities and a range of not-for-profits such as The Brookings Institution, MIT and NYU. The company owns and manages the Web site as a free, public service and will continue to voluntarily add publicly available data and information. Over time, IBM will widen the type and amount of information contained, the number of cities represented, and its features and functions.
The interest in cities as social and economic powerhouses has marched higher in lockstep with their global growth. In 2008, according to the United Nations, more than half the world's human population began living in cities for the first time in the world's history.
IBM has been a leader in corporate social responsibility and corporate citizenship for 100 years. IBM puts initiatives into place that address vital issues, such as the environment, community economic development, education, health, literacy, language and culture. IBM deploys its most valuable resources -- technology and talent -- to bring these programs to fruition. Since 2003, more than 170,000 IBM employees have shared more than 11 million hours of service, transforming communities in more than 70 countries. The expertise and time shared during that time is estimated to be valued at one-quarter of a billion U.S. dollars.

Atmel Releases Automotive-Qualified 32-bit AVR MCU Family for Motor Control Applications
Dual CAN Controller Combined with High-Speed PWM, ADC, DAC and Analog Comparator Channels Suited for Real-Time, Intensive Motor Control Applications
NUREMBERG, Germany, March 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Embedded World Nuremberg 2011 -- Atmel® Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML), a leader in microcontroller and touch solutions, today announced the release of the Atmel UC3C AT32UC3C0512C AVR® microcontroller with 512KB of embedded flash memory. As a committed supplier to the automotive industry, Atmel continues to bring new automotive-qualified microcontroller (MCU) solutions to market. This device is the first member of a 32-bit AVR MCU family dedicated to motor control applications such as HVAC, power window, power doors and power seats, featuring PWM controller and analog functions on-chip for direct motor control, as well as automotive interface on-chip (CAN, LIN) for in-car communication. The new Atmel AVR UC3C family will also be available as true 5V devices up to 125 degrees C.
Atmel UC3C automotive-qualified MCUs offer all the necessary features required for even the toughest motor control applications. For instance, in sensorless brushless DC motors (BLDCs), the UC3C family efficiently controls the motor by incorporating a fast 4-channel PWM controller with a 20-bit precision, dead-time generation and fault protection, a 16-channel, 12-bit pipelined analog-to-digital converter (ADC), a 4-channel 12-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC), an embedded temperature sensor as well as four analog comparators for back-electromagnetic force (EMF) sensing.
Other features of the new UC3C family include an independent peripheral event system coupled with DMA channels to allow inter-peripheral communication without CPU intervention and to eliminate potential jitter. This guarantees a two-cycle latency between the completion of one peripheral operation and the start of another. The family also includes powerful algorithms, such as field oriented control (park and clack transformations), and includes an IEEE 754-1985-compatible floating point unit (FPU), which increases the performance, precision and dynamic range of calculations. The use of the FPU enhances signal processing, filtering and noise suppression.
With a dual CAN interface, five LIN2.1-compliant independent universal synchronous/asynchronous receiver/transmitters (USART), and five I2C-compatible two wire interfaces (TWI), the UC3 family is perfectly equipped to communicate via standard in-car networks.
"We adapted our embedded software to support the UC3C," said Holger Soehnle, product manager for Embedded Software at Vector Informatik GmbH. "Already available are two operating systems: the OSEK-conformant osCAN and the AUTOSAR-conformant MICROSAR OS. Furthermore, CANbedded communication software for CAN and LIN is available--as well as a Flash Bootloader--since this is required in most modern automotive applications. Our embedded software is preferred by a large number of automotive OEMs."
"One of the critical requirements for using embedded processors in the automotive market is the availability of effective and well-supported communication software. The high-quality product portfolio of Vector's CAN and LIN stacks make this company an ideal partner for Atmel's 32-bit automotive microcontroller product line," said Stephan Thaler, MCU marketing manager, Atmel Automotive Business Unit.
The UC3C family also embeds a time division multiplexed inter-IC sound controller (I2S), an Ethernet MAC 10/100Mps interface and a USB 2.0 interface. With an embedded flash vault code protection--a flash security technology that allows the on-chip flash to be partially programmed and locked--the device offers a secure on-chip storage for secret code and software intellectual property. These features also allow the device to carry valuable software from a trusted location to another location where the rest of the source code can be developed, debugged and programmed.
The new UC3C series has up to 512KB embedded flash, with 10,000 write cycles and 15-year data retention. It is possible to lock selected regions of the flash to secure the embedded software. The UC3C also has up to 64KB of embedded SRAM. The devices are designed for 3.0 - 5.5V operation with a true 5V operation, qualified as automotive-grade 1 products supporting a temperature range from -40 degrees C to +125 degrees C.
Availability and Pricing
Samples of the UC3C device AT32UC3C0512C are now available in 144-pin LQFP, 100-pin QFP, 64-pin QFP and QFN packages. Pricing starts at USD $5.83 for quantities of 10,000. To simplify and accelerate product design, the UC3C-EK evaluation kit, STK600 starter kit and AVR UC3C Software Framework are available.

D2S and NuFlare Partner to Reduce Write Times for Complex 22-nm Photomasks
D2S Option to NuFlare EBM-7000 System Enables Design for E-Beam (DFEB) Mask Technology
SAN JOSE, Calif., March 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Fellow eBeam Initiative members D2S(TM), an emerging supplier of computational design platforms, and NuFlare Technology, Inc., a world leader in electron beam mask writing systems, today announced a partnership to provide a D2S option for the NuFlare EBM-7000 mask writing system. A new interface developed between NuFlare and D2S enables the overlapping of shots that was previously not allowed in NuFlare machines. Further, NuFlare today announced that the EBM-7000 and its next-generation variable-shaped beam (VSB) systems will become field upgradable in the future with another new option to provide seven dose levels per VSB shape to utilize a wide variety of mask-process-correction (MPC) applications exploiting modulated doses.
Currently, NuFlare VSB systems do not control the dose on a per-VSB-shape basis. By combining the dose control option with the D2S option, the D2S design for e-beam (DFEB) mask technology can take advantage of per-shot dose control. With D2S DFEB mask technology, NuFlare's EBM-7000 and next-generation systems will be able to write complex mask patterns in acceptable write times--improving wafer yield while reducing the overall manufacturing cost of complex 22-nm photomasks. This partnership demonstrates the continued adoption and support for DFEB mask technology to further extend optical lithography to the 22-nm node.
Complex sub-resolution assist features (SRAFs) on photomasks aid in producing higher depth of focus, which is critical for wafer yield at the 22-nm node. Higher mask costs result from increased shot counts and limit the usage of complex SRAFs. D2S and NuFlare worked together to create a new interface and enhance the EBM-7000 and next-generation systems to accept overlapping shots. As a result, when using the D2S option, the NuFlare system's VSB-12 reader accepts overlapping shots.
In addition to improved write times, the overlapping shot technique leads to better critical dimension uniformity on the mask, particularly for small SRAFs less than 80 nm in width, which in turn leads to better uniformity on the wafer, and can result in higher wafer yield.
Hirokazu Yamada, senior manager for strategic planning, Mask Lithography Division, NuFlare Technology, Inc.,explained, "Our EBM-7000system together with D2S DFEB mask technology enables our customers to reduce the shot count required to write complex masks and is particularly suitable for the 22-nm node. The ability to optimize the DFEB mask technology for the EBM-7000 and next-generation systems using overlapping shots will help broaden the adoption. We value our partnership with D2S as we continue to develop cost-effective solutions for the production of advanced optical photomasks."
"D2S and NuFlare's collaboration is critical for accelerating the adoption of DFEB mask technology for our customers," stated Aki Fujimura, president and CEO of D2S and managing sponsor of the eBeam Initiative. "The validation of our DFEB mask capability for the EBM-7000 system means that most semiconductor companies worldwide will have the ability to evaluate new and improved paths to 22 nm using optical lithography. This is once again evidence of the need and potential for design-to-manufacturing collaboration."
At the Alternative Lithographic Technologies III Conference during the 2011 SPIE Advanced Lithography Symposium, eBeam Initiative members NuFlare and D2S will present a paper titled "Model-based Mask Data Preparation and Impact on Resist Heating" during Session 8 on Wednesday, March 2. In addition, Aki Fujimura of D2S will deliver the keynote address "A Comparison of Maskless Technologies" during Session 1 on Tuesday, March 1. SPIE Advanced Lithography 2011 will be held February 27-March 3 at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, Calif.

MadPak and MadPak ML are the only technical communication suites in which all products are highly integrated to create a seamless experience for documentation professionals, translators, and other content authors. For example:
-- Enable subject matter experts (SMEs) and managers to provide the author
with content and feedback on drafts using Contributor.
-- Author and publish technical documentation, knowledge bases, policy and
procedures, and more, using Flare--in print, on the Web, on desktops, or
even on mobile devices.
-- Provide screenshots with callouts using Capture.
-- Create interactive software simulation movies and video tutorials with
Mimic.
-- Scan, identify and fix any content issues in advance of publishing with
Analyzer.
-- Use MadCap Lingo with full translation memory support to translate
content without requiring any file transfers--preserving both the
content and formatting. Also use MadCap Lingo to provide content
statistics, such as word count and translation estimates to facilitate
project and budget planning.
"The newest releases of our MadPak and MadPak ML technical communication suites significantly advance our commitment to ensuring that companies can offer everyone access to the content they need, whenever and wherever they need it--while streamlining the entire authoring, review, translation, and multi-channel publishing process," said Anthony Olivier, MadCap founder and CEO. "With QR code support, authors can now turn static print information into actionable content that empowers users in ways never before possible. Meanwhile, new accessibility features automate much of the process of ensuring that documentation meets government standards for supporting the vision and hearing impaired."
Olivier added, "At the same time, we've also extended our commitment to creating a superior experience for the users of our software by integrating with Microsoft SharePoint and Apache Subversion to enhance collaboration and version control, delivering new functionality for publishing equations and vector graphics, and adding an extensive list of usability enhancements to our MadPak and MakPak ML suites."
MadCap Flare 7.0
Flare is MadCap's flagship software for single-source, multi-channel authoring and publishing. With Version 7.0, MadCap Flare becomes the first authoring software to include a built-in QR code generator that lets writers insert QR codes into content files. In doing so, MadCap extends its leadership in mobile publishing and bridges the gap between static print documentation and searchable, mobile content. It builds on MadCap Flare's leadership as the only authoring software that allows for native, intuitive publishing of any documentation to mobile devices. Flare 7.0 also features:
-- Enhanced support for government accessibility standards aimed at making
documentation more accessible to users who have visual and hearing
impairments.
-- Microsoft SharePoint integration, so Flare users can connect to
SharePoint servers within their organizations to access and edit
SharePoint files from within any Flare project.
-- Native support for Apache Subversion to facilitate version control among
authors who collaborate on content.
-- A new built-in Equation Editor that supports the Mathematical Markup
Language (MathML) for describing mathematical notations in XML.
-- New track changes feature that allows authors to view changes made to
content files edited in the XML Editor and accept or reject those
alterations individually or in an entire group.
-- Enhanced print publishing via support for three types of vector image
files for generating PDF output: EPS, PS and SVG.
For more detail on these new and enhanced features in Flare 7.0, see the press release on MadCap Flare 7.0 also dated March 1, 2011.
"Flare 7.0 is easily the most versatile and capable authoring tool that I've used," says David Lee, Sage Ltd. senior technical author. "MadCap clearly listens to their customers, and their support is second to none."
"One of the strengths of all of MadCap's products is the tight integration of their applications--both within a specific application and across the MadCap family of products--and with Flare 7.0, MadCap has a well-designed release with something for everyone," notes Ed Marshall, founder of Marshall Documentation Consulting.
MadCap Contributor
MadCap Contributor consolidates all the functionality of the MadCap X-Edit product family into a single application that allows a company's subject-matter experts and managers to easily edit and contribute content to Flare projects--without having to learn the advanced features of Flare. Additionally, it enables documentation professionals to pre-define templates, so that content from casual contributors is automatically placed into the correct format.
MadCap Contributor builds on the functionality of X-Edit by adding key new features.
-- QR code support means authors can use the XML Editor to quickly and
easily add QR codes, which can be read by many smart phones and other
mobile devices with built-in barcode readers. The data encoded in the QR
code can be text, a website URL, an email address, contact information,
or short message service (SMS) for sending text messages. For example, a
quick start guide might feature a QR code at the bottom of each page
that takes people to a website for more detailed information on that
page's content.
-- SharePoint integration enables users to connect to SharePoint servers
within their organizations to access SharePoint files from MadCap
Contributor, allowing users to take advantage of SharePoint's
capabilities for collaboration, file sharing, and publishing to the Web.
-- Equations are now supported through the Mathematical Markup Language
(MathML) for describing mathematical notations in XML. MathML in
Contributor lets authors embed virtually any kind of mathematical
equation in the XML Editor.
-- Vector graphics support includes three types of vector image files for
generating PDF output: EPS, PS and SVG. This produces a much crisper
image in printed documents, maintaining clarity even when the graphic
size is reduced.
MadCap Analyzer starts by identifying issues within Flare projects, such as broken links, missing images, or inconsistent index keywords. Then it goes beyond to proactively recommend corrections and improvements, such as where to add a snippet for content re-use, consolidate styles, add an index keyword, and much more.
Analyzer 4.0 significantly extends the ability to analyze Flare content in order to ensure that it is accessible to users who have visual and hearing impairments, and it complies with standards such as Section 508 of the US Rehabilitation Act and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). The Analyzer Summary window pane allows authors to view all the accessibility issues that are found. From there, authors can customize the accessibility suggestions that are shown and resolve any accessibility issues before content is published. Accessibility issues tracked by Analyzer 4.0 include:
-- Image elements missing alternate text.
-- QR code elements missing alternate text.
-- Equation elements missing alternate text.
-- Tables missing captions and summaries.
-- Tables missing header rows.
-- Form elements missing labels.
-- Frame elements missing titles and names.
MadCap Analyzer 4.0 also features a new File Issues viewer, mark-up suggestions, scan options, scanning optimization, an XML validator, and new and improved reports and window panes.

New Platform Allows Big Name Brands to Dramatically Increase Engagement of Facebook Fans and Twitter Followers
--Drives Revenue and ROI for American Express, Red Bull, Nokia and others by allowing Brands to Incentivize Fans & Followers --
NEW YORK, March 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- One of the key social media marketing challenges facing major brands is how to engage and reward their existing collection of Facebook "fans" and Twitter "followers." Providing a powerful new solution to this need, FanGager today announced the U.S. launch of its social CRM platform, a comprehensive database that empowers brand managers to convert Facebook and Twitter fans into engaged community members and drive corporate revenue through effective social media activity. FanGager's technology has created the first brand loyalty program based on engagement and provides dynamic tools to amplify the fan's experience and increase overall ROI through a brand's social media assets.
FanGager's revolutionary CRM interface interacts with a brand's social networking resources to create a detailed analysis of its most active fans. The platform, which is wholly controlled by the brand, creates a custom tailored database of fans that tracks their social activity and engagement with the brand, allowing for a deeper understanding of community behavior.
FanGager's platform, which utilizes open Facebook and Twitter API's, has already begun successfully enhancing social media interactions between Israeli consumers and several well-known brands including Nokia, American Express, Red Bull, and the Big Brother TV program. After only two months of engagement with Nokia, the brand's engagement with fans on Facebook has more than tripled. FanGager's highly successful cross-medium promotion with Big Brother drove ratings and social media engagement, building an active community of more than 250,000 fans.
"FanGager's technology has provided us the tools to significantly increase overall fan engagement with our brand," said Anat Elhanani, Digital Marketing Manager at Eurocom Nokia.
"Simply collecting fans and followers via Facebook or Twitter isn't enough to successfully enhance a brand and drive revenue," said Eran Gefen, founder and CEO of FanGager. "Companies have to learn how to manage those followers and actively encourage them to engage with the brand in the long term."
Prior to FanGager, Gefen founded and managed Y&R Interactive in Israel and sold it to the WPP Group. He has repeatedly been recognized within the ad industry and has won the Gold Clio Award, Gold Effie Award, and 7 Lions at the Cannes Festival.
The database can be additionally leveraged with FanGager's array of tools and custom "Apps" to drive fan engagement, and ultimately revenue. These tools allow brands to reward their most avid fans with points and coins that can be redeemed for gifts and prizes. FanGager's "App Store" of Facebook applications, which is connected to the FanGager platform, enables even deeper brand engagement through custom videos, surveys and other social activities.
For a preview of how FanGager works, see the demonstration video.

Health Union Announces the Launch of Migraine.com: Online Destination Dedicated Solely to Migraine Disease Provides Unique Tools and Content
PHILADELPHIA, March 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Health Union, LLC announced today the launch of its first website, Migraine.com (http://migraine.com). This independent site will feature robust, physician-reviewed information on the clinical and social aspects of Migraine disease, as well as numerous interactive tools to help patients and caregivers better understand and manage the condition. Over time, the site will leverage its extensive community platform where patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals can learn from and share with one another.
The Impact of Migraine
Migraine disease impacts an estimated 37 million Americans. Although Migraine disease can run in families, the cause is not yet fully understood. Migraine attacks are characterized by painful and often debilitating symptoms, which may include severe head pain, neck pain, nausea, vomiting, and visual disturbances. These attacks interfere the ability to function in everyday life, whether that means going to school or work, caring for family or enjoying social activities.
Migraine ranks in the top 20 of the world's most disabling medical illnesses, and every 10 seconds someone in the United States goes to the emergency room with a headache or migraine. American employers lose more than $13 billion each year as a result of 113 million lost workdays due to Migraine. There is no cure for Migraine disease.
Due to the highly acute nature of Migraine attacks and the large number of people the disease affects, Migraine represents one of the most active patient communities on the Internet, with over one million Migraine and headache related searches online each month. Furthermore, Migraine disease affects more women than men and, as the primary healthcare decision maker in most households, women are generally more likely to take an active role in their health.
Migraine.com intends to become the largest and most informative online destination dedicated exclusively to Migraine and headache.
"I see many patients in my office each week," said Dr. Susan Hutchinson, founder and director of the Orange County Migraine and Headache Center in Irvine, California, "but through my work on Migraine.com, I can reach thousands in an instant, and I find that really gratifying. Additionally, as a Migraine patient myself, I understand and appreciate the value of the tools on Migraine.com and I recommend the site to all my patients."
Dr. Hutchinson is a member of the panel of expert contributors to Migraine.com, and she regularly blogs and publishes articles on the site.
An Engaging New Website
The new site Migraine.com features hundreds of pages of physician-reviewed content about Migraine and headache. New content is added to the site almost every day from either a physician or patient advocate and there are discussion groups and forums for patients to learn from one another. There is an "Ask The Migraine Expert" section where users can submit a question to be answered by a physician or patient advocate. All new entries are announced via Twitter (@Migrainedotcom) and on the Migraine.com Facebook page (Facebook.com/MigraineDotCom).
The site also features valuable self-management tools such as the interactive "Migraine Journal," where patients can track their personal Migraine history in a safe, secure environment. This journal data can then be shared with a physician or caregiver in print or via e-mail. Other tools include the "Symptom Checker" where patients can get a better understanding of their Migraine Symptoms, and the interactive "Migraine Majority" user polls, which allow users to share their experiences with Migraine disease.
Additionally, the Migraine Offer Center, outlines consumer savings offers on pharmaceutical products, devices, over the counter medicines, books and other Migraine-related products and services.
In addition to a panel of physicians, noted patient authors, advocates and bloggers also regularly contribute to the site.
"I am very excited about being involved with Migraine.com," said Teri Robert, author of the book Living Well With Migraine Disease and Headaches and an expert contributor and moderator on the site, "The quality, depth and breadth of content and tools of the site are outstanding. Whether you've just had your first Migraine or, like me, are a life-long Migraineur, you will find this site very engaging and helpful."
iPad Giveaway
To celebrate the launch of Migraine.com, Health Union will give away an Apple iPad ® to one of the first 500 people to share their Migraine story on the site. To enter or to learn more about the iPad sweepstakes on Migraine.com, including the complete participation rules, please visit Migraine.com

Wireframing and prototyping tool built to bring desktop performance to the cloud
PORTLAND, Ore., March 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Site9, Inc., developer of the industry's fastest growing collaborative prototyping tool for websites and web applications, today announced the launch of ProtoShare 5. The new generation of ProtoShare features improved usability, a redesigned interface, and desktop-like performance. The renovation of the already popular tool emphasizes Site9's effort to help teams communicate quickly and effectively with project stakeholders throughout the interactive development process, thereby reducing rework and creating better digital experiences.
Site9 CEO Andrew Mottaz explained the benefits of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) for both individuals and companies as IT cost reductions, accessibility, and massive productivity increases associated with collaboration. However, he added that, "A chronic pitfall of web-based applications is that they lack the speed and complexity of their desktop counterparts. I use a number of SaaS applications and I have to say, the wait for a page or document to load bothers me the more I use the application. With ProtoShare 5, our goal was to match desktop performance."
According to Mottaz, the most important optimization was re-engineering the application to provide fast, simple workflows. "We worked closely with customers to ensure workflows supported by the product were simple, close-at-hand, and didn't require navigating from page to page. Desktop applications have a long history of adopting standardized, familiar interface options. Until recently, some of these options were not possible to emulate on the Internet."
To increase performance, engineers optimized the back-end and client-side code, realizing speed gains between 70 and 200 percent. "Web browsers have made great strides in rendering speeds and in the performance of their JavaScript engines. Because ProtoShare is written exclusively using HTML, CSS and JavaScript, we're able to take advantage of this new power."
Site9 also improved the application's speed by transferring as little data as possible, while improving user experience. "The result is around a 50 percent reduction in data loading over the previous version," added Mottaz.
Mottaz also reported additional features in the new release, but the performance improvement in ProtoShare 5 cannot be ignored. "Web-based applications are still relatively young, and they will keep improving. ProtoShare 5 puts us on the cutting edge of performance. Our early adopters have told us that they can't believe it's not a desktop application."
More details on this milestone release can be found on the ProtoShare website (http://www.protoshare.com/5).
