The P3 Power Partner Program, implemented at the end of 2010,
underscores AEG PS's staunch channel commitment. Lead sharing, project
support on-site and bonus incentives have already brought much positive
feedback. Adrian Hanslik, Channel Sales Manager DACH, AEG Power Solutions:
"This year we are going to pull out all the stops: with surge protection and
UPS devices for smaller networks, SoHo servers, media centers and desktops we
will gain further ground in retail. To distributors, value-added resellers
and computer retailers we offer UPS solutions for profitable projects and
services. In so doing, we are positive to strengthen our position in the
channel."

    High-Tech -German technology

At CeBIT 2011 Green IT, cost- and energy efficiency still play
a major role. On the one hand it is about optimizing proven technologies and
setting high efficiency benchmarks e.g. with a 0.9lag power factor. On the
other hand AEG PS continues to develop alternative energy concepts, e.g.
supercapacitors and fuel cells, in order to be the first to offer
well-engineered innovations.

Pure energy for high-priced multimedia devices

Other important topics at CeBIT 2011 are multimedia and home
networks. For web-enabled TV sets, home servers and projectors the protection
against blackouts, in particular against over- and undervoltage, plays a
major role. UPS solutions by AEG PS, e.g. PROTECT A. and PROTECT B., cater
for a reliable filtering of dangerous voltage phenomena such as surges or
voltage harmonics. Pure and high-quality energy guarantees the function of
the home network and extends the lifetime of rather expensive home
entertainment systems.

We invite you to experience our new lineup

Spectrum Interactive and PrinterOn Launch Mobile Printing at UK Airports

KITCHENER, Ontario, March 1, 2011/PRNewswire/ --

    - PrintSpectrum Internet Kiosks Powered by the PrinterOn Mobile Printing
Solution

PrinterOn(R) is pleased to announce the successful launch of the
PrintSpectrum public printing solution at 30 UK airport locations including
at Heathrow (all terminals), Gatwick, Stansted, Manchester, Newcastle,
Birmingham, Luon, Bristol, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

The PrintSpectrum service enables users to print directly from internet
kiosks, as well as from any internet-enabled device such as a smartphone,
tablet or laptop. With 130,000 pages printed at UK airports last year, the
service has been extremely popular with UK travelers.

"Partnering with Spectrum Interactive has made it possible to roll out
our solution to these UK locations quickly and successfully," said Ken
Noreikis, Vice President Sales & Marketing, PrinterOn Corporation. "Large
deployments in key markets like this are necessary for increasing awareness
and driving adoption of mobile printing worldwide."

Users can print boarding passes, emails, attachments and web content
simply by forwarding an email with attachment to a printer specific email
address or by uploading a document via URL to a printing portal. A unique
release code is displayed or emailed, which when entered on the printer's 22"
touchscreen interface retrieves the print job. The user can then pay by
credit/debit cards or coin. The job is then released to print, and when
completed the file is permanently deleted from the print server ensuring
total privacy.

Daniel Gray, Director of Travel Division for Spectrum added, "Public
printing solutions have become an essential service for airport travellers,
and thus equally important for our airport partners. This demand is
exceptionally strong during periods of travel disruption, which recently has
ranged from industrial strikes, to bad weather and even volcanic ash! Our
airport installations are unmanned and remotely managed, with the printer, PC
and touch screen built into a secure kiosk housing. We have successfully
interfaced the PrinterOn product with our own kiosk management software, to
enable full monitoring and management for the kiosk, payment for card and
coin, and an easy public interface with touch screen. Our next developments
include a stand-alone PrintPillar for areas with strong demand and a high
density of handheld or laptop devices."

PrintSpectrum pilot projects are currently underway at key airport
locations, Premier Inn and Travelodge Hotels including London City, Heathrow
and Manchester.

Cities Get Smarter with IBM's Location-based Analytics

IBM unveils smarter cities wins in Wilmington, North Carolina; Waterloo, Ontario, Canada; and Washington D.C.

LAS VEGAS, March 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that it is working with cities around the world to help them gain new efficiencies by visualizing and analyzing their physical and digital assets in real-time.

(Photo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20110301/NY56494 )

(Logo:  http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20090416/IBMLOGO )

IBM is announcing Smarter Cities projects in Wilmington, N.C., Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, and new results from an IBM First-of-a-Kind Research project in Washington, D.C.

Increasingly, cities are using location-based technology to bring efficiency to their operations and improve the customer experience. They are using IBM software to get both a bird's eye view of their city infrastructure -- roads, buildings and waterways -- as well as insight into their operations underground or on the street of the pipes, wires, street lights, electrical meters, storm drains and other assets that make up a city's infrastructure. Some cities are using embedded sensors to detect faulty pipes or broken streetlights to automatically generate a work order for maintenance staff.

"Cities around the world are getting smarter everyday by monitoring and analyzing the data in their streets, pipes and buildings," said David Bartlett, vice president of Industry Solutions, IBM. "IBM is delivering a new level of intelligence that helps cities -- big or small, new or old -- to gain more efficient, sustainable operations."

Cities around the globe monitor and map their systems using IBM software with mapping and geographic information software (GIS) from IBM business partner Esri.  For example:

--  With digital history delivered in real-time to smart phones, workers in
the field can act quickly and efficiently to resolve -- and even prevent
-- problems by seeing exactly where a water main is, and its
        relationship to other underground infrastructure.
--  IBM analytics can uncover hidden relationships such as pinpointing the
cause of reoccurring issues and pockets of inefficiency, such as one
water main that causes expansive seasonal flooding to prevent issues
        before they impact service.
--  Repair crews address problems from a spatial perspective such as
optimizing the driving route of their service trucks to reduce time on
the road, prioritizing critical jobs and arming themselves with the
detailed history of infrastructure to speed repairs.

IBM today announced the following Smarter Cities initiatives:

Washington D.C.

The District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority (DC Water) has been working with IBM on a First-of-a-Kind project using advanced analytics to create a smarter water system that analyzes data on valves, storm drains, service vehicles, truck routes, and more to optimize its infrastructure.  With some pipes and other assets that date to the Civil War, maintaining high levels of service while replacing older infrastructure is an ongoing challenge.

Now in its second year, the objective of the IBM First-of-a-Kind pilot project is to realize the following benefits from a combination of IBM Asset Management and Analytics technology and services.  Among the benefits:

--  Field Services trucks can be automatically routed to optimize work
management. DC Water anticipates productivity gains of 20 percent or
more in effective completion of work orders as well as up to 20 percent
reduction of fuel costs related to fewer truck rolls and reduced
        "windshield" time.
--  Revenue loss from defective or degrading water meters will be
significantly recaptured because the analytics behind the advanced
metering infrastructure delivers more timely identification and
        replacement of those meters.
--  DC Water will be able to identify assets most critically in need of
repair using predictive analytics so aging infrastructure replacement
programs can be more accurately scheduled preventing costly incidents
that reduce service quality, such as outages and water main breaks.

Wilmington, N.C.

IBM is working with the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority (CFPUA) of Wilmington, N.C. to improve the efficiency and sustainability of its water and sewage systems using location-based intelligence to improve service for its 67,000 customers.

As a coastal community that is regularly impacted by a popular tourist season, severe weather and 100-year-old water lines, Cape Fear needed a smarter way to manage their stressed infrastructure.

With the new IBM smarter water system and Esri GIS, Cape Fear officials can now map nearly 1,500 miles of main lines and 143 pump stations to see in real-time the county's water and sewer line problems.  Managers and teams on location can then prioritize what issues to address first, in what order, and better identify the source of issues. Work orders are now automatically generated when out of norm conditions exist.

"Having geographic intelligence allows us to not only have a real-time view of our entire operation to optimize our teams and improve the efficiency of our work but also to drill into the significant details on history of that equipment, and the relationship to the overall community," said Nancy Gallinaro, Chief Operating Officer, Cape Fear Public Utility Authority. "This is especially critical a time when we are faced with aging infrastructure and the challenges associated with a struggling economy."

To further speed its response time, Cape Fear moved to a paperless system enabling teams to update the status of their work in with IBM's Maximo software using their truck's computers and air cards. Additionally, working with IBM software, turnaround on pump station run time meter reading collections was reduced from 4 days to 30 minutes. Prior to the IBM solution, CFPUA relied on manual processes for meter readings and work orders, and had a decentralized preventative maintenance program in utility services, leaving parts of the organization's process manual and reactionary.

Waterloo, Ontario

The City of Waterloo is a dynamic, leading edge community located in Southern Ontario, Canada. With a population 120,000, the city of Waterloo has become the technology hub of Ontario and was named the Top Intelligent Community in 2007 by the Intelligent Community Forum -- the first Canadian city awarded this honor.

The City of Waterloo recently deployed Maximo Spatial, a new IBM solution that integrates with Esri, to geographically view and update all of the city's water-related assets -- from drinking water, to storm and sewer, waste water and the facilities that make up the water department.

The City of Waterloo is leveraging location capabilities to create more efficiency in their system that services more than 120,000 users and more than thirty three thousand assets, including gravity mains, manholes and pressurized mains.

Xilinx Introduces Zynq-7000 Family, Industry's First Extensible Processing Platform

Dual ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore Processing System Tightly Integrated with Programmable Logic Extends Embedded System Architectures for Higher Performance and Scalability

NUREMBERG, Germany, March 1, 2011/PRNewswire/ -- Embedded World -- Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX) today unveiled the Zynq(TM)-7000 family, the industry's first Extensible Processing Platform (EPP) developed to achieve the levels of processing and compute performance required in high-end embedded applications targeting markets such as video surveillance, automotive driver assistance, factory automation, and many others. Supported by an extensive ecosystem of tools and IP providers, the Zynq-7000 family tightly integrates a complete ARM® Cortex(TM)-A9 MPCore(TM) processor-based system with 28nm, low-power programmable logic for system architects and embedded software developers to extend, customize, optimize, and differentiate their systems.

"For more than 10 years we have been discussing exactly this symbiosis possibility of processor and FPGA on one die to reduce cost and PCB space. Over time several companies have tried such an approach, but none of them offered a tight integration that allowed us to meet our targets.  Finally, our long time wish becomes reality with the Xilinx Zynq-7000 family," said Ralf Schaffer, project lead at Agilent Life Science Group. "This means Agilent can now create many different product variants on a common code base from low-end, mid-range, to high-end, with minimal cost and engineering overhead."

Each Zynq-7000 EPP device is built with an ARM dual-core Cortex-A9 MPCore processing system with NEON and Double Precision Floating Point engines that is fully integrated and hardwired, and includes L1 and L2 caches, memory controllers, and commonly used peripherals. The processing system boots at power-up and can run a variety of operating systems independent of the programmable logic. The processing system then configures the programmable logic on an as needed basis. With this approach, the software programming model is exactly the same as standard, fully featured ARM processor-based SoCs.

Application developers can take advantage of the programmable logic's massive parallel processing to handle large amounts of data across a wide range of signal processing applications, as well as extend the features of the processing system by implementing additional peripherals. High-bandwidth AMBA®4 Advanced Extensible Interface (AXI4(TM)) interconnect between the processing system and the programmable logic enables multi-gigabit data transfers at very low power, thereby eliminating common performance bottlenecks for control, data, I/O, and memory.

Familiar Programming Environments

The Zynq-7000 family accelerates time to market by providing an open design environment that facilitates parallel development of software for the dual-core Cortex-A9 processor-based system and custom accelerators in the programmable logic. LSI Delivers Industry's Highest Server RAID Performance With Launch of Second-Generation MegaRAID 6Gb/s SATA+SAS Controllers

Dual-core 6Gb/s SAS RAID-on-Chip and SSD optimization software boost performance to 465,000 IOPS, enabling customers to realize full performance benefits of SSD deployments

HANNOVER, Germany, March 1, 2011 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CeBIT 2011 -- LSI Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today announced immediate channel availability of its second-generation MegaRAID® SATA+SAS RAID controller cards based on 6Gb/s SAS technology. Powered by the LSI® dual-core 6Gb/s SAS RAID-on-Chip (ROC) IC, the new line of MegaRAID controllers delivers the industry's highest server RAID performance, extending the performance leadership offered by the existing family of LSI MegaRAID 6Gb/s SATA+SAS controllers.

"LSI has already shipped over 400,000 MegaRAID controller cards based on 6Gb/s SAS technology, while our competitors have only recently announced 6Gb/s SAS controllers," said Brent Blanchard, director of worldwide channel sales and marketing, LSI. "The launch of our second-generation products underscores our continued SAS and RAID technology leadership and will help users maximize the performance benefits of solid-state drives for a greater return on investment and a competitive edge."

The new line of controllers include the MegaRAID SAS 9265-8i, featuring eight internal ports, and the MegaRAID SAS 9285-8e, with eight external ports. The controllers deliver performance levels greater than 200,000 RAID 5 random I/Os per second (IOPS), a 3x improvement compared to the previous-generation products. Users can boost IOPS performance to 465,000 RAID 5 random IOPS utilizing a single controller, enabled with LSI MegaRAID FastPath(TM) software, connected to 8 SSDs. This advanced software option is designed to unlock the full performance benefits of SSD configurations by providing high-performance I/O acceleration for SSDs connected to a MegaRAID controller.

To achieve equivalent IOPS performance levels using competing high-performance 6Gb/s SAS RAID controllers could require as many as 3 additional RAID cards, 24 additional SSDs and 3 external 12-drive JBOD enclosures. This translates to a 3x increase in rackspace and power consumption and significantly higher hardware acquisition costs.

The new controllers also deliver industry-leading RAID bandwidth, with 2.7 GB/s sequential read and 3.2 GB/s sequential write throughput, which is 60 percent higher than competitor claims. Delivering both the highest RAID IOPS and bandwidth performance in the industry is critical to meeting the high I/O transaction demands of database and cloud applications as well as providing the high-bandwidth horsepower needed to meet the processing requirements of financial, digital media, Web 2.0 and medical imaging applications.

"The new LSI MegaRAID 6Gb/s SAS RAID controllers have enabled the ION SR-71 SpeedServer(TM) system to break the 1 million IOPS barrier," said Keith Josephson, Chief Technology Officer at ION Computer Systems, Inc. "With these exciting new controllers, the SR-71 SSD optimized server can sustain greater than 1 million IOPS while performing 1KB random reads with an average response time of under 200 microseconds. The combination of very high IOPS with very low latency enabled by the MegaRAID controllers allows ION's SR-71 application engine to deliver performance that simply cannot be achieved with a disk-based solution while consuming less than 500 Watts of power."

The low-profile MD2 form factor controllers feature the LSISAS2208 SAS ROC IC with its two embedded 800MHz PowerPC processor cores and 1GB DDRIII cache memory. The cards provide support for up to 240 SATA and SAS hard drives or SSDs, and support hardware RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10 and 60. An optional new intelligent LSIiBBU09 battery backup unit utilizing heat-tolerant cell technology enhances data protection capabilities and provides system builders with the flexibility to mount the LSIiBBU09 to a separate PCI Remote Mounting Board (RMB) or remote within the chassis.

Zscaler Releases Free Tool to Combat Fake and Compromised Storefronts

Search engines fail to warn users about potentially dangerous online commerce sites

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Feb. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Zscaler today released Safe Shopping, a free Firefox plugin that consumers can download from https://www.zscaler.com/safeshoppingdetails.html, which will protect them from fake and compromised online stores.

The number of compromised and fake online stores is growing, and unsuspecting users are falling victim to such sites every day. When end users attempt to purchase goods from such sites, they are giving away sensitive information such as credit card numbers. Zscaler Safe Shopping is a free Firefox plugin, which warns users when they visit one of the suspect domains. Zscaler Safe Shopping is continually updated, via the Zscaler cloud security service, whenever new compromised or fake online stores are identified.

Virtually all browsers contain blacklists to prevent users from accessing known malicious sites: Google Safe Browsing, Phishtank, etc. However, these blacklists do not generally block sites that have been compromised.  Rather, they block the malicious pages that hijacked sites ultimately redirect to.  This behavior is fine for most websites where you just surf and do not leave any sensitive information. However, in the case of shopping and commerce sites, where a user leaves a mailing address, phone number and credit card details, this type of blocking is not sufficient.  These types of commerce attacks are successful because users often have no idea that the site they are visiting has been compromised, or is a scam built by ill-intentioned hackers.

"Attackers are constantly adjusting their tactics and traditional security controls are failing to keep up," said Julien Sobrier, senior researcher at Zscaler labs and developer of the new Safe Shopping plugin.  "As blacklists have improved their detection of traditional attacks such as fake antivirus campaigns, attackers are now shifting to fake and compromised storefronts, which are not being detected by the browser."

According to Michael Sutton, VP of Security Research, "Users have grown comfortable with online commerce. What they don't realize is that lesser-known online stores can become compromised, often due to known vulnerabilities in popular technologies that have not been patched by the merchant. When this occurs, while the store itself may be legitimate, attackers could have access to the back end database."

Safe Shopping is freely available to everyone and can be downloaded from https://www.zscaler.com/safeshoppingdetails.html.

GenAudio Launches 3D Audio SDK and Studio Services Program for Interactive Media and Video Game Sector During Game Developers Conference in San Francisco

-3D Audio Applications for Console Manufacturers, Game Engines, Video Game Developers and Publishers Now Being Demonstrated at the GenAudio Suite at W Hotel San Francisco-

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 28, 2011/PRNewswire/ -- GenAudio Inc., developer of AstoundSound® 3D spatial audio software, announced today that a software development kit (SDK) is now available for console manufacturers, game engines, and video game developers - those who are interested in incorporating the AstoundSound technology that will enhance the immersive experience for video game and interactive media products.

Based on more than 23 years of spatial audio perception R&D into how the human brain localizes a sound source in space, GenAudio's AstoundSoundRTI®, a real-time interface based software development kit allows game console manufacturers to incorporate the technology via embedded level integration into any device that has stereo audio output capability with minimal processor utilization including portable product offerings.

"We are pleased to introduce three discrete product offerings for the video game industry that build upon the success of GenAudio's AstoundSound embedded level integration technology for the consumer electronics industry," said Jerry Mahabub, founder and CEO of GenAudio. "We have tailored our 3D spatial audio product offerings for the game industry over the past six years to match specific needs we have identified with our game development partners."

AstoundSound offers video game engine companies and developers a 5.1 surround sound experience by adding depth to any media content for 2D or 3D game play with any two speakers or headphones. AstoundSound processed audio remains in-phase, center channel imaging is not affected, elevation, azimuth and depth perception enable a completely immersive game audio experience, and the resultant audio has no tone colorization - a common issue with other current spatial audio technology. No additional hardware is required for playback, providing zero barrier of entry for consumer adoption.

Additionally, Astound Studios, GenAudio's studio partner, now offers specialized services for the game industry to mix and enhance video game trailers and cut scenes in AstoundSurround® for upcoming video game title releases. Astound Studios is a full service music recording, mixing, and audio post-production studio offering the most up to date and innovative technology combined with the most sought after vintage gear and provides a complete spectrum of services including: mixing, pre-dub, mastering, sound design, recording, ADR, sound restoration, music production and ISDN.

Integrated 3D sound demonstrations of AstoundSound and AstoundSurround technology implementations will be hosted by Michel Henein, newly appointed game business development manager, and Walt Horat, software development manager, throughout the Game Developers Conference by appointment only.  Please contact Rogers & Cowan, details below, to schedule demonstration.

About GenAudio

GenAudio's mission is to provide the entertainment industry with unique sound localization-based software for professional audio mixing/mastering. For the consumer electronics industry GenAudio provides software development kit (SDK) solutions for embedded level integration into every device that has stereo audio output capability (HDTVs, Blu-ray players, video game consoles, computers, etc).  GenAudio's product offerings are all software based.  The technology creates a multi-dimensional audio experience with a minimum of two speakers and requires no special hardware for playback. Verizon Extends Tender Offer for all Outstanding Shares of Terremark Worldwide, Inc.

Signs Memorandum of Understanding for Settlement of Merger Agreement Litigation

NEW YORK, Feb. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE, NASDAQ: VZ) today announced that, in connection with the settlement of purported class action lawsuits that related to its agreement to acquire Terremark Worldwide, Inc. (NASDAQ: TMRK), it has extended its tender offer for all outstanding shares of Terremark for $19.00 per share in cash without interest and less any required withholding taxes.

The tender offer is being made by Verizon Holdings Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Verizon, pursuant to a previously announced Agreement and Plan of Merger, dated Jan. 27, 2011, by and among Verizon, Verizon Holdings Inc. and Terremark.  The tender offer will now expire at midnight Eastern time on March 21, 2011, unless extended in accordance with the definitive agreement and the applicable rules and regulations of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The settlement of the purported class action lawsuits, which were filed against Terremark, its directors, Verizon and in one lawsuit, Terremark's financial advisor, in the Court of Chancery in Delaware and in Florida federal and state courts, is subject to the approval of the courts.  Under the terms of the settlement, Verizon and Terremark have agreed to amend the merger agreement to provide for the extension of the tender offer period to midnight on March 21, 2011; to provide that the termination fee will be $40 million; to eliminate the "top-up" option; and to eliminate Verizon's right to require Terremark to hold a special meeting of its shareholders in the event of a change in recommendation for the transaction by Terremark's board of directors.

Verizon and the other defendants specifically deny all the allegations made in the lawsuits and the memorandum of understanding entered into, and the settlement contains no admission of wrongdoing.  The settlement is conditioned upon, among other things, negotiation of a final stipulation of settlement and receipt of final required court approvals.

Any additional extension of the tender offer will be followed as promptly as practicable by public announcement thereof, and such announcement will be made no later than 9 a.m. Eastern time on the next business day after the previously scheduled expiration date.  The tender offer is subject to customary conditions, including the acquisition by Verizon of a majority of the outstanding shares of Terremark common stock on a fully diluted basis and the expiration or termination of the applicable waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act.

Verizon filed its HSR application with the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission on Feb. 25, 2011.  As previously disclosed, stockholders holding shares representing approximately 27.6 percent of the outstanding voting shares of Terremark have agreed, among other things, to tender all of their shares in the tender offer.

Today, Verizon will file with the SEC an amendment to its tender offer statement on Schedule TO, setting forth the terms of the amended merger agreement and the settlement. Terremark will shortly file with the SEC an amended solicitation/recommendation statement on Schedule 14D-9, setting forth additional information, among other things; changes to the section on the "The Solicitation and Recommendation"; and confirming the unanimous recommendation by those directors present and voting of Terremark's board of directors that Terremark's stockholders accept the tender offer and tender their Terremark shares pursuant to the tender offer.

Mapping App Enables Global Dialog Around Aid Projects

AidData and Esri Submit Prototype to World Bank's 'Apps for Development' Competition

REDLANDS, Calif., Feb. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Public voting closes today, February 28, 2011 for World Bank's "Apps for Development" competition, which includes an innovative mapping tool created by AidData with support from Esri. AidData's Development Loop application presents a visual story of assistance, need, and impact driving the complex flow of development funds around the globe. To vote or access a demo and prototype of Development Loop, visit the Apps for Development website.

AidData--a joint initiative of Brigham Young University, the College of William and Mary, and nonprofit organization Development Gateway--captures and interprets development data to support aid activities. Development Loop integrates project data from the World Bank and African Development Bank with success stories, development indicators, and relevant local information on an interactive map. Future enhancements, such as social media integration and free mobile offerings, will facilitate place-based feedback loops among donors, development professionals, and aid recipients.

Through the app challenge, AidData hopes to encourage donor organizations to collaborate in building a comprehensive picture of development efforts and a dynamic platform on which to plan, analyze, and evaluate projects.

"Development Loop goes far beyond depicting where and how funds are being spent," says Stephen Davenport, senior director for business development at Development Gateway. "It can open the lines of communication and track funding as it moves from one organization to another to the intended beneficiary. It makes projects more empowering and efficient and establishes a platform for sustainable workflows that can be incorporated into existing reporting processes."

The Development Loop prototype is built on Esri's ArcGIS API for Microsoft Silverlight/WPF and ArcGIS Server technology. World Bank and African Development Bank activity data was geocoded through the Mapping for Results project, a partnership between AidData and the World Bank.

Organizations interested in integrating project information into Development Loop may contact AidData at info@aiddata.org or Salim Sawaya of Esri at ssawaya@esri.com. To learn more about Esri, visit esri.com. For information on AidData, visit aiddata.org.

IBM Delivers New Software to Advance Industry Transformation

With new software to monitor and analyze the physical world, IBM is helping cities, buildings, hospitals, utilities and railways become smarter

LAS VEGAS, Feb. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM (NYSE: IBM) today introduced software to help bring a new level of intelligence to the world's physical infrastructure. The software aims to advance smarter cities and industry transformation across water, energy, transportation and healthcare industries by monitoring and analyzing new streams of data.

(Logo:  http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20090416/IBMLOGO )

As part of the news, IBM is also announcing a series of client wins and advancements to transform infrastructures around water, energy management, buildings and more.  This includes Cape Fear Public Utility Authority, the City of Waterloo, the District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority, McMaster University and Swiss Federal Railways.

The growing ubiquity of sensors, smart grid networks, RFID tags and 4G wireless networks, smartphones and tablets are transforming everyday objects in the physical world into 'smart' ones with information on their history, location and status.  This is creating new streams of data for organizations to drive more data-based decisions and business transformation.

IBM's expertise in analytics, systems management and sensors is unmatched for bridging the physical and digital worlds and creating new intelligent infrastructures critical for organizations to operate more efficiently.  With today's news, IBM is continuing these advancements, delivering new software to give greater intelligence to the business operations of the world's infrastructure:

--  Analytics software for monitoring telecommunications, transportation, or
any network that distributes data such as escalators for metros, ATMs
        for banks and refrigerators for grocery chains;
--  New software that monitors and manages smart meter networks for energy,
        water and gas utilities;
--  New software that helps hospitals locate and monitor their clinical and
biomedical equipment in real-time to ensure that life-saving medical
devices are instantly available and expertly maintained; and
--  Smarter buildings software that helps organizations to optimize their
        buildings' energy and equipment efficiency.

"The proliferation of computing power into more and more devices, buildings and infrastructures is driving new levels of insight and operational efficiency for organizations around the globe," said David Bartlett, IBM vice president of Industry Solutions.  "From rail lines criss-crossing a country, utilities with thousands of miles of pipeline to hospitals with tens of thousands of clinical devices, we can put technology into places that you never could before and glean actionable intelligence."

Here's an overview of the products launched today:

Analytics Solutions for Monitoring Networks

IBM is delivering new and enhanced software to help enable predictive monitoring and event management across complex networks and operations. The software helps measure, analyze and pro-actively address network issues before they materialize such as network disruptions.

As information gets digitized and transmitted through sensors, this software acts as a nervous system that delivers updates on real-time status from events even thousands of miles away.

The new IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbussoftware is key to helping complex networks such as telecommunications lines and transportation signals enhance monitoring, visualization, correlation and root cause analysis.  These products provide insight into a business's operations, such as monitoring escalators, ATM machines for banks and refrigerators for grocery chains to ensure they are operating smoothly and have the proper maintenance required.  The software can reduce the time typically required to resolve network problems through enhanced network visualization and root cause analysis -- improving network availability and lowering operational costs.

IBM Intelligent Metering Network Management

Utilities are deploying millions of smart meters across the globe for energy, water and gas metering and expecting over 300 million smart meters globally in next few years. These meters require networks to be secure, reliable and scalable.

To help utilities monitor and manage smart meter events, alarms and data, IBM is launching Intelligent Metering Network Management software for greater visibility, control and automation of the smart metering infrastructure.  IBM software taps data captured from smart meters - on service availability and assurance - then correlates it according to policies and thus gains greater insight, enabling operational improvements.  When data events fall outside the normal patterns, the IBM offering can automatically trigger customer service to create a work order or for staff to take the appropriate actions.  By doing this, IBM software can help detect and even prevent network faults. With more insight into the location of faults, the utility can manage its services more efficiently with fewer truck roll-outs.

IBM Intelligent Metering Network Management provides an end-to-end service management approach with real-time monitoring of the wide variety of devices residing on the transmission and distribution networks. The solution enables utility companies to create a 'manager of managers' by integrating service management for multiple devices and networks into a single network operations view. It is a highly scalable solution which is able to monitor millions of devices.

IBM is integrating this offering with Trilliant and other business partners' smart grid communications systems to offer a more flexible and complete solution that is proven and ready to create immediate business value for utility customers worldwide.  This software is part of the smart metering and beyond solutions from IBM and built on IBM Solution Architecture for Energy and Utilities (SAFE) industry framework.

IBM client CenterPoint Energy is currently using the offering capabilities to provide real-time information regarding the health of its advanced metering computer systems.

IBM Real-Time Asset Locator for Healthcare

IBM is launching IBM Real-Time Asset Locator for Healthcare, a new software offering to help hospitals optimize asset usage and track clinical, biomedical and other high-value equipment.  With the real-time location of medical equipment, hospitals can ensure that life-saving medical devices are instantly available and expertly maintained. The software can even help track patients and staff in the emergency room, intensive care, operating rooms and beyond.

By tracking assets, hospitals can save hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost and underutilized equipment. It also reduces the time caregivers spend looking for the equipment they need. Industry experts estimate that the average hospital misplaces or loses 10 to 20 percent of an estimated $750 million of their valuable medical equipment annually.  Experts also estimate that hospitals can't find 15 to 20 percent of the devices they own.

Sensors using ultrasound ID (USID) and other RFID technologies capture the status and location of assets--in use, available and out-of-service--so the hospital can have up-to-date statisticson its equipment.  For example, the system can monitor the availability of key equipment to match patient needs, automatically triggering a work order in IBM Maximo Asset Management to rebalance inventory.  In addition, the system can also create automated work orders for maintenance or cleaning staff.  For example, a nurse can press a button on a room tag to indicate that it has been vacated and needs to be cleaned.  This event triggers a series of work orders in Maximo to initiate sanitation for the room and its equipment.

To improve process efficiency and accountability, the IBM offering provides reports and metrics on the history of equipment usage, the process it has gone through, its condition and the responsible parties. By analyzing this data, hospitals can gain deep insight into processes and asset utilization. The offering is fully integrated with IBM Maximo Asset Management for end-to-end asset tracking and management.  The offering works with Sonitor Technologies ultrasound tags and readers and a variety of other common location and sensor technologies in healthcare.

IBM Smarter Buildings Software

IBM has made its smarter buildings software available to clients now in open beta release.  The solution combines real-time monitoring and analysis, facilities and space management capabilities, and advanced dynamic dashboards.  It helps property owners and managers reduce facilities operations and energy expense, and improve asset management and reliability. Additionally, a new feature of the solution from IBM Business Partner Esri helps building managers visualize their buildings from an aerial view, drilling down into the details of the building and the floor plans. With this new feature an operations manager can locate a boiler or air handler that isn't functioning and then zoom into the floor plan to see where it's located, what it's near and coordinate maintenance. Overall, this solution is expected to reduce energy consumption by as much as 35 to 40 percent.

PROFNET EXPERT ALERTS: Natural Gas Bankruptcies / Title Insurance / Electronic Monitors

PROFNET EXPERT ALERTS: Natural Gas Bankruptcies / Title Insurance / Electronic Monitors

Feb. 28, 2011

1. Business: Fall in Price, Lack of Permits Spiking Natural Gas Bankruptcies

2. Business: How Entrepreneurs Can Benefit from Professional Management

3. Finance: The Power and Influence of Banks

4. Insurance: The Truth behind Title Insurance

5. Marketing: The Intersection of Digital Signage Interactivity and Mobile Marketing

6. Marketing: Who's Watching the Fat Lady Sing?

7. Technology: Electronic Recorders Would Reduce Dangers, Keep Truckers Honest

**1. BUSINESS: FALL IN PRICE, LACK OF PERMITS SPIKING NATURAL GAS BANKRUPTCIES. Rhett Campbell, a bankruptcy attorney from the Houston office of Thompson & Knight: "Although record-breaking temperatures have chilled much of the nation, natural gas prices continue to fall with an almost 20 percent decline since early January. And despite the moratorium on Gulf of Mexico drilling being lifted, new permits are few. Together, these factors are leading to increasingly shaky financial positions for many producers and service companies. There have been several energy-related Chapter 11 protection filings as companies attempt to reorganize or better position themselves for acquisition. The service companies with business concentrated in the Gulf are especially hard hit, as are the smaller and midsized E&P operators. As a result, there are attractive investment opportunities for companies that are prepared to ride out this downturn." News Contact: Barry Pound, barry@androvett.com  Phone: +1-800-559-4534

**2. BUSINESS: HOW ENTREPRENEURS CAN BENEFIT FROM PROFESSIONAL MANAGEMENT. Douglas Wolford, president of Convergent Wealth Advisors, will share his insights as to how successful entrepreneurs can benefit both themselves and their companies by bringing on a professional manager to run the operations of the business: "Adding professional management into an entrepreneurial environment not only has the potential to significantly improve a company's operations and bottom line, but doing so can also help avoid some unforeseen blowups. Knowing when to add professional management is critical, as is determining how to incorporate new management into an entrepreneurial environment effectively." Wolford can expand on the pros and cons that come with adding to a company's management team. He is located in Rockville, Md. News Contact: Danielle DiPirro, Danielle.DiPirro@ConvergentWealth.com  Phone: +1-301-284-1144

**3. FINANCE: THE POWER AND INFLUENCE OF BANKS. Joanne Raphael, Ph.D., academic dean for Strayer University in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., warns that the size and power of banks has had a negative influence on the U.S. economy and political system: "We've underestimated the power and influence of banks. We believed that regulation would solve the problem, and maybe it did for a while. We now see that banks have the power to determine the direction of the country simply by deciding whether to loan or not loan money. Even if the government sets new regulations, they can just sit on their money and wait for a change in the political winds. It's frightening because it begs the question of whether these players have disproportionate influence." News Contact: Dana Haydock, dhaydock@wrayward.com  Phone: +1-704-926-1301

**4. INSURANCE: THE TRUTH BEHIND TITLE INSURANCE. Chip Poli, CEO of Poli Mortgage Group, Inc.: "Although you can never guarantee that your home investment will be worth as much or more once you decide to sell it, title insurance can offer protection right off the bat. It acts as a safety net for both buyers and lenders to protect each party against unknown defects in existence before closing. This includes outstanding liens, errors or omissions in deeds, mistakes in examining records, fraud or forgery. Policies will protect the insured until the amount financed has been repaid, refinanced or resold. Title insurance agents scour public records to develop and document the true timeline of a property's ownership in order to protect all parties from discrepancies. Lender policies only cover the lender's loss and do not protect the buyer at all." News Contact: Lucia Scott, Lucia@exposeyourselfpr.com

**5. MARKETING: MOBILE AND DIGITAL CONVERGE: THE INTERSECTION OF DIGITAL SIGNAGE INTERACTIVITY AND MOBILE MARKETING. Alex Romanov, CEO of iSIGN Media: "Mobile-device usage in the U.S. is nearing saturation point, with 91 percent of Americans owning and using a cell phone, smart phone or other mobile device. As such, the mobile channel has become fully ingrained in consumers' lives -- used for communication, conducting research, sharing content, watching videos, listening to music and, increasingly, making purchasing decisions. And in the past few years, digital-out-of-home (DOOH) communications have also been steadily growing as companies have looked to engage consumers through multichannel interaction. But the future lies at an intersection of mobility and digital technology, which is facilitating, for the first time, the spontaneous interaction between digital signs and consumers' mobile devices -- via an interactive marketing platform known as proximity marketing that is driven primarily by consumer behavior and improved metrics. Proximity marketing combines the benefits of digital and mobile interactions to allow marketers to connect and engage with consumers in a unique, effective and immediate way, and in very close proximity to retail outlets. It also allows brands to collect business intelligence (BI), or detailed information about consumers' behavior and preferences. This technology is actively shaping the definition of what is possible in terms of consumer digital and mobile interactions for marketers in almost every industry, and I believe it will continue to grow significantly in 2011 and beyond." Romanov is located in Toronto and speaks French. ProfNet Connect profile: http://www.profnetconnect.com/alexromanov   News Contact: Katie Norwood, knorwood@thinkinkpr.com  Phone: +1-305-749-5342, ext. 236

**6. MARKETING: WHO'S WATCHING THE FAT LADY SING? Kurt DeMarais, senior vice president of interactive marketing for The Allant Group, a leading database marketing provider: "We all know it's not over until the fat lady sings, but in the land of television the game today needs to be about knowing who, on a segment and then individual level, is watching her sing and where. Viewers have started the frenzied migration to multiple platforms for viewing content and are clearly communicating their interests, needs and desires with their behavior. The old paradigm of being content-centric -- create it and 'they,' defined as the somewhat fuzzy audience, will come -- is no longer a viable approach for programmers. Serious and nimble programmers need to move to a viewer-centric model of the universe, which requires strong listening skills. In order to listen, they need to capture the right data across channels in a viewer-centric database, and begin measuring their marketing efforts and ROI against a revenue-per-viewer model. **7. TECHNOLOGY: ELECTRONIC RECORDERS WOULD REDUCE DANGERS, KEEP TRUCKERS HONEST. Frank L. Branson, Dallas trial attorney of The Law Office of Frank L. Branson: "A U.S. transportation department proposal would require every long-haul commercial truck to be equipped with an electronic device to automatically log the driver's time behind the wheel. The devices would replace the easily falsified paper logbooks to ensure that truckers do not exceed federally mandated daily driving limits. Driver fatigue is one of leading causes of catastrophic traffic fatalities, particularly when a commercial truck is involved. A 2004 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety survey of long-haul drivers found that one in eight had dozed off behind the wheel in the previous month. Electronic monitors like these will go a long way toward keeping trucking firms honest and relieve truckers of pressure to fulfill unrealistic driving schedules. This proposal will save lives." Mobile Phone Etiquette Dimishing

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on February 28, 2011 at 12:07:41 PM
It used to be the lone guy in the movie theater that leaves his cell phone on and it rings during the movie... Now, it's all over the place. People just don't seem to care about anyone else but themselves when it comes to mobile phone use. Surprised? Not likely.

Quote

While connectivity at one's fingertips has enabled people be more productive, how people use technology in the presence of others can lead to frustration. The majority of U.S. adults surveyed (92 percent) agree that they wish people practiced better etiquette when it comes to using their mobile devices in public areas. Roughly one in five adults (19 percent) admits to poor mobile behavior but continues the behavior because everyone else is doing it.

The desire to be more connected to family, friends and co-workers, combined with devices that are "always on," contributes to an innate need to have mobile devices available all day, every day, from early morning to late night. In fact, one in five adults admits to checking their mobile device before they get out of bed in the morning.

I guess this also depends on the type of phone you use. I still have a first generation Storm. The less I use it, the better.

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Microsoft Corp. opened registration for the Dream.Build.Play 2011 Challenge, a contest sponsored by Microsoft to encourage independent game developers to create fun and innovative games using XNA Game Studio. Each game will be judged by three standards: how fun it is to play, how creative and unique it is, and how well it is produced. Four winners will be given a share of $75,000(U.S.)and the opportunity to receive an Xbox LIVE Arcade publishing contract. The grand prize winner will receive $40,000(U.S.), the first prize winner will receive $20,000(U.S.), the second prize winner will receive $10,000(U.S.) and the third prize winner will receive $5,000(U.S.).

"Microsoft has always valued the creativity and innovative thinking that comes from independent developers," said Mark Seminatore, principal development manager in the Xbox Advanced Technology Group at Microsoft. "We've hosted the Dream.Build.Play contest for the past five years in an effort to support and nurture that talent."

Previous winners, including "Beat Hazard," "CarneyVale Showtime" and "Weapon of Choice," have become top sellers on Xbox LIVE Indie Games. In addition, several finalists from previous contests received Xbox LIVE Arcade contracts, including 2009's winner, "Dust: An Elysian Tail."

"Each year we are amazed at the quality of games submitted to the Dream.Build.Play Challenge," said Pete Isensee, principal program manager in the Xbox Advanced Technology Group at Microsoft. "I can't wait to see what indie developers will create this year."

All games submitted to the contest need to be created with XNA Game Studio 4.0, which enables developers to easily make games for Xbox 360, Windows-based PCs and Windows Phones. Since its initial release in 2006, XNA Game Studio has been downloaded over 1 million times, making it one of the most comprehensive and trusted game development tools in the industry.
