Ford First With Assembly Line Wi-Fi Provisioning for Delivery of SYNC Software to 2011 Edge
DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 26 -- -- Ford is installing Wi-Fi® access points on its assembly lines to
wirelessly deliver SYNC® software to new Wi-Fi-enabled MyFord
Touch(TM)-equipped vehicles as they are being built
-- On-the-line software downloads allow Ford to use a common SYNC
hardware module for every vehicle, reducing complexity, improving
quality and saving cost
-- The Oakville, Ontario assembly plant, which produces the all-new 2011
Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX, will be first to have the
on-the-assembly-line Wi-Fi capability, with Chicago Assembly, home of
the new 2011 Ford Explorer, and other global Ford manufacturing sites
soon to follow
Ford (NYSE:F) is the first automaker to use Wi-Fi provisioning on the assembly line to wirelessly deliver SYNC software to vehicles equipped with the new MyFord Touch driver connect technology as they are being built.
The new on-the-assembly-line Wi-Fi capability eliminates the need for building, stocking and storing multiple SYNC hardware modules, thus reducing manufacturing complexity and saving cost.
"Using wireless software installation via Wi-Fi, we can stock just one type of SYNC module powering MyFord Touch and loaded with a basic software package," explained Sukhwinder Wadhwa, SYNC global platform manager. "We eliminate around 90 unique part numbers, each of which would have to be updated every time a change is made - this system really boosts quality control."
Earlier in the year, Ford announced that the next-generation SYNC system that powers MyFord Touch would feature a built-in Wi-Fi receiver. Now, Ford is further capitalizing on the limitless possibilities of this in-car wireless connection, making communication between the vehicle and the assembly line a reality.
The Oakville, Ontario, assembly line that produces the all-new 2011 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX will be the first to feature wireless access points for software installation. In turn, the Edge and MKX will become the first vehicles to get their infotainment software installed via Wi-Fi while moving down the line.
A global endeavor, Ford is also targeting Chicago Assembly Plant, which is building the all-new 2011 Ford Explorer, for Wi-Fi installation capabilities. Plant locations throughout the world that will support the 2012 Ford Focus launch will soon follow.
Through July, hundreds of pilot vehicles were successfully moving through the Wi-Fi access point at Oakville. "Employees at the Oakville assembly plant helped us tremendously in getting the Wi-Fi process to work, and work perfectly," said Wadhwa. "Turning an assembly plant - with steel beams everywhere and high-voltage cabling throughout; everything you could imagine that would interfere with a radio signal - into an access point that would achieve 100 percent success was a huge challenge.
"Oakville is our model for what we're doing next in Chicago, then into Europe for the new Ford Focus."
Wireless proposition
Going wireless for software delivery addresses a number of manufacturing complexity and potential quality issues for Ford as more and more features and services are added to SYNC across multiple vehicle lines and continents.
"As we began developing the different levels of MyFord driver connect technology, we grew increasingly concerned with the number of different hardware configurations we were going to have to keep on hand," said Wadhwa.
Where engineers initially proposed unique SYNC hardware modules for each possible vehicle configuration - resulting in more than 90 individual part numbers - Wi-Fi installation allows those different configurations to be stored as software on a computer server and wirelessly installed on a common, basic SYNC hardware module as the vehicles are built.
Through the Wi-Fi connection, SYNC software options totaling as much as 300 megabytes of data can be installed and configured wirelessly, including:
-- The addition of the SYNC app Traffic, Directions & Information in U.S.
markets
-- Market-appropriate languages for voice-activated commands and system
prompts
-- Option-specific graphics and icons for navigation, system information
and instrument panel screens
-- Unique system color schemes for MyFord Touch and MyLincoln Touch
-- Units of measurement settings for fuel economy, speed and distance
Global implementation
With the dual challenge of implementing a cutting-edge driver connect technology like MyFord Touch and rolling that technology out to a global marketplace, Wi-Fi has been a key to rapid globalization of the SYNC system, added Wadhwa.
"Ford is developing and implementing world-class manufacturing techniques that are just as advanced as the vehicles they're being used to build, and we're scaling these techniques for use around the globe," he said.

Online Credit Card Activation Rolled out to Millions of Customers
CHESTER, England, August 26, 2010-- MBNA is enabling all of its customers, and holders of affinity partner
cards provided by MBNA, to activate their credit cards online.
For the first time, all UK and Ireland credit card customers have a
choice of channels when activating new, replacement or re-issued MBNA credit
cards.
Customers have had the ability to activate credit cards online since
2008; however, this was limited to re-issued cards only.
Ian Craig, customer service and channel fulfilment executive for Bank of
America Europe Card Services, which operates under the MBNA brand in the UK
and Ireland, said: "Our customers tell us they want more online options to
service their accounts so it makes sense to open up online activation to
everyone. The majority of our new accounts are applied for online; so, for
many, it is the right channel to offer more.
"We've expanded the scope to activate our cards as it's quite right that
we offer them the freedom to service their account via their channel of
choice."
Hundreds of thousands of MBNA credit cards have already been activated
online this year - and more than half a million since online activation was
launched in 2008.
The move adds to MBNA's transition to paperless statements
(http://www.mbna.co.uk/paperless/) for new Internet accounts launched earlier
this year.
Mr Craig added: "We are committed to offering choice and convenience and
we will continue to invest in better technology, that will deliver the
online, mobile and voice recognition services our customers expect and
deserve."

First Ever 3D Broadcasts of US Open Spearheaded by Panasonic and CBS Sports
CONSUMER ELECTRONICS GIANT BECOMES OFFICIAL SPONSOR OF US OPEN IN NEW THREE-YEAR SPONSORSHIP AGREEMENT
FLUSHING, N.Y., Aug. 25 -- The USTA today announced that consumer electronics giant Panasonic has become an official sponsor of the US Open in a new three-year agreement.
Working with CBS Sports, the USTA and Panasonic will spearhead the first-ever 3D broadcasts of the tournament. CBS Sports will produce 3D versions of all the Arthur Ashe Stadium matches that it broadcasts in High Definition on Labor Day Weekend and on Finals Weekend, September 10-12. These matches will be made available nationwide via DirecTV's exclusive dedicated 3D entertainment channel, "n|3D Powered by Panasonic" (DirecTV channel 103).
On-site at the 2010 US Open, Panasonic will have three 3D viewing galleries--a 3D Panasonic Showcase located in the former International Tennis Hall of Fame Gallery on the floor level of Louis Armstrong Stadium, and another in SmashZone, the US Open's interactive tennis experience for fans and families located in the state-of-the-art indoor facility and one more in the South Plaza area. Panasonic and DirecTV also will provide the US Open semifinal and final matches live in 3D to hundreds of TV retail outlets nationwide, including scores of Best Buy stores, as part of the September 10-12 "National 3D Demo Days" organized by the Consumer Electronics Association.
"We are very pleased to enter a new era of sports production with a new partner, Panasonic, and our long-time partner, CBS," said Lucy S. Garvin, USTA Chairman of the Board and President. "We continually explore new innovations for the US Open, and new ways to present our tournament to tennis fans. 3D technology is the wave of the future, and once again the US Open will be on the cutting edge."
"Panasonic is proud to support the US Open, on site and in homes throughout the country, by bringing live match action to tennis fans in immersive 3D," said Joseph M. Taylor, Chairman and CEO of Panasonic Corporation of North America. "Panasonic consumer and professional 3D displays will show the Arthur Ashe Stadium matches to spectators on site in Flushing Meadows, viewers nationwide can see them via DirecTV's exclusive 3D channel, 'n|3D powered by Panasonic,' and our professional 3D camcorder will be used to shoot interviews and other footage in 3D for CBS's production."
"CBS Sports is looking forward to using this groundbreaking technology during our coverage of the U.S. Open Tennis Championships," said Harold Bryant, Vice President, Production, CBS Sports. "With the court-level camera positions that will make viewers feel like they are right on the court, and the resonant sounds of the game and the spectators, tennis will be a spectacular sport to see in 3D."
The 3D broadcasts will use a separate production team and equipment from the traditional HD broadcasts of the tournament. Plans call for six camera rigs (each holding two high definition cameras), two special 3D production trucks, and a unique 3D-dedicated CBS Sports broadcast team. CBS has designed the 3D camera placements lower to the court than traditional TV locations, in order to capture the close-up and personal, athletic dimension of tennis that make 3D such a powerful experience.
Panasonic also will reach out to viewers with advertising geared to the new 3D technology during the CBS Sports broadcasts of the US Open. In order to view the US Open in 3D, fans must have 3D televisions and 3D eyewear and be subscribers to DirecTV.
The Panasonic sponsorship also include sponsorship of Arthur Ashe Kids' Day, the US Open's tennis and entertainment spectacular that serves as the unofficial opening to the tournament. In addition, Panasonic will have new, digital signage in the three stadiums and at most of the outer courts at the US Open.
The USTA is the national governing body for the sport of tennis in the U.S. and the leader in promoting and developing the growth of tennis at every level -- from local communities to the highest level of the professional game. LONDON, August 25, 2010-- Dragon Quest, the gaming sensation that became a phenomenon in Japan, has
been the summer holidays hit for school children in the UK.
The Nintendo DS role playing game was launched at the start of the school
holidays with a major fanfare at London's Westfield shopping centre featuring
Britain's Got Talent winners Diversity.
Since then it has sold more than 50,000 copies with some retailers
selling out.
Gaming experts are attributing the success of the game to its involving
story.
Dragon Quest IX: 'Sentinels of the Starry Skies' allows players to put
themselves in the role of the game's hero or heroine - a guardian angel
fallen to Earth who must embark on an epic adventure in the mortal world,
protecting mortals, battling foes and ultimately completing a Quest which
will return them to the Kingdom of Angels.
James Honeywell from Nintendo UK said: "We've seen a lot of research
which suggests keeping children entertained on long car journeys or on rainy
days is a real challenge for parents. Dragon Quest IX is a real epic game
that provides more than enough entertainment for the long summer holidays.
"And we're sure the game will be the talk of the playgrounds when the
first wave of players return to school having mastered Dragon Quest IX," he
said.
About the Dragon Quest phenomenon:
Queues a mile long formed for the launch of Dragon Quest IX in Tokyo with
sales of 2.4 million in the first weekend - a world record launch in a single
country.
Such is the impact of Dragon Quest in its native Japan, the latest launch
was even held on a Saturday morning, when games previously always launched on
a Wednesday, in order to stop mass truancy by children and adults missing
work in the race to get their hands on this immersive role-playing game.
In one district of Tokyo the local authorities have roped off special
zones for Dragon Quest players so they don't wander off the pavements or
collide with other pedestrians while immersed in the handheld game on their
Nintendo DS.
The nine games in the Dragon Quest series have sold a total of 53 million
games in Japan alone, beaten only by gaming icons Mario and Pokemon for
sales. And in Tokyo there is even a restaurant devoted to Dragon Quest where
diners eat off screens showing the game. The first eight games were aimed
almost exclusively at a domestic audience, but with Dragon Quest IX it has
been aimed at a more global audience.

Marcy Playground 'Indaba Remixes from Wonderland' to be Released September 28 by Capitol/EMI
CD and Digital Album Features 13 Crowdsourced Remixes from Indaba Music
HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Aug. 25 -- Marcy Playground are excited to announce the September 28 release of their forthcoming album Indaba Remixes from Wonderland by Capitol/EMI. Indaba Remixes from Wonderland is a new CD and digital collection of remixes from the band's 2009 critically-acclaimed album Leaving Wonderland...In a Fit of Rage. For the release, the band partnered last fall with the top online destination for music creation, Indaba Music, to offer fans the opportunity to put their own stamp on Marcy Playground's songs by remixing them. The band then selected their favorite mixes, from hundreds submitted, for inclusion on this special release.
Marcy Playground frontman John Wozniak comments: "I wanted to make this record to show people what the online music community is capable of. I believe the talent reflected in these tracks speaks for itself. This community is thriving. It's thriving because musicians feed on inspiration they get from other musicians. Music is not meant to be a solitary endeavor. It's something we like to do with other people. But maybe you live in a remote part of the world, or have problems with mobility because you're physically disabled, or have severe social anxiety, or simply can't find other musicians in your locale who share your musical interests. Indaba side-steps these limitations, giving musicians all over the world a way to get together and create anyway, which is revolutionary. "
Indaba Remixes from Wonderland marks the first time that an entire album has been produced exclusively using crowdsourced remixes from IndabaMusic.com's worldwide community in which the winners will receive royalties from album sales. The mixes were judged by the band, with the prize being the opportunity to have the winning entries included on the album.
"Marcy Playground was very forward-thinking in the planning for Indaba Remixes from Wonderland. Their faith in the independent music community's ability to deliver was well founded, as evidenced by the overwhelming response," said Mantis Evar, Co-founder and EVP, Artists & Community of IndabaMusic.com.
Wozniak continues: "Before the contest started, most of us expected to see between 50 and 100 remix submissions, which is still a lot of music. But we underestimated. By the end, members of the community had submitted some 337 individual remixes, amounting to over 20 consecutive hours of music. Not only were we overwhelmed by the response, we were impressed by the multitude of musical directions and interpretations in different musical genres. It took a lot of time to judge the winners because every single submission deserved consideration, and multiple listens. I kept notebooks filled with observations in order to keep track of what I liked and what I didn't. Eventually I whittled those 330 down to about 60 of the best remixes, and then took that list to the band. The guys helped trim those 60 down to 30. But then we had to get those 30 down to 13, and that was painful. Those 30 finalists were all outstanding. At the end of the day, everybody put so much love into their remixes, I'm just thankful to have had the opportunity to experience them all."

Jellyvision Benefits Counselor Declares Open Season on Open Enrollment Angst
Creators of YOU DON'T KNOW JACK offer wildly engaging interactive tool that makes open enrollment education simple, fun and fast.
CHICAGO, Aug. 25 -- Jellyvision Lab is reminding HR people everywhere not to panic about open enrollment this fall - even though a recent Colonial Life study showed that fewer than 20 percent of all employees understand their benefits. And feel free to not worry when the Society of Human Resources Management tells you that benefits are the number two deciding factor in employee satisfaction and retention. Stay calm - because there's still time to let Jellyvision Benefits Counselor save the day.
Benefits Counselor, an interactive online multimedia experience, will eliminate the confusion, anxiety and drudgery employees feel when learning about their benefits. The application features a virtual host, David, who guides employees through their available benefits, asks questions along the way, and offers individualized benefit plan recommendations to each participant based on their answers. The information gleaned during the interview with David is analyzed in real-time against specific plan details, to provide a recommendation best suited to each individual.
The conversation with David relies on The Jellyvision Lab's proven design techniques in developing compelling interactive media. Not to mention its exhaustive research in the healthcare field, which turned up some shocking results: employees prefer understanding their benefits to being confused by them, enjoy fun interactive experiences more than reams of insurance documentation, and would rather spend several minutes selecting benefits than several hours.
"I mean, given a choice between learning about insurance or doing - well - practically anything else, most people will choose anything else," said Harry Gottlieb, Founder & CEO of the Jellyvision Lab, and the creator of YOU DON'T KNOW JACK. "But when you need it, insurance is REALLY important. We want to help every employee in America understand what their employer is providing them, make smart decisions for themselves and their families...and have a good time while they're doing it."
Comcast was an early adopter of Jellyvision Benefits Counselor. Benefits Project Specialist Melissa Dulin summarized the results she achieved at Comcast: "Because of the Jellyvision Benefits Counselor, Comcast was not only able to achieve our goal of providing a valuable support tool to our employees, but we were also able to increase FSA participation by 30 percent. Employees actually liked using the Jellyvision Benefits Counselor, calling it everything from helpful to downright funny."
When asked "Any more feedback?" 24% of employees who filled-in-the-blank with a response used the word "love" or "great" or "awesome" to describe their experience. When was the last time you fell head over heels for anything insurance related?
There's still time to get the Jellyvision Benefits Counselor up and running for your organization's open enrollment. For more information or to view a demo please visit http://www.jellyvisionbenefitscounselor.com/

Detroit Edison's New Online Map Sheds Light on Power Outages
DETROIT, Aug. 25 -- Detroit Edison is making it faster and easier for customers to get up-to-date restoration estimates when their power is out. The company has launched a new online power outage map that provides that information - and much more - in an instant.
The outage map is available on DTE Energy's website at dteenergy.com/outage. Customers can search for their outage by zip code or click on their location on the map to find out when power is expected to be restored, how many customers are affected, and when available, the cause of the outage. Information on the map is updated every 15 minutes.
"Our customers have told us that they want more information when their power is out, in addition to accurate restoration estimates. Those who are able to access the Internet - from a location with power, a battery operated laptop or certain smart phones - will have those details at their fingertips," said Vince Dow, DTE Energy vice president of distribution operations.
Dow said the company spent months developing the map system, reviewing those used by other utilities and conducting customer surveys and focus groups.
"Customer input was instrumental to the creation of the map," said Dow. "We listened carefully to what they said to make sure we delivered what they want."
The outage map is located on the company website's new Outage Center page, which also includes links that allow customers to report power outages and get restoral estimates online or via a mobile device. In addition, the Outage Center offers information on preparing for bad weather, and how to stay safe before and after a storm. Customers also can visit the site to report streetlight problems and sign up to receive storm alerts.
The outage map can be viewed on Android and iPhone 4 cell phones.
DTE Energy customers also can report service problems and receive restoration estimates by calling (800) 477-4747.

GLENVIEW, Ill., Aug. 25 -- Navman Wireless today announced the immediate availability of Qube 3, an upgrade to the GPS vehicle tracking device that is a core component of the company's OnlineAVL2 fleet tracking system. Featuring the lowest failure rate in the industry, the Qube has now been enhanced with advanced tamper detection, eight-day backup battery, built-in motion sensor and related alerts.
Now in its third generation, the Qube transmits real-time vehicle location and activity information to Navman Wireless' OnlineAVL2 software over the cellular network for in-depth reporting that helps managers lower fleet operating costs, reduce fuel consumption and increase productivity. The Qube unit installs in each car, van, truck, bus or other fleet vehicle, with a small footprint that allows it to be concealed if desired.
New features in Qube 3 include:
-- A tamper-resistant cover that protects all connections and thwarts
employee efforts to disable the GPS signal in order to hide
unauthorized vehicle use. If the cover is meddled with, the system
detects the interference and automatically sends real-time email or
text alerts to designated personnel.
-- An eight-day backup battery that enables continued GPS tracking even
if a thief cuts the wires that connect the Qube to the vehicle. The
new battery is built into the Qube device to prevent removal.
-- A built-in motion sensor that detects and alerts dispatchers or other
personnel to off-hours vehicle movement. This feature can help
managers prevent theft, moonlighting and personal use of the vehicle.
Like the earlier model, the new Qube also records vehicle speed, mileage, ignition on/off, entry and exit to geofenced areas, and other critical data that helps managers monitor and measure driver and fleet performance. It stores up to 100 geofences and 1,600 standard events, and has an operating range of -20 degrees C to +70 degrees C.
In addition, the Qube 3 optionally connects to Navman Wireless' mobile communication devices for drivers. Those devices - the M-Nav 760 messaging/navigation and MDT-860 messaging-only units - integrate with the OnlineAVL2 software for instant communication between dispatchers and drivers in the field.
"Our Qube tracking device has proved to be the most reliable unit in its class with a failure rate of less than .6% compared to 10, 20 and even 30% reported for other systems," said Renaat Ver Eecke, Vice President and General Manager, Navman Wireless North America. "This upgrade retains that same dependable technology to ensure that fleet managers have the data they need to optimize operations, from real-time vehicle location displayed on a single map in our OnlineAVL2 interface to detailed reports that can be used to reduce waste and drive new efficiencies."
The Qube 3 is available on a monthly lease that eliminates the need for upfront capital investment or as a one-time purchase. It was designed and is manufactured exclusively by Navman Wireless. More information is available by calling (866) 527-9896 or emailing navmanwireless@navmanwireless.com

KPMG Enhances Its File Preservation Program for ESI Collection on SharePoint Sites
NEW YORK, Aug. 25 -- KPMG LLP, the U.S. audit, tax and advisory firm and a Socha-Gelbman top provider of e-Discovery services, has released a new version of its proprietary File Preservation Program (FPP) with enhanced support for remotely collecting electronically stored information (ESI) from Microsoft Office SharePoint sites.
"The enhancements in KPMG's FPP tool allow for the preservation of multiple data types from a SharePoint site in the same format as would be viewed by the end user. This means that document review teams will see the SharePoint page exactly as the custodian saw it, with all formatting and content preserved," said Stephen Gibson, a director in research and development for KPMG's Forensic Technology Services Network.
KPMG's FPP preservation capability includes native documents, wikis, calendar items, contacts, tasks, attachments and other data sources. FPP not only preserves a snapshot of the page contents, but also preserves the back-end metadata that is stored for each of the SharePoint items collected. Additionally, during the collection process, FPP allows for real-time viewing of content on SharePoint sites.
In addition to the SharePoint enhancements, KPMG has embedded an indexing engine into FPP to allow an index and search of the contents of several ESI sources, including loose files and Outlook e-mails.
"The inclusion of its built-in search and indexing engine, in addition to the existing support for Microsoft Desktop Search, significantly increases FPP's utility and flexibility," said Paul Bright, KPMG's lead developer on the FPP project.
"The enhanced SharePoint functionality and the additional indexing and searching capabilities align perfectly with FPP's primary mission of being a leading-edge ESI collection tool," said Gibson.
About FPP
The core concept of KPMG's FPP tool is to perform forensically sound, targeted collections rather than full forensic images, thus significantly reducing the amount of non-relevant data collected and placed under preservation hold.
FPP maintains file metadata and provides robust audit logs that can easily be uploaded into an evidence-tracking database. FPP also identifies e-mail messages that are encrypted using SMIME, and can collect those messages in an unencrypted form by using the certificates already installed on the custodian's computer. All data collected by FPP is encrypted during packaging to reduce a client's exposure and mitigate risk related to potential compromise of data during transit.
For clients facing requests for production of documents in a civil setting where custodian participation in the collection process is reasonable, FPP allows counsel and the custodian to work together to isolate e-mail messages, loose files and file folders from any source available to the corporate employee that are most likely to contain relevant documents.
Because of this unique and powerful set of capabilities, FPP helps legal departments lower the overall cost of e-Discovery by significantly reducing the amount of non-relevant ESI collected.

Social Media ROI: Overdrive Interactive Launches Comprehensive Social Media Measurement Dashboard
Overdrive Interactive's SocialEye Reveals True ROI of Social Media Marketing
BOSTON, Aug. 25 -- Marketers who have been struggling to quantify the value of their social media marketing efforts may not be grappling much longer. Today, Boston digital marketing agency Overdrive Interactive launched SocialEye, a robust tracking and measurement dashboard designed to reveal the true ROI of social media marketing.
In addition to tracking newer social media metrics such as connections (friends, fans and followers) and buzz, the comprehensive SocialEye dashboard helps marketers report on the actual ROI (return on investment) of their social media efforts, reporting on metrics such as site traffic, leads and revenue generated by social media marketing efforts.
Overdrive Interactive CEO, Harry Gold said, "SocialEye goes beyond the buzz to assign hard metrics such as site traffic, leads and revenue against social media programs. Now marketers can measure the ROI from social media marketing in the same way they do everything else online."
Customers who implemented SocialEye in its pilot phase reported immediate value of the dashboard.
"Partnering with Overdrive has truly elevated the quality of our social listening and reporting," said Megan O'Malley, strategy and planning associate at Mktg. Inc. "The SocialEye platform in particular has enabled the depth and breadth of analytics that our clients had been craving but that other companies had been unable to deliver."
The SocialEye dashboard lets marketers track and analyze:
-- Social media connections such as Facebook likes and fans, Twitter
followers and blog feed subscribers
-- Page views and plays from social profiles and video channels
-- Engagement levels, including comments that show what social actions
spark consumer reactions and interaction
-- Media equivalent values showing the worth of social assets,
impressions, visits and connections
-- Site visits and actual traffic to a company's website resulting
directly from social media
-- Site conversions and transactions - actual leads and revenue from
social media marketing
SocialEye can be fully integrated with existing CRM systems to link call center inquires, offline sales and repeat sales to their originating social media sources.
See a SocialEye video, download a whitepaper about measuring social media ROI and receive a customized consultation for your company's social ROI needs by calling 617-254-5000 ext. 1103 or visiting socialeye.com.

Nasuni users benefit from the flexibility to store, distribute and retrieve data through the Internet or directly from network cloud
NATICK, Mass., Aug. 25 -- Nasuni(TM), the leading gateway to cloud storage, today announced integration between its Nasuni Filer and EMC® Atmos(TM) cloud storage to offer customers a simple, scalable and cost-effective online storage solution that leverages the power of the cloud.
EMC's Atmos cloud storage platform manages and optimizes external clouds as part of an overall private cloud strategy; the Nasuni Filer is an advanced virtual file server provisioned by the cloud. Combined, the solutions provide users the flexibility to securely store, distribute and retrieve data. Customers avoid storage-related capital outlays, and instead pay a flat monthly fee for the Filer in addition to storage use-based charges.
"Through differentiated, enterprise-ready features such as policy management, security, multi-tenancy, and a self-service management console, EMC Atmos gives service providers a comprehensive foundation for delivering cloud services and enabling their customers to consume cloud storage capacity while achieving the level of service they expect," said Jon Martin, Director of Product Management and Marketing, Cloud Infrastructure Group at EMC. "With the EMC Atmos web services API as the presentation layer, service providers can easily integrate with partners such as Nasuni to simplify file access capabilities in a cloud environment. The combination of EMC's infrastructure expertise and Nasuni's encryption capabilities, provide customers with a powerful end-to-end cloud offering."
The EMC Atmos platform has been chosen by world-class service providers and independent software vendors to enable unprecedented flexibility among cloud vendors. It automatically manages the distribution of rich, unstructured information, independent of geographic location. Nasuni-EMC integration lets storage providers further economize cloud storage, and helps customers easily access their files.
"By combining the benefits of EMC Atmos cloud storage with Nasuni's ability to provide the functionality of a traditional NAS, customers can utilize simple and cost-effective data protection," said Andres Rodriguez, CEO of Nasuni. "The cloud enables customers to expand their existing storage capacity without purchasing additional hardware. They may now enjoy considerable savings as well as increased IT productivity."
The Nasuni Filer simplifies file access, storage, and protection, while eliminating expenses inherent in hardware expansion. Because it provisions storage capacity automatically and delivers local-like performance, it can be used as primary storage instead of - or in combination with - traditional file servers. Features include synchronous snapshots, deduplication, and encryption plus key management for security. Users hesitant to use the cloud for primary storage may still use the Filer for backup.
About NasuniNasuni delivers the leading cloud storage gateway which transforms storage as a service into a practical business solution. The Nasuni Filer is a virtual NAS file server that leverages the resources of the cloud to deliver primary storage and disaster recovery protection. Targeting the mid-market, Nasuni's solution eliminates the need for incremental storage hardware, and the resulting capital expense to manage unstructured file growth. The company is backed by North Bridge Venture Partners and Sigma Partners. To download the Nasuni Filer, or for more information, visit http://www.nasuni.com.

Class is Now in Session! LG Text Ed with Jane Lynch Teaches Parents to 'Face the Facts. Send the Message.'
Emmy nominated actress and former 'text offender' to school parents about teen mobile misuse through a series of online videos with LG Mobile Phones
SAN DIEGO, Aug. 25 -- LG Mobile Phones announced today that award-winning actress Jane Lynch is bringing her iconic humor and unique talent to the LG Text Ed program, a comprehensive educational campaign for parents that addresses teen mobile phone misuse, and provides parents with valuable resources so they can teach responsible phone use to their children. Lynch - the newest member of the LG Text Ed council - is featured in a series of comedic vignettes which can be viewed on http://www.LGTextEd.com. Lynch, a new mom herself, masterfully employs her artistic abilities and the result is a video series that is both humorous and thought-provoking.
Bringing her trademark intensity and flair to the LG Text Ed campaign, Lynch is working with LG to raise awareness about risky mobile phone behavior. As the star of the videos, Lynch tackles issues such as sexting, texting while driving, mobile bullying, and other questionable teen behaviors. At the end of each video, Lynch directs parents to LGTextEd.com where they can find professional advice and guidance to help promote safe and responsible usage among their text- and tech-savvy families. As one of the leading manufacturers of texting devices and a popular brand among teens, LG hopes the videos - and Lynch's use of humor to address the issues - will inspire parents to face the facts about their teen's sometimes risky and unacceptable mobile phone habits.
In the videos, Lynch plays the role of a newly reformed "text offender" who was a self-professed texting fiend regularly engaged in mobile harassment, text rage, and other irresponsible behaviors. Lynch is busted by the police for texting while driving, and as part of her sentence, undergoes mobile rehab. Lynch re-enters society with a new-found zeal to help spread the word and LG enlists her to educate a group of uninformed parents about teen mobile misuse through a series of community service classes.
"Jane Lynch's comedic skill and new-mom status were a perfect fit for the LG Text Ed program," said Tim O'Brien, vice president of consumer and trade marketing. "We felt that Jane could deliver our message to parents with clarity, wit and authority - communicating the importance of the issue without lecturing or being condescending."
Lynch explains that her role in the campaign hits close to home. "Since becoming involved with LG on this campaign, I have realized the quick pace of parenthood," said Lynch. "So, LG brought me on board to shed some light on the issue of mobile misuse among teens. Together, we've created a series of videos that are entertaining yet speak seriously to parents about this growing issue."
Flexing both her funny and authoritative bones, Lynch has created five videos for LG that address sexting, mobile harassment, texting while driving, setting boundaries with your kids, and text message decoding for parents. Each video encourages parents to "face the facts" and "send the message" to their children that risky mobile phone behavior is unacceptable and can even be dangerous. The five videos will be rolled out over the next few months.
The videos will be housed on LGTextEd.com. A Facebook page was also created to give parents an interactive space to continue the conversation. The LG Text Ed Facebook page allows users to talk to one another, post questions, and check up on Lynch's latest classroom lessons.
LG Text Ed
The LG Text Ed program, which was launched earlier this year, offers parents a number of articles, tips, videos, and other content so they can educate themselves on the dangers of mobile phone misuse; employ strategies to help protect their children from potential problems, and discover how they might be modeling their children's mobile phone behavior.
Other LG Text Ed Advisory Council members include Rosalind Wiseman, best-selling author of Queen Bees and Wannabees (the basis for the 2004 hit film, Mean Girls); Dr. Charles Sophy, Medical Director for the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, and author of Side by Side; and Dr. Joel Haber, a clinical psychologist and bully coach, and author of Bullyproof Your Child for Life.
Parents can find additional information on the LG Text Ed initiative and mobile phone misuse by visiting http://www.lgtexted.com.

AT&T Enhances Mobile Broadband Coverage Inside Fashion Square Mall
New Distributed Antenna System Provides Additional Coverage to Help Enhance Wireless Experience for Charlottesville Customers
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Aug. 25 -- As part of its continuing network investment to support growing demand for advanced mobile devices and applications, AT&T* today announced the activation of a new antenna system in the Fashion Square Mall that will help to extend wireless service.
Known as a Distributed Antenna System, or DAS, the installation consists of several strategically placed antennas that distribute AT&T's wireless network coverage throughout the mall providing for more efficient management of wireless capacity in heavily trafficked areas. The addition of this system will help to improve call reliability, increase download speeds and enable more consistent network access to help customers make the most of their AT&T devices.
The new antenna system is part of AT&T's ongoing efforts to extend its 3G wireless network - the fastest in the nation, according to independent testing. It is also part of AT&T's previously announced plans to drive innovation and expand its mobile network in the region. From 2007 through 2009, AT&T's total capital investment in its Virginia wireless and wireline networks was nearly $600 million.
"Our goal is pretty simple: we want you to have an extraordinary experience when you make a call, check e-mail, download a song or video, or surf the Internet on your AT&T device," said Erika K, Thompson-Kemp, vice president and general manager for AT&T in Virginia and West Virginia. "Sometimes that means using creative solutions to enhance coverage in key locations such as popular shopping malls."
Wireless data traffic on the AT&T network has grown more than 5,000 percent over the past three years, largely attributed to the increasing popularity of advanced smartphones and the performance of AT&T's 3G network, the nation's fastest.
AT&T recently upgraded 3G cell sites nationwide to High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) 7.2. Future plans include another upgrade to HSPA+ technology at the end of this year followed by the initial deployment next year of LTE, the next-generation of wireless technology. These advancements, when combined with an ongoing initiative to increase the number of high-speed backhaul connections to cell sites, are a part of AT&T's strategy to provide customers with an enhanced mobile broadband experience, both today and in the future.
AT&T's 3G mobile broadband network is based on the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) family of technologies that includes GSM and UMTS, the most widely used wireless network platforms in the world. AT&T has the best international coverage of any U.S. wireless provider, providing access to voice service in over 220 countries and data service in more than 195 countries. AT&T also offers voice and data roaming coverage on more than 135 major cruise ships, as well as 3G services in more than 120 countries.
For more information about AT&T's 3G coverage in the Commonwealth or anywhere in the United States, consumers can visit http://www.wireless.att.com/coverageviewer. Using the online tool, AT&T customers can measure coverage quality of coverage from a street address, intersection, ZIP code or even a landmark.

New secure wireless access points, SonicPoint-Ni and SonicPoint-Ne, extend comprehensive security features to SonicWALL TZ, NSA and E-Class NSA Firewalls
SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 25 -- SonicWALL, Inc., a leading provider of intelligent network security and data protection solutions, today announced the addition of two new secure wireless access points to its SonicPoint(TM) Series - the SonicPoint-Ni and SonicPoint-Ne. Designed for enterprises, SMBs and distributed wireless networks, the new devices are 802.11n compliant dual-band single radio wireless secure access points that integrate seamlessly into the existing SonicWALL TZ, Network Security Appliance (NSA) and E-Class NSA product lines. These new devices provide Clean Wireless connections through integrated Gateway Anti-Virus, Intrusion Prevention, Anti-Spyware and Content Filtering, scanning all traffic for malware and inappropriate Web sites requests. The solution supports wireless encryption standards, wireless intrusion prevention services and rogue access point detection. Moreover, the new SonicPoint Series extends Next-Generation Firewall capabilities such as Application Intelligence and Control to the distributed wireless network.
Using SonicPoints with the SonicWALL Next-Generation Firewall feature set enables organizations to control and prioritize wireless access to business applications while de-prioritizing other bandwidth-hogging applications and sites (e.g. gaming applications or video streaming Web sites), that are not business-critical. IT managers are now able to allocate rights on a granular basis to specific users and groups who need to access key sets of applications while restricting access to other users and groups where appropriate. Combining Next-Generation Firewall features with the SonicWALL SonicPoint distributed wireless network solution gives users greater security by scanning for viruses, intrusions, and spyware. It increases network productivity through appropriate allocation of bandwidth to the right groups for the important applications even when roaming from one wireless access point to another.
Thanks to the integrated wireless switch and controller present in all SonicWALL firewalls, customers can now easily manage both their wireless and wired network from one firewall device. Businesses, governmental and educational institutions can rapidly and inexpensively deploy the smart access points to create local and distributed wireless networks. Retailers with concerns about the Payment Card Initiative (PCI) are able to deploy SonicWALL wireless networks with enhanced security and scan either the 2.4 or 5.0 MHz spectrums to satisfy PCI security requirements.
SonicPoint-Ni and SonicPoint-Ne are designed to easily and seamlessly extend existing SonicWALL deployments. They auto-discover and auto-provision via the integrated wireless switch and controller built into all SonicWALL firewalls. Users can roam from point to point in a network, maintaining their connectivity and authentication. Administrators access a single, consolidated policy interface to manage traffic on the wired and wireless LAN. This capability simplifies initial setup and ongoing policy management of all network segments.
"Because SonicWALL's new 802.11n compliant SonicPoints are completely integrated with our Next-Generation Firewall feature set, we've changed the landscape for small and large wireless deployments. For the first time ever, an IT manager can easily set complete policy on exactly how the wireless network will work, what applications should have priority access and which users should be granted the most rights and the least," said Patrick Sweeney, vice president of product management. "And since all that policy is part of the firewall, organizations can manage their wired and wireless network intelligently, and inexpensively."
The devices are available immediately. The suggested MSRP for SonicPoint-Ni is US$365 and the MSRP for SonicPoint-Ne is US$525. For more information on SonicWALL and its comprehensive portfolio of security solutions, please visit: http://www.sonicwall.com/.

TS2 Delivers Satellite Phones for Polish Diplomats
WARSAW, Poland, August 25, 2010-- TS2 has been awarded a contract for the supply of 150 satellite phones
to the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The equipment is intended to
secure communication in the event of emergency and the phones will be
provided to Polish ambassadors and consuls across the world. Diplomats
frequently visit regions where no conventional mobile telecommunication
system is available. Now they can use satellite connections ensuring global
coverage and safety.
The satellite telephony system is aimed to secure mobile communication
between the head office and overseas sites of the ministry in critical or
emergency situations such as: evacuation of the site, natural disasters,
breakdowns, local overload of terrestrial communication systems. They are
fully reliable, because, unlike mobile phones, they do not require
terrestrial cell sites which are not installable in some areas, and which can
be destroyed by natural disasters, sabotage or war actions.
The satellite handset, selected as a result of tender procedure, is
designed to work in just about any conditions - in rain storms, dust storms,
searing heat to sub-zero cold, tropical humidity or freezing fog. The phone
operates at -20 degreesC to +55 degreesC and transfers voice and data over
global geostationary satellites that will be operational into the 2020s.
Dust, splash and shock resistant (IP54), humidity tolerance from 0% to 95%.
TS2 http://www.ts2.pl is the leading provider of domestic and global
satellite access services. It has been providing its services amongst others,
to: the U.S. Department of State, the Department of Foreign Affairs and
International Trade Canada, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic
of Poland, United States Marine Corps (USMC), and the U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers.
