Cross-Platform Smartphone App Development Framework Offers Native Mapping For All Devices, Faster Sync and is Now Free Under MIT License
CAMPBELL, Calif., June 29 -- Rhomobile today announced Rhodes 2.0, the newest version of the industry's most powerful smartphone app development framework. Rhodes 2.0 allows developers to rapidly build native apps for all major smartphones including iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, Windows Mobile, Symbian as well as the iPad. Now available for free under the MIT license, Rhodes 2.0 provides developers with new capabilities including native mapping across all devices and a metadata framework that supports applications with changing underlying schema as well as powerful enhancements including faster sync and optimized native styling for all smartphones.
Rhodes native mapping extends the benefits of the iPhone's powerful native mapping capabilities (annotated pushpins that link to external URLs and the ability to zoom arbitrarily) to other devices such as Android and BlackBerry smartphones that otherwise wouldn't have such capabilities. The native map view is easy to implement and can be displayed with one call to the Rhodes MapView object.
Rhodes 2.0 also provides a "metadata framework." The metadata framework allows mobile apps to communicate with backend enterprise systems that have changing schemas. Developers can change a field or attribute in the back-end enterprise application and the change is reflected immediately on the application running on the device. For example, developers can write a CRM app with Rhodes that handles the backend CRM app adding a field such as "mobile phone number" to the definition of a CRM contact. Resyncing from the app would show customer information with the new field.
"Rhodes 2.0's native mapping capabilities allow us to easily create powerful location-based apps with contextual user interfaces," said Jonathan Tarud, Founder and CEO of Koombea. "And since Rhodes is a cross-platform framework, it allows us to create apps for all leading smartphones with one set of code, providing quick development and easy application maintenance."
Rhodes was built from the ground up to enable enterprise mobility efforts and is the only smartphone development framework to include essential capabilities such as sync data required by today's mobile workforce. Rhodes integration with RhoSync makes it possible for developers to add true sync to their mobile app, making data accessible to users even when they are offline and disconnected. With Rhodes 2.0's in memory data caching, sync is much faster and more robust.
"Rhodes 2.0 was built from the ground up to offer the powerful capabilities, including sync data and support for changing underlying schema, required by enterprise mobile applications," said Adam Blum, CEO of Rhomobile. "By offering Rhodes 2.0 at no cost under the MIT licenses we are providing developers with a no-risk entry to create powerful, enterprise-class native smartphone apps whether they are developing for a single smartphone OS or for all simultaneously."
The Rhodes smartphone app framework reduces development time by up to five times for a single OS as developers can leverage their web development skills and code in HTML and Ruby instead of in Objective-C or other complex native device OS language.
Rhodes 2.0 Features:
-- NEW: Metadata framework
-- NEW: Native mapping across all devices
-- NEW: Optimized native styling for all smartphones
-- EXCLUSIVE: Model View Controller for mobile app development
-- EXCLUSIVE: Object Relational Manager (ORM)

Charity Dynamics Expands Boundless Fundraising(TM) Application, Enables Nonprofits to Raise More Than $30 Million in 18 Months
Company Adds New Email Badge Feature With Automated Giving Meter, Makes More Fundraising Channels Available to Event Participants
AUSTIN, Texas, June 29 -- Charity Dynamics today announced that nonprofit groups using the company's highly successful online fundraising application, Boundless Fundraising, have now raised more than $30 million directly through the application since it was launched 18 months ago. Approximately half of this amount - $15 million - was sourced through Boundless Fundraising during the spring special event season alone.
Charity Dynamics also has expanded its Boundless Fundraising offering, which now is a suite of online fundraising applications that enable individuals to easily extend their fundraising activities to Facebook®, mobile devices and, most recently, email. More than 60 U.S. charities currently use Boundless Fundraising to increase giving and awareness for their events, including American Cancer Society, Arthritis Foundation, Autism Speaks, and National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Overall, more than 75 percent of the amount sourced through Boundless Fundraising comes from new donors to organizations - making the online solution from Charity Dynamics a significant contributor to any nonprofit's fundraising efforts.
"Boundless Fundraising allows nonprofits to easily incorporate tried and true best practices for special event fundraising - it enables event participants to reach as many potential donors as possible, and it automates their ability to make multiple fundraising appeals," said Donna Wilkins, president of Charity Dynamics. "We're thrilled with the success that Boundless Fundraising has achieved throughout the nonprofit marketplace, as well as the impact that it's had on a growing number of organizations in reaching their fundraising goals and fulfilling their missions."
In addition to $30 million raised directly through the application, Boundless Fundraising currently is being used in more than 11,000 events across the country and has been downloaded by more than 685,000 participants.
Email Badges Drive Additional Giving
The newest addition to Charity Dynamics' Boundless Fundraising suite is an online badge that individuals can add to their email signatures. The badge includes an automated fundraising meter that tracks an event participant's fundraising progress, and enables individuals to easily extend a fundraising "ask" to any and all email recipients in their network. Anyone who clicks on the email badge is immediately directed to a participant's individual fundraising page where they can quickly make an online donation.
"Boundless Fundraising opens up new channels for giving and helps event participants become better fundraisers," added Wilkins. "By broadening the Boundless Fundraising suite and enabling individuals to fundraise more effectively on Facebook, their iPhones and now their day-to-day email accounts, participants will be able to connect with more donors, drive more awareness, and raise more money for the nonprofits they support."
"As the event business becomes more crowded and competitive, it's critical for us to be able to provide the latest and greatest technology solutions for the events we produce," said Brian Pendleton, president of CauseForce. "Boundless Fundraising is a fundraiser's dream - not just because it helps increase giving for events, but because it also helps organizations to attract new donors. As an innovative technology partner, Charity Dynamics is always bringing new ideas and new online tools to the table that maximize fundraising and help make our clients' events more successful."

From strategy to implementation and beyond, Charity Dynamics partners with clients of all sizes to deliver the services, software, and support they need to get the results they want. Xirrus 802.11n Wi-Fi Arrays Provide a Robust Wireless Network for Irene McCormack Catholic College
Irene McCormack Selected Xirrus for Their Ability to Provide More Bandwidth with Fewer Devices Than Any Other Wi-Fi Vendor
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., June 29 -- Xirrus®, the Wi-Fi "Power-Play" that delivers the most coverage, bandwidth, and user density in the industry, announced today the deployment of Xirrus high performance 802.11n Wi-Fi Arrays throughout the Irene McCormack Catholic College campus in Butler, Australia. Named after an Australian missionary who spent her life ministering to the impoverished and aiding the needy, Irene McCormack Catholic College strives to provide each student with the necessary education and life skills to accomplish great things. The college chose to deploy Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays across their entire campus in order to provide seamless connectivity for all 853 students and 87 staff while also ensuring enough bandwidth and quality of service to support a one-to-one initiative for students.
"Wireless quickly became a necessity for us," said Nathan Fonceca, IT Manager at Irene McCormack Catholic College. "We are moving toward a one-to-one initiative and with that many laptops wireless was simply the best solution. We were introduced to Xirrus by a consultant and I was drawn to the way everything was built right into the Xirrus Array. The architecture of the Arrays makes managing the system easy and provides the best wireless environment for our students and staff. It's just a better solution in general."
Nathan continued by explaining their need for a robust wireless network, "Our College uses a video streaming program called ClickView® to supplement the curriculum. Videos are wirelessly streamed in every classroom and this requires quite a bit of bandwidth. We have six buildings arranged in blocks and with only six Arrays in total we were able to get everyone online with enough bandwidth to support our video streaming software. We stream a whole lot of video at this school and we haven't had any problems with the Xirrus network."
Xirrus, the only Wi-Fi "Power-Play", manufacturers the Wi-Fi Array® architecture that displaces both overlay Wi-Fi offerings and switched Ethernet to the desktop. The Wi-Fi Array integrates 4, 8, 12, 16, or 24 802.11abg+n radios coupled to a high-gain directional antenna system into a single device along with an onboard multi-gigabit switch, Wi-Fi controller, firewall, dedicated Wi-Fi threat sensor, and an embedded spectrum analyzer. The Wi-Fi Array provides more than enough bandwidth, security, and control to replace switched Ethernet to the desktop as the primary network connection. The Xirrus Wi-Fi Array delivers the most coverage, bandwidth, throughput, and user density on a per device and per system basis than anything else available on the market today - resulting in a solution that uses 75% fewer devices, cabling, switch ports, power, space, and installation time compared with any other offering.
Xirrus is a privately-held company headquartered in Thousand Oaks, California. For more information, please visit http://www.xirrus.com.

Pareto Networks Sets New Standard for Cloud-based Enterprise Networking
Redefines distributed networking with the first multi-tenant, cloud services platform; new sites can be deployed in minutes, with hardware bundled at zero cost
SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 29 -- Pareto Networks (http://www.paretonetworks.com) today unveiled the industry's first cloud-based distributed networking solution, transforming the way businesses will deploy and operate distributed networks. Cloud-based networking delivers enterprise-class network capabilities around the globe, via a highly resilient, multi-tenant application that requires no capital investment in networking equipment.
Pareto accelerates and simplifies network deployment and operations, delivers 100% centralized visibility and control, and offers the network application as an innovative, pay-as-you-grow subscription. With Pareto, enterprises can now securely roll out distributed locations, such as teleworkers, small branch offices, or mobile workgroups in minutes, with no capital investment and the flexibility to quickly scale the network up or down as business needs change.
"The parallels are striking between networking today and customer relationship management software of ten years ago," said Matthew Palmer, co-founder and CEO of Pareto Networks. "Deploying and managing a CRM solution was overly complex, time-intensive and extremely expensive before Salesforce.com entered the picture with their cloud-based service and changed everything. The same could be said for networking; before today, enterprises had no choice but to purchase expensive equipment, build out the infrastructure and hire scores of experts to troubleshoot and keep the network running. It's time for this to change."
With its cloud-based service, Pareto eliminates the costs and complexities associated with legacy, hardware-based solutions, by bundling Ethernet, Wi-Fi and 3G-ready network appliances at no extra cost. By leveraging the cloud and existing broadband connectivity, deployment of new remote locations can be accomplished in minutes. Pareto's cloud-based application gives enterprises centralized control over all their network and security policies, and provides visibility of critical network performance metrics.
"It was becoming increasingly difficult to support all of our distributed users," said Len Lombardo, CTO at Taconic Capital. "Pareto's cloud-based networking solutions removed the complexity and enabled us to quickly and cost-effectively scale to deliver full network and security services wherever our users are located."
Managed Service Providers who are looking to reduce their costs without impacting the performance of their services can also benefit from Pareto's offering.
"Cloud-based network services have the ability to significantly streamline network operations and bring a comprehensive suite of services to both mid-size and distributed enterprises," said Mark Fabbi, Vice President, Distinguished Analyst, Gartner, Inc. "Vendors with a range of multi-tenant service capabilities for access, security, address management and policy control can reduce provisioning time and provide capabilities for a dynamic, distributed workforce."
Pareto's fully redundant cloud services platform is distributed globally with data centers located across three continents, combining resiliency and built-in disaster recovery for the entire network infrastructure to ensure the highest levels of availability. Pareto also provides military-grade encryption and multiple layers of its own security to further guarantee the availability, dependability and integrity of the distributed network.
Pareto Branch on Demand(TM) - A Transformative Cloud-based Networking Solution
The company's first line of cloud-based solutions, Pareto Branch on Demand, consists of three components:
-- Pareto Cloud Services(TM), a multi-tenant application that centralizes
network and security policy configuration, provisioning,
troubleshooting, address management, log management, monitoring and
reporting;
-- Pareto Branch Gateway(TM) devices, that deliver Ethernet, 802.11n
Wi-Fi and 3G WWAN, along with firewall, proxy and user-based
authentication, bundled at no cost for deployment in remote locations
and the data center;
-- Pareto Virtual Branch Gateway(TM), a VMware, software-based gateway
for the enterprise data center and securely connecting to cloud
environments.
Pareto Cloud Services was built from the ground up, with a global multi-tenant architecture to enable large-scale, worldwide deployments from day one. Administrators can easily access and manage the network from anywhere, eliminating the need to install multiple management systems or controllers in the data center. They can even view and troubleshoot their cloud-based network anywhere, anytime using their Apple® iPhone, iPod and iPad, with the Pareto Cloud Mobile(TM) App, also immediately available.
"We are not simply taking a legacy, single-tenant management application, hosting it, and calling it cloud-based networking. Just as Salesforce.com's multi-tenant architecture differentiated it from hosted and on-premise CRM solutions, Pareto's architecture and business model eliminates the need to purchase routers, access points, switches and firewalls to set a new standard for distributed networking," added Palmer.
Pareto Branch on Demand empowers enterprises to deploy and manage their own secured, distributed network, without the burden of assembling the individual components. The solution utilizes existing Internet connectivity provisioned to a remote location, or can leverage 3G WWAN services for Internet access.
Rapid Network and Security Integration with Cloud-based Services Partners
Pareto has pioneered a new approach to integrate with leading, cloud-based service providers, so that advanced network, security and application services can be added to the Pareto solution in minutes. Much like the consumer internet, where web apps like Facebook and Twitter can be paired to interoperate, Pareto customers can link other network and security applications to their distributed network via Pareto Cloud Services. By partnering and integrating with the leaders of cloud-based DNS, OpenDNS, cloud-based authentication, VeriSign, and web security-as-a-service, McAfee, Pareto is pioneering an entirely new model for network and security services integration.
"Pareto's integration with the McAfee SaaS Web Protection will provide proven cloud-based web security, offering enterprise vital defenses against web-based malware attacks," said Marc Olesen, Senior Vice President & General Manager of Content & Cloud Security for McAfee. "Together, we deliver the scale and cost-efficiency promises of the cloud in a single, easy to use solution."
"The combination of cloud-based networking from Pareto Networks and two-factor authentication solutions from VeriSign delivers significant TCO savings for our customers," said Kerry Loftus, Vice President of User Authentication at VeriSign. "Our cloud-based two-factor authentication services eliminate up-front CAPEX investment and dramatically simplify the deployment and on-going management of user-based network authentication throughout the distributed network."
"Pareto truly addresses the network intelligence and scalability needs of today's network professional," said David Ulevitch, CEO of OpenDNS. "With our combined offerings, customers can leverage the economies of the cloud to deliver a complete networking solution, while providing the control and reliability needed via OpenDNS's superior cloud-based DNS solution to ensure a safer, faster, smarter and more reliable network."
Availability
Pareto Branch On Demand is available immediately for an annual subscription starting at $228 per site, which includes all hardware, support, maintenance and future feature upgrades. For more information visit http://www.paretonetworks.com, email info@paretonetworks.com or call the toll free number at 1-877-727-8020.

Coach USA Partners with Core Services Corporation for a Successful Upgrade to Oracle E-Business Suite R12
Core Services Delivers On Time and On Budget
SOMERSET, N.J., June 29 -- Core Services Corporation ("Core Services"), an Oracle Platinum Partner, is pleased to announce the successful completion of a major Oracle R12 upgrade project with Coach USA. This accomplishment is just one more example of Core Services' deep consulting and technical expertise with the Oracle E-Business Suite. Through their mutually beneficial collaborative partnership, Core Services and Coach USA were able to effectively and efficiently complete this upgrade.
"Initially, Coach USA selected another vendor to help us with our Oracle R12 upgrade," says Ralph Groen, Director of Information Systems at Coach USA. "However, after the other vendor failed to adequately perform, we engaged Core Services and saw immediate results. The Core Services team of experts more than exceeded our expectations by delivering our upgrade on budget and on schedule. We are delighted with how well our strategic partnership with Core Services worked."
"Coach USA was lagging behind on several major Oracle E-Business Suite release levels," says Robert Laughlin, Core Services' Vice President of Consulting. "Premier Support for EBS 11.5.10 officially ends in November 2010 so that choosing to stay with that version would normally result in additional maintenance fees for Extended Support." Laughlin continues, "After our initial assessment, Coach USA agreed with us that a full re-implementation was the most effective strategy for Coach USA. Core Services was able to deploy its highly skilled consulting and database administration ("DBA") teams to get the job done." Laughlin explains, "By providing a full solutions support team, the upgrade process was seamless, allowing Core Services to maintain Coach USA's older applications and data base versions while completing the Oracle R12 upgrade."
Groen concludes, "In addition to bringing Coach USA into Oracle version compliance, we are confident that upgrading to Oracle R12 will reduce our administrative costs while simultaneously providing us with cutting edge technology and functionality. Core Services provided the leadership that both drove this mission critical project and delivered maximum value across our organization."

(NASDAQ:SONS), a leader in IP networking, and BICS, the fourth largest wholesale voice provider in the world, today announced the successful completion of the operator's IP-based core network migration, a massive undertaking equivalent to more than 10,000 E1 TDM and SIP trunks. Featuring advanced IP capabilities such as centralized routing, hybrid trunking and secure session border control, the new core IP network was completed in record time for a network of its size and under strict requirements of no downtime for BICS' existing end customers during the migration.
"We are extremely pleased with the IP networking know-how and the ability of Sonus architects and services personnel to deliver on large scale projects with complex integration and risk management requirements, as evidenced by the success of this ambitious project that was completed in less than 15 months," commented Pierre-Andre Rulmont, Chief Technical Officer for BICS. "With our advanced IP core network in place, we now have a way to linearly scale our capacity and offer new IP-based services to address customer demand while consolidating and managing traffic from Africa, the Middle East and Asia using only a few central locations, and continuing to ensure the security of our network borders."
The network transformation involved replacing TDM trunking with a SIP core, adding centralized routing and policy management capabilities while assuring inter-working with the legacy ISUP connections, and supporting the multitude of international standards currently in use by BICS. As one of the largest wholesale voice providers in the world, BICS has a diverse and growing customer base with unique requirements, so it was important to be able to service the existing customers while also enabling enhanced service offerings for the new customers.
"BICS is a great example of a large tier-one service provider that has demonstrated thought leadership in its approach to architecting its network for business growth," said Guru Pai, chief operating officer at Sonus Networks. "Using Sonus' unique hybrid trunking solution, BICS can gracefully migrate its legacy TDM connections to IP without causing a service disruption, manage multiple traffic types centrally, and at the same time start rolling out new IP services using the flexible IP core."
The Sonus next generation network deployed at BICS will centrally manage policy and routing on the BICS network regardless of the traffic type. The same implementation will concurrently support BICS legacy TDM traffic and next generation IP traffic. As their wholesale customers move to all IP environments, the BICS investments in Sonus GSX hardware will transition to Sonus NBS border security and media transcoding, without requiring a forklift.
The new BICS core IP network is made up of the GSX9000(TM) Open Services Switch, PSX(TM) Call Routing Server, SGX(TM) Signaling Gateway, the Sonus Insight(TM) Management System, as well as the NBS9000(TM) Network Border Switch for enhanced border security and advanced IP peering capabilities.

The Apache Software Foundation Announces Apache Tomcat Version 7.0
Newest version of leading Open Source Java Web server now available, with full support for latest versions of Java Servlet, JSP, and EL specifications
FOREST HILL, Md., June 29 -- The Apache Software Foundation (ASF) - the all-volunteer developers, stewards, and incubators of 143 Open Source projects and initiatives - today announced the Version 7.0 release of Apache Tomcat, the multi-award winning Open Source Java Web server.
One of the ASF's earliest projects, the Tomcat code base was first donated to the ASF in 1999; the first Apache release, v.3.0, was made later that year. Apache Tomcat 7 is the project's first major release since 2006, fully implementing the Java Servlet 3.0, JavaServer Pages (JSP) 2.2, and Expression Language (EL) 2.2 specifications for easier Web framework integration.
Tomcat 7 makes it simpler to write and deploy complex Web applications, providing out-of-the-box support for development features that would otherwise be coded manually.
Apache Tomcat is shepherded by dozens of volunteers who contribute updates to its code base; its day-to-day operations, including community development and product releases, are overseen by a Project Management Committee.
"Developers can rely on Tomcat 7 for faster, more reliable application development and integration, providing both a better user experience and better use of server resources," explained Mark Thomas, member of the Apache Tomcat Project Management Committee.
With more than 10 million downloads to date, Apache Tomcat powers a broad range of mission-critical Websites and applications across countless industries and use cases, from Fortune 500 conglomerates to service providers to eCommerce systems.
"MuleSoft applauds the Apache Tomcat team on the release of Tomcat 7," said Ross Mason, founder and CTO of MuleSoft. "The improvements in this new release leverage advances in Java, including the Servlet 3 specification, significantly improving the lives of the world's Web application developers. This release includes more than 10 years of active community development effort, continuing Tomcat's lead as the best Java web application server to power the enterprise."
"I am delighted to see this first release of Apache Tomcat 7. Tomcat has always been the most popular deployment platform for Spring-based applications and this new release adds some great production technology," says Rod Johnson, general manager of the SpringSource division of VMware. "Tomcat's small footprint and reliable execution make it the ideal choice for the runtime component of SpringSource's tc Server. These features are also proving particularly important as organizations move their workloads to the cloud."
Developers using Tomcat 7 will also benefit from improved memory leak detection and prevention and support for 'aliasing' directories into an application's URL space. All known bugs reported in previous versions of Tomcat have been fixed in v.7.0.
Tomcat versions 5.N and 6.N will continue to be supported, however, bug fixes or updates to possible security vulnerabilities in earlier versions may be slightly delayed.
Availability
Tomcat 7 is released under the Apache Software License v2.0. Downloads, documentation, and related resources are available at http://tomcat.apache.org/.

Dot Hill Launches Next Generation 6Gb SAS End-to-End Storage Arrays
Supports 24/7/365 Business Needs for High Throughput and Exceptional Performance as well as Reduced Cost and Complexity of Storage Configurations
LONGMONT, Colo., June 29 -- Dot Hill Systems Corp. (NASDAQ:HILL), a provider of world-class storage solutions and software for OEMs, open storage partners and system integrators, today announced it is now shipping its next generation 3000 Series storage arrays featuring "end-to-end" 6Gb storage to deliver high throughput and exceptional performance and to answer the industry's call for infrastructure that meets the needs of today's 24/7/365 business computing environments.
Dot Hill is introducing two models: the 3520 2U 24-drive solution that leverages high performance, energy-saving 2.5-inch drives, and the 3530 2U 12-drive standard array, which offers the lowest overall price for 24TB of storage utilizing 2TB 3.5-inch drives. Each controller includes four 6Gb SAS 2.0 connections, for a maximum of eight host-attach connections per storage array. The Dot Hill 3520 and 3530 enable businesses to expand storage dynamically and easily in direct-attached storage environments. With four ports per controller, the solutions deliver exceptional performance, while eliminating the need for a switched SAN environment.
The 3520/3530 also helps reduce costs involved with server clustering - enabling IT managers to reap the benefits of this environment (higher availability, reliability, and scalability) in a more cost-effective manner. The 3520/3530 enables IT managers to establish a server cluster without the cost or expense of a switch. With eight total ports, the 3520 and 3530 enable up to eight servers to access the same storage system, or four servers with redundant cabling - enabling a low-cost, switchless SAN environment.
The 3000 Series provides ultimate scalability and flexibility, with support for SSD, SAS, and SATA drives for tiered storage initiatives, with expansion of up to seven JBOD systems, and up to 144 2.5-inch drives.
Other key features of the new models include Dot Hill's advanced data management offerings for snapshot and volume copy, energy-efficient drive spin-down, and mixed drive-type support, as well as additional design features that serve to lower the cost and complexity of storage configurations, enabling IT managers to support initiatives such as server clustering.
The new offerings are the latest additions to Dot Hill's 3000 Series introduced in February 2010 -- feature-rich, entry level storage solutions that rival more costly midrange products, providing small-to-medium businesses (SMBs) and data center managers with access to cost-effective and energy-efficient storage options. The hallmark high throughput and I/O performance of the 3000 Series makes it ideal for performance-intensive applications such as server virtualization, server backup, video and media, as well as databases and email. Dot Hill's 3000 Series also offers 8Gb Fibre Channel arrays, and dual-protocol 8Gb Fibre Channel/1Gb iSCSI RAID storage arrays.
Features and Functionality Address Today's Business Requirements, Delivering Benefits Far Beyond the Data Center
Dot Hill's 3520 and 3530 arrays feature full 6Gb SAS end-to-end connectivity throughout the entire system, including the drives, backplane and host connections, addressing the industry's need for higher bandwidth connections between servers and directly attached storage to support faster application data access speeds. With SAS 2.0 capability, each server connection can deliver up to 24Gb/second data throughput, significantly higher than Fibre Channel and iSCSI alternatives.
Additionally, the 3530 and 3520 are NEBS Level 3- and MIL STD 810F-compliant and offer the requisite level of ruggedization to meet the most stringent requirements. The arrays also include a number of eco-friendly features, including drive-spin-down to reduce power consumption during non-peak hours and Bronze-rated, 80+ efficient power supplies.
"High performance storage solutions that also lower the overall cost and complexity of management and deployment are most needed by businesses today," said Jim Jonez, senior director of marketing of Dot Hill Systems. "The addition of SAS host-attach to our 3000 Series storage arrays delivers scalability and reliability to a larger audience with the most transaction-intensive and demanding computing environments, and supports deployment flexibility and configuration agility to address emerging requirements and improve storage ROI."
Additional features of the 3000 Series include:
Eco-friendly -- Enhancements such as drive-spin-down capability and Bronze-rated power supplies reduce operating costs. All 3000 Series models include Dot Hill's patented EcoStor(TM) "green" battery-free alternative for cache memory, which leverages a combination of super capacitors and flash memory that outlasts traditional batteries. Businesses can lower maintenance and disposal costs, and reduce server and application down-time associated with battery replacement.
Advanced data protection -- The 3000 Series comes with optional AssuredSnap(TM) (with up to 1000 snapshots capability) and AssuredCopy(TM) data protection software (supporting up to 128 volume copies), providing the necessary protection for business- critical applications such as email.
Configuration and management made easy -- The 3520/3530 SAS arrays are easy to configure and manage with RAIDar 2.0, Dot Hill's intuitive web-based interface which provides storage setup and monitoring without the need for host-based software. RAIDar 2.0 saves time with configuration and installation wizards, and schedulers for snapshots and replication.
Additional Information and Availability
The Dot Hill 3520 and 3530 are now shipping through major OEM partners and will be available via Dot Hill resellers starting in July. More information can be obtained on specific products and features at http://www.dothill.com/products/direct-attached-storage.

The included policy based replication allows organizations to avoid the high cost of traditional replication licenses and enables granular control of how and where data is stored, either within an hNode for content that can't leave the datacenter or replicated to the Storage Delivery Network unleashing additional capacity, performance, and distributed access capabilities.
hNode: Powered by market-leading cloud storage technology
Nirvanix was the first enterprise cloud storage service and has spent over three years developing market-leading cloud storage technology and partnerships that simplify access. Nirvanix hNode utilizes the Nirvanix Internet File System (IFS) enabling massive scalability designed to handle millions of users and billions of files under a single global namespace. This means that each hNode can scale to meet even the largest storage requirements while enabling instant access and insight into content. In addition, hNode has various access methods including the Nirvanix API (SOAP/REST), Nirvanix CloudNAS (CIFS/NFS), and through multiple ISVs including CommVault, Atempo, Arkeia, Gladient, Nasuni, Ocarina Networks, Tarmin, Vembu and others.
"If you're looking at the cloud with thoughts of accessing new classes of storage or compute with better economics than ever available before, then Nirvanix is once again showcasing how it should be done," said Jeff Boles, Sr. Analyst and Director of Validation Services at The Taneja Group. "In the midst of all of the cloud buzz, too many vendors miss that the cloud is about unlocking new ways for customers to use IT and benefit. Nirvanix gets this, and with hNode, Nirvanix is bringing not just a gateway appliance, but rather the full Nirvanix cloud to the customers' premises - with all the benefits of elastic scale, API accessibility, sophisticated geographic dispersal, and more. I fully expect hNode's security, high speed access, and flexible integration with other Nirvanix storage nodes to keep Nirvanix at the head of the pack when it comes to delivering cloud storage that can address challenging content demands behind enterprise-sized customers."
"Nirvanix hNode provides a unique solution that combines the scalability and ease of management of our enterprise cloud storage service with the security, control and visibility of having a storage solution within your datacenter," said Jim Zierick, President and CEO of Nirvanix. "Large organizations now have the ability to define where they want to store their data, whether it's keeping it secure within the four walls of their datacenter or unleashing the capacity and distributed access capabilities of the Nirvanix Storage Delivery Network. We are excited to once again be leading the cloud storage market by providing a unique, innovative solution that can immediately simplify organizations' storage management processes and optimize their workflows globally."

The Children's Rare Disease Network Partners With Medpedia.com to Create RareSpace
Online Knowledge Share Platform to Provide Valuable Information to Rare Disease Community
DANA POINT, Calif., June 29 -- Every parent needs a supportive, collaborative network full of information where medical professionals, researchers, patients, parents, advocates and the general public share knowledge about the rare childhood diseases that affect 22.5 million American families. RareSpace is an online knowledge sharing platform designed in partnership with R.A.R.E. Project, the Children's Rare Disease Network and Medpedia.com to help grow resources for children with special needs. This resource is available online now at http://www.medpedia.com/communities/274-RareSpace.
"RareSpace is a unique and valuable tool for families caring for children with rare diseases," says Jonathan Jacoby, CEO of the R.A.R.E Project. "With the help of Medpedia.com, RareSpace will become a safe place to share important information aggregated from the rare disease community at large, which is vital to finding hope for children."
It's the collaborative structure of RareSpace that makes it truly unique. The site will educate and connect users about critical resources, innovations in research, standards of care as well as best practices in treating rare diseases and disorders. Creating a community filled with medical professionals, policy advocates, researchers and parents catalyzes a free exchange of information, increasing the general knowledge quotient of every stakeholder. The goal is to supply real resources and connections for those who are in the care of children living with rare diseases and disorders, and help each family not feel isolated in their struggles to care, treat and advocate for these sick children.
"It's so critical for families and caregivers to have a knowledge bank like RareSpace to draw from," says Devon Watts, community manager at Medpedia.com. "We are excited that Medpedia.com is a part of connecting a community and granting an open space for dialogue and education. It's the widespread sharing of information that will benefit patients most. "
Different from other community sites, one key advantage of RareSpace is that people can share documents and resources very easily. Discussions of genetics and genetic diseases in general happen on RareSpace, with the understanding that research on all these diseases could lead to cures for other genetic disorders as well. Articles on translational research and discussions of possible cures for diseases can be found on RareSpace. A major benefit is that medical professionals will answer questions posed by site users about treatment, best practices and how to best help these children and their families. Users will create profiles and have the opportunity to upload documents and links and connect with other users all within the RareSpace portal. In addition to connecting within RareSpace, users will have the ability to create disease specific groups that can all be linked with RareSpace. This robust platform provides numerous ways to share critical information and knowledge across the rare disease community, which can be done in a safe environment that includes representation from all of the key stakeholders involved in rare disease.

Exar Delivers Industry's First Backup-to-Disk Hardware Compression Solution for Microsoft(R) Windows Server(R) 2008
BitWackr(TM) C Cuts Backup-to-Disk Capacity Requirements in Half and Reduces Backup Time by Two-Thirds
FREMONT, Calif., June 29 -- Exar Corporation (NASDAQ:EXAR) introduced the industry's first hardware-accelerated backup-to-disk data compression solution for Microsoft® Windows Server® 2008 servers and appliances. The addition of Exar's BitWackr C Series to a Microsoft Windows Server equipped with popular backup software typically cuts backup-to-disk capacity requirements in half while reducing backup time by as much as two-thirds.
Until now, the use of hardware compression has been restricted to tape drives while disk and RAID data compression has been performed by software running on a server's CPU. The value of hardware compression in tape drives is well established because it reduces the backup data footprint - typically by half - while improving backup performance. By adding hardware compression to disk and RAID with the BitWackr C Series, storage managers can now bring the performance and capacity reduction benefits formerly seen only with tape to disk-based backup.
"In today's IT environment increasing efficiency is the name of the game," said Bob Farkaly, director, storage product marketing, Exar. "The BitWackr C Series provides OEMs, System Integrators, and Value-Added Resellers an opportunity to deliver a new optimization tool to their customers. Additionally, combining the BitWackr C Series with newly-emerging deduplicating backup software offerings from Symantec, CA Technologies, Commvault, BakBone and others can turbo charge the data reduction ratios reported by these products."
Disk storage can be either internal to the server or appliance, directly attached to the server or appliance via SCSI or SAS, or SAN attached using iSCSI or Fibre Channel. Offering high levels of both single and multi-stream performance, an off-the-shelf server equipped with BitWackr C Series compression is capable of backing up Enterprise data at line rates and is compatible with all popular backup software offerings. After installation and configuration, BitWackr C Series reduces backup data stored on disk transparently and in-line - typically by 2:1 - while improving backup performance. In addition to backup to disk, the BitWackr C Series is suitable for a broad range of applications including NAS, SharePoint and System Center Data Protection Manager.
Lab Testing
Exar tested both traditional backup software products and the latest generation of backup software products that feature data deduplication. As detailed in the test results, the BitWackr C Series for Windows Servers simultaneously reduced the amount of backup data that needed to be stored (by nominally 2:1) while improving backup performance, hence shortening the backup window. Average four (4) stream traditional, non-deduplicating backup performance was enhanced by the BitWackr C Series by 52% above that delivered by the same backup software backing up the same data using the same OS, backup server and disk subsystem. Additional test results are included in the "BitWackr C Series Product Profile and Testing Results Paper" which is available by request.
Availability
The BitWackr C Series is comprised of software and a PCI-Express acceleration card and is available for purchase today. Samples and evaluation kits are available now by request. For further details please visit: http://www.exar.com/Common/Content/Default.aspx?id=7882.

Alcatel-Lucent Acquires Leading Web 2.0 API Repository ProgrammableWeb
Invests to Build a Bridge Between Service Providers, Enterprises, and Application Developers to Accelerate the Creation of Web, Mobile and Multimedia Apps
PARIS, June 29, 2010-- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced that it has
acquired ProgrammableWeb, the technology industry's universal source for Web
APIs (application programming interfaces) used by application developers to
build web, mobile, and other connected applications that serve consumers and
the workplace. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Web APIs enable developers to create new applications leveraging various
kinds of content and functionality. Alcatel-Lucent's acquisition of
ProgrammableWeb will help bring together an ecosystem of service providers,
enterprises, and developers to drive the creation of unique applications
today and in the new world of broadband mobile through LTE.
ProgrammableWeb will continue to operate as a separate entity,
maintaining its repository of over 2,000 Web APIs which are regularly
accessed by a community of hundreds of thousands of developers, and
continuing its role as the industry's most comprehensive content source for
Web services development. Alcatel-Lucent will provide support and resources
to promote the continued and robust growth of the API and developer
ecosystem, and facilitate service providers' participation within that
ecosystem.
For Alcatel-Lucent this acquisition provides an important new channel to
partner with the Web developer community - a dialog it has started with its
Open API Service (see link below) and Developer Platform (see link below). It
also gives Alcatel-Lucent access to general API usage patterns, allowing it
to build highly relevant API Bundles (see link below) for its Open API
Service. ProgrammableWeb's API monitoring services, API trial services, and
automated API updates will be integrated into Alcatel-Lucent's Developer
Platform. In addition, Alcatel-Lucent will be able to share its developer
resources, such as its dashboard that helps developers track application
monetization, with ProgrammableWeb's developer community.
"If you look at any organization that launches an API, you quickly
realize that the one thing the most successful APIs have in common is a
vibrant developer ecosystem," said Laura Merling, vice president of
Alcatel-Lucent's global developer strategy. "Our goal is to protect the
uniqueness and independence of ProgrammableWeb as an API repository and
developer resource, while adding beneficial technologies and service provider
relationships to the mix for everyone's benefit."
This move advances Alcatel-Lucent's Application Enablement (see link
below) strategy, which is focused on combining the trusted and secure network
capabilities of service providers with the speed and creativity of the Web to
provide a richer end-user experience.
"ProgrammableWeb has always sought to put developers first, by giving
them the most timely and comprehensive picture of everything related to
APIs," said John Musser, ProgrammableWeb founder who is moving to
Alcatel-Lucent, but will continue to oversee the repository's operation.
"That mission will be strengthened and expanded by joining forces with
Alcatel-Lucent. As APIs become more central to software strategies in all
domains, we'll make ProgrammableWeb an even better one-stop independent
source."

- Removes Final Barrier to Virtualization of Enterprise-Wide, Tier-one
Computing
- This is a new and Unique Offering
The Virtual Machine Company(1) has begun offering Check Point Software
Technologies' VPN-1 VETM security as an option on its pre-configured
Virtualization Appliances. This is a new and unique development that, the
company believes, overcomes the last remaining barrier to widespread adoption
of virtualization of enterprise-wide, tier-one computing.
The Virtual Machine Company's high performance virtualization appliances
can now be pre-secured as well as being pre-configured and fully-supported.
Until now, virtualization security has tended to flounder in muddy waters
between product delivery and security specialisms. Security value added
resellers (VARs) have been healthily skeptical of virtualization, avoiding
mainstream involvement. Virtualization VARs, meanwhile, have been ambivalent
about security, either not fully addressing it or inappropriately patching it
into existing security infrastructure.
Virtual Machine Company CEO, Steve Barnet, said:
"In spite of analyst predictions that over half of the millions of
servers sold in the next couple of years will be used for virtualization,
there's been a justifiable skepticism amongst savvy IT managers about
enterprise-wide, tier-one virtualization. By adding Check Point security to
our virtualization appliances we've driven the business case for virtualizing
everyday computing onto no-brainer territory."
(1) About the Virtual Machine Company
Based in Cambridge, UK, the Virtual Machine company offers its customers
a unique combination of networking and security expertise, disciplined
virtualization planning and management software, and ready-to-rack-and-roll
virtualization appliances with meaningful 24/7 support and a 50-percent
longer supported lifespan than industry-standard servers. The Virtual Machine
Company was founded by former European managing director of Check Point
Software Technologies, Steve Barnett.
HIT Mobile and T-Mobile Team Up to Open 1st Latino Playground Store in Cudahy
New Store Supports Hispanic Entrepreneurs and Caters to Latino Consumers with T-Mobile's Suite of Communication Products and Services
LOS ANGELES, June 28 -- HIT Mobile Inc., in partnership with T-Mobile USA Inc., today unveiled a fresh way for Latino consumers to experience and shop for communication services with the opening of a new retail location as part of the company's T-Mobile Premium Retailer Latino (TPR Latino) program.
The store in the City of Cudahy will feature a wide variety of wireless products and services in a very interactive shopping environment - the first TPR Latino location designed in the company's "playground" format which encourages customer interaction with staff and includes features that makes store visits more hands-on and dynamic. All TPR Latino stores are immediately identifiable by their "Estamos Juntos" signage and offer welcoming store designs with children's play areas and bilingual in-store materials. The TPR program is one of T-Mobile's highest-caliber, branded partner programs with locations that are owned and operated by third party experts in wireless services. All stores have the same look and feel of a T-Mobile company store with access to all T-Mobile's internal tools and systems. Through the TPR Latino program, T-Mobile looks to partner with knowledgeable entrepreneurs who want to open locations in multicultural communities they know extremely well. The Cudahy store will operate under the ownership and management of Martinez, a long-time professional in the wireless industry.
"Mauro is exactly what we are looking for in a business partner," said Diego Andrade, National Account Manager for T-Mobile USA. "He has solid credentials, name recognition in the Hispanic community, in-depth knowledge of the wireless business, and has T-Mobile's total support."
Martinez was selected as the latest member of the TPR Latino initiative in large part because of his extensive knowledge of the Hispanic customer.
"I have spent years working in the Latino community, I fully understand and appreciate its shopping habits, buying patterns and so much more," said Martinez. "That includes hiring from the area, building a team reflective of the community and giving back to ensure success for everyone."
Martinez and T-Mobile plan to open new stores in Monterey Park and Panorama City in the coming months and several more across Southern California by mid-2011. The Cudahy retail store located at 7200 Atlantic Ave is open: Monday - Saturday, 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.

CTB/McGraw-Hill and Promethean Alliance Enables Educators to Provide Targeted Instruction in Real-Time
Promethean ActivExpression Learner Response Devices now available with CTB's Acuity UnWired® InFormative Assessment(TM) solution
DENVER, June 28 -- ISTE Conference (Booth 610) -- CTB/McGraw-Hill, a leader in PreK-12 and adult education, and Promethean, a leading provider of interactive learning technology, today announced an alliance linking the Promethean ActivExpression Learner Response Devices ("clickers") to CTB's Acuity UnWired® InFormative Assessment(TM) solution.
Students can take assessments using the wireless ActivExpressions instead of pencils and paper or computer terminals. Teachers can use a test booklet or project questions onto a screen. Students enter answers using the ActivExpression, which transmits their responses to a receiver plugged into the USB port of the instructor's computer. Acuity UnWired instantly displays student responses and percent correct scores and uploads student performance data to Acuity, generating more intensive, standards-aligned reports within minutes. The instantaneous feedback gives educators the ability to provide students with targeted instruction in real-time, making true data-driven instruction a reality.
"Our alliance with Promethean will have a direct and powerful impact on students," said Ellen Haley, President of CTB/McGraw-Hill. "The integration of Promethean's ActivExpressions with Acuity UnWired enables educators to immediately identify critical areas of need in order to redirect the trajectory of a student's academic growth."
The combination of Promethean's ActivExpressions with CTB's Acuity UnWired yields immediate, concrete benefits, which allow teachers to:
-- view real-time results and quickly make critical instructional
decisions,
-- generate standards-aligned Acuity reports within minutes that can be
shared at the classroom, school, and district levels,
-- eliminate the need to print, barcode, distribute, collect, and scan
answer sheets,
-- deliver assessments with minimal preparation and no computer lab time
required, and,
-- engage students during the assessment process with inspiring and
motivating technology.
Promethean ActivExpressions offer new and unprecedented opportunities for student involvement and assessment. These handheld devices with an LCD display feature full text capability enabling numeric, sentence-based, symbolic responses together with standard yes/no, true/false and multiple-choice answers. The Expressions are easy-to-use tools for assessment and instruction - working on the fly, ready to query the class at any time. Each device gives individual students a voice while equipping teachers with a method for delivering dynamic lessons tailored to the immediate assessment of student performance. This completely wire-free response system utilizes radio frequency technology to ensure a safe and secure mode of test administration.
"Giving teachers the tools to conduct real-time assessments will help ensure that students are on pace to achieve their learning goals. Our ActivExpression devices are ideally suited to support the use of Acuity UnWired," said Mark Elliott, President of Promethean North America. "The Expressions allow teachers to provide immediate instructional feedback and customize lessons to address specific student needs faster than ever."
Since its release in 2009, Acuity UnWired has been deployed in hundreds of schools, with universally successful results. In informal classroom surveys, students noted almost unanimously that they preferred handheld clickers, not only to paper and pencil, but also to online testing. Teachers also reported a high level of comfort and ease of use, and district officials were very satisfied.
Demonstrations of ActivExpression learner response devices with Acuity UnWired will be conducted at ISTE 2010, being held at the Denver Convention Center on June 27-30, 2010. CTB is proud to be a Tier 3 sponsor of ISTE, and will be exhibiting in Booth #610. Private briefings will be held in the Korbel Ballroom #4B, located on the lower level. To schedule a private briefing, contact Brandon Engle, Communications Manager, CTB/McGraw-Hill, at 916.933.1291 or Brandon_Engle@ctb.com.

Xirrus Makes e-Learning Possible at Corona-Norco Unified School District
Corona High Replaces Existing Legacy Access Points with Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays to Support Wireless Initiatives
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., June 28 -- Xirrus®, the leader in High Performance Wi-Fi that delivers the most coverage, bandwidth, and user density in the industry, announced today the deployment of Xirrus high performance 802.11n Wi-Fi Arrays at several Corona-Norco Unified School District schools located in Southern California. The district recently implemented laptop carts to bring online curricular resources and e-Learning platforms into the classrooms. However, their existing wireless infrastructure could not support the user density produced by this initiative. In order to fully utilize the wireless clients, the school upgraded their wireless system to Xirrus Wi-Fi Arrays, which provide 8X the bandwidth of legacy access points.
"Density is the biggest issue that we've had with wireless in our district," said Brian Troudy, IT Manager at Corona-Norco USD. "We've had serious issues being able to accommodate the laptop carts that we've deployed throughout the campuses. We had another wireless vendor installed but based on the density issues we knew we needed to look at an alternative. The Xirrus product was very much targeted toward our specific issues, so we began to look at that and have had great success so far - in fact, we have teachers who were once turned off from using the laptop carts out of frustration who are now coming back and wanting to use the carts again. That's a pretty powerful statement that speaks for itself."
April Moore, Assistant Principal in charge of Technology Integration at Corona High School, explains the quality of service that Xirrus provides, "Xirrus came out and worked hand-in-hand with our IT department to map out a plan of what would be ideal for Corona High and also worked with us budget wise, really being very flexible and accommodating. After it was installed, they came back out to make sure we had the coverage that we needed. Every step of the way Xirrus has been there to help and communicate with us, and we really appreciate that. I would definitely recommend Xirrus for any school or educational institution that is interested in having a seamless wireless infrastructure."
Xirrus, Inc., the leader in High Performance Wi-Fi, manufactures the only fully distributed, dense radio Wi-Fi architecture available in the industry today. The innovative Xirrus architecture delivers unmatched RF innovation and wireless performance on a per access point and system-wide basis, yet requires fewer devices, switch ports, cabling with less effort to implement and maintain than traditional offerings, thereby accelerating Time-to-Value. Xirrus manufactures its products in the USA and is Wi-Fi Alliance, Verisign, PCI, FIPS 140-2, and ISO 9001:2008 certified. For more information, please visit http://www.xirrus.com.
