The solution incorporates tokenization services to securely integrate tokenized payment credentials into the wearable. Maxim's Octal High-Side Switch and Driver Safely Demagnetizes Any Inductive Load for Industry 4.0 Applications
MAX14913 provides ultra-high speed switching and unique demagnetizing clamps
SAN JOSE, Calif. and MUNICH, Nov. 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Designers of industrial controllers can safely drive and demagnetize any inductive load for Industry 4.0 applications with the MAX14913 octal high-side switch and driver from Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. (NASDAQ: MXIM). With a unique, innovative, safe-demagnetizing clamp on each output, it easily and reliably interfaces low-voltage digital signals to 24V output-control lines.
For most industrial applications, engineers need a high-side switch to control inductive loads. The challenge is how to discharge the energy in the inductor when the switch opens and current flow stops. If the inductance and the resulting stored energy are high, a driver IC could be permanently damaged due to the generated heat.
Using its safe-demagnetization feature, the MAX14913 can discharge and demagnetize any inductive load safely via its integrated clamps. For a more robust solution, it provides open-wire and short-circuit diagnostics, the most common external failure mode. Its best-in-class propagation delay enables higher system speed and throughput. Compared to its predecessor, the MAX14913 achieves 15x space savings by eliminating 16 diodes. In addition, it has eight 640mA high-side switches that can also be configured as push-pull drivers for high-speed switching. Applications include programmable logic controllers (PLCs), motion control units, drives, and other industrial and process automation applications.
Key Advantages
-- System speed: Ultra-high speed switching up to 200 kHz improves system
speed by >15Ã; Handles 24-V (nominal)/36-V (max) loads at up to 0.5 A
with minimum delay
-- Robust: Safely drives and demagnetizes any inductive load with
integrated safe-demagnetization clamps on outputs; each output is also
protected against 1-kV of surge
-- Small footprint: Industry's smallest octal high-side driver reduces
board space by 40% compared to other solutions on the market; enables
compact high-density I/O modules
-- Diagnostic capabilities: Reduces downtime through multiple diagnostic
capabilities; simplifies plant troubleshooting
Commentary
-- "The MAX14913 is the world's first and only octal high-side switch with
integrated fast and safe-demagnetization clamps capable of discharging
and demagnetizing any inductive load," said Tony Partow, Executive
Business Manager, Industrial and Healthcare, Maxim Integrated.

Intersil Announces Industry's First 6-Phase Bidirectional DC/DC Controller for Automotive 12V-48V Power Supply Systems
Highly integrated ISL78226 addresses 48V hybrid powertrains that provide improved emissions and better fuel economy
MILPITAS, Calif., Nov. 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a leading provider of innovative power management and precision analog solutions, today announced it is shipping the industry's first 6-phase bidirectional PWM controller designed to perform buck and boost power conversions between 12V and 48V automotive buses. A single automotive-grade ISL78226 delivers up to 3.75kW at greater than 95% conversion efficiency, and is able to interleave in a modular master/slave architecture to deliver higher power. This innovative design allows engineers to support the rapid adoption of 48V hybrid powertrains that provide improved emissions and better fuel economy for internal combustion engine/electric mild hybrids. Watch a video on the ISL78226 solution.
By 2020, automotive 48V systems will help reduce CO(2) emissions by up to 15%, improve fuel consumption, capture energy typically lost while braking, and provide torque in the low RPM range for start-stop mild hybrids. The 48V power net is needed to manage the next generation of energy efficient electrical systems that require more power than available with the existing 12V subsystem. To reduce weight, many traditionally mechanical/hydraulic systems such as power steering, roll stabilization, heating, and air conditioning will be converted to 48V electrical drive. A new electric turbocharger will provide on-demand horsepower and torque, enabling the use of smaller more efficient combustion engines without sacrificing drivability. A high power starter/generator will replace the 12V alternator, reducing noise and vibration during engine starting while allowing regenerative braking to recapture up to 4x more of the available kinetic energy. The 12V bus and 12V lead-acid battery will handle the lighter loads, including ignition, interior lighting, navigation and audio systems.
Previously, 48V systems required a DSP with complicated firmware and/or separate buck and boost controllers combined with power stages and complex switching logic. One ISL78226 controller eliminates the complexity associated with previous 48V designs. The controller responds to changing load requirements by automatically adding or dropping phases to maximize system efficiency. It can also manage an abrupt change in power conversion direction. For example, if the 48V starter/generator fails while the vehicle is driving, the ISL78226 DC/DC controller seamlessly reverses power conversion direction so the 12V battery will temporarily supply the 48V subsystems, such as power steering, allowing the vehicle to safely pull over and stop.
The ISL78226 controller also integrates a digital PMBus(TM) interface for system control, telemetry and diagnostics that support ISO 26262 functional safety requirements. The controller's limp-home mode reduces power in the event of a serious fault or failure, allowing the vehicle to be driven home or to a nearby service station for repairs.
"The ISL78226's high integration and innovative features simplify designing a robust 48V/12V power net solution for automakers," said Philip Chesley, senior vice president of Precision Products at Intersil. "Designers don't have to be digital power experts or assemble multiple buck and boost controllers and the other required circuitry to create a 48V mild hybrid design."

Exponent Showcases Live Drone Tracking Technology at UTM 2016
Unique live-feed footage of UAVs helps regulators monitor compliance
HAMILTON, Mass., Nov. 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Exponent Technology Services has unveiled its SkyCommander at the UTM Convention 2016. Completely encapsulated and independent of any requirement to be electronically coupled with the UAV, Exponent's SkyCommander provides near real-time situational awareness of UAV operations via a secured cloud based internet platform and existing cellular networks.
Coupled with Exponent's UAS Portal, users can now configure flights, manage UAS, and monitor flight times, whilst also tracking live flights via the SkyCommander. UAS managers can set up instantaneous SMS alerts that warn operators and regulators when operational parameters are being breached, including perimeter, altitude, weather, checklists, pilot proficiency and currency.
Currently, UAV operators face considerable challenges in complying with regulatory ordinances and standards regarding UAV operations. The current lack of technology to track independent UAV flight data, and the ability to link this to specific regulator issued approvals, makes compliance a highly non-transparent area.
Thomas Tilson, Commercial Manager said: "aviation authorities are ultimately responsible for ensuring safety and standards, which means they not only need to formulate appropriate rules governing UAV use, but also a means to monitor and validate compliance. As with any new technology, regulators are struggling to adapt and there has been a "wait and see" approach to UAV regulation to date, however, this needs to change."
Exponent offers different holistic UAS solutions such as inventory tracking across large open yards, water sample retrievals, security surveillance, surveying, agriculture and 3D mapping, tailored according to its clients' needs.
SkyCommander key features:
-- Compact and lightweight
-- UAV independent
-- Flight data recorder functionality
-- Near real-time tracking
-- Three hours of battery life
-- Altitude, perimeter and proximity alerts
-- Customizable reports
SkyCommander technology:
-- Compact and lightweight - measuring 8 cm in length, 7 cm in width and 2
cm in height, the SkyCommander weighs only 130 grams.
-- Compatibility - the SkyCommander is easily installed on any UAV in
matter of seconds.
-- Self-powered - built-in rechargeable battery permits up to a maximum of
100 operational cycles independent of the UAV's power, with three hours
of continuous operation on a single charge.
-- Encrypted Data Logging - stored flight data is secured via encryption
allowing post-flight data downloads in case of loss of network
connectivity.
Exponent offers different holistic UAS solutions such as inventory tracking across large open yards, water sample retrievals, security surveillance, surveying, agriculture and 3D mapping, tailored according to its clients' needs.

New Multiple 1-100 Channel 1080P60 HDMI Video Over IP Encoder Solution
LONDON, November 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ --
Antrica, a worldwide supplier of H.264 video encoding, decoding and streaming
solutions, today unveiled the launch of the new ANT-2000 multiple channel input HD
encoder.
The ANT-2000 encoder solution is a multiple independent channel HDMI input
encoder solution, and is 1U rack mountable and scalable. Meaning that if 1 - 100 channels
are needed then the appropriate number of Encoders can be purchased and mounted together.
This flexibility means that it can be cost efficient and future proof in terms of
scalability, if in future more inputs are required.
The only limitation on the number of inputs that can be installed in a scenario is
down to the individual network, the bit rate of the stream, and the bandwidth available
(and/or a combination of these). Theoretically a system can be expanded to +100 streams -
assuming the network / infrastructure could support it.
Key benefits include:
- Low cost solution - contact us for a competitive price!
- Scalable & buildable - buy what you need, and add to it if you require.
- High resolution HDMI input encoding (1920 x 1080p60)
- Rack mountable (1U)
The ANT-2000 solution supports (1-100+) x 1080P60 inputs via HDMI 1.3a and can stream
HTTP, RTSP, RTMP and MPEG-TS over UDP.
The use of the product in a working scenario could be connected to a computer, which
can then stream a desktop in full 1920 x 1080 resolution at 60Hz, or for use in set top
box monitoring purposes.
The ANT-2000 solution provides 0.8 to 12 Mbits/sec encoding rates with de-interlacing ,
noise reduction and sharpening features. Video is streamed in CBR or VBR modes based on a
GOP architecture H.264 high profile. Audio supported is AAC and MP3 quality.
Les Litwin Sales Director of Antrica commented:
"This is a very exciting, customizable & scalable product being brought to market.
Often we have all been limited to 'set' numbers of streams dictated to us buy the
standardized products we buy. In this ANT-2000 solution you tell us how many channels you
wish to input via HDMI and we can build a 1920 x 1080p HDMI input encoder solution to suit
your requirements."
The ANT-2000 solution is available now, please contact sales@antrica.com to
discuss your specific requirements. Please also visit our website http://www.antrica.com for further information & products.

Cadence Releases XJTAG DFT Assistant for OrCAD Capture
Software interface enables early detection and repair of circuit board errors at the design stage, before hardware is produced
SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDNS) today announced that its OrCAD(®) Capture has been enhanced to now include XJTAG(®) DFT Assistant, an easy-to-use interface that significantly increases the design for test (DFT) and debug capabilities of the schematic capture and PCB design system. Developed by boundary-scan hardware and software tool supplier XJTAG, XJTAG DFT Assistant allows users to detect and correct JTAG errors at the design stage before the PCB is produced, preventing costly re-spins and project delays. For more information, visit http://www.orcad.com/xjtag-orcad.
"PCBs have become increasingly densely populated, and accessing pins under packages such as ball grid arrays (BGAs) has been virtually impossible," said Kishore Karnane, product management director, PCB Group, Cadence. "Boundary scan addresses this problem by providing electrical access to compliant integrated components on a PCB using a JTAG chain, but it is also imperative that any errors in the JTAG chain are corrected early. XJTAG DFT Assistant allows engineers to determine whether JTAG chains are correctly connected and terminated during schematic capture, early in the design process."
XJTAG DFT Assistant is composed of two key elements: XJTAG Chain Checker and XJTAG Access Viewer. XJTAG Chain Checker identifies common errors in a JTAG scan chain, such as incorrectly connected and terminated test access ports (TAPs), and reports them to the developer. Otherwise, a single connection error would inhibit the entire scan chain from working. XJTAG Access Viewer overlays the extent of boundary scan access onto the schematic diagram, allowing users to instantly see which components are accessible using boundary scan, and where test coverage can be further extended. Engineers can highlight the nets individually to show read, write, power/ground and the nets without any JTAG access on the schematic.
"We need to determine early in the design phase how to maximize test coverage using the minimum number of test points, so it is vital to know what JTAG access is available at the schematic stage," said Urs Allemann, director of design services at ed electronic design ag. "The XJTAG DFT Assistant for OrCAD Capture makes it easy for us to see the test coverage as the design evolves. This allows us to optimize our testing before the PCB is produced."
While the first prototype is being manufactured, XJTAG DFT Assistant allows engineers to export a preliminary XJTAG project from OrCAD Capture to the XJTAG development software, where additional tests can be developed. Hardware can then be tested as soon as it is available.
XJTAG DFT Assistant software is now included with OrCAD Capture 17.2-2016 QIR 2 at no additional cost; users of version 17.2 or higher can download the software today from http://www.xjtag.com/orcad.

The OV16885, designed for main cameras in mainstream smartphones, provides an attractive upgrade option for phones in the currently popular 13-megapixel category. With advanced features such as phase detection autofocus (PDAF) and zig-zag high dynamic range (zHDR), the OV16885 delivers professional-grade images that can significantly enhance the smartphone user's experience. Modern digital cameras historically fall short of the human visual system's ability to perceive a wide brightness range, and the OV16885's zHDR technology helps narrow this gap more elegantly than traditional frame-based HDR techniques.
zHDR uses a long and a short exposure in a single frame to extend the dynamic range capabilities of the sensors. Long and short exposure lines are diagonally interlaced across the entire pixel array in a zig-zag pattern. This enables live preview and video recording in HDR mode and single-shot full-resolution HDR images in capture mode without shutter lag.
Additional zHDR benefits include:
-- Up to 18dB of dynamic range extension
-- Single-shot capture to reduce motion artifacts or ghosting effects
-- Removing the necessity for multiple frames, reducing complexity and
latency
The OV16885-4C combines the benefits of OmniVision's second-generation, 1.0-micron PureCel Plus-S technology with an advanced 4-cell in-pixel binning function to greatly enhance sensitivity. The OV16885-4C pairs with smart resolution recovery software solutions to achieve a balance between resolution and sensitivity, which can significantly improve front-facing camera image quality even in challenging lighting environments. With these advanced capabilities, the OV16885-4C can serve as an ideal choice for "super selfie" cameras in high-end smartphone devices.
OmniVision's second-generation 1.0-micron PureCel Plus-S technology brings enhancements to buried color filter array (BCFA) and deep trench isolation (DTI). As a result, images and video captured by the OV16885 and OV16885-4C exhibit superior color reproduction and improved signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) as compared to prior generations, especially in low-light conditions.
Product Specifications
The OV16885 captures:
-- 16-megapixel images, video and zHDR capability at 30 frames per second
(FPS)
-- 4K2K video at 60 FPS
-- 1080p video at 120 FPS
-- 720p HD at 120 FPS
The OV16885 and OV16885-4C sensors fit into industry-standard module form factors for slim mobile devices. Both sensors are currently available for sampling and are expected to enter mass production in the first quarter of 2017.

France's Leading Casino & Hotel Group to Launch Limited Testing of Revolutionary MeReal Biometrics Smart Card to Explore the Applications of Secure Biometrics Card Technology
HONG KONG, Nov. 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- France's leading casino and hotel group, Groupe Partouche, has partnered with MeReal Biometrics in a groundbreaking real-world testing and case study to revolutionise their business using the MeReal Biometrics smart cards. The initial test will take place in two of the group's 42 casino and hotel properties.
The roll-out began at group headquarters in Paris where the patented fingerprint card is used by employees to access secure areas. The group has targeted two casinos on the French Riviera where the card will be deployed in the first quarter of 2017. Employees at the group's first open-air casino, Casino La Ciotat, currently under construction in the seaside town's marina, and employees at an existing casino in Antibes, Casino Juan Les Pins, that is currently being refurbished, will be the first to use the cards as identity badges that will grant them access to the properties and secure areas within them.
Security through electronic access control will be the immediate focus for the group, and if successful this move will pave the way towards a 'closed loop' system with all regular guests and 4,500 employees using their MeReal Biometrics cards to perform a wide range of payment applications and access, both physical and logical, applications.
"The fingerprint sensor brings trust and security to the Groupe Partouche experience, a key component to our core values. The identity of our employees is paramount and top customer service is key to our success. Once tested and deployed, we hope to add more services to the MeReal Biometrics card in order to make our hotel and casino VIPs' experiences with us as safe and carefree as possible," said Fabrice Paire, Chairman of the Board, Group Partouche.
The MeReal Biometrics patented 'computer on a card' removes the pain and hassles of typing account numbers and passwords from daily life without compromising security. By combining a fingerprint sensor, an acoustic signature, and a rechargeable battery on a traditional wallet-sized card, MeReal Biometrics has created the most dynamic and safe powered card that can be used for payments and access across all industries with unlimited applications.
"If, with one of our cards, a guest in the future can book and pay for a hotel room on the group's app or reservations hotline, then on arrival they by-pass the hotel's check-in desk and go directly to their room entering with their smart card, then use stored value on their card to pay for services throughout the property, as well as use it to access secure areas like the gaming rooms, pool, gymnasium, spa, even their rental cars, then we will have helped Groupe Partouche deliver a new level of customer service not known in the tourism industry," said Kate Davies, Head of Marketing, MeReal Biometrics.
With such a range of technology on-board, the MeReal Biometrics cards are not limited to one particular channel of communication. After the cardholder places a finger on the sensor, the card confirms a match, and only then can it perform contact, contactless, and audio applications for a short time. The cards can communicate over any of the world's 8.3 billion telephone lines, from smartphones through to fixed lines. It's compatible with IVR systems on customer service hotlines, with smartphone apps, online plug-ins, existing point-of-sale readers, door readers, car readers, USB readers, and more.
Cyber security, banking and card fraud, financial inclusion and social inclusion can all be addressed with the MeReal Biometrics technology that is already in production with global patents granted. Smart Living, Sharing Economy, Fintech and Access concepts are currently attracting customers across Asia-Pacific, Europe, and USA.
MeReal Biometrics is showcasing the card at the Web Summit conference in Lisbon, Portugal (November 7-10, 2016). Please visit the official website http://www.merealbiometrics.com and register with your email for more information.
About: MeReal Biometrics Limited is a Hong Kong private company dedicated to inventing revolutionary and innovative biometric solutions in access and authentication.
