Four New Nokia Cseries Mobile Phones Add Affordable Ways to Connect
Starting at EUR 30 With '2-in-1' Double-SIM Solution; Full Dual-SIM Nokia C2 to Follow at the end of the Fourth Quarter
NAIROBI, Kenya, June 3, 2010-- At a media conference held today in the Kenyan capital Nairobi, Nokia
(NYSE: NOK) unveiled its latest Cseries mobile phones with three new products
under the Nokia C1 name, as well as the new dual-SIM Nokia C2 which will
follow at the end of the fourth quarter of 2010. At the same event, Nokia
also took the wraps off the Nokia Bicycle Charger Kit, an alternative
charging solution built especially for people with limited access to
electricity.
The most affordable of the Nokia C1 trio (C1-00) is priced at EUR 30
before taxes and subsidies and is the first Nokia mobile phone to feature a
2-in-1 double SIM solution. "By simply holding down a key, people are able to
switch between SIM cards. This enables them to take advantage of reduced call
rates, flexibility when traveling from one country to another, or helps with
sharing a phone within a family and still use their own SIM," said Alex
Lambeek, Vice President at Nokia. "This is a great added convenience feature
considering the low price of the phone."
Nokia C1 owners will also benefit from a standby battery time of up to
six weeks, the longest ever for a Nokia mobile phone, especially useful in
those parts of the world where access to electricity is sometimes limited.
The standard flashlight - often someone's only means of bright light - is
paired with a vivid color screen and FM radio with standard headphone jack,
meaning the Nokia C1 is as much about entertainment as it is about
convenience.
The Nokia C2 features a dual SIM with dual standby capability. Along with
the many capabilities of the Nokia C1, the Nokia C2 can also keep both SIM
cards active; meaning calls and text messages can come to either number while
the phone is on. The first SIM card on the Nokia C2 sits underneath the
battery and the second is 'hot-swappable', a feature unique to Nokia which
means it can be removed and inserted when the phone is on.
Where available, the Nokia C2 also offers a wide range of information
covering healthcare, agriculture, education and entertainment via Nokia's Ovi
Life Tools, as well as the email account for the developing world, Ovi Mail.
In addition to Ovi Mail, people's favorite consumer email and chat accounts
can be pushed direct to the phone via Nokia Messaging. Listening to music is
simple with the FM radio and music player, with a massive amount of music
storage with the phone supporting micro-SD cards of up to 32GB.
The second and third devices in the Nokia C1 family (C1-01 and C1-02) are
both single SIM products, and Nokia's most affordable devices offering
microSD compatibility, enabling people to store up to 32 GB of music,
photography, or whatever other media suits them. Both new devices bring very
individual designs and exciting colors, bright color screens, web browsing
over GPRS and access to Nokia web services such as Nokia Messaging. In
addition, owners of the Nokia C1 (C1-01) will also be able to take video and
photographs using the built-in VGA camera.
New alternative charging solution debuts
Providing free and environmentally friendly electricity for mobile
phones, the Nokia Bicycle Charger Kit consists of a charger and dynamo, as
well as a holder to secure the phone to the bike. When the kit is installed,
the dynamo - a small electrical generator - uses the movement of the wheels
to charge the handset through the standard 2mm charging jack used in most
Nokia mobile phones. Lambeek continued, "You must look at a number of things
when it comes to power management - such as ensuring the phone's operating
system is as power-efficient as possible. Now, with our innovative bike
charger, people get even more freedom to use their Nokia without worrying
about battery life. Bicycles are the most widespread means of transport in
many markets around the world, so this is just one more benefit to be gained

STMicroelectronics Extends Class-D Amplifier Portfolio, Enabling High-End Home Multimedia to Look as Good as it Sounds
Audiophile amplifier delivers space savings, cost benefits and outstanding performance for equipment designers
GENEVA, June 2 -- STMicroelectronics (NYSE:STM), a leading supplier of audio ICs, has announced production availability of an analog-input 2x100W class-D power amplifier. This high-end amplifier extends the company's range of class-D devices that deliver audiophile sound quality in components smaller than competing devices by using an advanced chip manufacturing process.
With the market for class-D amplifiers growing at around 50% per year, according to some industry estimates, ST's TDA7498 targets performance-featured equipment such as DVD and Blu-ray players, home theater, active speakers, and docking stations. In such applications, the class-D amplifiers' high energy efficiency and low heat generation support super-slim product styling and also save costs by eliminating bulky heatsinks and high-wattage power supplies. Class-D products already make up the majority of audio products, where small size, low power consumption and high audio outputs are fundamental demands.
"ST's class-D portfolio delivers performance, size and cost advantages, leveraging the technology lead we have established over our competitors," said Andrea Onetti, General Manager, Audio Division, within ST's Home Entertainment and Displays Group. The TDA7498 is pin compatible with the TDA7492 2x50W amplifier, announced in September 2009, as well as the 2x80W TDA7498L and 100W mono TDA7498MV also now entering production. Pin compatibility between devices supports scalable product design using a common hardware platform to optimize development costs and time-to-market for new models. To simplify development of multichannel applications, the TDA7498 can also be externally synchronized, thus saving external components and avoiding cross-channel interference between channels. In all, ST now has single-chip class-D amplifier ICs from 2x3W to 2x100W.
ST's class-D amplifier range is the first so far to use advanced BCD6S manufacturing technology, which allows analog, logic, and high-voltage functions to be built on a single chip. This simplifies design, increases reliability, reduces overall dimensions and saves bill-of-materials costs. Operating efficiency is also higher for a given chip size, compared to older processes, meaning that ST's class-D ICs are typically smaller than competitors' devices. A further advantage is that BCD6S allows complementary N- and P-type transistors in the output circuitry, which saves the external bootstrap capacitor and diode normally required with processes that support N-type transistors only.

New Feature Provides Two-Way Communication at Point of Care
NEW YORK, June 2 -- Pfizer Inc. (NYSE:PFE) and Epocrates, Inc., today announced a collaboration to give healthcare providers (HCPs) mobile access to the Pfizer Medical Information Group to obtain scientific answers to their product questions or to report an adverse event. For the first time, clinicians can make direct contact through the Epocrates drug reference app on their iPhone® device to pharmaceutical manufacturers and immediately apply findings to patient care. Pfizer is enabling easy, direct access to its Medical Information services, via the Epocrates channel, in an effort to enhance the safe and effective use of its medicines, and help improve the quality of patient care.
"Contact Pfizer" is now a feature available in the Epocrates drug profiles of approximately 40 Pfizer products. By providing easy access directly to the manufacturer, this feature provides Epocrates' users the option for immediate phone access to Pfizer Medical Information specialists to obtain scientific information about the company's medications and report adverse reactions. Additionally, healthcare providers will soon have the option to email Pfizer Medical Information for select Pfizer products.

Shorewood High School teachers carry Help Alert(R) wireless alert pendants to discreetly summon help for medical and security emergencies.
BROOKFIELD, Wis., June 2 -- Shorewood High School recently installed and implemented the Help Alert® Emergency Call Solution, a wireless staff duress system manufactured and marketed by RF Technologies, Inc. of Brookfield, Wis. The new call system outfits teachers with wireless pendant-style push buttons that are used to summon immediate assistance in the event of a medical or security emergency. Fortunately Shorewood High School has not experienced serious security incidents. Trial shows up to 39 percent respond to calls to action including 'click to navigate' to the advertised retailer

The findings cap a months-long U.S.-focused trial of NAVTEQ LocationPoint(TM) that showed advertisers posted a click-through rate (CTR) high of 2.49%--more than 13 times the .19 average of online banner ads(1).
